21
Region
The Prairies
Physical Description
Image
Rhys is around 5’10, with a slim but muscular stature. He has long black hair and his eyes are a striking greenish-gray. His leveling gaze unsettles people, so he never really had many personal relationships. He maintains a neat mustache/goatee combo, but something about his appearance always seems a little lazy.
Personality
Even though he has a piercing gaze, he’s actually a very amiable person, and enjoys meeting new people. He treats everyone with kindness and respect, unless they pose a threat or they’re an asshole.
Quirks
Rhys has a habit of chewing on things, whether it’s a twig, piece of grass, his pipe, or gnawing on his nails and cuticles, he always has to have something between his teeth. When ever he’s thinking hard about something, he runs his hands through his hair.

Relationship with Companion
Rhys met Kane when he was a week on the run. He was fifteen and had been travelling in the Grassland of the Prairies, Jester by his side. The tall grass that they waded through made it slightly easier to hide then when they were in the savannas and it put Rhys more at ease. The feeling ended when Jester stopped suddenly and crouched, his face in a silent snarl, his eyes pointed to the right. Rhys waited until the tall figure came into sight before pulling his knife out and leaping on him. Though the kid was taller, Rhys had more bulk and a lower center of gravity easily pinning him to the ground. Just before he went to bring the knife down, he made eye contact with the terrified guy and a flood of information seized him, (he wasn't as good at controlling how fast the information came to him), but the main thing that stood out in his head was the word Warg. Before Rhys had any chance to retreat the kid had turned the tables and held him pinned. Before the boy attacked him they both turned to see Jester sitting patiently on his haunches, Via perched calmly on his head. The animals had figured out their similarities before they had. Kane then had the same realization Rhys had. Since then, they decided to travel together, deciding that two was better than one.
Rhys has a tendency to treat Kane like his little brother at times, but holds only the highest respect for him. He respects him not only his Warging and fighting abilities, but also his personality and kindness. People tend to think Kane is older, only because Rhys is shorter than he is, and it's really the only thing that he gets ticked off about in their travels. Other than that, they've grown close over their years of travelling together, creating a strong partnership that has saved their lives more than once.
Talents
Other than his general warging ability, Rhys has Intuitive Aptitude. This means that he can instantly learn and understand the complexity and exactness of organisms, objects, and personal information of a person simply by looking at the object or making eye contact with the human or animal. This ability has made him an impressive healer, because of his knowledge of the human body and it’s inner workings, and his abilities to create remedies from the natural surroundings.
Animal Companion
A spotted Hyena named Jester.

The sun rose slowly coloring the sky with an array of pink, orange, and red shades. The air has the clean and brisk scent of a chilly spring morning. The grass is in dew, except in the savanna where the air and ground gets more dry the closer one get’s to the river, and of course in the Desert area, where the sun beats down mercilessly, and it doesn’t cool down until you reach the tundra. In the tropical section of the Forest lands, the air is alive with the sound of exotic birds and insects, in the deciduous part, it’s quieter, but songbirds still chirp with the chattering of squirrels and chipmunks occasionally interrupting their song. In the Badlands, everything is eerily quiet, and in the Mountains nothing is heard save for the sounds of whipping winds that get louder the higher one climbs.

For years Wargs have been on the run, trying to escape the hands of prosecution. Lately, there has been some talk. The people are talking of a safe place. One where Hunter’s cannot harm a Warg. It rests in the middle of the continent. It sounds like the best bet to those on the run, those in the Desert will travel north, those in Mountains; east, if placed in the Forests or Prairies; west, and those in the Badlands; south.

Wargs are not the only one’s aware of this place though. Hunters from around the region know of its location and the race begins. Survival being the ultimate goal.

Kane sat beneath the thinning cover of the tree line that bordered the wide expanse of the prairies. He had enjoyed watching the sun rise, a minor pleasure and not one he indulged in by choice. Via was particularly irritable in the morning, rising early with an unquenchable desire to interrupt Tyron's shallow slumber. Having brushed her of and sent the energetic eagle away to fetch her morning meal he didn't bother to do much except watch the sky and the horizon. He hadn't heard Rhys wake before he had left, although that was not much of a sign. Despite the clarity in which he viewed the world Tyron had become accustomed to his friend, much in the same way one would get used to the sights and sound of a town. His fellow Warg was the only one that could take Kane by surprise. Which was acceptable by the young man, he would trust his friend with his life and knew that the feeling would be returned.

With a drowsy sigh and a stretch Tyron stood. Welcoming the morning and yet another day before turning to stride back beneath the shade of the trees. Today was going to be a warm day, thankfully the forest offered protection from the sun as well as prying eyes. It was somewhat sad that the prairies were so empty, they were the epitome of freedom. Proud expanses of grass as far as the eye could see, even his well developed vision. Of course there were a few villages and towns out there but it wasn't so different to a desert in Tyron's mind. A few oases where life is suitable. After all, grass on it own has little to offer. Certainly for people like him who need to hide it isn't particularly inviting. Not that he didn't mind the forest, it was beautiful in its own way, specially for those who could hear the layers upon layers of life. He crouched next to a quaint stream, not a small one since it rose to his shins and was probably deeper further up. Dipping his hands in the cool water and splashing it across his face, moments of calm like this could never be fully enjoyed. The slick tickling sensation as the liquid dripped from his sun tanned features. He took a sip, it was even remarkably clean for a stream running through the forest. Yet he did notice a peculiar taste among the other unpleasantries, one that flowed down the running water. It was usual to have the tastes and scents of animals in forest water, but this one stood out and concerned him slightly.

Refreshed but not relaxed he continued his trek back to the campsite he shared with Rhys. Having settled a safe distance from the stream they were pretty much cloaked by the trees should anyone visit the water source. Via would be back soon and if the other two were awake they could eat whatever bounties the spring brought them and continue. Usually they didn't travel this far from their 'territory' and it was with caution. The rumors of a safe heaven for their kind was a little suspicious and perhaps too good to be true. Still, if it was true the possibility of a peaceful life was far too enticing. Regardless, that wasn't their immediate concern. As far as Tyron could tell there was no settlements nearby, yet without a doubt he had tasted human in the water. As disturbing as it sounds, he deals with it. Having such attuned senses can be a curse in more ways then one. It wasn't just a trace either, the stream was probably deeper before it reached his campsite. Deep enough for someone to bathe in it seemed, but who would was the more intriguing detail.

Rhys

Rhys was pulled from his restless sleep by something whimpering in his ear. He swatted at it, making contact with something furry. Opening one green-gray eyes he met the dark brown gaze of Jester. "What do you want?" he muttered. Jester stared at him a moment longer before he sighed and let the information that pushed on the edge of his mind trickle in. "Food." was the main word and her rolled his eyes. "Shit, can't you scavenge or something?" More silent staring. He finally picked himself up and stretched with a yawn, cracking his back and neck in the process. He looked around, and noticed Kane missing, but he wasn't worried. He knew that Kane was more than capable of taking care of himself. He glanced at the sky through the tree tops and saw who he assumed was Via, flying in wide circles around the camp. He grabbed his knife and stood quickly before touching the ground and letting the information fly through him. Kane could hunt with smell, he hunted by letting the earth tell him where everything was. Kane was nearby, then he felt a quail, about three yards away, smiling he closed his mind.

It took him only minutes to find the bird and kill it. He dunked it in the stream to loosen the feathers and then quickly skinned and cooked it. He put some aside for Kane and Via, even though he suspected that the eagle had already found something. He tossed pieces and Jester and then pulled out his pipe, stuffing it with tabacco and lighting it.

It was risky, he knew that, but he couldn't help it. He'd always had borderline worrying oral fixation issues. It was like he never stopped teething and ever since he had developed teeth, he'd always had something to chew on. It made him a perfect candidate for an impossible to quit smoking habit. He tried to smoke things that didn't have too much smell, some of those things were a little bit... well they had interesting side effects. He just decided it was better to be a little loopy sometimes than rip apart his fingernails and cuticles till they bled. He had finished the pipe by the time Kane returned to camp. "Hey kid, find anything interesting?"

"I was going to check if you were awake. Although it kinda was pointless since I could smell that thing from a mile away."

Light bit of banter wouldn't be amiss despite Tyron not being in the best of moods. Besides if he couldn't be relaxed with his friend he didn't have much to hope for. He had nothing against Rhys's smoking habit, except perhaps when the concoctions were somewhat too abnormal. The biggest problem was that it was almost toxic to Kane's nose. There ended up an unspoken agreement that Rhys would avoid smoking where the fumes would overwhelm Kane and Kane wouldn't complain about the about the distastefulness of the habit. Not that he found it particularly distasteful anymore. Just like he had become accustomed to the Rhys's so too had he become accustomed to his friend's lifestyle.

Even beneath the pungent odor the smell of burnt meat was still present. Cooked was more accurate, although cooking does require an amount of burning. Needlessly it perked Kane's sense of hunger. He shifted over and sat down, taking the remaining piece of meat as his meal. If Rhys hadn't already eaten before Jester and his smoke then something was a little odd so Kane didn't really check if the meal was intended to be his own.

"Thanks."

Kane's smile was sincere, Rhys was by far the better cook. After all he knew the intimate details about this particular fowl's existence as protein. He didn't particularly eat fast, savoring the the succulent taste whilst trying to avoid the more delicate defects in. Of course he couldn't waste too much time eating and so he polished off the remnants before revealing his discoveries. Dropping the larger bones before Jester if the hyena wanted anything else to gnaw on.

"Well I did find a beautiful view of the sunrise and a particularly bothersome feathered friend. Unfortunately I also caught track of someone else further upstream. I couldn't say for sure but between an hour or two away. No idea who it was but by the strength of the taste my guess is they're bathing where its deeper. Don't you find it unusual for someone to be so far from anywhere?"

In a normal world it would be notably disturbing to say you could taste someone in the sense Kane did. Except he didn't concern himself with that, he hardly knew how the normal world worked. Besides why hide such a small and pointless detail from a friend.

Rhys

Rhys knocked the resin out of the pipe and put it away, mulling over the information that Kane stated. He didn't even blink when his friend said he tasted human in the water. Kane's senses were insane, and hell, he could touch an something and learn everything about it, and he could look into a creature's eyes and know it's darkest secrets. "That is bizarre." He snatched one of the bones Kane had given to Jester and after cleaning it off, he started chewing on it lightly, thinking. If it was a Hunter, that could pose a threat... it would be better to kill it before it got to them. He spit out a shard of bone, "Only an hour or two away? What do you say to finding it and killing it, or would it be too risky?"

If he had been traveling alone, and knew about whomever it was, he would've tracked them down and eliminated them. But Kane was more cautious, and for good reason. Rhys actually attributed his extended survival to Kane's reluctance to dive into action. Jester came and put his head in Rhys's lap staring up at him. He patted the hyena on the head, running his finger's through Jester's spotted fur. The hyena cackled softly. He couldn't help but smile. He looked up at Kane thinking the suggestion over, but didn't say anything else because he knew his friend would come up with the safest option possible.

Kane lent his elbows on his knees and rested his chin on his hands. Taking up the typical thinking 'man pose'. The possibility that the stranger was hunter had crossed his mind first. After all that was the most probable, they had the best reasons to be out here. The pair of them had experience from some previous run ins and were right to be cautious. Between his kind and the Hunters it's kill or be killed, hunt or be hunted. A vicious circle. As much as he hated to admit it, Rhys's idea was almost necessary. He smiled as he looked up to Jester's giggling. What a perfect world it would be if his friends could live in peace.

"I think we should." Tyron announced. "We need to know. Specially if this person is following us."

He left off the unspoken agreement. If the Hunter was following them they would have to deal with him. Or her. Although a female was rarer they couldn't assume a woman wouldn't have some private vendetta against Wargs either. If it existed the certainly couldn't lead a Hunter to this supposed haven.

"There is always the chance that they're no one special. Just some hermit or villager out on a hike. And tt may be a long shot but it could be someone like us, travelling to the same place. That would be something wouldn't it? After six years we find another one like us. Of course if that were so its natural you'll want to kill him. Must be habit."

He chuckled at the ridiculousness of the idea and the memories dredged up. Never once did he hold that attack against his friend. Often enough he brought it up for a good laugh together. Yet he was letting his hope get away with him, those chances were minuscule. His laugh had none of the hyena's spice, and it dissipated after a while. Its difficult to try and keep things lively when Jester and Via seemed so much better at it all. He left his input to the discussion at that and stood to go pack up what few belonging he had and to pick up the wooden staff that served as his weapon.

A flash of golden-brown plumage dropped through the sky like a missile. At the last moment Via spread her wings and sweep upon her prey. Talons latched into the unfortunate wood pigeon as the others scattered in terror. Having just been disturbed from their hiding into the path of a ruthless predator. The next few flaps by the eagle struggled a little, trying to climb with the extra weight. She didn't go much higher, instead aiming for a branch near her catch just under the canopy. Settling on the tree overlooking the stream she began to ravage the corpse. She had chosen this position deliberately, not having missed the pair that provided her with breakfast. Her yellow eyes watching them even as he ate. The down grey and brown feathers escaping and drifting down into the water and flowing away.

Rhys

"I think we should," Tyron announced, "We need to know. Specially if this person is following us."

Rhys smirked and spit another shard of bone out. Jester, feeling his companion's excitement, cackled again and jumped around, anxious for the hunt that was about to occur.

"There is always the chance that they're no one special. Just some hermit or villager out on a hike. And that may be a long shot but it could be someone like us, travelling to the same place. That would be something wouldn't it? After six years we find another one like us. Of course if that were so its natural you'll want to kill him. Must be habit."

Rhys laughed and rolled his eyes, delivering a soft punch on Kane's arm at the last bit. It had stayed a running joke between the two since they became more comfortable with each other. He wouldn't have attacked him if he'd been able to silence his mind then, it's amazing what a few years can do for honing in a skill. "Maybe you should've been quicker, I wouldn't have gotten so close," Rhys replied still smiling. Kane agreed with him though, that if whomever it was presented a threat they must be eliminated. Although the idea of another Warg filled him with a sense of wonder he hadn't experienced in a long time. Hell, if what was being said was true, there would soon be a whole city full of them. He snapped out of the train of thought when Jester pulled at his pant leg, when Rhys turned towards the hyena, it dropped a knife into his lap. Spitting out some more of the bone he jumped up and joined Kane in packing away the camp.

There wasn't all that much to pack up. Some basic supplies and utensils and it didn't take the pair of them much longer than a few minutes. Living on the move caused one to become rather efficient in these details. Jester was no help, what could a hyena do. Via wouldn't be able to anything either even if she was there. Kane didn't mind her absence, it would be impossible for them to cover so much ground that she couldn't find them. He was just curious as to why she was taking longer then he would expect.

"You ready Rhys?"

Having cleaned up most of her meal and leaving her beak darkened by the blood. Picking the last strands of flesh from the corpse. She left the corpse on the branch, there wasn't much left to catch the attention of any scavengers. Although not many scavengers would wander near the figure of a golden eagle. Via wasn't the biggest of her species around but she she still out scaled pretty much any other bird out there. A matter of pride on her part.

After cleaning a few feathers off her golden plumage she prepared herself to greet her new friends. Via was an assertive and perceptive bird. People would find that at to their own cost although except she didn't really interact with any humans other than Kane and Rhys. If they could be called humans, regardless that number was about to go up. Spreading her wings she leapt from the branch, causing a flutter in the leaves. She landed heavily at the edge of the pairs campsite. Tucking her wings into her sides and just watching, ready to flee.

Her golden eyes wandered over the three there. Blue certainly caught her attention, the same way Jester did when she met him six years ago. From the eyes of an animal, a companion stood out from the wild beasts. Where there was a companion there must be their partner. That wasn't much of Via's concern. She simply waited for their response, waiting for her new friends.

The gentle burbling of the stream was nearby, nothing particular about that. Almost seeming a peaceful day with two young men
strolling in the calm weather in the shade of the trees. Appearances could be deceiving of course. You wouldn't think that Rhys and Kane were hated men. You also wouldn't expect the hyena following them either. Tyron picked his path wisely, heading for harder ground with less chance of leaving tracks. It was near on impossible to actually prevent any signs of their passing ultimately but at least he tried.

Rhys

Rhys kept his at least two feet between him and Kane as the traveled through the forest. He tried to follow his steps as closely as he could, the less foot prints the less obvious they would be to a tracker... at least an amateur one. Jester worked a circle around them. He liked the fact Jester was a scavenger, it meant he would kill less animals when they traveled. This meant less evidence that they were around. He found that was what survival seemed to be about. Less. Talking less, making less noise, and killing less, meant more time. With a sigh he found himself thinking back to what life had been like before he had to leave. Silence hadn't really been his forte. He was cocky and loud, bordering on obnoxious. When he had first learned of his Warg powers he didn't keep them a secret. He shared it with his friends to get their fear and admiration, he shared it with girls to get them in his bed. It all took a turn for the worse about a month in. He had started to develop more psychic powers than simply melding his mind with Jester's. His brain was suddenly filling with information, it had made it hard to think of anything else than the things he was learning. This made it almost impossible for him to speak, unless he was blurting out something he was learning. He slowly became the town outcast. People chased and beat him just for shits and giggles. They threw stones at him and Jester. They taunted him with their normalcy. When word reached his village about the outlawing of Wargs, everyone was more than happy to oblige. They chased him and Jester out with fire and weapons.

He had been nervous about the idea of opening his mind to such a wide range before, but as they were getting closer, so he decided to give it a shot. He stopped and quickly pulled off his foot coverings allowing his bare feet to absorb the informations from his surroundings and feed them to his brain. After a moment of searching he finally found what he had been looking for. The girl Kane had tasted, but she wasn't alone. There was another girl. Sisters. And an animal... the one's pet... a wolf pup. His head began to ache so he closed the information off once more. He hadn't learned too much, but he knew how many they were facing. Tapping Kane on the shoulder he whispered his new-found information, "Two girls and a wolf pup, we've got another forty-five minutes until contact." He smiled, assuring himself that Kane and him were more than capable to handle the situation at hand.

Kane nodded, confirming Rhys's information. Picking up traces of scent from the atmosphere. They might even be in view if it wasn't for the forest in the way. Not that he was complaining about the cover. It was loose enough that someone might spot them from the sky but down here you would have to be pretty close to actually see someone. His eyesight didn't really help all that much. In this situation the pair of them complimented each other's capabilities perfectly.

"I can smell the wood smoke from here. Seems like they were cooking recently, with the wind direct..."

He broke off suddenly, into silence. Although it wasn't actually silence for him, through the wind and ambiance of wild life he could pick up what sounded like the screech of an eagle. He wasn't mistaken either, having grown up with Via he could recognize the call of an eagle anywhere. He sighed, guess she wanted his attention. Surely she couldn't have lost them. He didn't harbor any ill will against her, essentially family.

"Damn bird. You probably didn't hear it but Via is up ahead being noisy. No idea what she is up to. Maybe she spotted the two girls."

With that he set his staff into the ground and took a moment to close his eyes. Stretching his mind out towards his friend and companion. When he opened them again his vision was as clear as it would be if he focused. The images that he received weren't his own though. Although when he spoke it was for Rhys. Via's beak that was unsuited for human sounds anyway even if he could take command of it. Surely the bird was being a pain deliberately.

"Oh shit Via. Really?"

Even after having a meal Via had no problem snaffling up the tidbit tossed to her. She liked her friends already. Although they didn't like her. She was very disappointed after the younger human stoped the pup from coming closer. That would've been proof she was trustworthy and Blue was going to be her friend. Then again the little wolf pup was a little small to play with, not without accidentally hurting him. She would wait for Kane, he would find her eventually and they would all have new friends. Of course for an adult bird she was remarkably naive in some ways. Completely unaware or ignoring how Rhys and Tyron would respond to another encounter with humans.

Yet she still didn't take threats kindly, while the buttering up had got her feeling rather pleasant. She was a beautiful bird, and it was nice of them to notice. Of course she had no intent on leaving. Instead she hopped to the side, watching Taralie slightly aggressively and cautiously. Half screeching, half hissing at her. Via wasn't afraid of a human, at least she would't be if she let her pride get a hold but arrows were scary things to a flying creature. The screech wasn't all that loud. It wouldn't carry particularly far, but it was far enough for Kane's ears to catch unknown to her.

"Two girls and a wolf cub. They look really similar, probably sisters since the eldest isn't old enough to be the mother."

Tyron confirmed when his senses fully withdrew to his body. He sighed, even he had no clue what went through Via's bird brain. She may be more intelligent then the usual animal but the pranks she pulled bordered on stupid. At least to his mind, he was always one to be sure of what he was doing. He even took a small guilty pleasure in knowing more then others and operating fine while others were confused. Via was a sort of anchor, a touch of realism to dampen any sense of superiority. That was a good thing he had to admit to himself, otherwise he would feel like taking responsibility for the world, to exaggerate slightly.

"I have no idea why she is there but Via is right in front of them. So far it doesn't look like anything is happening. They're focused on her and from what I figure we're coming in from the back. The oldest looks tough and I spotted a pair of bows with them. She may be the hunter. Although why her sister is tagging along I can't imagine. The girl looks like she couldn't handle a fight."

With further reconnaissance completed Kane started off again. Slightly less cautious about tracks, instead he was listening to what Rhys had to say, if anything. Now they had a good grip on where the targets were he agreed with Rhys. A pair of young men, a hyena and a eagle were more then a match. Again it lit the doubts about whether the eldest girl was a hunter or not.

Rhys

Rhys nodded in understanding to the situation. It was simple. They already had the advantage, they had eyes on them, they were coming from the back, and Via, while observing was also distracting them. He couldn't have asked for a better situation. They finally reached the pair, still invisible behind the foliage. He pointed at the older girl and waited for Kane's nod in approval. He melded his mind through Jester. Through the hyena's eyes he looked at the little wolf pup. Jester growled in understanding, he pulled out of the hyena, nodded at Kane once more, and in one fluid motion he pulled out his knife, lept out of the tree's and wrapped his arm around the girl's neck, pressing the point of the blade into her throat.
"Kitty! Run!" she screamed out and the other girl bolted, and the girl he held hostage elbowed him in the stomach, surprised he released her.
She whipped a knife off her belt, there was a spot of blood running down her throat. She snarled him and launched. He defended himself from each of her blows, but finally she caught him, slicing him in the ribs.
"Fuck! You bitch!" he growled.
She launched at him again, and he grabbed her arm, twisting it behind her back. She screamed and it distracted him from the constant task of keeping his mind closed. It opened and information began searing through his brain.
Taralie Zenta, age 20, sister, Kitty Zenta, Blue. Fear.

He finally shut his mind and he pinned her to the ground. The adrenaline was wearing off, his side was killing him and he could feel the blood dripping down his side, soaking through his tattered shirt and pants. He looked around, Jester had the little wolf pup cornered, but wasn't in a fighting crouch. Instead he sat head cocked, staring intently at the pup, who was yipping and whining. It was like Jester was listening to him. Kane and the younger girl were nowhere to be found.
"Kane! What's your status?" he called out.
The girl struggled against him, and he pulled her arm tighter behind her back. She cried out again. He wanted to stop hurting her, in fact, he should probably kill her, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. Instead flipped her over and hit her Highest Spring, Spirit Tower Gate, Winnower Gate, and Sea of Blood pressure points, temporarily paralyzing her. She glared at him, and she began yelling at him, but he didn't pay attention. He didn't know if she knew where to hit him, but she got him good in his subclavian vein, it attached to the jugular vein and he was loosing a fair amount of blood. Kane had his medical supplies. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Pulling off his shirt he tore a strip off, wadded the rest against the wound and tied it in place. He slowed his breathing, but his vision was starting to redden.
"Kane!" he yelled out, but it wasn't as loud as he needed it to be, he turned to Jester, who had abandoned cornering the wolf, and stared at his human companion with concern. "Jester. Get Kane. Now."

Ralie

Ralie and her sister were sitting by the fire. They should probably move. The bird was freaking her out a bit, but they had been here for at least a week and had been without any hunting incident that long. They should leave, but for once Ralie was comfortable. She missed the feeling and selfishly wanted to maintain the feeling as long as she could. The bird whistled and she heard a growl. She assumed it was Blue, but then she heard leaves rustle and an arm wrapped around her neck, pressing a knife into her throat. It stung as it cut into her skin. It took her only seconds to react.
"Kitty! Run!" she screamed at her sister. She didn't wait any longer and elbowed her attacker in the stomach.
He released her and she pulled out her own blade, attacking before he could. He was bigger and probably stronger than her, but her small stature meant she was faster, but each time she threw fist or blade at him, he deflected it. Finally, she landed an attack, slicing his upper rib, blood spurted across her hand, but she ignored it's sickeningly warm presence on her skin.
"Fuck you, bitch!" he snarled at her.
Grinning, she went at him again, but he caught her arm and painfully twisted it behind her back. Forgetting all precaution, she screamed in pain, tears pricking at the corner of her eyes. For a moment it was like he just froze up and after a few minutes he pushed her to the ground.
"Kane! What's your status?" he shouted. Wait... there were two of them. Shit... Kitty.
She had to get to her sister, and tried to escape, struggling against his grip, but he only pulled her arm further across her back and she cried out in pain again. Then he flipped her around and abruptly hit a few spots on her arms, torso, and legs. She felt as though water was spreading through her body, filling them with an impossible weight, and keeping her pinned to the ground.
"What the fuck have you done to me? Who are you? Why are you attacking us? So help me god, as soon as I can move again I'm going to kill you! I swear to God!"
She waited for him to respond, but she saw out of the corner of her eye that he was trying desperately to treat the wound she had inflicted. His side was pretty much covered in blood. "Kane!" he called out the name again. A hyena ran to his side and he commanded it to find his friend before promptly falling to the ground.

It almost went off without a fault. Kane was in a position to grab and hold the younger girl while Rhys had his knife ready to stop the older one doing anything. Unfortunately for the attack pair Via chose to ruin things for Kane. Had Tyron grabbed Kathryn and threatened Ralie things could have been figured out without a full on fight. Although that was naive to think. In the first place they had come here with the intent to kill. He never even managed to grab the girl though. He got a face full of feathers, Via buffering him with her broad wings. Causing him to falter even as Ralie screamed and Kitty ran. He even got an accidental talon slice lightly across his cheek, the last straw.

"What the hell Via!"

He shouted in frustration, shoving her away. He had no time for whatever she was up to. He would apologies later, he wasn't even angry about the scratch. Oh it stung like hell, it felt like the side of his face was burning away. He'd experienced worse, unfortunately his sense of touch also applied to pain. Usually he could suppress it but he didn't have the time to focus on that. His adrenaline had started pumping anyway as he rushed after Kitty. The world didn't blur as he moved, it refined itself. He could see the a tiny dew drop on a leaf as he rushed past it. Every rise and fall of the forest floor and root protruding out. It was not struggle for him to simply dance over the objects. His feet picking their way exactly to give him firm footing. Like a cat chasing its prey.

He could hear the crashing as Kitty tried to run from him. He didn't make as much noise, dodging anything that intruded on his pursuit. From behind he could hear the snarls of Jester and the sounds and agitated shouts of the two combatants. Above, through the rustling of the leaves he could hear the air beneath his companion's wings. Right now he didn't concern himself with what Via was up though. His doubts had grown after all that had happened and now he hoped, of only a little. Rounding a tree he reached out and grabbed on Kitty's clothing. Shoving his stuff in the ground as leverage he yanked her back, halting her motion and sending her stumbling backwards to the ground. He proceeded to press the one and a half meter length of wood on her chest. Pinning her down.

"Kane!"

He heard through the treeline, back in the direction of their camp. Rhys sounded in pain for sure and weaker. Partly angry, mostly scared now for his friend Kane pressed his attention to his captive.

"Girl."

He snapped, shifting the staff off her. He pulled off threatening well since he was slightly agitated. Although his heart wasn't in the threat he certainly sounded and looked like he was. Normally he be larger then most people. From the ground that was probably emphasized.

"Get up now. We're going back. Don't try to run because I'll just catch you again and then when I drag you back I'll make your sister suffer. If she is still alive."

Before Kitty could fully comprehend what was happening, she was running. The shrill desperation in her sister’s voice prompted her to take off like a bat out of hell without questioning. Hunters! A large man, with strange straw like hair in bizarre coils was bulleting after her, but to her surprise the golden angel of an eagle swooped off the branch across from them and blocked his path. She mentally praised the animal as she took off through the woods like an agile rabbit. She was fast for her build, but sloppy. Her foot would catch soft patches in the ground, slowing her down, and the leaves were slippery underfoot. Her heart thundered in her chest, making it difficult to breathe. She jerked behind a tree, sure that she would be able to duck away and hide, but just as soon as she thought she would be free; something grabbed the back of her shirt. The sheer force of her own velocity suddenly being stopped knocked her backwards, causing her to land with a hard thud into the earth.

The wind was knocked from her chest, and the stranger’s face was blurry in her vision. Her mind instantly went to her sister, causing her eyes to glaze over as she shifted her vision into Blue’s scared hues. The wolf pup was staring down the muzzle of a hyena. The animal didn’t appear to be aggressive, only sitting there staring at Blue, as Blue barked madly at the creature as if trying to explain something. Her sister was hurt. She was on the ground. No! Kitty jerked her vision back to herself, finding herself pinned to the ground with a staff. The weight was painful, crushing her delicate ribcage. Bruises would bloom within the hour for sure. She reached up to try and shove the staff away, but the second her skin made contact her mind was jolted with flashes of information.

Kane|| Father. Grandparents. Run! Run! || It’s all my fault. Won’t cause you pain. || Pain. Loss. Fight. Friendship. Via.

“If she is still alive,” the man, Kane, was saying. Tears swelled in Kitty’s eyes, his old emotions still rushing over her, mixed with her own regarding her current situation. The staff had been removed from her chest, so he must have been ordering her to go back to the camp. It was just then that Blue joined her size, snarling darkly at Kane despite the man’s obvious size over the pup. The hyena must have let him go. Before Kane could hurt her friend, Kitty swooped down and scooped Blue up into her arms, crying out, “Don’t hurt him!” “It’s okay , Blue, it’s okay,” she whispered to the animal, glaring darkly at Kane. “You’ve got me, now let my sister go, hunter,” she spat, glaring up at him. “She isn’t a Warg, so call off your dog and just get it over with!”

Her words sounded firm, despite her shaking knees and arms. Blue continued to growl darkly from her arms, but Kitty held him close for fear of the hunter striking out at him with the staff. Maybe Blue would be able to out run him, if she couldn’t. Kitty’s eyes never left his, but she tried her best to use her peripherals to spot a soft place to toss the pup so that he could get away if Kane lunged at her. She didn’t make a move to do as he said, which would probably anger him, but she didn’t care. He was hurting her sister, even if it wasn’t directly by his hand. Obviously he was the head hunter, since it was the other one that was calling for him and not the other way around. Kitty took a slight step back, debating on her choices, though she knew that they were slim. Kane was bigger, and just as fast, with steadier footing than her. She’d never make it to the stream in time.

You had to be kidding him. Tears. As if he didn't feel like a monster already, she looked absolutely pitiful. Hopes rose slightly as he heard what he assumed to be Blue's light body approaching behind him with Jesters heavier paw prints a little further back. Chasing the pup maybe but how did it get away in the first place. Already the rush had died down and Kane's senses were back to 'normal' for him. He didn't bother himself with juvenile canine, instead he moved to intercept Jester who arrived soon afterwards. He was aware that Kitty had scooped up her friend, companion or pet. The exact details weren't know, except obviously Blue was precious to her. He concerns were ultimately for his friend. If Rhys got badly wounded and these people didn't turn out to be threats then that would be stupid beyond belief and Kane would have failed.

Quickly Kane slipped the satchel from his back, he probably shouldn't have gone off after the younger one. She expected Rhys to be able to handle himself. Then again he didn't expect Via to deliberately try and stop him. He looped the bag containing what few resources they had around Jester's neck, securing it so it wouldn't fall off. It was obvious enough to Tyron what had happened, since he was aware of the how the situation developing as he was chasing his target. He crouched and lent in close to Jester, whispering.

"Get this back to Rhys. I'll be there as soon as I can."

He then gave Jester a light push back, encouraging the hyena on its way. He couldn't quite trust Via right now and by extension, Jester. They were acting up and he had a good suspicion as to way, specially with the way Kathryn cherished the wolf pup. With Jester loping off, back to Rhys with a little concerned whine, Kane stood from his crouch and turned his attention to the girl. She was on her feet now, unsteady, with the pup nestled safely in here arms. She was trying to act tough, although she probably knew the act wasn't fooling anyone. To her credit she sounded like she could back up her words with pure spite. What she said was somewhat surprising. It didn't surprise him that the girl would sell herself out to save her sister, he would do the same. What stunned him for a moment It was the admission that she was just like him and this time he was the uncaring predator.

He'd had his suspicions but he still didn't expect them to be realized. Kitty didn't seem to properly realize his pause, perhaps thinking of something else of not seeing a human reaction in this hunter. his shoulders slumped slightly but he managed a smirk at the irony of it all. Tyron dropped the aggressive image. Relaxing, if only a bit.

"So you're admitting that you are one? That probably wouldn't protect your sister. Take it from me, some Hunters don't see the difference between Wargs and those that shelter them."

The grin broke into a short laugh. So he was right. After six years they run into their own kind and just get into a fight. Maybe he ha jinxed that whole thing or maybe he was Rhys just had bad luck in those sorts of things.

"Firstly, Jester isn't a dog. He's a hyena and he isn't mine. Secondly, I don't need to call him off anything. He probably realized before we did. I'm sorry I didn't notice sooner. You're safe now, I would never knowingly hurt my own kind. Can we talk more on the way back?"

Ralie

Ralie was still paralyzed, although, she wasn't exactly sure how much time had passed. The guy who had attacked her was laying beside her, his face pale and a hand glued to his injured side. She didn't think that she had actually injured him all that badly, but his facial expression when he had been treating the wound proved otherwise. He had his eyes closed and was taking deep breaths. Okay, so she hadn't punctured his lungs... although she would have known if she had. In her experience hunting, as soon as a lung was punctured the animal would cough up foamy blood, this guy wasn't coughing up anything, it was just a flesh wound that was bleeding... a lot.
But why did she feel bad? He had attacked her, not the other way around. He was the Hunter... but... if had been a Hunter, she would be dead. He had the upper hand, he could have killed her in an instant, but instead, he made it so she couldn't move. This made absolutely no sense. Unless... unless this feeling of being paralyzed was permanent... It couldn't be... how was she supposed to protect Kitty and Blue. What kind of asshole only paralyzed his victims instead of killing them?
"Hey... you!" she waited until he turned his head and he opened one of his eyes lazily, he didn't say anything, just stared, waiting for her to say more. "Is... Is what you did permanent?" she asked him, and he stared, as if trying to understand what she had asked, and then he smiled, rolled his eyes and hit himself in the forehead with his free hand. He opened his mouth to say something, but then his hyena ran to his side, a bag around it's neck. The guy turned his attention to the animal, and smiled in relief, but he struggled to sit up. She's not sure he would have been able too, if the hyena hadn't gently wrapped his mouth around the guy's shoulder and helped pull him up. She had expected bite marks, but none were there.
What kind of person had that strong of a bond with an animal... then the answer hit her like a ton of incredibly obvious bricks. The hyena, that bird, they were companions to these two... and the people who had attacked her and her sister... "You're Wargs."

Rhys

Rhys concentrated on breathing. In, out, in, out, the longer he could keep himself breathing and awake, was the longer he could keep pressure on the wound, therefore, the more he concentrated, the longer he would stay alive. He hadn't been this seriously wounded since he was fourteen, and had been stoned by his community back in the savanna lands of the Prairies. His concentration was broken by something, "Hey... you!" Ugh, this Taralie girl was a talker, and he didn't want to acknowledge her, assuming she was going to yell more obscenities. Yet, he responded, slowly turning his head and opening one eye. In his weakened state, he was less able to close his mind, and a few bits of information leaked through before he shut the tap off all the way.

Lost, scared, sister, Kitty, Blue. Protect them. Failed. Paralyzed.

For a possible Hunter, this girl was very devoted to her sister and dog. What the hell was she protecting them from... well, other than Kane and himself. Her voice pulled him out of his head again, "Is... Is what you did permanent?". Finally he picked up on what his power hadn't told him. He rolled his eyes and smacked himself in the forehead. This girl was no Hunter. Hunter's knew the human body, they would know they weren't permanently paralyzed. They wouldn't even talk to him, they would wait until they could function again and kill him. Shit... and her sister and the wolf pup. He prayed Kane hadn't seriously injured the girl, because that meant... well that would mean they killed one of their own.
He was going to respond to Taralie, but he before he could, he heard the familiar sound of Jester running. As soon as the hyena ran to his side, he saw the bag around his neck and smiled in relief. Jester had to help him sit up, but he got the bag and started rummaging through it, pulling out all the supplies that he needed. Then the Taralie girl whispered, "You're Wargs."
Rhys turned his smile onto Taralie, "Very observant. Although, your sister is one... so we're both in the wrong on this one. Also, you should regain feeling very soon."
He turned his attention back to his wound. He started by sterilizing it with a bottle of booze that he had picked up a while ago. He wasn't a drinker, but the alcohol did wonder's for cleaning out flesh wounds. He then went through the incredibly difficult and painful process of trying to tie the vein together. Blood was coming out to fast, and veins were a lot smaller than arteries. He heard something shift in the grass, and the Ralie girl had crawled over to his side, and started dabbing at the blood.
"Forget the blood, can you see what I'm trying to tie together?" she looked up at him and nodded, "I need you to tie it, you're at a better angle and have smaller fingers." she looked uneasily at the daunting task but nodded and within a few seconds she had successfully tied the vein back together and Rhys finished by sewing the wound shut. Taralie pulled gauze out from the bag, and Rhys nodded. She quickly tied it around his chest, protecting the would from outside ailments.
"Thank you. You handled that pretty well."
She shrugged, "My sister's the healer of our pair, I just learn from watching her."
He nodded and they both returned to silence as they waited for Kane and Kitty and Taralie waited for full feeling to return to her legs.

Kitty glanced up as a hyena arrived from the direction Blue had come from. She watched curiously as the man, Kane, interacted with the animal, even going so far as to take his bag off and give it to the creature. All of this happened within a matter of seconds, or Kitty would have taken her chance the second he had looked away and bolted for the stream. Alas, there was no time for escape, and so she was left to wait in silence as the hunter situated the bag and muttered to the animal. She had heard of hunters having pets, to try and fool Wargs into believing that they were one too, but she had never heard of one treating the pet so humanly. Kitty eyed him suspiciously, wondering what he was up to as he whispered something to the hyena that she couldn't hear.

The hyena left with a little whine, after a gentle push from the hunter who stood from his crouch and turned his attention back to her. Finally addressing her, the male turned to face her with... a smirk? Was something funny to him? Anger bubbled inside her and she wished fervently that she had her sister's bow. She would have sank an arrow right into that smug smile of his! At least, she liked to think she would. Kitty had never actually killed anyone before, or even gotten into a real fight. Ralie was always there to protect her, so she had never had reason become violent with anyone. Still, the smile on his face made her want to lash out, but she knew better. He was bigger, and stronger than she was and Blue wasn't big enough yet to really do anything but get himself hurt. Kitty eyed his body language, trying to get a read on his next move. His shoulders were slouched now, probably because he was relaxing because he knew he had her and she wasn't going to be able to escape.

Her eyes glanced beside her, noticing a fairly sharp rock. She'd have to drop Blue and grab it,then throw it, all before he would have time to react. She was just mentally debating her strategy when he began to speak again. "So you're admitting that you are one? That probably wouldn't protect your sister. Take it from me, some Hunters don't see the difference between Wargs and those that shelter them." Kitty eyed him for a moment, trying to gauge if he was being earnest of playing with her. Then he began to grin, and even let out a laugh, his entire posture shifting into one of a comfortable informal meeting between two strangers. It was as if he had ran into her on the street and accidentally spilled his coffee onto her new blouse. Kitty stood awkwardly while he giggled to himself, gaze still shifting between him and the way to the stream. Could it really be...?

"Firstly, Jester isn't a dog. He's a hyena and he isn't mine. Secondly, I don't need to call him off anything. He probably realized before we did. I'm sorry I didn't notice sooner. You're safe now, I would never knowingly hurt my own kind. Can we talk more on the way back?" What do you think, Blue? Is he telling the truth? Kitty looked to the pup in her hands who had stopped growling and was enjoying the comfort of being cradled in her arms. Still unsure if she could trust him, after he was moments before killing her, Kitty eyed him. "I wasn't talking about the hyena," she muttered, accepting that he wasn't a hunter and that she was in no real danger only when she caught sight of the golden bird landing on a branch near them. The creature looked to her with a 'whatcha doin?' cock of it's head, causing her to smile a little. This must be Via. His companion. The one that saved her from his initial attack. She liked Via. Him? Not so much.

"Do you always try to kill everyone you meet, or just when they're two females alone in the woods?" Her question slipped from her mouth, indicating her bitterness towards him for scaring her and chasing her through the forest. Still, she couldn't help but smile a little despite her anger towards him. Another Warg! It was exciting, to say the least. Then her thoughts drifted to Ralie. She would not be happy about this... Nope. Not happy, at all. "I hope she didn't kill your friend," she managed to say, trying to bridge the awkward gap that comes when two people try to kill each other. She headed back towards the camp, which she had made it a fair distance from. Kitty was a little impressed with herself. Maybe she could have taken him on, after all. At least, she liked to think so for pride reasons. She didn't like the idea of being truly helpless if a real hunter ever caught her.

"My name is Kathryn, and the other girl is my sister. Taralie... but if you call me Kathryn, I won't hold back on you like I did back there," she glanced over to him as they walked back towards her camp, offering a shy smile. They both knew he could have killed her, and she wouldn't have had any way to really fight him. "Everyone calls me Kitty.. and this," she indicated the pup still in her arms, "is Blue." She grinned a little, looking to the golden bird of prey that followed them. "And that is Via, and you, are Tryon; but you like to be called Kane. So that's what I'll call you, because I hate my name too. I'm sorry about your family." She stopped walking, placing Blue on the ground and glancing up to the taller not-such-a-stranger-anymore male. "I've never met another Warg before," she confessed, " I'm just a little excited... and I seem to talk a lot when I'm excited.." She waved off the notion, noticing a cut on her hand as she did so. She must have scratched it on some thorns while she was scrambling away from him. She made a mental note to bandage it up when she got back to the camp. No doubt her knees were bleeding, too, from the fall she took earlier. If they weren't, there would surely be bruises.

Kitty started walking again, not knowing what else to say that wouldn't be annoying. A waterfall of questions about him was held back by a thin mental dam. She would have time to ask him later, she hoped, and for now she should be more concerned with her sister's well-being. She didn't want to run back and alarm Kane, but she did fear for her sister. The last time she saw her, she was holding her own, so she could only hope for the best.

Kane eyes narrowed when he heard her muttered comment. He let it slide though. She had every reason to believe what she wanted about him. As of this moment he had probably given a terrible impression. She probably didn't even know he heard that. Kane sent a look up at Via as she settled on a branch. He sigh as she fooled around as if nothing had happened. Damn bird, If she hadn't got in the way they could have figured things out with them rushing through the woods and splitting up. Tyron gently felt the scratch she inflicted on his rough cheek. It was deeper than he first though and a rivulet of dried blood had actually run down to his neck. It wasn't bleeding anymore but Kane would probably give a little scolding. Not to mention she seemed just a little smug.

"We didn't know you were two woman at first. We we're intending to deal with a potential threat. There was nothing to prove you weren't hunters even after we saw you."

Kane did spot her smile and gave a small one back. He could guess that it had something to do with the fact her life was no longer threatened and she found out she wasn't alone in the world. He felt same, he and Rhys had been wandering so long without encountering another of their kind. He was also glad he didn't have to threaten or kill anyone. It didn't sit comfortably with him, he only saw it as necessary to defend himself, Via and Rhys. He didn't know if she had been telling the truth about her sister though. He hadn't seen the older one's companion but that doesn't mean that she wasn't a Warg either. As far as he knew it was passed through genetics.

"Jester wouldn't have come for my help if Rhys was in any danger at the time. You think Blue would willingly abandon you? I would be more concerned about your sister. You do know she has a really foul mouth? I don't think they're fighting right now as far as I can tell and I wouldn't say she is dead either."

Kitty did bring out a smile from him again. Trying to force things into a more comfortable state, he guessed she wanted to be more capable than she was. That was admirable and endearing. He was somewhat surprised at how perceptive she was. It seemed like she knew more about him then the situation actually provided her with. That raised suspicions but not concerns. Perhaps she had capabilities like Rhys. He would figure that out more later. Now was not the time to probe. Instead he set his pace faster, he could smell blood on the air and wanted to get back to his friend as soon as possible.

"You're right there. Kane is my middle name. I prefer it since Tyron is kind of boring. I wouldn't say the same about Kathryn but if that's what you want. My friend is Rhys and the Hyena is Jester. Just don't let size fool you, he is the older one. I'm glad you're excited but It has been seven years and I still half regret it, so please do not bring up my family."

He fell into silence at that, neither of them had any more to talk about. He had become a little more sullen with the last topic. Ancient memories that he really didn't want to bring back. He lived a different life now, he was no longer a child so the weight of the what-if's were even heavier. Instead he picked up his pace, concerned about Rhys and even Kitty's sister Taralie. Although he made sure he didn't outdistance his new acquaintance. He was the one who emerged first into the campsite, heaving with relief to see Rhys's wound dressed and bound. Noting that he and Taralie weren't heading for each other's throats as well. He managed to crack a grin before turning around to wait for Kathyrn to arrive behind him. He joked a little but the concern and relief was clear in his voice.

"One chance in a million and you go and get stabbed but someone who wouldn't even try to kill you in the first place. In six years time when this happens again, try not to get yourself killed right Rhys."

Rhys

Jester had his head in Rhys's lap and he pet his hyena slowly. The silence between him and Taralie wasn't particularly awkward, Rhys just had issues with silence. Unless of course there was a reason, like when he and Kane had been sneaking up on the pair. She was so talkative earlier, why wasn't yapping know? He started chewing on the nails and cuticles of his other hand, he wanted to smoke something, but moving more would jolt his wound and he just didn't feel like dealing with the pain.

Finally, another voice, a familiar one cut through the silence, "One chance in a million and you go and get stabbed but someone who wouldn't even try to kill you in the first place. In six years time when this happens again, try not to get yourself killed right Rhys."

Rhys grinned back at his friend and laughed, "I'll keep that in mind." He stood, slowly, and watched Taralie do the same, except she stumbled a bit before she righted herself without swaying. He approached his friend, Jester close to his side, in case he lost balance. As he got closer he saw a cut in Kane's cheek and he let his power do it's job, not just getting the report on his friend's cut but an all around status report on both Kane and Kitty. After assuring himself that his friend wasn't hurt to badly he tossed the medicine bag to his friend, "It's not too bad, but you'll need stitches if you don't want it to scar badly. Although... I'd say wait for the scar, it'll make you more terrifying to strangers than you already are," he teased his friend with a smirk on his face.

"Now, I'll officially introduce myself. I am Rhys Morreyn, and this is Jester." He bowed a bit, and then almost immediately regretted that decision. He winced as a pain shot up his side, and he slowly lifted is upper body up, shaking his head to mentally dissipate the pain. He returned a smile to his face and looked around at everyone.

"So... what now?"

A part of him just wanted to say goodbye to the girls and then him and Kane return on their merry way, but a bigger part of him wanted to team up. There was power in numbers and that Taralie girl had skills, not everyone could land a blow on him. Although he knew she didn't mean to place it as perfectly as she did. And another Warg, this was amazing, and exciting. He looked around the group and waited for everyone's thoughts. He could've found out with his ability, but he wasn't too fond of using his ability on people, unless, of course, it was used catalogue and take care of injuries.
