It began as any other day, only this time something was different. Pouring over a tome sat a hunched figure, focused solely on what was laying before him. Writing furiously, surrounded by medicinal herbs and glass mason jars full of sprites and spirits alike. The figure used to be a world famous wizard, a man second only to God himself. Now was a humble apothecary, serving the sick, and healing them for free. He doesn't make money, instead the people show their kindness by paying his bills, and paying his damage fines.
__________

Then the man's quiet existence changed forever. A young woman barged into his shop, demanding he take her on as an apprentice. It caught the man off-guard for sure, seeing as he hadn't been a practicing wizard in years. However the girl had worked up confidence enough to ask such a thing. Of course, the man agreed with a soft smile and spoke in a low calming tone.

"You may begin work immediately then."

__________

We begin as the young girls apprenticeship begins with the wizard Valdaire. How will their relationship grow? Only time will tell of course.

Light streamed into the small dark colored shop. It's rays bouncing faintly off of the many glass vials and jars, creating a mini light show within the shop itself as the glow his the stained glass. Hunched over a mahogany colored desk, sat a large figure. His shoulder-length blonde hair hitting his shoulders lightly as his expression was lost in his own focus. A soft melody also floated through the man's shop, it was quiet, calming, and sad yet happy all at once. It was a beautifully conflicting feeling. A small fire was lit in the fireplace, it's eyes flickering onto the man. It was a spirit the man had made a contract with early on in his life. He couldn't bear to part with the thing, so he kept it.

A smile crept onto the man's lips, a soft, pleasant smile, as he put his large tome aside. Rising with soft pops and cracks in his knees and lower back, the man made his way gracefully to one of the many shelves. The man seemed to be deep in thought, as if he had some great quandary within him that he must solve. Grabbing three small glass jars off the shelf he went back to his desk, it was covered in papers, practically spilling off the sides and overflowing from the drawers. Stains from bright colored magics gone awry. Runes covered it for God knows why. It was certainly a desk that could tell some stories.

Pushing a strand of hair behind his ear the man slid on a pair of glasses as he observed the herbs within the small vials. He got out a mortar and pestle and began crushing the herbs together, a lovely scent began wafting in the air as a faint white light radiated from the mix. The man swayed lightly in tune with the faint music as he worked. His large sure hands working diligently and expertly, all the while keeping it at a steady pace. It was like dancing. The fluidity of his movements and the contentment he wore on his face. It was a truly lovely atmosphere within the Valdaire Apothecary.

In the corner of the room, curled up on a huge decorative pillow, lay a rather chubby gray and white cat. He wore a collar with a crystalline charm around his neck, the collar caused his long tufts of fur to perk out around the band. A grandfather clock stood, keeping a silent visage over the shop, ticking quietly. Yes, everything was perfectly tranquil. Then a thought crossed the man's mind. Putting the mortar down gently with a subtle clack, he rose and walked over to the stairwell that led up to where his apprentice was sleeping. It was in the wee hours of morning, but she needed to be awake. He didn't like waking people, he thought it rude. No matter.

He began his slow ascent up the squeaking wood staircase and up into the girl's room. As he carefully turned the engraved brass knob, a light scent of flowers began filling the air as the door silently swung open. The only sounds audible being the soft rustling of the wind outside and the sweet noises of sleep coming from the bed in the middle of the room. Billowy comforter engulfing the form within. As if the blankets were a cocoon and the girl was going through metamorphosis.

Making his was gingerly towards the bed. He then sat on the end of it, gazing down at the sleeping figure before him. She looked so precious asleep like that. That was about to change. Placing his large hand on her shoulder and leaning in close to her ear to whisper.

"Miss Moretta, time to wake up." Sighing like a parent would he tried again, lightly shaking her. Not too much, just barely.

"Miss Moretta? I do wish you'd open your eyes." This was precisely how Cornelius woke up his apprentice every day for the last week of her being apprenticed here. Honestly he wasn't so sure what she thought of it yet.

Annabelle Moretta

Seeing the trees fly by her as Anna raced down the pavement, she puffed out air, not stopping to take a breath. Tears fell from her eyes, grazing her cheeks, and finally making their way to her salmon colored tank top. "I'm never going back!!" She yelled wildly into the blue sky. She had a should bag packed with clothes bouncing along side her hip, and a piece of paper with an address written on it in the other.

When Anna arrived in the middle of town, she began asking people if they knew were the potion shop was. She frantically showed them the address and without having too much trouble, she found it. Anna had heard of a great wizard who could make anything out of nothing. Since she had a fight with her father, she decided to run away and demand to have him take her on as his apprentice. Anna's father lost his temper and told her to knock off the magic training. So, with a rage of spirit in her, Annabelle courageously knocked on the door to the somewhat odd looking shop.

Upon her knock, there was no answer. She knocked once again, but still no answer. As she raised her hand to bang on the door the third time the door suddenly swung open and---"AH!" Anna jumped, looking around to see her new room. Her eyes quickly darted to the figure, leaning over her. It was Cornelius, or Nelly as she had learnt to call him. "O-Oh...Sorry, I was dreaming..." She gulped. Her dream was about a week ago, when she had first come to this mystical shop.

It was something Anna was adjusting to, getting woken up by Cornelius that is. She wasn't sure what to make of the situation. Barging in on a persons store, and demanding things? That wasn't Anna. But what was Annabelle was determination. She convinced herself that she would be a magnificent wizard, but only with Nelly's training.

Anna sat up tiredly in the bed. She yawned loudly as she stretched. Her t-shirt was tasseled around, revealing her belly button also tossing off the covers to stretch her smooth legs. She got out of bed and looked over her shoulder, "Morning Nelly." She yawned once again.

As Anna woke up, she seemed to startle herself in her sleep. Nelius chuckled quietly.
"O-Oh. . .Sorry, I was dreaming. . ." She said as she began getting out of her bed. Nelius stood slowly, walking over to the curtains behind her bed he gently pulled them open, allowing the sunlight to stream in. Rubbing his hands together, a faint rustling sound emanating from his coat as he did, he then turned around to see her.

"It's quite alright Miss Moretta. I have taken the liberty of making you breakfast." Nelius smiled warmly as he stepped around the young girl carefully, exiting her room and beginning his descent down the steps, remembering something he leaped up the two stairs he had gone down and peeked his head back in.
"By the way, I don't mean to be pushy, but I'd appreciate it if you didn't call me 'Nelly.'" Then with that he made his way down the steps, they seemed to strain under him as usual, he didn't pay them much mind. Once he reached the bottom he strode over to the fire and began cooking some eggs and bacon.

Smells of food entered the symphony of aromas within the shop. The cat in the corner made a grouchy noise, piercing the otherwise orderly sound barrier. Smiling Nelius tossed the feline a piece of bacon fat. Once the food was cooked, he laid things down on the small table, and took a seat. As he did he took out a cup of his homemade tea, sipping it quietly, occasionally exhaling. Other than that, the tranquility of the shop remained.

Anna squinted her eyes as the bright light shown through. She was just beginning to get used to his wake up calls. She rubbed her eye tiredly as she watched him float downstairs. Apparently he had forgotten something as his head peaked in her room once more. She chuckled as he made his remark. So, Corny then? She giggled to herself. Anna stood up and changed her clothes. She put on dark blue skinny jeans and a white t-shirt. She slipped on a black vest as she tied her usual gold ribbon in her hair.

The smell of the tasty breakfast was mouth watering as she made her way down the stairs. She walked passed the cat and petted his head as she took a seat at the small table. This looks great but I told you I'd make breakfast, Nelly! She sighed as she began chomping down on the ravishing food. She took a few sips from her tea as she took a breather. It was pretty embarrassing to get winded just from eating, but Annabelle paid no attention to it.
Instead she just glanced around the shop. She had began growing attached to it. The beautiful yet odd decoration, the calming presence or the fireplace, and even the noisy cat who probably hated her. So, what're we learning today? She asked curiously as she finished her food.
