The World of Gavilla

0 INK

Gavilla is a parallel reality to Earth, but magic works and can be manipulated. The Queen of Crix is recruiting people to defeat raiders and protect the country.

7,456 readers have visited The World of Gavilla since gaiadarkstar created it.

Introduction

Gavilla is a world parallel to Earth, similar in many ways, such as the landmasses and oceans, although they have different names. It has architecture that resembles medieval earth and the style of dress. Even some of the people who are born on earth have a duplicate born on Gavilla, although their personalities and experiences are often very different. Another difference is that fantasy creatures such as dragons, elves, ogres, trolls and dwarfs exist. The biggest difference is that magic exists and is commonly used by many; the other is that the technology is surprisingly advanced. Details are described later.
Gavilla's geography is almost identical to earth but with slightly different place names and no high rise cities.

Info, need to know about Gavilla

Technology
Video phones are located in most homes and there are also public access terminals that include both a video phone and a data cube.

Data cube- is similar to a computer but it is voice activated and the display is holographic and three dimensional.
There are ground and sky rail runners that are monorails that run between many of the major cities. There is electricity but much of that is run through solar panels, wind and water energy, and geothermal energy. They do not have space travel though and although robotics are developed they are seldom used since magic can do many mundane tasks more efficiently.

History: History is not really well known by most of the common people they only know a few stories and legends mostly about the Dark lady and her mate the Dark Prince Lucivon and how they ruled over most of the world with an iron fist, killing any who resisted and terrorizing many for the fun of it. The ancient Gods pooled their power and managed to seal her away but Lucivon escaped. They kept the details a secret hoping Lucivon wouldn’t learn and find a way to release her because they would not be able to seal her again. Lucivon needs to know more and many people hear horrible tales of his efforts to find her.

Politics on Gavilla is mostly made up of monarchies or dictatorships with a few warlords in the barbarian lands. Crix is a major city and is governed by a queen, but unlike other monarchies, she was elected by the people and the people vote on all the major issues with the queen as the deciding vote.

There have been many prophets and people claiming to be prophets who have made numerous prophecies over the years. Many have come true but many more still clutter up the shelves of libraries everywhere. The problem is that most were written in the old language which is only rarely used now in magic or by the ancient races. Many people, even scholars have trouble interpreting the difficult language so some of the prophecies might have been translated incorrectly. Another problem is different prophets saw things in different ways and it is hard to connect the right prophecies together but People still listen to them. There are many others but many people still look for one about something called the Darkstar, not really knowing what it is and how it can help them.

Recently many creatures such as ogres, trolls, Drow, gnolls, and other groups have increased their attacks on people and have even banded together to attack some of the larger towns. People are increasingly afraid to travel and many people are moving to the big cities for protection. Queen Imani of Crix has started recruiting as many people as she can to try to stop these attacks and a few for a special mission that she will reveal when those she deems worthy are recruited.

There are many Kingdoms scattered over north and South America. Crix is roughly centered and is kind of the governing force for much of North America. Though there are some rival kingdoms or kingdoms that are neutral. There are also the wandering gypsies and the Amazons and druids.

The magic races try to stay away from civilization. For example Dragons live in mountains and caves. Shape-shifters (cats, wolves, other) Prefer deep woods or swamps. Dwarfs also like caves but do have villages run by a council that are located on many continents.

Halflings are sometimes hermits but do often live in the main cities. Light elves are everywhere. Some are druidic and live in forests and others live in huge fantastical cities. One such city is the City of Gershawn; it is one of the few Elvin cities that welcomes scholars from all over to study in their well known universities and libraries. Dark elves tend to live secretively and not many of their cities are not easy to find.
Also variations and combinations are possible such as Dragon/human.

+So basically think of my world as a magical Earth but each country has a magic academy and is at a roughly medieval/ classical point in its development though I am sure you noticed some of the additions. It is the age of empires, each empire at its height. As long as a character fits this general concept I’ll accept new races as well, so use your imagination. Something to remember- this adventure will start like a real rp with everyone essentially at level one. Once the story starts characters will level up and gain the trust of the npcs and such and get better jobs. If someone joins up late they will have to start from scratch and earn a place in the story.

Inside the royal palace Queen Imani paces back and forth across the solar her burgundy silk gown swishing around her legs as she swept back and forth across the floor. Her long black hair was up in a twist that showed off the bone structure of her lovely face and let people see her violet eyes clearly. Her small feet, in kitten heels click clacked on the marble floor, but she abruptly stopped with a huff and sat down in one of the two stuffed armchairs. The other being occupied by one of her most trusted men, Lord Salthmar.
He was getting older, heading towards fifty, but he was still able to keep up with and even best the younger knights of the kingdom. He was about five foot seven, well muscled, with grey eyes and salt and pepper hair with a matching mustache. She relied on him for many things, he was her right hand man and she needed his advice.
Queen Imani- β€œI thought that putting out a recruitment bulletin would be a good idea. My army is overwhelmed trying to protect the country from the ever increasing attacks and I was hoping the new recruits would be able to ease their burden and perhaps even push the invading groups away entirely, but so far all we have so far are opportunists who care more for the money than for the people they are supposed to protect. Maybe this wasn’t a good idea after all.”
Lord Salthmar- β€œYour Highness,”
Queen Imani glares at him and he grins.
Salthmar- β€œImani, their really isn’t any choice. We need more people to be able to cover all the areas that need it. Perhaps more stringent guidelines for those who wish to join? Or someone you trust to oversee their efforts?”
Queen Imani- β€œYes you are right and I believe we need both measures. Jacky already asked to go along with one of the groups but she is inexperienced herself. I would feel better if you went with her, but I can’t spare you as the leader of the defense here in Crix. β€œ
Salthmar- β€œPerhaps Lord Tarlek or Barden?”
Imani- β€œThey are both on missions and are too old to oversee new recruits. β€œ She leaned her head in her hand. After a few moments though she jumped up. β€œAh! I have it. Darien! He has no assignment right now and is young but experienced for his age. He gets along well with Jacky. I think they might even have a liking for each other,” she giggles lightly, her eyes shining.
Salthmar- β€œThey won’t be on a pleasure trip.” His bushy eyebrows arched down in concern.
Imani- β€œI know that. Please call Darien right away and have him meet with us and have Jacky join us as well.”
Salthmar left to do as she had asked and returned with the two after about half an hour.
Imani-β€œI am glad you two could join us. Please be seated”
The two young people grabbed some small chairs from around the room while Salthmar and the Queen again sat in the two upholstered chairs and all sat in a circle by the fireplace. Darien is a seventeen year old young man with striking blue eyes and shoulder length wavy black hair. He is six foot, lean and muscular and he has a glide to his walk that speaks of a panther on the prowl. He has a model face and when he smiles most females can’t help but sigh. Jacky is five’ two’’ with long black hair, violet eyes, leanly muscled with a good face and figure.
Imani- β€œJacky, you know that I have been reluctant for many reasons to let you join one of the groups going out. You may have a good grasp of the sword now but you are still inexperienced, along with other reasons of which you are aware.”
Jacky nodded recognizing the warning look in the Queen’s eyes. No one must know why Jacky was in Crix or connect her to the princess, at least for now. So Jacky could only accompany people unfamiliar with the Princess.
Imani- β€œWith that in mind I do not want you in attendance at all until we find the right group and then not until they are ready for their first task. Until that time I want Darien to be in charge of finding the right people and leading them, at least at first.”
Darien- β€œI would be honored, but I am surprised you would entrust me with such an important task.”
Imani- β€œI trust you and know you won’t let me down. I feel that having both of you to keep an eye on and guide the new recruits would ease my mind.”
Jacky-β€œI will be glad to have someone I know that I can trust as well as I am sure you are, your highness, but I do hate hiding in the background. Oh well, good luck Darien, you are going to need it.”
They all stood as if there was an unspoken signal that the discussion was over.
Darien- β€œI will do my best. Where will I be doing the interviews?”
Salthmar- β€œIn the arena.”
Darien nods and they all go their separate ways. Darien’s long legs let him glide swiftly through the long stone hallway past the library and practice room, the dining room and out into the courtyard. He strode gracefully past the guards doing rounds and stopped a few to say hello and inform them to bring recruits to him. He entered the huge enclosure which was like a bowl in the ground with stone seating all around the central area where tournaments and training takes place. There were flood lights surrounding the huge field so that training could continue after dark. Darien strode down to the bench and waited for the guards to bring the first recruit to him.

There was a spark and a fire bloomed to life, lighting up the dark and exposing a rough looking man. He was in his early thirties with a thin wiry body and a rough beard. The fire enhanced the effect his scar had on the other features of his face. He then started to cough in a fit as the smoke blew into his face. He scrambled to the opposite side of the fire. He straightened out and sighed. With his luck, he was grateful he didn't explode into flames himself. He then took a swig of the flask in his hand. He had used the contents to light the fire easily, although hated wasting good whiskey.

He walked towards and leaned against the tree to think about what had transpired the past couple of days. He had gotten a notice about being "Recruited" into something or another. Half surprised the notice actually found him, he decided to see what was going on and followed it. Perhaps this army could use his experience. Maybe he can make it out of this one relatively unscathed. Only one way to find out... Tomorrow he will see what plays out.

"Say it once,
Say it twice,
Take a chance,
Roll the dice."
He roughly sang. It was the tune Zulu company sang before a battle.

Anjali moved slowly inside of a large berry bush. The thorns scratched at her but she could smell ripe berries inside of it. She took a deep breath and let the sweet smell course through her. She had to crawl a few more inches... almost there. Success! she grabbed at the berries and greedily shoved them in her mouth. They were so ripe and the taste, She thought she had died and gone to heaven. However soon all of the berries were gone. She looked around sadly at the lost. She was still hungry, and she could hear her stomach begging for food. She crawled out of the bush and brushed the twigs off of her skin and clothes. It was late afternoon and she had found no travelers that she could steal a meal from all day. She growled in frustration and stormed off to the north.

By nightfall she had still not find something to fill her stomach, she whined and looked around desperately for something to eat. She sighed. This was the 3rd day in a row she was being forced to go without a good meal. Her stamina was suffering from it. She wondered for another hour, looking in trees for squirrel nuts and stripping eatable plants bare. She was used to this, wandering in the forest and eating the plants. She was hungry but she was usually hungry. It was how she lived. She found a little grassy spot and sat down. It was a cloudless night and the stars were shining brilliantly. She reached up with one of her claws and poked at one of the stars. She wished she could be up there, flying around and being companions of the stars. She remembered when her daddy would take her up onto his back and with his powerful wings let her soar among them. A single tear rolled down her face at the memory of what she had lost. There was a shift in the wind and it brought the enticing smell of a campfire to her nose. She sat up and followed the scent. Not long after the light of a fire come into view. She dashed over to where the fire was because where there was fire there were people. and where there were people, there was food.

She was on the edge of the clearing. as she looked in she saw a neat camp site with a bag near the fire and rough looking man laying against a tree asleep. "Perfect" she thought, "I can be in and out with his food and he'll never know" she smiled at herself. She quietly entered the clearing, walking slowly and being careful her feet didn't scratch a rock and wake the man. She got to the beg and opened it up. Inside there were a lot of knives but most importantly there was FOOD. She couldn't contain herself. half starved she began to eat right there grabbing pieces of beef jerky. She hadn't had meat in three months and she considered it a blessing. As she reached in her talon scratched against a knife and made a slight metalic sound.

The fellow was having a pleasant dream. He and large black man was having a card game and betting with alcohol. He had just upped his scotch with a bottle of brandy. Suddenly, the man awoke to a sudden metallic scratch. Completely on trained impulse he threw a knife from his thigh holster and whipped the combat knife from the sheath behind him in a single movement. He held the knife in front of him in a defensive pose. He was still leaning against the tree with a knee drawn protectively up close.

As the adrenaline began to simmer down he realized that he was looking at a strange creature. She was part dragon - part elf. He never seen a dragon nor elf before and the sight of a mix between the two surprised him. He kept the knife in the defensive position. He also noticed the blade he had thrown had completely missed her but instead stuck in the ground at the near the bag. This was when he realized the girl was extremely young and seemed hungry. He also noticed the pieces of jerky in her hand.

The man's features softened and he quietly laughed to himself and withdrew his knife. "You are a lucky one, Shela." He said letting his accent slip a bit. "You could have just asked you know, I would have shared." It was true, for his Bushido compelled him to help those less fortunate. "If I had water, I'd share that... but sadly, I only carry whiskey. And that would be a lot to handle for a lesser man, much less a child." He explained. If anything, he was curious about this girl or perhaps still a bit drunk...

"My name is Yuri Saigo Honoo. Or Blaze. Whatever you prefer. Now, help yourself to the jerky in the bag, but watch out for the blades. I've long since lost my taste and we are close to the city anyway." Yuri paused for a moment to see how the child would react.

Then he added with genuine curiosity. "So what's your story?"

When the knife struck near her she froze and stared at it. If it had been any closer it could have killed her easily. she was scarred and for a second considered trying to run, but fear had frozen her in place. She could hear him speaking but she didn't understand him very well. she though she heard a name in there. but most of it was gibberish to her. she looked at the man. He was gruff but not as old she originally thought. He had an overpowering stench of metal and a some other smell that she couldn't put a name too. She had smelled this before and it meant that this man was dangerous. He could hurt her, but his eyes were full of kindness. She sat down cross legged and tried to form her tongue to match his own. She struggled with it. "I..... sp.....speak...no......." As he wasn't chasing her off she decided she could eat so she grabbed another hand full of beef jerky and ate it as fast as she could.... he didn't seem angry "t....tanks" She couldn't form the H sound with her tongue and the K was very sharp. She whimpered at herself for not being able to speak. She had tried so hard to learn what little she knew. she looked down at her feet and as the melancholy mood hit her.

Meanwhile at the arena Darien leaned back against the cold stone of the arena seats and stared up at the stars. He was so tired and had very little to show for it. So far no likely prospects had lived up to his standards. He laughed, remembering the old man who had shown up. The guy had to have been past seventy with scraggly hair and beard and very few teeth left. The man had barely been able to lift the large sword Darien had given him. Even a smaller sword had been difficult but Darien could tell that the man had once been capable with a sword. Perhaps in an army at one time or competed in tourneys. Another humorous applicant had been a boy barely seven. He had really wondered when that one had shown up and what the guards had been thinking letting the boy try out but he had found out later that the boy belong to one of the kitchen staff and had snuck over without permission.
He sighed again. Not all of the hopefuls had been so humorous; some he could tell by their look and attitude were obvious criminals. He certainly couldn't trust people that might just join the raiders and stab him in the back for the hope of more money than the kingdom was offering, and the money was pretty good. Queen Imani was sparing no expense to recruit and keep her kingdom safe.
He rubbed his aching arms and legs and stood, heading back up the stairs to the top. He looked back once more hoping tomorrow’s hopefuls would be better. He strode tiredly back to the castle and to his chambers but Jacky jumped out in front of him before he could reach his room.
Darien- "For heavens’ sake you nearly scared me out of my skull!" He had jumped a little. He was always surprised that she could get the jump on him he could usually sense a person coming. Sometimes he would catch her dark aura but that never clearly told him where she would pop up. She was as elusive as a nymph.
Jacky- She laughed a little, she loved being able to get the jump on him. He was usually so calm and collected and she loved riling him up. β€œSorry,” she smiled.
Darien- β€œYou and I both know that you are not sorry,” but he laughed a little.
Whenever he smiled he looked so dang sexy! She pulled her thoughts away from that dangerous train of thought and focused again on what she came to say.
Jacky – β€œI wondered how the interviews were going?”
Darien- β€œNot well and I really just want to get to bed.”
He waved her off and continued on to his room while Jacky just sighed and turned to go back to her own room.

After the girl spoke, Yuri tilted his head in curiosity at the girl. Not only was she strange, but apparently she had a hard time understanding and speaking his language. Either that or she was still scared from his sudden attack... Most likely the latter. When she expressed her gratitude with a simple "Tanks" Yuri felt suddenly protective of the girl. When he spoke, he spoke slowly and tried to eliminate all traces of his accent, plus he used his hands to help indicate what he meant.

Yuri pointed at himself with a thumb. "I am Blaze." Then pointed towards the fire as an example. "You can stay here for the night. I doubt anyone would harm you here." He spread his arms to indicate the camp.

"Plus, if you wish. You can go into the city with me tomorrow." He pointed towards Crix. Then a smile crossed Yuri's lips. "Have you ever been in a castle?" He pointed towards the towering building in the distance. "Because if you come, chances are you can go inside."

Yuri waited for an answer patiently.

She giggles at the mans funny movements. There was something about him that she liked, maybe it was the eyes. She felt that she could trust him, in a way she felt safe. She was able to figure out his name thanks to that and she repeated with her own. she pointed a claw at herself and just said her name "Anjali" it was the best word she could say in his language because it was her word. "I sleep........" she couldn't remember the word. It was one of the tough ones with the weird sound in the front. Ah
"here????"

She didn't understand the rest of it but she heard city which she did know what that was. It was the place with lots and lots and lots of people that threw rocks and made her cry. She was scared of it. "city....no....." she couldn't think of how to say the rest, "people............" she picked up a pebble and threw it at herself "no like anjali".........she stopped for a moment thinking of what else he said. "Whut castle." She ate another piece of beef jerky and put her hand in for more but found that she had eaten it all already. She picked up the bag and handed it back to blaze.

Yuri grabbed the bag that Anjali handed him. He reached around his back and attached it to the harness holding his piece of armor in place. "Thanks." He added.

Anjali... Sounded almost like Angel. Yet another reason to protect this girl Yuri thought. Yuri nodded at her question about sleeping here. "Of course." He said.

"As for the city and bad people... I don't think many people would hurt you with me close by." He lifted both wiry arms to show his swords. A katana and saber. He smiled to reassure her. This was another point that Bushido made him adhere to, although he would have done it regardless.

"Castle... Hmm." How would he explain this one... Ah.

Yuri reached behind him, slowly this time, and retrieved his curved knife. He set about carving into the ground with said blade and before long a rough sketch of the castle was made.

"A castle. Where important people live."

"So if you plan to coming with me, don't worry about people hurting you. I'll see to that. You will also see what a real castle is... Most children like castles." He tried his best to use his hands to convey each point.

Yuri reminisced for a moment about how thrilled he was when his father took him with him on visits to the Shogun's stronghold.

She nodded and smiled. A castle sounded fun and and might be an interesting place. Especially if it was the center of that city. She had been in it once and was amazed by all of the buildings and little suns that turned on and off by themselves. She had wanted to go back for awhile but didn't have the courage. But now blaze was here. Blaze would protect her.

She looked at Blaze, he was staring at her too. His eyes showed a mix of wonderment and kindness, it reminding Anjali of her father. She reached behind her and touched her scar it was her keepsake and the proof of his love for her. No she wasn't scared, she would follow this man to the city, she would follow him around the world and back again. She knew what she had to do "I follow Blaze? Anjali no leave Blaze. Anjali, Blaze friends, I no leave blaze"

she thought for a moment....... "Blaze teach Anjali words?" she really wanted to know how to speak more to blaze. As is it was she could just only communicate with him and maybe we'll get closer then.

She looked at him quietly. "I sleep now, late, no sleep before night" She pulled off her clothes as she always did and folded it neatly beside her She curled up with her back to the fire and Blaze and fell asleep for the night. She dreamed of visiting the castle with blaze and eating lots of sweet foods and being surrounded by lots of knights training and smiling people.

The next morning Darien reluctantly strode to the arena after breakfast.
After another disastrous interview Darien almost growled in frustration and decided to vent his frustrations with some exercise until the next interview would arrive, he just hoped someone decent would show up soon. He took his sword and stood in his favorite stance. He lunged then sliced, moving so fast the air whistled as he moved his sword in several attack and defense maneuvers. He started to add footwork moving his body and sword together as if they were one entity and he forgot everything except the exhilaration of the movements.
Guard- β€œSir Darien, I have another applicant, β€œafter no answer, β€œSir, SIR!”
Darien stopped abruptly and glared at the guard and the now cowering applicant.
Darien- β€œTake him away if he is that easily startled he won’t last long on a campaign.”
Applicant= β€œbut, but, I am Lord Daneck’s son, you can’t just…”
Darien- β€œI can and I will. Take him away.”
The guard pulled the lord away as the Lord continued to argue and started to curse throwing insults back at Darien.
Darien- β€œI am starting to wonder if anyone reasonable will show up and if this whole effort will be wasted.

β€œHave you heard mom? Queen Imani has put out a call for people to join the army.” Raos said while they sat at the dinner table. β€œYes I saw the bulletin in town this morning. Why do you ask?” she said already fully knowing why he brought it up in the first place. β€œI was thinking up of joining you know. To put everything you've taught me to good use. Explore the land fighting off evil in the name of the queen, and also to test the armor gramps made me.” Just as he finished a burly voice boomed from the front door. β€œI thought I told you call me gramps anymore.” said the voice as he walked toward the dinning room. β€œI may be old, but I could still best you any which way and don't you forget it.” A large and muscular man stepped into the room. Between the long stands of white hair, you can see the wrinkles on his face that show his old age. But his confidence and well-built torso with a copper skin reveal that he is anything but fragile.

β€œSorry grandpa Eder.” was all the Raos said as he looked Eder in the eyes from across the room. β€œSo you want to join the army do ya? It ain't all sugar and rainbows like how you described it boy. You need dedication and discipline among other things to make it in the army.” he said as he pulled up a chair and sat down. His mother began serving dinner as he sat down just after Eder. β€œI know that grandpa, but I have every intention of joining the army and confidence in the abilities that were taught to me by you and mom.” He said with a voice full of confidence. His mother Malia had finished distributing the food and sat down with a smile on her face, Eder had one as well. β€œWell then boy when did you expect to leave?” Eder said smile still on his face. β€œI want to leave to night I have my things packed and ready to go if I hurry I can make it I can make it by tomorrow mornings recruitment.” He said before he proceeded to quickly scarf down his food.

After dinner Raos donned his armor a weapon and strapped his satchel to his right side his mother and grandfather were waiting for him by the door. He said his goodbyes and took off towards Crix. Not wanting to waste his energy he quickly landed after clearing the village and started the rest of the way on foot.

Night began to fall it was the first time in years he traveled outside of town he was full of excitement and couldn't wait to arrive. He had heard stories of Crix being a city of unparallelled beauty all the more reason to get there soon. It struck him that all this time on the road and he had yet to see one traveler. β€œAre things really that bad?” He wondered to himself I suppose the true severity will be explained when I get to the city. To pass the time Raos began singing a song his father had taught him while he was still with the clan. As he sang he noticed a camp fire to side of the road, he thought nothing of it and continued along towards Crix.

From above there could be seen a lake, it wouldn't have appeared supernatural. From below though the lake could be seen floating off a cliff and no water escaped from its grasp. The people of the nearby village knew who created and held the lake in place; it was the home of a herbist or healer. To the left a small band of soldiers could be seen attempting to climbing to the small plateau leading to the lake. The smallest soldier in the flank of the group commented on the wonder above, "What in the world is that! What kind of creature could have the power to sustain water in such a way, surely it must be a monster.” The soldier in front of him responded, β€œI heard from some villagers a psychic lives here, another group of men said it was a beautiful water nymph whom leads young men to their watery grave.”

β€œNo matter what it is we have orders to bring it to Crix.” The man in the lead informed the men. The men had been sent on this mission because the recruitment letter had not reached the thing it was supposed to. They had been sent though they wished for nothing more then to be fighting on the front lines. The three men finally reached the water’s shore and the lead man spoke, β€œWe come to your home with no motive to do you bodily harm, we humbly ask that you come before us and hear our request.”

The men waited for what seem to be long hours but had only been a few minutes before there was any response. The water rippled from the center of the lake. Then a pillar of water came out of the water, as it dissipated a young lady could be seen standing there. She had hair the same color as the water that she lived in, her eyes were turquoise like that of the Mediterranean sea. She was beautiful and appeared to be graceful though she had not moved.

She nodded at the man signifying she wished him to continue. β€œYou have been recruited to assist the army in any manner you deem necessary, though we do wish you take in to account our queen’s wishes.” Lyra looked at the men two of which were staring at the lake on which she stood. She knew the lake would not collapse should she leave and it would still be here when she returned. The water was from Atlantis and had magical properties of its own. Looking at the men she nodded in agreement. She would go and see what they wished her to do, and if she wished to leave she would. Stepping of the lake she joined the men and the four of them set off down the mountain.

The city slowly came into view over the horizon the castle seemed to gleam in the rising sun. Even though it was only dawn the tow was still filled with activity with people scurrying here and there, merchants preparing their stalls for the day to come, guards patrolling the streets and children playing in the alleys. Raos made his way into the town, he was cautious even though his mother had told him that Crix was one of the more accepting kingdoms when it came to the other races, but still yet he was weary of the people and did not tarry long in the outskirts of town. Hunger began to take hold of him as his stomach grumbled and growled he had not eaten at all since leaving home last night. All things considered he arrived quicker than he expected .

Stopping at a meat stall that had already opened a leg of lamb that was hanging on display caught his attention. The stall keeper looked Raos over with a strange look on his face on of fear or possibly curiosity he didn't know. β€œHow much for this?” Raos asked pointing at the leg. The man stood there not answering for a few seconds as if he was mesmerized. β€œUmm.... ahhh... Two G-Gold pieces.” he said stumbling over his words. He reach into the pouch at his side and produced the 2 requested gold pieces and handed them to the man, and then proceeded to take the meat of the hook himself and walked away food in hand. The man let out a sigh of relief after Raos walked away sweat running down his brow.

Raos had found one of the fliers his mother had mentioned. β€œSo it's being held in the arena is it. Strange place to recruit for an army.” He thought to himself the meat in his hand almost stripped to the bone. β€œI suppose I should finish this and head there.” he said looking at leg that he had almost completely devoured. Just then he heard a whimpering in the alley behind him and out of the shadow came dog sniffing around it was nothing but skin and bones. The dog look up at him and more importantly the food in his hands he let out a heavy sigh as he gazed upon the dog and threw the bone at it's feet. β€œ I hope you appreciate it.” he said before turning and walking away.

After wandering around for awhile and asking a couple of guards for directions he finally arrived at the arena many guards were posted around especially the entrance where a huge line was flowing out of. β€œOther applicants I assume, but just to make sure...” He said under his breath as he walked to the entrance ahead of the line. When he arrived there was a man almost being dragged out while he was shouting obscenities. He stopped the guard on his way back. β€œIs this really the place where we are supposed to go to sign up?” He asked with doubt in his voice. The guard looked him over and for some reason smiled. β€œYes this is the place here come with me.” the guard bade him to follow and he did, but quickly asked. β€œWhat about that line over ...?” before he could finish he was interrupted. β€œOh don't worry about them just follow me.” He lead Raos toward the inner part of the arena smiling almost the whole way.

Yuri smiled. When Anjali told him that she and him were friends, it made his iron heart soften. He also nodded when asked to teach her words, as his were failing him at the moment. The old war dog had became a puppy.

Then he noticed her scar along her back and instinctively reached up and touched his along his eye. Seems as if both have had misfortunes. Anger began to eat at him. Who would do that to a child? For what reason? If they were still alive, Yuri would might have to have a "Discussion" with them... But right now, he would try his best to protect her from those who wanted to harm her.

As she settled in to sleep, Yuri stayed up and kept watch for a little and to mull over recent occurrences. A random army draft had earned him a young friend, even if indirectly. Yuri stretched out under the tree.

"Teach you words, Shela?" He said to himself reverting back to his accent. He had already went from Japanese to his current dialect and worked hard to erase all traces of it from his voice. Perhaps he could help her with her language as he went through it his self.

He finally drifted off into an easy sleep. He didn't dream, but was still the most pleasant sleep he had in a while. When he awoke, it was late morning. Remembering that Anjali had eaten all the provisions he brought, he decided that the best place for breakfast would be the castle.

He stood up and threw dirt on the fire. He picked up the knife he had thrown during the night and placed it back in it's holster. Making sure that Anjali wasn't up yet, he snuck a swig of whiskey from his flask. He then placed it back on it's strap at his sash-belt and checked to make sure he wasn't forgetting anything.

Feeling content, he roused Anjali from her sleep. "After you get ready, we will leave for the castle. I'll find you food there." He said using hand motions to convey what he meant. "Also... Stay close to me." He said remembering how she had said people didn't like her.

Darien had just finished testing the most recent applicant who had failed miserably, at least the man had been an honest seeming man, but the poor guy was obviously just a farmer with no experience with weapons. At the sight of Raos he almost cheered. This would be interesting.
It had been a long time since he had met someone with draconic heritage and looked forward to seeing what this guy was made of. He almost couldn’t contain his excitement but made sure that he at least appeared calm. He approached the newcomer and dismissed the guard.
β€œMy name is Darien Hawk and I am going to be in charge of the recruiting and leading the team once I find enough people who I feel meet the requirements.”
β€œPlease tell me your name and a little about yourself.” He couldn’t help wondering if this man could sense the dragon in him.

Anjali was roused by a light tap on her back. She sat up and rubbed her eyes before letting out a large yawn and stretching. She heard Blaze speaking and looked over at him. He was using those hand motions to help convey the meaning of his words. She was getting used to it and was actually able to understand him somewhat better. She understood that they were leaving for the city, she was excited because the city was wonderful but she was scared too. She unfolded her clothes and brushed the dirt off of them before slipping it back on. She jumped up and looked around. She let out a soft growl and mewing noise before realizing that she had to speak in Blazes language, not her language. She was embarrassed because she knew that there was no way for him to understand her. Anjali sighed wishing he could speak her language. "Sorry, I ready....blaze ready?"

Yuri chuckled at Anjali's growl and mew. Must be how the dragon's communicated he thought. He then patted her on the head affectionately and said "Yes, I'm ready. Let's be off." He made his way out of the woods and got on to one of the roads heading towards Crix. As he was traveling, he kept a close eye on Anjali as they walked.

Then he spoke up. "You want to learn my language?" He asked with hand motions, but already knew the answer. "Okay, we can start now." Then he began describe things around him and told her the words for them. It was rudimentary, but that was all he could do as of now.

As they neared the city, more people began to appear on the road. Yuri paid no mind to them or their expressions toward Anjali, but drew nearer to the girl protectively. He also threw his cloak behind his shoulders to expose both swords and the assortment of throwing knives, a warning not to mess with them.

He passed through into the city without much trouble, signing in with "Business" as the reason. Yuri paused to ask guards questions about the recruitment, and before long they managed to get to the arena. He noticed a line outside of one entrances and guessed that was the recruitment area. He also noticed that the line of people were no more fit to wield a weapon than a child.

He made his way up to the front of the line, disregarding the others and came upon a guard with a clipboard. He must be the one letting people in, Blaze thought.

Yuri placed his hand protectively on the shoulder of Anjali. "There is a line, you know." The guard said without looking up from the clipboard.

"I doubt all this people put together have as much experience as I do, mate." Yuri said.

The guard looked up and saw Yuri for the first time. A grizzled man with blades of all kind and a little dragon girl. "Ah! Finally. Another promising prospect. I'll need your weapons, as is the rule. And the girl, she-"

"Comes with me." Yuri cut him off. He would not leave her.

The guard winced and nodded. "Whatever. We need all the skill we can get and I'm not about to argue."

Yuri took his cloak off and wrapped the combat knife, the curved knife, hunting knife, and the holsters in it. Then he took off the two swords and placed it on top of the makeshift pack. "You had better not lose even one of them." Yuri warned. He kept the two hidden stilettos in his bracers more for Anjali's protection than his.

"Okay, this way." The guard led the two into the arena with a young man talking with a another man, yet the other was scaled.

Yuri raised a scarred eyebrow "Another dragon?"

"Darien, Here's another!" The guard called before leaving.

Yuri crouched down to Anjali's height with a smile. "Hey, after this, I'll get you something to eat. Deal?" He said with the usual motions. He kept crouching and waited patiently for his turn with this Darien. It was time to prove himself. Again.

At the bottom of the mountain the three soldiers and Lyra entered the village. The villagers eyed Lyra some was with fear while others were wary of her, she after all was not human. The men led her to a group of four horses which they then mounted, Lyra mounted a pinto who also seemed to eye her. The lead soldier spoke at this time, "If we ride quickly we could be at Crix by daybreak." Lyra nodded at the soldier and the four of them took of towards Crix.

As the sun began to light the sky Lyra and the three men had reached the city of Crix. Quickly dismounting the pinto, Lyra asked, quietly for she was not comfortable with this tongue, "Where are we to go now?" The man who was neither the smalles nor the lead answered, "You are to be taken to the battle arena, you're skills are to be tested. Did you bring a weapon with you?" Lyra shook her head, and answered, "I need no weapon, but I would like to have a cloak to cover my ears and hair, if you would be so kind." The soldier nodded. They travelled through the city and stopped only once to buy a velvet cloak which she put on and lifted the hood over her head.

It was not long before they reached a building with a long line. They approached the building and watched men being dragged out. She was only looked over once by a guard, but because she was being accompanied was not stopped. They walked to the edge of a battle arena, the men told her to wait there someone would assist her later and left. She watched them leave and disappear into a group of people. She then turned to see what was taking place in the arena. There were two men ready for battle. She watched what would soon be a battle and waited for whom ever she was to be waiting for.

Raos look over Darien from top to bottom β€œHe is going to be the leader of team? What team was is he talking about?” he wondered to himself. β€œMy name is Raos...” He felt strangely hesitant to talk. There was something familiar about this man it was a strange sensation he had not felt before. It was foreign, but at the same time calming it caught him a little off guard. β€œAnd...” Before he could continue he was interrupted by a guard . "Darien, Here's another!" The guard called before leaving. Raos quickly turned around his wings acted like fan blowing a little wind into Darien's face as he turned.

His eyes first set upon the man he was obviously a veteran of many battles that much he could gather almost instantly. Before he looked him over anymore his eyes were drawn to the girl that accompanied him. She had horns and a tail and even though he saw no scales he was positive she was part dragon like him, but her ears and seemingly natural beauty must mean that the other part of her blood is elven. β€œI didn't think that I would met another like me so soon.” He thought to himself.

Anjali looked around in amazement as Blaze pointed to things and named them. She did her best to memorize each word with a mental picture of it, but sometimes she had to ask him what something was a second time. This was the best time she had in years.

As they approached the city she settled down some, The people scared her but the city was just as amazing as she last remembered. The towering buildings, everyone going about their lives. All of the wires over the streets were unknown. When she asked Blaze what they were she got confused and didn't understand at all. One thing that really suprised her was that everyone once in awhile there would be someone talking to these little silver boxes and in each box there was another person. At one point in time she started pushing buttons on one but couldn't figure out how it works. She got frustrated and growled as she walked off startling some passerby's. Blaze laughed and she couldn't help but join in.

As they approached the castle all of the castle all of the buildings and people got more and more ornate until they were up to the castle. She was awed, It was more beautiful then she could have ever imagined it to be. As they got in line to go in she couldn't help but look at all of the people. Some looked at her weirdly or even with hostile faces and eyes. They scared her and she inched closer to Blaze.

When they were admitted into the castle she looked around with awe, Everything was so well built and gorgeous. Some parts even reminded her of her old cave home. Blaze crouched down beside her and said that they would go get some food after this. She was hungry but remembered that Blaze was here for a talk with another person. She didn't want him to leave her for even a second and she hugged him, "Anjali go with Blaze, I not leave you." she looked at blaze sadly. He had to go to talk with the other man but to do so he would have to go to him. She held on to him harder "Anjali want meet with blaze."
