Impression of Sniff: Ransier had been visiting his father one day at the age of sixteen when he stumbled upon a clutch of eggs buried in the sand. Knowing the protocol for any citizen who found fire lizard clutches, Ransier attempted to report the find to the appropriate officials...but not before one of the eggs had already hatched. Before he knew what was happening, a Brown Fire lizard had already hatched before his very eyes. Having already failed his first impression attempt Ransier felt a pang of fear shoot through him. The newborn Fire lizard seemed to have picked up on this as it sniffed it's snout at him curiously. But sure enough, the newborn had recognized Raniser's strength of spirit and decided to trust in him. Ransier named the Lizard Sniff, after the gesture that had connected the two of them. And they have been partners ever since.
Personality: Ransier has always been pushing himself since a young age. Dissatisfied with his family's lot in life, he's always aspired to somehow make a name for his family and himself. His father is a simple fisherman in the Hold and his mother is a seamstress in the Weyr, the division of his parents has had some effect on him even as a child. Despite it being entirely normal to have almost no connection to parents after birth, Ransier didn't exactly feel comfortable with it. So he decided to maintain contact with his mother and father, learning what he could from them as he grew older. His ultimate goal is to help his family, especially his younger sister Jusiran.
History: Ransier had trouble finding a path for himself in his early age. He lived and grew in the Weyr's Creche peaceably. Making some friends here and there, and learning what he had to. At the age of twelve Ransier stood for Impression, and thus his dissatisfaction with his life grew further. He formed no bond with any dragon of the clutch. He was then foster'd not under a Rider, but a man named Garieun, a well known Runner for a large number of Riders in the Weyr. Garieun taught Ransier, who absorbed the information hungrily. If he was not to be a Rider, then perhaps this was the next best thing.
One day, Ransier begged Garieun to tell him of his blood parents. Garieun finally agreed after some bargaining and gave the boy everything he wanted to know. Soon Ransier sought out his Mother and Father and spoke with them, wanting to learn more about them. His dissatisfaction grew further. He was the son of a seamstress and a fisherman? It felt...wrong. But he was not ashamed, and instead he promised to make them proud of him one day. He learned from his parents that he had a younger sister and at the age of 14, Ransier finally met his 10 year old little sister Jusiran. He has looked after her since.
When he was 16, Ransier began to work as a Runner for some of the lower ranking Riders. His first assignment took him to the Northern Continent where he camped, explored, and learned as much as he could before returning. Upon his return however, he learned little Jusiran, now 12, has also failed her Impression. His dissatisfaction grew further.
Not wanting his little sister to become some low cave cleaner or the means of some Rider's stress relief, Ransier thought frantically of how he could help her to have a better life. I was then he remembered a old Creche friend, Tariel, who's mother was well known master healer, Ariel. Quickly Ransier brought Jusiran to the woman and beseeched the healer to take his sister under her wing as both her foster parent and teacher. In return, he would gather anything she asked of him while he was running messages. Thankfully, Ariel agreed, and Ransier, was greatly relieved. Maybe, just maybe this was the first step towards forging a better life for he and his family.
It's been three turns since then, and Ransier has worked hard on his runs. Gathering not just herbs and plants for Master Healer Ariel and even a few other healers who saw his use, but a reputation with the riders as a dependable, and trustworthy Runner.
