"Only through a healthy body and mind can we become beings worth living."

0 · 445 views · located in The World of Ashan.

a character in “The War of the Gods.”, originally authored by Zephyrus, as played by Sambea

Description

God
Name: Jaylaer
Alias: The Great Healer, The Admirer, The Wrestler
God of: Healing and Sports
Domain: Jaylaer lives in an gigantic dome made from pure transparent glass. Unlike popular believe, the place isn’t one big hospital, as illness and wounds can’t enter this domain. Instead, it hosts a variety of flowers, little streams, hot baths and fields of grass. Most area’s are used for sports and other forms of competitive games. This is the main reason the dome is made from glass: Jaylaer enjoys watching these events from every corner. Privacy simply doesn’t exist here.
Appearance: Jaylaer appears a young, tall, muscled man, often competing in sports himself. He prefers wearing nothing, but he often puts on a simple pair of pants, because most of the gods are a bit put off by nudity. He also wears a golden mask that covers one of his eyes in order to look more mysterious.

Personality: As the God of Healing, Jaylaer is both compassionate and an admirer of healthy and beautiful bodies. He’s also very energetic and competitive, accepting every challenge as long as it remains a game. Some of the gods might view him as a hopeless romantic. Although he likes to cure people, he accepts the fact that every mortal has to die sooner or later. But the ones that don’t worship him preferably sooner.
Avatar: Gareth the Champion
Likes: Healing, beauty in both men and women, sports (especially wrestling)
Dislikes: Sickness, laziness, unfair play
Goals: Jaylaer likes to refrain from the upcoming crisis and thinks that every conflict should be settled through a friendly competition. However, he will work against anybody that inflicts unnecessary harm in war.
View on Mortals: People that can be admired and taken care for.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Equipment: As a god, Jaylaer can use healing magic without any consequences. He hardly uses this, as he believes that everyone who can’t survive a wound or illness by other means, is probably meant to die.
Personal Race: Humans

Avatar Skeleton
Name: Gareth Aquinn
Alias: The Champion
Age: 28
Occupation: As the winner of the latest Championship Games, Gareth became the religious and governmental leader of Layena.
Appearance:

Personality: Gareth, like his god, is very competitive and excels in every sport. Outside from this, he’s very bright, calm and shrewd. He takes pride in his city and the role it has in the world. On the other hand, Gareth isn’t a team player and can be both arrogant and narcissistic.
Likes: Sports, his city, reading books, mountain climbing
Dislikes: Suffering (unless it’s inflicted during a sport), cheating, criticism
Skills: Athletic, intelligent and control over a devout people.
Goals: To honour his god by letting his city produce the best healers and competitors.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Equipment: He sometimes can be seen wearing his gladiator gear, carrying a trident and a short sword. Otherwise, he wears a tunic made from the most expensive cloth and a sceptre that symbolizes his rule.
Family: Gareth is married to a priestess called Darlia, who was one of his prices by winning the Championship Games. Though they don’t love each other, they do have a mutual respect.
History: After the death of the last avatar six years ago, Gareth was one of the thirty competitors in the Championship Games. By showing his athleticism, skill and intelligence, he was named the new Champion, thus becoming the new ruler of Layena.

City-State Skeleton
Name: Layena
Population: Approximately 18.600
Military: The city holds no official army, but it has a small group of gladiators, wrestlers, archers and martial artists that are excellent fighters. Lacking discipline, they use guerrilla tactics if the need arises. Because the city is located in the mountains, it’s rather easy to defend. Downside is that it has no way of getting new food resources in a siege.
Culture: Almost all Layenaeans have either a job in the hospital or in one of the arena’s. They’re all devout believers in their god and his avatar. People from outside the city are only allowed access to the outer city, the place where the arena’s are located, unless they’re ill, state officials or willing to convert.

Almost every healer has a period in his (or her) life, where he sets out to other lands to help other people. A long time ago, this was done for free, but as money became more and more important, they nowadays charge for their services. Their healing skills are unparalleled in the mortal world though, so most people are more than willing to pay. They tend to be neutral in wars, tending for the injured on both sides. Sick people also travel towards Layena, as it’s the location of the best hospital in the world. Due to the monastic background of the city, most healers wear nothing more than a robe.

The city is also famous for its games, hosting an event at least every day. The biggest spectacle is the Games of Unity, in which competitors from all over the world compete for glory, honour and prizes. Layena is especially famous for full-contact sports, like gladiator games, wrestling and all kinds of martial arts, though (at least according to myth) they also invented athletics and certain ball games.

To the unsuspecting visitor, the city appears peaceful. But a dark secret is kept hidden, only known by the most devout people. The Layenaens use criminals, beggars and lonely travellers as human lab rats for the research of diseases and the experimentation of new medicines. Although they (usually) don’t enjoy this practice, it is viewed as a necessary evil. All people involved wholeheartedly believe that by sacrificing the few, they can save thousands. Rumours about this practice occur all over the world, but most people dismiss it as just that: rumours.

Description of nearby lands: Layena is located on the edge of a mountain range, called the Smethian Heights. On one side, there’s nothing but mountains. The other side is overlooking a valley, which is cultivated to feed the population. Though located in the mountains, the climate is surprisingly warm. Many caves and hot springs can be found in the mountains.
Description of City: A long time ago, a monastery was build on a large plateau on one side of a mountain, called Jaylaer’s Blessing, in which several hot and mineral springs were located. Over the years, more and more people came to the place, creating a city that is surprisingly large for a mountain city. The highest area is reserved for the Temple Palace: the seat of the government and the most holy place in the city. The hospital and wealthier resident area’s are located in the middle area, which also lends access to most of the caves in the mountain. The poorer people also live in caves, though these parts have been artificially cut out. The arena’s and other sport facilities can be found in the outer area. The whole city is defended by a thick wall. Most of the building material used consists of rock and marble.

Government Type: Theocracy
Important Figures of the City: Apart from Gareth, who rules the city as the Champion, there are his three advisors: The Master Healer, The Games Master and the Foreign Affairs Advisor.

Lihanna Storm – She’s the Master Healer, considered to be the best healer in the mortal world. Not only is she an advisor, she’s also the one responsible for the laboratory; the place where human experiments take place. She’s 52 years old, short and not a particular attractive woman. She loves taking care of people and is one of the few Layaneans who could care less about playing sports.

Rayfor Kamea – He’s the Games Master, the one in charge of organizing all the events in the city as well as training the ‘army’. He’s an handsome, though a bit simple, 27-years old man who became an accomplished gladiator. Hateful tongues say he only got the job because he’s Gareth’s best friend, but he has proven to be more than capable of taking care of things.

Malcolm Merdevil – He’s the Foreign Affairs Advisor. A quiet and nervous man of 44 years old with a knack for diplomacy. His job isn’t considered as important as the other two, which is a source of frustration, but his advice can come in handy, especially in these changing times.

Important Facts/Others that people should know: Layena is one of the few places in the world where healing magic is actively practiced, though not on a large scale. There are multiple reasons for this: mastering it takes a lot of practice and even then is success never guaranteed. The biggest downside, however, is that the person who uses healing magic will slowly lose his or her mind. People who uses healing magic are usually declared insane by the time their 40-45. Because of this, only the most devout people to Jaylaer choose this path.

Also a little fun fact, the name Layena originally comes from La Jaylaer, the name in an old language, which means ‘the One that heals’.
