Blood manipulation is a power most people look down on since it is seen as dangerous and scary, but this just makes Luciana love it more. Lucy can manipulate her own blood through an open wound to creature objects and items, like small weapons or a small shield. Though while these constructs are made from blood, they are as durable and sturdy as some metals, but over a longer period it starts taking a bigger toll on her. Most of the time she uses this to intimidate others, though she has had to toe to toe against some heroes during conflicts.
Along with using her own blood, Lucy is able to manipulate blood of others. For example if there was a pool of blood, she would be able to manipulate it like it was her own blood but it only limited to the amount of blood there is and while it would take less effort it wouldn’t be as strong as using her own blood. Another benefit of her power, Lucy could theoretically heal others. She is able to clot blood and slow down a person’s bleeding, though she doesn’t do this often as it takes a significant amount of energy and isn’t exactly her style.

Along with her blood manipulation, Luciana tends to heal faster than most people with powers and this enables her to use her powers longer without being fatigue.

Luciana use to be your typical teenager, not caring much in the world about herself and listening to music, but after being called an abomination by her parents and forced to runaway and heroes trying to lock her up for a mistake, she tends not to be closed off to others, only trusting a few people over the last couple years. Lucy has learned that no one else really cares about you and even working with other villains have their own motives but still working when they have similar interests, like dealing with heroes. She isn't the worse villain out there, she won't purposely go out and try to harm people for her own entertainment, even though news articles about the Red Witch would say otherwise. Though she doesn't care who she scares or even hurts when using her powers to get what she wants.

Luciana is very closed off of people, mostly caused by not wanting to be hurt again by someone. Due to this she is sarcastic to people and if someone tries to get close to her she will push them away quickly, though this doesn't mean she won't flirt with girls as a game and see their reactions.

When she puts on the mask of the Red Witch to be a villain, she tends to be a bit more sinister and chaotic. The Red Witch knows she is feared by the people of Barden, blood manipulation tends to do that. She could be robbing a bank with a group but see a little kid and taunt him with her blood, spewing lies and showing off her power to instill fear into him and anyone watching. Because of this she tends to be well known among the heroes as well for tormenting "their" city, and while this is bad for most villains, she takes it as a compliment and as revenge - she didn't need to be this way if they didn't do her wrong.

Luciana was an only child of two very anti-supernatural people, believing and even pushing into Luciana's mind that anyone with powers is bad and should be locked up or kept on a very short leash by humans to prevent them from "attacking our way of life." The night Lucy's powers first manifested and showed itself was the last night she saw either of her parents, after a rather brutal and gore-y altercation. Since then she hasn't even thought where her parents might be or if they are even alive, especially her father.

Her father, Robert Morrison, served in the military for a time being but got out for two reasons, her had met Luciana's mother, and they were starting to recruit more people with powers and Robert felt like he was being replaced and after a few altercations he was given the choice to leave or serve jail time. Luckily he had been saving up and investing so he wouldn't have to worry about money too much. This was all the start of him

Luciana's mother, Cheryl Morrison, maiden name Aituen, met Robert when he was on vacation at a diner. Robert over heard Cheryl talking to a coworker about some of the "great" things the heroes in the city have doing, but sarcastically and bringing up all the collateral damage. The two quickly hit it off and Robert got out of the military to settle down with her and start a family.

Luciana had a normal childhood growing up, neither of her parents had any sort of powers or abilities so besides seeing heroes “saving” the city on the news she didn’t have much exposure to the world of powers, though her parents were always talking about there should be some sort of regulation and law enforcement against people with powers.

During Luciana’s junior year of high school her life changed, the day that her powers reveled themselves. While helping her mom cook dinner, Lucy accidentally cut her finger with a knife and started bleeding. When this happened her blood dripped out slowly and them began to make a stream that she realized she could control. Her mother saw all of this and freaked out, calling her daughter a freak and an abomination. Luciana tried to explain that she wasn’t like other people with powers and that she was still her daughter. Her father came to see the commotion and saw what was going on. She tried to plea wither her parents to stay but when her father hit her, her vision with red and the next thing she knew was she has a knife made from her own blood stabbed into her father’s stomach. When this happened, her mother ran out screaming and called the cops. Lucy ran to her room and through clothes into a bag before climbing out the window and just started running.

Over the next year she lived off the streets until she met a hero when she was shop lifting from a gas station. He stopped her and tried to explain why she shouldn’t do bad things and all the good super hero things. Lucy confessed to him what happened, thinking he would help her because that’s what heroes would do right? Well he quickly took her to other heroes where they talked about locking her up for what she did and calling her a villain. She tried to tell them she wasn’t evil but like her own parents, they weren’t listening. Luckily during this, one of the walls blew out and villains started attacking the heroes. One of the heroes attempted to detain her with ice and turned his attention back to the villains, but when the explosion happened a piece of shrapnel cut her arm. Lucy quickly used her powers to break out of the ice and run off, running for the second time in her life.

Later that night while she was getting ready to fall asleep in an alley way, a group of people approached her. Luciana quickly used a piece of glass to cut her arm and start blood flowing around her. The group quickly told her they saw her escape and want to help her, want her to embrace her power and not be held by so called heroes. At first Luciana didn’t believe them but realized what they were offering was better than her current life she accepted. She joined this group, group of villains, and Luciana Morrison quickly became a villain herself. She worked with this group for a couple years before she got bored and moved to Barden to start a new life, but a life as a villain still just under a different alias.

It didn’t take long for Lucy to get a foothold in Barden, learning the ins and outs, who the heroes were in this city and quickly finding the villains and letting herself be known to them.

So begins...

It was a slow walk back to his apartment; Dhani wasn’t in much of a hurry to get home, he didn’t have anything to do for the rest of the evening besides eat some dinner and sort through his mail. Real exciting stuff, especially after the mission he’d just run. He decided to text his sister on the way home: his date had been fine. Yes, he was cute. No, you can’t have more details. Just because she’d married a boring guy didn’t mean she got to know every detail about his life
Especially when it was a lie. He knew she was just excited, because Dhani couldn’t remember if he’d ever gone on an actual date. He’d used it as an excuse to go fight crime sometimes in high school.

Dhani felt at home before he even made it to the stairwell, and he was glad. He wanted to take a shower, rest, get some sleep. There was going to be a lot of work in the coming weeks, and he wanted to try to be ready for whatever that meant for him.

He considered stopping by Kieran’s to make sure she had something to eat, but he figured she would have already raided his fridge if she didn’t, so it was probably best to just leave her alone. She could get weird about people in her space, so he opted to head to his own apartment and leave her alone. She complained about Dhani being too protective and told him to stay out of her business, and then she complained when he gave her space because she could handle things herself, and he generally didn’t know what she wanted from him. Sometimes it was just better to avoid her.

He didn’t get the vibe that something was wrong until he turned on the lamp by the door. Red Witch was sitting on his kitchen counter, staring right at him.

She scared the shit out of him.

Dhani jumped backwards, knocking over the lamp, which came unplugged and rolled- almost comically- across the floor. Dhani may have been able to find some humor in the situation if he hadn’t been confused and scared. The lightswitch was across the room, which was why Dhani had the lamp by the door, but it still only took a few full strides to reach. Red Witch started talking right away, immediately being condescending. He ignored her question about what to call him, instead he asked, “What are you doing here?” She made a quip about stopping by for coffee, and Dhani rolled his eyes. “I prefer for my guests to use the door.” Then she broke his coffee pot. He sighed, deeply. This was ridiculous, he’d done nothing to deserve this treatment. “Just tell-”

Red Witch interrupted him, and told him why she’d come. It was because of Atticus. Dhani wanted to say there was nothing there, nothing to even be upset about. Then he remembered the promise to text Att that he’d made it home safely, and he knew that wasn’t something you asked a professional acquaintance to do. She threatened him, then, and that didn’t sit well with Dhani. He’d never enjoyed being threatened, and threats really never did much to deter him from something if he was determined to do it. Dhani wanted to ask her exactly what she meant, try to get her to tell him what she knew, and how, because he really wasn’t about to take this lying down.

Then Kieran walked in. She had the worst timing imaginable. Dhani frowned at her when she said he probably deserved whatever was coming. A part of him knew that Kieran was just trying to placate Red Witch, but that didn’t make it any less upsetting to have your friend say you deserved to have your home broken into and your life threatened after you just spent your time being shot at. Real great way to end his evening. When Red Witch threatened Kieran, he internally cursed her. Honestly, he could handle getting a little roughed up, he’d probably be fine. But Kieran? Even if she would be fine, Dhani wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he felt it was his fault she’d gotten hurt. Thanks to Kieran’s intrusion, he felt compelled to comply with Red Witch’s deal, and she’d known he would. Didn’t stop her from breaking his light and practically throwing a chair at him, though, which was both rude and unnecessary.

Kieran kept the glass from shattering on the two of them, which Dhani appreciated, even if it wasn’t fully necessary; he would have been fine. Then Kieran turned and started to berate him. Excuse me? He felt defensive right off the bat, “I didn’t do anything! She broke in here unprovoked and-” He stopped when Kieran said his name, being held in place with her powers wasn’t needed to get his attention, but she did it anyway. He listened to her words, and he felt heat rising across his face. Really? She was so focused on how this was his fault? Red Witch had broken into his apartment, threatened him, and Kieran was upset that she’d had to come “save” him? He would have been fine on his own.

When Kieran used her powers to fling him up to the ceiling, and then back to the floor, it just seemed to rub some salt into the wound. Dhani got the point: he was in this on his own. He stood up slowly as Kieran talked about her mission, all the amazing information she’d uncovered. My mission went terribly, he thought to himself, we found your file, though. Thanks for asking, you’re such a great friend. When Kieran left, he set his lamp back up, and plugged it in, mumbling, “I didn’t ask for your help.” When the light turned on, he looked around the apartment. He had some cleaning to do.

He just wanted to go to sleep.

Cerys and Aaron’s mission, unsurprisingly, turned out to be a total bust. The guy stopped only to buy flowers, before heading home to his very normal house. But Cerys did, at least, get twenty bucks, a round of drinks, and a few stories about Malfyre out of Aaron for her troubles. She told Aaron the truth, that she was curious about this mysterious figure who was neither hero nor villain, but still seemed to side with the heroes from time to time. She respected that he couldn’t say that much. He needed to protect their identity, and honestly, she would have hoped that he’d do the same if Malfyre started asking about her.

News eventually filtered through that a number of suspects were going to be attending a masquerade ball in the city in a few week’s time. It was a private affair, but Malfyre had managed to get them all on the list. Under pseudonyms, of course. Cerys honestly thought that Persephone Rothschild was far from the worst, especially because it was believable. Some of the others, Malfyre had clearly had fun with their names and had toed the line of believability. But the ball presented one major issue for her. She couldn’t use her bow. She couldn’t conceivably smuggle in any weapons, which meant she’d have to improvise if she came down to it. But her siblings had trained her plenty in hand-to-hand, and she’d been paired up with Gemini. She knew it was probably only a matter of time before she ended up getting stuck with Red Witch, but she just prayed that day never came.

She’d agreed to meet Gemini in there, but couldn’t see them when she arrived. Apparently, they were coming as their male form, but she couldn’t see either of them. So she stuck to the crowds, searching for a semi-familiar face as she took a glass of the free champagne. It was more for appearance than anything else, she didn’t want to cloud her senses. She fished her phone out of her clutch and texted Aaron.

To: Aaron
you here yet? come quick before all the free champagne is gone :P

She felt someone barrel into her, almost knocking off her feet. Her balance was off in the heels, so it took her a millisecond longer than usual to recover. But there was strong hands grasping her as she recovered. She didn’t recognize this man. He was too short and the wrong build to be anyone she was working with, and so she flashed them a charming smile.

“Are you alright there, miss?” He asked as he released her.
“Yes, thank you. Just was distracted there for a moment,” she said with a light laugh.
“Easy to do. These receptions are always so busy, these things happen. Are you enjoying yourself?” He asked.
“Oh, yes, it’s been lovely so far.”
“Did you come all by yourself?” The question seemed out of the blue, and Cerys examined the man for a moment, trying to figure out his intentions.
“Oh no, my friends are coming too. I just live the nearest so I got here first, they’re going to be here any minute now,” she said, her light tone not giving away the suspicion bubbling in her stomach.
“Maybe I should keep an eye on you until they arrive. Just to make sure you don’t have any more mishaps,” he said, taking a step closer.
“I’m a grown woman, I can handle myself just fine.” Her polite facade was starting to drop. She wasn’t sure if this guy suspected something or if he was just being a creep, but she was starting to think he wouldn’t back down. This wasn’t what she wanted, and she knew it could potentially complicate things later. But punching him would definitely garner unwanted attention, and that would be worse.

When Dhani didn’t text him the night after their mission, Atticus wasn’t quite sure how to process it. He was more worried than he was willing to admit, but didn’t want to dwell on it. But then he got a text the following morning, and it was off his mind. Even though he knew there was nothing normal about their relationship, texting Dhani felt like an oasis of normal in everything else. When his day to day life was too boring, it was something to keep him occupied. When things felt a tad overwhelming, it was something normal, just texting a guy he liked. But with Lucy determined to have everything ironed out for this ball, it was next to impossible to figure out a way to see him in person. Him and Lucy had been entrusted with trying to distract and occupy a number of people while some of the others went snooping around, and it required a significant amount of planning and
 well, rehearsal.

Getting ready for the masquerade ball or whatever it was took more effort than Att really wanted to put into it. It needed a new suit and a mask that wasn’t just the same one he wore as Icarus. He wasn’t going as Atticus Hawkins, though. He was going as William Alexander Goldberg-Jameson III, and that required a slightly different look. He didn’t think for a second anyone would recognize him anyway, but he wasn’t taking a chance. So his suit was perhaps a little more out there than usual, and his mask was elaborate. But as he got dressed that evening, making sure to look as polished as possible, he felt like he wasn’t totally looking at himself when he looked in the mirror. He looked like a different version of himself, and that was what he wanted. Into his inside pocket went his knives. He hadn’t gotten another gun yet. He kept putting it off, coming up with different reasons why knives were a better solution all round.

He’d tried to force visions about the ball on a number of different occasions, but every single time, he saw something entirely unrelated. Eventually he gave up, the emotional and physical toll just too much. He didn’t know if knowing or not knowing was better. If he had seen something, would he have even been able to change it?

Atticus and Lucy made their way to the hotel by limo, Lucy insisting that there was no way in hell they were just getting a taxi. They had an image to portray and they were going to stick to it. Att was on edge the whole time, but did enjoy the luxury of the limo and the attention they got as they stepped out was oddly wonderful. Delighted gasps and eyes that scanned them from head to toe and liked what they saw. Whispers about her dress, his suit, their masks. With their masks on, nobody could or would ever recognize them, and there was something thrilling about that. Att had slipped in his earpiece in the taxi, the mic already concealed in his mask.

“Icarus and Red Witch are on site,” he said, moments before they entered the main room together. He could feel eyes turn towards them as they entered, and he smiled. There was a power and a thrill in pretending to be someone else

Luciana quickly got back to the apartment, shortly after Atticus and glad to see he did pick up food, even though it wasn’t pizza. The two briefed each other on how their missions went, Lucy obviously leaving out the part about going through Malfyre’s phone and stopping by Paladin's place to give him a warning. Att wouldn’t exactly be happy if he found out what she did, so she just had to hope Paladin would keep his mouth shut.

The heroes and villains got together again, discussing all they found as a group. Red Witch rolled her eyes at Artemis coming up with nothing, nudging Aboleth and saying out loud she wasn’t surprised that the dead weight of the group came up with nothing, loud enough for the hero to hear. She just smirked under her mask as the hero shot her a glare. After everyone revealed what they got, the plan came together about infiltrating a sort of gala fundraiser going on, Malfyre coming up with names for everyone.

Luciana gave Atticus a fist bump as they would be on the distraction team. It was better than sneaking around and she could have some fun since it would be a party. Her only job was to have a good time and then get eyes on her and Atticus, which she a few things in mind. Luciana quickly dismissed herself from the meeting as the main points got talked about, since it was a Monday and Bachelor would be on tonight so she had better things to get to.

Lucy quickly brought her plan of distraction to Atticus the next day and the two got to work on making sure it would go well, something she was actually excited for. It didn’t take long for the two of them to decide on a color palette and then each of them going off to find their outfits. Emerald and chocolate would be their colors and after a day of shopping Luciana was excited that their outfits and mask went well together. Though she was having trouble thinking of a way to cover up her scars until Atticus suggested she wear gloves, which she loved the idea of and quickly found some green lace opera gloves.

The day of the gala Lucy spent the majority of the day getting ready. It didn’t take her long to get her dress ready, but she did spend more time on her hair and make-up. She did think about letting her hair flow and possibly curl it, but after swiping through pinterest she decided to go with an up-do as it would keep her hair out of the way and would go well with the occasion, and still allowed for a few strands of bangs that would look good over her mask. Also she rarely wore her hair up when not as a villain so the likeliness of anyone putting together that Luciana Morrison is Red Witch would still be low.

As for her make-up, Luciana went with her usual raccoon eye look, but keeping the shade to blend with her mask and a bit of green eyeliner to pop, and sticking with the classic 999 red lipstick as it popped with the green and brown.

It was of course Luciana’s idea to get a limo, as the beautiful Amethyst Marie Luworen and handsome William Alexander Goldberg-Jameson III wouldn’t show up in any less of a fashion. Those were the names Malfyre had given to the villain team, and Lucy going a bit further with their back story, wanting to have a little bit of fun with what Malfyre gave them. Atticus rolled his eyes as they went downstairs and saw the limo. “Honey, what else do you expect from us?” She said with a smile.

It didn’t take them long to get to the venue and Luciana basked in the attention as their driver opened the door for Atticus and her to step out, holding onto his arm as the two walked inside. It was beautiful inside, everything and more that she had expected.

As the two of them started to enjoy themselves with a few glasses of champagne and hors d'oeuvres, Atticus whispered to her that the others had arrived. Lucy wasn’t wearing any communication device as it would be too noticeable with her look, so her partner would need to convey any information to her. She glanced around and saw some of the others, doing a little wave to Aboleth as she saw them with BludWynd. Lucy turned her head in and whispered into Atticus’ ear. “You lead whenever ready for our distraction
just don’t step on my toes.”

As soon as everyone agreed they were good to go, Atticus took a deep breath. The band began to play a song, and Atticus nodded at Lucy, taking her hand and leading her to the dance floor. People’s eyes were drawn to them as they stepped out, and out of the corner of his eye, he could see someone slipping away down a corridor. But he couldn’t afford to be watching for the others now. He needed to concentrate on this because if he messed it up for them, Lucy would almost definitely kill him.

Luciana was taking a sip of champagne when she felt Atticus pull on her hand, quickly setting her drink down and walking behind him, heels clicking loudly on the floor as they headed towards the center of the room. As they parted through the crowd, Att held his hand out and Lucy came close to him. “Don’t think about it, just let it flow.” She said in a whisper to him. She didn;t doubt Atticus’ ability to lead this, probably one of the few people she actually trusted in the city, and she knew if he did mess this up, he wouldn’t exactly be sleeping easy.

He took a deep breath as they got into hold, nodding ever so slightly at Lucy’s instruction. They’d practiced enough, he had to trust himself and Lucy. And besides, he told himself, she had to do most of the work.

He’d never been much of a dancer, but this dance was one hell of a way to start. He had no idea how or where Lucy had found it, but it was striking enough to work. As he lifted Lucy into a spin, he could see that almost all eyes were on them, exactly what they’d wanted. Malfyre and Dhani would have big shoes to fill. It also made them stand out enough that Att and Lucy’s targets would surely want to talk to them at some point.

The final move was perhaps the most worrying, as he’d dropped her more than once in the apartment. But he held her strong, and applause burst out through the room. He pulled her back upright with a relieved smile.

Luciana smiled as Atticus took the first step and they began. This is what she was looking forward to for the whole night, could care less about their mission. But the attention of everyone and their eyes on her, giving her the rush of adrenaline she had been craving lately. There could be some worry about her or her partner messing up or skipping a step, but she knew that they wouldn’t, just had a feeling, regardless the number of times Atticus dropped her on her back

As they went through the steps, Luciana was scanning the crowd, keeping an eye out for their targets as well as seeing if any of the heroes were around, and her eyes quickly finding and setting on Paladin, he had a unique look so it wasn’t hard to find him. And the woman next to him in a long and revealing black dress had to be his partner, Malfyre.

When the final step came up, Luciana looked into Att’s eyes and smiled, knowing he wouldn’t drop her this time. And when he leaned her down she just continued smiling as he didn’t drop her on the ground. As Atticus pulled her back up, she locked eyes with Dhani, smirking with the round of applause that came from the crowd.

Lucy heard a question come from a woman in the crowd. As she walked back to her partner. “Oh, he's my fiancĂ©.” She said loudly, running her hand across Atticus’ face and pulling him in for a kiss, knowing the hero was watching.

The comment about him being Lucy’s fiancĂ© was nothing new. They’d agreed that was their cover story from the moment they’d started plotting for this event. But when she pulled him in for a kiss, he had to stop his immediate impulse to pull away. That could give them away. So instead he broke away after the shortest acceptable amount of time, giving her a look. They both knew what it meant, but it wouldn’t be overly harsh to any onlookers. “We’re going to talk about that later,” he said quietly. But now, they needed to target their respective individuals. It was as he turned to scan the crowd in search of his mark that he spotted Dhani. Dhani had to have seen that. But
he had to know it was a distraction tactic, right? He made a mental note to try and talk to Dhani about it later. But they had a job to do first.

After their mission (which, while it was deemed a success, Piper wished it had gone better), there was just the matter of waiting for the next meeting. The information led them all to a masquerade ball; honestly, attending a ball of any kind felt a bit like a childhood dream come true, but this would be a job, and there would be no prince charming to sweep Piper off her feet. Instead, she would be there with BludWynd, and she didn’t know much about him.

They were really just meant to be backup; hold back, look out for trouble, neutralize it (peacefully, if possible) if you see any. It made sense to put Piper in this group, and she didn’t mind taking a more passive role at all. Running for her life and fighting enemies were not her ideas of a nice evening. But Piper had decided that if she was going to a ball, she was going to look stunning. She spent plenty of time “shopping” around for her dress and mask, until she was happy with her choice.

Getting ready for the ball was massively simplified by the fact that she didn’t need to wear much makeup, just a little around her eyes. She’d hidden a communicator in her mask, made sure her ear piece wasn’t too obvious, and she was ready to go.

She gave them her fake name at the door: Clementine Antoinnette Abernathy. It was a bit of a mouthful, but at least she didn’t have to contend with anything particularly ridiculous or obnoxious. She could thank Malfyre for that, at least.

The venue was beautiful, elegantly decorated, the music was lovely. Piper felt a bit of envy bubble up within her. The fact that people lived like this, threw these parties and plotted to kill people like her, all while she’d grown up with barely enough to survive, it made her a little angry. They couldn’t see that they were likely contributing to the conditions that made people with powers turn to crime, or at the very least, they weren’t doing anything to lessen the spread. Perhaps she was just trying to legitimize the things that she’d done, but she really felt like the people in that room (at least, the ones whose names weren’t added to the list by a particularly skilled hacker) were really blind to the real issues of their city. Piper may not have grown up in Barden, but she had grown up close enough.

Piper met up with BludWynd by the edge of the room. It had taken a little work to find a spot where they could keep an eye on most of the area, but when they did, they locked it down. Piper didn’t have a whole lot to say, and most of his attempts at conversation were met with one or two word responses. She wasn’t here to make friends, least of all with a hero, no matter how well he cleaned up. She managed to spot Red Witch through the crowd, there with Icarus. If she didn’t know better, even she could have been fooled by them. They made quite the couple. Piper returned Red Witch’s wave with one of her own, lifting her hand and wiggling her fingers. She would have smiled, but no one could see it, anyway, so she didn’t see the point. Then she crossed her arms and looked around, trying to remember the gist of who and where everyone was. Piper was fairly sure the different groups would be fine on their own, but she couldn’t reasonably relax until she knew everyone had accomplished their goals. Then Red Witch and Icarus started dancing, and Piper couldn’t help but wonder how long they’d practiced that.

She joined in with the applause when they’d finished. That was some distraction. She knew there was another one due any time, and she leaned over to BludWynd, “Malfyre and Paladin are your friends, right?” She kept her voice low, only he would hear her over the music and the chatter. She rested a hand on his arm, fairly sure it would look like flirting to a casual observer, “Do you know what they’re planning? I’d like to keep an eye out for it in case something goes wrong.” It was, perhaps, not the vote of confidence they would want; but between how easy he had been to command, and his track record, Piper wasn’t sure Paladin could reasonably pull any sort of mission without there being horrible consequences.

To escape the world, I've got to enjoy that simple dance
And it seemed that everything was on my side
Blood on my side
She seemed sincere like it was love and true romance
And now she's out to get me

Luciana just smiled as Atticus said they would talk about the kiss later, not really caring. She had done their job of being a distraction for Artemis and Gemini to sneak off, and she got a little extra with the kiss. As the crowd began to disperse and Att walked away, the two of them now had to focus on smaller targets, to make sure they didn’t go patrolling around and give the heroes some time. Lucy found her target quickly as he was starting his patrols around the room and possibly heading towards one of the hallways soon possibly. She flipped her hair out of her face as she slightly increased her step to go talk to him.

Before Red Witch could get to her target, she accidently bumped into a large man, almost spilling his drink. “Oh I’m so sorr-.” She stopped dead in her sentence when she looked up and saw who she bumped into, someone that she immediately recognized. Colton Underwood. He was the most recent Bachelor from the show she would watch on a weekly basis and keep up on all social media platforms. Lucy was brought out of her initial shock when he spoke to her. “Oh, no no, it’s my fault. Wait, weren’t you the one that just danced out there? That was truly amazing.” He said with a smile.

Lucy just giggled a bit to herself, trying to stay cool. “I, uh. Yeah It was, thank you. You’re Colton right? From the Bachelor?” She asked. Colton quickly confirmed what she already knew. An actual bachelor, in person. Oh my god
She thought to herself before he spoke again. “You were amazing out there, may I have the name of the beautiful woman I just saw dancing.” Lucy started to blush as she complimented her. “I’m Luciana-” She quickly stopped herself, but it was too late, she had already said her name and couldn’t backtrack to the names they were supposed to be given.

“That’s a beautiful name. May I get you a drink?” Colton spoke up, holding out his hand to Luciana. She had to take a few deep breaths from freaking out, and nodded and took her hand. Luciana lowered her head, in an act to seem as well as not to freak out. As the two of them walked, she saw Piper across the room and pointed to the man leading her, mouthing out a single word. "Bachelor." And just smiled before disappearing behind the crowd.

Lucy was about to ask if he had a date tonight, but quickly remembered that the other week him and Cassie had a falling out after she caught him cheating on her with one of her friends, who was also married, so it made sense why he wasn’t asking about her fiancĂ© that she just danced with. “So Mr. Underwood, wh-” She began to talk before he interrupted her. “Please, just call me Colton.” Lucy just nodded. “Okay Colton. What are you doing at an event like this?” She was genuinely curious, as well as wanting to make some small talk.

Colton let out a bit of a chuckle. “ABC network producers want me here to show some face and get some connections for next season, I’m getting a pretty good pay day out of it so I say it's worth it.” He said as he handed her a glass of champagne. “Plus I got to meet a pretty little lady named Luciana.” Lucy giggled. “Please, call me Lucy.” She said with a smile, giggle, and a wink. The two continued to talk, laugh, and drink. Colton exchanging some untold stories from the show and Luciana playing the pretty girl and loving every second of the bachelor's attention.

It didn't take long to identify the woman he was supposed to be distracting. She was trying and failing to give off a certain image. She was just a little too old for a dress that was a little too tight, the curls already starting to fall out of her hair, and her lipstick already a little smudged from the champagne glass in her hand. But she gave off an aura of power, and Atticus knew that judging her based on her appearance would be a very foolish thing to do. This woman was dangerous, and she was influential in this whole scenario. He was only supposed to distract her, but he knew that she would be a vital source of information.

He was right in thinking that she would stop to talk to him. It would be an easier way to initiate a conversation rather than having to come up with an excuse to talk to her. She smiled as she saw him walking past, stopping him with a gentle touch on her arm. Her perfume was not unpleasant but it was overwhelming.

"Aren't you the young man that danced so wonderfully a few minutes ago?" She asked.
"Yes ma'am. William Goldberg-Jameson, a pleasure to meet you," he said, taking her hand and gently kissing it. Her smile was one of a woman who was used to being treated with such respect. Flattery would get him nowhere with this woman, she was far too used to receiving it. He'd need to be someone she was interested in.
"You really put on a show for us, it was refreshing to experience such a thing. So tell me, what brings such an... interesting man as yourself to this wonderful event?" She asked. She evidently could read him as well as he could read her, which would be an issue. Lying would be much harder.
"Well, my fiancée simply insisted on coming. She loves any opportunity to dance and show me off, and see if she couldn't find some worthy causes to interest her," he said. "And of course, I was only too delighted to attend." It was a veiled version of the truth, and one she seemed to swallow easily.
"How lovely for you. What business are you in?" She asked.
"Oh, she dabbles in whatever interests her and always seems to turn a profit," he said with a small laugh. "And I... well, my family has more... specialised interests. One of our ventures is... private security," he said, hoping she would take the bait. And she did.
"Indeed. You know, William, I've been interested in hiring some more... security agents for one of my own enterprises. I'd love to discuss this more at a later date. I don't talk business at these events- after all, that's not why either of us are here, is it?" She asked with a laugh. Bingo.
"Absolutely. Allow me to give you my number and you can call me at any point. I'm sure we can come to some... agreement. I think you'll find our staff are very suitable for your interests. They're highly... specialised. Excuse me, do you have a pen?" He asked a passing server, who produced one from her apron and handed it to him. "Thank you." He took a napkin and scribbled down a number belonging to a burner phone he'd acquired a few years ago and handed it to her. Tracking it would lead to nothing about him. She took the napkin and smiled.
"I look forward to talking business," she said. The conversation was clearly over, and Atticus just prayed it had been long enough to distract her. He turned around and instinctively scanned the room... where he spotted Lucy batting her eyelashes at some guy that was definitely not her mark.

Att had to resist the temptation to storm across the room, knowing that would draw attention to them. That was, until the very guy Lucy was supposed to be distracting almost walked into Atticus, his phone pressed to his ear. It was too late to intervene. He made his way across the room, his eyes fixed on Lucy. She’d jeopardised the entire mission just to talk to some guy that looked like he had a sum total of about three brain cells, and two of them were taken up with worrying about his hair. They’d probably only avoided disaster thanks to sheet dumb luck. He didn’t even try to fake pleasantness as he reached them. “We need to talk. Now,” he ordered, not even acknowledging the other guy. He tried to say something, but Att just shot him a glare. “Don’t you have some mirror to fix your hair in?” He snapped. The guy apparently got the message and sauntered off, shooting a wink at Lucy. Att stormed off in the other direction to a quiet hallway where they wouldn’t be overheard. “What the fuck do you think you’re playing at?” He snapped.

Luciana was batting her eyes through the masquerade mask and giggling when she noticed Atticus walk up, but before she could say anything he quickly demanded to talk to her. Colton quickly spoke up. “Is there an issue here?” But Lucy noticed the glare from Atticus and sighed as he said a rude remark. “Hey!” Lucy tried to speak up but Att was already pulling her away, she gave Colton a last little smile and wave before he was out of sight and the two villains were down the hallway. He quickly spoke to her, with a little bit of hostility in his voice. “I’m not playing at anything. Do you know who that was? Colton Underwood.” Lucy said as she crossed her arms and stared at Att.

Att just rolled his eyes as Lucy said who it was. He knew the name, of course he did. He’d spent enough time talking shit about the show just out of her reach to not know who it was. “I don’t give a shit, Lucy. If he’s here, that means he could very well want people like us dead. And what I do give a shit about is that you were too busy fluttering your eyelashes at him instead of doing what you were supposed to do. I just ran into the guy you were supposed to distract, and he had very obviously not been distracted. Care to explain yourself? he asked.

As she listened, Luciana did remember she was supposed to distract a certain individual and she did start to feel bad for getting side tracked herself, but she didn’t need Att to come at her so aggressively, which she didn’t appreciate. “Okay Att. First off, he’s here because the producers from last season wanted him here, to get some funding for the show.” She said, taking a step closer to Att. “I’m sorry for getting side tracked and trying to take some time to relax, but atleast I’m not out here fucking heroes in my spare time.” Lucy said with venom behind her words, poking her finger into his chest. “Now if you’re done being a little bitch about things
” She said turning back, but Atticus stopped her, grabbing her wrist.

Att just raised his eyebrows as Lucy managed to drag Dhani into it, rolling his eyes a little. She tried storming away, but he grabbed her wrist. “We’re not done here, Lucy. You talk so much shit about me and Dhani but we haven’t once compromised the mission. First you kissed me, which was something we hadn’t discussed, and which was totally unnecessary. And before you say it was just trying to sell our story, we both know that’s bullshit. A kiss on the cheek would have worked just as well. I know you did that to try and spite Dhani. And you need to grow the hell up and get over that,” he snapped.

Luciana jerked her hand free of Atticus. “Never once compromised a mission? I recall you freezing up when you saw his face at the warehouse. And yeah I kissed you to spite him. I’m looking out for you Att. And what does it matter to you about him?” She asked. “He’s been ignoring you, time to just forget about him. Get your head back on what matters and out of dumb wild fantasies.” Lucy rolled her eyes. Since she threatened Dhani they should have been talking less.

Att just rolled his eyes as Lucy brought up how he had frozen on seeing Dhani in the warehouse. “That’s not the same and you know it. I’ve stayed professional this whole damn time.” He had a response on his lips as Lucy asked him why it mattered, when she said something about Dhani ignoring him. He frowned. “No
no, he hasn’t. Why would you think he’s been ignoring me? It’s not like I’ve said or done anything to give that impression,” He asked. If anything, he’d been afraid that Lucy had somehow known that they’d been in contact, that she’d picked up on it from his demeanour. “And don’t you dare try and bullshit me, we both know I’ll see right through it and I’ll find out one way or the other.”

Luciana turned away a bit from Atticus when he asked about why she would think that Dhani would be ignoring him. She was about to come up with a lie or change the subject, but Att insisted she would know. “Fine. I paid him a little visit after my mission with Malfyre, also had a bit of a girl over with two rats.” Lucy said as she turned back to him. “But it’s good to know he’s such as big of a fucking dumbass as you are Atticus.” She shoved him back a bit. “Maybe I should go back and pay your boy toy another visit. Rough him up this time so he gets the message.” She said with a smirk across her face.

Att honestly hadn’t been sure what he’d been expecting from Lucy, but somehow he was at once angry, yet not surprised. The comment about him being a dumbass passed him by as she threatened to go back and rough him up. “I swear to god, Lucy, if you as much as touch a hair on his head you’ll be finding somewhere else to live,” he swore. “Enough of your petty, over dramatic, stupid bullshit about the heroes. Stop dragging me into it. I never asked to be a villain. Everyone just saw me work with them once or twice and decided that’s what I was. I got dragged into this mess. So I’ll sleep with whoever the hell I want, I’ll text whoever the hell I want, and nothing gives you the right to tell me what I should do. So mind your own goddamn business and stop dragging me into your petty little grudges, because I don’t want to be involved.”

What you gonna do? Luciana thought as Atticus said an empty threat to her, though what he said next just made her laugh a little bit before regaining her composure. “You think we have a choice to be villains Att? I didn’t choose to be a villain. You know this, you know I went to the heroes when I was younger and they made the choice for me to be a villain. I had to become a villain or die a weakling.” Luciana said, anger starting to build up in her. If it was any other person besides Atticus arguing with her, she would’ve acted by now, plus she couldn’t really walk around the gala with blood on her and not be suspicious.

Att just scowled in frustration as Lucy recounted how she didn’t have a choice on becoming a villain. “This isn’t about you, Lucy. I know you didn’t have a choice. But you didn’t leave me with much of one either. And this is my life. And instead of being happy for me, or acknowledge that it’s my goddamn choice who I sleep with, you’ve been a selfish bitch about it and have tried to ruin my life just because you have a grudge against him because of what some people did years and years ago.” Somewhere, out in the main ballroom, he could hear what sounded like people yelling, presumably Dhani and Malfyre’s distraction. At least something was going to plan.

While Atticus talked, Luciana was getting more and more frustrated, she was about to interrupt and say that talking about this now wasn’t worth it and they needed to head back to the ballroom, but a word out of his mouth ticked her off. Bitch. Everything Att said after calling her a bitch she didn’t hear, she just stared into his eyes, as she was now at her peak. Lucy saw his mouth stop moving and blinked a couple times, and then slapped him across the face, not caring about hitting her hand on his mask. “Bitch? I’ll showing you a fucking bitch. Fuck you Atticus. Seriously. Fuck. You. I’ve looked out for you, protected you, while other villains wanted to either toss you aside or torture you. But I’m the bitch? Fine. I’ll leave you alone, invite your little hero lover to the apartment anytime you want.” She shouted towards him and quickly walked away.

Lucy didn’t stop as she came into the main room, but just continued out the door, bumping into a few patrons on the way out. She was furious but also trying to hold back tears as she got outside. Luciana quickly found the limo driver parked off to the side and climbed in, but only to change into spare clothes she brought in case. The driver asked her if she was ready to leave, but she just ignored him as she changed and handed him his payment for the night, not expecting to come back. After she got changed she exited the limo and just started walking down the street, unsure of where she was going. As she got far enough away she ripped off her mask and tossed it into an alley way as she kept walking.

It seemed that Lucy had only heard one word of what he’d said, and that single word resulted in a slap that left his face stinging and nearly knocked his mask off. She screamed at him, talking about how she’d protected him, as if this whole thing hadn’t been entirely all her suggestion. He hadn’t asked for any of this. She stormed off and Att sighed, pulling his mask off and running his hands down his face. He could have stormed out himself then, but he needed to keep his calm. Anger was dangerous, and anger could put them in danger. One person storming out was acceptable. Multiple people could raise questions. He took a deep breath and fixed his mask, regaining his composure. He’d just stepped back out into the ballroom when Dhani’s voice appeared in his earpiece. The curt briefing made Att tense up, afraid something had gone horribly wrong. He instinctively found himself scanning the room, searching for him. His eyes found him and the overwhelming emotion was just relief that he was okay. He had to force himself to look away, remembering that he still had a job to do.

BludWynd spoke, first explaining his relationship with Paladin and Malfyre-which was more information than she wanted to know, honestly-and then he elaborated that the two were unpredictable. Be on the lookout for anything. Wonderful. From what she knew, Piper could understand calling Malfyre predictable. Maybe Paladin seemed unpredictable, but everyone who was more than a half-rate criminal knew exactly what to do to rile him up or throw him off their trail. It was like he was some sort of computer: push the right buttons, and you’d get your desired outcome. Something told her that the other heroes (or, at least, BludWynd) didn’t see it that way. Or maybe no one else in their little group viewed each other in such a pragmatic way. Piper wasn’t a fighter, so she had to learn people’s weaknesses, use them against them.

Speaking of weaknesses, Piper was Luciana from across the room. She was talking to some man, maybe her mark. Piper was busy trying to keep track of everything; a mistake meant that someone could get hurt. Could die. She didn’t really care about most of the people she was working with, but she did not want to get caught up in anything dangerous. She was in no mood to die, and she’d just gotten her hair done. As she glanced back over, Piper noticed Luciana pointing to the man she was with. At first, Piper’s instinct was that Lucy was in trouble, but after she processed the word Luciana had mouthed, ‘bachelor’ she understood what was going on. That could be a disaster.

For a moment, Piper felt helpless. She knew this wasn’t the intended order of events, and that this could potentially end very badly. She quickly found herself scanning the room for Atticus. Truth be told, she didn’t know him well, but he was meant to be Lucy’s partner for the night, and he might be able to keep her on task. Maybe. Atticus looked busy, which was good. He was doing his job. A voice went out over her earpiece. Artemis. They were successful, good. The chain of events that occurred after that were a mixed bag. Atticus was practically storming across the room, and shortly afterwards it seemed as though Paladin and Malfyre were starting their distraction. Maybe things would turn around. After a few moments, though, Piper found herself glancing over at BludWynd, almost as if to gauge his thoughts on current events. It was hard to read someone with a mask on, much less one as theatrical as they were both wearing. “Do you ever wish you’d done something different with your life? I’d be at home right now if I were an accountant.” She wasn’t entirely sure why she’d said it, other than that this life was hard in the best of times, and now it was only harder. The thought occurred to her that she had the option to stop all of this and move on to a normal life. It was tempting.

Then she spotted Luciana storming out of the ballroom, and presumably out of the building. “Excuse me,” Lucy was the only friend Piper really had, she hadn’t made a habit of making friends since she’d left her hometown. Becoming friends with The Red Witch was, in earnest, an investment in Piper’s future, but it had also become a relationship filled with some real comradery. Maybe it wasn’t the deepest or most meaningful friendship, but it was what Piper had. A part of her wanted to chase after Luciana, but she had a job to do. Paladin’s voice was in her ear next. What was happening? Everything seemed to be crashing down around her. She’d gone from never going on any missions, to being right in the middle of one that felt like it was crashing down on top of her.

She needed to talk to Icarus, and it didn’t take long for her to reach him. She rested a gentle hand on his arm, “Hey, what happened?” Of course, this was partly utilitarian; she needed to know if she had to step in anywhere. But she also cared. Sure, she probably could have asked over the communication system they had in place, but that didn't seem right to her.

Luciana ran her hands through her hair and let out a sigh, wanting to scream, but knew it would draw too much attention to herself at the moment. “I’ve always been there for him. I told him this whole sleeping with a hero thing is a bad idea, but I talk to someone from a TV show and I’m the bitch? Asshole
” Lucy spoke out loud, talking to herself as she strolled down the street. She thought about going back to the apartment, but didn’t want to deal with Att at the moment, she would probably just spend the night in the hotel or sleeping under the bridge by 7th street. Luciana could do with some time out of the apartment and away from Atticus until she cooled off.

Lucy pulled her phone out of her pocket when she felt it vibrating and looked at who was calling her at this hour. Pipey :3 Piper was calling her, probably because Atticus went and cried to her about what she did. She hit the call decline button after a few seconds, but quickly sent a text message to her.

To: Pipey :3
If you’re calling for the asshole. I’m fine. Tell him to just confine in his boytoy. I need some time to myself.

Lucy hit send, but then followed up with another message before shoving her phone in her pocket and continuing to walk through the city.

To: Pipey :3
And away from him

The cold air rushing off of cars driving by blew through Luciana’s hair as she began to walk. She didn’t mind the cold much, actually preferred it to the hot summer air. She wasn’t sure exactly where she was going or where she would stop, just walking until she felt like stopping. “Don’t you know it's dangerous out here so late?” A masculine voice said from behind her, though she swore no one was behind her a couple minutes ago. Lucy peaked over her shoulder and saw two men walking, the two seeming to stick out, but assumed just two drunks out late. “I’m fine, fuck off.” She quickly retorted as she began to cross the street.

“There could be some people out here with ill intentions, especially for someone like you. Red Witch.” The men stopped and said, causing Luciana to stop for a second in the road. These men knew who she was, and she wasn’t in her villain attire. She was getting ready to attack when she heard a vehicle’s engine and turned, seeing a van coming at her, but too late to move out of the way. The van clipped her and caused her to get knocked a good ten feet or so away, knocking the air out of her and roughing her up a bit with road rash and feeling a pain in her hip, from where the van mostly hit her.

Luciana quickly got up to try to fight, but it was too late. A bag was over her face and who she assumed were the two men from behind had her hands strained behind her. Red Witch was able to fight a bit, kicking one of the men in the shin, causing her to be dropped. She felt the blood running down her arm from skidding across the asphalt, but couldn’t use her powers without visually seeing the blood since her head was still covered with the bad. Luciana stood up and tried to run, but must have just ran into the other man as she was held again and quickly thrown onto some cold metal, assuming it was the back of the van that hit her. “Who the fuck are you? Let me go right now or else!” Red Witch quickly yelled as she tried to fight back from the men restraining her legs, ankle getting tied together with what felt like some sort of carbon fiber material.

“We got the girl. Boss won’t be happy about you hitting her with a vehicle.” One of the men began to talk, ignoring Luciana. “Well, I saw an opportunity for us, easier than trying to fight her. And can you just shut her up, don’t want her yelling and drawing attention to us.” Another voice talked, feminine, from the front of the vehicle. Luciana began to scream more obscenities at the people in the vehicle, but was quickly stuck with something in her face and her head slammed against the floor of the van, quickly knocking her out cold.

Somebody had once asked him how he could tell the difference between a vision and a dream. Usually, it was the sheer clarity. It felt like he was there. Sometimes it was like he was the one dying. Sometimes he was the one responsible. He never knew which was better. Sometimes, he could feel the pain if he was the one dying. But the ones where he was responsible were a haunting echo of his old life, and left him questioning if he was actually going to be the one responsible. But this time round, he knew exactly which position he would have preferred to be in. Because as bad as it was to experience the pain and trauma of being killed
it couldn’t be worse than seeing his hand pulling the trigger of the gun that was against Lucy’s head.

He bolted upright, the dream still lingering in his head, far, far too vivid to be anything other than a vision. Nausea rose in him as he tried to catch his breath, still feeling like there was someone sitting on his chest. His head was spinning from the sudden movement, but he fought back against his body’s protests to reach over and grab his phone, struggling to read the texts at first. There was a moment of relief when he saw the texts from Piper, but as he read the texts and the screenshots within, the nausea and panic became almost overwhelming. But when he went to actually get to his feet, his head spun so much that he felt like his legs wouldn’t support him. He didn’t have time for this, he needed to do something now. He just sank back onto the bed and squinted at his phone, looking for the number. It rang, which settled his anxiety a little, but she didn’t answer. Of course she didn’t, why would she? She was mad at him, that was all.

“Lucy, if you get this, call me, it’s urgent.” He doubted she’d check her voicemail if she thought it was from him though, so he sent a text as well.

To: Lucy
Call me, it’s urgent.

Was he too late? The rational part of him told him that no, he was pretty sure it wasn’t supposed to happen for another few days at least, but he also knew that it was always a vague timeframe anyway. He didn’t have time to hesitate, didn’t have time to wait around. He needed to tell someone, he needed to do something before it was too late.

He didn’t know what made him pick that number first of all. Maybe he thought that Dhani could help the most, maybe he knew that Dhani could probably contact the rest of the heroes, or maybe it was the same goddamn reason he’d offered him a ride home the night before.

He hesitated for a minute, wanting to call him. He wanted to hear a friendly voice, wanted to hear someone tell him he would be okay. But another wave of nausea hit him and he was pretty sure that he wasn’t capable of holding a coherent conversation. Texting was just about as much as he could manage.

To: Dhani
I need your help- rw in trouble and only gonna get worse if I don’t do something

He wanted to deal with this like they always had, as few people as possible, but if they were as short on time as he thought, they couldn’t afford that. Lucy couldn’t afford that.

To: Dhani
can you contact the others? things are real bad and we need to meet asap

He didn’t know what to say, didn’t know what he should do, and hated how scared and useless he felt. He hadn’t felt like this in years, it hadn’t been this personal in years. It wasn’t like he wasn’t freaked out by every vision he had, but this was just
a whole other level. He had to do something and had to do it soon, and that was just making it worse. And sitting here feeling sorry for himself wasn’t good enough. He managed to get to his feet and get dressed, making his way out to the kitchen to make coffee, watching his phone the whole time. He knew he needed to text Piper as well, get her help on it, but something in him told him to wait until he’d heard from Dhani.

There was just something about the morning after a big mission (Dhani considered anything that involved any sort of undercover identity to be a “big deal.”) that felt unnaturally normal. Dhani was always half expecting someone to jump out at any moment, like some cartoon villain (he should know better about how villains operate, really) to say they’d found him out, it was over, he was done for. This fear used to be constant, but like anything when you do it for a decade, over time it had settled. Only flared up on occasion, when life threw a big wrench in his plans. But with people actually out to kill him, he didn’t feel so paranoid anymore. He also knew that at least some of those feelings came directly from fighting with Kieran the night before.

He felt bad about it. He’d meant the things he said at the time, but it had been less than fair to bring it up at the time. Growing up with two sisters, he’d learned pretty quickly that peace offerings in the form of something edible tended to make it easier to bridge the gap between hurt feelings and awkward apologies. Breakfast would probably be a good place to start.

He felt his phone go off in his pocket, but it took him a minute to get to it. Initially, when he pulled out his phone and saw the texts from Att, he was thrilled. The night before had been undeniably awkward, and he figured that things were ruined between them. It made sense, things probably couldn’t work out between them, anyway. As he read the messages, though, a sort of quiet worry set in. If Red Witch was in trouble, what did that mean for Att? Dhani wasn’t sure how close they were, but he knew they were friends.

0Atticus:
Of course. Are you okay?

Dhani didn’t waste any time. His immediate reaction was calling Gemini. Really, Adrian was who Dhani wanted to talk to. He was pretty level-headed, and he could help Dhani get his head wrapped around the whole thing. Dhani wasn’t much of a planner, so he needed all the help he could get. Adrian picked up the phone, and immediately started going on about the night before. “Yeah, that’s great. Listen; Icarus contacted me, and apparently Red Witch is in trouble. I don’t know any details, but he needs our help.” They quickly made plans for a meeting in a few hours. Adrian asked if he needed any help contacting the others, but Dhani told him he had it under control.

But then there was the matter of actually letting everyone know. He messaged the details to Att first, quickly followed by another text.

0Atticus:
I don’t have Aboleth’s contact information. Pass the message along?

He sent the meeting details to Kieran and Aaron in a group text; he was hoping that Aaron could help get Kieran on board. She tended to be slightly difficult even when she wasn’t upset with Dhani, so he wasn’t taking any chances.

He finally got around to Cerys’ message then, and he replayed her recording several times before messaging her back.

0Cerys:
This might be important. Red Witch is in trouble, don’t know much more than that. Having a meeting.

He followed up with the details: time, location of the shady abandoned warehouse of the week, a curt “thank you,” for agreeing to attend the meeting was included, though he’d sent it before she had the chance to agree.

Now Dhani had to get ready for this meeting. None of the news he'd received had been anything he'd wanted to hear, and to make matters worse, he’d burned his breakfast.

Cerys had just about managed to start to focus on her work when her phone buzzed with a text from Dhani. She swore silently at the news about Red Witch. There was no love lost between them, but after what she’d learned that morning, it probably wasn’t the best news for any of them. If Dhani had just texted her out of the blue to say something had happened to Red Witch, she wasn’t sure that she would have shown up. But she had important knowledge she needed to share, and so she felt almost obliged to at least share that information.

She at least managed to get some work done for a few hours before leaving to go to the meeting. She’d also spent a few minutes cleaning up the recording a little so the voices were clearer and easier to identify, and spent half an hour backing up everything important to a remote hard drive, made sure she had nothing incriminating easily accessible, and double checked to make sure she was still ahead of schedule with her work. When you were liable to have to take a day or two off due to getting your ass kicked while on patrol, you learned to never leave articles or blog posts until the very last minute.

She knew she wasn’t going to be able to go to the meeting in full Artemis gear. It was too early in the day and too easy to be spotted. She knew that that didn’t mean the meeting was going to necessarily be safe, though. It was about striking a balance between blending in and still being practical, which meant leaving her outfit as it was, but wrapping her knuckles and pulling on a pair of gloves, braiding her hair out of her face, and shoving her mask into her pocket. She didn’t trust everyone enough to show up to a meeting without her mask.

She stopped only briefly outside the warehouse to pull on her mask, arriving a few minutes early. She stepped inside, scanning the room and keeping her arms folded. Everyone looked as on edge as she felt, which was oddly comforting. She almost jumped out of her skin when somebody coughed behind her and tapped her on the shoulder. She whirled around to see the female part of Gemini standing behind her, and let out a sigh of relief.

She smiled and shook her head a little as she apologized for how she’d reacted. “It’s fine, really. I don’t think I blame you. And by the ways, those forums are total bullshit, some of their theories are batshit insane. Like, shipping Paladin with a villain level of insane,” she joked. “So we’re good. You have nothing to worry about.”

She turned to look as Icarus cleared his throat, stepping out of the shadows where he’d been lurking.

He’d managed to drink most of the coffee he’d made, but eating something still seemed a little far beyond him. Atticus knew he should do something productive, but he couldn’t bring himself to do any more than pace around the apartment. What could he do? What could he do that would help the situation?

The buzzing of his phone almost made him jump, and even seeing it was Dhani didn’t help. But he had at least agreed to help, and it meant no matter what else, Att wasn’t alone in this. And that was a start. The question of if he was okay went unanswered. He didn’t want to lie but he also didn’t want to worry Dhani by being overly honest about it. So he just
didn’t reply until Dhani sent a text with meeting details.

To: Dhani
yeah, I can pass that on. thanks, I really appreciate it.

To: Piper
Lucy missing, in real danger. Meeting the heroes in a few hours to figure it out. Here’s the details.

The meeting was still a few hours away, and Att tried to put his mind to something productive. But it wasn’t like he had any skills that would be particularly useful, not when he had zero leads and nothing more than a vision to go on. He had a vague sense of time frame and next to no sense of where it would happen, which was completely useless. Lucy’s room was completely untouched, exactly as it had been when they left the apartment the night before. Useless.

He was tempted to see if he could trigger another vision, but he’d never tried to do it for someone he’d already had a vision for, and didn’t even know if it would work. It worked much better with physical contact anyway, and knowing his luck, it would drain him far too much for him to be of any use at the meeting. He also knew that there was a big, big risk that this could be a trap. Take one of them, cause them all to flock together, then pick them off. But they had to meet, they had to figure it out, they had to do something, he had to do something.

He didn’t even check how he looked before he left, just pulled on a warm coat, shoved his mask in his pocket, and made sure he was carrying enough weapons for a worst case scenario. He’d gotten his hands on another gun in return for a favour, a necessary evil. (They were going to die in a police shootout, in a blaze of glory, and they seemed pleased with that.)

It seemed that most of the others were there by the time he arrived. He stuck to the edges, as always, the exits in clear view. He stared straight at the ground, only glancing up to see if anyone else had arrived.

Once it seemed that everyone else that was coming was there, he shot a glance at Dhani. Dhani had, strictly speaking, called the meeting, but Att was the reason they were all there, so it seemed he should be the one to talk, as much as he didn’t want to. He cleared his throat to gather their attention.

“Thanks for coming at such late notice. I’ll get straight to the point.” He scanned the room, as he spoke, but couldn’t meet anyone’s eyes. “Red Witch is going to be killed in the next few days unless I- we- do something. And she didn’t come home last night, so I can only presume that we don’t have a lot of time. I’m not going to force anyone to stay or to help, but
she will die if we don’t do anything, and we can only presume one of us will be next.”

His phone started buzzing in his pocket, and he dug it out, intending to silence it. But he froze as he saw the name on it. Almost instinctively, he turned to glance at Dhani. “It’s her.”

There was a moment of relief at her finally contacting him, enough that he didn’t think the fact it was a video call was odd, he just answered it. “Lu- Red Witch, where are you?” He said, until he realised what he was looking at. “Oh my god.”He whirled around to set eyes on Malfyre. “Come on, you’re a hacker, trace the call or something! Get the phone connected to your laptop, do something!” He yelled.

Luciana slowly came to consciousness, but as she opened her eyes, her vision was mostly obstructed, some sort of cloth bag covering her face. As she went to pull it off, she felt her hands strapped down onto the chair she was sitting. She was confused about what was going on before remembering what happened last night, with the men and woman and the van. The noise of her struggling caught the attention of the people in the room, Lucy heard footsteps come closer to her and pulled the sack off her head. She took time to look around the room to get her surroundings, but it just looked like any abandoned warehouse, which Barden was flowing with. But seeing the guards around here isn’t what caught her attention, but the bright lights, camera, and large screen monitor facing her and wire’s going towards a phone, her phone.

“Look who's finally awake.” The man said that pulled off her hood, dressed in a type of suit and less armor than the guards, probably the one in charge, or atleast incharge of the guards here. “Who are you, and why am I here?” Luciana said, venom behind her words, still struggling her hands a bit. “I am Mark Anderson. I work for someone who wants to make a deal with you.” He said, turning his back to her and going to the camera set up, making sure it was good and grabbing a headset. “This doesn’t seem like a good way to make a deal with someone Mr. Mark Ander-fuck.” She replied as she struggled against him trying to put the headset on her, and quickly slapping her to make her keep still. “Stop struggling. And first we gotta send a little message to someone, and then we will be off to my boss. You’ll appreciate seeing them again.”

“And why do I care about this message or deal? You’re just gonna kill me anyways.” The man laughed and put the sack back on her head, covering her face. “Because if you don’t, we won’t kill you, we will kill Mister Hawkins. And maybe try to track down some information on Miss Aboleth, she’s a bit more slippery to find information about. Plus, you’re gonna appreciate what my employer has planned. Now onto business.” He paused for a second and walked away, before talking again, this time into the headset he put on her. “I will tell you what to say, and you will repeat it. And don’t try any tricks. You saw that you're outnumbered and we really don’t want to hurt you anymore. Okay Miss Morrison?” He finished. Luciana could still see the bright lights and rough figures through the mesh of the sack on her head, saw him wave her arms as two guards stood next to her and another one next to the camera. “Fine.” Lucy said reluctantly. She wouldn’t be able to escape now, but she would just have to wait for her moment. “Good. Now you two, make sure the truck is ready and the decoy is ready for when they come after her. They think we’re gonna kill her, let’s use that to our advantage.”

About 30 more minutes passed as more things were set up and instructions were given to the guards and the men around her. Luciana was just about falling asleep when she felt a someone nudge her shoulder. “Show time.” The voice said, Lucy looking forward and seeing a man hold up his hand, showing five fingers. Then four. Three. Two. One. And her phone began ringing. One ring, nothing. Two ring, nothing. But on the third ring, she saw the black screen on the monitor go away and a figure coming onto screen, unable to make out who it was, just that it was a person. But a voice quickly answered, saying her alias, Atticus.

Luciana stayed quiet for a moment, not answering, but a man behind the camera waved his arm, she was met with a hard hit to the side of her face, assuming it was from the butt of a gun. “Speak. Say who you are and tell them I muted their side of the call.” Instructions from the man flowed into her head dry Lucy coughed a bit as she was pulled back into a sitting up position. “I’m the Red Witch.” She began to talk, waiting for instructions to follow into her headset. The video on the screen flickered as now it looked like multiple people in a room. Lucy assumed Atticus was with the heroes. More instructions quickly came into her head.

“By the way, your side of the call is muted so you can’t interrupt our message to you. We are holding Miss Red Witch under our captivity. We want you and your friends to stop looking into us. Breaking into our offices, trailing our employees, crashing our gala. Gemini. Artemis.” Luciana spoke, pausing for a moment as she was told to give the heroes and villains time to react, a train horn blare in the background.. “If you don’t. We will kill the Red Witch, and that will be just the beginning, much worse will follow if you do not accept our deal. We just want what’s best for our city, and that doesn’t have to involve blood shed. And all it-” Luciana paused for a second, thinking over in her head. She was told to continue with the messages to the others or else.

“Don’t! Don’t listen to them! Icarus. Aboleth! It’s a trap. Ju-” Luciana shouted, before more yelling came from the guards, and Lucy was hit in the stomach, knocking the wind out of her and telling her to shut up. “Fuck you! Take this shit off my head and let me fight yo-” Luciana was interrupted again as she was hit again and a hand covered her mouth and her yelling turned to muffles. Two guards held down Luciana as the man in the suit came over and pulled the bag off of her head. “I’m not that surprised you decided to act up. Though it might make it easier to bring them into our trap. But we need you to behave now, so this might sting a bit.” The man said as he injected some sort of drug into the Red Witch’s neck, causing her to slowly fade into unconsciousness.

Jena let out a bit of a giggle when Cerys brought up some of the wild crack ships some of the citizens think of and the edits they somehow make. “You’re so right, still I hate it that they think me and my other half are brother and sister.” Jena said, making a fake throw up noise and face. She smiled and was glad Cerys didn’t take offense to how she acted at the gala. See, wasn’t all that bad Jen, maybe now they will make ships about you two. Adrian spoke and chuckled a bit to Jena, Jena just shaking her head in response as her and Artemis entered the main room, standing next to each other as others started to arrive and wait for the meeting to start.

Adrian only said the meeting was something about the heroes and more would be explained at the meeting, so Jena wasn’t entirely sure what was going on and tapped her foot waiting for someone to start and say something, starting to get a bit impatient. She was about to speak up and say something, but Icarus cleared his throat and began to speak. The first few words surprised Jena and Adrian. That Red Witch was going to die in a few days. He must have seen something with his powers. Jena said to Adrian, Mhmm
He replied as they continued to listen to the villain.

Gemini knew they would help and weren’t just going to leave the villain to die. First off, it wouldn’t be the hero way to just let someone die without trying to save, but also they needed the Red Witch as much as they needed the rest of the group. Adrian was about to ask Jena to let him take over so he could talk and try to come up with a plan of trying to find the Red Witch and what to do, when Icarus picked up his ringing phone and said it was her, though it was more directed at Paladin.

Jena tensed up a bit when she caught sight of the screen, seeing a woman with what seemed like blonde hair restrained to a chair with a bag over her head. Icarus started to freak out a bit, yelling at Malfyre to trace the call and get it hooked up to her laptop, which she had already pulled out before the meeting started. Malfyre worked fast and got the phone connected to the laptop so everyone in the room could see what's going on, as well as another screen with a ton of stuff quickly flowing down, probably just Malfyre things.

Gemini let out a small gasp as the villain was hit, and began speaking, but in a weird manner which Jena noted. “She must be being fed what to say
” Gemini whispered out loud to the others as the villain continued to speak. Though what happened next scared Jena. Red Witch shouted towards them, specifically at Aboleth and Icarus. Jena let out a bit more audible gasp and instinctively grabbed onto Artemis as the villain was struck and interrupted, the video feed quickly cutting off as there was more yelling coming from the video.

As they stared at a blank screen, Jena noticed she was still grabbing onto Artemis and let go quickly, followed by a quiet sorry. Jena, let me take over
Take some time to relax. Adrian said, Jena just nodded and Adrian took over, taking a step forward. “Hey!” He said loudly to get their attention. “Alot just happened, and we don’t want to act rashly. Malfyre is, what I’m assuming, trying to track location of the phone. Icarus said a few days, that gives us some time to think of something. Anyone got any ideas?”

Piper had tried to call Lucy, like Atticus had asked, but she didn’t pick up. She didn’t think much of it when Lucy texted her shortly after, and just screenshot the messages to send to Att. After that, she was done with the situation. They could work out their roommate drama themselves.

The next morning, she went about her usual routine: yoga, light breakfast, shower, get ready for the day, look over her schedule. It was important for her to stay on top of the jobs she took; sometimes people requested her talents very last-minute, and she didn’t want to double-book herself again. That had been messy.

All together, though, she was looking forward to a normal day. She didn’t have much to do, which she didn’t mind at all. She was just starting to mentally plan out her day when she got a text from Atticus, and her blood ran cold. Of course she would be there, and she shot back a quick text, saying as much. Lucy was her friend, and she would do what she could to get her back. Though, Piper wasn’t sure that she could do much, really.

There wasn’t much to do to get ready for the meeting. Strictly speaking, Piper didn’t even have any sort of “uniform” to change into; she hardly even had a consistent mask. Though, she did wish she hadn’t gone through the trouble of applying lipstick. That would just get ruined. All she was really worried about was showing up on time. As per usual, she wore her mask around her neck, like some sort of a scarf, until she’d nearly arrived at the meeting place.

Just once, she would like to have a meeting in a place that didn’t look like it might collapse on top of them at any moment. She didn’t think that was too much to ask for.

It wasn’t very long before everyone had arrived. Most of the group was always on time, and Piper commended them for that. Especially now. She knew that many of the heroes weren’t the fondest of Lucy, so the fact that they would come out to help her meant a lot. Unless they hadn’t been told why they were here, which Piper figured was also a possibility.

She found herself staring at Atticus; she wondered if he was going to speak, how he was handling all of this. He and Lucy had fought the night before, so Piper wondered if he felt guilty. She wouldn’t have. Piper caught Atticus’ glance to Paladin; had he been the one that helped set this up? She crossed her arms as Att spoke; the danger they were all in felt very real in that moment, and the worry she felt for Lucy even more real. It was like an all-consuming pit in her stomach. They had to save Lucy. She would die if they didn’t, and then more of them would die. Piper wasn’t overly fond of anyone in the room, but they were still her best chance of survival, and they stood the best chance of finding Lucy before it was too late.

Then Lucy called.

There was a moment when Piper found herself hoping that Lucy was fine, she’d be back home soon, and everything would be fine. But Att’s reaction told her that was unlikely. She rushed to Atticus’ side, wanting to get a look at what was happening; though Malfyre quickly had the video feed hooked up to her computer. She felt the presence of another person behind her, but honestly didn’t think much of it. She was entirely focused on the video; watching wide-eyed, as if blinking would make it disappear. She wanted to flinch when Lucy was hit the first time, but she forced herself to stay calm, keep watching. Luciana needed them to stay calm.

Piper listened as carefully as she could, studied what little she could see and hear. She figured they were very likely only going to get to see this once, and she wasn’t going to risk assuming someone else was putting any of the information to memory. But when Lucy broke the script they were feeding her, Piper couldn’t stay as calm. Something was very wrong, and Piper wondered if she and Atticus had been specifically threatened, or if Luciana had just assumed it was them on the other end of the call. It was more violent when the guards hit Lucy the second time, and when combined with the warning, it was a surprising moment. Piper let out a quick yelp and recoiled, taking a step backwards, and right into someone. A pair of hands grabbed onto her shoulders, likely to steady her, but Piper immediately reached and grabbed onto the hand on her right shoulder with both her her own, taking a bit of comfort from the gesture.

It was only a short moment when, embarrassed by her reaction, she let go. She almost didn’t want to know who’s hand she’d just held onto like a scared child, but she figured she should apologize, so she turned her head. Of course it was Paladin. Why couldn’t it have been a hero she was even marginally familiar with? “Sorry,” The apology was hardly more than a whisper, but he shrugged it off.

“Don’t worry about it.”

Piper didn’t have much of a chance to consider if she would worry about it before Gemini (Hadn’t the other one been here earlier? It was so hard to keep them straight.) was speaking, trying to regain some control of the situation. Piper looked down at the floor as he spoke. She didn’t know much about any of this. She didn’t know how to help, or do anything besides tell people to give her a free cup of coffee. They had a little bit of time, but not much. Hopefully enough time to put a real plan together. She felt her eyes stinging, tears threatening to start pouring down her cheeks. She started blinking them back; this wasn’t the time. Later, she could be scared and cry. But not now, not in front of the heroes. Now, she needed to channel these emotions into something more useful. Anger, perhaps. "There was a train," She said, and cleared her throat, so her voice sounded a little stronger, "In the video. I don't know if it's helpful, but I heard a train."

Dhani had always felt like his mask looked silly when paired with regular clothing, but it was too early in the day to go out in a super suit, and frankly he didn’t want to deal with getting into it for a meeting. It wasn’t worth wearing the thing if he wasn’t going to be in it for at least a few hours. So he didn’t spend much time getting ready. As he left, he almost stopped by Kieran’s to make sure she was coming, but he didn’t want to bother her. Besides, he wanted to make sure he wasn’t late, and he was nearly almost lost when he started trying to drag Kieran along with him. He’d called the meeting, he couldn’t be late this time.

Instead, he tried to be early, wanting to show up ahead of everyone else. This felt tense, important, but before he knew it everyone had arrived. When Atticus glanced his way Dhani gave a small smile, as if to say “you can do this.” When Atticus started talking, Dhani glanced around the room at the others. He didn’t like speaking up at these meetings, but he was ready to if anyone decided to be difficult. Not that he thought they would, but Red Witch was not beloved amongst the heroes. Hell, he wasn’t fond of her, himself. But here Att was, asking all of them for help. Dhani knew that even if no one else agreed to help, he would. For Red Witch, and the cause they all shared
 And for Atticus’ sake, too.

Atticus fished his phone out of his pocket just as he’d finished explaining what was going on, and then turned to look right at Dhani. It was Red Witch. It wasn’t long before Atticus was yelling at Kieran to do something. Dhani glanced at Kieran, hoping she’d keep it together for this. She was looking a little rough, but this was important. It wasn’t long before they had the video pulled up on a bigger screen, though everything else going on was a little distracting. Dhani moved in to watch, right over Aboleth’s shoulder. She was short enough that she wasn’t in his way, and he counted on her not minding him standing behind her.

The video itself wasn’t fun to watch. Dhani didn’t particularly like Red Witch, but he didn’t like seeing anyone be abused like that. It only solidified that they needed to work to get her out of wherever she was, and quickly. At the end of the video, Aboleth backed right into Dhani. She was surprised, and it was only a natural reaction. He grabbed onto her shoulders to stop her, so she wouldn’t end up taking them both to the floor. He didn’t know what to do when she grabbed his hand, so he didn’t do anything. It wasn’t a big deal, anyway. They were all on the same side right now, and Dhani had never hesitated to help out or comfort any of the heroes if he could.

Thankfully, Gemini stepped up to take control of the room. Dhani wasn’t much of a planner, but he’d go along with whatever plan was made. He looked at Att, trying to see if he could piece out how he was doing. Dhani didn’t know. The fucked up situation they’d been in had only gotten worse by the minute, and Dhani wouldn’t be surprised if it managed to get even worse before they finished the meeting.

Malfyre | Anti-Hero | Outfit & Mask | #575772

I lost a bet to a guy in a Chiffon skirt
But I make these high heels work
I've told you time and time again
I'm not as think as you drunk I am
And we all fell down when the sun came up
I think we've had enough

The walk from her apartment complex to the warehouse wasn’t so bad, except for the bright sunlight since it was still rather early in the day, which was only making her hangover worse. But thank god she grabbed a pair of sunglasses on her way out, which helped lessen the light sensitivity, but her head still ached, and having to walk and move around was only making her feel even more sick. She really should have just stayed home and stayed in bed and slept the hangover away, but here she was. Making her way to a warehouse for who knows what bullshit, probably an intervention, which if it was she would walk out the door the moment they started speaking to her. Malfyre knows she fucked up and probably jeopardized the mission, but Kieran’s pride wasn’t going to let that get to her, or even really dwell on it. That was the thing that not many people realized, that sure enough Malfyre was her alter-ego for the mutant side of her, who could just roll with the punches and act like things didn’t bother them, but Kieran, the actual person under the mask took things all too personally. Maybe she was a bit too sensitive sometimes, but she wasn’t going to let it go with what happened. And it was a weight she was going to bare for who knows how long. Not that she wanted it to show, she’d do her job, that’s all that mattered.

Finally, after what was about thirty or so minutes, Kieran saw the warehouse she’d need to go to in the distance, and put on her mask as she ducked into an alleyway, and made her way slowly to the warehouse. Scouting it out first as she wanted to make sure that it wasn’t a setup, seeing Gemini and Artemis walking in both together, talking, she snuck in behind them and hung close to one of the walls as she followed them in silently. Her attention was focused on Icarus as he greeted them all in, preparing herself for what was to come. But what came next, she hadn’t anticipated at all. Red Witch was missing. Somehow, on god’s green earth, Red Witch was missing, and Icarus was in need of help. Normally she would have brushed it off, but with the history of mutants, both heroes and villains disappearing, this wasn’t a chance they could afford to risk.

Malfyre stood motionless as Icarus looked at his phone and said how it was her, clearly Red Witch. If her hunch was right, it was going to be a bait, small piece of a bread trail they could use, or even a way for whoever was doing this to get the jump on them. Kieran quickly took out her laptop and was already getting things set up by the time Icarus started yelling at her to do something cuz she was a known hacker. “Already working on it, Pretty Boy! Just...Stop yelling at me, alright?” she yelled back as she scrambled to get his phone connected to her laptop, after setting up a few things to keep her laptop from being corrupted by anything on his phone, or if they were being tracked as well, she made sure to put up plenty of blockers and anti-tracking walls up to keep her laptop from being fucked with. If they couldn’t track them, they’d be fine. Kieran’s laptop was already searching over for any possible coordinates it could scan from the call, and even a simple location like what part of the city it was in could help tremendously.

Kieran’s eyes didn’t even bother looking at the screen with the video feed, that’s not where her priorities lied currently. Her eyes scanned over all of the coding and numbers that flew across the screen as multiple applications and scanners and the like scanned for even a simple trace. Anything at this point would help them. Kieran’s eyes glanced over to the other screen when there was a sound of what she thought was a slap, which she knew was confirmed by everyone’s reactions of gasps and shock. Kieran remained unfazed by what took place as Red Witch was sedated and the camera feed was cut shortly after. Kieran remained motionless as everyone else reacted differently, but also the same. Shock, confusion, worry. It was all normal reactions, but Kieran knew what the end result of the call was going to be. Torture and violence were common place for this type of situation, and Kieran would be lying to herself if she didn’t act like she had to have done some similiar things in the past to get information out of people. Hell, she had done far worse for less, which turned her stomach just a bit.

Slowly, Malfyre turned to get up, keeping the laptop on a stack of boxes that helped keep it propped up as the group gathered around her to watch the video call playout. Kieran walked over to one of the ends of the warehouse, lifting up the bottom of her mask just enough as she emptied the contents of her stomach as she dry heaved and gagged, her hangover really was getting worse as time went on. Besides, what she had seen, as much as she didn’t want to acknowledge it was disturbing in a sense. Kieran slowly made her way back over to the other in time to hear Gemini speak, who she noticed had changed forms since she walked away. Their power really was interesting. Something that was slowly peeking her interest into how it happened, or if it was naturally brought on. Shaking her head of those thoughts as she walked back over, pulling the rest of her mask back down as she crossed her arms.

The group were all asking what they’d do, with multiple people asking Malfyre what to do and what they would learn if they figured out where she was. “Okay first, one at a time please. I am one person and can only answer so much at a time, especially right now
” she muttered, the voice modifier on her voice crackled as she spoke. Walking back over to her computer, she unplugged Icarus’ phone and tossed it back to him as she felt her custom laptop in one hand, “Alright, so from that call and what we managed to garner from it. I picked up on a few things actually, much to your delight I’m sure.” she said with a tint of sarcasm. First, pointing at Aboleth, “Blondie is right, we did hear the sound of a train, which is important to note. So, good insight on that one, Aboleth.” Malfyre held up a finger, indicating their first point, “Second, she was in some building with a bunch of monitors in the background, most likely used as a distraction to keep us from figuring out what kind of building it was. Smart of them, but not that smart.” Malfyre held up a second figure, looking over at Icarus she spoke again, “And lastly, we do have a few days, at most. If they keep to their word, which is important to note. I’ll work on the coordinates and all the possible places she could be in, if they’ll still be there. Cuz who’s to say they aren’t on the move right now? I’ll be sure to keep you updated as I figure out more, no need for numbers, I have my ways of contacting you all.” her mask lit up indicating a small wink of the led light eyes.

“And actually, proper last important note, the train. There are a few different train stations throughout Barden. At least two that are still in function, so if I were to venture a guess. Including possible other warehouses or abandoned buildings she could be in, Red Witch could be anywhere in the North end which is where the busier tracks are, or, which is my higher guess, she could be in the West end. Less traveled and more of a spot I’d think of to take someone hostage.” Kieran mumbled the last part to herself, before quickly shaking her head as she closed her laptop and held it to her chest as she nervously rocked on her feet, “But, I’ll have proper concrete evidence in the next few days, so...Until then just, sit tight and don’t do anything stupid. You try going after her alone, you could fuck it up and actually end up having her be killed, which, wouldn’t put it past them to make her an example. So just, be smart and patient. I’d do my best on this, I’ll get your friend back.”

Icarus’ words only served to make Cerys’ blood run cold. If Red Witch’s life was in danger, that also meant that the rest of them could be as well. She was about to speak up and reveal what she’d learned, but then his phone began to ring. At first, she rolled her eyes, expecting it to be a false alarm. But the glimpse of the screen made her stomach twist.

There was a flurry of activity as Malfyre managed to connect his phone to their laptop, and the view confirmed Cerys’ worst fears. A hostage video, by the looks of things. The robotic way she was speaking confirmed she was being fed lines, and she just nodded as Gemini commented on it. It just made it all the more obvious when Red Witch suddenly broke away from the script and yelled at the two villains not to listen. Gemini’s arm on hers made her jump, but she didn’t tear her eyes away from the screen. It went black, and Cerys let out a shaky breath she hadn’t realised she was holding, managing a small smile at Gemini’s apology.

There was a flurry of outbursts and people talking over one another, but Cerys couldn’t help but notice that Icarus was frozen, practically rooted to the spot. Everyone else seemed to be leaping into activity, giving answers, trying to figure things out, but he was just still staring at the screen. She glanced away as Gemini turned into their male form, the shift happening without her noticing despite the fact they were standing right beside her. He seemed to get some semblance of order on the proceedings, getting people to chip in with anything that could be helpful. Aboleth had heard a train. Malfyre began discussing what they’d seen and what it meant. They mentioned that they had some details on where they were, but said it would be a few days before they had concrete evidence. Icarus almost seemed to snap to attention at that, and turned his attention to Malfyre. Cerys braced herself on seeing how his posture shifted from one of shock and emptiness to one of anger. She didn’t know much about Icarus, none of the heroes really did, but she knew that if someone like him got that angry, it generally wasn’t good.

Malfyre’s comment about not yelling at them went straight over Atticus’ head as he stared at the screen, all of his worst fears being confirmed. They had Lucy. She was being held hostage. He could see shadows in the background, presumably guards of some kind. For a few horrific moments, Att thought he was about to see his dream repeated, just from a different angle and too far away to help.

And then Lucy began to speak, her tone flat and her words not her own. Telling them to get out and stop looking, or else. They knew they’d been at the gala. Of course they did, with everything that had happened, were they even surprised? He could see Lucy stopping, beginning to think. She yelled for him and Piper not to listen, that it was a trap, but all that really seemed to sink in was the struggle that ensued and how quickly the video shut off. Somewhere in his head, he could still hear the echo of the gunshot from his vision. Malfyre walked away, going into one of the corners for a moment, before coming back.

Even as the heroes sprung into action, he was frozen. Were they already too late? Had they already killed Lucy for her insolence, for trying to warn them? Maybe he shouldn’t have let her storm off like that, he shouldn’t have called her a bitch like that, he should have gone after her-

It was only when Malfyre began talking that Att’s attention was drawn back into the room. He just about managed to catch his phone and shot them a glare as he did so. They were discussing at length everything they’d seen and what it meant. Everything they were saying seemed promising, right up until they mentioned it would be a few days and not to do anything stupid. Her tone made something snap inside him, anger rising to the surface and replacing the numbness that had been there only moments before.

“No.” The word came out forcefully and almost without him meaning to. “This might just seem like another mission to you but in case you forgot, they are going to kill her in the next few days. And after that, it’s probably sooner rather than later. So we don’t have a few days for you to sit around on your ass and figure this out. Put your fucking ego aside, stop treating this like a game, and help us now.” Malfyre’s downright flippant and patronizing attitude had somehow released all the anger he was feeling, but he didn’t care. It needed an out, and they were a convenient target. “Or else give us the fucking locations and we’ll deal with it ourselves. We can’t do any worse than you taking literal days to try and figure out where she is, because she’ll probably be dead anyway.”

“And
there’s something else.” A female voice said, and Atticus turned to look at Artemis. “I was on a run this morning when I overheard people discussing
well, discussing Red Witch. And they seemed pretty confident in the fact that you and Gemini were there last night, and
they were looking for evidence that there were others in attendance. They were going to look at our movements last night to try and identify us to confirm which of us were there.” She glanced at Gemini. “And by the sounds of it, they’ve already gotten evidence I was there. If they can confirm you guys were all there as well
”

“We could be direct targets,” Att finished, sighing. She nodded.
“I’m guessing that they only name dropped the two heroes they knew for sure were there, so directly threatened us. They don’t know for sure about the rest of you. Yet.”
“Yet,” Att echoed. He turned back to Malfyre. “So. Do you think that they’ll just ignore that knowledge, file it under “for future reference”? They probably won’t use it, they’re clearly the type of people who will do exactly what they say so why would they go trying to kill us?” He snapped. “Now you know that your life is probably also directly under threat, are you going to actually help by giving us that information now so we can do something sooner rather than later?” He asked, staring straight at them.

Kieran knew what she said would more than likely make Icarus angry, it would only be a valid reaction to being told your friend could possibly die, but the level at which he lashed out was uncalled for. And her own rage began to brew inside of her, especially when he more or less called her lazy and doing nothing but sitting on her ass. Assuming she was going to do nothing and just act like it was nothing. She was taking this seriously, even if her attitude didn’t seem like it. Aaron immediately shot her a glare, and even interjected himself in between Kieran and Icarus, as well as Gemini did the same, now in their male form as they tried to mediate things between them, clearly being able to tell how fast things were going to escelate. The look in Aaron’s eyes was a familiar one that Kieran had seen time and time again, ever since they were kids. It was his way of telling her to just calm down and let it go. Kieran shook her head as she pushed Aaron to the side, “Fuck that, shit. You know better than anyone how I am, BludWynd. I’m not not just gonna take this shit.” Kieran said coldly, stepping past Aaron.

Malfyre shot Icarus a look before looking at Gemini, giving him a small nod of her head at his question. Of course if she could do it in a matter of seconds, she already would have done it, nevermind not even letting it all get to this point. Looking back at Icarus, Kieran cleared her throat before stepping up closely to him as she stared him down as she spoke, “Just like Blue Boy here said, if it was that simple, I would have done it already and you’d all already be there by now.” Kieran said coldly, before taking a small breath, needing to calm herself down. “The sooner we can get her back, the sooner it will happen, trust me. I don’t like the idea of this any more than you do. While we may be on opposite sides of this shit, I don’t want to see her die any more than you do. The sooner we get her back, the better. If I could just snap my fingers and have her back here, I would have done it.” she snapped, turning to look at the others for a moment, focusing on Dhani for a minute.

Looking back at Icarus again, this time with a look even he’d be able to sense behind her complex mask, “I do uh...Know a bit more than I originally let on, but do not take that out of context before I explain.” she quickly retorted, crossing her arms as she paced slightly, “I know how these types of people work, I’ve...I’ve done some similar things before, alright? They won’t kill her, not yet. Or even at all. If they wanted her dead, she’d already be dead. They want her for something else than just a ransom, if it was as simple as a ransom they would have killed her then and there. They need her kept alive, for what I don’t know yet.[/b] she said as she paced around more. “Give me...A day at most and I will be able to toss you some direction of where to look for her. Cuz trust me, I want to get her back just as much as you do, even if she did try to kill me a few times.” Kieran chuckled slightly, more of a nervous variety which was clear.

Malfyre stopped in her footsteps after a moment of thinking, Aaron cocking his head to the side inquisitive as he studied the change in her posture and movements. “What’re you thinking of, Mal?[/b]” Aaron questioned, watching her as she thought for a moment. Malfyre turned and looked at him for a moment before speaking again, “I don’t know how I forgot this but, the day that me and Red Witch went on that little
.mission a few weeks back? We uh, we found some things. More than just that party list.” Malfyre stated as she quickly moved back over to where her backpack was, rummaging through it for a moment before she pulled out what looked to be a hard drive of some sort. “Obviously this is just a copy, as the original drive is back at my place, safe keeping and all. This is everything that we managed to get from our source who was so lovely and generous to give to us.” Kieran said as she held up the harddrive, before crushing it in her hand. Pieces of plastic and metal bits crumbling to the floor as she walked back over to her computer. “Again, I have another copy, but what on that drive was too dangerous for anyone to see. Even I shouldn’t have seen what was on it, and knowing what’s back on that computer?” Malfyre shuttered for a moment.

Turning back to look at the others she took a deep breath for a moment, “Like Artemis here said...They already know of our presence at the party, but there’s more than that. They uh...They know a lot more than we thought. They know who each and everyone one of us are, and where we live. They know it all.” Kieran finally stated as she rubbed the back of her neck nervously. “There’s no point in hiding anything anymore. The fact they know who Red Witch is, as well as the rest of us, especially me? If they wanted us dead, they would have done it already. They would have killed us all already, or taken us captive, or tortured, or even worse. If they know who we are, and they haven’t killed us all yet, there’s clearly something they want from us. Killing us isn’t their prerogative, we just need to find out what it is, and use it against them. Which is starting out by getting Red Witch back, and then we can figure out the rest as we go.” Malfyre took another deep breath as she tried to calm herself down, if she tried to say she wasn’t freaked out by all of this, she’d be lying. Ever since she checked out what that drive had, hadn’t left her mind, not until just now with that small dispute with Icarus.

Kieran looked over at Aaron to try and gauge some sort of reaction out of him, but by the look on his face, which was so pale it was almost gray gave her all she needed to know. Aaron’s stomach turned itself in knots at what Malfyre said, how whoever took Red Witch and had set up the party, they knew everything, and then some. Who was to say this wasn’t all some big trap to get them all in one place and then just go for the killing blow? But the fact that they hadn’t done anything yet was just as alarming as it was a relief, but it didn’t frighten him any less. “So, what does that mean for us then? If they already know so much, how do we know any of us are even safe? Who’s to say it’s not just...some trap?” he questioned, his voice wavering as he spoke. Malfyre simply just shrug her shoulders, “I don’t know. All I know is, Red Witch is gone, and it’s our job to get her back, that much I’m certain of. I’ve been working double time with everything, trying to figure out who this is and...I don’t know yet. All I know is that we have lots of work to do...If it’s any consolation, I didn’t look at anyone’s files. I simply looked at my own and, everything was correct, so I can only assume it was the same for all of you as well.” Malfyre crossed her arms once more as she leaned against a pillar, trying to wrack her brain of what she could do. “All I know is, I’ll be doing what I can to figure out where she is, starting now.” Malfyre muttered as she walked over to her laptop and began to look over anything she may have missed earlier, thankfully she had recorded the call and video end of it all and could receive it as many times as she’d have to. They’d find her, she wasn’t going to give up on this until she was brought back alive. She had to..

Att just glared at Gemini as he stepped between him and Malfyre, telling him to calm down. They didn’t seem to understand how urgent this was, that this wasn’t him overreacting to the call. Gemini gave another one of his grand speeches, telling them how they all knew what they were getting themselves into and how they were all in danger. He knew that the hero was just trying to stop things from escalating into another fight, but he was angry. He felt that if it was a hero that had been taken, they all would have been trying much harder. But because it was one of them, it didn’t matter as much.

He stared Malfyre down as she stared at him. He wasn’t scared of her, and he wasn’t going to back down just because the heroes told him not to be so angry. Malfyre said that she didn’t want to see Red Witch dead any more than he did, but it felt hollow. He just raised an eyebrow as she said she couldn’t see any reason that they’d kill Lucy, but fresh anger burned in his throat. They weren’t taking him seriously. They still thought he was over-reacting, and now they were just trying to de-escalate the situation. “It doesn’t matter that we don’t know why they’re going to kill her. They will kill her unless we do something. That’s how it works, and I have never been wrong before.”

He might have let it slide, had Malfyre not then produced a hard drive, stating it was a copy of all of the information she had on them. He didn’t understand why she crushed it. Probably just another display of power. The only bit of information that Atticus really took from Malfyre’s little speech was that she had access to information on them, information that they’d all tried to keep buried. He was glad when Piper spoke up and said exactly what he was thinking. Malfyre said she had only looked at her own, but he didn’t fully believe that.

Dhani tried to placate Piper, but seemed to only make things worse. Att trusted Dhani, probably much more than he should have done, but the others didn’t get the same privilege. Piper made the point he was thinking. Best case scenario, they looked and viewed them all differently. Atticus knew that they all underestimated him, not knowing how dangerous he was, and if they found it out
well, he didn’t know how they’d react. He glanced at Dhani, almost subconsciously.

“We have much more to lose if our secrets, our identities are leaked. Me and Paladin burned the files we found because we didn’t think anyone deserved to have that much power. You keep saying we’re all in the same position, we’re all in danger, and then you reveal that you have compromising information on us? How are we supposed to trust you if you have that information at your disposal? All we have if your word that you won’t read it and won’t leak it and won’t use it against us.” He shook his head and ran his hand through his hair.

Artemis tensed as everyone else seemed to ready themselves for a fight, almost instinctively bracing herself into a fighting stance. But it didn’t seem to get to that, Icarus and Malfyre seeming to prefer to stick to just words for now. But a divide seemed to be rapidly growing between the group. She visibly winced as Malfyre revealed that she had information on them all, and claimed she hadn’t looked at them. Aaron seemed to believe and trust Malfyre about this, so Cerys would return the favour, but she didn’t particularly like the idea of someone having that much information on her.

Icarus and Aboleth, however, were very obviously not happy about it. And in some ways, Cerys almost didn’t blame them. Dhani tried defending Malfyre, but couldn’t quite stand up to Aboleth. The villains didn’t trust the heroes, that much was clear. Did they really have more to lose? Or did the heroes have further to fall from the podium they’d be put on?

“Listen. We can’t afford to let this come between us, and Red Witch sure as hell can’t afford it either. Trust me, I’m not totally happy about someone having that much information about me either but we need to work together, if only long enough to get Red Witch home safely. But we need to know that our secrets are safe and that nobody will use them against us. I don’t blame anyone for wanting that assurance.” She said, folding her arms. She knew that it was the villains that wanted the reassurance their secrets wouldn’t be used against them, but she also wanted to know that if the villains got their hands on the heroes’ secrets, that they’d be offered the same respect.

“So. Has anyone any suggestions? Or can we just agree to at least trust each other for a few goddamn days to save Red Witch’s life?”
