Cunning and ever shifting, faster and powerful, dangerous qualities for a Gjaum.

0 · 304 views · located in Tōkyō

a character in “The Virus Strain”, as played by MartinVole

Description

Name: Viktoriya

Race: Gjaum

Age: 26

Sex: Female

Occupation: Survivalist

Height: 18'5"

Weight: 1722lbs

Breed: Cross

Syndrome(s): Chimera/Hanuman

Syndrome Powers: Immense bestial strength from the Chimera side along with accelerated speed, reaction, and reflexes from the Hanuman side, and powerful shrieks that can even break down walls.

Weapon(s): Claws and teeth.

Armor: None

Miscellaneous Items: Musical locket

Physical Description: A massive carnivorous looking creature possessing a muscular physique and powerful claws and jaws, two sets of frontal limbs function as both legs and arms. Thick light-gray-to-white fur covered across scars, only offset is blonde hair as the remaining sign of former humanity. Eyes have black sclera and are a luminescent blue. Blue markings on its face form an emblem shape upon the forehead, and stripes line her back. A long tail almost equal to the length of her body is heavy and capable of causing some damage. Four ears on her head are all functional, able to hear and distinguish sounds from all directions without turning her head.

Personality: As expected of a first impression, Viktoriya seems to behave as an erratic and savage beast, showing a highly aggressive temperament and behaves as a solitary hunter. But this is only a facade, as their true nature is far more complicated and their behavior can shift without warning, showing signs of deeper thought, cunning, patience, and perhaps even fragments of reasoning.

History:

Once not one but two women, sisters, of Russian heritage, Vitaliya and Roksana Viktoriya who had never ventured far apart, even upon infection as Overeds. Losing much of any family and friends they had to Renegade, they were left with only one another for support, living as best they could for what time they had. Vitaliya's infection manifested as being the Chimera strand and Roksana's was Hanuman. Together they worked towards the well being of one another, protecting and supporting each other.

This would end tragically in a life or death fight with a powerful Gjaum, pushing them to use their Overed abilities extensively, pushing their bodies to the point of no return. Even in exasperated victory over their enemy, they had in turn sealed their fate, and in a final embrace their bodies, twisting from the ravages of the virus, merged together into a singular monstrous Gjaum. This creature known collectively as Viktoriya, after their last name, and a cruel joke. The only remnant of their previous humanity is a musical locket containing a picture of them and their family, an item that the Gjaum had never removed. The song that plays is the Russian folk song "Shine, Shine, My Star."

So begins...

Dangling ruins of an old hospital sits just on the occupied outskirts of Tokyo, empty for the most part aside from the pests that have taken residence within it making their nests in the nooks and corners. A new addition to those had only recently arrived, however, so large it had to make renovations to accommodate their size. A Gjaum of great size, abandoned by the human life they once had and known only now as "Viktoriya".

Shambling through the hallway, running a clawed hand against the wall leaving a trail of blood from a recent kill upon it. The only solace offered to the victim, perhaps, was that it was perhaps quick, but the meaning perhaps was hollow. They did not dwell long on the act, it was likelt impulse and no deeper than that. It wasn't the first time they had killed, and likely gave those no deeper thought. No hate, just... impulse.

Viktoriya reaches the end of the corridor and lowers her arms and scans the area with her glowing blue eyes. Pupils dilate as something catches her sight, and without hesitation strikes at it with her claws, and a shriek of ripping metal echoes through the floor. It was an elevator door, casting a reflection of her monstrous image, now with claw marks ripped through its surface. She stood there, staring deeply into it, leaning in. The reflection was unfamiliar, fuzzy thoughts and nothing cohesive. There was a feeling, however, a familiar recurring one, anger. After a moment of staring, deeming this no threat, she narrows her eyes and lets out a snort of hot air from her nostrils fogging the reflective surface before pushing away. It was time to continue her aimless rounds.

Fragments rise and fall in the depth of the mind, incomplete images, barely substantial enough for cohesive cognitive thought. Faces, places, names, memories, falling and fading slowly like a snowfall composed of mirror fragments, it was all the virus allowed, or didn't manage to filter out entirely. This is what dreams were for the beast, or what could be considered dreams as they rested. These offered no comfort, much of the meaning attached to these had faded as the Renegade had ravaged their bodies and minds, no, it was more a frustration, a complication that offered nothing to survival.

Then there was a sound... a faint squeaking sound, at first barely audible, then growing steadily louder. The snowfall ends and Viktoriya rouses from their rest. Ears rise, twitching, the sound gets loud, close by... then stops. It is then replaced by a beeping, then a number of loud clicks. Viktoriya rises from some old mattresses they had gathered together and set off to locate the source of the disturbance. Slowly stalking, quiet despite their size, they prowl down towards the lower levels of the decrepit hospital, focusing in on the source of the sounds. Viktoriya then stops in place above the entrance lobby, looking down below for signs of life.

There, just at the broken remains of the front door was a black and silver bike, a basket in front holding a backpack. The little light that entered the lobby made it glisten. Viktoriya's eyes narrow, it was a new addition. Her eyes scanned the rest of the lobby for the owner, but then was immediately cut off by a click and a consuming blight white light. Vision was disrupted, but could hear the faint sound of a gasp. Ears pick up on a sound, a heartbeat growing louder and louder, hastening. Terrified.

Eyes focus, a figure right below from their vantage point, lowering down a digital camera. It was a human, a young male, dressed in seifuku (standard school uniform). He began to back away, slowly, in hopes that evasion of the beast was like that to a bear who's territory had been crossed. But the Gjaum didn't function on that form of logic, it was more complex, more madness and impulse that drove her savagery. With the target in sight, she launched herself out from the upper floor and landed only a few feet from the boy, dust and debris scattering from the impact.

"G-get away from me!" he screamed, his voice cracking in terror as he makes a mad dash towards the door, camera still in hand. In the eyes of the Gjaum, however, his motions were sluggish, and as soon as he reached the door she was upon him, a decisive strike across his back with their claws sending him toppling to the ground, camera flying from his hand across into the old road ahead. As he laid there, bleeding, he tried to crawl, vision already blurring, whimpering. Escape was futile, the end was nigh, the creature grabbing him with its clawed hands dragging him back inside. Viktoriya raised him up, a guttural growl raising up from her throat, jaws widening, and eyes meeting their prey's face for the first time. But...

Pupils dilate... hesitation... an image before her replacing the face of the boy... a fragment... vague recollection... a blurry face replacing his, its sight welling the beast with a compendium of emotion driving the creature even more mad. Viktoriya's hair stands on ends like an agitated cat, a scream bellowing out from her still agape maw, the blood curdling sound was warped yet vaguely human. The boy yells back in horror as he is thrown against the back wall with great force, and everything to him goes into one... last... blank.

Viktoriya stands there, still, aside from an occasional twitching, arms held out, staring blankly, hands drenched once again in crimson. Breathing labored, but gradually slowing, eyes returning to normal, or as normal as it gets for the mad creature. She slowly glances back at the lifeless body of the boy, higher thought dictates to dispose of it else... else... something may happen. The action held some meaning. She dragged the boy's body down towards the basement into the morgue.

The camera outside clicked one final pictures of the sky before beginning to beep in warning, its aperture damaged from the harsh impact.

Viktoriya stares over her recent kill laid out across a slab of the mortuary drawers, the first to occupy it in a long time. The purpose of laying him out upon it was not entirely clear, not even to her, but something about this seemed vaguely familiar. She slides the slab back and forth a few times, the old rollers squeaking from long disuse. After several moments mesmerized by this, she finally grabs her face with her upper hands and swings it shut with force. There she sat, ears drawn back, holding her head, breathing strangely.

Shards of mirrors... cut and pierce...

After a moment the mad Gjaum's breathing lightened, and body grew limp, head fills with snow and draws back facing straight back, and they fall back into a state of dormancy. It was far too early to prowl, night was more to the creature's liking. It wasn't like another interruption of their rest could occur before nightfall.

Another snow of scattered images. Among them is a person is talking, much of their features blurred away, the words almost indecipherable, seemingly distressed. It seems like it should be familiar, but it isn't to the beast. In that moment it fades, everything just fades into a white void. And then comes the silence until...

Clack, clack, clack...

Another sound comes to the ears of the beast once more causing them to perk up and twitch. Consciousness once again returning to her, eyes opening and glancing about. She snaps her head forward, the sound of a female voice now coming to her ears. With this she heads into the elevator shaft to ascend it, a task given her size, strength, and claws is barely a chore. Coming to the first floor and prying the doors open she crawls out into the corridor. The voice again speaking, the tone more distressed.

It was here that she heard the footsteps once more, echoing through the halls, more slowly, more steady. Been... discovered, will send more. On top of it all, Viktoriya now sensed it... Renegade Material traces in the air... this was no average human, no dormant host. Regardless, she couldn't allow her survival to be threatened. Her nerves ignited, the flow of time around her seems to slow down from her perspective, and in a burst of speed skitters her way to the origin of the sound.

And there she was. Merely feet away, ready to attack, she meets eye-to-eye with the intruder in the midst of making a run for it. She was a pale dainty thing, shorter than the last kill, with long blonde hair and light blue eyes. What. As she edges closer, the images of the dream start to fall in place, of the talking person. Viktoriya's eyes quiver, the hair color, the skin color, the eye color... they were all so... familiar.

A feeling of apprehension wells up within her, as if she were seeing a phantom of one long dead. She grits her teeth, her own light blue eyes now widen, and with her front set of arms she shakingly reaches out for Azuma. The beast's jaws opened and closed, muttering something incomprehensible in a highly guttural voice. Fingers curling, ready to grab hold of the girl. Then something more clear comes through upon a twisted and strained tone:

"Se..s...t..ra..?!"

Dan still wasn't too pleased with his day. The mental strain of running into a crime scene only added to his aching body. Not to mention on his way out of said crime scene he found that schoolgirls little game device..Thing. It was strange to him, he was never one for games and such, and this thing looked so small, so fragile. A lot like it's owner. It was just another headache to him though. How the hell was he supposed to find her to return it? Put up fliers?

He groaned as he pushed his way into his shithole of an apartment. Tiny, poorly lit, and in a mostly rundown part of Tokyo. It was a a filing cabinet for wannabe thugs, druggies, and people who ultimately screwed up their lives. Maybe that's why he resented it so much, he looked around and felt..Comfortable. Felt like he belonged. Most people would be uncomfortable, desperate to leave or improve.

But this was just the hell he knew.

He flopped onto his broken-down couch. Some red, floral patterned monstrosity he'd found on the roadside. It was horrible, but the price was right. He sighed and reached over to the box he used as a end table. Remote, ashtray, and bottle of bourbon on it. He needed it more than ever today. That girl's mangled body was still vividly in his mind. It was all he could see.

He stared out of his window as he poured several drinks at once to save time later. Everything about this move sucked. Especially that creepy abandoned hospital across the street..Place gave him the willies.

Azuma froze when she saw what lurked in the hospital. A large creature with claws, a tail, 4 ears, blue markings and...blonde hair? Well that takes out some of the scare factor from the monster but in the end it did not matter since there was a monster face to face about to eat her or kill her or something horrible. Her inner survival instincts was slowly gaining control when the monster reached out for her. "Hey! Hey you dingbat! Why the hell are you frozen still or better yet why are you not screaming in absolute terror yet? Never mind the less important things, RUN!" Her inner self yelled at her. She looked about prepared to book it but then she heard the monster say something in a twisted and strained tone. "Se..s...t..ra..?!"

Whatever was going on she was not dead yet, of course something about the creature seemed sad to her. Almost like a little lost puppy. "There there, no need to do anything rash. I am not going to harm you, in fact I want to be friendly to you. How are you doing dear Sestra?" Azuma smiled brightly while keeping her cool. She had watched plenty of horror movies, most of the time characters would panic blindly and get themselves killed, but of course most people who stay calm and collected get out alive...most of the time...However her inner self yelled at her. "Yeah, lets make friends with a monster who killed that poor boy who entered here. Oh I have a better idea! Lets make some tea and biscuts and throw a---Are you this dumb! I mean sure you are the friendliest person anyone has ever met for for gods sake me! This is no time to be talking to a monster that wants to EAT you! Or kill you...Or do whatever it wants to do. You have the power to delay this beast from killing you! You got...lasers and light bombs and whatnot! Why am I even talking to you!? Run!" Her inner voice begged her to go but she knew better.Trying to walk back may upset the monster, so maybe a calm conversation and a bright smile would work...At least that's what she hoped. If she had to run she will get injured and her clothes would be ruined then she would have to go to a hospital and then she had to work for ages to pay the bill back. Why was she thinking about that stuff? There is a good chance she could die right here in this old hospital.

Viktoriya pauses and stares deeply at Azuma, her head tilting some as she spoke. If she had ran, screamed, or tried to attack then the rage would have taken hold, but she stood there, and responded. Regardless of Azuma not understanding Russian, she responded with words that triggered a few fragments to snap into place within the snow of the creature's mind.

"How are you doing dear Sestra?"

Her hands and eyes twitched, then with her upper set of arms she reached up to her neck and unhooked something from it then held it out in front of Azuma. Connected to a silver chain was a beautiful round locket with a snowflake shaped symbol engraved in the center and embossed around it were the the words: Никакая сила не будет держать нас друг от друга, мы одно сердце, одна душа. She held it out to Azuma, shifting her gaze to it, fumbling with it with her claws before hitting a button that pops it open and a soft Russian folksong, sounding hauntingly melancholy.

Within the locket was a picture of a Russian family, a proud looking tower of a man with wavy hair dressed in military attire stood next to a blonde woman in a blue dress with ribbons. Standing between them, however, were two young girls in white dresses with long blond hair and light blue eyes, nearly identical twins for all intents and purposes, and not a far cry from Azuma herself. Viktoriya held the picture up to her to see, and began to mutter again as if trying to form words, but came out as incoherent utterances, but the tone, though guttural, was one with emotional familiarity. In the eyes of the beast, Azuma was the long unseen counterpart of both minds combined, their sister, as confused and infested mess as they had become.

But this moment of peace could not last, inside the locket was a mirror, and through that mirror Viktoriya saw her reflection. She stops trying to speak, cutting off abruptly, just staring at the monster that looks back. Her whole body seizes up, her pupils shrink into vertical slits, her ears draw back, and she begins to spasm. She lets go of the locket and it falls to Azuma's feet as Viktoriya holds her head begins to make a sound like choking and gasping, before letting loose a blood curdling scream, raising into a pitch not humanly possible until the remaining windows in the building explodes into a storm of glass.

Dan's heart rate shot up. If anybody had been in the dingy little room with him they could've heard it. Time seemed to slow around him as the windows across the street exploded, and that sound. That scream. It was faint at this distance, with so many obstacles between himself and the source but he still heard it. He'd that sort of scream once before.

In America, it was far away then, too far away. This time though..

His body reacted faster than his mind, adrenaline probably. Nothing even registered until he was well out his window, arms cut and legs..Not his own. He'd dove out without any thought or preparation. It didn't matter though, wings erupted from his back before he hit the ground. Wings would be too slow though, so he dropped to the ground and let the harsh, avian-looking things his legs had become do the work.

Sixty miles per hour ain't so bad for a human.

He knew he needed to be fast in more ways than one though. No time to search the building, no time to stop and look. No time for anything. Last time he heard that sort of horrifying scream six people had died. Whatever made it was probably the same thing that killed that girl today. It probably only scream because it had another victim, too..That's what the beast inside him would do.

He closed in on the hospital in seconds, running straight at his break-neck speed. A split second before impact with the outer walls he lowered his head and closed his eyes, skull turning to plate, forehead splitting into scales and horns. What resulted was nothing less than explosion. Dan rammed straight through, his "logical" response to needing to search the hospital quickly.

Walls started buckling like cardboard to him, one after another barely a second apart until..

His entire body froze, bones almost breaking. Sixty miles an hour, body in overdrive, unnatural strength and the head of a dinosaur actually full on collided with something much tougher than wall. Too bad for Dan the world was spinning from the whiplash. He couldn't even look to tell if he sent the thing flying, impaled it or what. All he knew was he hit something bigger, and angrier than he was.

Not a good thing to know.

Azuma stared at the pendant the creature showed her, although she could not read the words she knew it was Russian. As she looked at the pendant, she listen to the music it played and looked at the picture. The family in the picture had the same type of features she had, and being a smart girl she knew that this monster was once a person in the picture. So this monster used to be a Overed, and this was the result of what happens when the virus takes control...She felt sad for the monster, to be turned into this beast. She slowly raised her hand to touch the beast but that's when the beast looked into the mirror inside the locket and began to spasm before letting out a blood curdling scream.

She covered her ears as beasts roared, causing whatever windows that remained standing to shatter. She instinctively picked up the locket and leaped out of the building through one of the now windowless windows. "Time to nope the heck out of here! I did not ask to fight! Mirrors are evil!" She yelled as he leaped through the window. Of course she conjured a barrier behind her in the event the monster did chase after her, she dared not look back but she could hear more destruction in the hospital, but have been the monster destroying the hospital in a blind rage. She did feel sorry for it, but right now her focus is on running for it then return the locket back to it without said mirror.

Viktoriya stops upon hearing a loud crashing leaving her too distracted to witness Azuma's escape. Before she could react, the cooridor walls explode with debris and she is struck by something sending her stumbling back into the other wall. As the dust filled the air, she stood back up, feeling her side, blood dripping from a fresh puncture wound triggering vague memories of their last human moments. Again..? Survival instincts began to take hold, just like before, and a rage welled up inside. The image of the monstrous Gjaum was superimposed over the Chimera Overed. Pupils dilate, eyes aglow, breathing intensifies, muscles tense, hair stands on end. You?!

Without any warning she swiftly lunges at Dan leaving behind brief blue streaks from the light of her eyes, the dust in the air being blown away into rolling spirals. To her eyes time seems to slows down, her nervous system set on overdrive. She glares deeply at her opponent, vision warped by the virus' ravages of her mind, rage bubbling over. She snorts out hot breath, draws up onto her hind legs, and strikes in retaliation aimed at his chest with her lower set of arms with a mighty thrust.

The impact was like a bus, Dan barely had time to react before his body was forced through a solid wall. "Of fucking course.." he thought, "It just had to be a Chimera Gjaum.." Of course said thought was fleeting, considering how fast the thing was. He didn't have time to do anything before the thing's fists connected with him. He had no chance to block the blow, but did manage to solidify his skin into the harsh, layered hide of a Rhino.

Not that it helped much. It kept anything inside from breaking more, but it still hurt like hell. At least that girl seemed to get away safe.

""Well...Shit." Blood sputtered out of his mouth as he spoke, which was all it took today. Today was a really bad day. Today Dan wanted to hit something. Hard. Very hard. With a roar to match Vik's he shot from the wall, arms extending and bursting into furry, burled masses. He leaped and swung down hard with both fists, hoping to crush the damn thing's skull.

Or you know, at least hurt it a little.

Once Azuma was far enough away from the hospital, she scrambled for her phone and dialed the number for the police. The phone rang for a few minutes until a voice replied. "Hello, emergency ser---" Before the operator could finish his introduction Azuma cut him off in an instant. "Yeah! Yeah! When someone calls the police then they have a real emergency on their hands! I am at the abandoned hospital and there is a monster that had just killed a person and is currently rampaging and destroying the place! Send the armed forces! Send in trained people who hunt monsters! And for the love of everything hurry!" Azuma jumped up and down hoping that jumping would let the operator make the right choice. "Alright miss, we are sending multiple squad cars to the location. Just stay calm and---" "Well you guys can fix this situation. I am leaving before I die. Later!" Azuma smiled and closed the phone. Then she ran off back to school, at least school was much safer than this place.

Viktoriya huffed, still on edge as ever. She wasn't going to wait, the monster was going to stay down, it wasn't going to break her a second time. This was, at least, what the memories and voices told her as they fed her with the most unpleasant memories of her Overed life. She snapped her jaws wide open, took a deep breath, and... before she could finish the sonic attack she found herself being struck atop the head, with enough force that her unprepared body was brought down against the floor shaking the entire foundation. The thickness of her skull and bones preventing it from being lethal, but still causing great pain rattling her brain and causing everything to blur.

The sonic burst was not cancelled, the Hanuman strain activates and a deep resonating boom is released from her throat against the floor causing a ring of dust to shoot outwards and the floor to bounce. Uneen was the support underneath it, already weak from age, had been reduced to splinters and dust causing the floor under them to give off a loud groan before suddenly giving way sending her falling into the basement below, dust once again filling the air. Her enhanced strength and reflexes however once again prove a benefit, catching herself and landing on all six then jumping back, slamming over old desks and gurneys. Her whole body ached now, bleeding from the side from Dan's horn, bleeding from the mouth and nose, a couple dislocated shoulders, and to top it off...

"N...nyet," was a word she uttered after finding her neck lacking a certain locket. Topping off this thought, she didn't remember if the one she believed was her sister ever escaping. A feverish thought went through her head, he killed her, and now he will kill you. She grits her teeth and forces out her breath as a strained hiss and proceeding to pop her dislocated limbs back in place, and forcing her senses into overdrive with the Hanuman strain.

The floor giving way was quite the unwanted surprise, although really the sonic attack itself was the real unpleasantness. Dan could feel every bone in his body vibrate and various veins threatening to burst from the pressure. The world spun and he even lost his hearing which sent panic through him. He screamed in dismay, but the fall cut him short.

It only took a moment, but the second he realized he was falling his wings deployed, battered as they were.

But it wasn't like usual, it was instinct, it was pure. It felt amazing. Beyond amazing even. His body jerked and contorted in the air to stabilize. He didn't even realize he was giving his body the mental requests to perform such actions, but he was. Faster than ever before, all of a sudden all of his movement was natural. Too natural. It was pure rage driven fight or flight at it's most base.

His body choose fight.

The monster now well below him sprung around to catch itself, clanging among the desks and debris. A smart tactic generally, but dangerous around and untamed animal. Dan propelled towards the creature at stop speed, grotesque mouth open and salivating, row after row of gnarled teeth exposed.

"I'M GUNNA SHRED EVERY INCH OF FLESH FROM YOUR BONES, YOU MURDERING FUCK!"

This adrenaline, this fight, this struggle, it was triggering a torrent of bad memories within the broken mind of the creature. Eyes centered in on what she sees as the Gjaum that attacked her, heart rate pushed into overdrive, every muscle tensed. As if by cruel fate, this was perhaps the closest thing to clarity in years, as askew as it was. Memories of lying and bleeding, side by side, hand-in-hand, and after that shards of thought. There are no memories of survival or death, pain tells more for the former, but why was... thinking so difficult? And the locket is missing.

Then she watches as the monster dives, straight at her, ready to strike, an action demanding a reaction. With a quick jerking motion she pushes down with her legs and lifts up, her four arms now free of the floor once again standing on her hind legs. She was not going to run.

Then she heard the creature scream, violent, bloodthirsty but... murdering..? It speaks? They understood some English. It was calling her a murderer? Why? She had killed this Gjaum before, she knew it, yet here it was, again. again..? It was this exact same monster she and her sister had killed before, and after that, killed again and again... it was confusing. How can there be so many, why is there gaps in memories of what happened after the first. Her head was filling with screams, it is so hard for her to think clearly. It is his fault, he did this to me! Her rage was rekindled, confused, rumbling forth in a frenzy. Eyes aglow, massive rows of razor sharp teeth bearing, she swung at him putting little thought into any strategy.

"WHAT... TO ME!? TO... SESTRA!?"
