Alexis Dawson

"Just leave me alone."

0 · 514 views · located in Earth

a character in “The Variant Code”, as played by AvengerSpirit

Description

Name: Alexis Dawson
Age: 23
Gender: female
Power: Alexis has the ability to “transmute” something from one object into another. For example, a metal bucket into a metal sword. The new object has to have all the same properties as the first. So long as the object is inanimate the process usually works. Typically has to be touching for it to work; certain things she’d used to doing has gotten to just being able to look at it for it to change. However, there is a dark side to the powers. They can be used on people and in small amounts would make great interrogation techniques, but as untrained as this form is, the most likely result is death to any living object and extremely painful.
Weaknesses: Asides of having to touch most every object to change it, the hand being used lights up giving away that she’s doing something. Also, the bigger, more complicated a change is the more vulnerable to attack she is.
Appearance: Image
Alexis has long, brown black hair either worn completely down or in a low ponytail at the nape of her neck. Her eyes are a crystal clear blue. She stands at just over five foot four inches tall. When in public or around normal society, she wears either blue jeans with ripped knees, black on black hi top Converses with a dark solid tank or shorts with a mid drift and no shoes. When out in the woods typically skins from kills.
Personality and alignment: To say she is a loner is an understatement. Alexis finds dealing with most people a hassle and prefers the solitude of nature to anything the civilized world has to offer. When she does speak to others, she can be rather blunt and rude, but she simply tells things how she sees them. Contrary to the persona she lets everyone see, she craves human interaction, but she lacks the social skills to act upon her desires, which creates her hostile exterior. She’s loyal to a fault once it has been earned, but be extremely careful to never break her trust.

Chaotic neutral
Occupation: Doesn’t really have one, but could be considered a hunter. She has on many occasions brought in some extra game to sell.
History: Alexis lived off the land her whole life. Adopted by a farmer when she was young, she never remembered a life before the Dawson family. She and their only child, Lucas, bonded extremely well and did everything together. She was really young when she first started noticing that something was different that she could do things that her family couldn’t. The first person she told was Lucas and in turn he helped her train the ability thinking it might come in handy around the farm. When she was ten her father died and the family struggled to keep their land. Lucas dropped out of school and Alexis pitched in during all of her spare time. Within a few years their mother got sick and unable to afford care, she too left them alone. Lucas went to the big city to see what he could work out money wise, but never returned. Alexis spent the next years in isolation. Eventually, she decided to make a wanderer of herself, barely staying in one place. What changed the most was that growing up she never had to hide her ability. Her family accepted her. Now when she goes into public she knows she has to hide it and it angers her to no end. Believes something bad happened to Lucas all those years ago – he would never have willingly left her.

The Beginning

Night had fallen on the city of Nessmond and the night life was buzzing. It wasn’t a large city like Boston or New York City, but it wasn’t small either. It had plenty of tall buildings in the center of the city and then regular houses and a warehouse district as you got further out all around the town. The very outskirts of town turned into farmland and then into woods. To get to the next town it would take you a good 45 minutes in a car with not much in between besides a few houses here and there. It always amazed people how populated the city was since it seemed to be so isolated. But there it was, the city of Nessmond.

At the moment it was nearing the end of summer and going into fall which many were glad of since the summer seemed to be so hot this year. Winters weren’t pleasant either, however, with lots of snow and cold temperatures. Many looked forward to when both spring and fall came around because that’s when the weather was just right.

So as mentioned before, night had fallen on the city and it was finally cool enough for the people living within the city to go out and have some fun. Many would go to nightclubs, others would just walk around the center of the city just for the fun of it. Others had jobs that they worked at night and some had just gotten off work and didn’t want to do anything except get home and crawl into bed.

This wasn’t the case for Gwenny, however, as she unlocked the doors to the art gallery and dragged her stuff inside. She didn’t own the art gallery, but she was close with the people who did and since she had a few pieces in there and also helped out when they needed it they had given her a key. It wasn’t often she came to the gallery at this time, but she was known to do it every now and then. The reason she was there tonight was because she had needed some inspiration for a new piece and she couldn’t get that at home. Well that and the owners had mentioned that there may be a guy coming that night to fix the computers and asked if she could be there to let him in. So there she was, making use of her time to paint as she waited.

As she set up her art supplies she could hear the loud music coming from the nightclub that was next door. She smiled softly to herself as she knew this would be the perfect inspiration for her. Not the music, but the emotion. The emotion of all the people inside that she could feel. Happiness. Confidence. Desire. These were all things she could feel and so she got to work as she dipped her brush into a color and drug it across the canvas.

As she painted she wondered if there was a night gaurd on duty tonight there at the gallery or not. Sometimes they hired one, but it wasn’t always consistent. She wondered if she would know the night guard and then thought about what she’d do if she didn’t. She knew it would look weird to have a woman sitting there painting. If he started to cause a problem she could always use her power to calm him down. No she’d only use that as a last resort she figured. Well she’d deal with it if the time came.

Melodyn took a deep breath letting the music of the club pour over her readying for their show they booked for tonight. They normally didn't do clubs but tonight was different. Tonight was a special friends birthday and this is what she wanted for her present so she agreed. Being that this was a club she didn't know what kind of set to do as her songs were normally rock. She could always do covers but she wasn't all that sure what to do. Maybe Paramore or Flyleaf, maybe even Fit for Rivals. This set was three songs conferring with her bandmates she decided on "Misery Buisness" by Paramore, "Damage" by Fit for Rivals, and "Make a Move" by Icon for Hire. Soon the lights dimmed and they were called onto stage. "Here we go guys, show time." As they stepped out onto the stage they were greeted by cheers and signs suggesting that they were well known here.
Stepping up to the microphone she smiled and said, "Hey, so it looks like you guys know us, Wolves Bite Back," she paused as cheers erupted. "So as I was saying we are here to perform for you guys on a special request from my dear friend Jordan for her birthday. Jordan, where are ya raise your hand." she waited until she saw her friend raised her hand. "Come on up here girl, you get to sit with the band!" She said and the crowd parted to let her through. Pulling her up onto the stage she addressed the crowd again. "As we were unsure what music you would want we prepared covers. So hope you all like it." she grinned as the band began 'Misery Buisness' The crowd went wild and then it was time to sing. She felt energy flow through her. This is what she lived for, singing and playing her guitar. "I'm in the business of misery,
Let's take it from the top.
She's got a body like an hourglass, it's ticking like a clock.
It's a matter of time before we all run out,
When I thought he was mine she caught him by the mouth." she started singing letting the music flow through her a smile on her face.

Out past the city and into the outlining farm and woodlands, Alexis sat on the edge of overhanging. Beneath her were open plains and to her back were the trees. She could see the lights of the city blazing in the distance, but everything between the neon and where she sat was dark. The country folk had been to bed hours prior and the only light she had to see by was the moon shining down on her head.

The young woman sat back with her head reclined to the sky as she listened to the world around her. There wasn’t much to hear, only the occasional night birds and the insects. All of the predators had either caught their meals or given up for the night. So had she. The slight hunger pains in her stomach told the story that were hadn’t been much to find. Of course, she hadn’t been in the area long enough to learn the animals’ patterns yet. She would need to catch something soon – food wise as well as to turn in. There had to be a few shops on the outskirts of the city with the woods being this close.

Taking a deep breath, Alexis pulled the ragged bag between her feet closer as she opened it up to inspect her city clothes. Everything was kinda falling apart. She was in desperate need of new clothes, but to get those she had to have money. To get money she needed to do extra hunting and sell the carcass. It was a waste to kill an animal she didn’t need meat from, but getting by it was the only way she knew how. But for now until she got some money to replace her thread bare clothes, she was stuck looking like a homeless person.

The term might have offended someone else, but honestly why fight the truth? She hadn’t had a home since Lucas had left for the city and never returned. The bank had come and taken the house and land. They didn’t know what happened with her and she continued to live there out in the surround acres without the new family ever finding out. Her father had taught her well. He’d be proud to see just how long she had survived on her own just off the land and no modern technology.

In the morning, she was going to have to go hunt for food and money. Then she was going to have to go into the city to buy new clothes after selling off whatever she could catch. The best part about the cooling weather? More game came out to play during the day. Alexis smiled. She was probably one of the only people who loved the heat simply because where she grew up the amount of snow and cold had been terrible with only animal skins to protect her. She glanced down at her body where more skins covered her tan flesh and then rolled her eyes. These were the bare minimum to keep herself cool, not warm.

Standing up, she stretched and then grabbed her bag, slinging it over her shoulder as she headed for the tree line. She picked a tree where she could still see the city beneath her and climbed into one of the branches where she settled in for the rest of the night. She likely wouldn’t sleep all that much, but any rest she could gather would be a welcome reprieve. Tomorrow was a whole new day and one she really didn’t want to deal with, but out of necessity she was going to have to. She closed her eyes and did her best to rest as she allowed the sounds of nature to soothe her.
