Jena - Jena is the type of girl that when not working or doing any hero stuff, will watch make-up tutorials and fashion blogs, even to the dismay of Adrian, though he does get his payback when he plays video games. Due to this, she is very knowledgeable on what's in, but as well as what would make her stand out. Most outfits she loves pairing with a denim jacket, and in the summer is almost always seen in a sort of sundress when "off duty." The color palette she usually goes for is always complementing each other and rarely clashes, even sometimes making sure a tube top she is wearing under another layer matches her socks. Jena likes to try to stand out in a crowd and likes turning a head or two.

Adrian - Unlike Jena, he doesn't stay up to date with what is in or what is out, and tends to wear whatever is comfortable for him. He just likes wearing a beanie with t-shirt and jeans and grab a hoodie on the way out, and when it's cold outside all you have to do is add a jacket, not that hard. Also due to him constantly wearing beanies his hair isn't often styled and either slicked to the side or just messy enough to where he doesn't look like a bum. Adrian doesn't like being the center of attention and tries to mostly blend in, sticking with neutral and dark colors.

Jena - 5'3"/ 116 lbs. || Adrian - 6'0" / 158 lbs.

Jena - Apperance is a very important thing to Jena and something she prides herself on, with this she can take hours to get ready in the morning or to just decide what to wear if she's in a specific mood. She loves doing her eye make-up the most and won't mind being a little late to make sure her nails look on point with the rest of her outfit. Along with wearing what outfits are in season, she will spend a lot of time at the gym to make sure she "keeps her figure" as she would say, and actually is stronger than most people would think looking at how small she is. Jena is also known to change her hair style often, but not the color, as she tends to stick to a lighter brown with some blonde highlights to add a bit of flair.

Though Jena doesn't have any scars and tries to try to keep it that way, she does have a few tattoos across her body. She has a flame on her ankle, an infinity tattoo with the gemini symbol in behind her ear it, and lastly she has the words "The One" on left forearm.

Adrian - Adrian just like's blending in, so he doesn't do much to make himself look presentable unless the situation would call upon it, so most the time he will get ready first and then relax while Jena does her thing, occasionally throwing in a smart remark to push her buttons. He keeps his hair the same and usually goes to whatever Supercuts or Great Clips and tells them to just trim it a bit whenever he feels like it.

Adrian doesn't midn scars as he's got a couple of them over the years of jsut being an idiot and fooling around, his most known scar is a claw mark across his his chest from facing a half-tiger, half-human villain, along with smaller ones across his body. But when it comes to tattoos he only has one, and it's his matching tattoo he has with Jena on their left forearm, his saying "The Only."

Jena - Jena's personality is not that hard to understand and can be told to be very stereotypical. She is the optimistic and goofy half of Gemini and will always be wearing a smile wherever she goes, though she knows when to calm it down in more serious scenarios, but most of the time Adrian will be there for those. With her having known Adrian for most of her life and now being in each other's lives 24/7, she has learn to deal with sarcastic and sometimes annoying people as he tends to push her buttons often, this has helped her with interactions with people in their social circle. One thing though that Jena doesn't like about herself and has always been trying to work on is how emotional she is. This is both how a death will effect her, but as well as how easily she can be ticked off which will cause her to sometimes have tunnel vision and go into situations reactively, no matter what anyone, including Adrian will say. Even though she is in a "relationship" with someone she will often flirt with people around her, mostly females to try to respect Adrian's wishes. She does this to boost her ego as well as see their reactions, often even playing chicken with a few people before either they back down, Adrian reels her in, or, well, going too far.

Adrian - Often known as the level-headed of the two, he has more of a grasp on his emotions and what is going on around him, often known as a realist and not letting most things bother him. Outside of that, he can be as goofy as Jena as times, and even more sarcastic of the two, enjoying throwing our sarcastic remarks and getting on peoples nerves, though he will stop before things get too heated and will apologize afterwards. With this he will spend most of his time annoying Jena as hearing her cute sigh or seeing her get aggrevated in reflections makes him laugh and love her even more. When it comes to interacting with other heroes, he is often the one in meetings as she can keep a serious undertone better than Jena, though he will voice her opinions respectively, and with villains he believes that they deserve a chance and they might be able to be swayed, while his other half will often believe they can't be redeemed and should be locked up, this leads into Adrian having to be the one who is more trustworthy of others while Jena will often stay secluded and cautious to trust others.

Jena and Adrian had mostly normal childhoods, Adrian growing up with his family in Louisiana where his great grandparents immigrated to from France long ago and Jena growing up in the Northeast, moving around often, not really staying in one place often due to her parent's, mostly her father's job. The two met during high school when their parents moved to New Carriden due to their own reasons. Adrian's mother got a new job offer at a hospital, and Jena's parents wanting to try something new, and thinking they should do so before their daughter started high school and not during. Adrian was a Sophomore when he met the little Freshman Jena and the two hit it off immediately, becoming really good friends and quickly starting a relationship, though how Jena put up with Adrian's antics no one really knows.

The two were the stereotypical couple in high school, spending time together when not with their respective cliques and both graduated, Jena with high honors and an Art Scholarship to a college in Barden, VA. While Adrian wasn't sure what he wanted to do but knew he wanted to spend his time and life with Jena and followed her, working small jobs here and there while did school. The two loved their life, renting a small apartment and all was going great, yeah a few times they were late on rent, but it didn't matter as they had each other, but that all changed on April 17th two years after Adrian had graduated high school and one year after Jena had and during her first year of college.

Adrian and Jena were enjoying themselves during Jena's spring break and wanted to do something besides the stereotypical date nights and snuck into an old abandoned chemical factory, well what they thought was abandoned. As they snuck in and started to climb throughout it and having a good time, they ended up on a catwalk and then surrounded by some sort of goons, the villainous type. As they were running to get away, Adrian tripped over a piece of metal sticking up and almost fell off the catwalk, but Jena was able to drive and catch him, but was starting to slip herself. He begged her to let go and save herself, but she told him she would never, so they both fell. They fell into some sort of chemical mixing duct below them, both of them thinking they were dead.

Adrian woke up first, in the middle of the field outside of the facility and scared for what happened, yelling for Jena. After a few moments he could hear her voice as is next to his ear whispering to his head. No. In his head. The two were freaking out and confused, as Jena was describing exactly what Adrian was seeing as if she was part of him. A second later Adrian's body shifted into Jena's and now Jena could move and see, but could only hear Adrian in her head. It took a second but the two realized they were the same being, share a body they could shift. Though while scared they were both happy to have each other and be alive, sort of. Their other powers began to cultivate much slowly, but first showing themselves at the same time. Jena's came first, as she was upset and venting to Adrian about some students in her class aggrevating and pissing her off. Jena's emotions were starting to get high and the next thing they knew, Jena had summoned flames in her hand when she sat on the couch and in panic set the couch of fire. She was freaking out and asked Adrian to help as she didn't know what to do, and Adrian took over. He quickly ran to the kitchen and threw a pitcher of water on the couch trying to put it out, but the water sort of froze in place in air. Adrian was confused and yelled at the water, trying to push it into the flames, sort of in the moment, and then the water dispersed of the flames, him realizing before Jena that they had more powers beyond them able to shift between their appearances.

The two seeked advice and asylum quickly as they got control of their powers and find the group of heroes who they are with now. At first they were cautious of Adrian's claims of being two people, though they could see his power over water, and Jena didn't want to show herself as she was still scared and confused about herself. After what looked like Adrian just talking to himself out loud like a crazy person did Jena reveal herself and then showed her power over fire. The two were welcomed and taken care of by the heroes and began their lives beyond normal humans.

It's a little complicated if you try to think about it for too long. When the accident happened between Jena and Adrian, they were a couple and Adrian was even thinking of popping the big question in the near future, and with how things have now happened the two still consider themselves a couple, even if there is technically only one of them,

A B I L I T I E S
Gemini is a very special type of supernatural being. They are actual two people that have been confined to one physical body. Jena Wainwright and Adrian Robles. They can only hold one form at a time, and with that form they have that person's powers. Jena with fire and Adrian with water. To shift between their two forms, both minds have to be in agreeance or the one currently in control has to be unconscious. Also as that form they can hear their partner in their thoughts as well as communicate with them in their mind without speaking out loud. When shifting from one form to another, the change is instantaneous and they will be wearing their previous outfit as well. Any scars they acquire while in a form will only stick to that form, but any major injuries will prevent them from changing forms until healed or until recovered from said injury

Jena - Pyrokinesis/Fire Manipulation: Jena's power is pretty simple when she is in her form. She is able to create a flame in her hand spontaneously and control existing flames around her. Now this doesn’t mean she can just endlessly stream out fire from out of nowhere. The bigger the flame and longer she holds it, takes a toll on her physically and can tire her out. Also, flames don’t seem to leave a mark or burn her when she is using her power.

Adrian - Aquakinesis/Water Manipulation: Adrian's power is similar to Jena's but with water. Along with being able to create and control water, he is able to burst pipes that have running water in them. Along with being able to manipulate water, he is also able to control ice, but it is more difficult for him and makes him more fatigued so he will tend not to unless desperate and in need to.

S T R E N G T H S & T A L E N T S
Jena - With her powers, she is able to withstand higher temperatures while in her form. Outside of her powers she is a fantastic artist and makes some money on the side doing commissions for others online. Along with this, growing up her father made sure his little darling would always be safe so she can hold her own in most fights, using her agility and small figure to get around and beat some of the stronger opponents, often liking to spare with others.

Adrian - While Jena disagrees with this, he likes to think he has a second power of being able to blend in and not be noticeable, though he learned this as part of his childhood of wanting to stay out of sight and just skate by. Another talent he enjoys is that he is exceptional at playing the guitar and singing, being able to easily read music and memories the chords and verse, often singing to help Jena fall asleep. During high school he also did gymnastics, he won't tell most people this, but also did some parkour with some friends, it's how he got most of his scars during that time. So with both of these things he can easily escape or chase someone down.

W E A K N E S S E S
Jena - Really bad at swimming and would possibly drown in any in a body of water. Also when wet she is unable to create new flames but can still control existing one's around her. Jena will more likely be driven by emotion in a fight than logic, this tends to get her into more trouble and tougher spots to get out of. She also has a short temper, and often will be talked down by Adrian.

Adrian - Though he won't admit it, Adrian does have some weaknesses. First off, while Jena is very impulsive, Adrian likes having a plan and ins't all the good at "just winging it" or leading on the fly and will often freeze in the moment, luckily Jena has taken over a few times when he freezes on the spot. Also Adrian another thing that might not be considered a weakness but Adrian is very trustworthy and will often wear his heart on his sleeve and be open to people, even though it has burned him a few times in the past.

The other meetings between the heroes and villains went as much as Adrian and Jena expected. Red Witch made more smart remarks about the heroes, mostly Artemis, but besides that there wasn’t much conflict going on and they were able to work out simple missions for them to complete. A few of them breaking into a place to scout it out, following and scouting out persons of interest, and a couple other missions.

Jena, who was the one physically present for Gemini during the meeting, was the one who came up with the idea of teams as they would be safer that way then going on solo missions after their targets. There was a little arguments about who should work with who, but in the end it was decided. Gemini and Aboleth, Paladin and Icarus, Artemis and BludWynd, and Red Witch and Malfyre. Adrian tried to voice his concern about Malfyre with what happened before, but Jena didn’t share what he said, telling him she would be fine.

Out of all the villains, Adrian didn’t mind working with Aboleth, she seemed like one of the more sane ones of the villains living in Barden, and he wasn’t too worry about her mind control powers as, in theory, it would be harder to control him or Jena since there were technically two minds in one body. He let Jena take point on their mission with the villain as he wanted to take some time and relax and wanted Jena to be more leading.

Jena didn’t mind the mission, and having someone who could easily sway someone’s mind would make it much easier and hopefully less conflict. Adrian wanted to take a step back and let her have more control, which she wasn’t exactly against, but joked around with him about how she has to do everything.

It wasn’t long before Gemini approached the meet up spot, arriving right on time as they had discussed, not a minute early or a minute late. They quickly found Aboleth and walked up next to her. “Hey Aboleth, been scouting out the building a little bit?” Jena asked as they peaked around. “And my other half won’t exactly be here for most of this, he’s taking a little bit of a mental health day, so looks like it’ll just be us two girls having a good time.” She said with a smirk.

The building the two would be entering and finding their target didn't seem like it would be too hard to gain entrance to, the front door guarded, but with their masks and outfits Gemini and Aboleth couldn't exactly stroll through the front door. The side entrance had one guy outside, probably armed. The two decided it would be best to just go that way and hopefully get through without too much confrontation. "Well, you're up." Gemini said as she and her current partner snuck to the side.

Piper nodded to Gemini when she walked up beside her. It would be fire today, then. Piper hoped they didn’t run into any trouble in an enclosed area, for her own sake. “Been trying to decide what our best bet will be.” The two quickly discussed the merits and drawbacks of the two visible entrances, though it wasn’t hard to settle on using the side entrance. It’s a single guard, she reassured herself, you can handle one guy. So long as she could get him to lock eyes with her before he realized what was happening. The timing could make or break this.

They weren’t going to make it too close without drawing his attention, and Piper was pretty sure it would be easier to keep the situation under control if Gemini hung back. Even though she was fairly sure that Gemini would give her space, Piper still motioned for her to stay back. She requested maybe a little more room than most people would intuitively give, but she didn’t want to risk the gaurd’s attention being drawn away from her before she had him. She was hoping that, from a bit of a distance away, her mask would blend in with her top or look like a scarf of some kind. That would help keep things calmer, at least. She knew the guard would see her before she was close enough to really get her powers to work, so hopefully he was in a good mood.

“Excuse me,” She was a little too far away, but she decided that it would be better to get his attention than try to be sneaky when hiding was impossible. “I’m sorry, I thought this was the back entrance to the bar my friend is playing at,” Her voice was syrupy sweet, and hopefully made her sound positively brainless (she hated the stereotype, personally, but it did help throw big strong men off their guard). She approached the whole way, ignoring the gentle protests that she was in the wrong place, and then the firmer insistence that she needed to leave immediately. The guard reached for something, and Piper didn’t wait to see what it was. She felt lucky that he didn’t look away from her, or yell. She locked eyes with him and firmly said, “Stop.” He listened, standing still, a blank expression on his face. Piper motioned for Gemini to join her, “My friend and I are going inside. You’re going to let us in,” She paused, her next move was a bit of a gamble. Convincing the guard to let them in the building was easy, getting him to not raise the alarm that they’d been there in the first place was harder, especially since she had no idea what was on the other side of the door. There could be more guards inside, or there could be nothing, but she didn’t have time to dwell on it. “And then you’re going to forget we were ever here.” Hopefully it stuck, but they needed to work fast regardless.

Gemini stopped back when Aboleth held her hand up and motioned her to stay back, nodding in agreeance and staying a bit back. She wasn’t entirely sure how the villain's powers worked exactly, not knowing if she would need space or something so she just agreed and let her do her thing. She stayed far enough back to barely over head the conversation, and quickly got over to her as she was motioned to come forward, and the two slipped in quietly and the door was shut behind them. “Good job girl, must be great for getting into clubs when the line is long.” Jena joked with a smile as the two walked quietly through the hallway.

As the two walked, they took their time peeking around corners and were surprised when there weren't many more guards patrolling around. “The target is some politician that has been pretty anti-mutant at some of her rallies recently, and is thought to have some ties to this organization. Probably funding her budgets in exchange for spreading their view and propaganda against us.” Gemini talked quietly to the villain.

Piper smiled at Gemini, and if she could see it, Gemini would have likely noticed it was mostly just a polite gesture; very little warmth reached her eyes. “It does help me get what I want.” Piper was glad that Gemini was happy to take her time looking around corners and double-checking that halls were clear. Piper had expected… More. More of what, she wasn’t sure, but she’d expected more of it, regardless. As she listened to Gemini’s quick update on the target, something resembling dread formed in the pit of her stomach. This seemed over her head before, but now she felt like she was quickly sinking to the bottom of a lake. “Great.” She mumbled to herself. She was beginning to wonder why she’d agreed to work with the heroes, so far it only seemed that they intended to put her in more danger than she seemed to be in before.

The hallway had been clear when they’d started down it, and by the time they heard the footsteps coming in their direction it was too late to double back, and there was definitely more than one person coming, so Piper wasn’t sure there was much she could do if they even got close enough for her to try.

For a short moment, she felt frozen in place. She felt like she was going to die, here with a person who- while she seemed nice enough- she didn’t know anything about. This wasn’t exactly how she had envisioned her life when she was a child. She wasn’t sure who spotted it first, but she and Gemini were quickly running into some sort of storage closet. It was a tight fit, clearly not meant for two people to hide inside, but that was the last thing on Piper’s mind. She closed her eyes, taking shaky breaths as quietly as she could. You’re fine, she assured herself, you’re fine, you’re fine. The words quickly became a short mantra, and she quickly decided that she had been a little dramatic. Sure, the guards here were armed, but the whole point of Gemini being here was because she could fight. Piper didn’t dare say a word as they waited, listening to hear the footsteps die off down the hallway. She dared to let relief wash over her; that had been close.

Jena noticed Aboleth stop for a second, about to question why when she heard it herself, foot steps. Of course it had been too smooth so far and they hadn’t seen any patrols, so it wasn’t much of a surprise when they finally heard someone in this building. But they were in a long hallway and were too far down the hallway to turn back. Luckily there was a door off to their side, they didn't have time to see exactly where it led before they ducked into it, realizing it was a small storage closet. Gemini wasn’t sure why, but she put a finger over her lips to signify her partner to be quiet, she probably already knew that.

Time seemed to go by slowly as the source of the footsteps went by, two guards who seemed to be armed. Though they were none the wiser of Aboleth and Gemini hiding in the closet meters away from them. The sound of them faded away shortly after, but Gemini waited a little bit to make sure it was clear before slowly opening the door and peaking out. “All clear.” She said in a low whisper to the villain. Jena stepped out first and got out of the way of Aboleth. “Well, that was a close call.” She said as she closed the door to the storage closet after her partner got out, carefully closing the door. “Now back to the task on hand. She should be in one of these rooms down the next hallway on our left.”

Piper could feel relief wash over her when Gemini said it was clear. She looked down the hall and sighed, having already decided that next time, she was going to insist any interrogation targets be brought to her. There was nothing that could be done about that now, though. She shot a sideways glance at Gemini; a part of her wanted to ask if they knew which room, but considering they hadn’t even known what kind of guards to expect, she thought she knew the answer to her question.

A peak around the corner said the next hall was clear, and Piper had to wonder how quickly the guards could complete their rounds. “We can’t just open doors until we find her…” Piper mumbled, more to herself than anything. Though, honestly, this hallway wasn’t particularly full of rooms either. Who is designing these buildings full of empty hallways? It didn’t take long to find the office, though.

A middle aged woman sat inside, and she didn’t look pleased to see them. She looked at Gemini first, and then panicked eyes darted to Piper. That was her chance. “It’s okay,” Piper’s voice was calm, soothing, “No need to raise the alarm, we just want to talk to you. And you are going to answer our questions.”

Luckily for the two of them, they find the correct office relatively quickly. As the entered Aboleth quickly got to work doing her thing. Gemini locked the door and kept an eye out, ready to give a warning to her partner at the first sign of any sort of interruption.

It didn’t take the villain long to get information out of the target, they would resist a little bit and Aboleth would repeat herself, occasionally referencing Gemini as the bad cop and saying if she didn’t answer to her, she’d have to face the literal fire of the hero. It kind of through Jena off a bit, usually her being the good and villains being the bad, but Aboleth didn’t seem like most of villains she met, there was more actual care and empathy behind her words, and she didn’t seem to relish in someone’s suffering or pain.

The villain finally said her last few words to the politician before turning back to Gemini saying she was wrapped up, but before she could respond, alarms started going off in the facility and a voice came over the intercoms talking about intruders. Gemini peaked around Aboleth and saw the target was reaching around the desk, and assumed they had hit a panic button. “Well, this seems like the time to go.” Jena said as she peaked outside the door and already saw some guards to their left, quickly throwing out some fire and creating a wall. “Let’s go!”

As the alarms started blaring, Piper felt her face flush as embarrassment washed over her. She’d asked for the politician to let them go, but of course the moment she turned away, the woman snapped out of it. What a time to fail. Gemini said it was time to go, and Piper agreed. She didn’t want to stick around to see where this was heading.

As Gemini created a fire wall between them and the guards, she and Piper started running through the halls. This was terrible, and Piper hated every minute of it. She could feel the adrenaline rushing through her body, and she felt like she was going to vomit; the mixture of fear and unfamiliar exercise was really not her favorite feeling.

As they rushed through the building, Piper managed to say, ”Sorry,” to Gemini, ”I botched the exit there.”

“Its fine, lets just get out of here!” Jena shouted as the two continued to run. As they turned a corner there was more guards blocking their way. “Hey… could y’all maybe, let us through?” She asked, not expecting them to actually let them through, but they quickly raised their weapons. Gemini reactively threw some small fireballs at the guards hands to make them drop their weapons, and quickly swept two off their feet by kicking under their legs, glad Aboleth was able to take out the other one.

The two nodded to each other as they continued, finally making it out through a side door, different from the one they entered. Gemini didn’t stop once they got outside though, knowing they’d need to get far enough away before stopping to catch their breath. As soon as she knew they were clear Jena looked back ato Aboleth and flashed a smile. “Hey, good job in there. I mean it. You probably don’t care about this, but I was impressed how you handled her. Someone with your sort of powers could have done much worse, but you don’t seem like the type of person. Anyways. Bet to split off and meet up at the next meeting. Good working with you!” She said with a wave before running off down the alleyway and heading home.

Seeing Gemini’s powers up close was incredible, really. Piper never really thought she’d get the chance, and now that she had, she was sure she wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of that. She was glad that the guards had dropped their weapons, though. While she wasn’t much of a fighter, Gemini was taking on two guys at once, so taking care of the other was the least Piper could do. Luckily, he was thrown off by the fireballs. A knee to his stomach, and they at least had enough time to get out the doors.

Piper hated running, and they were doing a lot of it. It seemed like an impossibly long amount of time before they stopped to breathe. Piper raised an eyebrow as Gemini spoke. What could she say to that? That she had done worse in the past? That she wouldn’t do something as stupid as using her powers to kill an influential politician right in front of a hero? It would only make her look bad, and would only make the women into a martyr, make her cause stronger. Piper wasn’t stupid. But she didn’t say any of that, she just nodded, said, ”Good working with you,” and headed on her way. Working with a hero hadn’t been as bad as Piper expected, and now she knew that she could handle it.

Cerys and Aaron’s mission, unsurprisingly, turned out to be a total bust. The guy stopped only to buy flowers, before heading home to his very normal house. But Cerys did, at least, get twenty bucks, a round of drinks, and a few stories about Malfyre out of Aaron for her troubles. She told Aaron the truth, that she was curious about this mysterious figure who was neither hero nor villain, but still seemed to side with the heroes from time to time. She respected that he couldn’t say that much. He needed to protect their identity, and honestly, she would have hoped that he’d do the same if Malfyre started asking about her.

News eventually filtered through that a number of suspects were going to be attending a masquerade ball in the city in a few week’s time. It was a private affair, but Malfyre had managed to get them all on the list. Under pseudonyms, of course. Cerys honestly thought that Persephone Rothschild was far from the worst, especially because it was believable. Some of the others, Malfyre had clearly had fun with their names and had toed the line of believability. But the ball presented one major issue for her. She couldn’t use her bow. She couldn’t conceivably smuggle in any weapons, which meant she’d have to improvise if she came down to it. But her siblings had trained her plenty in hand-to-hand, and she’d been paired up with Gemini. She knew it was probably only a matter of time before she ended up getting stuck with Red Witch, but she just prayed that day never came.

She’d agreed to meet Gemini in there, but couldn’t see them when she arrived. Apparently, they were coming as their male form, but she couldn’t see either of them. So she stuck to the crowds, searching for a semi-familiar face as she took a glass of the free champagne. It was more for appearance than anything else, she didn’t want to cloud her senses. She fished her phone out of her clutch and texted Aaron.

To: Aaron
you here yet? come quick before all the free champagne is gone :P

She felt someone barrel into her, almost knocking off her feet. Her balance was off in the heels, so it took her a millisecond longer than usual to recover. But there was strong hands grasping her as she recovered. She didn’t recognize this man. He was too short and the wrong build to be anyone she was working with, and so she flashed them a charming smile.

“Are you alright there, miss?” He asked as he released her.
“Yes, thank you. Just was distracted there for a moment,” she said with a light laugh.
“Easy to do. These receptions are always so busy, these things happen. Are you enjoying yourself?” He asked.
“Oh, yes, it’s been lovely so far.”
“Did you come all by yourself?” The question seemed out of the blue, and Cerys examined the man for a moment, trying to figure out his intentions.
“Oh no, my friends are coming too. I just live the nearest so I got here first, they’re going to be here any minute now,” she said, her light tone not giving away the suspicion bubbling in her stomach.
“Maybe I should keep an eye on you until they arrive. Just to make sure you don’t have any more mishaps,” he said, taking a step closer.
“I’m a grown woman, I can handle myself just fine.” Her polite facade was starting to drop. She wasn’t sure if this guy suspected something or if he was just being a creep, but she was starting to think he wouldn’t back down. This wasn’t what she wanted, and she knew it could potentially complicate things later. But punching him would definitely garner unwanted attention, and that would be worse.

When Dhani didn’t text him the night after their mission, Atticus wasn’t quite sure how to process it. He was more worried than he was willing to admit, but didn’t want to dwell on it. But then he got a text the following morning, and it was off his mind. Even though he knew there was nothing normal about their relationship, texting Dhani felt like an oasis of normal in everything else. When his day to day life was too boring, it was something to keep him occupied. When things felt a tad overwhelming, it was something normal, just texting a guy he liked. But with Lucy determined to have everything ironed out for this ball, it was next to impossible to figure out a way to see him in person. Him and Lucy had been entrusted with trying to distract and occupy a number of people while some of the others went snooping around, and it required a significant amount of planning and… well, rehearsal.

Getting ready for the masquerade ball or whatever it was took more effort than Att really wanted to put into it. It needed a new suit and a mask that wasn’t just the same one he wore as Icarus. He wasn’t going as Atticus Hawkins, though. He was going as William Alexander Goldberg-Jameson III, and that required a slightly different look. He didn’t think for a second anyone would recognize him anyway, but he wasn’t taking a chance. So his suit was perhaps a little more out there than usual, and his mask was elaborate. But as he got dressed that evening, making sure to look as polished as possible, he felt like he wasn’t totally looking at himself when he looked in the mirror. He looked like a different version of himself, and that was what he wanted. Into his inside pocket went his knives. He hadn’t gotten another gun yet. He kept putting it off, coming up with different reasons why knives were a better solution all round.

He’d tried to force visions about the ball on a number of different occasions, but every single time, he saw something entirely unrelated. Eventually he gave up, the emotional and physical toll just too much. He didn’t know if knowing or not knowing was better. If he had seen something, would he have even been able to change it?

Atticus and Lucy made their way to the hotel by limo, Lucy insisting that there was no way in hell they were just getting a taxi. They had an image to portray and they were going to stick to it. Att was on edge the whole time, but did enjoy the luxury of the limo and the attention they got as they stepped out was oddly wonderful. Delighted gasps and eyes that scanned them from head to toe and liked what they saw. Whispers about her dress, his suit, their masks. With their masks on, nobody could or would ever recognize them, and there was something thrilling about that. Att had slipped in his earpiece in the taxi, the mic already concealed in his mask.

“Icarus and Red Witch are on site,” he said, moments before they entered the main room together. He could feel eyes turn towards them as they entered, and he smiled. There was a power and a thrill in pretending to be someone else

After the discussion between the heroes and villains about the Gala, Jena wasn’t entirely happy about Adrian being the one to actually be going. The two had a bit of an argument about it, but Jena’s main point was that she wanted to go to the party and Adrian had to keep telling her that they weren’t just going to the gala to have fun that they had a mission to do. Jena pouted for a bit but still agreed, though Adrian did let her get all dressed up and fancy in the off chance she was able to reveal herself.

Adrian was happy to be partnered with a hero over a villain, and working with Artemis would be a nice change of pace as the two would be part of the infiltration team and getting what they came here for while Malfyre, Paladin, Icarus and Red Witch would all be distractions as well as Aboleth and BludWynd would be additional

The day of the gala Adrian let Jena get ready first as it wouldn’t take him long to get dressed, and would at least keep her from complaining as much during the mission. The two of them had bought matching masks for the occasion, though their choice of apparel did not match, which didn’t matter as much. Adrian wore a simple grey suit, but enjoyed the peacoat he would be showing up in. While Jena went a little bit more out, doing a curling her hair with a half-up half-down braid, and buying a new sequined dress.

You look absolutely beautiful babe, I’m really sorry you won’t be able to show it off. Adrian said as to Jena as she did a little spin in the mirror before letting Adrian take over. Pfft, you never know. She replied as Adrian put some product in his hair and combed it, so it wasn’t the usual mess it was. As the two of them finished, it didn’t take them long to get to the gala location. Adrian just took an UberLux instead of a regular taxi and just walked up to the front entrance.

“Nicholls, Henry Barnabas Nicholls” Adrian repeated the alias Malfyre had given him for the gala to the door guard and was quickly let in. He grabbed two glasses of the waiters and looked around for Cerys, remembering the short description she had given him for what she would look like. As he pushed himself through the crowd he quickly found her and walked up and wrapped his arm around her, to play the part. “Evening dearest, apologies for making you wait, stunning as ever.” He said with a smile towards Artemis. Hey, hands… He heard Jena say to him. Babe, we have an image to keep, don’t worry He replied to her.

The two heroes spoke for a little bit as more people tended to show up, Adrian lifted his wrist up to act as he was coughing as he spoke into his watch that he built a mic into. “We’re good to go whenever y’all are.”

The presence of another woman appearing beside Cerys was enough for her to sigh with relief. Cerys couldn’t say that she knew the woman. But there was an oddly familiar energy about her, something that she couldn’t quite put her finger on. But the woman walked away before she could figure it out. Perhaps just a charitable stranger.

She slipped immediately into her role as Gemini approached. She smiled at him and took the second glass from him, taking a small sip from it. “Thank you, darling. You look positively dashing yourself,” she said.

The first distraction came in the form of two people beginning a rather striking dance. Cerys would have liked to stay and watch, but she knew it was their chance to disappear. She turned and slipped down the nearest hallway. Her heels tapped on the floor, causing a little more noise than she was happy with, but they’d have to work with it. “They seemed to think that they’d have the hard drive somewhere near the ballroom, not in one of the bedrooms,” she said. There weren’t many rooms in the hotel that they could possibly be in, but they also didn’t have that much time. “Where should we start?”

Adrain had just started taking a sip when people started to circle around a couple, quickly seeing a blonde woman and dark hair gentlemen both wearing emerald green. “Probably them, we should get going.” He said to his partner before they slipped down the hall, Adrian letting out a laugh at her heels making a small clicking noise as they tapped. As they got away from the group the two started to discuss their plan. “Hmm, honestly no idea, say we just start going through and see what we can find. Maybe it’ll say property of the bad guys on it or something.” He said with a chuckle as the two started going through rooms.

Cerys nodded as Adrian suggested they just started searching the rooms. “Or maybe it’ll be labeled TOP SECRET PLANS, DO NOT TOUCH,” she joked as they let themselves into the first room. It appeared to be some sort of storage room, with more bottles of champagne and napkins and so on. There was nothing of interest, and they moved on to the next one. At first, it didn’t look particularly promising, until Cerys found a box, stashed in the corner. “Keep an eye on the door,” she whispered as she pulled it out and began digging through it.

Adrian let out a chuckle as Artemis joked back, and nodded as she requested keeping an eye out for any movement as well as seeing if he could hear any footsteps going. So boring… Why couldn’t we just stay in the ballroom and enjoy ourselves. He heard Jena say to him, he just rolled her eyes. As I said before. We aren’t here to have fun Jena. Now please can you be quiet so I can keep an eye out. He replied to her, though he turned his head back as his partner said she found something, and quickly, but quietly, heading over to see what she had found.

Cerys retrieved the box from the corner and began silently sorting through it, sitting cross-legged on the floor as she did so.. At first, it didn’t look that promising. But then she found what was supposedly an instruction manual for something that felt suspiciously heavy. “Gemini, come here,” she whispered. “Look at this,” she said, flicking through it until she found where pages had been cut out to conceal a hard drive. “They obviously were expecting-”

Someone was at the door and was opening it. Cerys only had a moment to think, and her reaction was almost a reflex. She pulled Gemini down on top of her, pressing her lips against his and pulling his hands so they were on her, slipping the hard drive into his pocket as she did so.

“You shouldn’t be in here,” a man’s voice said, and Cerys pulled away from Adrian, letting out a nervous giggle. “Sorry, we were just… we’ll be leaving,” she said, her voice higher and sickly sweet. She stood up and took Adrian’s hand, giggling a little as she pulled him out of the room. Once they were far enough away to be out of earshot, she took a moment to gather herself.

“Sorry about that, had to figure something out where he wouldn’t look too closely. Hard drive’s in your pocket, don’t lose it,” she said. “Make sure to lie low, if he realises the drive is gone, he’ll connect the dots. And if he does ask, somebody left the room before we went in, and they looked super suspicious,” she added, before turning and heading back towards the ballroom. As she did so, she lifted her hand to her face in an act of tucking her hair behind her ear, the mic concealed in her bracelet. “We have the hard drive, I’m on my way back to the ballroom now.”

As Adrian got over to Cerys, he saw the open manual with pages cut out perfectly holding in a hard drive. He listened to her talk until the door began to open. He was supposed to be keeping watch and now their cover was about to be blown. Though what happened next happened in a flash and something he wasn’t expecting. Next thing he knew he was straddling on top of Cerys and their lips together. His hands were quickly moved to his side as he felt something slide into his pocket.

Adrian's mind went blank as he was kissing Cerys and didn’t come to until she helped him up and let out a giggle as the two left the room, quickly getting away from whoever had opened the door, him being little red and warm from what just happened. Cerys spoke fast to him before she left and waltzed back to the main room. What the fuck was that!? Jena practically screamed at him.

Gemini leaned against the wall. It was nothing Jena, she, uh, just saved us. It was to keep us from getting caught Adrian sighed as he ran his hand through his hair. He knew Jena wasn’t happy with what just happened, and wasn’t exactly sure what else to tell her. First the cute names and the being all touchy, and then you two start making out. Did you forget I was here? Jena continued. “Enough!” Adrian said out loud accidentally. We don’t have time for this Jena. Just because they had the hard drive doesn’t mean they were home free yet. Jena? He asked, and then sighed as he figured she would be giving him the silent treatment. Adrian slowly stood up and composed himself before heading back to the ballroom.

As Adrian was about to enter back into the ballroom, he felt a hand on his shoulder and was quickly turned around, forcefully. The person that forced him to turn around was the man who had walked in on him and Cerys, and Adrian knew this guy stopping him wouldn’t be good. “You. Did you take anything out of that room you and your woman friend were in?” He asked, more so demanding an answer after letting go of him.

Adrian gulped as his mind raced, trying to figure out what to say. “Uh… No? Me and my, uh, partner just entered a random room. Once again, we’re sorry. If you want to talk to her, she just excused herself ahead of me to get a drink. “ He quickly said, trying not to stumble over his words as he came up with a story on the fly. He was hoping he could keep a poker face going and the man would believe him, unfortunately, the man did not.

“If you didn’t take anything, then you wouldn’t mind emptying your pockets and letting me pat you down then.” The man said with a smirk. He must have known he had the hard-drive, either him or Cerys. Jena… I could use some help here. Adrian said in his mind, but getting no answer, just silence. “Oh. Uh. Sure. Let me just…” Adiran started to say, before he slammed his foot into the man’s shin and took off running down the hall away from the man, hearing him curse a bit in pain, before chasing after him.

Jena. I get it, you’re mad. But now isn’t the time! Adrian tried again, but once again, nothing. He could hear the man behind, he was radioing in about an intruder having the stolen hard-drive and giving Adrian’s description, but to try not to cause panic in the ballroom with the guests. “God damnit.” He sighed, knowing now his cover was blown. He had to either escape from the gala or try to get Jena to stop giving him the silent treatment so they could leave without incident.

Coming to an intersection in the hallway, Adrian could hear more guards approaching and would soon be cornered. Luckily there was one door near him that would help him out, he just had to make sure no one was in there. A bathroom. He quickly entered and locked the door and hurried over to the sink and starred in it at himself. “Jena!” He shouted out loud at the mirror, before going back to his internal speaking. I get it. You’re mad. That shouldn’t have. But can we please talk about this later. We need to swap now before I’m caught with this.He continued, taking the hard drive out of his pocket and placing it on the counter, waiting for Jena to answer. There was pounding at the door and a voice demanding for the door to be opened. Fine.

Within seconds Gemini switched from their male persona to their female persona, luckily they had prepared for this so Jena would still be able to blend in and Malfyre added a fake name for her to the list as well. Jena quickly shoved the hard drive into her small purse she had and pulled out a small thing of powder inside her compact mirror. And right as Jena did, the door burst open and two men entered quickly with small stun guns drawn, only seeing a woman and no one else. Jena let out a little shriek, only faking a little bit as she was surprised. “What are you doing!? Did you not hear me say occupied, you guys are pervs!” She shouted at them, the two men quickly getting red and embarrassed. “Uh, we, uh, didn’t hear you.” “Ma’am, we are sorry. We thought someone else would be in here, we didn’t mean to barge in on you. We will be leaving you alone.” The two men practically talked over each other before they left and closed the door.

Thanks babe. I say it’s time to leave, let the others know about what happened. Adrian spoke up. “No.” Jena said out loud. “I have to take care of something.” She continued, before touching up her make-up and walking out of the bathroom and back towards the main hall. Adrian questioned what she meant, but she kept her mind on one thing and was ignoring what he was saying. She had something, someone, to deal with.

It didn’t take Jena long to get back to the ballroom and it also didn’t take her long to find what she was looking for and quickly locking in on her target. Artemis. Now Adrian knew what Jena meant by taking care of something. Jena. Jena. Calm down. Don’t do what I think you’re about to do. Adrian said, trying to reason with her, but she quickly shut him down with a quick shut up and continued walking, eventually arriving behind Artemis, ignoring all the other commotion in the room

“Hey ‘Miss Rothschild’ or whatever your name is.” Jena said loudly to get Cerys’ attention. As soon as she turned around Jena slapped her across the face, adding a little bit of actual heat to her hand. Not enough to cause any real scaring or burn, but enough to send a message. “Don’t you dare kiss or even think of touching my man again, or I’m really going to give you a burn.” She said before walking away, not giving Cerys a chance to say or do anything, and leaving the gala and heading home.

Gemini was going to have a long night between the both of them.

Cerys scanned the room as she stepped back into the main ballroom, searching for a familiar face to go talk to. Dhani was perhaps the easiest to spot. She only knew a handful of people who could wear a suit like that and pull it off, so when combined with his height, he was easy to pick out. He seemed to be arguing with somebody, however, so she figured it was probably best to just stay away from that. She stayed moving around the crowd, eager not to appear suspicious, watching the whole time to see if she was needed anywhere.

She jumped a little as Dhani’s voice spoke in her earpiece, saying that they hadn’t been successful. She frowned, and scanned the room to see if anything had happened. There seemed to be a lot more security about, but no obvious disturbance. When she heard somebody calling her by her alias, she feared the worst. When she turned around to look, she wasn’t sure if she was relieved or not to see another partygoer. But she didn’t recognise the woman, even as she closed in. But the heat behind the slap, more heat than there should have been, was the first clue, and her threat was the second. Cerys just stared as the woman walked away, trying to gather herself. People were staring. So she shrugged and laughed lightly. “Wait until she finds out about her boyfriend’s other mistresses,” she said, sipping lightly on her champagne as she walked away. People thrived on gossip, and it might be enough to distract some of them.

Intending on leaving, she slipped out into the hall as Aaron came on the mic to say Malfyre had left. Clearly something had happened with her and Dhani’s distraction then. She’d have to get the details from someone later. She jumped a little as she noticed someone else in the hall, but she recognised the figure. “Aaron? Jesus Christ, you would not believe the night I’ve had-” she started, but stopped herself as she spotted the blood on his hands. “Shit, by the looks of it, you’ve had a worse one. Are you okay?” She asked.

He’d always been good at faking comfort in a party, and this was nothing new. This was just another one of his parents’ mixers, an excuse for them to talk business and entertain and show off their power. If anything, this was easier, because here, he just had to blend in, not be the weapon he was supposed to be. He just needed to wait until it was appropriate to leave, and then do so without being noticed.

He almost jumped out of his skin when he felt a hand on his arm, but sighed when it was just Aboleth. He sighed as she asked what was wrong, just shaking his head. “One of the guys from The Bachelor is here, and… Lucy got talking to him when she was supposed to be distracting her mark, and her mark was free to roam around. I yelled at her about that and… we had a bit of an argument, I might have called her a bitch, and she stormed out. It’s fine, she probably just needs a couple of hours to calm down.” He said, with a shrug, never quite meeting Piper’s eyes. Part of it was guilt, part of it was just a habit from knowing what her ability entailed. While glancing away, he could see more and more security starting to appear around the room, clearly trying and failing to blend in. Security never could blend in right, no matter how much they tried. They were like cops, they stood out if you knew how to look for them.

“Listen, I think we need to get out of here,” he said. “Security seems to have doubled, and I’m guessing they know something is up. We should leave before they start asking questions.” He eyed up the nearest guard as he spoke. He knew that they’d be looking for anyone who stood out, and he unfortunately fit that brief. “Can… can you check in with Lucy? She’s not going to talk to me and I need to know if I need to avoid the apartment or not,” he joked, but it sounded as forced as it felt. “Thanks.”

He turned and headed for the exit. He fully intended on just leaving, but BludWynd’s voice in his earpiece made him slow. Malfyre had left. Exactly how badly had things gone? He didn’t want to linger any longer, but he found his gaze drawn towards Dhani again. He pulled out his phone and sent a text.

To: Dhani
Are you okay?

And then, after a moment;

I’m outside. Can we talk?

Once he got outside, he pulled off his mask and his jacket, knowing the colour of his suit and the mask were too identifying if anyone started asking questions. Their limo was still there, the driver just playing a game on his phone. Lucy hadn’t taken the limo home then, and Att almost instinctively raised an eyebrow. He was surprised that she hadn’t taken it if only to force him to walk or get a taxi home.

Somebody had once asked him how he could tell the difference between a vision and a dream. Usually, it was the sheer clarity. It felt like he was there. Sometimes it was like he was the one dying. Sometimes he was the one responsible. He never knew which was better. Sometimes, he could feel the pain if he was the one dying. But the ones where he was responsible were a haunting echo of his old life, and left him questioning if he was actually going to be the one responsible. But this time round, he knew exactly which position he would have preferred to be in. Because as bad as it was to experience the pain and trauma of being killed… it couldn’t be worse than seeing his hand pulling the trigger of the gun that was against Lucy’s head.

He bolted upright, the dream still lingering in his head, far, far too vivid to be anything other than a vision. Nausea rose in him as he tried to catch his breath, still feeling like there was someone sitting on his chest. His head was spinning from the sudden movement, but he fought back against his body’s protests to reach over and grab his phone, struggling to read the texts at first. There was a moment of relief when he saw the texts from Piper, but as he read the texts and the screenshots within, the nausea and panic became almost overwhelming. But when he went to actually get to his feet, his head spun so much that he felt like his legs wouldn’t support him. He didn’t have time for this, he needed to do something now. He just sank back onto the bed and squinted at his phone, looking for the number. It rang, which settled his anxiety a little, but she didn’t answer. Of course she didn’t, why would she? She was mad at him, that was all.

“Lucy, if you get this, call me, it’s urgent.” He doubted she’d check her voicemail if she thought it was from him though, so he sent a text as well.

To: Lucy
Call me, it’s urgent.

Was he too late? The rational part of him told him that no, he was pretty sure it wasn’t supposed to happen for another few days at least, but he also knew that it was always a vague timeframe anyway. He didn’t have time to hesitate, didn’t have time to wait around. He needed to tell someone, he needed to do something before it was too late.

He didn’t know what made him pick that number first of all. Maybe he thought that Dhani could help the most, maybe he knew that Dhani could probably contact the rest of the heroes, or maybe it was the same goddamn reason he’d offered him a ride home the night before.

He hesitated for a minute, wanting to call him. He wanted to hear a friendly voice, wanted to hear someone tell him he would be okay. But another wave of nausea hit him and he was pretty sure that he wasn’t capable of holding a coherent conversation. Texting was just about as much as he could manage.

To: Dhani
I need your help- rw in trouble and only gonna get worse if I don’t do something

He wanted to deal with this like they always had, as few people as possible, but if they were as short on time as he thought, they couldn’t afford that. Lucy couldn’t afford that.

To: Dhani
can you contact the others? things are real bad and we need to meet asap

He didn’t know what to say, didn’t know what he should do, and hated how scared and useless he felt. He hadn’t felt like this in years, it hadn’t been this personal in years. It wasn’t like he wasn’t freaked out by every vision he had, but this was just… a whole other level. He had to do something and had to do it soon, and that was just making it worse. And sitting here feeling sorry for himself wasn’t good enough. He managed to get to his feet and get dressed, making his way out to the kitchen to make coffee, watching his phone the whole time. He knew he needed to text Piper as well, get her help on it, but something in him told him to wait until he’d heard from Dhani.

Most of the time when couples have fights, one is able to slam the door in the other person’s face while yelling from across the room, give the other person silent treatment, or just walk out of the house and getting some time alone with your thoughts. But that’s for most normal couples, and Adrian and Jena were the farthest thing from a normal couple. If someone was to watch them having an argument, they would just think it’s a crazy person yelling at themself most of the time and probably call someone to help for this, and the night of the Gala was not any different for Gemini.

The taxi ride home was filled with silence, not just in the physical space of the taxi cab but in the head of Gemini. After the taxi driver tried to give a little bit of small talk to the fancy dressed woman in his back seat and got short replies back, he just turned up the music and drove through the city until getting to the apartment the woman had asked for. Jena dug into her purse and just handed the man a single hundred dollar bill, more than enough to cover the meter charge, letting the man keep the change. She carried her heels in her opposite hand that held her purse as she walked up the stairs, still in silence But as soon as the door shut to their apartment and walked over to the large mirror taking up most of the wall in the living room, the arguing and fight began and continued throughout the night.

The argument was mostly one-sided as Jena was pissed off at Adrian and his, what she would call, affair with Artemis. Accusing him of always being the one to work with her when in the public eye and that she hasn’t been blind and seen how the public basically ships the hero pair of Artemis and the water-controller Gemini, especially after a case where he used water from hydrant to soften a semi truck being thrown at her. Adrian did his best to calm down the situation, and somehow succeeded in convincing her ‘it wont happen again’ and it was just to save them from being out.

The night ended with Jena eventually laying on the bed and tears in her eyes, apologizing to Adrian, saying how much she loved him and sometimes they are only together because they have to be because of their condition and what happened. Adrian of course forgave her and told her he would be with her even if they didn’t share bodies, and them being two souls in one body isn’t a burden, but a benefit as they can be closer than any other couple, ever. The two fell asleep after a few more minutes of telling each other they loved each other and doing their little ritual of taking turns writing lovey-dovey stuff on a note pad while the other doesn’t pay attention and then letting them read it. Adrian had always believed to never go to bed angry, and has pushed this heavily in his relationship with Jena.

The next morning, Adrian took over the body and let Jena sleep in a bit, as well as making a small breakfast for the two of them. Just as Adrian sat down and started eating her got a call from Paladin. The two weren’t strangers to chatting so it didn’t surprise him that much to see him calling him. Probably to check in about what happened and probably ask about their next move. “Hey man, sorry about last night, not everything went perfect, but we did get a hard-drive, assuming Art told you about that?” He said as he answered the call.

Dhani talked fast, quickly telling him about what one of the villain’s had told him about. A little confused about why a villain would have reached out to Paladin, but dismissed it as he listened and while he didn’t say much and only it was about Red Witch. The two continue to talk, suggesting and setting up a meeting time and place in a couple hours. It would work best for everyone and give them time to get ready and get there without having to rush too much. He asked if Dhani needed help contacting some of the others, but Dhani had it under control. Adrian thought about waking up Jena right then after hanging up, but gave her another thirty minutes, gave him time to finish eating and clean the kitchen, as well get ready himself.

Just as Adrian got done getting ready, Jena woke up and Adrian told her about the meeting soon, letting her take control . “Ugh, you should’ve woken me up so I could get ready!” She said as she walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. I still had to get ready too you know. There’s breakfast in the kitchen, you still have time to get ready and eat. He replied in their mind. Also, why do you always look so beautiful in the morning He said, making Jena blush as she started getting ready.

After eating Jena finally left for the warehouse, a little later than she planned. Adrian teased her a bit about it, but she kept saying it was his fault for not waking her up. As Jena entered through the side door of the warehouse, she saw Artemis was also arriving right when she was. You should talk to her babe… Adrian quickly said to her, Jena letting out a sigh and agreed, before walking over to her.

Jena lightly tapped her fellow hero on the shoulder and did a small fake cough to get her attention. “Hey Arty…” She said shyly. “I, I wanted to apologize for last night. I over reacted and shouldn’t have done that. Just… stuff pent up, and you know how those forums are. I guess I accidentally let jealousy take over.” She continued, eyes drifting away from her for a second. “So, sorry…” Jena wasn’t sure if her apology sounded genuine or not, but hoped it would be received well.

Cerys had just about managed to start to focus on her work when her phone buzzed with a text from Dhani. She swore silently at the news about Red Witch. There was no love lost between them, but after what she’d learned that morning, it probably wasn’t the best news for any of them. If Dhani had just texted her out of the blue to say something had happened to Red Witch, she wasn’t sure that she would have shown up. But she had important knowledge she needed to share, and so she felt almost obliged to at least share that information.

She at least managed to get some work done for a few hours before leaving to go to the meeting. She’d also spent a few minutes cleaning up the recording a little so the voices were clearer and easier to identify, and spent half an hour backing up everything important to a remote hard drive, made sure she had nothing incriminating easily accessible, and double checked to make sure she was still ahead of schedule with her work. When you were liable to have to take a day or two off due to getting your ass kicked while on patrol, you learned to never leave articles or blog posts until the very last minute.

She knew she wasn’t going to be able to go to the meeting in full Artemis gear. It was too early in the day and too easy to be spotted. She knew that that didn’t mean the meeting was going to necessarily be safe, though. It was about striking a balance between blending in and still being practical, which meant leaving her outfit as it was, but wrapping her knuckles and pulling on a pair of gloves, braiding her hair out of her face, and shoving her mask into her pocket. She didn’t trust everyone enough to show up to a meeting without her mask.

She stopped only briefly outside the warehouse to pull on her mask, arriving a few minutes early. She stepped inside, scanning the room and keeping her arms folded. Everyone looked as on edge as she felt, which was oddly comforting. She almost jumped out of her skin when somebody coughed behind her and tapped her on the shoulder. She whirled around to see the female part of Gemini standing behind her, and let out a sigh of relief.

She smiled and shook her head a little as she apologized for how she’d reacted. “It’s fine, really. I don’t think I blame you. And by the ways, those forums are total bullshit, some of their theories are batshit insane. Like, shipping Paladin with a villain level of insane,” she joked. “So we’re good. You have nothing to worry about.”

She turned to look as Icarus cleared his throat, stepping out of the shadows where he’d been lurking.

He’d managed to drink most of the coffee he’d made, but eating something still seemed a little far beyond him. Atticus knew he should do something productive, but he couldn’t bring himself to do any more than pace around the apartment. What could he do? What could he do that would help the situation?

The buzzing of his phone almost made him jump, and even seeing it was Dhani didn’t help. But he had at least agreed to help, and it meant no matter what else, Att wasn’t alone in this. And that was a start. The question of if he was okay went unanswered. He didn’t want to lie but he also didn’t want to worry Dhani by being overly honest about it. So he just… didn’t reply until Dhani sent a text with meeting details.

To: Dhani
yeah, I can pass that on. thanks, I really appreciate it.

To: Piper
Lucy missing, in real danger. Meeting the heroes in a few hours to figure it out. Here’s the details.

The meeting was still a few hours away, and Att tried to put his mind to something productive. But it wasn’t like he had any skills that would be particularly useful, not when he had zero leads and nothing more than a vision to go on. He had a vague sense of time frame and next to no sense of where it would happen, which was completely useless. Lucy’s room was completely untouched, exactly as it had been when they left the apartment the night before. Useless.

He was tempted to see if he could trigger another vision, but he’d never tried to do it for someone he’d already had a vision for, and didn’t even know if it would work. It worked much better with physical contact anyway, and knowing his luck, it would drain him far too much for him to be of any use at the meeting. He also knew that there was a big, big risk that this could be a trap. Take one of them, cause them all to flock together, then pick them off. But they had to meet, they had to figure it out, they had to do something, he had to do something.

He didn’t even check how he looked before he left, just pulled on a warm coat, shoved his mask in his pocket, and made sure he was carrying enough weapons for a worst case scenario. He’d gotten his hands on another gun in return for a favour, a necessary evil. (They were going to die in a police shootout, in a blaze of glory, and they seemed pleased with that.)

It seemed that most of the others were there by the time he arrived. He stuck to the edges, as always, the exits in clear view. He stared straight at the ground, only glancing up to see if anyone else had arrived.

Once it seemed that everyone else that was coming was there, he shot a glance at Dhani. Dhani had, strictly speaking, called the meeting, but Att was the reason they were all there, so it seemed he should be the one to talk, as much as he didn’t want to. He cleared his throat to gather their attention.

“Thanks for coming at such late notice. I’ll get straight to the point.” He scanned the room, as he spoke, but couldn’t meet anyone’s eyes. “Red Witch is going to be killed in the next few days unless I- we- do something. And she didn’t come home last night, so I can only presume that we don’t have a lot of time. I’m not going to force anyone to stay or to help, but… she will die if we don’t do anything, and we can only presume one of us will be next.”

His phone started buzzing in his pocket, and he dug it out, intending to silence it. But he froze as he saw the name on it. Almost instinctively, he turned to glance at Dhani. “It’s her.”

There was a moment of relief at her finally contacting him, enough that he didn’t think the fact it was a video call was odd, he just answered it. “Lu- Red Witch, where are you?” He said, until he realised what he was looking at. “Oh my god.”He whirled around to set eyes on Malfyre. “Come on, you’re a hacker, trace the call or something! Get the phone connected to your laptop, do something!” He yelled.

Luciana slowly came to consciousness, but as she opened her eyes, her vision was mostly obstructed, some sort of cloth bag covering her face. As she went to pull it off, she felt her hands strapped down onto the chair she was sitting. She was confused about what was going on before remembering what happened last night, with the men and woman and the van. The noise of her struggling caught the attention of the people in the room, Lucy heard footsteps come closer to her and pulled the sack off her head. She took time to look around the room to get her surroundings, but it just looked like any abandoned warehouse, which Barden was flowing with. But seeing the guards around here isn’t what caught her attention, but the bright lights, camera, and large screen monitor facing her and wire’s going towards a phone, her phone.

“Look who's finally awake.” The man said that pulled off her hood, dressed in a type of suit and less armor than the guards, probably the one in charge, or atleast incharge of the guards here. “Who are you, and why am I here?” Luciana said, venom behind her words, still struggling her hands a bit. “I am Mark Anderson. I work for someone who wants to make a deal with you.” He said, turning his back to her and going to the camera set up, making sure it was good and grabbing a headset. “This doesn’t seem like a good way to make a deal with someone Mr. Mark Ander-fuck.” She replied as she struggled against him trying to put the headset on her, and quickly slapping her to make her keep still. “Stop struggling. And first we gotta send a little message to someone, and then we will be off to my boss. You’ll appreciate seeing them again.”

“And why do I care about this message or deal? You’re just gonna kill me anyways.” The man laughed and put the sack back on her head, covering her face. “Because if you don’t, we won’t kill you, we will kill Mister Hawkins. And maybe try to track down some information on Miss Aboleth, she’s a bit more slippery to find information about. Plus, you’re gonna appreciate what my employer has planned. Now onto business.” He paused for a second and walked away, before talking again, this time into the headset he put on her. “I will tell you what to say, and you will repeat it. And don’t try any tricks. You saw that you're outnumbered and we really don’t want to hurt you anymore. Okay Miss Morrison?” He finished. Luciana could still see the bright lights and rough figures through the mesh of the sack on her head, saw him wave her arms as two guards stood next to her and another one next to the camera. “Fine.” Lucy said reluctantly. She wouldn’t be able to escape now, but she would just have to wait for her moment. “Good. Now you two, make sure the truck is ready and the decoy is ready for when they come after her. They think we’re gonna kill her, let’s use that to our advantage.”

About 30 more minutes passed as more things were set up and instructions were given to the guards and the men around her. Luciana was just about falling asleep when she felt a someone nudge her shoulder. “Show time.” The voice said, Lucy looking forward and seeing a man hold up his hand, showing five fingers. Then four. Three. Two. One. And her phone began ringing. One ring, nothing. Two ring, nothing. But on the third ring, she saw the black screen on the monitor go away and a figure coming onto screen, unable to make out who it was, just that it was a person. But a voice quickly answered, saying her alias, Atticus.

Luciana stayed quiet for a moment, not answering, but a man behind the camera waved his arm, she was met with a hard hit to the side of her face, assuming it was from the butt of a gun. “Speak. Say who you are and tell them I muted their side of the call.” Instructions from the man flowed into her head dry Lucy coughed a bit as she was pulled back into a sitting up position. “I’m the Red Witch.” She began to talk, waiting for instructions to follow into her headset. The video on the screen flickered as now it looked like multiple people in a room. Lucy assumed Atticus was with the heroes. More instructions quickly came into her head.

“By the way, your side of the call is muted so you can’t interrupt our message to you. We are holding Miss Red Witch under our captivity. We want you and your friends to stop looking into us. Breaking into our offices, trailing our employees, crashing our gala. Gemini. Artemis.” Luciana spoke, pausing for a moment as she was told to give the heroes and villains time to react, a train horn blare in the background.. “If you don’t. We will kill the Red Witch, and that will be just the beginning, much worse will follow if you do not accept our deal. We just want what’s best for our city, and that doesn’t have to involve blood shed. And all it-” Luciana paused for a second, thinking over in her head. She was told to continue with the messages to the others or else.

“Don’t! Don’t listen to them! Icarus. Aboleth! It’s a trap. Ju-” Luciana shouted, before more yelling came from the guards, and Lucy was hit in the stomach, knocking the wind out of her and telling her to shut up. “Fuck you! Take this shit off my head and let me fight yo-” Luciana was interrupted again as she was hit again and a hand covered her mouth and her yelling turned to muffles. Two guards held down Luciana as the man in the suit came over and pulled the bag off of her head. “I’m not that surprised you decided to act up. Though it might make it easier to bring them into our trap. But we need you to behave now, so this might sting a bit.” The man said as he injected some sort of drug into the Red Witch’s neck, causing her to slowly fade into unconsciousness.

Jena let out a bit of a giggle when Cerys brought up some of the wild crack ships some of the citizens think of and the edits they somehow make. “You’re so right, still I hate it that they think me and my other half are brother and sister.” Jena said, making a fake throw up noise and face. She smiled and was glad Cerys didn’t take offense to how she acted at the gala. See, wasn’t all that bad Jen, maybe now they will make ships about you two. Adrian spoke and chuckled a bit to Jena, Jena just shaking her head in response as her and Artemis entered the main room, standing next to each other as others started to arrive and wait for the meeting to start.

Adrian only said the meeting was something about the heroes and more would be explained at the meeting, so Jena wasn’t entirely sure what was going on and tapped her foot waiting for someone to start and say something, starting to get a bit impatient. She was about to speak up and say something, but Icarus cleared his throat and began to speak. The first few words surprised Jena and Adrian. That Red Witch was going to die in a few days. He must have seen something with his powers. Jena said to Adrian, Mhmm… He replied as they continued to listen to the villain.

Gemini knew they would help and weren’t just going to leave the villain to die. First off, it wouldn’t be the hero way to just let someone die without trying to save, but also they needed the Red Witch as much as they needed the rest of the group. Adrian was about to ask Jena to let him take over so he could talk and try to come up with a plan of trying to find the Red Witch and what to do, when Icarus picked up his ringing phone and said it was her, though it was more directed at Paladin.

Jena tensed up a bit when she caught sight of the screen, seeing a woman with what seemed like blonde hair restrained to a chair with a bag over her head. Icarus started to freak out a bit, yelling at Malfyre to trace the call and get it hooked up to her laptop, which she had already pulled out before the meeting started. Malfyre worked fast and got the phone connected to the laptop so everyone in the room could see what's going on, as well as another screen with a ton of stuff quickly flowing down, probably just Malfyre things.

Gemini let out a small gasp as the villain was hit, and began speaking, but in a weird manner which Jena noted. “She must be being fed what to say…” Gemini whispered out loud to the others as the villain continued to speak. Though what happened next scared Jena. Red Witch shouted towards them, specifically at Aboleth and Icarus. Jena let out a bit more audible gasp and instinctively grabbed onto Artemis as the villain was struck and interrupted, the video feed quickly cutting off as there was more yelling coming from the video.

As they stared at a blank screen, Jena noticed she was still grabbing onto Artemis and let go quickly, followed by a quiet sorry. Jena, let me take over… Take some time to relax. Adrian said, Jena just nodded and Adrian took over, taking a step forward. “Hey!” He said loudly to get their attention. “Alot just happened, and we don’t want to act rashly. Malfyre is, what I’m assuming, trying to track location of the phone. Icarus said a few days, that gives us some time to think of something. Anyone got any ideas?”

Piper had tried to call Lucy, like Atticus had asked, but she didn’t pick up. She didn’t think much of it when Lucy texted her shortly after, and just screenshot the messages to send to Att. After that, she was done with the situation. They could work out their roommate drama themselves.

The next morning, she went about her usual routine: yoga, light breakfast, shower, get ready for the day, look over her schedule. It was important for her to stay on top of the jobs she took; sometimes people requested her talents very last-minute, and she didn’t want to double-book herself again. That had been messy.

All together, though, she was looking forward to a normal day. She didn’t have much to do, which she didn’t mind at all. She was just starting to mentally plan out her day when she got a text from Atticus, and her blood ran cold. Of course she would be there, and she shot back a quick text, saying as much. Lucy was her friend, and she would do what she could to get her back. Though, Piper wasn’t sure that she could do much, really.

There wasn’t much to do to get ready for the meeting. Strictly speaking, Piper didn’t even have any sort of “uniform” to change into; she hardly even had a consistent mask. Though, she did wish she hadn’t gone through the trouble of applying lipstick. That would just get ruined. All she was really worried about was showing up on time. As per usual, she wore her mask around her neck, like some sort of a scarf, until she’d nearly arrived at the meeting place.

Just once, she would like to have a meeting in a place that didn’t look like it might collapse on top of them at any moment. She didn’t think that was too much to ask for.

It wasn’t very long before everyone had arrived. Most of the group was always on time, and Piper commended them for that. Especially now. She knew that many of the heroes weren’t the fondest of Lucy, so the fact that they would come out to help her meant a lot. Unless they hadn’t been told why they were here, which Piper figured was also a possibility.

She found herself staring at Atticus; she wondered if he was going to speak, how he was handling all of this. He and Lucy had fought the night before, so Piper wondered if he felt guilty. She wouldn’t have. Piper caught Atticus’ glance to Paladin; had he been the one that helped set this up? She crossed her arms as Att spoke; the danger they were all in felt very real in that moment, and the worry she felt for Lucy even more real. It was like an all-consuming pit in her stomach. They had to save Lucy. She would die if they didn’t, and then more of them would die. Piper wasn’t overly fond of anyone in the room, but they were still her best chance of survival, and they stood the best chance of finding Lucy before it was too late.

Then Lucy called.

There was a moment when Piper found herself hoping that Lucy was fine, she’d be back home soon, and everything would be fine. But Att’s reaction told her that was unlikely. She rushed to Atticus’ side, wanting to get a look at what was happening; though Malfyre quickly had the video feed hooked up to her computer. She felt the presence of another person behind her, but honestly didn’t think much of it. She was entirely focused on the video; watching wide-eyed, as if blinking would make it disappear. She wanted to flinch when Lucy was hit the first time, but she forced herself to stay calm, keep watching. Luciana needed them to stay calm.

Piper listened as carefully as she could, studied what little she could see and hear. She figured they were very likely only going to get to see this once, and she wasn’t going to risk assuming someone else was putting any of the information to memory. But when Lucy broke the script they were feeding her, Piper couldn’t stay as calm. Something was very wrong, and Piper wondered if she and Atticus had been specifically threatened, or if Luciana had just assumed it was them on the other end of the call. It was more violent when the guards hit Lucy the second time, and when combined with the warning, it was a surprising moment. Piper let out a quick yelp and recoiled, taking a step backwards, and right into someone. A pair of hands grabbed onto her shoulders, likely to steady her, but Piper immediately reached and grabbed onto the hand on her right shoulder with both her her own, taking a bit of comfort from the gesture.

It was only a short moment when, embarrassed by her reaction, she let go. She almost didn’t want to know who’s hand she’d just held onto like a scared child, but she figured she should apologize, so she turned her head. Of course it was Paladin. Why couldn’t it have been a hero she was even marginally familiar with? “Sorry,” The apology was hardly more than a whisper, but he shrugged it off.

“Don’t worry about it.”

Piper didn’t have much of a chance to consider if she would worry about it before Gemini (Hadn’t the other one been here earlier? It was so hard to keep them straight.) was speaking, trying to regain some control of the situation. Piper looked down at the floor as he spoke. She didn’t know much about any of this. She didn’t know how to help, or do anything besides tell people to give her a free cup of coffee. They had a little bit of time, but not much. Hopefully enough time to put a real plan together. She felt her eyes stinging, tears threatening to start pouring down her cheeks. She started blinking them back; this wasn’t the time. Later, she could be scared and cry. But not now, not in front of the heroes. Now, she needed to channel these emotions into something more useful. Anger, perhaps. "There was a train," She said, and cleared her throat, so her voice sounded a little stronger, "In the video. I don't know if it's helpful, but I heard a train."

Dhani had always felt like his mask looked silly when paired with regular clothing, but it was too early in the day to go out in a super suit, and frankly he didn’t want to deal with getting into it for a meeting. It wasn’t worth wearing the thing if he wasn’t going to be in it for at least a few hours. So he didn’t spend much time getting ready. As he left, he almost stopped by Kieran’s to make sure she was coming, but he didn’t want to bother her. Besides, he wanted to make sure he wasn’t late, and he was nearly almost lost when he started trying to drag Kieran along with him. He’d called the meeting, he couldn’t be late this time.

Instead, he tried to be early, wanting to show up ahead of everyone else. This felt tense, important, but before he knew it everyone had arrived. When Atticus glanced his way Dhani gave a small smile, as if to say “you can do this.” When Atticus started talking, Dhani glanced around the room at the others. He didn’t like speaking up at these meetings, but he was ready to if anyone decided to be difficult. Not that he thought they would, but Red Witch was not beloved amongst the heroes. Hell, he wasn’t fond of her, himself. But here Att was, asking all of them for help. Dhani knew that even if no one else agreed to help, he would. For Red Witch, and the cause they all shared… And for Atticus’ sake, too.

Atticus fished his phone out of his pocket just as he’d finished explaining what was going on, and then turned to look right at Dhani. It was Red Witch. It wasn’t long before Atticus was yelling at Kieran to do something. Dhani glanced at Kieran, hoping she’d keep it together for this. She was looking a little rough, but this was important. It wasn’t long before they had the video pulled up on a bigger screen, though everything else going on was a little distracting. Dhani moved in to watch, right over Aboleth’s shoulder. She was short enough that she wasn’t in his way, and he counted on her not minding him standing behind her.

The video itself wasn’t fun to watch. Dhani didn’t particularly like Red Witch, but he didn’t like seeing anyone be abused like that. It only solidified that they needed to work to get her out of wherever she was, and quickly. At the end of the video, Aboleth backed right into Dhani. She was surprised, and it was only a natural reaction. He grabbed onto her shoulders to stop her, so she wouldn’t end up taking them both to the floor. He didn’t know what to do when she grabbed his hand, so he didn’t do anything. It wasn’t a big deal, anyway. They were all on the same side right now, and Dhani had never hesitated to help out or comfort any of the heroes if he could.

Thankfully, Gemini stepped up to take control of the room. Dhani wasn’t much of a planner, but he’d go along with whatever plan was made. He looked at Att, trying to see if he could piece out how he was doing. Dhani didn’t know. The fucked up situation they’d been in had only gotten worse by the minute, and Dhani wouldn’t be surprised if it managed to get even worse before they finished the meeting.

I lost a bet to a guy in a Chiffon skirt
But I make these high heels work
I've told you time and time again

The walk from her apartment complex to the warehouse wasn’t so bad, except for the bright sunlight since it was still rather early in the day, which was only making her hangover worse. But thank god she grabbed a pair of sunglasses on her way out, which helped lessen the light sensitivity, but her head still ached, and having to walk and move around was only making her feel even more sick. She really should have just stayed home and stayed in bed and slept the hangover away, but here she was. Making her way to a warehouse for who knows what bullshit, probably an intervention, which if it was she would walk out the door the moment they started speaking to her. Malfyre knows she fucked up and probably jeopardized the mission, but Kieran’s pride wasn’t going to let that get to her, or even really dwell on it. That was the thing that not many people realized, that sure enough Malfyre was her alter-ego for the mutant side of her, who could just roll with the punches and act like things didn’t bother them, but Kieran, the actual person under the mask took things all too personally. Maybe she was a bit too sensitive sometimes, but she wasn’t going to let it go with what happened. And it was a weight she was going to bare for who knows how long. Not that she wanted it to show, she’d do her job, that’s all that mattered.

Finally, after what was about thirty or so minutes, Kieran saw the warehouse she’d need to go to in the distance, and put on her mask as she ducked into an alleyway, and made her way slowly to the warehouse. Scouting it out first as she wanted to make sure that it wasn’t a setup, seeing Gemini and Artemis walking in both together, talking, she snuck in behind them and hung close to one of the walls as she followed them in silently. Her attention was focused on Icarus as he greeted them all in, preparing herself for what was to come. But what came next, she hadn’t anticipated at all. Red Witch was missing. Somehow, on god’s green earth, Red Witch was missing, and Icarus was in need of help. Normally she would have brushed it off, but with the history of mutants, both heroes and villains disappearing, this wasn’t a chance they could afford to risk.

Malfyre stood motionless as Icarus looked at his phone and said how it was her, clearly Red Witch. If her hunch was right, it was going to be a bait, small piece of a bread trail they could use, or even a way for whoever was doing this to get the jump on them. Kieran quickly took out her laptop and was already getting things set up by the time Icarus started yelling at her to do something cuz she was a known hacker. “Already working on it, Pretty Boy! Just...Stop yelling at me, alright?” she yelled back as she scrambled to get his phone connected to her laptop, after setting up a few things to keep her laptop from being corrupted by anything on his phone, or if they were being tracked as well, she made sure to put up plenty of blockers and anti-tracking walls up to keep her laptop from being fucked with. If they couldn’t track them, they’d be fine. Kieran’s laptop was already searching over for any possible coordinates it could scan from the call, and even a simple location like what part of the city it was in could help tremendously.

Kieran’s eyes didn’t even bother looking at the screen with the video feed, that’s not where her priorities lied currently. Her eyes scanned over all of the coding and numbers that flew across the screen as multiple applications and scanners and the like scanned for even a simple trace. Anything at this point would help them. Kieran’s eyes glanced over to the other screen when there was a sound of what she thought was a slap, which she knew was confirmed by everyone’s reactions of gasps and shock. Kieran remained unfazed by what took place as Red Witch was sedated and the camera feed was cut shortly after. Kieran remained motionless as everyone else reacted differently, but also the same. Shock, confusion, worry. It was all normal reactions, but Kieran knew what the end result of the call was going to be. Torture and violence were common place for this type of situation, and Kieran would be lying to herself if she didn’t act like she had to have done some similiar things in the past to get information out of people. Hell, she had done far worse for less, which turned her stomach just a bit.

Slowly, Malfyre turned to get up, keeping the laptop on a stack of boxes that helped keep it propped up as the group gathered around her to watch the video call playout. Kieran walked over to one of the ends of the warehouse, lifting up the bottom of her mask just enough as she emptied the contents of her stomach as she dry heaved and gagged, her hangover really was getting worse as time went on. Besides, what she had seen, as much as she didn’t want to acknowledge it was disturbing in a sense. Kieran slowly made her way back over to the other in time to hear Gemini speak, who she noticed had changed forms since she walked away. Their power really was interesting. Something that was slowly peeking her interest into how it happened, or if it was naturally brought on. Shaking her head of those thoughts as she walked back over, pulling the rest of her mask back down as she crossed her arms.

The group were all asking what they’d do, with multiple people asking Malfyre what to do and what they would learn if they figured out where she was. “Okay first, one at a time please. I am one person and can only answer so much at a time, especially right now…” she muttered, the voice modifier on her voice crackled as she spoke. Walking back over to her computer, she unplugged Icarus’ phone and tossed it back to him as she felt her custom laptop in one hand, “Alright, so from that call and what we managed to garner from it. I picked up on a few things actually, much to your delight I’m sure.” she said with a tint of sarcasm. First, pointing at Aboleth, “Blondie is right, we did hear the sound of a train, which is important to note. So, good insight on that one, Aboleth.” Malfyre held up a finger, indicating their first point, “Second, she was in some building with a bunch of monitors in the background, most likely used as a distraction to keep us from figuring out what kind of building it was. Smart of them, but not that smart.” Malfyre held up a second figure, looking over at Icarus she spoke again, “And lastly, we do have a few days, at most. If they keep to their word, which is important to note. I’ll work on the coordinates and all the possible places she could be in, if they’ll still be there. Cuz who’s to say they aren’t on the move right now? I’ll be sure to keep you updated as I figure out more, no need for numbers, I have my ways of contacting you all.” her mask lit up indicating a small wink of the led light eyes.

And actually, proper last important note, the train. There are a few different train stations throughout Barden. At least two that are still in function, so if I were to venture a guess. Including possible other warehouses or abandoned buildings she could be in, Red Witch could be anywhere in the North end which is where the busier tracks are, or, which is my higher guess, she could be in the West end. Less traveled and more of a spot I’d think of to take someone hostage.” Kieran mumbled the last part to herself, before quickly shaking her head as she closed her laptop and held it to her chest as she nervously rocked on her feet, “But, I’ll have proper concrete evidence in the next few days, so...Until then just, sit tight and don’t do anything stupid. You try going after her alone, you could fuck it up and actually end up having her be killed, which, wouldn’t put it past them to make her an example. So just, be smart and patient. I’d do my best on this, I’ll get your friend back.

Icarus’ words only served to make Cerys’ blood run cold. If Red Witch’s life was in danger, that also meant that the rest of them could be as well. She was about to speak up and reveal what she’d learned, but then his phone began to ring. At first, she rolled her eyes, expecting it to be a false alarm. But the glimpse of the screen made her stomach twist.

There was a flurry of activity as Malfyre managed to connect his phone to their laptop, and the view confirmed Cerys’ worst fears. A hostage video, by the looks of things. The robotic way she was speaking confirmed she was being fed lines, and she just nodded as Gemini commented on it. It just made it all the more obvious when Red Witch suddenly broke away from the script and yelled at the two villains not to listen. Gemini’s arm on hers made her jump, but she didn’t tear her eyes away from the screen. It went black, and Cerys let out a shaky breath she hadn’t realised she was holding, managing a small smile at Gemini’s apology.

There was a flurry of outbursts and people talking over one another, but Cerys couldn’t help but notice that Icarus was frozen, practically rooted to the spot. Everyone else seemed to be leaping into activity, giving answers, trying to figure things out, but he was just still staring at the screen. She glanced away as Gemini turned into their male form, the shift happening without her noticing despite the fact they were standing right beside her. He seemed to get some semblance of order on the proceedings, getting people to chip in with anything that could be helpful. Aboleth had heard a train. Malfyre began discussing what they’d seen and what it meant. They mentioned that they had some details on where they were, but said it would be a few days before they had concrete evidence. Icarus almost seemed to snap to attention at that, and turned his attention to Malfyre. Cerys braced herself on seeing how his posture shifted from one of shock and emptiness to one of anger. She didn’t know much about Icarus, none of the heroes really did, but she knew that if someone like him got that angry, it generally wasn’t good.

Malfyre’s comment about not yelling at them went straight over Atticus’ head as he stared at the screen, all of his worst fears being confirmed. They had Lucy. She was being held hostage. He could see shadows in the background, presumably guards of some kind. For a few horrific moments, Att thought he was about to see his dream repeated, just from a different angle and too far away to help.

And then Lucy began to speak, her tone flat and her words not her own. Telling them to get out and stop looking, or else. They knew they’d been at the gala. Of course they did, with everything that had happened, were they even surprised? He could see Lucy stopping, beginning to think. She yelled for him and Piper not to listen, that it was a trap, but all that really seemed to sink in was the struggle that ensued and how quickly the video shut off. Somewhere in his head, he could still hear the echo of the gunshot from his vision. Malfyre walked away, going into one of the corners for a moment, before coming back.

Even as the heroes sprung into action, he was frozen. Were they already too late? Had they already killed Lucy for her insolence, for trying to warn them? Maybe he shouldn’t have let her storm off like that, he shouldn’t have called her a bitch like that, he should have gone after her-

It was only when Malfyre began talking that Att’s attention was drawn back into the room. He just about managed to catch his phone and shot them a glare as he did so. They were discussing at length everything they’d seen and what it meant. Everything they were saying seemed promising, right up until they mentioned it would be a few days and not to do anything stupid. Her tone made something snap inside him, anger rising to the surface and replacing the numbness that had been there only moments before.

“No.” The word came out forcefully and almost without him meaning to. “This might just seem like another mission to you but in case you forgot, they are going to kill her in the next few days. And after that, it’s probably sooner rather than later. So we don’t have a few days for you to sit around on your ass and figure this out. Put your fucking ego aside, stop treating this like a game, and help us now.” Malfyre’s downright flippant and patronizing attitude had somehow released all the anger he was feeling, but he didn’t care. It needed an out, and they were a convenient target. “Or else give us the fucking locations and we’ll deal with it ourselves. We can’t do any worse than you taking literal days to try and figure out where she is, because she’ll probably be dead anyway.”

“And… there’s something else.” A female voice said, and Atticus turned to look at Artemis. “I was on a run this morning when I overheard people discussing… well, discussing Red Witch. And they seemed pretty confident in the fact that you and Gemini were there last night, and… they were looking for evidence that there were others in attendance. They were going to look at our movements last night to try and identify us to confirm which of us were there.” She glanced at Gemini. “And by the sounds of it, they’ve already gotten evidence I was there. If they can confirm you guys were all there as well…”

“We could be direct targets,” Att finished, sighing. She nodded.
“I’m guessing that they only name dropped the two heroes they knew for sure were there, so directly threatened us. They don’t know for sure about the rest of you. Yet.”
“Yet,” Att echoed. He turned back to Malfyre. “So. Do you think that they’ll just ignore that knowledge, file it under “for future reference”? They probably won’t use it, they’re clearly the type of people who will do exactly what they say so why would they go trying to kill us?” He snapped. “Now you know that your life is probably also directly under threat, are you going to actually help by giving us that information now so we can do something sooner rather than later?” He asked, staring straight at them.

Adrian turned his head Aboleth spoke, saying she heard a train. She was right, there was one in the background, but Jena and Adrian must have been too distracted by the Red Witch to what it. He flashed her a smile and a thumbs up before Malfyre began talking and taking a bit of control over what was happening and giving what she thought.

What Malfyre was saying made a lot of sense, and Gemini mostly stayed quiet and just nodded. It wouldn’t be smart to head directly to wherever they were keeping Red Witch, acting on emotion and anger would cloud their thoughts and impact their actions, it was good to sit on information for a while. But he didn’t feel exactly comfortable just sitting tight, maybe even scouting out a bit at the warehouses in the north end or west end to help them prepare. But before Adrian could say anything, Icarus quickly spoke up, and not exactly in a calm manner.

Adrian… you might want to do something. Jena quickly spoke up as Gemini watched Icarus yelling at Malfyre. “Hey hey, calm down there cowboy.” Adrian said, stepping between Malfyre and Icarus a bit, hoping things wouldn’t get physical, especially with everyone’s tensions a bit higher than normal at the moment. He was a bit relieved for a moment when Artemis began talking, hoping to himself that this would distract Icarus, but the information she shared wasn’t exactly all the uplifting to the mood.

Artemis spoke about how they knew they were at the gala, which wasn't exactly a surprise as Gemini had a literal run-in with some of the guards, but confused how they knew Icarus was there. Which caused Icarus to speak up again, both Gemini able to hear the venom in his words behind them as he spoke.

“Enough. Both of you.” Adrian commented towards Icarus and Malfyre, glancing a bit at Paladin hoping he could try to keep Malfyre from pouring any more gasoline on the fire before he’d had to put it out. “Listen. We were all in danger the second these guys targeted other heroes and villains, from the second we joined forces and began working together. We know what we signed up for, including Red Witch.” He said looking around the room before stopping again on the Icarus, “But Icarus, I promise you we will get Red Witch back. No one left behind, regardless of them being a hero, or a villain. We are all in danger regardless of who they knew went to the gala.” He paused for a second as the people in the room glanced at each other. Babe, if I didn’t know better, I’d think you took a speech class before we dated. Jena spoke up, finally revealing herself to Adrian, causing him to smirk a bit.

“Anyways. Malfyre can’t just immediately track the location of the call, if it was that easy any of us could do it. But I’m assuming if she searched a smaller area, might speed up the tracking process. And with the train horn Aboleth pointed it, we can probably figure out a general area since most trains in this city run on a strict schedule. Is that right Malfyre?” Adrian finished, looking towards the hero.

Being called blondie reminded Piper that she really needed to schedule an appointment to touch up her roots. She made a mental note to do that once they got Lucy back, and she hopefully had some time to breathe. Really, Piper thought that Malfyre was just doing their job, but Atticus apparently thought that the heroes should be moving heaven and earth, and doing the impossible to get Lucy back. To an extent, she understood: Lucy was their friend, and she was in trouble. They didn’t have any time to waste, but they also didn’t have the time to rush and make stupid mistakes. Then Artimis spoke up. Piper figured that, with all the things that had gone wrong during the mission the night before, it was only a matter of time before they pinned down several of the others as being there.

Piper had decided that one half of Gemini was okay after their mission, and now, as she listened to his little speech, she was thinking that the other half might not be so bad, either. He was trying awfully hard to assure them that the heroes all considered them to be one big team, but
she had to wonder if they all felt the same. She quickly glanced around the room, even over her shoulder, where Paladin still stood. Really, she didn’t trust any of them to truly be on her side if things went south. There were a few that she figured would help her if she were in trouble, but it was hard to trust the people that had been trying to put her in prison a few weeks ago.

Piper rolled her eyes as Malfyre went on to defend themself from Atticus’ accusations. Really, it was unnecessary. They all knew Atticus was just panicked- and why shouldn’t he be? Honestly, Piper would have been lying if she said she wasn’t bothered by all of this, too. “No shit she’d be dead if they wanted her dead.” As far as Piper was concerned, viewing this thing as anything but a potential trap was stupid and dangerous- but unfortunately, if it was a trap, it was a trap they were very likely going to have to walk right into if they wanted Lucy back.

Malfyre kept talking, going over what she and Luciana had found on a computer a while back. Piper’s blood went cold: obviously, she knew that whoever was doing all of this had to have information on her, but for Malfyre to have those files, that was different. Piper glared holes into that stupid mask of Malfyre’s as they crushed a copy of the files- what was the point of that? It was clearly just for show, as if showboating would earn any trust. They assured the group they didn’t look at anyone’s files, but it didn’t sit right with Piper.

Malfyre went back to the laptop, announcing their intentions of finding Lucy. Piper didn’t want to interrupt that, finding Lucy was, obviously, going to be top priority. Before she knew it, though, she’d said, “How are we supposed to trust that you won’t use those files against us in the future?”

If it hadn’t been for the others, Dhani might have reached out for Atticus, tried to do something to comfort him. As it was, he didn’t want to draw more attention to that relationship than he needed to. He knew that Kieran wasn’t always the best with her words, but he also knew she was trying, and probably didn’t deserve to have Att go off on her like that. He never knew what to do in these situations: he wasn’t much of a leader, and even if he knew a good half of the people in the room would listen to him if he spoke, he wouldn’t know what to say. Lucky for him, Gemini decided to be the one to try to keep the peace. He noted the look Adrian shot him. If he needed to, Dhani knew he could probably physically break up any fights, and he could hopefully get Kieran to shut the fuck up if she said anything that the villians in the room would consider offensive.

Kieran didn’t need to defend herself, not really. Nobody thought she wasn’t really going to do her best (expect maybe Atticus, but Dhani could understand the desperation to find someone when they were in danger), but she still explained how it wasn’t that simple.

When she admitted to having done similar things in the past, Dhani found himself shifting uncomfortably where he stood. He didn’t like thinking about what the people he knew were capable of. He knew that everyone in this room was capable of- and more than a few of them had done- some pretty fucked up things. Kieran wasn’t wrong, though. This was about something.

Dhani wasn’t personally too worried about the files- he didn’t have much to hide from Kieran- but he was a little uncomfortable with the concept of her keeping them. It seemed like Kieran was hoping to just sweep the information about the files on them all under the rug, and she quickly went back to her computer to find Red Witch. He considered saying something- he’d called for the meeting, things got a little tense, maybe he should try to patch things up a bit, even if it was only to once-again assure Atticus that they would do whatever they could to find Red Witch.

The Aboleth spoke, and Dhani figured she had a good point. She didn’t have a single reason to trust Malfyre. “I wouldn’t worry about the files, Malfyre-”

“It’s not just Malfyre, it’s all of you. How do I know that you won’t use the files and turn on us the second all of this is over, if we don’t all die.”

Dhani didn’t know how to answer that. “Well, uh,”

“How do I know that they won’t look and decide we aren’t worth helping based on our pasts? I know you have nothing to hide other than that you’re tall and stupid, but some of us have real things that could be used against us.”

Dhani frowned, “I know you’re scared, but-”

Aboleth shook her head, “And you aren’t? Look around, guess how many people in this room I trust to have a dossier on me? I don’t trust any of you that much.”

Dhani didn’t know what to say to that; of course he was scared. None of them were fearless. “Yelling at me isn’t going to help anyone.”

Att just glared at Gemini as he stepped between him and Malfyre, telling him to calm down. They didn’t seem to understand how urgent this was, that this wasn’t him overreacting to the call. Gemini gave another one of his grand speeches, telling them how they all knew what they were getting themselves into and how they were all in danger. He knew that the hero was just trying to stop things from escalating into another fight, but he was angry. He felt that if it was a hero that had been taken, they all would have been trying much harder. But because it was one of them, it didn’t matter as much.

He stared Malfyre down as she stared at him. He wasn’t scared of her, and he wasn’t going to back down just because the heroes told him not to be so angry. Malfyre said that she didn’t want to see Red Witch dead any more than he did, but it felt hollow. He just raised an eyebrow as she said she couldn’t see any reason that they’d kill Lucy, but fresh anger burned in his throat. They weren’t taking him seriously. They still thought he was over-reacting, and now they were just trying to de-escalate the situation. “It doesn’t matter that we don’t know why they’re going to kill her. They will kill her unless we do something. That’s how it works, and I have never been wrong before.”

He might have let it slide, had Malfyre not then produced a hard drive, stating it was a copy of all of the information she had on them. He didn’t understand why she crushed it. Probably just another display of power. The only bit of information that Atticus really took from Malfyre’s little speech was that she had access to information on them, information that they’d all tried to keep buried. He was glad when Piper spoke up and said exactly what he was thinking. Malfyre said she had only looked at her own, but he didn’t fully believe that.

Dhani tried to placate Piper, but seemed to only make things worse. Att trusted Dhani, probably much more than he should have done, but the others didn’t get the same privilege. Piper made the point he was thinking. Best case scenario, they looked and viewed them all differently. Atticus knew that they all underestimated him, not knowing how dangerous he was, and if they found it out… well, he didn’t know how they’d react. He glanced at Dhani, almost subconsciously.

“We have much more to lose if our secrets, our identities are leaked. Me and Paladin burned the files we found because we didn’t think anyone deserved to have that much power. You keep saying we’re all in the same position, we’re all in danger, and then you reveal that you have compromising information on us? How are we supposed to trust you if you have that information at your disposal? All we have if your word that you won’t read it and won’t leak it and won’t use it against us.” He shook his head and ran his hand through his hair.

Artemis tensed as everyone else seemed to ready themselves for a fight, almost instinctively bracing herself into a fighting stance. But it didn’t seem to get to that, Icarus and Malfyre seeming to prefer to stick to just words for now. But a divide seemed to be rapidly growing between the group. She visibly winced as Malfyre revealed that she had information on them all, and claimed she hadn’t looked at them. Aaron seemed to believe and trust Malfyre about this, so Cerys would return the favour, but she didn’t particularly like the idea of someone having that much information on her.

Icarus and Aboleth, however, were very obviously not happy about it. And in some ways, Cerys almost didn’t blame them. Dhani tried defending Malfyre, but couldn’t quite stand up to Aboleth. The villains didn’t trust the heroes, that much was clear. Did they really have more to lose? Or did the heroes have further to fall from the podium they’d be put on?

“Listen. We can’t afford to let this come between us, and Red Witch sure as hell can’t afford it either. Trust me, I’m not totally happy about someone having that much information about me either but we need to work together, if only long enough to get Red Witch home safely. But we need to know that our secrets are safe and that nobody will use them against us. I don’t blame anyone for wanting that assurance.” She said, folding her arms. She knew that it was the villains that wanted the reassurance their secrets wouldn’t be used against them, but she also wanted to know that if the villains got their hands on the heroes’ secrets, that they’d be offered the same respect.

“So. Has anyone any suggestions? Or can we just agree to at least trust each other for a few goddamn days to save Red Witch’s life?”

Adrian was starting to get annoyed at the moment, taking a step back and pacing around the others are they continued to talk, well more so argue. He had his hands over his mask and going through his hair when Malfyre produced a hard drive, talking about her and Red Witch finding something. He was glad, it could possibly lead to making their lives easier as more information on their adversaries meant better. But when she crushed it saying it was too dangerous for any of them to see he just tilted his head in a confused fashion. I’m confused Jena spoke to Adrian, though Adrian didn’t respond, just paying attention to Malfyre as she continued to speak.

When Malfyre revealed what their enemies had on them, then Adrian started to get worried. Not entirely because their enemies had files on them as Gemini didn’t have much to hide, besides being two souls trapped within one body, but because he had a feeling the villains wouldn’t take too nicely to one of the heroes having information on them. A little glimmer of hope came up when Malfyre went back to the computer, though that was quickly dispersed when Aboleth spoke up, questioning about the files. This isn’t good, is it? Adrian just shook his head, about to step in again and attempt to calm down Aboleth.

Paladin spoke up first, trying to reassure Aboleth about Malfyre and an argument quickly coming forth, getting a bit heated between words. The female villain was making some valid points, but none of them had the answers they wanted at the moment, especially about hypotheticals coming up. But then Aboleth her tone from bringing up good points to insults. It wasn’t long until the insults, and hopefully it wouldn’t lead to that. Adrian took a step forward to speak, but the other villain spoke up this time, discussing what he and Paladin did with the information.

The arguing back and forth was starting to annoy Adrian. They didn’t have time for this, and the only thing that this would lead to would be more conflict. “Enough!” He said loudly, stepping forward, between the main people arguing. Gemini formed a small amount of water and flicked it at the main people arguing, Paladin, Aboleth, Icarus, and knowing Malfyre, a little bit at her before anything else was said. It wasn’t anything that would soak them, but just a little mist to get their attention and get them to calm down or check themselves, sort of like a spray bottle for cats and dogs. “We get it, this information isn’t just something to have laying about. And I’ll be honest, I would be cautious if Red Witch or any other villain had information on me and my partner. But that’s an issue for another time, we don’t have time for all of you to be arguing like little god damn children.” He looked around the room, pausing at the villains. “Icarus, Aboleth. I promise we will discuss this later, but our attention needs to be on Red Witch and letting Malfyre. Afterwards, we can decide on this information Malfyre has.

Adrian was breathing mostly through his nostrils and was relieved when Artemis also spoke up, mostly echoing what was being said by everyone, but as well as staying neutral. “Exactly. Now as Art said, let’s just be civil for five fucking minutes, or I might have to bring someone else out to turn up the heat.” Gemini finished, referencing having Jena come out. He let a out a deep breath as she turned around and back towards the edge of the room. “As Artemis said. Any other suggestions or ideas? Think it might be good to call it a day now, maybe even do a little recon around the areas while Malfyre works. But that’s just me.” I forgot how sexy you get when you get mad. Jena said with a giggle. “Shut up…” Adrian whispered under his breath as he leaned against a wall and waited.

Are you just gonna take that?
Make them take it all back
Don't tell me you believe that
Are you just gonna take that
Or will you fucking fight back?

Kieran was head focused on what she was doing that she initially ignored Aboleth's comment towards her about using the files against them. But the moment she began to argue with Paladin was the moment she had enough. She closed her computer, remained sitting down, but shot Aboleth a hardened glare. "You don't fucking move, pretty boy." she said in Bludwynd's direction, sending a small wave of telekentic energy his way that caused him to sit back down. "You fucking sit this one out." she said coldly, looking back at Aboleth. She wanted to fight back, tell Aboleth off and prove that she was done with all of their bullshit and how they were treating her like she wasn't trying her hardest to get their friend back from this. As much as Malfyre wouldn't admit it, Kieran wanted to get Red Witch back. She couldn't explain it, but something about this made her unnervingly nervous and uncomfortable.

Malfyre let out what sounded like a crackling hiss from their mask as what felt like water was sprayed in her general direction. "Dude! Really?? You mess this mask up, I swear to god..." her voice trailed off as she turned around, examining her mask slightly to make sure there was no water damage before she turned back around with her mask placed back over her face. Malfyre kept her focus on her breathing, if she kept her focus on herself and not everyone around her, just maybe she wouldn't kill them all in a blind fury.

Malfyre crossed her arms over her chest, foot tapping as she listened to the others continue to bicker as Gemini, in their male, water elementalist form try to settle things down. Which, she had to give him credit, he managed to do it as well as she could have hoped for. "Look..." Maflyre said softly as she took a deep and heavy sigh, keeping her fists clenched by her sides. "I'm sorry for seeming like I don't care, or that I'm not taking it seriously." she said as she looked at both Aboleth and Icarus. "I'm just...Avoiding being serious is my specialty and how I deal with high stress. Keeps me from...Bugging out, shall we say?" she said with a sigh, what was she even trying to say? She sucked at conveying anything, and god damn was it showing.

"What I'm trying to say is, I'm sorry. But I don't owe any of you shit. I easily could have not shown up, and maybe it would have been better if I didn't. But I am going to help you get her back because this whole situation involves all of us now. I don't like it any more than any of you do. But we're all in their spotlight and none of us are safe, not even me. If they find out who has the information, they'll come after me next and I am fully aware of that." Malfyre took a deep breath, clenching her jaw underneath her mask as the led lights in her mask flickered through several different emoticons until they rested on what could have been taken as a stressed expression. "I'll do what I can starting now to give you all some sort of location to start your search, like Gemini said. I work behind the scenes, what I do best, and you guys scout out the areas that I have an idea on what could be where she is, or was being held. We'll get her back, and when all of this shit is over with...I'm done. You'll be able to go back to being the heroes and villains you all so desire to be."

Malfyre crossed her arms over her chest for a moment, "And about the files? They're all encrypted and can take up to twelve hours to crack, and fuck that shit just to know who you all are. Right now, I couldn't give two fucks about who any of you are. Right now, all of our lives are in danger, and right now Red Witch is on the chopping block, clock's ticking." she tapped on the watch on her wrist as she walked back to her computer. "By the way, I already sent the locations to your devices, you'll get them in about...three seconds. You'll receive constant, in real time updates on the progress that I'm making and the information and coordinates I receive will be immediately sent to you all. The sooner we get her back, the sooner we can get all this shit taken care of, and go back to our happy little lives." Kieran put her things back into her backpack before putting it back on.

"Some of you know how to contact me, let me know if you need anything, I'll get to work as soon as I get home, and at a proper computer. And I'll send you a video of me burning the files if it makes you feel any better." Malfyre gave a small salute of her hand and began to make her way out of the warehouse. "I'll let you know what I find. Seeing as I won't be sleeping, I should get it done within twelve hours."

Piper knew that there was no way the heroes understood her stance on this. They outnumbered herself and Atticus, and several of them had bonds strengthened by years of working together. All Piper had was a flimsy relationship with her friend’s roommate. They only even trusted each other out of necessity, if she were being honest. They’d never worked together, and wouldn’t even know one another if not for Lucy. Piper would have his back here out of principal, but she wasn’t sure she could trust him to do the same. She simply didn’t know him well enough to trust that he would. That was the nature of the beast, wasn’t it? The heroes formed close bonds, friendships, and had fierce allies. What did villains get? A life in the shadows, professional contacts, and usually nothing more. Piper figured it was because of the higher burnout rate of “villainy.”

She appreciated Atticus taking her side, though she knew it was likely as much about his own privacy as anything else. When Gemini spritzed water at the group, Piper shot a glare in his direction. She understood that he wanted to keep things civil, but was that really necessary? She rolled her eyes when Malfyre complained about the mask getting wet. It seemed impractical to have a mask that couldn’t withstand the elements, but it wasn’t any of her business. It surprised her when the other heroes spoke up, seeming to understand their point of view. It made sense, really; if they were supposed to be some kind of team, they all needed to cooperate and quell each other’s fears. It was time to treat this like a business meeting instead of a high school cat fight, apparently. “I can let the files go for now, so long as it is addressed after we have Red Witch back.” Piper didn’t care if they were already destroyed by then. Apparently they all needed to have a talk about each other’s comfort levels and how soon they should disclose any sensitive findings.

Gemini suggested that they call it a day, and honestly Piper thought that might be for the best. Maybe she could take Att to lunch, see if she couldn’t get him to settle down a little. This whole situation was proving difficult for both of their nerves, and while she didn’t know him exceptionally well, she figured they could both use a friend.

Then Malfyre started talking. Piper figured that they’d never learned when to keep their mouth shut. Malfyre started to apologize for their whole attitude, and Piper was willing to relent and accept the apology: this didn’t affect them all the same way, so Piper was willing to let it go and forget about it. Then they decided to emphasize the fact that they didn’t owe any of them anything, and Piper resolved to remember that if Malfyre ever needed her help. Piper may not seem like much, but if there was one thing she was good at, it was being petty and spiteful.

“I appreciate the help. But you have to understand that Red Witch isn’t just some villain to me, she’s my friend. This is personal, and not just because we’re all in danger too.”

The line about going back to being the “the heroes and villains you all so desire to be,” really rubbed Piper the wrong way. As if she’d wanted to grow up so poor she’d had to use her powers just to have enough to eat. That was it, wasn’t it? The rest of them had enough of a choice that they didn’t see that some of them didn’t have much of one. Piper knew that most of the people in the room wouldn’t ever view her as anything but someone who used her powers to lie and steal. It shouldn't have bothered her, especially since she was pretty sure Malfyre was just lashing out because they were making the job more difficult than it “needed” to be. Piper didn’t know Malfyre well, but people weren’t very hard to read.

Piper wanted to tell Malfyre that if they didn’t want to help, then they shouldn’t bother. Instead she settled on a terse, but genuine, “Thank you.” Regardless of how they all felt about each other, at least Malfyre was helping. Piper decided to remember that, too.

She figured that Atticus would want to get to work on scouting out locations right away. “I don’t expect it, but if anyone’s willing to put in the work to help scout out locations, Icarus and I would both appreciate it.” Normally, Piper wouldn’t speak for Atticus, but she wanted to be a united front on this issue. He said he was never wrong about his visions, and she believed him.

Dhani had really wanted to get this situation under control, but like always, he didn’t have the nerve to actually stand up to the confrontation. He handled hero work just fine, but personal confrontation? That was scary. He was happy enough when Adrian stepped in (though he wasn’t sure what he did to deserve being sprayed with water), he was just all-around a better leader than Dhani could hope to be.

Dhani’s perspective on Kieran having the files wasn’t going to help anyone. He trusted that she wouldn’t do anything with them, but he figured he’d already expressed as much. Aboleth seemed willing to let it go, at least for the time, so Dhani was hopeful that things would calm down. At least on an interpersonal level.

He couldn’t tell if Kieran was trying to make things better or not with her words, but he hoped that Att and Aboleth wouldn’t take it too personally. He didn’t like the idea of the lot of them being in danger, and he wondered to himself if they would stop at putting them in danger. Whoever these people were, they didn’t seem too concerned with morality or ethics. Dhani didn’t personally have much to hide, but he did have people he’d like to be kept safe.

Kieran seemed intent on being done with the whole group after they found Red Witch, and Dhani made a note to talk to her about it later, once she’d had a chance to calm down. He still needed to apologize for yelling at her the night before; that hadn’t been fair. As it was, Kieran had something set up to send them real-time updates of her progress, which he hoped would do something to ease Atticus and Aboleth’s minds.

Dhani had to admit, he was tired. He was tired of how often all of this erupted into infighting, he was tired of not feeling safe anywhere, even in his own home. He was ready for this thing to be over and done with, one way or another.

As Kieran left, he shot a look at Aaron. One of them probably needed to check on Kieran. She could be a pain in the ass, but she was his friend.

Aboleth said that she’d appreciate help, and Dhani immediately nodded his head, “I’ll do whatever I can to help. We’re gonna find her.” He shot Atticus the most reassuring look he could manage with his mask. He wasn’t the type to give up easily, and he wasn’t afraid of a little danger. He probably should have been more afraid than he was, but he’d been through too much for this sort of thing to shake him too much.

It probably helped that he wasn’t overly attached to Red Witch.

The splash of water might have been enough to snap the others back to reality and minimise the arguing, it just brought Att back to earth and to the realisation that he felt like shit. Even if the aftermath of the vision had faded, the fact that he hadn't eaten in almost twenty four hours and hadn't slept particularly well the night before was starting to take it's toll. Throw in the anxiety and the stress of the whole situation and, well, it probably wasn't surprising he was feeling so terrible. The minute he saw an appropriate moment to leave, he did so. On the way home, he stopped to get food, texting both Dhani and Piper that he was fine. Piper and him weren't really friends, not really, but he knew she'd have his back and figured she probably deserved to know. And he'd seen the glances and reassuring smile that Dhani had been shooting him throughout the meeting. And he knew that from a logical, strategic point of view, that had been foolish, that the others mightn't react so well if they found out, that it could splinter the group. But... what was there to find out, really? Nothing had happened since they found out each other's identities. And in a hostile situation like that, where he felt so outnumbered and outmatched, it was nice to know that someone else might have your back.

The evening was spent preparing for the following day. He called in to work telling them that he wouldn't be in the following day, and decided to call in a few favors. A few sets of eyes and ears... and a bulletproof vest. With his family, he'd never needed one, because he'd always been totally in control of the situation. When he'd been acting as Icarus, he'd always made sure to meet in public areas where they wouldn't dare touch him. But this was different. He knew that almost everything about him and about his body was just as normal as anyone else, and going in unprepared would be a death sentence.

To give Malfyre their due, they did get the location figured out pretty quickly. A quick scout out around and information from his contacts confirmed there had been some unusual activity in the area. They paired up in advance, figuring that dividing and conquering was probably the best way to cover as much ground as possible as quickly as possible. He ended up being put with Malfyre, which he wasn't totally happy about, but he wasn't going to argue about it either. He knew by their reputation that they were powerful, and they'd already shown that they stuck to their word, which was really all Atticus cared about for the mission.

It felt odd, getting ready for the mission. The weight of the vest was unfamiliar and uncomfortable, while the weight of the gun at his hip was becoming all too familiar. He reached for the suit almost instinctively, slipping back into what his family had taught him too easily. He knew that it would be beneficial for this- but the thought that he really hadn't come that far at all was disconcerting. He shrugged the feeling off and made his way to the prearranged location to meet Malfyre.

Gemini flicking the water at the bickering heroes made her chuckle, but she was also hyper aware of the tense energy that persisted in the warehouse as people began to leave. It felt like the tension had been put on hold, not broken, and it was sure to emerge at the next given opportunity. Cerys just prayed that it wasn’t going to be during the mission.

Malfyre impressed her with how quickly they managed to get the information out to them. Nobody wasted any time in setting plans and groups set out for the rescue attempt, which was reassuring. The bickering didn’t seem to be getting in the way of things and they could actually do their job in peace. Even still, Cerys was glad to find herself paired up with Dhani. They hadn’t worked or even trained together in far too long, and it wasn’t like the tension would interfere with them working together.

They’d scouted out the building and had identified three potential entrances, dividing the building into thirds for each team to search, with earpieces and microphones allowing them to communicate with other teams. It was significantly more elaborate than anything else she’d ever been involved in, but she was oddly confident in the team. They’d survived and gotten themselves out of every situation they’d encountered so far, she was optimistic about this one.

She geared up and slipped along back streets and alleys to get to their designated meeting point, her bow strapped to her back and a knife up each sleeve to be safe. The adrenaline coursing through her veins had her feeling almost excited for the mission, even though she knew she should probably be more concerned or on edge. Dhani was probably going to be leaning towards the latter and would probably be serious enough about the whole thing to keep her grounded.

Adrian was relieved when the emotion in the room moved from anger and annoyance with each other to a bit more understanding. He was a bit surprised at Malfyre apologizing, though the surprise ceased a bit as she made it clear she didn’t owe the villains anything, or was it all of them in general. The conversation quickly went back to the reason they were all called here, getting Red Witch back, everyone coming to the agreement of getting Red Witch back. Though it made him think for a second whenAboleth made it known Red Witch was her friend. The mind-control villain seemed the most “nice” out of the group, and Red Witch seemed like the most evil, with the small altercations Gemini and Red Witch had in the city, but now wasn;t the time to question friendships.

It wasn’t long until more messages were exchanged between everyone about Red Witch’s location and their next move, and even quicker for them to start getting things into motion. Gemini would be with BludWynd and Aboleth. Jena was relieved that they would be working with the female villain again after their first mission, and Adrian would be lying if he wasn’t excited to work with BludWynd again, it’s been some time since they had actually fought together.

The three of them were to meet near the eastern side of the warehouse across the street and enter through the third floor. Aboleth had received some information from Icarus about their being an outside entrance that they could enter through and work their way from there. The teams wouldn’t all be entering from the same point, to give them more of an advantage of finding and getting Red Witch out. Adrian and Jena discussed a bit about who would be in charge while they were out, Jena’s fire had a bit more pros than Adrian’s water, since they knew there would be some sort of conflict.

Jena got to the location first and scoped out the area a bit, seeing much security around the building, though it wasn’t long until Aboleth showed up. “Hey there girl, hoes it going? Not much activity I noticed. But might be better security and more on the inside. While Jena and Aboleth were talking, Adrian noticed BludWynd approaching them, well more so noticed the shadows. BludWynd is here, can tell by the shift in the shadows nearby. He let Jena know. Having a second set of eyes and ears within one soul came in handy when one half was busy or distracted. “Oh hey Shadow boy, my other half says what’s up.”

Piper would be lying if she said she wasn’t nervous. As glad as she was that everyone was able to set aside their differences for this, Piper couldn’t shake the feeling that she wasn’t doing enough. Truly, she wasn’t sure what she could do, beyond what she’d already done, but she couldn’t help but think that if this went wrong, Lucy would die. There was a part of her that couldn’t help but wonder if Lucy might already be dead, and this was now nothing more than a trap for the rest of them. She kept it to herself. If there was even a chance of getting Lucy back, they’d just have to take that risk.

Three entrances, three teams, in and out, find Lucy. That was the plan, more or less. There wasn’t any room for misunderstandings, and hopefully each team could hold their own if something went wrong. Piper was glad to be working with Gemini again: she felt like she could trust them. She hadn’t had much of anything on the line when she worked with BludWynd, but he seemed alright.

Gemini was already there when Piper made it to the rendezvous point, and though she knew Gemini wouldn’t see it, Piper smiled at her greeting. “I’ll feel a lot better once we get Red Witch back,” If they get her back. When Gemini said there didn’t seem to be much activity, Piper glanced at the building, “That makes me nervous.” The last thing Piper wanted to do was walk into a trap. She tried to tell herself that having visible guards for an old abandoned building would be suspicious, but she wasn't sure bought it.

Gemini noticed BludWynd before Piper did. She supposed working with him for longer made it easier to tell when he showed up. As it was, Piper couldn’t quite wrap her head around his powers. They were incredible, and a little scary. Good for him, though, not being type-casted into a villainous role. That was more than a lot of them could say for themselves. She turned and stared at BludWynd as he arrived, almost as if she were testing to see if he’d meet her gaze. Atticus’ voice came through her earpiece first, and then Artemis. For the first time, Piper silently wondered what Luciana would think about her helping look for her. “Aboleth, Gemini and BludWynd are on site and ready to go.” There was a part of her that wanted to wish everyone luck, or remind Atticus to be careful, or thank them all for being here, but instead she just turned to look at Gemini, “I’ll try not to get us caught this time.” She joked, hoping against hope that she might make herself feel a little better about the whole thing.

Malfyre gave Icarus a small nod when he thanked her for the food. "Don't mention it." she said calmly. She listened to him as he spoke, nodding as he explained he was sorry for over-reacting and that the visions never left him feeling not scared, but whenever it involved someone close to him, she couldn't blame him. As much as she wanted to speak up, she let him continue on. It was his turn to speak, and she wasn't about to interrupt him.

Kieran left out a soft sigh as he continued to explain everything in further detail. Explaining how they felt outnumbered and felt wary of them. It made sense, even if Kieran didn't exactly fall under the hero title, she understood his point. She happened to side with them more than anyone else, so it only added to that fear. Malfyre nodded again as she looked at him, "I get it...I really do. Life is already a shitstorm, add on the fact we've been at each other's throats for no reason...Well...I'm sorry." her voice crackled from beneath the mask. She licked her lips for a moment before she heard Icarus' voice suddenly appear in her earpiece, as well as the others. "Well hello, assholes." her voice crackled as she let out a small laugh. "Paladin...Artemis..." she started as a grin formed on her lips, "Hiya. Also, Paladin. I don't think your negative attitude about me being late all the time is a good vibe to have, sir."

Malfyre looked at Icarus, "Let's get this shit done, eh? And I'll try my best to not drop from a height up place again but...No promises. Just keep your head low and I'm sure you'll be fine."

Over the next few hours that had passed, Aaron didn't know what to expect from Kieran. Seeing as her mood at the last meeting had well, been all over the place, he just didn't want to bet on one thing, while it was something entirely different. But with the way the meeting ended, and her attitude towards the end, one even he knew was genuine, he was surprised to say the least. He even sent a few texts her way later that evening to make sure she was okay and not pissed off, but after about the fifth or sixth text, he knew it was a lost cause to try and get an answer from her. She was busy with work, locked in her tunnel vision she'd get whenever she sat down in front of a computer for hours on end. He honestly wondered how she did it.

But as his phone eventually buzzed to life with messages and directions of where to go, he set out with the others. Until they came to the conclusion of one final place to check. They all agreed to go in teams for this. And he was pleasantly surprised when he was assigned to work with Aboleth and Gemini, but not dissapointed. He had worked with both sides of Gemini a few times in the past, and they were easy people to work with. As for Aboleth well, he didn't really have an opinion on her, aside from being able to tell she wasn't one for much conversation. Which, he didn't mind. The following morning he geared up, stowing away his knives in the inner pockets of his jacket, and took his mask with him as he left for the place he'd be meeting the others at.

Aaron stuck to using the shadows to travel around the city, it made travel time easier and kept him from dealing with people as walking would have provided him. He silently stepped out from the shadows he formed together and gave the others a small nod as he folded his arms across his chest after he put the earpiece in its proper place, hearing the others confirm they were in place and ready to go. "Ready to go when you are." Aaron finally spoke up, breaking the silence from his end. There was a short pause before another voice sounded in his ear, "Oh look who actually showed up!" Aaron rolled his eyes at the voice, "Like you're one to talk. Lemme guess, ran a bit late today?" Aaron teased back. There was another short pause, "I hate you." the voice crackled before going silent again. Aaron chuckled and shook his head before looking at his temporary companions, "Want me to go first or...?" he asked with a raised eyebrow before giving a small nod, "I'll go first...Yeah..." he stammered out as Aaron looked around once more, before using his abilities and disapearing from sight, before reappearing close by the buildings' edge where a darker patch was due to the siding of the building. Giving just enough for him to work with. Aaron placed his hand against the cold ground below, shadows slowly spreading out from under his fingertips as they stretched along the pavement.

This allowed for him to feel for any vibrations or movement that they couldn't see with their own eyes, acting as almost a form of echolocation. He could sense a few vibrations within the building, but they were a lot farther away, which gave them more than enough time to get inside. Aaron finally looked back up to the others as he gave them a nod to signal for them to make their way over and find a proper way inside.
