Description

Gender/Role
Male, but doesn't stick well to masculinity

Occupation
Apothecary shop worker, just a shelf stocker

Birthday
Age 20, born 12 February

Power
Reed works with paper charms, just doing rudimentary spells. These incantations work on ink and paper, sometimes with a verbal chant, but are generally basic. Every part of his charm casting is important, from the paper used, to the ink used, to his brush pen, comparable to a wizard's wand. Reed isn't necessarily secretive about his abilities, but doesn't flaunt it to every person who walks by, and they're subtle enough that people assume him to be one of the few non-magic folk in town. Reed's difficulty with his magic lies with the mass amount to learn, and his own shortcomings as a magical being. Considering everything to learn, most of charm casting is just learning how to make these things, plus the verbal spells, so Reed spends a lot of his time just learning more and more about his craft. His problems with magic also come from his the lack of ability he inherited. His parents weren't magic, neither were his grandparents, or even his great grandparents, and he's only marginally related to anyone with any charm abilities, so his power is generally weak. His favorites include a good luck charm, and a confusion charm.

Appearance
Reed's most notable physical feature is his bright red hair, prompting the nicknames he's heard all his life, with some people just settling to call him "Red" instead of Reed. He's always had a babyface, so even at the age of 20 he's commonly thought to be a 16 or 17 year old, his big brown eyes never helping him. His jaw is well defined, a bit angular, with a little bit of scruff always there. He's always joked that he would look good as a satyr. For clothes, he likes to keep it simple, black or khaki pants, button up or Band T Shirt (usually white with a black design, bands being The Growlers, Modest Mouse, Shlohmo, or Grimes) and his big blue military flight jacket. He also commonly wears beanies, holding back his mane.

Sexual Orientation
Bisexual

Personality
In general, he is a very shy person. Funny, silly, friendly, but very shy. He can almost never start a conversation, especially with strangers, and even sometimes with friends. This really only affects him outside of work, though, inside of work he feels more comfortable, able to be around things he's knowledgable, confident that if someone needs something he can probably point them in the right way. Once a person gets past this wall of shyness, he's friendly and talkative, funny with a deadpan, odd sense of humor.
Honestly most people just kind of dismiss him as a dumb stoner, which isn't completely incorrect, but he's not stupid. He's thoughtful, especially if it comes to other people. He's an eternal optimist and always happy, because he thinks his times worth more than just being a mopey bummer. Despite his herbal preferences, he's very driven, and always wants to learn things, which is why he has an abundance of hobbies. While most people get really toned down and spaced while completely stoned, Reed tends to get overly driven, and even a bit more outgoing with other people. It's because of this he isn't blazed constantly, he's always anxious of what he'll do, and if he'll make a fool of himself.

Fears
He has a bit or a paralyzing fear of accidentally letting something loose ancient-magical-beast type onto the streets of Ashwald, but he's pretty careful. Other than that he doesn't feel very comfortable being a social person, but he can do stuff like hang out at parties (the few at are in town) (as long as he doesn't have to be with people the whole time, and gets to wind down afterwards)

Dreams
Currently Reed's a bit dreamless, unsure of what to do with himself, he doesn't necessarily want to leave Ashwald, but he's been in town since he was a little kid, and is itching to get out. At the same time he's found himself a nice job, a nice place to live, a friend or two, things aren't going bad so why would he want to leave.
His main point, is just that he wants to die feeling like he lived his life the best he could with his given circumstances. He worked hard, enjoyed himself, and wasn't an asshole to other people. It's a bit of a vague dream, but it keeps him from going adrift.

Hobbies
Most of Reed's time is dedicated to learn more about his craft, but outside of that he's a fan of music and movies. He's always been an adequate musician, but only at playing what's given to him, or writing very simple stuff, naturally he went straight to bass, and loves it. In High School he and Kat started a band, which was on a hiatus for the time she went AWOL, but it's back now, and they practice often. He tries to play drums sometimes, but really can't. when it comes to movies he's much more skilled, but he hardly has time to work on anything movie related. He's filmed music videos for his own, and various other bands, and owns a moderately nice camera, but hardly ever finds work. His favorite movies include Tekkon Kinkreet, Heathers, and Holy Mountain, and his favorite Directors are PT Anderson, Edgar Wright, and Wes Anderson.

Bio
Reed has always live a relatively normal life, and his parents have lived out theirs as perfectly normal people, if not a bit hippy-ish. At the age of 5 he was moved from their old Southern California home to Ashwald for reasons Reed has still never figured out, but is happy with the outcome. He still has the surfer boy slang that he somehow got at the age of 5, and some of the character quirks, but other than that feels at home in Ashwald. Growing up in the town he had accidentally learned about Ashwald's mysterious population by accident, stumbling upon someone being healed at the scene of a car accident.
As someone with normal parents, Reed was always a little bit ostracized from the groups he would've preferred to hang out with, and came out of it a little bit more self-conscious than he would be without the hard time he had socially. He wasn't too popular in High School, and often a bit bullied, but he got over the childish revenge seeking attitude with his favorite musical genre, Punk. One of his favorite bands, Bad Brains, taught him his mantra, PMA, Positive Mental Attitude.
During his senior year of High School, on a trip to Grammy's house a few towns over, Reed was told of one of his ancestors, something like his Great-Great-Great-Great Grandmother. She was a powerful witch, working with Paper Charms, eventually to be burned at the stake. Excited and horrified, Reed began to investigate paper charms, and though it's been hard and difficult work, he is able to do simple charms, and always carries a few with him.
Reed now finds himself a 20 year old without plans, but a good little life surrounding him.

Like most mornings Reed had woken up early, but laid in bed for almost an hour. This early he felt half dead and didn't want to move, but he couldn't fall back asleep. This feeling was comfortable, he'd grown accustom to his body waking up in the middle of the night, or early in the morning, but he himself always wanted to stay up late, leading to little sleep, and bags under his eyes. He'd been flipping through a book on various types of magic, different spells, none of them available to him. He was always a little bit weak, both in the sense that he was a bit scrawny, and that that his abilities weren't strong. Most of these were verbal, which were leagues above his own magic. Mainly, Reed knew how to make paper charms, which wasn't a sentence or phrase he liked repeating, so he kept it to himself unless asked. His craft was simple, but kept him sane.

On his back, covered in two throw blankets, he looked around his tiny studio apartment. It was messy, but felt like home. From his bed, a mattress on the floor with only a sheet, a pillow, and a multitude of blankets, he could see almost his entire house. To his right was his second-hand desk, covered in all kinds of paper, from everyday stuff that could be bought at any office supply store, to stuff he tried making himself from trees he couldn't pronounce the names of. The desk was also overflowing with other kinds of miscellany, pens, inks, water bottles, matches, DVDs, plus a small space for him to actually work on. To his left was the modest kitchen, messy but not dirty. In front was a large collage of papers taped to his walls, newspaper articles, both band and movie posters (his favorite being his City of Lost Children poster), receipts, almost anything he picked up and thought would look good next to everything else. The only thing he couldn't see from his bed was the front door covered by the corner of the bathroom, the only actual room in the house. Reed thought about cleaning up for a second, but dismissed the thought.

Rolling over, he got out of bed and put on some clothes, freezing even though it was starting to get warmer in town. Most of his clothes were folded neatly against the wall to his left, he grabbed his white FIDLAR T-shirt, dirty pants off the floor, and the big blue jacket he wore every day. After brushing his teeth, with iPod, phone, and wallet in various pockets, he walked out his front door.

Reed never learned how to drive, and felt like walking was too slow, so he biked nearly everywhere he went. His work was only a few blocks down, a small commute, and he didn't have to start working quite yet, so he decided to drop into the cafe only a block away from the Apothecary. He left his white bike outside the cafe without even a lock, and walked in. The radio was playing Sam Cooke's Wonderful World, a calming little lover's tune. Reed stood at the counter for a second, and after a minute he wondered if anyone was even there. Feeling a little panicked, he wondered if he should have left. In his moment of indecision, he just stood there.

A few things on the shelves had shattered over night and then a few needed to be cleaned. She tossed the broken things in the trash and rearranged the items to accommodate for the gap. Then she placed the ones that needed to be cleaned in a brown box and walked behind the counter. She gazed over towards the door. No one was coming in. Good. No time for human interaction. Diana opened up one of the drawers on her desk and grabbed the remote. She turned on her mini tv and flipped to a movie. The only thing on worth watching was Finding Nemo. Placing the remote back down, she grabbed some basic cleaner and a rag. As Nemo back talked to his dad, she started with the china tea cup.

Half way into the movie. No customers. No phone calls. No one even walked by. Diana was getting cramped up behind the desk. Putting down the clock she was cleaning she grabbed her store keys and headed towards the exit. She put up the sign that said that she was on break, and headed down to the cafe. When she got there it looked bare. Except for a guy with bright red hair. Why is he just standing there? Without a second thought, Diana walked into the cafe. She moved around the redhead and headed straight for the counter. "Where are the workers?" she muttered to herself. A sigh escaped her and she looked over to the redhead.

Without even meaning too, Diana's icy blue eye roamed him and she unintentionally put up a cold front. "Redhead. Have you seen anyone here?" That was a lot ruder than she had planned, but she wasn't taking it back. That was like apologizing. She didn't do that either. Not really waiting for an answer she grabbed her phone to text Damien

[msg: i need coffee. No one is in the cafe. Human interaction.]

She sends those messages when she is talking to another human being. It's for their safety. Just in case things go sour, Damien can come and save the day.

Reed was standing at the counter of the cafe, head kind of racing. Is this a prank? oh god, is someone going to pop out and tell me I look like an idiot? Did the guy who runs this place just leave it open and leave? Do I look like an idiot? He nervously flipped through his iPod, wanting to look like he was actually doing something, and settled on Tune Yard's "Real Thing", one headphone in. Now without the iPod to distract him, and only an ancient flip phone, he continued to just stand there.

At this point Reed had almost forgotten that he was even there for a latte or something, and was off into space. Thinking about his job, thinking about that new P T Anderson film in theaters, imagining some kind of alternate world where he could do anything, he was anywhere but at that cafe counter, and didn't even notice a girl walk in.

"Where are the workers?", Reed jumped a foot in the air, she'd only muttered it, but he'd been so off in his own world that the words almost gave him a heart attack. "Uh, I ah, uh" he mumbled, then felt a little embarrassed, realizing she probably wasn't even talking to him. A moment past with Reed's big eyes just staring at her, while she stared at him. He felt self conscious, her eyes went all over him, and he felt his back straighten, from both nervous energy and his general hope to not look like a wimpy slob in front of a girl who was actually pretty cute. His big eyes found hers, they were bright icy blue. He wondered if his face was as red as his hair. "Redhead. Have you seen anyone here?" she said, his head cocked.

"n-no" he said, while the girl went on her phone. He didn't know what to do, is this a prank? he again thought to himself. he quickly turned back to the counter, looking straight ahead. "I think uh, I don't think anyone's here" he said quietly. good going Reed.

Damien was happy that Matt liked his tiara. Hopefully his friend wouldn't lose it and he would see it when they went on dates hung out. As Damien was enjoying his turnover he was planning on locking Matthew away just to bake him goodies. His sister wouldn't mind the company. Unless he spoke to her. Then something bad would happen. Damien thought against kidnapping his best friend. He was about to eat the last of his turnover, but Matty took it. He gasped dramatically. "I was eating that. he said with a pout. Knowing Matthew he would make him more tomorrow.

"Perhaps his Majesty would like to look in the mirror." Damien raised an eyebrow, confused. Matthew was laughing his arse off so whatever just happened was worth looking at. The brunette pulled out his phone and put on the front facing camera. There was a crown on his head. He couldn't feel it, so he knew it had to do with Matt's powers. Damien chuckled. "His majesty likes the crown" Damien said still chuckling a little. He was about to put his phone away, but then it vibrated. The message was from his twin. Reading it quickly he shook his head and sighed. Quickly he responded.
[To: Twin 2]
[From: Twin 1]
[msg: Hold. I'm sending the owner over. And don't hurt the human.]

Damien sent the message and looked at his friend. "My twin and some guy are in your empty cafe. If it wasn't for my twin I would keep you in the bookstore, but she doesn't do well with human interaction. So alas. I'm sending you back to work." Damien frowned a little. He was going to miss Matt. "But we are going to hang later."

Diana moved to sit in one of the chairs. She wasn't going to stand around for no reason. Especially around some red head she didn't know. "I think uh, I don't think anyone's here" The brunette barely heard his voice. "No shit.." she muttered sarcastically. It wasn't meant to be heard, but she wouldn't apologize if he heard it. Her twin finally replied to her message. And she wasn't pleased with the answer. He was sending another human being she didn't know her way. Why on earth would he do that. Quickly she responded to the message.
[To: Twin 1]
[From: Twin 2]
[msg: No promises]

She officially pocketed her phone and looked over the redhead once more. She knows him. From somewhere. Somehow. He clearly lives in the area. Maybe he works in one of the shops. Diana didn't really care to know where he worked, she was just wondering why she recognized his face. After looking over him, her icy blue eyes found his big ones. "Owner is coming." That was all Diana needed to say. Now she was down talking to other human beings. This was already too much.

"No shit.." the girl said, he hardly heard it, but heard it well enough. He didn't say anything back, but cleared his throat, and sat down at a table, with one table between him and the girl. He could feel his face, red down to his neck. He didn't say anything more, but again flipped through his iPod. Tune Yards' album Nikki Nack was still playing, it was one of his favorite albums, probably his favorite out of 2014, even past Swans. He calmed himself down enough so that his face no longer glowed, and rationalized the past few minutes. She's just a stranger ya don't know Reed, it's not the end of the world, stop fidgeting so much, it's all good, it's fine, it's fine. Reed had at that point been in the shop for about 20 minutes, just to order a latte.

He didn't worry about being late to work, he hardly ever saw the owner, and could probably even count on a hand how many times he saw them in the past year and a half he had worked there. He practically ran the shop, though he wouldn't say that in out loud, he called himself a lowly shelf stocker, even though he knew the shop inside and out, mainly from snooping around trying to look for things for his charms. The apothecary was his safe space, if someone needed something, he could probably get it for them.

He'd again been off in his own world, already removed from his embarrassing situation, when he again heard the girl, this time not so shocked to hear her voice, "Owner is coming". He nodded, but didn't say anything. While she was looking away he looked at her. She seemed tense, kind of uptight. He kept his eyes on her for probably a second too long after she said the owner was coming, and quickly swiveled his head forward, staring at the counter. "Who even leaves their shop alone?" he said with a chuckle, "We could steal all the sugar in here. Or even better, we can just start baking" he said, continuing to laugh to himself. He hoped the good luck charm in his pocket would work, of course it wouldn't lead to something big, he could never win the lottery with his level of power, but it did tend to make things a bit easier for him. Usually things just worked out, even if it took a while. He rubbed the paper in his pocket, more out of superstition than actual magic. His eyes darted to the girl, then went back to the counter.

Matt was looking at a few dusty old tomes when Damien sighed and said " "My twin and some guy are in your empty cafe. If it wasn't for my twin I would keep you in the bookstore, but she doesn't do well with human interaction. So alas. I'm sending you back to work." Matt nodded and he tilted his Tiara in a farewell and agreed when Damien told him he wanted to see him again later that day.
"You betcha, Stop by my work later for lunch or something." Keeping up with the facade the tiara gave him Matt bowed and then left the store chucking. He kept the crown on as he whistled his way back to work and then entered through the glass door to his store. He noticed to folks waiting for him and offered them a charming smile. "Apologies folks, I didn't think anyone would want anything this early." He had forgotten about his head piece and stepped behind the counter and slipped on an apron. He had his hands on his hips and looked towards the red head he didn't know and Diana whom he only knew through pictures that Damien had shown him.
"What can I get you guys? Hey I'll also throw in a cupcake for making you wait." He felt bad for wasting their time and making them wait and so he hoped he could perhaps get a smile or two out of the man.

Clay raised an eyebrow at the sass of his friend and he resisted the urge to throw and arm around her shoulders and laugh. Instead he smiled and said "Big strong girl like yourself, I think its you that would protect me rather than reversed." For some reason when ever she was around he always wanted to touch her, but he resisted the action. Instead he fell into step beside her and let Bo walk around them as they headed to the book store. He noticed the small smell of booze and sighed a little. It was a little too early to dip into the drink but he knew that if he mentioned it, it would cause more drama than he wanted for that morning.

They walked companionably down towards the bookstore and after a few minutes silence Clay cleared his throat and said " So what are you doing after work today?" If you don't have plans we could always swing by the cafe for a drink or something." He tried to sound casual and he hoped it didn't come of too weird. They stopped in front of the book store and he gave her a small sweet smile.

Reed's jokes had fallen flat, so he and the girl sat in an awkward silence for a few minutes. He laid his head down in his arms on the table, feeling tired as ever, wanting to leave, but essentially trapped there because the owner was going to be coming. He'd been waiting there, and he didn't want to just leave empty handed. Reed was wrestling in his head about the girl. He felt mainly embarrassed about the whole situation, and wanted to get indignant, but knew that was ridiculous. Some people don't want to talk to every stranger they meet on the street. That's fine, she didn't owe him her time. He was just trying to be friendly, but it's not like she owed him a conversation because he'd tried to be nice. Everything was fine. Everything was fine. He repeated it in his head over and over. He wasn't mad. He was fine. He just wanted a drink.

A guy walked into the cafe, curly hair bouncing under a tiara. Reed felt himself blush a little bit again, which he'd been doing far too much of that morning. The guy, who Reed assumed was the owner, was cute. The universe was unfairly balanced to have a high concentration of good looking people in Ashwald. Sometimes he felt self-conscious in the town, pale skin and bright red hair, other times he felt like it was far too much for his poor queer heart. Fleeting, quick crushes were a common thing for Reed, constantly developing these crushes that never go anywhere, in fact most of the time he didn't even talk to them. "What can I get you guys? Hey I'll also throw in a cupcake for making you wait." He said. The girl jumped up and ordered hers quickly, a Chai Tea. Reed got up a little slower, and walked up to the counter after the girl moved aside. "Yeah I actually uh, a Chai Latte please" He said with a little smile. "What kind of cupcakes do you have? Anything with peanut butter is fine" He said, looking behind the counter. Sweets sounded good.

Tessa Vane

Image

Tessa lay sleeping softly against her pillow, fairies and pretty things dancing around her mind with a soft constant ringing of music....Wait, that wasn't music? That was...

Tessa's eyes sprang open. Her alarm was going off, "Sugar, sugar sugar sugar!" She exclaimed. Tessa never cursed but she found alternatives. She stumbled out of bed, her blanket helpfully tangled itself around her ankle, causing her to hit the floor with a sour thud. "Ow.." She said as clamored to her
She took a quick shower and changed into a pink and white under top, a layered hoodie with a pink trim, some dark skinny jeans and placed a matching pink knit cap over her curly mane. She wasn't always so matchy-matchy but Mattie always liked things nice and neat at his shoppe and she was happy to oblige, most cafe owners would have her in something black, white and tight.
-Gag-
But then again, most cafe owners weren't her best friend either. She slipped on her converses, grabbed her backpack purse, slung it over her shoulder and ran out the door.

Thankfully, Ashwald was a small town. So small, that the shoppes were no more then a few blocks away and she could walk -or in this case- run to work.

She slowed her pace as she saw Mattie through the window as well as a few costumers. She opened the door and that cute little bell rang alerting them of her entry.

"What can I get you guys? Hey I'll also throw in a cupcake for making you wait." Matt said and Tessa arched an eyebrow. So she wasn't the only one having one of those days, she thought as she made her way toward the back. She smiled at him.
"Morning." She beamed, as she ducked under the counter. She was odd that way, the thing opened up but she liked to duck. Why, she had no idea. She kissed her bestie's temple as she removed her hoodie, and her backpack and grabbed an apron. "Free cupcakes? What did you do?" She chided playfully.

As Matt was filling out orders for his two customers he lifted his eyes to the man at the counter and saw a smile move over his features. Success he thought to himself and he put the drinks on the counter and went to bring out his Choco-Peanut Butter cupcakes. He placed it in a small to go box and slid it towards him. "There you go." Just as he spoke Tessa with all her bouncing curls ran into the store and he chuckled as she ducked under the counter as per her norm. He had tried it once and had ended up bumping his head on the hard wood and fallen to the floor. While Tessa had seen she had been gracious enough to keep that small embarrassment a secret. He turned and bent his head a little as she kissed his temple and asked him what he had done to cause free cupcakes.
"Well..." Matt began. " I went and left the store for a bit and these poor folks were left waiting a bit. He turned back to the red head and offered his hand to shake. "Again so sorry about that. I'm Matthew but feel free to call me Matt or Mattie. I've seen you around but not really had the chance to say hello I'm afraid." He spoke as Tessa got about and got ready and lifted his hands to adjust the Tiara on his head as it had slipped a little down his forehead.

***

Clay felt a small rush of excitement as Nikita agreed to meet with him after supper and he wished her well. After she had disappeared into her work he sauntered on off feeling like a million bucks. There was still plenty of time for his rounds and he supposed he would stop in on a few stores just to wish everyone a good morning. Bo was walking along side him just as happily and they headed on further into town. He noticed a small crowd gathered in the Cafe and wondered if he should stop in but he decided against it and continued on. While crowds were great he didn't want to create too much traffic for the small place and so he continued on and noticed a billboard further on and went to check it out. The towns folk would often post upcoming events and such on the board. It was also a great place to ask for help and set up groups.

The billboard had a few sheets of paper upon it, one advertising for piano lessons and a few others for around the home help. The one that stood out was an upcoming event. Ashweld's annual Holiday BBQ. Ashweld would yearly host a large town BBQ in the town park to celebrate the return of spring. Usually it was catered by the Cafe and the Entertainment would be all sorts of different types. The music was always loud and generally it was a pretty good time. The event was scheduled for a week from then and Clay found himself grinning at the thought. He would most likely ask most of the ladies in town for a dance, and hopefully get a few yes's. Chuckling he rested his hand on Bo's head and looked down at his buddy. "Maybe something amazing will happen this year..." He mused.

Do you know that feeling when you wake up in the morning? The one where your head feels like someone took a pickaxe to it and viciously cracked it open for all the world to see how empty it is? That is called a hangover and Thomas Kirk greeted it appropiately when he woke up.

"Fuck the motherfucker!" he exclaimed, rubbing the back of his head as he sat up in his bed. He sighed as he manipulated his own mind to not mind the pain as much. He wished that he could get rid of it, but sadly, his powers only affected certain parts of the brain, namely the subconscious and higher intellectual functions. He could not stop himself from feeling pain. His apartment was a little cluttered, but surprisingly, it was not a mess. To his friends' surprise, Tom was a rather neat person.

Pulling on a random outfit from his closet, Tom stalked his way to his kitchen. His shift did not begin until the afternoon and would last until midnight so he planned on curing his hangover with a bunch of aspirin and a pot of coffee. The aspirin, he found easily enough but he cursed when he saw he was out of coffee.

"Great. I need to deal with the conformist fuckers today. Wonderful."

He did not need to drive to the cafe. The town was small enough to walk anywhere and, if he was being honest with himself, Tom would probably have sped through a red light in this state. He slammed open the door and gave his assembled peers a huge, sarcastic grin. He knew most of them from the local school system. He might have even stayted with one or two of them once his parents died. He couldn't quite remember at the moment. He went through so many homes in town, it was all a blur. He turned to Matthew. Did he punch the fucker in the face yesterday? No, it was some other fucker. Good.

"Good morning, Matty. Give me a cup of coffee. And Irish it the fuck up. And don't give me the "we don't have alcohol here" screw you, I have my own," he told him, handing him a flask along with some money.

Tessa groaned heavily as soon as he entered the door.
Not again....She thought as she watched Tom flail around his flask.
"Good morning, Matty. Give me a cup of coffee. And Irish it the fuck up. And don't give me the "we don't have alcohol here" screw you, I have my own," Tessa shook her head.
"I got this one, Matt." She told him as she grabbed the coffee pot, poured him a glass and walked up to Tom.
" Not today, Tommy." She said and held out her hand, with a look that read 'give it' referring to the flask, with an underlining look that read flask for the coffee.
"This is a cafe, not a pub, you wanna pull this, then go to work." She said and looked around, luckily there weren't any children here. "And Stop cursing, this is a family place." She told him and huffed. He would have been attractive if he weren't such a dick most of the time. She's known of him for a while, and since working here, she got to know him a little better...not in a good way.
"You wanna cure your hangover, here's the coffee, but we aren't gonna 'Irish it up' It doesn't work that way here." She told him and beckoned with her hand for him to cough up to flask.

"Not today, Tommy." A firm voice challenged him. Thomas met the waitress' challenge with a glare at the word "Tommy". He hated that nickname and she knew it.

"This is a cafe, not a pub, you wanna pull this, then go to work." She said and looked around, presumably for children. Tom rolled his eyes. As though they hadn't heard it all before. Still, he looked from the coffee to his flask and gave it up. He respected her standing up to him at least.

"You wanna cure your hangover, here's the coffee, but we aren't gonna 'Irish it up' It doesn't work that way here." She told him and beckoned with her hand for him to cough up to flask.

He laughed, a rather mirthful sound that either signaled he was about to get angry or calm down. Luckily, it was the latter. He grinned at her as he traded the flask for the coffee.

"You have guts, Tessie, I'll give you that," he told her. He waved a hand over the coffee. He raised a hand defensively, "Don't worry, I didn't add alcohol with a magic word. I just need an extra shot of caffeine."

He took a sip before raising an eyebrow at her, "Now, tell me. What is objectively wrong with cursing in front of children or drinking in this place? Why push that particular bit of morality on me?"

He regarded her with a look as though he were a normal college student looking for a debate and not a semi-alcoholic with anger management problems.

Reed, his usual silent self, was just watching the interactions, sipping on his drink. It was sweet, and as good as it usually was on the one or two other occasions he would pop his head into the store. Sometimes it was too sweet, not as a problem of creation, but as a problem of the drink itself, chai lattes were sweet anywhere. To counter this he usually ordered them with an espresso shot added in, one for an extra kick, and two because it made him laugh to sip on a drink that tasted vaguely like cigarettes. He considered asking for an added shot, but didn't know if the cafe did that, and knew it wouldn't be okay to intervene into the ongoing conversation. He felt a little trapped again, he wanted to at least introduce himself before walking out. He was shy, not anti-social.

He watched, leaning against a table, hoping it didn't look like he was enjoying the tension in the room. He had a good face on, trying not to look as uncomfortable as he felt, but maybe trying a bit too hard. Reed loved people, but was never too popular, and without practice was never very good at interactions with others. Two people came and went into the shop. The first one sounded like he like his booze, and it wasn't Reed's place to judge him, especially when Reed was a fan of certain herbal substances. The guy even said he didn't like judgements. The guy who followed the first, and took the first out like a dog on a leash, was handsome, and seemed to have the cafe's worker infatuated. Reed genuinely thought it was cute in a way that wasn't patronizing. He was a fan of crushes, either it being his own or other people's. He thought people spent too much time being unhappy, and though another person couldn't be a cure for something serious, having another person around who understood you was never a bad thing.

"My names Reed" He said, a little bit too quietly, as usually when he didn't speak for a few minutes. He cleared his throat and held out his hand to either the Matthew, or the girl who worked there. He liked her hair, the way it curled, how dark it was. His hair was wavy, notably bright. He didn't like his, but loved hers, only to blurt out "I like your hair", his hand still out.

Dammit Reed, he thought, again feeling embarrassed.

Tessa shot up straight as an adorable red head boy approached the counter. Tessa didn't embarrass easily, and her being playfully dramatic was just her usual brand of goofiness. She expected him to order, so she readied herself to it but was pleasantly surprised when he held out a hand. "My names Reed" He said, his voice was small and Tessa just wanted to hug him. He was just too cute. "I like your hair" He commented and she smiled, her brows raised some. She touched her hair "Oh my god, Aren't you cute!" She exclaimed and took his hand, like the sprite-ly little minx she was. "I'm Tessa, that's Matt." She pointed a thumb Matt behind her. She looked at his hair and beamed brightly. " I like your hair too, I wish my hair came that color. She told him with a giggle. She looked at him curiously. "Are you new here, Sugar?" She asked sweetly. She would have recognized him, and she's lived here her entire life. She would have remembered him...or she hoped she would. He spoke very softly, maybe she just didn't notice. She seriously hoped not.

Clay was just about done reading the board when all of a sudden he heard Bo make a small noise as a woman all but tumbled over him. Reflexes caused him to reach out and steady the woman, his hand grasped her arm but she moved out of his grasp and went to reterive her items. It took Clay a moment but he finally understood who the woman was, recognizing her by her red hair. Aurora. He gave her a small smile as she explained her sorry's and then turned to apologize to Bo as well. Clay chuckled as he heard Bo grumble, speaking to Aurora softly. Though she would not understand Clay heard his friend say I don't mind pretty lady. He folded his arms as she pet him, there was a soft clink of something hitting the concrete and before Clay could open his mouth to ask her if she had dropped something she was off like a rocket into the Flower Shop.

Shaking his head at her antics he bent down and received a lick from Bo as he moved his hands over the ground trying to see if she had indeed dropped something or if it had been his imagination. "Do you see anything buddy?" He asked as he watched Bo move his head closer to the ground and sniff. He grumbled after a moment telling Clay he had found something. Moving his giant furry head Clay caught sight of a gold ring on the ground and he picked it up examining it closely. It wasn't overly out of the ordinary, something he assumed Aurora would carry. Standing Clay motioned for Bo to follow him, it was only right to return it right away. He entered the small flower shop and immediately his nose was filled with the scent of fresh flowers. Grinning at the owners inside he went to tap on Aurora's shoulder.
"Excuse me ma'am? I think you may have dropped this..." He held the ring out for her to see.

Matt caught Tessa as she finished ogling Striker and obligingly caught her as she fell into his arms. He laughed and helped her back to her feet. "A girl like you could have that man wrapped around her finger I'm sure." He grinned and leaned against the counter and sighed wistfully "Though he does really have a cute butt." Matt agreed. He looked over to Reed who had spoken and was about to speak again when Tessa took over for him and went to take his hand. He felt a small flush enter his cheeks when his hair was compliemnted and he inclined his head "Thanks I grew it myself." He joked gently."Red does certainly suit you Reed. Matt agreed when Tessa spoke about Reed's hair.

He grabbed a small cloth and began to wipe down a few of the counters. Matt's pride and joy was his store and when he got the chance he would clean it as often as he could. It was a small quirk and he was pleased the Tessa was able to handle his OCD when it came to sweeping mopping and then sweeping once more, so on and so forth.

Reed shook her hand firmly, a strong handshake was the only thing that he ever did that was even remotely masculine. It was a habit he picked up from his high school Physics teacher, who one day made Reed practice 9 times on him, in order to get a "respectful and respect-worthy" handshake. "Oh my god, aren't you cute!" she said, and there went any trace of masculinity he was trying to interject. It never really bothered him being the scrawny, kinda bumbling guy, he thought macho-man-ism was kind of broken anyways. And there he was, goofy smile right back where it was, eyes monstrously big, and a light red over his freckles.

"I'm Tessa, that's Matt" she said, he'd learned Matt's name a few minutes before, and realized the box with a cupcake in it was still just sitting on the counter. He grabbed it and looked inside, already excited. He wasn't too much of a treat himself kind of guy, and when he did get himself treats it was usually something small, like the drink he had in his hand, this time he got his drink and a cupcake. He was grateful. He took a bite while Tessa said "I like your hair too, I wish my hair came that color", and Matt said Reed's hair suited him. Compliments while eating a cupcake, jesus I should come into here more often he thought to himself, smiling. The cupcake was delicious, he loved peanut butter in general, packing himself childish PB&Js in his lunch since elementary school, plus with how well the cupcake was made, it was all the better.

"Are you new here, Sugar?" Tessa asked, with Reed's mouth still full. "Oh" he mumbled, mouth still full, trying to get down his bite. "Sorry" he said, trying to swallow with his hand over his mouth. He finally got the mouthful down, "Nah" he said, his voice an octave higher than usual, he cleared his throat. "No, I uh, I've lived in town since I was a kid. I work at the Apothecary, actually" He said, still smiling. Reed didn't know a lot of people, and a lot of people around town didn't know him. Most of them were a little bit older, and went to school before him, and most of his classmates were too busy with their own lives, or had left to go to college. At 20, he was a relative baby compared to most people who wandered Ashwald's main street.

ImageMimi sat at a sleek, metal desk, her hand wrapped around a phone as she made handled the man on the other end, discussing the details for delivery and purchase. Not long after finishing with her, her fingers started running over the laptop in front of her, pressing buttons and swiping of the touchpad, opening, reading and responding to emails, the gallery was soon was receive a few more pieces to add to it's walls, most of the emails were from the auctions and delivery company asking for details and money. Mimi let out a sigh before looking to the clock on the wall and she smiled, "It's an appropriate time for lunch."

Mimi snatched a stick label and wrote a message for her boss, if they were to even wonder where she had disappeared to.
'Gone to lunch, be back in an hour.' She signed the yellow piece of paper before grabbing her bag and leaving the gallery, flipping the sign to show 'CLOSED' before closing the door and locking it behind her. She took a quick stroll down the street and arrived at the Cafe of Matthew Robinett.

She pushed the door open and let the warm air of the cafe hit her, relaxing her stressed muscles. She scanned the pastries and baked goods before approaching the counter, where Matthew himself stood and not far from him, Tessa. She smiled at Tessa and then pouted when she looked at Matthew and ordered.
"I'll have a large hot chocolate, hold the spit, and one of those ugly looking cupcakes." She then looked around the cafe for a window seat and sucked through her teeth. "I'll have them over there." She pointed to the small round table by the window, as she took out a $10 bill and passed it over the counter. "That'll do, right?" She didn't even wait for an answer before making her way over to the table she pointed to not two seconds ago.

Matt was busy listening to Reed's story and wondering how it was he had never seen the man before. Nonetheless he seemed like a nice man and he was interested in pursuing a friendship with him. It was then the door jangled open and Matt found his smile leaving his face. There in the doorway was Mimi. Straightening a little he felt his hands curl up as she sauntered on up to him. She glanced over his baked goods and then in a curt tone told him what she wanted. He wasn't given the chance to speak as she pointed to where she was going to sit. She slid the money on the counter and he decided the keep the remaining 3 dollars as tip. Tossing the money in the register he glanced over to Tessa and gave her a truly mischievous grin.

He went over and grabbed a small ceramic cup and went on over to the steamer and worked on getting some milk all nice and foamed. While the machine was working he went on over to the cupcakes and put one one a place. Then looking around to make sure no one was looking he went over to his spice rack and grabbed a small bottle of tabasco sauce. He shuffled on over to the mug and poured a good portion into what would soon be hot chocolate. Then he put it away and went about finishing her order.

Putting the drink and cupcake on a tray he lifted the counter and walked on over to Mimi. Smiling as sweetly as he could he put the cup and pastry down and put the tray by his side. "I didn't expect to see you today." He went to turn and then paused before gesturing to the food "Enjoy.

ImageMimi sat watching the street, when Matty came over to her with her stuff, she stuck her tongue out at him when he set it down in front of her. "As if I'd miss lunch." She teased and then he went to walk away, when he stopped and gestured to her food, she kissed her teeth and gave him a playful smile. "I will." She then focused her mind on his, but all she got was a calm purple, a paler shade of lavander, calm as the sea after a storm.

Mimi looked at the cupcake and squinted, whilst she glared at the cupcake distrustingly, she lifted her mug and took a sip. At first, it was okay but then the hot sauce hit her tongue, she took in a heavy breath and then turned to the window and spat the drink all over the window. "Dick!" She screamed out, through a burst of laughter. She looked at Tessa and Reed, her face had gone a rose red at her outburst, forgetting they were in public and not actually alone. "Sorry." She whispered.

She picked the mug up and walked over to the counter and passed him the mug. "Well played, Matty." She gave him a thumbs up and then grabbed her cupcake and moved table. "Although, I think you may need some anti-bacterial, I've been feeling slightly flu-ie." She teased before grabbing one of the blue rolls from behind the counter and cleaning the window. "So whatcha doing later, Maticon?" She asked as she cleaned the window. "You in the mood for alcoholism at the Black Bottle?"

Reed watched in slight horror as the girl came in, and Matthew replied to her act with a prank. Bystander syndrome hit him, and he was in no way responsible for what was about to happen. He watched Matthew pour in the hot sauce, and walk over to the girl. "As if I'd miss lunch."

"Oh fuckin' christ" Reed said under his breath. Lunch? He thought, there was no way he'd been there that long, was there? He flipped his phone open and sure enough it had been a few hours into the day. He'd had an enjoyable morning, but it turned out to be a little longer than he realized. He was too busy in his own moment to feel kind of grossed out at the spittake on the window. The girl laughed, and she seemed fine with the prank, which Reed was thankful for. He felt confused by whatever dynamic the two had going on, they acted partly like siblings, and partly like enemies. "Hey um" Reed mumbled to Tessa as Matt was dealing with the red haired girl that came in a moment before. "I've gotta run, I'm mega late for work, and I was supposed to open up this morning" He said, going through his backpack. He pulled out a piece of (normal) paper, and started scribbling some numbers on it. "Either of you can give me a call any time, I guess?" He said, usual bashful smile on. He half jogged out the door, and was already outside, about to pick up his bike, when he popped his head back into the cafe. "I'm not trying to be creepy and flirt with you on the job! I know that's a hassle! I just think you guys are cool, and I haven't had anywhere to hang out other than my apartment in a few months" he yelled, and went on his way, riding his white bicycle.

By the time he'd arrived at the Apothecary, nothing yet had happened. No one was waiting, the door wasn't opened by the owner, waiting to fire him, nothing. It was a calm place to work and usually there wasn't much of a crowd until later in the afternoon. He slipped on his powder blue apron, slightly dirty from working with different roots and meats, and set up shop for the day. He flipped the open sign, set out the "daily deals" (1/2 off on donkey fat, buy two chamomile branches get the third free, and one bottle of Argan oil for trade with a pound of Ginseng Root), and started setting things out that were low on stock, from the back. Put the Alkanet powder here, put the Allspice powder here, but put the Whole Allspice over here, and don't put any of that near the Golden Jojoba oil. Reed was listening to Abe Froman's Soup Can Phones and mindlessly stocking shelves. He wanted to smoke, but kept working. He was happy with his job.
