a character in “The Way of Water”, originally authored by ReaperGirl4, as played by Rae

Description

:: Puppet Master ::
Your Role-player Name :: ReaperGirl4
Your View On Role-playing :: It’s a fantastic creative outlet. I’ve loved writing my whole life and once my friend introduced me to roleplaying, well, how could I resist? It’s awesome!
Your Idea of Character Development :: I believe that a character should develop based on who they are to begin with. Throughout the roleplay, they should change both according to who they are and who they’re around. They should change their outlooks based on what’s going on inside and outside, so to speak.
Your Estimate on Time Commitment :: I can post at least once every day to every two days.
:: Puppet Basics ::

Image
Lien Asano
Image
Nick Name :: Liu
Age :: 16-going-on-17
Face Claim :: Ueto Aya
Nation :: Fire
Bender :: Yes
:: Puppet Appearance ::

Height :: 5’ 8”
Weight :: 143
Eyes :: Brown
Hair :: Brown, with lighter highlights intertwined within
Physical Description :: Lien’s face is rather stunning. She has large, round chocolate eyes, with luscious dark eyelashes. She believes her eyes are the prettiest aspect of her face. Her lips are full, pink, and rather inviting. They have a certain shine to them. Her nose is slim and delicate, like many of her features. Her higlight-streaked hair is often cut short, as a frame for her face. Her neck is long and slim, leading to her lean body. Lien’s figure is and always has been rather petite, something she despises about herself. Her arms and legs are slim, yet hide some lean muscle within.
Identifying Factors :: She has a burn scar trailing down her back from an accident as a child, but that’s just under the clothes. One can recognize Lien by her signature stance: leaning slightly to the left, her head leaned slightly forward.
:: Puppet Personality ::

Quirks :: Lien, being a naturally violent person, thinks of the ways she could kill a person as a way to calm herself down. Surpirsingly enough, it works.
Personality :: Lien has, ironically, a fiery personality. Her temper is like hellfire. Pity the fool to anger her. Her fury has caused her to make enemies with many a person, and that is not good. However, she disregards the feelings of those she despises or despise her. However, if she thinks they’re worth it, she’ll... take care of the disturbance. For Lien is not a forgiving person, nor does she have much patience. She loves picking and winning fights, which she does often. One does not simply stand up to Lien Asano. She tends to be disdainful as well, deeming many people unworthy of conversing with her or interacting with any way. But don’t get her wrong, she’s not a complete snob. She’s actually pretty easily impressed. She loves a good laugh and, believe it or not, watching the sunset.
Fun Facts :: Lien is left-handed.
Likes :: Sunset, firebending, fighting, training, her sister
Dislikes :: Her grandparents, fradie-cats, rain, mud, annoying people
:: Puppet History ::

Family :: Fire Nation royalty. She lives with her parents, grandparents, and older sister.
History :: Lien always had an easy life, being born into royalty and all. Ever since early childhood, she had a raging temper. Her parents, seeing this, thought it best to keep her within the palace walls as much as possible. This included homeschooling. Despite the fact that her parents say it’s for the best, Lien always wanted to meet new kids, kids like her. The only other person around her age she could talk to was her older sister, Kyoko. Even that wasn’t enough. She wanted to meet new people. After expressing this desire with her parents, they came to a decision. She could go outside the palace for a few hours each day and mingle, but could not go to school there. It was good enough for her. However, sometimes her relationships went sour with others due to her hot temper. Because of this, she tries her best to keep it in check around her friends. She’s making some progress.

Her parents knew from the time that she was a small child that she would become a great firebender, with the proper training of course. So, they hired a professional, the best of the best, to teach her. It was a rather elderly woman named O-lan. She had discipline that matched Lien’s tempermental disposition perfectly. In short, she was one of the few people to earn her respect. O-lan taught her to channel her pent up emotions into her firebending, making it much more powerful and effective. Though she is all but a master herself now, it is still a technique she uses. Now that the Avatar has appeared, she plans to teach to him this method as well. It is, after all, one of the best.

Her face burned with the heat of a flame that she had just barely burned. Lien stumbled bakcwards, almost landing on her rear end. But before she could completely lose her balance, she planted her left foot behind her, solidifying her stance, brought back her fist, and with a powerful yell, she brought her fist forward with considerable force, bringing forth a large, billowing flame from the front of her knuckles. She lost sight of her opponent as the searing fire panned out in front of her line of vision. She allowed her self to relax, albeit slightly, as a bead of perspiration trailed down the side of her face from the intense training the morning had consisted of. The flame dissipated, leaving behind a considerably dark and murky haze that, in turn, evaporated, leaving the air between the opponents clear. Lien’s eyes widened a fraction and her eyebrows shot up in surprise as she beheld the elderly woman standing twenty feet away, dusting off her sleeve as though her attack had been nothing but slightly bothersome.

Lien broke her stance and stomped on the ground, her hands creating little arcs of flame that dissapeared within a moment and she swept them up and down in anger and frustration. “What the hell, Old Woman?!?!” she exclaimed, stomping up to her trainer, who had crossed her arms and wore a disdainful frown. “Do you realize you could have killed me just then? Huh?!?!”

The woman gave a half-amused half-annoyed sniff. “Unfortunately, your highness, that is not true. The worst I could have done was permanently scar your pretty little face. Don’t worry, princess. You’ll live.”

Lien was outraged. “But- but- How did you even dodge that? It was perfect!” To her chagrin, the old woman shook her head.

“If it was perfect, my lady, I wouldn’t have dodged it.” With this, she gave a small laugh and began to walk away, out of the training area. Lien wouldn’t have it.

“But-“

“Your stance was off, your yell was weak, the attack was pathetic overall,” the woman listed off her “flaws” without looking back. Lien promptly disagreed.

“That’s not true! It was perfect…” she trailed off as the old woman disappeared down the hall of the palace. That O-lan Lien growled and kicked at the ground, shooting flames from the tip of her foot. Firebending was a powerful outlet for her anger. For you see, Princess Lien Asano, second born child to Fire Lord Asano, had an extremely short temper and very little patience. It had been so since her early childhood, and so far Lien showed no sign of changing. It might have had something to do with her lack of social interaction as a child. Then again, it might just be the way she was born. Who knows?

Her short hair clung to her delicate face, as it was soaked with perspiration. Although she probably couldn’t anyway, O-lan disagreed with tying one’s hair back during training. During a surprise attack, she’d have no time to put her hair back. O-lan tried to simulate a real battle as much as possible. It definitely helped with Lien’s training. However, it did nothing for her overall attitude.

She left the room from a door opposite the one O-lan had taken. She made her way down the many, many halls of the Royal Palace and employed her memory to make her way to her room. The day after tomorrow, she would be meeting the Avater. The Avatar. Her job was to teach him Firebending. She had no idea how tough it would be, but she tried to convince her self that she was ready.

Lien leaned over the side of the old Imperial warship looking out over the seemingly endless sea. It used to be a warship, anyways. That was so long ago, in the time of the Great War. Now, it was nothing but a relic, an old reminder of past mistakes that the world as a whole had tried so hard to put behind them. It had been so long since the war itself, Lien didn’t even feel much remorse for the events that had taken place. She didn’t even feel a connection with her ruthless ancestor at all. So, she didn’t really care.

A sea breeze blew back her short brown hair as clouds rolled in. Thankfully, they were not storm clouds. Not like it mattered much. She looked up and caught sight of her older sister. She made no move to interact with her, but stood by and observed instead. Her older sister was much prettier. Much more skilled, too, when it came down to non-bending. Lien couldn’t weild a weapon to save her life. However, she was content that they both had their strengths. She was happy that her sister was joining her, too. What she was not happy about, however, was the possible reason. Lien had a gut feeling that Kyo was there to keep her in check. That she did not like and could not handle. Not one bit. However, there was also always the possibility that she could be going to teach the Avatar the ways of the weapon, if he so chose. However, it looked like Kyo was there to stay. Lien couldn’t exactly complain. She was very glad her sister was tagging along. It would be a good experience for the two of them, she knew.

At last, the grand, awe-striking Great Nation came into view. Lien made no change in her expression, though she was filled to the brim with excitement. It was all just a new adventure.

Morning. She was woken up by a servant who’d noticed she was about to oversleep. Thanking her and rushing to get dressed and look presentable, Lien, admittedly, had butterflies in her stomach. It was all so… exciting! She was going to meet and train the Avatar! She just hoped her vicious temper wouldn’t rear its ugly head… too much. It could be useful sometimes. Before she could ponder this, she was rushed into the Great Hall and seated in a particular chair. She was surpised she was there before her sister, but she greeted her enthusiastically upon her arrival. The exchanged greetings and a few jokes, then a hush fell across the room as the Avatar himself entered. Lien honestly had been expecting someone who appeared much more impressive. Oh well. Her adventure begins.

The Avatar was unimpressive indeed, despite the fact he seemed to use air and water bending effortlessly his address to the council as a whole was lacking. It was apparent to Lien that he was unschooled in the ways of court and that was something she would have to remedy, although judging by the waves coming off her older sister she might have to stand in line. The water benders were asked to introduce themselves first and many pleasantries were exchanged. Lien figured this was only natural as they were his own people and as much as she disliked the general populace she too would exchange pleasantries with those of her own nation had she been in the Avatars position. Next were the Air benders, his teacher was told she need not introduce herself and Lien smiled to herself at the way her sister flinched, they were much more alike than either cared to admit. The earth benders were next, and Lien noticed a woman who looked out of place, not so much in the way she dressed but the way she acted walk up with them to stand in front of the Avatar, the young fire bending master mused for a second at whom the woman's identity may be but her thoughts were cut short when it was her turn to introduce herself.

Lien had spent her entire life living within the walls of the fire nations palace and had extremely strict training in the way the courts operated. Like Kyo, the two had spent many hours learning how to bow and speak when in the presence of superiors and although the Avatar looked barely older than the young princess herself he was her superior. Master of all four elements beat out every line of royalty in the universe.

The introductions went as procedure asked, Kyo being the elder of the two introduced herself first and Lien did her best to hold back a smile of satisfaction at her sisters obvious displeasure. Soon enough Kyo stepped back and it was Lien's turn to introduce herself. She stepped forward as courtesy required of her and knelt on one knee, head bowed.
"Welcome to the Great Nation, Avatar, we have awaited your arrival for many years and rejoice in your discovery." Lord but this court speak was monotonous. "I am Lien Asano, youngest daughter of fire lord Asano as sister to Kyoko, my skills in fire bending are superior to most and I hope you will take full advantage of the fact I am here to ask me any questions regarding our fair nation..." Her voice trailed off as the Avatar flicked a piece of paper over to his air bending master. Now that ticked her off, how rude! Completely disrespectful on so many levels. It took a moment to regain her train of thought she was so angry. Finally she finished with "Its a pleasure to have you as a representative of our nation." She stood up and bowed stiffly stepping back to stand with her sister.

With a nod the Avatar said "Thank you for taking the time to come and greet me personally. I give your Lord my greatest respect." Lien let out a small "Ha!" hoping no one heard her remembering at the last moment her teachings. She sat stiffly next to her sister as the Avatar ended the meeting apologizing for being young and stupid. That he most certainly was, stupid at least. He had succeeding and flaring up both of the fire nations princesses tempers... not that that was an especially hard task to accomplish, but he had succeeded none the less. When the ceremonies were over Kyo stood up so fast she nearly knocked her chair over and started striding quickly over to the Avatar. "Go get him sis!" Lien hissed with glee and quickly followed her sisters footsteps up to where the Avatar was seated. As his fire bending teacher she would of course have to introduce herself as such. The young princess noticed none of the other nations approached the Avatar to introduce themselves as his teachers so she supposed the earth nation must still be undecided.

"Saldo was it?" Kyo asked through tight teeth "As I said before my name is Kyoko, it would be my pleasure to train you in the ways of hand to hand and weapon combat should you so desire." Lien was dancing happily inside her head. Her sister was pissed! She could tell by the way Kyo spoke through an almost clenched jaw, at least the sisters had one more thing in common they could discuss later.

"I am Lien, as I introduced myself before although I was afraid you might not have heard me." Lien said piping in before the Avatar had a chance to respond to her sister. "I am the master fire bender of the family, and if it so pleases you I shall be your bending instructor until you reach the level of a master. I have TONS of tricks up my sleeve and I am just anxious to start your training." She plastered a smile to her face and clasped her hands behind her back. She hoped the Avatar wouldn't be able to tell just how gleeful she was about the entire scenario and hand to pinch herself to keep from rocking back and forth on her heels. She like her sister waited eagerly for the Avatars response as Lien couldn't wait to have a long conversation with her sister regarding the training of the Avatar. She mentally said a thank you praise that she had been able to keep her tongue up to this point and follow procedures appropriately. At least Kyo wouldn't be able to report back to their parents that she had lost her temper at her first meeting as an official member of the Avatars council, always a plus in her book. She looked at the Avatar expectantly wondering who he would answer first and just how he would respond to the fact that the younger of the sisters would be the one to train him in fire bending.

"You are to be my fire bending master, excellent. I have an older sister too, she always bested me at almost everything that should possibly could. Except water bending, she's a non-bender....Now, what would be an appropriate schedule for you? I currently need to focus on my mastering of the two remaining elements. I will certainly be willing to work around any and all time restraints that you have in the foreseeable future. Taking in to consideration that we need to work around my Master for Earth Bending. Speaking of which, I don't see him anywhere." Boy the boy sure did know how to speak Lien thought as she silently listened to the Avatar. He has quickly dismissed Kyo giving a noncommittal answer to her offer before turning to Lien herself. It was unnerving that they both had an elder sister, non bender, who bested them at everything. Before Lien had a chance to say anything the Avatar was rushing off, saying something about meeting him later in his office. She frowned at his backside and only as an after thought hollered "sure" after him.

Kyo was already storming out and Lien quickly ran after her sister, her earlier glee completely drained from her and anger beginning to set in. How come her sister hadn't told off the Avatar? She had never been one to bite her tongue before. Lien felt slightly cheated as she would have told the boy off herself had she known her sister wouldn't. She briefly lost sight of Kyo but found her soon enough leaning against the cool outer stone wall. Stopping just short she crossed her arms in front of her and opened her mouth in a haughty attitude about to speak when she was cut off.

"I really don't feel like talking right now sis, especially if your going to lecture me on my behavior, can we meet up for dinner? I need to let out some aggression." Lien snapped her mouth shut wondering how her sister knew what she was going to say when her eyes were closed. She took a moment to gather her thoughts and then sighed letting her arms fall to her sides.

"I'm not going to lecture you, at least not much, I'm just curious why you didn't tear into him! I was going to but held myself back anticipating you would." Lien pouted to herself, anger rising inside of her at an alarming rate. These mood swings of hers could really get old fast. Just thinking of the Avatar and how he spoke to them was enough to get her blood boiling.

"Lien, he is THE AVATAR, he outranks us in every way despite the fact that we are royal blood. He possess every Avatar that has ever lived within his soul. We have to show him the proper respect his title alone grants him no matter how much I may want to smack the stupidity out of him. He is young and has never been around the courts as we have, if anything he needs training in the correct way to address those beneath him. Lien rolled her eyes at her sisters speech and was about to say something hotly in retort but her sister cut her off again saying she had some training to do and would meet her later for dinner. Lien watched her sister leave and bit her tongue angrily. It was the second time today she had been dismissed and she was not happy with it, not happy at all.

She stood next to the now empty wall for a few minutes just staring at the spot where Kyo had stood, letting her anger well up inside. Out of no where she kicked her legs out and let a huge flame fly through the corridor. An angry monk yelled something at her but Lien was too far gone to hear him, she turned towards the wall and let another gust of flame out through her fist, scorching the white marble wall. She didn't feel any better, and turning on her heel she ran to her room in the fire nations wing.

__________

Lien flung herself down on her huge satin bed and let out a scream of frustration into her pillow. She hadn't changed out of her court attire yet, and didn't really care to truth be told. Flopping over onto her back she stared at the empty ceiling above her lost in thought. At some point during the afternoon she turned on her music and listened to an angry playlist full of screaming metal bands. This sort of music, she knew, did nothing to calm her down and riled her up even more. Had she been smart she would have followed her elder sisters example and gone to the training room to release her pent up aggression but she instead decided to let it flood through her and feel her internal flame try to inch its way out.

She turned to her side and saw the time, Kyo should be finished with her training by now, it was mid afternoon and the sun was just beginning to set in the sky. Hopping up and wrenching her closet open, Lien quickly decided on a pair of red silk flats, black leggings, a golden skirt and a black off the left shoulder top. She pulled her hair up into two buns on the top of her head and threw on a dash of lip gloss. Staring at her reflection in the mirror for a couple of minutes and deciding she was satisfied with the look, Lien grabbed her cell phone from its charging station and sent Kyo a text that she was ready for dinner now and would meet her sister at the restaurant. She added as an after thought that they should check out the grounds after they finished eating knowing Kyo wouldn't turn down something that had been ingrained into her for so long.

__________

She sat at the table in silence for a while just staring at Kyo before she burst out with what had been running through her mind the entire afternoon. "I still don't understand why you didn't tear into him." She bit into her steak angrily as though it was the culprit of her misfortunes. "I mean, he was seriously crossing the line. Just ignore the fact that..." Kyo interupted her reminding her of "manners" and Lien brushed her sister off was a "whatever" continuing as if she hadn't been interrupted at all "he didn't pay any attention to what we said and then degraded us with his wishes to father or whatever, he just gave off an air of arrogance! How did anyone like that ever become Avatar!" Lien pushed her plate away from her, so angry she didn't have the appetite to eat anything else and crossed her arms once again pouting, sure here sister would have some long speech to explain why the Avatar acted as he did, and sure enough Kyo didn't disappoint. Thankfully the speech wasn't long and Kyo changed the topic to their family. Lien reluctantly followed her sisters lead and smoothly changed topic. The new course of conversation lasting until the end of the meal.

__________

Once the pair of sisters were outside they began exploring the grounds of The Great Nation. The land was vast and they had a lot to do in order to map out the best possible advantage points. Lien watched her sister wince slightly as they walked and gave internal thanks for her red flats. Why her sister choose to wear a pair of heals at any point in time Lien would never know. She wasn't nearly as angry as she had been earlier and led the way around the palace and into the woods. They must have been walking for a good hour and it was starting to get dark out when Lien and Kyo halted, hearing voices coming from ahead of them. The sisters walked up and caught the point of the conversation between the Avatar and what looked to be an earth bender where Sal said "Man, with a pair of crazy fire bending sisters, an air bender who's always hungry, and an earth bender with questionable sanity. I'd say my days are numbered." Lien bit her tongue in order to keep from interrupting and could feel the tension in Kyo as she did undoubtedly the same.

Lien glanced around herself at her surroundings and saw a large mound of earth. Listening further into the conversation she discovered that it was the new grave of Master Xion. The earth bender erected a tree of sorts and words were said in the late master's honor to which Lien and Kyo bowed their heads. "Excuse me," Lien said interrupting the group in front of her"Um, I hope you weren't reffering to us when you said "Crazy fire bending princesses, SALLY?" She emphasized the nickname hoping to pick up a similar reaction to the one Andy had received and couldn't help but let out a small giggle. It was obvious from the rumbling in the groups stomachs that they hadn't eaten yet and Lien piped in "My sister and I have already eaten but we would love to converse with all of you as it seems we will be spending a fair amount of time working together, training the avatar and all." She heard her sister hiss behind her and grinned internally, this should be fun.

Lien watched as Sal began some movements with her arms that could only be bending of some sort and watched, puzzled as he shot off into the forest. She was about to head after him but saw the slick ground beneath her and Kyo's feet. Swearing as her sister stumbled forward Lien shot a blast of heat to the ice, clearing it from the ground so kyo would be able to steady herself. Now she was pissed, the other masters had already followed Sal into the woods and Lien heard a clunk as he undoubtedly hit a tree or something of the like. Eyes blazing she took of, following the sounds of voices in front of her. She could hear Kyo behind her and ran faster, wanting to get there before her sister did. She succeeded and let an expression of joy pass over her face at the site of Saldo trapped in the earth. Her fingers had been singing since her earlier blast of hot hair and taking a stance she pointed her finger and shot a small spark right between the Avatars eyes. It wasn't enough to seriously harm him, but it singed his eyebrows quite nicely. Lien let out a gleeful laugh of triumph that was short lived as Kyo was soon behind her scolding her for her actions. Lien tried to defend herself buy Kyo cut her off and the young bending princess stuck out her lower lip in a pout.

"Wow, nice escape Sally. It's time to grow up, play time is over. You have a responsibly the world, and you should see yourself here that you still have a lot to learn. Now you can come peacefully, she paused, glancing evilly down at him,"Or I'll strap you to my glider again."
After another burst of laughs she turned to Andy, "Nice catch, now how's about that dinner? Chasing after Sally here has made me more hungry than before!" Echo chirped in agreement as he tugged a piece of Sal's sleeve off.
"And Sally, when we get back you need to apologize to the fire nations girls for being a pompous boob." She added, glaring him down for a moment, "These are you new Masters, now stop running and let's go before I starve to death"

Lien smiled at Jojo, pompous boob was indeed what the Avatar had been. She hadn't arrived in time to catch whatever Andy had said, but smiled at her as well. With the three of them as his masters Sal really didn't stand a chance unless he changed his attitude. "Seriously Sal, what made you think you could outrun four masters?" Lien asked, honey sweet mockery in her voice as she crouched down next to him, still grinning at his eyebrows. Then Kyo began in on her part of the rant.

"Saldo, that was extremely childish. Jojo is correct, you cannot act that way. As the Avatar it is your duty to show a certain amount of decorum and civility, maturity and respect. None of which you have shown thus far except for that speech you gave only minutes ago. Do you really not know your place in this world? Despite the fact that you rank higher than me, make no mistake you will show me, my sister, and your other masters the respect due to us by our very positions do you understand?"

Lien nodded as her sister spoke and grinned at the anger that seeped into her voice. Kyo tried so hard to regain control of her senses and temper but more often than not she, like Lien, failed to do so. It was especially pleasing, in a twisted sort of way, to Lien how Kyo held her knife at the boy, Avatar or not he would have a hard time avoiding a slice from that monstrosity. Sal said his words of self defense, his apologies, and everything else in response to the four girls interrogation and Lien just stuck her tongue out at him, not impressed by a single word he said. She felt Kyo stiffen next to her and stood up, placing her hand on Kyo's shoulder.

Something was wrong, the air felt heavy. She nodded at her sister when Kyo looked at her and glanced toward everyone else. They could feel it too, the earth and air seemed to vibrate with distress. Kyo turned toward the group and quickly gave commands. "Lien, we need to go, assess the situation, make sure you don't get captured in the process if there are hostile forces about. Grab what you can from your room if you need anything at all. I will do the same. Jojo, Andy, you are welcome to do the same although if you are not in need of anything I would not suggest making the trip. Someone has infiltrated the palace. I will go and see if I can asses the situation, I have had training in information gathering. If you want me to go and gather any of your things now would be the time to say so, you too Sal, although I would suggest staying here and hidden until Lien and I return."

The fire bender nodded in acknowledgment of her elder sister and started to mentally write a list of what they would need. Clothes, supplies, food, if they ended up leaving the island they would need a map and money. She went through her personal items and quickly made a small list of what she would throw into her sack and knew Kyo was doing the same as the sisters stood poised waiting for the responses from the group. "If anyone wants to accompany one of us back to the palace to retrieve your things we would be able to accompany you, but we must move quickly and silently." She added onto her sisters last statement giving them the option of joining the pair to figure out what was going on at the palace. Who could be here, why were the alarms going off? There were representatives from every nation here, a war between one of them would be pointless, so why were the alarms sounding? Lien glanced up at the night sky and mentally thanked the gods that it was mostly overcast with very few stars shining, at least that's what it appeared like through the branches of the trees. It would give them the advantage, having the cover of darkness.

Lien followed her sister through the woods without a second thought and although she made more noise than the former was able to keep up fairly well. Jojo headed off in her glider after a "I'll meet you in my office, Something very important is hidden there, that we need I need to get."

"Any idea where her office is?" Kyo asked over her shoulder.

"Nope." was the only response she was able to get out as she did her best to keep up and quiet at the same time.

"Lien, what do you need? I will get it for you, you should follow Jojo, just in case. I am sure she is extremely talented and could defend herself, she did train the avatar, but the offices are going to be the first place intruders are going to look if they are ransacking something." Kyo was issuing orders again and Lien let out a hiss of annoyance.

"Right, I have a bag in my room near my bed, you know the one, and a pack in my closet, back right corner. If you can only get one take the silk box out of the bag near my bed and put it in the bag from my closet." She kept her sisters tone and volume as she spoke, bending down to catch her breath as they reached the edge of the forest. She could see the Great Nation towering above her in almost pitch black darkness but was able to sense the guards moving around in the shadow.

"Don't worry, I will get them both, Jojo went off in that direction. Go, quickly, no matter what don't get discovered, observe from the shadows like we use to do to mother and father and if anything goes wrong come and find me." Kyo pressed her katana into her little sisters hand. "Just in case." She said and darted between two guards under the cover of night.

Lien held the katana tightly in her hand for a moment as she watched her sister dart away and took a deep breath. Now was the moment, she was on her own and it was her abilities that would get her through whatever was about to happen. She felt tension in the air and her throat felt almost tight. Why weren't the masters bending? She should hear fighting, not silence, and silence was all that greeted her ears. With a deep breath she stored the katana in waistband and ran in the direction Jojo had flown.

She reached the stairs right as Jojo was captured and hid in the shadow of a statue at the bottom. Why wasn't she bending?" Lien wondered watching the struggle and almost moving foreward in blind rage but her sisters words kept her back. 'No matter what don't get discovered, observe from the shadows like we use to do to mother and father and if anything goes wrong come and find me.' Cursing to herself she hung back, nails digging into her skin so tightly she almost made herself bleed. Jojo was being let to the great hall and she knew she had to follow no matter what. Once she reached the hall she climbed into the rafters with little trouble and watched, observing as the council huddled in terror and the blue orb was activated. She tried to flick a flame into existence but was unable to. The orb must be what was hindering their abilities, and it reached to at least the bottom of the stairs, maybe further. Lien knew she should go back for Kyo but found herself frozen watching the scene that unfolded in front of her.

__________

Hours seemed to have passed, but it couldn't have been more than half of one before Kyo was crawling in the rafters next to Lien."Can you bend sis?" Kyo asked, eyes on the orb and roaming the room.

"Nope" Lien said, anger flashing in her eyes.

"That's what I thought." Kyo said, counting the guards in the room. "There are seven, not including the leader. that's four for each of us. You can use that katana can't you? Bending isn't going to help here, hand to hand only."

"I figured as much, I can get by. But the faster we get in and out the better. Should we try to free them all?" Lien asked, an edge to her voice. The prospect of not bending at all in a battle terrified her. She had only ever really relied on bending and the fact that she might not have it in a battle made her want to freeze in fear. Kyo had been the only who had excelled in hand to hand combat. She wanted her sister to hold her hand but knew it was the time to be an adult, and to help defend her sister if she needed it.

"No, just Jojo." Kyo said. "The elders would want the Avatar trained first and foremost and we have no idea how much more Air bending he needs to learn." Lien nodded in acknowledgment. The fact Kyo wanted her to focus on Jojo meant she was going to do something drastic to pull most if not all the attention to her, giving Lien a chance to get Jojo and get out.

"How do you think they did it?" Lien asked wonder almost reaching her voice although her eyes still flashed with anger. Angry she was. How dare these people who looked like they stepped out of a history book attack their nations council and cause war in an otherwise peaceful setting. She wanted to burn them all to a crisp, but as she was unable to bend she would have to momentarily leave the maiming to her elder sister.

"No idea, but remind me to take over security when we get the Great Nation back, they are seriously lacking if we were able to make our way in here." Kyo smiled a small smile that Lien shared with her. "Wait for my signal. Your aim is to get Jojo and make your way back to the edge of the trees where we parted earlier. Our bags are there hidden in the hollow of a tree." Lien nodded in acknowledgment and watched as her sister made her way to the opposite side. Lien moved to position herself over Jojo and her two guards and waited for her sisters signal.

With a whistle she watched as Kyo dropped onto two of the guards and pulled her sword, ready to fight the rest that made their way towards her. The two guards holding Jojo released her and made their way towards Kyo who had disarmed three and was backing toward one of the large glass windows. Lien dropped next to Jojo and quickly moved to untie her. "We have to go now, while Kyo has them distracted. You lead the way and I will follow. Didn't you say there was something in your office you needed?" She crouched, katana at the ready, it would only be a matter of time until the guards looked their way again and when they did she had to be ready for hand to hand combat which would do little good. She watched her sister fighting and hissed in anger, she wished she could to more. That's when the two guards who had held onto Jojo only moments before looked back, saw Lien and let out a shout. "We're screwed" she said, glancing at Jojo and hoping she snapped out of whatever shock she was in and got moving soon.

Lien watched as Jojo did a major martial arts move kicking the leader in the face and yelling at him. She seemed torn for a moment after that until one of the elders told her to go and protect the avatar she agreed and turned to Lien saying "Alright let's go!" Lien nodded her head once and followed Jojo out of the hall. They made their way back to what Lien was assumed was Jojo's office since only the power of an air bender could open it and thankfully the girls air bending powers works. Lien snapped her fingers and saw a flame and relief flooded through her. It was good to know that she was able to use her abilities again and that she wouldn't be so incredibly useless. Once inside the office Jojo closed the door and said "Welcome to my office. We will be safe here, I can't gaurentee anything once we get outside but there is a passage under my desk that will take us out to the courtyard." As the air bender spoke she had made her way to her desk, and brushed everything off it in one swift motion. The top was made of three pieces, like a puzzle. Jojo placed her palms down on the table top and began sliding the pieces until they both heard a click. She passed the the side of her desk and opened a door that was now unlocked, reaching in she lifted a lever and twisted. The desk slid away from her as a staircase was revealed, leading under the building. "Grab as many scrolls as you can along the way," she said, tossing an empty bag to Lien, "You'll see the exit, just keep moving." Lien nodded her head again once as a sign she understood and clutching the bag to her started down the passageway.

She could hear Jojo behind her and a click as the door closed behind them. She started stuffing scrolls into the bag left and right and said just loud enough for Jojo to hear, "once we get outside follow me, my sister stashed some of our belongings in a tree and we have to grab those before we head back to Andy and Sal." Soon enough she reached the end of the tunnel, the bag bulging with scrolls and her shoulder weighted down by the bulk. With the scrolls and the bags they were going to have a hard time running quickly to make the escape, especially since Lien knew her sister would have a bag full of silver and other metal weapons. She grimaced to herself as she thought of the weight that would be associated with it but quickly pushed those thoughts aside. She paused at the exit, glancing around them to get their bearings and an idea of the surroundings. There were a couple of guards searching, they would have to take them out. She snapped her fingers to make sure her bending still worked and to her relief it did. Shifting the weight of the bag to her opposite shoulder she scanned the trees and realized they were right where they wanted to be, the tree her sister mentioned was straight ahead of them, down a winding trail. "Alright Jojo, on the count of three I am going to run out, take out as many of the guards as I can and head down that path. Opposite a fountain there will be a large tree with a hollow, that's where we want to be." She waited for Jojo to acknowledge and then said "Alright, one, two..... three!" and pushed the door open running full speed.

A guard to the right of her was the first opponent. Lien dropped the bag of scrolls and shot a burst of flame onto the mans face, he hit the ground writhing in pain and the young princess picked up the scrolls and continued running. She reached the tree line with only a little bit of struggle from the other guards and quickly made her way down the path. She found the tree in no time and grasped the bags out, strapping them to her body. She left one for Jojo to carry and sat with her back against the tree for a moment. They had to get out of there fast. The fact that Kyo wasn't there yet didn't sit well with Lien and she wanted to cry. She knew her sister could take care of herself but the thought of her being cornered by all the guards made her stomach twist. Maybe she should have stayed with Kyo after all. In the distance through the trees Lien herd a shattering of glass and shouts. She straightened up as much as she could, straining her ears to listen when Echo landed on Jojo and let out a soft sound. She must have been sent by the others to lead them back to wherever they had moved. She couldn't imagine they had stayed put because of the danger that was associated with staying stationary for too long.

Kyo walked through the trees staggering slightly and Lien let out a gasp. Her sister was covered in sweat, little cuts and smudges of blood. "Sorry I'm late," Kyo said with a wry grin. She walked over to lien and removed her bags from her sisters shoulders placing them on her own. "C'mon we have to keep moving. We can't stay here they will be on us at any moment."

Lien looked at her sister carefully and said "What did you do to get all torn up?" it looked like there was something in some of the cuts but Kyo just shrugged her shoulders.

"Lets just say were going to have to replace that grand window in the great hall." She gave Jojo a smile and said "I really wish I had the ability to bend air, it might have saved my fall, if only a little." With that Lien watched as her sister started to make her way forward, she was limping a little but knowing what her sister would do if she tried to help at all she only sighed.

"After you Jojo," Lien said indicating the path in front of them "I hope Echo knows how to get back." She waited for Jojo to start on her way and with one quick final glance around followed the other two.

Lien followed her sister out of the trees and jumped quickly onto the boat. She watched as the healing took place and muttered a small thank you as Sal healed her tiny scrapes. It irked her how she needed his help and with how tired she was and slightly hungry and exhausted from all the excitement that had taken place she was in a foul mood indeed. How dare foreigners take over the great nation! Now that she had the time to think and stew she grew angrier and angrier. She noticed Kyo dropping off and poked her shoulder hard, but it had little effect on her elder sister. She was soon out like a light, twitching here and there in her sleep.

"Not to be a spoil sport, but where the hell are we going next? I vote The Water Tribes." Sal said speaking up first out of everyone in the group.

"Your joking right?" Lien said, standing up and walking over to him. "How dense are you? That would be the first place they expect us to go and your "safety" needs to be our one priority." She gave him a little jab in the arm and then walked and sat back by her sister. She had a lot of built up aggression that needed to be worked out of her system soon.

"I guess we won't be going to lunch then huh?" Jojo said after a long growl from her stomach. Lien just looked at her and rolled her eyes.

"Guys, at the moment I'm not entirely sure where we are. I know that we the docks are behind us and I think that they are facing the direction of the Earth Nation. Do you guys have any idea's of where we want to go? All I know is that our main priority is keeping Sal safe. But we also need to be weary of the fact that I don't know how long it will take us to travel to wherever we are going and we need to think about food, water and fuel." Andy said before turning away after giving her input. She wasn't gone long but in the time she was Kyo woke up from her nap with a start. Right as Andy returned and said "Have we come to a conclusion guys? If so I'll start the boat and we can get on our way. Oh and if someone would care to be my navigator that would be fabulous."

"Lien, whats going on?" Kyo asked with a slightly groggy yet alert voice.

"You dosed off, some leader for our country your going to be" Lien responded snarly she couldn't belive her sister had just went to sleep and left her to deal with the problems at hand.

"Look, I don't have time for snide comments right now, tell me what happened!" Kyo said drawing herself up as much as she could.

"Fine, Jojo still hasn't had a meal and she looks like she is going to wither away at any moment. Ok, that was an exaggeration but the air bender is very hungry. Andy put nuts on the table but that hardly qualifies for a meal. Sal healed you sped the boat up a bit with some fancy bending and then voted we all go to the water tribes, which is of course a stupid Idea I shot down right away, since he is a water bender that will be the first place they go to look for him and as the elders said, his safety is the number one priority while we are training. I voted for the fire nation and Andy has said that the boat seems to be heading for the earth nation and she just came back in after leaving for a bit to ask us if we had decided where we wanted to go. Now your all caught up, happy sis?" Lien said with a sneer. If her sister was going to be bossy Lien was going to snotty. It was just the way the two of them worked.

"Both the fire nation and water nation are out of the question as far as I am concerned. The water nation is a no for all the reasons my sister said and going there would only put your family in more danger Sal. We have to assume we have a traitor of some sort working with the invaders otherwise how would they have been able to breach all the security and trap the elders? The fire nation is out of the question simply because of its sheer size and when they go to the water nation and find no trace of the avatar they will most likely assume next that we would go to the fire nation since two of us are natives of there and not only natives but royalty. They may assume that we travel to the fire nation simply for the security that would be offered to us as royalty. Forget about the fact that the nation is so miniscule in size they will have the entire island searched after two days. By that logic the air nation would be out as well, there would be no way to disguise ourselves and Jojo being so famous among her kind we would just end up standing out like a sore thumb. I think the best course of action would be going to the earth nation. It is the largest of all the nations, so it will be easiest for us to blend into the surroundings and hide, Andy was never officially labeled as the avatars earth bending master so the intruders may not even know of her existence and she will best be able to get us food and shelter being as unknown as she is. I think our best chance of survival rests with going to the earth nation and figuring out the rest of the plan once we get there, have had some good nights sleep and a good solid meal." Kyo said the last part almost to herself and Lien scoffed. Of course after passing out her sister would immediately jump up to take control of the situation. Lien crossed her arms and scowled up at her elder sister.

"Andy, would you mind housing and feeding us? We can of course help you with the cost, i can only speak for my sister and I but we would more than be able to pay back whatever you needed from us." Kyo was speaking to Andy now, Lien watched as the two exchanged a silent conversation over payment and then walked to a different part of the ship.

She assumed her sister had agreed to be navigator for the earth bender and Lien sat sulking in her seat. She was not pleased at all. The young fire-bender had been hoping to return to her own home. She had never been a fan of the earth nation and didn't want to spend who knew how much time there now. She stood up and then circled the room a couple of times before she remembered she had a couple of granola bars in her bag. She grabbed them out and placed them next to the small bowl of nuts on the table. "Hey Jojo, it's not a meal but its the best we got until we get to where we are going. Sorry." Lien said softening for just a moment before turning and staring out at the vast ocean and noticing black storm clouds heading there way. "You have got to be kidding me." She said under her breath as she watched lightning flash in the distance.
