Samuel Peterson

IT whiz kid that learns recently of his adaptable powers.

0 · 137 views · located in Earth

a character in “The Variant Code”, as played by That Ginger Guy

Description

Name: Samuel Peterson
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Power: Reactive adaptation. Samuel's body will adapt and/or react to situations. I.e. If he is injured the affected area will regenerate and reform in reaction, bettering his capacity to react or resist. His healing is fairly instantaneous due to his adaptation. Additionally he will adapt to situations such as developing night vision when in darkness or gills when submerged in water. These changes only last for limited times ranging from minutes up to days depending on the severity of the change and his own control.
Weakness: None of his adaptations are permanent, over time or when he decides he reverts back to his normal body. The changes take a toll on his mind, the more changes that are active and the more severe, the harder the strain on his mind. If the stress becomes too much and he is incapable of maintaining his sanity, the animalistic areas of his mind take over. After this point Samuel becomes a mindless brute until he is suppressed or he reverts to his original form, unconscious for some time.
Appearance: Image
Samuel is focused on comfort and it shows. His hair is always a mess, never combed and often in his face. He wears thin wire framed glasses, he is nearly unable to see without them. His clothing is always thrown together like he just grabbed whatever was on top. Needless to say his fashion is nothing to marvel at. He prefers comfort above all else so it's not uncommon to see him in sweatpants and flip flops.
Personality and alignment: Samuel is a very laid back guy, nothing is ever a big deal to him. You'd be lucky to get a sigh out of him. He doesn't particularly enjoy company due to the work it takes to be involved, yet he isn't shy in the least. People find him easy to get along with. Samuel is a major computer whiz, that's when you really see him perk up.

Samuel would be best classified as chaotic good. He knows what's right and does what's best but he does it on his terms and in his own way. He does what's necessary to get the job done.
Occupation: Samuel works at a small network IT firm. They hold accounts with some large companies keeping their systems online.
History: Samuel grew up in a small town with nothing to do, so he found ways to entertain himself. He first came across a computer at an early age and never left it. During school he wasn't anything special until he reached college and took classes in computers. He graduated and instantly was hired by the IT firm he is with today. His powers didn't manifest until recently when he was in an accident. His car plunged off of a bridge when a semi lost control next to him. As the car was sinking Samuel was unable to exit the vehicle. He succumbed to his fate, assuming he would drown. However he never struggled to breathe, realizing he still was breathing even under the water. He had developed a set of gills, saving his life. Soon thereafter is where this story picks up, as Samuel is all learning the extent of his abilities.

So begins...

The Beginning

Night had fallen on the city of Nessmond and the night life was buzzing. It wasn’t a large city like Boston or New York City, but it wasn’t small either. It had plenty of tall buildings in the center of the city and then regular houses and a warehouse district as you got further out all around the town. The very outskirts of town turned into farmland and then into woods. To get to the next town it would take you a good 45 minutes in a car with not much in between besides a few houses here and there. It always amazed people how populated the city was since it seemed to be so isolated. But there it was, the city of Nessmond.

At the moment it was nearing the end of summer and going into fall which many were glad of since the summer seemed to be so hot this year. Winters weren’t pleasant either, however, with lots of snow and cold temperatures. Many looked forward to when both spring and fall came around because that’s when the weather was just right.

So as mentioned before, night had fallen on the city and it was finally cool enough for the people living within the city to go out and have some fun. Many would go to nightclubs, others would just walk around the center of the city just for the fun of it. Others had jobs that they worked at night and some had just gotten off work and didn’t want to do anything except get home and crawl into bed.

This wasn’t the case for Gwenny, however, as she unlocked the doors to the art gallery and dragged her stuff inside. She didn’t own the art gallery, but she was close with the people who did and since she had a few pieces in there and also helped out when they needed it they had given her a key. It wasn’t often she came to the gallery at this time, but she was known to do it every now and then. The reason she was there tonight was because she had needed some inspiration for a new piece and she couldn’t get that at home. Well that and the owners had mentioned that there may be a guy coming that night to fix the computers and asked if she could be there to let him in. So there she was, making use of her time to paint as she waited.

As she set up her art supplies she could hear the loud music coming from the nightclub that was next door. She smiled softly to herself as she knew this would be the perfect inspiration for her. Not the music, but the emotion. The emotion of all the people inside that she could feel. Happiness. Confidence. Desire. These were all things she could feel and so she got to work as she dipped her brush into a color and drug it across the canvas.

As she painted she wondered if there was a night gaurd on duty tonight there at the gallery or not. Sometimes they hired one, but it wasn’t always consistent. She wondered if she would know the night guard and then thought about what she’d do if she didn’t. She knew it would look weird to have a woman sitting there painting. If he started to cause a problem she could always use her power to calm him down. No she’d only use that as a last resort she figured. Well she’d deal with it if the time came.

Samuel walked down the sidewalk, hands in his pockets and head down. He had to walk because his car ended up at the bottom of the river, imagine that. He sighed and grumbled, unusually agitated, while on his way to a client's shop. He didn't normally make visits this late but the gallery wasn't able to close during business hours so he had to come after his own standard working hours. That's probably what upset him the most. Well, that and the car thing. It just hadn't been a good few days. To top everything off he discovered hes different, not like "socially awkward" different but the REAL different. Like hes not the same as others. He should've died that day in the river, his seat belt locked and wouldn't release as he plummeted into the depths under the bridge. Samuel thought back to those panicked moments, still bewildered at what happened. Gills. Literally GILLS suddenly and magically grew. That's not normal and quite frankly it scared Samuel. He heard whisperings on the web about people like this but he never believed it, assumed it was just conspiracy crap you always hear. Well, it turns out its not. This is real and hes lost. No really, lost in thought Samuel has wandered off somewhere and has no idea where.

"Just great!" Samuel rants. "Now I'm lost. In the city. At night. Ugh....."

Samuel proceeds down to the end of the block to get his bearings. Turns out hes two blocks beyond where he should have turned. Reluctantly he pulls out his cell and dials up the number of the lady who was supposed to open the door for him. Hes gotta let her know hell be late, don't want her to leave thinking he wasn't coming.

Melodyn took a deep breath letting the music of the club pour over her readying for their show they booked for tonight. They normally didn't do clubs but tonight was different. Tonight was a special friends birthday and this is what she wanted for her present so she agreed. Being that this was a club she didn't know what kind of set to do as her songs were normally rock. She could always do covers but she wasn't all that sure what to do. Maybe Paramore or Flyleaf, maybe even Fit for Rivals. This set was three songs conferring with her bandmates she decided on "Misery Buisness" by Paramore, "Damage" by Fit for Rivals, and "Make a Move" by Icon for Hire. Soon the lights dimmed and they were called onto stage. "Here we go guys, show time." As they stepped out onto the stage they were greeted by cheers and signs suggesting that they were well known here.
Stepping up to the microphone she smiled and said, "Hey, so it looks like you guys know us, Wolves Bite Back," she paused as cheers erupted. "So as I was saying we are here to perform for you guys on a special request from my dear friend Jordan for her birthday. Jordan, where are ya raise your hand." she waited until she saw her friend raised her hand. "Come on up here girl, you get to sit with the band!" She said and the crowd parted to let her through. Pulling her up onto the stage she addressed the crowd again. "As we were unsure what music you would want we prepared covers. So hope you all like it." she grinned as the band began 'Misery Buisness' The crowd went wild and then it was time to sing. She felt energy flow through her. This is what she lived for, singing and playing her guitar. "I'm in the business of misery,
Let's take it from the top.
She's got a body like an hourglass, it's ticking like a clock.
It's a matter of time before we all run out,
When I thought he was mine she caught him by the mouth." she started singing letting the music flow through her a smile on her face.

As Gwenny's painting was coming to life she felt something new. Something closer. Alarm. Someone really close by was alarmed. Was it because of her? Was it a night guard? She acted like she didn't notice anything and perhaps once he saw her he'd be okay. Maybe he'd recognize her if they had met before and then just leave her to her own devices. Or maybe he wouldn't notice her and take action and try to take her down or something. She didn't think she'd have it in her to fight back at all even though she had taken some self defense classes. Those were a joke though. Plus would she be considered assaulting an officer or something as well? Stop. She was getting carried away and her painting was turning into a disaster. He'd probably question her first.

As she was calming herself she hadn't heard the man approach. When he spoke she jumped and let out a tiny noise of fright as she dropped her paintbrush. Little bits of paint splattered across the floor. "Dammit..." She grumbled to herself as she quickly picked up the paintbrush and used the sleeve of her shirt to wipe up the paint. She then quickly stood and turned to face the young man. She tried to give him a friendly simile, but knew she probably looked like an awkward monkey trying to smile. "Oh y-yes I know it is. Actually I wor-" She began to stutter out as Uptown Funk began to play loudly in her pocket. This caused her to jump again. "Oh for the love of Tom Cruise you all need to stop making me jump! I'm gonna have a flipping heart attack!" She yelled as she pulled her phone out of her pocket. She didn't recognize the number, but figured it might be the IT guy. "Yes, hello?" She said as she tried to calm herself, hoping her moment of panic didn't get transferred in the slightest to the guy that was standing there.

As Samuel begins heading in the right direction a girl answers the phone sounding quite annoyed.

"Yes, hello?"

"Uh hi, umm I'm the computer guy on my way to help you guys out. I, uhh, kinda got lost. I'm a few blocks away so its gonna be a while till i get there."

Samuel hoped her mood wasn't directed at him. Last thing he needs is an angry girl breathing down his neck while he worked. He needed peace, especially today.

"Give me twenty minutes, I'll be there. And ill be out just as fast." Samuel hoped this would appease the girl.

Gwenny was slowly getting herself calmed down as the man on the other end began to speak. She could feel the man in the room with her was irked and this made the calming down process more difficult. Every emotion felt different to her and most negative emotions felt like there was a heavy weight pressing down on her. She just tried to breath, however, as she responded to the man on the phone. "Oh that's perfectly fine. I'm in no rush or anything so please just take your time. Just tap on the front door when you get here and I'll let you in." She tried to make her voice sound more calm and happy, knowing she must have sounded rude when she answered. Last thing she needed was to deal with two irritated people. She surely would go into a panic attack then.

She took a deep breath as she turned the sound off and put the phone back in her pocket. Now time to deal with the issue at hand. "I'm sorry about that, it was the IT guy calling to say he was going to be a little late." She started as she decided to use her powers just a little bit and gently pushed a calm mood towards the man. "As I had begun to say, I actually work here. My name's Gwenny. I have some paintings up in here as well." She said as she motioned to a couple art pieces on the wall. "I just came to let the IT guy in and figured while I'm at it I'd paint some too. I don't mean to cause any trouble, please forgive me?" This time she managed to pull of a kind and friendly smile, hoping that she managed to calm the man some and maybe push some happiness in there as well. He seemed so dark and it was a little creepy to her.

It was an average occurrence for Shiloh- even when she was young, she was always stared at and told how odd her eyes where. Normally, she’d just ignore the feeling and go on with her life but this time, for some odd reason, she was compelled to look up. As soon as she did, he blushed and looked away, scurrying off past the restaurant; the man was average- a typical guy who seemed to have no taste in fashion or was just seemingly being lazy in his apparel.

“Excuse me, miss?” Her attention was drawn back into her work and she walked towards the table that called her. “Can I have some hot sauce?” Shiloh smiled and nodded, asked if there was anything else before retreating back into the kitchen.
“Here you go, sir.” She gave him another smile and walked over towards table six, giving them their bill before seeing them out and wishing them a good night. Tables like these always made Shiloh happy; a bunch of older men who go out to pick up young women because they want to think they still got it. They always left the best tips. This table’s tip was twenty bucks for a fifty dollar check.

She smiled almost greedily and shoved the bill into her pocket before she retreated inside to get the cleaning supplies, putting on bright elbow length gloves and pushing everything into a square bucket before cleaning the table cloth with soapy bleach water. The reason she had this job to begin with wasn’t only to help support herself, but to help out her parents financially; due to her constant hospital visits, Shiloh cost her parents a boat load of money so to help out, she applied as a waitress and went in as a part-time student. Paying for rent and a quarter of her tuition did help out her parents a lot and while she was selfish, Shiloh wouldn’t allow her parents to suffer financially because of her.

Isaac had gotten off of work, what a long day it was for him. Being a nurse, he works long hours. Isaac changed out of his scrubs and walked out of the hospital and into his car. He starts heading home thinking to himself, "God I'm starving", he didn't really have any friends to go out and eat with, but he didn't care at this point he was just gonna go get food. So he drives to the nearest burger joint in the area, this place was one of his favorites in Nessmond, Mostly because of how active it was. Isaac gets out of his car, and notices tables set up outside of the joint, he thought that was odd, even though it was an active restaurant it was rare when they had to do this.

Walking up to the joint, Isaac stops and glances at his phone and notices that his phone had died, which wasn't a problem at all for him. He simply held his phone for a few seconds and his phone was fully charged, he thinks to himself "Well I guess this does come in handy". Isaac proceeds into the joint, at this point Isaac felt really awkward walking into a restaurant by himself, but again he thinks to himself, "I don't give a shit I'm hungry". So he goes to the front and starts looking around, he tried to avoid making eye contact with people as much as possible given his awkwardness. Then he looks to his left and notices a waitress passing by him, he couldn't help but make eye contact, noticing that this woman's eyes were bright gold, thinking that he's never seen eyes like that, ever. Isaac had also never seen her in there before, and he goes there often. Maybe because he always goes there when she's not working? His mind quickly drifted from that, starting to think about food again, as he waits to be seated.

Samuel finally made it to the gallery. He could hear the end of a live show at the club next door and regretted missing it. He likes a good show now and then. Lightly, he tapped on the door waiting for the lady to let him in. After a few minutes he tried pushing the door, finding it open. He took the liberty of letting himself in. As he wandered through the gallery looking at the paintings he heard a slam like someone was angry.

"Ugh knock knock?" Samuel figured he should speak up in order to not startle anyone.

"The door was open so I just let myself in, hope you don't mind"

As he walked toward the back he found a girl sitting in front of a half finished painting. Sadly it looks like she got frustrated and ruined it. She looked upset so he was wary of aproaching her. She didn't seem to have noticed him so he tapped on a bare piece of wall.At the same time a man turned the corner asking the woman if she was okay.

Guinevere glanced over at the man as he asked if she was okay. She sat silent for a minute, taking a deep breath and forcing herself to calm down. Before she spoke she noticed another man there now. She immediately assumed he was the IT guy, but decided to answer the night guard first. "Yeah sorry, I just got frustrated at something." She tried to offer a reassuring smile as she did so and then turned to the other man.

"You must be the IT guy. I'm totally okay that you let yourself in. Here let me show you where-" She was cut off as she heard a loud crash sound which made her jump. "What the hell was that?!" She asked alarmed as she turned to head for the door. Before she could start moving, however, she felt something she wished to never feel again. The panic and fear of some one dying. This freaked her out and she could actually feel what this person was feeling.

"No! Stop this! She's dying!" She screamed as she grabbed her head. The pain grew worse and worse until Gwenny let out a scream and dropped to her knees, gripping her head tightly. Tears began to stream down her face as she realized whoever had these feeling's had died. She knew too well how death felt, she felt it when her mother died and now she was feeling it again. It didn't stop after the feeling of death past. Now there was fear, tremendous fear. "God please make it stop!" She pleaded with no one in particular and continued to hold her head and let the tears flow as she felt a panic attack coming on.

There was the sound of a large crash outside as the girl began to speak to him. Right before Samuel's eyes this girl began to scream and cry, something about someone dying. Out of reflex he rushed to her and wrapped his arms around her.

"Hey hey hey, whats going on? Are you okay? What was that noise?" Samuel asked trying to grasp the situation.

He looked up at the other man in bewilderment. His face showed almost no emotion, other then determination. His eyes looked like those of a man who had grown accustomed to such things because of a dark past. With fear in his own eyes he asked the man,

"What was that noise? Should we go check it out?"

Samuel was terrified himself, mostly from the girls reaction and wasn't particularly fond of the idea of going out there alone, or even at all. Just more craziness to add to the past few days, just what he needed right now. He began to wonder if some sort of disaster magnet was following him lately.

It had suddenly clicked in Williams mind. After seeing the girl freak out over seemingly nothing he knew... She was like him. That had to be why he felt so at ease with her... He thought. He noticed then the IT guy talking to him

"Should we go check it out?" he asked, visibly panicked at the situation. William only looked at him, then walked past him and towards the conflict, as he did he quickly grasped at the darkness, grabbing it and forming it into a dagger... he felt it then, that primal bloodlust he once felt as a child... He hated it but... At the same time, he loved it. The look of life draining from a persons eyes; it made him laugh almost.

"it's been awhile hasn't it." the thought ran through his head.
"Been quiet some time since i've been able too show myself in YOUR life William" the thought continued.
"Shut up... Your only here to get this done." William silenced the thoughts. Years of control wouldn't be thrown away because of this one stupid night...

as William turned the corner he immediately saw the body laying on the ground along with the people surrounding it and stopped. gripping the shadow dagger tighter he soullessly asked.

"What... The hell... Is going on."

Isaac, lost in thought, is startled after the waitress with the golden eyes had walked up to him and asked him to follow her to his seat. She looked over her shoulder and asked him "I'm assuming you need a table for one"?

"Yes" Isaac replies in an awkward manner, following her to a table.

As he takes his seat and looks up to the waitress, he started to notice something different about the girl, well of course she was already different because of her eye color. But it was more than that, he couldn't tell what it was about her that was different, he just had this feeling. The waitress looked down at him with a smile, and asked "Would you like anything to drink to start you off with?

"Yes I would like"
he is quickly cut off as he started to speak by a loud crash several blocks down the road.

With everyone in the restaurant startled, Isaac immediately gets out his seat and rushes out the door! Thinking someone might have been hurt and, with him being qualified to help, he just acted...

Normally he would never do this, Isaac was never quick to take action this fast, but something was pushing him. Perhaps maybe he was still in that mental state he gets from working in a hospital? Or was it something else? He couldn't really tell.

Sprinting, Isaac sees the club down the street where the crash sound came from. He notices a person standing in the alleyway and hears him say "What the hell is going on?"
Rounding the corner, Isaac sees a group of people surrounding something he couldn't make out. he is however quick to realize it's a person unconscious on the ground and he quickly shoves everyone aside yelling "move I'm a nurse!" And attempts to help.

At first Gwenny didn't even realize the man had come over and wrapped his arms around her. All she knew was that it was comforting. She barely heard the words he spoke, but she tried to answer to the best of her ability. "Someone has died, someone was murdered. I could feel their death. Their pain, their agony and panic. I can feel all of it, it's horrible. And there's now someone else in trouble." She managed to gasp out in between panicked breaths. Come on Gwenny, you need to calm yourself. Ignore everyone else feelings and take deep breaths. You can do this, just focus. She thought to herself as she tried to steady her breathing.

After a few minutes she had managed to calm herself at least a little. That's when she realized that somewhere in all that happened she had gripped onto the man and buried her face into his shoulder. She quickly let go of him and wiped her face. "I am so sorry! I don't even know you and you were kind enough to comfort me and here I go and get tears all over your shirt while looking like a crazy person going on about feelings and people dying and how it hurts. Now I'm rambling and probably look even crazier and this is why I shouldn't be allowed to interact with people." She quickly spoke and then felt embarrassed as she looked down. She could still feel all the emotion outside and almost wondered if they should go out and see what was happening as well.

Samuel patiently waited for the girl to finish her rambling as she cried into his shoulder.

"If you're gonna be okay I'm going to follow that man and see what I can do. Stay here, stay calm and you'll be okay"

Samuel did his best to console the hysterical girl by sounding confident himself. In truth he was probably just as panicked as anyone would be but he needed to stay strong. Samuel rose to his feet, glanced over at the crying girl one more time then followed or the back. By the time he had gotten there a crowd had already begun to form. He saw the other man standing in the doorway, something in his hand. He approached the man, placed his hand in his shoulder saying,

"What's going on? Did you see who did this? "

William just stood and watched as the two mysterious figures shuffled off into the crowd. he lessened his grip on the shadow in his hand and felt it quietly disperse into nothing as a hand was placed on his shoulder, reflexively he shrugged the hand off and looked at the man.

"Whats going on? Did you see who did this?" The IT worker asked.

"I don't know, and I don't care." he he said unemotionally.

He shot a glance at the self proclaimed nurse attempting to help the dead girl before silently turning and walking back into the gallery.

Upon entering he noticed the artist... Gwenny, and had something that he needed to get off his chest.

"What did you do too me." He asked bluntly. truthfully not caring about the fact that she still had tears forming in her eyes.

"Tears... nobody cares about tears... Mother never cared about tears.... Father never cared about tears." The thoughts began to speak again.

"Your annoying." William shut down the thoughts again. appearing physically irked at the them.

Samuel was agitated by this man ignoring him but decided not to follow. He wanted to know what happened and why. Not usually the type to get in others business he felt like this time he had to. So, he walked over to the man crouched by a body.

"Hey do you know what happened here?" Samuel asked while surveying the area. He noticed a big chunk of asphalt had been torn up and tossed. Then his eyes drifted toward the body of a girl. Young. No older then he was. Yet she appeared to have had the life snuffed out of her like a candle. 'What happened?' Samuel thought to himself. 'There was obviously some sort of conflict but what really happened?' He assumed that the asphalt was we crash they heard but how did it get torn up? Normally Samuel would assume some sort of underground explosion from gas or something but recently he wasn't so sure. Between what happened to him, the way the gallery girl reacted and whatever was up with the security guard, whatever was in his hand just dissipated, he wasn't too sure what to belive anymore. Just a whole bunch of things to add to the freaky list for this week.

Gwenny remained silent as the man spoke, the only thing changing in her was a wince when he mentioned she had caused death before. He of course was right with that, though she hated remembering it even though it was such a long time ago. She was just glad she didn't cry about it every time she remembered it now.

She quickly shoved those painful memories away just as fast as they had come to her and continued to listen to the man. Soon he had created something in his hand and she stared at it, marveled at it. How had he done that? What did he make it out of? Was it the shadows? But shadows didn't have a physical form, did they? It was amazing to her, more of the fact that she had found someone who had powers just like she had powers. She wasn't alone! This knowledge made her happy and there were so many things that she wanted to ask the man, but she didn't. She remained silent, but she hoped she could talk to him more about it someday.

When he finished his speech she just sat quietly and watched as he walked away. Everything made a little bit more sense about the man now and why he was so....creepy. Oddly enough though she wasn't frightened of him like she knew every sane person should be. Instead she found him interesting and she felt almost sad for him because he'd never felt the feelings she'd given him before. She didn't know what had happened in his past, but she could tell that he'd never felt love from another human. He never had a true friend, never had someone care for him. This made her feel sadness and she wanted to help change that, but she wouldn't do anything tonight. She may never even do anything, but she knew if she got the chance she wanted to try and help him. Tonight, however, she was tired and ready to go home.

She got up and began to pack up her stuff when she realized the computer still hadn't been fixed. Damn it, I just want to go home now. She complained in her mind before making the decision to see if the IT guy could come back another day. So she finished packing up her stuff before turning to where William disappeared to. "Have a good night William. It was very nice meeting you." She said to the corner while giving him a genuine smile, not sure if he could even see her, before she turned and dragged her stuff out. She locked the door and then took her stuff to the car before going to look for the IT guy.

When she found him he was standing near another man and the dead girl. She cringed as she looked at the dead girl. "The person that did this is gone. I don't feel him here anymore." She said as she stared at the dead girl, getting lost in herself as she fell silent.

Tanya resisted the urge to sigh in relief. Apparently, he hadn't heard her. Quickly, she marked the location of the building on her phone. Doing so allowed her to investigate the situation tomorrow morning. Or have someone else investigate it for her; either one worked. Unfortunately, it was too dark to take a picture. She instead committed the man's face to memory.

Tanya left the dilapidated warehouse and made her way to the commercial district. Several times, she paused, wondering if she heard something. Now, was someone following her? No. It must have been her imagination. Right? She picked up her pace, forgoing stealth for speed. Tanya was now in the populated area of the city, where she could see several others walking or hanging out by the storefronts. No one would be stupid enough to confront her here... probably. Tanya shook her head It was just paranoia speaking.

Soon, she arrived at the street where the attack had taken place. The sickly stench of a freshly dead body was unmistakable. By now, most of the crowd had dispersed. There were a few stragglers, here and there, but since the authorities had been called, must of the allure had faded. (Of course, the authorities wouldn't come yet. The proper government agencies would handle this situation in the place of the police.)

Tanya slowed down as she approached the body, letting a look of horror and revulsion flash across her face. "What happened here?" she asked the three, as if she didn't know. Tanya knelt down by the dead girl, feeling pity and sadness at her untimely demise. Suffocation, most likely, was the cause of death. For the second time today, she experienced dread. Dammit... do we have a rogue agent on the run? Did his lose his sanity or something? Every hunter knows that a public death is to be avoided at all costs! A hunter is supposed to bring a Variant back, not kill them!

She glanced at the redheaded girl who was staring off into space. "Are you alright?" Tanya then turned to the man with glasses. "Did you see what happened?" Tanya deliberately manipulated her tone and her body language to be concerned and calming. Hopefully, by subtly taking control of the situation, she could find out what happened.

Great. My first official day on duty, and it's an absolute mess.

William came back to his senses after hearing yet another new voice. He peered from the door, seeing a new woman had arrived asking quite a bit of questions...

"Shes's nosy..." He grumbled to himself, he wanted to just turn around and sit back in his chair. But something was prying at him, yelling at him to go back outside. He was in an internal battle, he didn't want to be questioned but his curiosity was so oddly perked...

"Is this. Because of Gwenny" He thought to himself.
"It has too be... Why else would I be acting so strange." He then came to an ultimatum with himself finally....
"Alright you don't have to answer any questions but just please go out there" Thoughts ran through his head.

He finally mustered the want to quell his curiosity and opened the front door. Stepping out he shot a glare in the direction of eveyone

Gwenny snapped out of her thoughts when another woman began speaking. She wasn't sure when this woman had shown up, but she was so lost in thought that she knew she hadn't noticed a lot. "Oh I-I'm fine, it's just shocking to see a dead body." She began as she glanced at the woman. "I just hope she didn't suffer." She said softly, however she knew the girl suffered. She had felt it and it had been awful.

She then noticed William coming towards them, noticing the glare he was giving. Knowing it took a lot in him to come out and join them she shot him a smile. She knew it probably wouldn't change the glare, but she hoped it would show him she was glad he came out and he was welcome at least by her.

Sweeping her up as if she weighed nothing, Everette carried the girl to the road, and whence he hailed a taxi. After but a short struggle to get the girl's address on his database, he told the driver where she lived, so off she went to somewhere he knew she would be safe for now, from what he did not know neither why he protected her. Slowly, as if finally having pain medication start to work, the connection he felt by instinct fled him, and he finally felt himself restored to normal. Looking back over at the receding crowds, he decided he could approach them to investigate his handy work, and as he approached he noticed he recognized one of the people as an agent, an undercover agent.

He remembered his first field job and how the agents only got in his way, but this one seemed a little to naive to know of the early years. Before, when he was a rookie, there were dozens of hunters with all sorts of powers, and hunters would work alongside other hunters just as willingly that they would duel one another. Finally, one hunter decided he hated all other hunters, so he was the first and only to go rogue to hunt hunters. One by one, he hunted his fellows down and killed them, but his reign of terror was cut short when he met his match, a Seal team that dealt with him. However, although he was stopped, he dwindled the population of the hunter project down to but a few of five or more, and they eventually killed each other off themselves, Everette claiming no innocence. So, in conclusion, the years of bloody chaos within the Agency ended in just Everette left, and he liked that way.

When he finally reached the woman, he was that she was still surrounded by wondering eyes, so he decided to try and play something off as he saw the girl do in the bar, but killing was his forte, not acting. In a gruff voice that probably spit in the fce of the fine theatrical arts, he attempted to sound the role, speaking to who he knew was the agent.

"Hello, uh, sister. Did you call? Oh no! A dead body! What happened?" All the while saying this he made facial gestures towards around the corner, hopefully signaling that he needed to speak in private, but, again, his only forte is killing.

However, he thought to himself, if someone caught on, I might be singing my forte after all.

William simply nodded his head as he noticed Gwenny smiling at him, as he began to join the group he noticed another man join, he would've sworn that this was the man he confronted early. The one who disappeared into the crowd... but no one would be crazy enough to come back to the scene of a crime...

"Hello, uh, sister." Was all William listened to before he space out...
"Sister? but you don't even look remotely alike." He thought.
"Adoption maybe?" He tried to reason. "But the way he's acting, something is up.." He concluded.

William took a small step back from the crowd, making sure he could see what everyone was doing... He was going to keep an eye on this situation, he wasn't going to allow himself to be blindsided.

The minute a new person showed up, Gwenny could sense the same emotions she had sensed when the murder was happening. Nothing changed in her to indicate she realized this. She didn't even look at the man until he started speaking. He called this woman his sister? There was no way they were related. Right? It seemed very unlikely.

That's when she noticed William, he too felt something was off, she felt it. She looked at the man who had just appeared skeptically for a moment before speaking. "I've seen you...right after this happened and everyone began to crowd around. You fled the scene rather quickly." She began as she tilted her head to the side a little, appearing quizzical. "Why did you flee so quickly? That's suspicious. You weren't involved with this were you?" She questioned him, wondering how he'd react to her accusations.

"I've seen you...right after this happened and everyone began to crowd around. You fled the scene rather quickly." She began as she tilted her head to the side a little, appearing quizzical. "Why did you flee so quickly? That's suspicious. You weren't involved with this were you?"

Everette looked down upon the curious girl, and he almost found amusement with the seemingly child-like person. She had worn years on her, most likely something emotionally tragic had happened to her, but she had never seen horror like him, there was too much light in her face to know the things he knew. However, he could not figure out if that made him angry at he fact that someone could remain so innocent or sad that he could be so much more weathered when they were not that different in age, and he felt it a little harder to look at the slain girl that laid on the ground with no remorse, he even started thinking that maybe the girl he slaughtered had once been that innocent, if she was too a mere girl. Suddenly, his pure instincts kicked in as he started to feel cornered by the girl that questioned him, his intuition taking the sudden surge of emotion an alarm for danger and turmoil, and he came to his senses realizing the woman was questioning him, putting him exposed if he did not react quickly. So, he reacted the only way he knew, with animalistic intimidation, and if that failed, possibly violence.

He shot a glare down at he girl, one that burned out of him as if to almost tangibly harm her in a way, as if his gaze was strong enough to manifest daggers that would pierce her mind, and he even felt a bit cared at his own ability to produce such a look. How would you like it, huh? If I evoked such emotions?, however, he felt guilty at this sudden retaliation. Now, noticing another sudden keenness to emotion, he wondered the odds if this was another Variant around, but there was no possible way for there to be so many in so close. Instead, he hoped the look was enough to shut her up, but again, now almost frustrated with his abnormal amount of human emotion when he usually preferred whim, he wondered. What if she did not stop questioning? Could he kill another? Another innocent? He could he decided.

He did not pay much attention to the response of the woman he was trying to contact, but he got the jest. She is a far better actor. When she stormed off, he thanked any god he knew of that she was trained at subtlety, for , for the first time ever, he was tired of killing for the night.

As he followed, he awaited the scorn of the people in command, but he wondered if she would too, like so many before her, be too afraid to speak against him. He felt lonely once again, and decided for another night.

Lone wolves will stay alone.
