"Yeah...this is going to hurt."

a character in “The Walking Dead: Episode 1: Bad to Worse”, originally authored by legacy14, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Sam Bryant

AGE: 24

PERSONALITY: Smart and honest, Sam has found this to be quite the bad combination at times, often resulting in him being called a few choice names. Add in his knack to 'think-as-you-go' and he sometimes has more than his fair share of trouble. Despite all this, he has an incredible gift, able to separate himself enough to focus completely on the task at hand while still being able to take precautions at what might come next. Sam isn't exactly what you would call a people person; while he has no problem conversing and getting along with others, he can't help but shake his head and roll his eyes at most individuals.

BACKGROUND: Sam grew up in a household with only one other sibling and was actually the brains of the family. Every year, he made the honor roll in academics and graduated a year early from highschool. He was a very active kid and all the way through school, preferring the outdoors to their crowded house and often spent times camping and exploring the woods with his cousin. Through his years, he also played various sports, earning a few scholarships along the way. He suffered a bad injury that pulled away his four-year ride in college during his senior year football season. Because of this, he enrolled in the E.M.T. program at the local college and was accepted at a hospital right after graduation. When the outbreak occurred, he was studying for the state's Paramedic licensing exam.

APPEARANCE: Just under six foot, standing at 5'11''. Sam is lean and athletic with slightly tanned skin. His short brown hair naturally spikes out in the front above his dark blue eyes. He keeps himself in relatively good order and is nearly always clean-shaven. When not in his E.M.T. uniform, he wears straight cut blue jeans with a black shirt under a light brown jacket.

So begins...

Sam stared at the man, dumbfounded. He had been trying to reason with him for the last five minutes and was still getting nowhere. He and Cane, his partner, had arrived hours ago when they got the call to forget about the hospital and use the Military's evacuation point instead. Just before they rolled through the gates, the man they had in the back of their Ambulance had flat lined. He had suffered so many scratches and bites that he was bleeding from almost every limb on his body and Cane worked his ass off trying to revive the man. He had just given up when the man lurched violently and started throwing up that black mess all over the back of their van. Cane was bit trying to restrain the man and was taken when they arrived. Sam had jumped in the back to help Cane and succeeded in getting the blood and filth all over his uniform.

"Sir, we can't allow you to leave." The man in the HazMat said for the hundredth time. "Jesus Christ..." Sam replied and gestured ten feet behind the man where his ambulance was parked. "It's right there. I'm not leaving, I just want to change my damn clothes since you took my partner, won't let me respond to the million other calls we have around the city and won't even let me help here." The man sighed and looked around. "Hurry up." Sam didn't wait for him to change his mind and ran up to the Ambulance. They had taken the keys when he and Cane arrived, but the doors were unlocked. He hopped up and grabbed his bag that sat in between the seats.

They had removed the man in the back so he had a bit of room to change, being careful not to step in the crap on the floor. When he was finished, he grabbed up his kit again and stuffed anything he might need in the bulky bag. They probably weren't going to let him back in here a second time. He heard a commotion outside and the man watching him left in response to something else. Sam took the opportunity to open the glove box and grab the gun Cane kept there. An older .45 with a ten round clip. He made sure the safety was on and tucked it away. He was about to leave when his eyes caught on Cane's jacket over the seat. The two of them had seen enough cases to know he wasn't coming back. Sam rummaged through the pocket and pulled out his partner's two pictures he kept there and tucked them away as well.

Sam stepped out of the van and set his kit down to pull his brown jacket on, glad to be out of the filth stained clothes finally. He raised the strap over his neck to let the bag hang down his side and walked back to where others waited.

Everything seemed to be happening so fast. First she was prepared to fight for her safety with two men advancing, then in the next moment a voice roared from behind her; causing the men to reconsider their actions. Aislin turned towards the voice, taking a deep breath as she prepared for whoever it was had come to her aid. Her eyes immediately locked on the man's Revolver, and she sheathed her blade, smiling sheepishly.

"Oi, I suppose when yer' throwin' that thing around I do look a bit foolish." Her mood seem to change dramatically in a few moments. She regained her composure and released a hearty chuckle. Aislin's accent was strong, but not enough for a high chance of misinterpretation. She studied the man before her, assessing him by his appearance. His multicolored beard reminded her of her grandfather, and she couldn't resist smiling. She felt calm around this man, he seemed trustworthy to her. Her people-assessing skills had yet to fail her, so she decided to trust them now.

"My name's Aislin. I appreciate yer' help with that bit back there," her head nodded behind her towards the men, "-that could have gotten messy quite fast. I promise you, I'm not usually such a ball o' rage as that. It's just I've been 'ere fer' too long and that cage isn't going to 'old those beasties out fer' much longer." She sighed, shaking her head. What a wonderful first impression you've created for yourself, Aislin. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed a man approaching with a brown jacket and bag at his side. Her initial reaction marked him as a threat, but she sternly suppressed that thought and gave him the benefit of the doubt. She looked back up at the older man, her eyes shifting often to see if anyone else were to challenge her. She only really paid attention to the man with his head in his hands against the wall, and the man who had just entered the area.

"Now what may I call you?"

Sam stared at the fence along with the majority of the other survivors. Personally, he was surprised the gate was still standing. The memory of wrestling the one that bit Cane off of him was still fresh in his mind and didn't sit too well. The man had been almost half his size, yet it took almost everything to tear him from Cane's arm. Just before they arrived and the military guys bashed in the man's head. So much for trying to save his ass... And there was more than one on the fence. Tense was an understatement if trying to describe himself at the moment.

And the fact that everyone around seemed to be flashing weapons around at everything and anything every chance they had. It was pretty obvious everyone should have some kind of firearm or weapon, else they probably wouldn't be here in the first place. Yet, it would be alot easier to bear if they weren't pointing them at humans and turned them on the geeks tearing at the fence. It seemed like the guy in the lawn chair had the right idea until the suits took his gun. And was that other guy...drunk?

Sam nudged his bag with his foot and kicked at the latex gloves hanging out the side. The gloves were always the first things he grabbed when responding to a call. Earlier they had kept the gunk and crap spewing from the man in the back of their Ambulance from getting all over his hands. Cane never believed in wearing them, they always hung out of......

The man in the lawn chair walked over and spoke to a few of them talking of a way to get out of here. Sam barely heard him as he knelt and grabbed the gloves from the bag. They were Cane's gloves, and this was his bag. And that meant.....

...Anyone have any... ideas? Speak up, we need a plan...

Just then a helicopter all but fell out of the sky and startled the rest of them as Sam's hand closed around the metal in the bag.

"I do." He said to the man as he pulled out the spare keys to their Ambulance Cane always kept in his kit. Sam gestured toward the ambulance behind them. "It'll be a bit cramped and there's gunk and crap on the floor, but there's rails and shelves to hold onto and has plenty of gas still. This was our first call today. Plus it's an F-350. More than enough to get through the fence.

Aislin's ears perked. Just a few yards away a man was speaking in an accent quite like her own. She smiled, he was definitely someone she would make a point to talk to. It was nice hearing the voice from her homeland, it comforted her despite the situation... The situation that was just about to get worse. The next thing Aislin heard was a copter. Her heartrate increased momentarily, images of rescue flashing through her mind, before she noticed it's awkward jerking patterns. It swayed in the air, almost as if it was attached to a string and being swung around. Within the blink of an eye she was staring at a screeching chunk of metal crashing through whatever was in its way. The next horror was the pilot: that poor soul. She watched the fragments of what once was a man stagger around before finally collapsing in a pool of his own blood. Taking a deep breath, she turned away from the sight, figuring that the girl and the man who ran to him would make sure he didn't come back.

The next thing on her mind was a seemingly straight cut man. His hair had been spiked and his facial hair was shaved and appeared professional. The next thing out of his mouth was about the ambulance, and all of her focus was on him. This is it. This is our way out. Aislin started towards the man, stopping a few feet away to his side, waiting until after the pair had asked to go.

"I'd accompany you too, if ya'd have me. I can be of use medically if ya' need any assistance-I know a thing or two about Biology." She smirked, she was proud of her educational background. All through her schooling, she had worked as hard as she could, desperately trying to gain scholarships to afford coming to America. Some great thing that did. Regardless, she liked feeling useful, and would perform anything asked of her with little to no hesitation.

After Troy sheathed the knife he heard the man that argued with the suits, asked if anyone has a plan. Sure, Troy had a plan, but one that didn't include avoiding the monsters. Troy would rather be gung-ho and take as many of 'em as one can to escape. Seeing their work on the outside, well even if they all have a fighting spirit they would end up getting munched on. That was when another young guy came forth with a bag and mentioned he can take us in the Ambulance. Troy looked over to see the one that came in from earlier. This guy must be one of them medics or something. Troy made his way toward the group but stopped short on the sound of a helicopter. Troy quickly spun around to see what could have been their salvation, turned out to be another nightmare.

In came the copter like a bat out of hell and it crashed into the EVAC center. "Of all the fuckin' things!" Troy shouts as he watched the crash. Then was followed by a what looked like half a man, stumbling out and dying. "Shit!" Troy shouted again and walked up to the group. As he walked up two more people appeared, a man and a woman. It seems they want to catch the next bus out of here. If the the ambulance was their best shot out of here, then Troy is sure as hell he wants to go. "Wha' in the hell is goin' on 'ere!?" Troy shouted making his presence known. As he heard the others speaking of how much room they could hold, Troy didn't want to miss his spot. "Oi! I'll be takin' that one way trip outta 'ere too!" Troy boisterously called out after Aislin spoke. "I ain't goin' to be these fuckers next meal!" Troy spoke as he gave them a look of determination. He isn't going to be left behind, he's going whether they like it or not.

"He's drunk...at least I hope..." Sam thought as the man who had been antagonizing the geeks along the fence strolled over and started shouting at them. His accent was pretty strong but he made his intention pretty clear. As did the other girl with the eye makeup and slightly easier accent next to the older gent. The other woman seemed a bit older than himself, as well as the man with her. They looked oddly familiar, like he'd seen them somewhere before. Maybe the hospital during one of his runs?

"It's fine, It's fine." Sam said. By his count, that was seven people, eight if the girl nearby with the blue bandana around her wrist came as well. "It will be a bit cramped, but the bed was taken out when we got here so there's room. He took up Cane's kit again and strode to the back of the ambulance and opened the doors. His kit lay on the floor to the right, where he left it. He placed Cane's bag on top of his. "Someone can sit on that, nothing inside will break." There was also a long bench on the right side that could sit three comfortably, four in this case, with a cargo net lining the wall behind the passenger seat to hold onto. A large cabinet was built into the bench where various supplies were kept. More cabinets scaled the wall to the right side as well as another seat where a technician such as himself, or paramedic would sit to tend to the patient.

Sam reached up into the cabinets on the left and pulled two plastic morgue drapes free to lay down over the coagulated blood and muck left behind from the animated man. It was too apparent on the large space in the absence of the stretcher that normally occupied it. "That should do it. Anybody else?" He turned back to Christopher. "I'll drive, I take it you're up front with me?"

CHRISTOPHER PARKINGS

Christopher looked at everyone, sighing. He was thinking what he should do. These people looked pretty desperate in his eyes, but he needed to think about himself as well. He stepped forward to the group, "Look, I don't know you people." He stated, "But I can see you all are desperate for some help. I know this city like the back of my hand, hell, I drew half of it." It was true, although he was exaggerating. He only actually worked as an Architect for 3 years. "Goddamnit, Im not sure if that van will fit all of us, but if we squeeze together...maybe."

"Ah, what the hell, lets go. Let me grab that gun that jackass took from me." Christopher walked over to a table and took it out of a plastic bag. He hadn't paid any attention to the Walkers for the past hour and he didn't want to.

Troy wasn't surprised the dead decided to pick now to get the drop on them. They're only chance of survival seemed hopeless, but Troy wasn't one just to go down quietly. Grabbing his bag he packed up earlier, he unsheated his trench knife and began to make a mad dash for the van. It was still they're best bet of escape whether Walkers stood in their path or not. Troy ran by the others and looked for the guy with the bag (Sam Bryant) and ran up to him. "Oi! Friend!" Troy called out to him. "Yer the one who knows how to drive this thing and yer comin' with me." Troy spoke as he placed his hand on his shoulder. "Come on we're gonna die if we don't move it!" Troy exclaimed as he looked ahead. Walkers closing in fast and Troy wasn't sure if he could handle them all. "I hope you got a weapon with yeh, otherwise it don't look good." Troy spoke keeping a firm hand on the guy.

Troy immediately let him go of him, when a Walker lunged from his side. Taking the knife he made a quick swipe as he pierced the side of it's head. He withdrew the blade as the sack of flesh dropped. Troy noticed more coming and grew frustrated. "We gotta go now!" "Either yer comin' or give me the fuckin keys!" Troy demanded. Troy wasn't going to wait around much longer. Time was definitely not on their sides.

Sam didn't have any other belongings besides the kit and everything in the Ambulance and was still fairly close to it when the gate came crashing down. Most of the others had been trapped on the other side of the fence and where the geeks were flooding in. He decided to get to the van before too many were on him when a firm grip grabbed a hold of his clothing and pulled him off balance. As he twisted and pulled against the grip, he heard a rough accent yelling at him. Troy finally let go of him and kept yelling at Sam to come on or give him the keys. "Just get in the damn van already!" Sam yelled back.

Sam jumped in the driver's seat and started the Ambulance as Troy kept his guttural yelling. "Shut up already!" He snapped. There was no way Sam was just going to floor it and take off without the others, but there was a horde of geeks and a gate in his way. "Ah Fuck it!" Sam put the pedal to the floor and shifted the gear to drive. The van stuttered a second as it crashed over the fence and the few geeks clawing behind it. They bumped and banged over undead bodies as Sam tried to avoid hitting too many at once.

He drove past the survivors to allow them access to the back of the van and stopped as close as he could to them without hitting anyone. He left the Ambulance running and opened the doors to the back. "Hurry up! Get in!" He yelled over the sounds of destruction.

Shit hit had hit the fan.

As the fence fell Matt pushed kate behind him and raised his pistol, "Everybody! Gather to us and make a triangle formation! women to the back, men to the front!" the two moved back towards the older man, Kate watched as the Hazmat man tried to run, but the bulk of his suit slowed him. The walkers quickly overtook him, he went down with a scream, it was quickly silenced. The triangle formation was working, Kate not having a gun kept a eye out for any walkers getting too close for comfort. The ambulance busted through the fence and took down a few Walkers, the back doors opened and the paramedic yelled for them to get in, Kate was one of the first inside, she quickly turned back to help the others in, offering her outstretched hand to whoever needed it.

Of course, the second things start ta' look up the bloody wall crashes in. Lovely.

Aislin tightened the straps on her pack as fast as she could before reaching for her AK 47 automatic knife. It wasn't a very long knife, so she'd have to work twice as fast to avoid direct infection via a nasty bite. Not to mention it would hurt like a bitch, and the chances escaping after one grabbed me are little to nothing. Plus, I'd be shot after that bite, no doubt about it. Then again, the adrenaline in my bag has the potential to- Aislin's thoughts were stopped short as she became aware she was face to face with a repulsive blood-spewing zombie. She wanted to freeze, petrified with fear. But she didn't have time for that. Her body instantly went into survival mode. Twisting her torso to the side so she was facing down, she lifted her leg and shoved hard, sending the undead abomination back away from her face, out of her danger zone. Immediately memories of all her kickboxing classes flooded her memory, and then all contemplation of the situation left her head. There was no thought process. Her instincts took over.

Flicking the knife in her hand out, she dove forward, running low to the ground until she was upon the walker she kicked down. Within an instant the knife was lodged into his eye socket, and she pulled it back just as quickly as she had been upon him. Next thing Aislin attempted was to swing her right leg up, following an invisible arch as her left hand planted on the ground to steady herself. Sure, she sort of hit one walker in the jaw, but the next one was a larger man. Her foot hit his stomach, stopping her motion instantly. Rebounding off his body, she lost her balance and fell back on her elbows. The fat fleshy being started towards her, scratching her leg in the process of pulling her body towards his mouth. After releasing a short scream, Aislin's other foot made contact with his face. A satisfying crunch signified she had hit him hard enough to break his nose, perhaps even splitting his vomer. She didn't waste time. She rolled back up onto her feet, dashing towards the ambulance that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Dodging zombies left and right, she finally made it to the vehicle and grabbed the woman's hand, hoisting herself into the back.

Red Flowers

Several things happened at once, but Red didn't process them until later. All that mattered was reaching that ambulance. The man who had shot down the zombies around her was helped by an older gentleman and she followed the older one's instructions to follow. In no time, he had taken hold of the woman's hand and leaped into the ambulance and stumbled nearly to the front of the vehicle. The driver there looked hurried and panicked.

Twisting about, Red saw more nearly to the ambulance. She didn't know these people, she owed them nothing. Except that man who helped her, the one with the sunglasses unfortunately. Rushing forward, she two stretched out her hand, urging them to hurry up onto the ambulance. "Don't got all day!" she called, eyebrows furrowed, waving the last few forward. The two other women who had safely reached the van seemed just as eager to get everyone on board, but not as impatient. Red nearly growled and shouted, "C'mon!"
