Seven subjects delve into the mind of super-genius Bradley Lake, to defeat the demons responsible for his insanity (Needs one more character)

1,251 readers have visited The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake since PeachesNCreme created it.

Introduction

In a Nevada laboratory accessible to the public only by flight due to the heavy guarding of towering iron barricades, a group a researchers toil away to save the maddened mind of Bradley Lake: a super-genius of sorts capable of saving the world from the imminent apocalypse. Fortunately, from his fragmented mind scientists were able to create clones of Bradley each possessing a fraction of his soul, dominated by one emotion, which allows the clones to delve into the β€œWarped Mind of Bradley Lake” to defeat the conflicting figments responsible for his madness.

Image

In this roleplay, you will be playing two versions of a character: first the meek and normal human being in the outside world and the β€œCharacter” they assume in the β€œMentality”. In other words a simulated creation in Bradley’s mind that can possess one super-human power used to defeat the β€œId” β€œEgo” and β€œSuper-Ego” that’s conflicts have caused his insanity. This β€œCharacter” will most often have a totally different outward appearance then the reality version, but doesn’t have to. Bradley’s mind is a fluctuation of many fantasy settings including a β€œForest of Forgotten Dreams” a large office type settings where Bradley’s memories are documented, and a great plain where anything can happen called the β€œImagination”. Moreover, you will be facing real versions of metaphors of the mind such as, Personal Demons, Emotional Barriers, and Figments of the Imagination. (If you are familiar with the game Psychonauts, or the .hack series a lot of this will be similar to that)

[Terminology]

Personal Demons: Throughout your adventure with the six other β€œCharacters” you will frequently encounter the personal demons of Bradley’s mind. Each are silhouetted with red eyes, but most vary in shape and form.

Emotional Barriers: Emotional barriers range from anything to stick fences to large barricades to magical force fields and often randomly appear to block pathways or separate adventurers.

Figments of the Imagination Figments of the Imagination are usually personified in colorful manners and are eccentric creatures that don’t speak. They can be helpful guardians, or mischievous tricksters depending on the mental state of the group.

Supressed Memories Occasionally the adventurer’s may stir a suppressed memory, which will be broadcast through and old time movie projector on the adjacent surface. After it has made it’s course, there will be some effect on the world maybe a disturbance of some sort.

Id (Proper definition, though I will create a personification of the term for you to view) The Id is the part of the mentality that pretty much acts without thinking. It looks to achieve gratification in the instant without thinking of the consequences and is sporadic and unstable. Is the unorganized part of the trio.

Ego (Ditto for the Id) The Ego is the structured part of the mind that comprises the logical portion.

Super-Ego The Super-Ego is the part of a person who aims for perfection, it is the part of our psychological state that controls right and wrong as well as works to achieve social acceptability. Works in contrast to the Id.

[Places]

Will be updated and posted in the places tab as I come up with more.

-The Imagination
A large frontier where literally anything can happen.
-Forest of Lost Dreams
All hopes and dreams of Bradley lake collect here.
-Memo Corp.
Ego works here, organizing the memories created by Bradley Lake
-Subconscious
A large highly developed city that stands as a great trade market, where all unused objects of the mind are tossed, but only almost forgotten for use of the adventurers.

[Positions To Be Filled]

The genders can be mix and match, but I prefer an equal amount of both

Innocence Fragment: (Includes the more heartwarming emotions such as joy and . Highly susceptible to guilt) Reserved by IzumiKatou

Lust Fragment: (Prefers to be seductive and flirty. Finds literally anything attractive. In contrast is highly susceptible to self-consciousness) – Reserved by TheHappyHug

Anger Fragment:(Also includes wrath, but can be more reserved about his or her bitterness. Is frequently gruff. Highly susceptible to happiness) - Reserved by Sneakyrio

Intelligence Fragment: (Always looks at things in a logical manner. Highly susceptible to doing very unintelligent things.) –Reserved by spudjohnson

Worry/Fear Fragment:(Constantly doubts themselves and is worried for the safety of the group more than necessary. However because of this harbors a nurturing demeanor and is apt to display random acts of bravery under dire circumstances) – Reserved by LunaTwilight

Courage Fragment:t (Is very prideful and often takes the role of leader of the group, but when push comes to shove he or she doubts their abilities and succumbs to fear) Reserved by CherrySwirl

Courage and Worry are the yin-and-yang of the subconscious world often negatively and positively charging one another.

Boredom Fragment: (Constantly has a β€œfml” outlook on life and can be a bit of a downer, but when put in a fun situations is incredibly hyper.) – Reserved by PeachesNCreme

Rules
Obviously, Godmoding is a no. Although you possess a super human power you are still subject to harm like a normal human being.
Must be active I expect at least one post every day
Also a minimum of five lines is expected in a post.
Language and romance are both encouraged but not to an explicit extent.
OOC goes in the OOC thread! :D
If you become inactive for more than three days without explanation, I'll replace your character.
Because of over-eagerness to start, spots will only be held for 24 hours.

FAQs

What races are available to play?:

As this takes place in a fantasy setting, you are able to play any race as your β€œCharacter”

What about NPCs:

Larger NPC’s such as the Id, Ego, and the main scientist will be played by me, but henchmen, figments, and personal demons can be controlled by players.

Can a Character die:

No, in the β€œMentality” if your Character is subject to substantial amounts of damage, they will be forced to wake from the projection into the mind.

How do people get into the β€œMentality”:

The main scientist (Yet to be named) will hook each clone up to a machine linked with Bradley Lake’s comatose body, and will delve into a sleep like trance while exploring the mentality.

What do you mean susceptible to certain emotions, shouldn’t our characters be mostly the fragment they are representing?:

Yes, they should. But let’s put it this way, if Anger is mad all the time he or she would get excited over the littlest good news, right? So for a normal person, good weather is nice, but for someone who is angry all the time, it is the greatest thing ever!

Can I be another emotion?
Yes, but if all the positions are filled you will have to wait to see if someone drops

[Character Application]

I expect thorough character applications. This to me will reflect on how you roleplay, and yes. I want pictures. As this is a limited character role-play I will only accept the best! :D

Reality Name:
Character Name: (Does not have to be different from real life name)
Age:
Gender:
Themesong:
Personality:
Reality appearance:
β€œCharacters” appearance:
Super-Human Power: (Often associated with the emotion you personify but doesn’t have to)
Equipment: Only applicable to your β€œCharacter”
History is optional, I don’t require it. But if you’d like to you can have one.

Blaise and Bradley

In a human sized capsule on an abandoned Nevada research facility; the emerald optics of Bradley Lake flickered open for the third time in a month to observe through green tinted liquid a group of unenthusiastic scientists gathered haphazardously in a lab. Though none of them seemed to bat an eye at the occurrence. Of the scientists was a Blaise Fermi, director of research, sipping casually on a mug of heated coffee to chase away a sleepless night. Bradley had at first not realized his position but after examining the inserts into his skin, as he had done every other time, he panicked, as he had done every other time. Rough and callused hands slid along the glass, slamming against it until he caught the undevoted attention of the chemists who gave no more consideration to him than they would a passing breeze.

β€œHe’s awake again,” said one.

β€œJust let him wear himself out,” responded another.

The words were distorted through the dense glass, but were no more shocking to the intellect than they would be if they were clear. How had he, a renowned scientist, become a lab rat. Everything was twisted in a hopeless haze. Furious at their neglect, he clawed at the tubes from his skin ripping them from their points of attachment, his heart elevating to dangerous rate as he struggled for air. This action, unlike the first had provoked an enthusiasm from the various researchers as a blood-curdling alarm rang throughout the walls of building, β€œGod, they’ve done it again!” hissed one as he scrambled to empty the chamber.

The glass slid down, and a nude Bradley with it. He fondled tiles on the floor, numb legs providing no support. As scientists rushed to help, they were just as easily forced away by adrenaline powered shoves. Unknown to the prodigy, inside his head three psychological metaphors were waging war against one another. And consequently, in his reality, he was stricken with madness, β€œGod!” he roared, slamming his clenched fists into the ground to rival the incessant bickering. Not many people were capable of hearing either the Id, Ego, or Super-Ego. But not many people used more than fifty percent of their brain.
I
nside Bradley collected bits of the conversation, β€œOh, are you breaking already?” echoed a female voice, β€œI can’t wait to see him crack, it will be incredible.”

β€œIncompetent human, there is no use for such ineffective creatures. You are garbage.”

β€œStop it!” Bradley demanded, gripping the hair at his temples.

Blaise, who had remained otherwise silent and contemplative made a powerful demand, β€œGather the fragments of his sanity. I don’t think he can take it anymore,” he then made an advance to the helpless creature, now writhing like a rat in seizure placing two hands on either side of Bradley’s head and speaking inaudible instructions to him just before stabbing a syringe into his jugular. Moments later the experiment lay almost lifeless in the scientists arms, β€œThat’s a good boy.”

Serena

Serena lay on hollow tile in the center of a hallway, her appendages spread like a bid taking flight. Stretching her fingers to the farthest avail, she grunted in an unsatisfied demeanor. Unless she was exploring the far corners of the subconscious life was unbearably boring, and offered nothing for her except the observation her sleeping originator. She found it fascinating to be the spawn of such an uninteresting specimen, and therefore got ironic entertainment from it.

β€œUgh!” she grimaced before flinging herself around on the floor, rolling one way then another like a child winding themselves up in a blanket. No sooner than had she nearly crashed into a wall when she heard the alarms sound in the keeping chamber. She propped herself to a twisted sitting position. Oh, how she would have liked to observe a conscious Bradley, but of course Father would disallow it.

After finding no enjoyment from her endeavors she headed down the hallway, boots echoing on hollow floors. Perhaps she’d find someone to distract herself from such annoyances.

#, as written by ZenMon
Jason sat cross-legged in his private room. The room, like the stereotypical room of a genius, there were papers strewn about the floor, books over every surface, and other forms of disarray and mess. The numerous bookshelves along the walls contained textbooks of almost every subject of medical nature. Books on human anatomy, psychology, and various other textbooks were sitting in piles around Jason. Papers with crude diagrams of people were all around him. Even the walls had diagrams, formulae, and random scribblings were all over the walls. Father never did like his writings, but he didn't really care. It was for the greater good. In Jason's mind anyway. Currently, Jason was reading an obscure medical dictionary about pressure points, pain receptors, and other ways of torture. The book was in his left hand, a pen in his right. He drew absentmindedly on a piece of paper. If you looked close enough, the scribbles were tiny pictures of bodies with major nerve clusters highlighted.

It was a very long time before Jason finally heard the warning alarms and the tramping of boots. His innate sense of curiosity took over. Pulling the hood and covering his face, Jason snatched his staff from where it leaned next to the door. Within his robes, papers were stuffed into hidden pockets, next to some knives of various lengths and edges. Jason didn't bother closing the door after he left, opting to leave it open. He melted into the crowd, following the flow. Today might be interesting. Let's see what I can do now., he thought.

Markov von Shroder

Markov removed his glasses and rubbed his eyes. He was extremely tired, but he felt himself close to a break through. He spent that last seventy two hours thinking, running formulas and counter formulas, removing, adding, replacing and redoing functions. The theory of Relativity was drifting in a corner of his brain. he knew it was relevant, he just hadn't figured out how yet. E equals MC squared....if I replace matter and light with that of the property of electricity like that of the electrical currents flowing through the neuron--- His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of an alarm. Though he was annoyed by the loss of information that seemed to fall from the front of his brain he knew the alarm. It was the alarm.

The blue-eyed scientist pushed the wheels of his wheel chair taking him to the other side of the room. He pressed a single button on the keyboard and an enormous screen came to life before him. It was his pride and joy, the Society Prediction Mainframe, designed to predict the changes in societyby accessing information through the net from reliable sources and making an educated guess. He lowered the microphone sticking out of it towards his face. "whats the probability that we will save the mind of the renowned genius, Bradley Lake?" the computer recited the question through text on the screen. Then a long line of numbers rolled and changed until the there were only a few characters. In glowing red letters the answer read 5.36%. Markov sighed. Then asked another question, the dreaded question he couldn't resist asking. "What are the chances that we will prevent the apocalypse from occurring?" He waited unblinking until the letters stopped once more and the answer was displayed. To his dismay, bt no surprise it was a bold 0.03%. The scientist removed his glasses once again to rub his eyes then placed them back on. He pulled away from the computer and rolled off into the hallway. "Here goes nothing."

Nevaeh was laying on her stomach with her head resting on her arms. She looked up at one of the many posters covering her walls. Some popular band known more for their looks then their music stared back at her. She felt restless. She wanted to go out and paint the town red. She knew a dozen people to call. Charley with his dark skin and deep eyes or James with his blonde locks and a six pack that could make any girl drool. Then there was Stacy and Lacy. A music major with mocha skin and soft eyes and the sweet science major with red hair and nice long legs. Each had something that made them attractive, not that she was picky. No she liked anyone with a pulse and she had accepted this about herself a long time ago. What was creepy beyond all measure, was her attraction to Blaise. He could very well be the closest thing she had to a father that and Bradly. Though she had never had that kind of impulse toward him. Perhaps because he was her origin? Something like lusting after yourself... How narcissistic would that be?
But no she couldn't call any of the people she wanted to. Why? Because she was on lock down. Yes daddy grounded her. And it just wasn't fair! Just because she didn't make in for curfew a few times. And perhaps the disappearing for a few months might have added to it. She had been having fun. Meeting people, flirting, dancing, and laughing. What was really so wrong with a little fun? Apparently it was a major crime.
She started to drift off from boredom when the alarm sounded. She jumped from the suddenness of its screeching. This caused her to fall to the floor with a loud thunk. Her bottom hitting the cold tile and her teal silk sheets falling from the bed and covering her shocked form. She was glad she was alone as she popped her head out. White hair going wild as she thre the sheet across the room and got to her feet in a rush. She was to the door and out into the hallway in seconds. That alarm was trouble and all of them knew exactly what kind of trouble. Father, or perhaps Daddy One, was awake. She didn't know how she could love a man she had never met and only seen a handful of times. But she did love him with all the feeling of a girl for her father.
She had done a few silly things when she was younger. Taken him drawings she had done for him. Always of her and him in front of a house with a big picket fence. She had dreamed that he would wake up and both her daddies would whisk her away and they would live happily forever after. Yeah, right. But now she was an adult and despite the nasty work ahead she didn't want Bradley to wake. She understood he needed to and if anyone wanted to survive he had to. But why make him suffer his insanity? Why make him see what they had done to him in the name of that survival? He deserved his peace. She was content to let the world rot if it meant he could be free. Since when was she that selfless? Perhaps she was still that little girl crying and begging for love. Wanting nothing more then to have both her fathers proud of her.
With this thought she pushed her way forward and toward the common room. They might tell her something there.

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

lol No but she was in Texas a few months back.. I believe 'The House Of Blues' in Dallas. So it was close. Hehe that's fine.. It didn't bother me just hoping it wasn't because you didn't wanna call me a Hag. :P

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Luna: Curse those Muse Bunnies (-Doesn't know what Muse Bunnies are :P-)
Anyway, take your time :D If it's up by morning I'm sure you won't fall behind in reading.
But I really liked your other Characters

Do you live in Europe? And I'm sad I missed it too :P

-Glances at username twice-

Oh my gosh(: I've just always misread it as such. Still going to call you HappyHug though :P

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

PeachesNCreme wrote:HappyHug, I just got your character, and I have to comment on this:
You like Emilie Autumn?? Me too! (:
She's the best

"Locked up to a spinning wheel, she can't recall what it is like to feel. She says this room's going to be my grave..."

lol i LOVE her! I'm kinda upset i missed the Opheliac tour.. but your right she is the best.. Anyway i changed the theme song to "Let the Record Show" and made it all purdy. lol

Oh question.. but why do you call me happyhug? i've been curious.

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

I'm working on my character now and should definitely have it up by morning. For some reason the Muse Bunnies are running slow tonight *pokes furballs with stick*

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

HappyHug, I just got your character, and I have to comment on this:

She's the best

"Locked up to a spinning wheel, she can't recall what it is like to feel. She says this room's going to be my grave..."

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Well, in that case I don't see the harm of posting introductions :P
After all one of the two is a relative so I can just prod them with the pressure stick

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Can't wait to dissect people and stuff :D

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Yep, until the other two submit their characters.

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Yeah, and then me and JayZ can be "connected"!

@peaches: So basically, you're going to post, but you don't want us to yet, right?

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

I'm going to go ahead and post the starter
We won't start until all characters are submitted
But it will be a good way to get into the flow of things.(:

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Hey JayZero, you could always do the worry fragment. When push comes to shove the character is supposed to do really brave things and stuff like that, like an underdog hero.

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Okay HappyHug, I'll reserve the spot for you. And yep Jay, the position of courage is filled. =(
Anyway, I've jotted down the starter so should be able to start once Innocence submits and we get the final (2? I think) Characters

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

I was thinking of going for the lust fragment.. I'll start working on it now.

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

character submitted. It lookes like the website didn't recognize the characters in the charry name. Should I redo it?

Hey, Jay Z~ looks like we're going for the same fragment. lol

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Thanks!

I was going to go with the obvious macho rage guy with the scary character. But, felt it was better to be a pissed off little kid with a demon side.

That way, he can still be cute even when he's angry. And makes you feel bad for him when his only friend is a vegetable. Figuratively speaking of course.

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

:3 I love the radical you went to
Such an awesome charry

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Sent him in. You said there should be a contrast between reality and mentality, though I went a little towards the extreme.

Re: [OOC] The Warped Mind of Bradley Lake

Okay, I can't resist. lol I want to reserve Courage Fragment. My character will be up in probably a half an hour. ^^
