Malcolm "Mal" Lewis is a local singer in Seattle, where he moved to get the "American experience". He lived in France until he was eighteen, but went through an exchange program during secondary school and fell in love with the States. He speaks English, coming from a French mother and British Father, so there wasn't really anything stopping him. He had a good chunk of change saved up over the years and decided to leave everything behind in France to pursue his dream: singing.

Now, most people outside of Washington have never heard of him, but he's a big hit in Seattle. He recently did a tour of Washington, playing at dive bars and even a big venue in Seattle once. He's talking with producers in Barsuk Records, best known for their work with Death Cab for Cutie. Mal's self-produced EP, titled white house, caught the interest of Barsuk, and Mal actually got in on a couple of shelves in the local coffee shops and bookstores.

When he's not doing a gig or writing new music, he likes to garden. He sometimes takes shifts at a nearby greenhouse, and buy all his plants from that store. The owner of the greenhouse is only a few years older than him, and they've gone on a few dates. She comes to his gigs a lot, especially when they're in Seattle. She also keeps a few copies of white house at the register.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT:

Mal has a pretty comfortable style. He usually wears some sort of t-shirt or button down, with blue or black skinny jeans, and white converse or black combat boots. He always has his nose ring in, and sometimes wears a cap. When its cold out, he'll usually thrown on a jacket or a flannel, but sometimes wears long-sleeves or sweaters. He usually wears two gold rings, one on his thumb and one on his middle finger.

Overall, Mal is a pretty happy guy. Being basically alone in such a big country can be terrifying, so Mal has to be his own personal cheerleader. That was the main reason he chose to live at the apartments, because he wanted to live with someone, even if they never spoke to each other. Of course, Mal being the overly friendly guy he is, always tries to make conversation with his roommate and hang out with them.

Mal is also big on helping other people. He'll grab groceries for a struggling person, volunteer at the greenhouse, and stays long after his gigs are over to talk to fans. He's an optimistic guy. Being so happy usually leads to good thoughts about the future. He's never one to regret his actions, because he definitely dwells on his actions before doing them. He isn't impulsive, it's not in his nature. That's partially why he's so optimistic; if everyone is planned out just right, what can go wrong? Mal is responsible, especially for his actions, so if something does go wrong, he's the one to take the blame. He'll take the blame for things he didn't do as well, if he knows the person had good intentions. He's selfless in that sense. He always puts the well being of others before his own. He'll Skype his parents at 3 AM if that means it's easier for them.

He's not one to dwell on sadness. Yes, he misses his family a lot, but he doesn't think about it much. He doesn't cry much, only when he's in a lot of pain, emotionally or physically. But when he cries, he sobs. There is nothing that can console Mal when he's actually crying.

He's not an angry person either. Mal being angry is rarer than him being sad. He gets frustrated easily, and is very stubborn, but he's never been the person to shout or get physical with anyone.

But stubborn, hell yes. Especially with his music. He does find it hard to work with others in that aspect, because he wants everything to be perfect and just the way he likes it. He's easily frustrated too. When someone doesn't like his idea, or things aren't going the way he wants them to, he gets really frustrated. And writer's block. Oh man, you do not want to see Mal when he has a bad case of writer's block. The usually happy Mal becomes very grumpy, and usually wants to mope around instead of working on something else or doing something else. That's why he took up painting. When he can't find the right words to say, letting his frustrations out on a canvas does seem to help. He's an artistic guy overall, so if he can creatively express himself, he's gonna do it. Though saying that, you do not want to see him on the dance floor.

Mal usually doesn't get drunk, but when he does, he's a mess. He's overly affectionate, and always wants to dance. He's also been prone to making out with people when he's drunk, so he tries to stay away from that altogether. Plus, hangovers suck.

HISTORY
Mal's parents, Theo Lewis and Amelie Deneye, were madly in love. They met when Amelie when to England for college, and happened to frequent the bookstore that Theo owned. They married after Amelie graduated, and they had a boy, Malcolm. And three years after Malcolm, they had a daugheter, Caprice. And while the two grew up close, they also grew up with their cousins, because their large family is close-knit.

Mal could sing very well even as a child. He would entertain at his parent's parties with renditions of obscure French songs and popular American songs alike. Mal preferred to sing in French but the woman he had lessons with insisted that he sing in English. While most kids his age where playing outside or joining a sport, he was usually in singing or piano lessons. Caprice did ballet and gymnastics, and they were both extremely passionate. The whole Lewis family, whatever they did, they did with passion. Most of them just happened to be passionate about something they were good at. Mal's passion for singing never left, though opportunities in France were rare.

In his pre-teen years, his parents talked of opportunity and fame in America. They wanted their son to have a successful career, and be happy, like they were. His friends' parents would always tell Theo and Amelie how silly they were to build their son up like this. His friends wanted to be doctors, lawyers, even politicians, and he was the lone artist. Still, he did what he could. He sang at local Open Mic nights, auditioned for talent shows, and did whatever possible to make a name for himself. Then, his second year of secondary school, he was chosen for the opportunity to study abroad in America. He would live in California with a family and spend an entire school year with them. And so, for that year, he was a Richardson. Senator Richardson and his wife bounced at the opportunity to find undiscovered talent, and their son was looking to become a music producer. They tried to get their son a job by taking Malcolm to their producers and finding big talent, but Malcolm had nothing to show. He did a cover of one of his favorite French songs, and even one in English, but the producers wouldn't sign him because they didn't think his style would sell.

When he returned to France, he was even more determined to make it big there. But his parents assured him his time would come in America. Once he graduated secondary school, the money he saved up over the years, and a bit of money from his parents, allowed him to move to Seattle. He figured he could find a smaller label to sign up, and once his contract was up, move on to a bigger and better label. He's done extremely well in Seattle, and the Washington state, and had a small tour a year ago.

His plans for the future include getting signed to Barsuk Records, an independent in the Seattle area, and making it big. He has one album currently, white house, and has sold about a hundred copies. Malcolm misses France immensely, as well as his family, but he figures if he keeps going down the road he's on now, he'll be back for good soon.

and my hopes, they are high, I must keep them small / though I try to resist I still want it all

            Date: July 4, 2016

            Time: 7:14 P.M. Doors open at 8:00 P.M.

Occasion: Who doesn't love a good party? Especially the youths of the city. They're still young, they're allowed to have their fun. One might even say it's almost their duty to do so. Y'know, before life takes a hold with sharp talons and soul-sucking grip. They don't have forever to live. They might as well enjoy the time they've got. Genesis Carter, resident of the infamous apartment building on the corner of Pike's Place and Turnstone, seems to embrace this philosophy. At least, that's what one can assume given the massive rager she's arranged to have held for the fourth of July. What better opportunity to throw a great party? She's pulled out all the stops. Arranged entertainment for the event is local singer Malcolm Lewis, another resident of the apartment building. Plenty of people are invited to attend, and everyone in Seattle knows that when word gets out, more people than the ones initially invited manage to find their way into the party. But who cares, right? Everyone's just out to have a good time. Of course, all the residents of the host's apartment building are invited to attend, so shall we see what the night holds for them?

Location: The old warehouse down in the Station District. It's been a pretty popular location for parties recently.

Luca knew that he probably should have been helping to set up or something. That had been his original intention- but work had other ideas. He'd been on a day long shoot for some fancy, high-fashion magazine. He was sure that he still had glitter on his face, despite washing it two or three times. Galaxy themes were apparently going to be in for autumn/winter, so he and the other models had been made up to look like galaxies. He'd been seriously tempted to rock up to the party like that, but the thought of using public transport with gold eyebrows had made him reconsider.

He'd stopped briefly at the apartment to grab a smoothie and a whole food snack bar. He knew that there was probably leftovers in the fridge, but he couldn't handle the thought of eating any more food that he hadn't prepared himself. He'd changed into something a little more party-appropriate, before leaving the house again.

As he walked, he pulled out his phone and texted Mal.

To: Mal
On my way now- you guys need any help with finishing touches? also, do I get VIP or do I have to queue like all the ordinary folk?

Honestly, all he really wanted to do was stay at home, watch some movies, and maybe have a few drinks. He wasn't particularly in the mood for partying. But, then again, the party would offer him an opportunity to get drunk, and he wasn't going to turn that down. He'd been on edge all day- anxious about the party, anxious about the food at the shoot, anxious about far too many things. Getting drunk and forgetting all of that was looking more and more appealing as time went on. He wasn't going to admit it, but he was hoping that he would manage to get in a little earlier, just so he could have a drink or two in him before having to deal with the inevitable crowds. He was looking forward to Mal's set, sure, but it was the thought of having to deal with everything that came with it. It wasn't like him- usually, he loved to party, loved to let loose. He knew that the only reason he was worried about the party was probably the residual anxiety of the past few days, that he'd be fine. Or, at least, that was what he was going to keep telling himself, in the hope that he would actually believe it at some point.

Genesis was having a hard time containing her excitement. Today was the Fourth of July Bash. She had been planning this party for weeks. And it came together nicely. Though Genesis only invited the people living in the infamous building of Pike's Place and Turnstone, she had ordered enough food and rented a big enough party space for all of the extras. Anyone that was anyone had known this party was happening. She had even tweeted about it a couple of hours ago. So far she has endless retweets. Gen would not be shocked if this place was packed. She had even picked a famous party to make sure that people enjoyed their time. Her friends were insistent on trying to help her pay for everything. But she shut them all down. With her escorting job, paying for this was no big deal. She had worked everyday for the past two weeks just to pay for everything. She was going to need a break from escorting for a couple of weeks. One of them was way too aggressive and she needed to cover the bruises with makeup.

”Miss Carter?” Genesis turned around to see one of the caterer’s calling out to her. He had the three cakes she had order. Each were red, white, and blue for the occasion. ”Oh. You can put them over there.” Genesis said as she pointed to the table. She had gotten the best caterer’s for both the food and the sweets. She was really hoping that Matthias and Parker liked it. They were chefs and very critical. They would probably be nice about it, but she would be able to tell by their face if it was horrible. So she was praying that everything was going to taste amazing. The cake was settled down and Genesis handed over the check. She waved goodbye and then checked cake off her list. Then she turned to the stage. Genesis had everything ready for her friend Malcolm to perform. This was a great way to get his name out there and it was free entertainment. She was not expecting him for a couple more minutes, since she had arrived an hour earlier than planned. Pulling out her phone she sent a quick message to Mal.

;Mal
Everything is all set up for you when you get here! And the cake arrived. Oh I am so excited!

The message sent and she started walking around to make sure everything was ready. She continued checking everything off her list. The only thing left were guests. The alcohol was stalked up. Not only for her sake, but for everyone else's. She was expecting at least half of her guest to have some alcohol. If not she would serve them to everyone herself. Speaking of alcohol, she would need a few drinks before people showed up. Waltzing over to the drink table, she opened some champagne. She poured herself a tall glass and started drinking. She pulled her phone back out. There were a couple more messages that need to be sent out.
;Parker
Better be dressed for this party! I worked too hard for you not to be here!

;Matt
You’re coming right? I know you don’t like parties, but you to do this for me!

;Bittor
I hope you are taking me home tonight

"And when the lights start flashing like a photobooth- Bonjour? Maman, comment vas-tu ? je suis sur le point de jouer un concert , puis-je vous appeler plus tard? Je vous remercie. je t'aime. je te parlerai plus tard."

Mal has never been this nervous for a gig

Maybe it's because all of his apartment neighbors would be here. Maybe it was his mother's phone call, wishing him good luck. Maybe even the party atmosphere is heightening his nervousness. Either way, his hands are shaking and he's not really sure how to calm down. He tries taking deep breaths, but his hands won't stop shaking, and his leg is jiggling frantically, tapping strange beats into the floor of his car. He's so nervous that his phone vibrating causes him to jump. It's from Luca, his roommate. Oh yeah, he's probably the reason Mal's so nervous.

To: Luca
7:16 PM
I don't think Gen needs any help, but I could use the company. Meet me when you get here.

Mal has already picked out his songs, changed into his outfit for the show, and made dinner for Luca and himself, leaving the leftovers in the fridge. He has a big feeling that the leftovers will be untouched when he finally gets home tonight, and that spikes his anxiety even more. Luca is his best friend, and Mal may have feelings for him, but he worries the fuck out of Mal. Mal didn't understand anxiety until he started playing gigs, and he never started feeling real, harsh anxiety until he started living with Luca. It could be Luca's heavy anxiety brushing off on him, or his general feelings for the other boy. He works so hard to get Luca to eat and be healthy without being pushed out of Luca's life, which is a complicated task. It usually involves making extremely healthy dinners for them, making meals for Luca to take when he's so busy with work, and discreetly asking about Luca's eating in their normal conversation. Just thinking about it makes Mal wonder if Luca will eat anything before he comes to the party tonight.

Mal finally gets the courage to get out of his car and meet Genesis inside, especially when she texts him. She was probably already there, and trying to get her mind off of the night as well. Mal is eager to practice and forget that this will be the first time some of the people in the building will hear him sing; well, other than his debuts in the shower or his practice time in the apartment. Mal usually keeps the door open, and his voice rings through the floor, and sometimes even the building if he's loud enough. He walks through the door, finding Genesis with a tall glass of champagne, and he finds himself smiling. "Salut, mon ami. Have another glass?" He twists the hat on his head backwards, meddling with the rings on his finger afterwards.

Genesis finished her tall glass of champagne as she finished waltzing around. Everything was close to perfect. There were still a few things that needed adjusting and tinkering with, but she was practically done. Everything will be complete once the entertainment arrived. But he wasn't here yet. She pulled out her phone to call Malcolm, but then she heard his voice from behind her. Turning to face him, she greeted him with a wide smile. "Don't mind if I do." she responded heading back to the alcohol table to pour herself another tall glass. She also poured one for her friend. Genesis headed back to him and handed over the glass. "Are you nervous, love?" She asked, with a soft smile. She had been friends with him long enough to know when he is more than ready to perform, which was usually when he was alone in his apartment. And she knew when he was nervous, like before gigs and such. This just happens to be on of the times where she could tell that he was nervous.

She took a quick sip from the glass before continuing to speak. "Try and relax. All the people coming have most likely already heard you singing." Gen encouraged. He had a habit of leaving his door open while he is practicing in his room. Everyone in the apartment has most likely heard his voice and enjoyed it. She enjoyed. He had an incredible voice. It's why she shows up to his gigs and such. Well that and to be a supportive best friend.

Just then there was a knock at the door. She checked the time on her phone and realized that it was a still a bit early for anyone to be showing up. But she would not mind letting them in. "Drink your champagne and then go warm up for me please." She asked him. Genesis gave him a quick kiss on his cheek before walking over to the warehouse entrance. She finished her glass of champagne as she went to open the door. Before her stood Lloyd Lexington. She knew him because he lived on the floor below her. She hand wrote his invitation since she did not know him enough to send him a text or email. She smiled politely. ”You’re a tad bit early. Come on in.” Genesis said, moving to the side so that he could walk in. ”Enjoy some food. Partake in the alcohol. If you need anything I will be wandering around.” She told him. There were still a few more things that needed to be dealt with before she started dealing with guests. Especially because she was not ready for guest.

He had more or less reached the warehouse when Mal's reply came. Luca read it and grinned. Sometimes, he was unable to believe how Mal was able to put up with him in the way he did. Cooking them dinner according to Luca's habits, checking up on Luca in a way that made Luca feel cared for as opposed to anxious. Then again, maybe the only reason he didn't get mad or completely shut down was because it was Mal asking. Sure, it was complicated. But, complicated feelings aside, Mal was his best friend. The singer was one of the few people that completely got Mal and all of his flaws, and didn't treat him any differently for it. And perhaps the fact that their relationship was seldom awkward only helped that.

As he turned the corner, his phone started ringing. He checked it, about to ignore the call, but groaned when he saw it was his agent. This was one call he couldn't really hang up on. He answered it, doing his best to hide his annoyance. He was surprisingly successful- well, either that, or the agent was too frazzled to care.

As he talked, pacing outside the warehouse, someone walked past. Blonde hair, not that familiar. Not worth paying any attention to. Not with the conversation at hand.

"Frank- Frank, I have to go, I'm supposed to be somewhere now. Just- I'll email my schedule to you in the morning, okay? And you can re-arrange it or do whatever you have to do to fit it in. Okay. Okay. Thanks," he said, hanging up. The phone call had only made him feel worse. Someone had called to rearrange a shoot and move it to a day when he was busy enough as it was, which was completely disrupted everything. And, of course, everything was important.

He turned his phone on silent and strode up to the side door. It was half-open, so he pushed it open. His eyes first found Mal, and he grinned. It was only as he stepped into the warehouse itself that he spotted Genesis and the blonde from before- Lloyd, was it? He definitely lived in the apartment building, Luca just wasn't sure where.

"Hey guys. Sorry, agent called with important business, otherwise I would have been here ten minutes ago," he admitted. "Ooh, champagne? Don't mind if I do," he said as he reached Mal, pouring himself a tall glass and taking a sip. Champagne used to have a much more potent effect on him- but after having it at so many events and shoots and god knows what else, it may as well have been water. That was why he always preferred the stronger stuff.

"So, superstar," Luca said, turning to Mal. "How're the nerves?"

Mal takes the glass from her hands, sipping on it carefully. The taste of good champagne is always to be savored, but his nervous mind begs him to chug the hard liquor at the table. When Genesis asks if he's nervous, he can't help but laugh. What makes you think that? Mal jokes, trying to restrain himself from downing the rest of this champagne and pouring another glass. If he was going to get drunk tonight, it would have to be later; he couldn't risk his performance.

Genesis' words are calming, but right now, he's really regretting getting here early. "I shouldn't be nervous, but I'm always nervous before a show, no matter who it is." Before Genesis and Mal can delve further into his nervousness, someone else arrives. Mal's heart beat quickens, hoping it'll be Luca to his rescue. Mal lingers longer in the front of the venue, looking to see who enters. But it's not Luca, not even close. Lloyd Lexington, another resident of Pike's Place, walks through the door, and Mal clams up. If he was nervous before, he's downright anxious now. Mal and Lloyd have never been on good terms, and it's not because of Mal. Lloyd seems to think of Mal as some sort of fool, and is always trying to knock him down a few inches. Mal has never been the one to degrade another, so he never gives Lloyd the satisfaction of getting a reaction out of Mal. But right now, the nervousness breaks through and he can't stand to be in the same room for another minute. If Lloyd made a single comment about his singing tonight, or anything related to his career, Mal wouldn't hesitate in reacting. Badly.

Before Mal can run and hide backstage, Luca pops in, and the grin he receives from the model relaxes him immediately. It's probably unhealthy how easily Luca can change his mood, but there are a lot of unhealthy things in their lives right now, and this one just happened to feel good. Luca explains why he's later than expected, but Mal doesn't really care. Just having his roommate in person is satisfactory.

Then Luca acknowledges him personally, and Mal can't help but blush when he's called a superstar. He downs the glass of champagne and pours another for himself. "Just about to warm up, care to join?" Mal offers Luca, ignoring his question about the nerves. Mal grabs Luca's hand and leads him backstage, relishing the sound of their footsteps reverberating and the sight of keyboards and microphones. He sits down and starts playing the opening song, forgetting where he is, losing himself in the music. Music is his safe space, his happy place. Music is his obsession, and he wouldn't be who he is without it. "Kissing up on fences and up on walls, on the way home, I guess it's all working out..."

Days off were weird. Half the time Matthias remained entirely unsure of what to do with himself during the hours he typically allotted for work, and just did what he would be doing anyway: cooking. He only worked six days a week, sure, so having at least one free day shouldn't have been any sort of shock to him, but the issue in this case was that this typically wasn't his day off. A friend and fellow chef had asked to swap shifts with him (something about a baby shower), so Matthias had done the only thing he could do, really, in that situation. Said, "Yeah, of course, man, I've got you covered. Have fun."

And the whole thing had been just slightly confusing. He was used to order, routine, and the minor disruption had been just a touch off-putting. It left him working a dinner shift on a day he usually worked a lunch shift and with a day off two days before the one he usually had. Which is why he found himself where he was then. In the kitchen of his apartment, hogging the stove (not that it mattered, really, Nova was never really itching to use it anyway). He was deeply involved in his work, beads of sweat lining his forehead, brow furrowed; he hardly noticed when his phone on the kitchen counter buzzed. He set the burner to simmer to take a quick glance at the message he'd just received.

                        xxxxxxxxxx;PARKER
xxxHEY YOU'RE ALL READY FOR THE PARTY TONIGHT RIGHT?? I'M COMING OVER NOW.

He muttered a curse under his breath, glanced back at his concoction cooking in the sautee pan, and then looked down at his attire. Eh. Good enough. He was about to respond to her text when another one popped up on his screen. From Genesis. He remembered the whole affair in full force now. He hadn't planned on attending because of the way his work schedule had happened, but since he was freeβ€” and clearly more than one person was expecting him to be thereβ€” it was a decent enough plan for the evening. He'd rather be there anyway, to watch out for Gen and Parker if anything went wrong, or anyone else for that matter. Plus, if he'd remembered correctly, Mal was supposed to be the entertainment for the evening, and it'd be nice to finally see a show of his. He responded to both texts and then, for good measure, sent a new one to Mal.

                        xxxxxxxxxx;PARKER
xxxUH. YEAH. READY ENOUGH. TAKING MY BIKE OR YOUR CAR?

                        xxxxxxxxxx;GEN
xxxOF COURSE. WOULDN'T MISS IT FOR THE WORLD. AND I DEFINITELY DID NOT FORGET ABOUT IT UNTIL NOW.

                        xxxxxxxxxx; MAL
xxxIT'LL BE NICE TO FINALLY SEE A LIVE PERFORMANCE OF YOURS.

He turned back to the stove and finally shut off the burner for good. He was just pulling a tupperware container for it out of his cupboards when Parker busted in through the door.

                        ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Parker forgot things. She forgot a lot of things. It was just a fact of life. Which was why she was so pleased that she hadn't forgotten the party that night. Granted, the hostess was her roommate, which would have made forgetting about it entirely very difficult. But still, that didn't erase the touch of pride she felt. She had even carved out enough time to pick a good outfit for the event, a chic summer dress in a nice shade of blue to kind of match the theme. Matthias' text, however worried her. She had just finished shooting off a quick response to Gen:

                        xxxxxxxxxx; GEN!✭
xxxDEF!!! JUST GRABBING MATT RN AND WE'LL BE ON OUR WAY!! SO EXCITED :OOO

when Matt's text came in. She didn't bother responding given that she was less than a minute out from knocking on his front door.

She didn't actually knock, of course. "Definitely taking my car. I'm still scared I'll fall off your motorcycle." She frowned, tapping her fingers anxiously as she watched him seal away whatever sweet-smelling stirfry he had been making.
"That's ridiculous," he said, furrowing his brow, and she huffed.
"Whatever, c'mon. Gen's waiting for us. We're on the VIP list." She laughed, and he graced her with a small chuckle in return, nabbing his jacket off the hook by the door.

"Gimme a sec," he muttered to Parker before turning to call out in the general direction of Octavia's room. "Nova, we're headed to Genesis' party. See you there, maybe, I guess."
"You should totally come!" Parker chipped in. "Gonna be a blast!"
Matt nudged her out the door, and off they went.

It didn't take them long to arrive at the warehouse, which was still relatively empty, though there were already a few familiar faces populating the area. Parker made her way toward Genesis as soon as she spotted her, and Matthias followed.

"Hey, babe!" she said, wrapping Gen in a quick hug. "Everything looks amazing! This party is going to rock, I can tell."
Matt nodded his agreement, half distracted as he glanced around the room, taking note of all the people already there. He turned his attention back to the conversation at hand. "Yeah," he said, offering Gen a smile. "Looks great."

ImageDowning her third beer with a final gulp Kadriyan peeked a quick look at her cellphone to see if Macy had ever got her message, but according to the device the last text message she'd received was from her coworker the night before. With a sigh and an obligatory eye-roll Kadri returned her cellphone to her over sized orange purse and pondered all the possibilities for the lack of response to her text.

***1. Maybe she saw it... and was super busy in class or whatever and couldn't respond.
***2. She probably just hasn't looked at her phone yet.
***3. She literally opened my message, looked at it and closed it just to fuck with me. And she's probably there already.

Kadri decided childishly on the last option which she knew was also the least probable but somethig about Macy just rubbed her the wrong way and she couldn't help stoking the perceived rivalry in her mind, and only in her mind, she would never dare initiate any drama for peace and quiet's sake.

Moving past the inexplicable disappearance of her roommate Kadri got a brilliant idea for a little party favor she would bring for Mal in return for his kindess when she first moved in. Upon moving in and unpacking her first box Kadri heard the buzzer screech in a cacophonous chime, immediately she thought it must've been for Macy, seeing as no one in Seattle knew her address other than her neighbors and employers but when she answered there was Mal with a fresh bouquet of the most beautiful pastel lavender and lilies in a clear vase tied up in light yellow ribbon. Kadriyan found the simple gesture to be so deeply touching, being that the only housewarming gift she'd ever received was liquor, and the idea of welcoming a neighbor to the neighborhood, especially as a bred New York was extremely foreign and strictly cinematic and Hollywood spun to her, but there he was grinning sweetly from ear to ear with a bouquet and kind words. He was definitely alright in her book.

As a gesture of good faith Kadri unlinked her opalite key charm from her car key chain that she always felt brought her good energy and peace. She hoped he wouldn't mind something as simple as a charm from her own collection, but it meant a lot to her and she hoped that it would bring positivity for him as well. The properties of the particular stone are said to increase psychic ability and stabilize mood swings and anxiety if used for healing, it's also said to purify the blood of the kidneys, which she was sure would definitely come in handy tonight if the party was as much of a rager as the tweets and invites implied. She really only half believed in the hocus pocus of it all, but it never hurt to have good energy around.

After un-clipping the rock from her keys she found a small silver gift bag and plopped it inside with tissue paper that she kept handy from past birthdays and holidays specifically for moments like this. After wrapping the gift she grabbed her keys and headed out the door of her first floor loft and made her way snappily down the street, wanting to arrive before Mal performed.

About fifteen minutes later Kadri made it to the large industrial warehouse that reminded her warmly of New York and the amazing parties that happened absolutely anywhere in the city as long as there was the promise of music and booze. Walking through the doors that were wide open and presenting the extremely festive spread of decorations and foods for the ocassion Kadriyan could tell that Genesis put in a insane amount of work and hours into this project of hers, and she had to admit she probably couldn't do any better and was squarely impressed. As the curly fro-ed brunnette walked in heads tilted lightly to trace the sound of her footsteps, she waved and smiled lightly at everyone as she made her way up to a group of her neighbor's who stood chatting and making small talk. She knew a few of there names already, she knew Genesis of course, and kind of knew the blonde girl who stood beside her, but only in passing really. Last but not least was Matthias who she teasingly called Thor, but only to her friends and Macy when mention of him arose. She didn't think it was a half bad nickname, he was a dead-ringer for the chiseled Demi-God, but the killer look he wore on his modelesque face always stopped her short of sharing her, most likely patronizing pet name.

"Hey guys, Happy 4th of July!" Kadri said with a cheery inflection and a smile as she approached the group.
"This is really fucking awesome Genesis, you out did yourself! Ever thought of getting into party planning?" She asked, scanning the room for Mal but from the looks of it he hadn't arrived or maybe was backstage perfecting his set before leisurely taking part in the festivities. She made a mental note to seek him out, but first she'd take part in a bit of festivities herself and mix a drink at the open bar.

Before Luca could even answer Mal's question about going backstage, Mal had grabbed his hand and was already dragging him backstage. Luca didn't resist. Mal's singing relaxed him just as much as alcohol did, but with the additional benefit of getting to be around Mal. He kept sipping at his champagne as he picked his way across cables and the likes, afraid of yanking out something vital and ruining the show for everyone, but especially for Mal.

When Mal sat down, Luca did the same, still with his champagne glass in hand. As soon as Mal opened his mouth and started to sing, Luca felt all the anxiety and the tension drain from his body. He'd really fallen on his feet with Mal as a roommate. He was almost always singing- in the shower, practicing in his room, under his breath as he cooked or whatever- and it was a stress relief for Luca. There was something incredibly soothing about it, amplifying Mal's already grounding presence. No matter how bad his day had been, walking into the apartment grounded him. He always had Mal's EP on his phone, and frequently played it at shoots. He joked about promoting his roommate. He needed it to ensure that he wouldn't freak out on set.

It was easy to forget all that awaited them outside. Luca wished his life could be like this all the time- so quiet, so peaceful, so relaxing. With a glass of champagne in his hand and his best friend only ever a few feet from him. He was pretty sure that there was something a little unhealthy about how dependent he was on Mal- but he'd been exposed to things a hell of a lot unhealthier. Not that he'd ever tell Mal that. He needed to keep up the pretence of a glamorous, if stressful, life around Mal. The darker side of Luca's life got pretty damn dark sometimes. Part of him knew that, if Mal made the big time, he'd probably be exposed to it anyway- but he couldn't bring himself to be the one to show Mal the ugly side of fame.

When Mal finished, Luca found himself grinning. "Can I just, like, carry you around everywhere with me? Because you're so good at relieving stress, it's actually a little ridiculous," he said, running his fingers through his hair and sipping out of his champagne glass. "You're gonna kill it tonight, I know it," he added, grinning at his roommate.

This was not going well. Lloyd stood in the center of the room, watching the environment slowly slip out of his favor. This is precisely why he despised being late.

Everything began to falter as soon as the door opened. He was originally greeted by the smiling figure of a slightly scantily dressed dark-haired woman he could only assume to be Genesis Carter. She greeted him, turned to offer him the variety of alcoholic beverages and a choice of the selection of food. But he wasn't listening. Not anymore. As soon as the door opened, he spotted someone he dreaded to see. Malcom Lewis, the resident dreamer and the local halfwit. It occurred to him he might show, everyone in Genesis' apartment building had been invited, Malcom included. She probably had invited him over for his musical 'talents'.

"Great, only seconds in, and we're already promising a headache." He thought.

Even as he tried to ignore the unwelcome intrusion, another figure emerged from the now-open door behind him. Luca. Luca walked straight up to Malcom, and before anyone knew it, Malcom was dragging the newest arrival away towards the backstage entrance. Something was very clearly going on between them, the only question remained as to what, but for now it didn't concern him. Now it was back to being an empty room with nothing more than him and Genesis, who was fluttering about, adding slight last-minute adjustments to everything.

Regaining his composure, he walked over towards the alcohol table, grabbing a short glass. He quickly scanned through the drink selection, his eyes landing on a particular drink in the back. "Bell's Premium Blended Scotch?"

While the drink wasn't the most expensive, it certainly was high class, and it was a surprise she had brought one to the party. He quickly pulled the drink from it's place and poured it into his glass. He wasted little time with ice before lightly taking a sip. It was indeed real. The onset of this information left him honestly surprised and as he turned towards his hostess, only to stop dead in his tracks.

Two new arrivals had just moseyed in, shouting their greetings to the generous hostess. He recognized them both. They lived in his apartment building, and had seen them come and go, but as he was one of the newer additions to the building, he hadn't yet found the time, nor the need to go and meet with them. But, then once again, someone new walked into the fray. Another woman walked into the warehouse, giving an excited greeting to the increasingly excited Genesis. And, with a quick glance at his watch and a quicker glance at the wide open doors, new arrivals would be walking nearly every second until dawn.

Lloyd sighed, looked down at his drink, and tipped it back.

It took a moment for the burning sensation that was scotch to coarse through his system, but once the fire-water had passed, he poured himself another drink, forced another smile to his lips, and walked into the crowd, faking as much jubilance as he could.

"Yes, happy Fourth of July!"
He turned looking excitedly from one face to the next, "Parker and Matthias, right?" He stopped at the newest arrival, "And I don't believe we've met before."

"And finally, our gracious host!" He turned towards Genesis. "Genesis was it?"

Genesis finished all the finishing touches. Everything was perfect and she did not think she could do any better. Once Mal was done warming up, they would all have entertainment. Of course she also had back up for whenever he was grew tired of being the only musician playing. It was just a Spotify mix, nothing special. The reason why Malcolm was the only paid entertainment was because she did not want him battling with some other musician. The whole point of this was to make sure everyone else knew how good he was. This was getting his name out. By the end of the night, everyone will be dying to show up to one of his gigs.

Genesis will have to remind him not to forget about her once he becomes big and famous. Another glass of champagne and the brunette was finally starting to feel warm. Eventually she will move to something stronger. Sipping it, she walked around watching more people waltzed through the doors. Luca had arrived and went straight for the alcohol and then with Mal backstage. No doubt he was here to make sure that Mal did not get so nervous and run away. Gen had no problems with Luca. They were not the best of friends but they were friendly due to their mutual friend. "Hey, babe!” Genesis turned around and returned the hug given to her by one of her close friends Parker who was followed by her other close friend Matthias. She had received messages from them earlier letting her know they were on their way. She was glad for the reassurance. Gen would not let them hear the end of it if they hadn’t shown up. They had a habit of forgetting which is why she texted them reminders about it. ”Thanks. Do you know how hard it was to find food that tasted almost half as good as yours Matty?” She teased. It did take a lot of work though. He was amazing at cooking so she could not just pick anything.

"Hey guys, Happy 4th of July!" The voice came from Kadri. Another one of Genesis’ friends. She is super sweet and like Gen, likes to drink. Another compliment was made her way about the party and the brunette giggled a tad in response. ”I don’t think I could do this all the time. This was stressful enough.” She responded, with a smile still on her face. She took another sip from her drink when Lloyd approached the small group that was forming. "And finally, our gracious host!" It was official. She was done taking compliments from everyone. It was not that big of a deal. If they knew who she was connected to then they would not be so surprised by how well this turned out. ”Yeah. And you pointed out Parker and Matthias. And that pretty girl right there is Kadri.” Gen said with a smile. ”You all better eat all the food and drink all of the alcohol.” She warned them all. Then she remembered that Genesis needed to make sure that Mal would perform. She quickly pulled out her phone.
;Mal
Not to rush your warm up, love. But there is a crowd waiting to hear your voice. Break a leg!

Mal doesn't realize it, but his anxious demeanor immediately falls when he practices with Luca in the room. Having the boy's presence is simply a relaxer for him. He seems to have the same effect on his roommate, because Mal notices out of the corner of his eye that Luca relaxes too. The fact that they can affect each other so easily is most likely unhealthy, but it hasn't bothered either of them. But Mal knows that Luca keeps a part of himself locked away from Mal, and he has to pretend like it doesn't bother him. Even though Mal gives everything of himself, he can't expect anyone to do the same. Still, he wants Luca to confide and trust in him.

Once Mal finishes his set, Luca comments how much of a stress reliever Mal is, and assures him he'll "kill it" tonight with the set. Mal blushes, running a hand through his own hair. He sees his phone light up with a text, and realizes it's Matthias. The two are good friends, cooking buddies mainly, but they never text much. They enjoy each other's company most of all. But the text sends him into nervousness once more. Now Mal knew there would be one person that's never seen him live. "Oh mon dieu, oh mon dieu…" Mal repeats the worrisome exclamation under his breath, nervously shifting through his music to find something to settle him. Then he looks up, and is settled. Just by a quick glance at Luca. I really need to figure out what's going on here, Mal thinks to himself.
To: Matthias
so psyched! i'll be lookin for ya onstage.

"As long as you're here, I have nothing to worry about." Mal replies to Luca, finding one of his the songs he was planning to play in French, the one he wrote on the edge of bustling Paris nightlife. This one required a guitar, and he plucks one from the set of instruments backstage. Before he can start, however, his phone buzzes, another text from Genesis. Is he ready? "Am I ready?" He accidentally whispers to himself, looking to Luca with bulging eyes.

Well, now or never.

xx"does the pain weigh out the pride?

It wasn't hard to tell that Mal's rapid French muttering was distressed. Luca could understand his friend pretty well- he'd done some basic French in school, and he'd picked up on a few bits and pieces while living with Mal. However, he didn't even need the translation to see that Mal was upset. But, before he could say or do anything, Mal glances up at him, and seemed to relax. Luca drains his glass as Mal sends the text and shrugs at his comment.

"I'll stick around then. I'll just try not to get in anyone's way," he said, shrugging a little and grinning. He wasn't going to admit it, but he was glad to not have to go back into the crowd. Sticking side stage, where he wouldn't have to deal with anywhere near the same amount of people, seemed much more appealing. He'd be fine once Mal was done, once he wasn't entirely alone out in the crowd.

The second text seemed to only freak out Mal more, and a glance at Luca did nothing to calm it. Luca went over to him, putting his hands on the other boy's shoulders, looking straight into his eyes. "Mal. Listen to me. You've got this, okay? I'll be side stage all the time. If you're half as good as you are in the shower, then you'll blow them away. You're a fantastic musician. Everybody's going to love you, you hear me? Any time I've played White House on a shoot or anything like that, literally everyone has asked about it." Half of the people he'd been working with earlier were planning on coming, but Luca decided not to mention that. "And if you faint or freak out, I'm gonna have to come on and try and entertain, and I don't think anybody wants that," he added, grinning. "So, you go out there, you blow them all away, and you make sure that they keep coming back." He wasn't usually one for giving pep talks, but he wanted to make sure that Mal gave the best show he could. Luca wanted tonight to be a success so badly. He wanted Mal's name to get even bigger than it was. Complicated feelings aside, he just wanted his best friend to fulfill his dreams.

ImageRosaline 's room was a tornado of clothing and chaos as she quickly tried to throw together one of her many messy, multicolored ensables. A pair of tights, a nice skirt and some bright orange platforms later and she was dressed for the night. Unfortunately for her she had fallen asleep and naps always mean losing half a day when it comes to her.
She did her makeup quickly, minimally and efficiently and topped off her red head with a pretty flower crown because why not?The more colorful, the more loud, the better. She knew that her roommate, Lloyd had probably already left for the party because he was a meanie that never thought to include her. That was fine though, he knew he'd hear about it later.
Rosaline chuckled as she sent a quick text to him:

"I hope you know how much of a butthole you are for not waking me XP"

She ran out as fast as she could out the door and to the elevator that would take her all the way down to the first floor and onto the street where her bug was waiting for her. She hopped in and drove the short distance to the warehouse where the party would be held and she smiled at the old building. Old things were her favorite.
As she climbed out of the vehicle she stretched her hands and popped her knuckles. Playing the piano as often as she did is pretty hard on the joints and she's had her fair share of cramps. She walked up to the stairs to the floor the party was on and shook out the last of her cramps, they wouldn't bother her tonight. Rosaline didn't take very many opportunities to socialize with her fellow tennants, as she really valued personal time, but when she did she made sure to live it up. She ran up the stairs as quickly as possible as the mantra "latelatelatelatelatelatelatelate" punctuated every step. She finally reached the door and took a deep breath, making sure to straighten her flower crown, and threw open the door. Immediately her eagle eyes settled on the small group in the center and the many people mulling about, all waiting on Mal to rock the stage. She pulled out her phone before moving as sent him a quick text:
"Good Luck sweetie! You'll do great!<3"

She put her phone in her purse and walked up behind Lloyd and leaned her head over his shoulder, "MMMMMHMMMMM"
She laughed and walked around him and smiled to him and everyone,
"Evening everyone! It's a pretty day for a party huh?"

Matthias couldn’t help but be distracted, even as more and more people joined the small group surrounding the host. All of a sudden, a wave of tension washed over him; he seemed to recall why exactly it was he disliked attending parties of any sort. Even among people he knew relatively well, he still felt mildly uncomfortable, and he knew it’d be particularly awful when he was surrounded by strangers.

Before the influx of people, there was a wisecrack from Genesis. A comment about his general cooking skill, and likely also about his general snobbiness towards others’ food. He laughed, a genuine laugh, and opened his mouth to reply, but never got the chance as someone came in with a loud greeting.

First came the curly-haired girl from the first floor. He knew her by her gait, always impressed with her casual ease and elegance in basic movement. But they’d rarely spoken, and the most Matt did was offer a small smile at her appearance.

Then it was the latest addition to their hodge-podge of tenants. From overheard conversations, Matt had picked out his name to be Lloyd, but he knew nothing about the man beyond that. They’d never spoken, and to be perfectly honest, it was no accident. His presence left Matt with an unsettling feeling deep within his stomach, and Matt tended to listen to his gut instinct. It had rarely steered him wrong, and as always, his motto steered heavily in the direction of β€œbetter safe than sorry.” He merely nodded when Lloyd greeted him by name and Genesis confirmed it, though Parker had no reservations when it came to him. She dealt with him as she did with any unknown peopleβ€” with a smile and a peppy greeting. He frowned. He always tried to get her to proceed with a little more caution, at the very least, but his lessons rarely held any weight. She continued on her path, striking up conversation where she went, regardless of location or person.

More casual conversation ensued, to which Matt wasn’t particularly tuned into. Still, he couldn’t help the frequent glances over his shoulder; the habit was hardwired into him, always wary of crowds and any large swaths of people. He knew he’d make his way to the back wall when Mal began his set, despite the fact that he had been told by the boy that he’d be looking for him in the front row. It was something that simply couldn’t be helped.

A bright head of red hair appeared, adding to Matt’s ever increasing discomfort. He’d never had the chance to get to know her too well either, but he didn’t lament the fact. She came off a child to him, someone difficult to deal with. He had plenty of those sorts in his life already.

Time passed faster than he had expected, and then the lights were dimming. He checked his wristwatch. Eight fifteen. Damn. He wanted to get to a wall before the crowd concentrated and made it difficult to maneuver through the throngs of people, so he leaned forward and lightly ruffled Gen’s hair, his silent method of saying he’d be leaving their small group, and clapped Parker on the shoulder. With a curt nod to the rest of the people around him, he slid off into the general darkness of the warehouse. He’d find his way back to Gen and Parker later, after Mal’s set was over and done with, but he knew he’d hate the experience of being part of a bouncing audience. There’d still be plenty of time for socialization after the set, the party was bound to go on into the early hours of the morning, and Mal wouldn’t be on nearly that long. No, with his back against a surface, he was content enough to wait the hour it would take to listen to the concert. And it helped that he was sure he’d enjoy the boy’s singing as well.

Mal bites his lip, then stops, realizing he's trying not to kiss Luca right now. The model's words and gestures soothed him like no other. The thought of Luca playing white house at his shoots gives him different jitters, jitters he can't be worrying about right now. He nods at Luca, smiling, and gives him a very meaningful hug before the curtains pulled open and the lights shone in his face.

And though those lights are bright, he can see every face, more faces he'd seen at a gig in a long time. Remembering Luca's presence side stage, and the lovely residents of his apartment complex, he plays the first note, and he's gone.

It happened during every performance. His nervous, his other thinking, anything not pertaining to the keyboard in front of him and the microphone he sang into, it all went out the door. It was almost as if a little singer lived inside him and turned off Mal so he could play human for the performance. Everyone seemed to be enjoying it, but even if they didn't, it didn't matter to Mal. He could play to Luca in their apartment, or a stadium filled with Earth's population, not one opinion mattered to him when he performed. Of course, after the show, a million thoughts of did they like it did they like it did they like it will bounce in his head, but that's for after. For now, he switches flawless from song to song, basking in the applause with a humble smile. From English to French, slow and soft to fast and loud, they all blended into one picture into Mal's musical mind.

His performance finally comes to the last song, and though some people yell for an encore, he's sure it's from one of his friends in the audience and not actual fans, it can't be, he thanks the audience for their time and their ears, and bounces off stage. It doesn't take long for the dreadful anxiety to kick in. And with the pounding adrenaline in his veins, he has to slow down, placing his palms against a backstage table and letting his chest thump air in and out, in and out. So many people just watched him perform, so many strangers that have probably never heard of Malcolm Lewis or white house. Should he have brought CDs? Would people want autographs? Does it seem vain to think that people will want those things from him?

For a second, he almost forgets Luca is there, so caught up in his haphazard breathing and wild thoughts. But then, he turns and looks at the other boy, and smiles with a full set of pearly whites, and says, "so, what'd you think, Lu?"

When it was time for the show to begin, Luca retreated to side stage, keeping his eyes fixed on Mal. A transformation seemed to occur within Mal, like someone else, someone less shy, someone who relished in the limelight, took control. Luca would have been lying if he denied the pride (among other things) in his heart as he watched his best friend play. He knew that if he still would have enjoyed the show out in the crowd- but here, it felt more intimate, like they were just in the apartment. He was used to hearing Mal sing and play, but it didn't make him appreciate it any less.

The sheer range of emotions, of styles, hell, of languages, in Mal's performance only added to the musician's raw skill, and when it finished, Luca was applauding and cheering as loud as anyone else, if not louder. He always hoped that things never changed between them- that no matter what else happened between them, they would stay friends over anything else. That no matter the size of the venue, he'd always be there, doing exactly what he always did.

He just laughs to himself as Mal bounds offstage, and follows him backstage, keeping his distance and allowing him to catch his breath. At Mal's grin, Luca just shakes his head and laughs, going over to wrap an arm around his best friend's shoulders.

"That was incredible, Mal. You'll be selling out venues before you know it," he said. "I'll have to fight to get your attention, with all those screaming fans," he teased. Even though he was joking, he still had to admit that it was a thought that genuinely did keep him up at night. Would Mal forget him with all the fame? Would they make a promise to stick together, to stay friends, one that they both would forget about until they met at some event, completely different people? He knew that it was far more likely than the contrary- but he still told himself that it wouldn't happen.

"Come on, I think celebratory drinks are in order," he said, shaking the thoughts from his mind and straightening up. "Champagne or something stronger?" He asked, raising an eyebrow and grinning at Mal. He knew what happened when they both got drunk- but he also didn't care.

Mal rolls his eyes at Luca's comment. "You're not some two-bit model, Lu. How could anyone forget you?" Mal smiles, wrapping his arm around Luca's shoulder. He immediately regrets those words, they're too imitate, too meaningful. He definitely needs a drink. "Let's see if you can beat me in a shot contest, because I beat your ass last time, Griffiths." Mal replies to Luca's question about drinks. Once they open the door, a flood of people are there, wanting to talk to Mal. He maneuvers through the crowd as politely as possible, thanking everyone for their kind comments and taking pictures when asked.

Mal loved being in the crowd, especially with people who love his music. Even though he'd rather be three shots deep at this point, he can't deny being around people who want to talk to him, who want to hear about his process or what his favorite song is or even just how much they like his music. But when Mal finally makes it over to the alcohol table with Luca, and asks the bartender for five shot glasses of vodka. Before he even realizes it, Mal is drunk.

After Luca creams him in the shot contest, with Mal almost gagging on the fourth and fifth one, Mal grabbed a mixed drink and pulled Luca out onto the dancefloor. At some point, a producer came up to him, a Barsuk Records man. He was a younger one, maybe late-twenties at the oldest, and in Mal's drunken stupor, he accepts a date with him. They would go out for coffee tomorrow, and discuss a record deal with Barsuk. Mal was so happy, he could have kissed the man. The man, Brian he thought, fell into the crowd again, his card burning in Mal's pocket. The night so far is a blur for Mal, filled with lots of drinking and dancing, both he loves dearly.

Mal is practically swaying at this point. He leans close into Luca, grinning drunkenly. "Great party, huh, Lu? I'm having a great time." Mal giggles, his breath hot and sickly sweet in Luca's ear. The party has changed from a concert-like atmosphere to a total free-for-all, and Mal can commend Genesis for such a great party. Mal could never plan something this big and this awesome, he'd have to thank her when he sees her.

Mal's reply left Luca a little stunned. They were both much too sober for that kind of talk. At the comment about their last shot competition, Luca's face lit up in a grin. "May I remind you that I was already drunk at that point anyway?" He teased, following Mal out into the crowd. There was a few pangs of anxiety as he made his way through the crowd, keeping his head down. A few people recognised him, called his name, and he looked up and said his hellos, but mostly following Mal to the drinks table.

It was only here that his anxiety began to fade. The vodka helped, that, was for sure. He knocked back the five shots with ease, glad that he'd actually eaten before coming out. Mal struggled with the last two, making Luca grin. He grabbed his own drink and accompanied Mal out to the dance floor.

It took him a while to feel the full effects of the alcohol. It warmed him from the inside, erased the constant anxiety that sat in the pit of his stomach, and helped him to properly relax. This was why he loved to party- he could actually forget everything that was troubling him in his own life, and just feel good for a few hours. The fact that he was with Mal only amplified that.

Even when a stranger came up to Mal to discuss a meeting or something, Luca just sipped at his drink for the entirety of the conversation. There was no discomfort, no awkwardness. He was just a friend, half-dancing as he continued to drink.

Mal definitely appeared to be feeling the alcohol a lot more than Luca- he was practically swaying, while Luca was a few drinks away from that point. But Luca just laughed to himself, even as Mal leaned against him. It felt good to be here, with everyone else from the apartment block, and to be able to just party and celebrate with his friends. And with Mal, of course. He didn't necessarily understand what the two of them had going on, but he didn't care either. He just knew that he loved Mal as a friend, and that he was extremely glad to have him in his life. All the other feelings just added to that.

"I can tell," Luca replied to Mal, laughing a little. "You're such a lightweight, Mal," he added teasingly, ruffling Mal's hair idly. "I don't know what I'm going to do with you," he said.

ImageKadri watched as Genesis and Parker, hand in hand made there was across the floor and over to the corner where Matthias stood for the length of Mal's performance taking in what everyone expected to be an absolutely breathtaking display. Kadri was more enthralled by Mal than she even imagined she would be, and was surely not disappointed. She made note to speak to him about buying a CD to keep in her apartment to prance around to on her days off and lazy Saturday mornings. He was talented, and that was without a doubt.

Redirecting herself from the stage and to the dance floor he she noticed before her now stood only Rose who she wasn't very familiar with but would be happy to drink with if the offer enticed her. However greeted by the thumping bass line of One Dance by Drake blaring throughout the warehouse and the look on Rose's face the springy haired brunette could tell her request had been lost in the cacophony of sounds around them so she smiled politely at the girl and gestured to the bar before mumbling a quick adieu and finally headed on her merry way to get up to no good all by her lonesome. With giddy anticipation Kadriyan too a look at the selection whilst raising her eyebrow, instantly accepting the challenge of the wide spread. Kadri reached for the clear plastic cup at the end of the table and filled it with a bit of ice, just enough to cover the bottom. She hated nothing more than watered down alcohol, but in this heat pouring a drink without ice wasn't an enticing option.

Scanning the table like a spy would scan the crowd for his target Kadri set her sights on the Russian Standard vodka lined up next to other more notable but less potent brands, next she spoted the Kahlua and lastly garnered the Irish cream. Kadriyan poured 2 ounces the vodka and Kahlua first, watching as the ice rose to the top and topped it off with an ounce of irish cream over the ice for a touch of sweetness. This was one of her favorite drinks as it reminded her of her youth in NYC. As a preteen she could remember watching as the Starbucks franchise took over every block in Manhattan like a wildfire. At first she would roll her eyes jadely and scoff at the place, because that's what seasoned New Yorkers did. It was practically sin to pledge allegiance to a artisan cup of coffee over the brew made in your local bodega or the grungy cart on the corner. That was until curiosity killed the cat so to speak but one sip of the 5 dollar house blend and satisfaction brought her right on back. Nothing made her happier than visiting the hipster haven to get her over priced coffee fix, and now as an adult Kadri has upgraded to something similar but a whole lot stronger and that was her signature drink The White Russian made up of her favorite liquor, Kahlua, a coffee flavored spirit with vodka and a touch of irish cream to satisfy her sweettooth. With her drink in hand she proudly took a sip and scanned the room for any sign of Malcom.

Swaying her hips to the song and humming lightly in between sips Kadri scanned the place a couple times over before finally finding the virtuoso. It was needless to say the place was absolutely packed and practically jumping from all the good vibes and drunken dancers jiving around. Kadri waved him down as she made her way through the crowd, she wasn't really sure if he'd seen her or not being that his gaze and movements were notably all over the place which seemed to her like the blissful climax of a buzz about to go south if nursed with anymore liquor. She giggled at his giddiness on the way and when she finally reached him flashed a bright smile and offered him a congratulatory hug and afterwards turned and waved at Luca.

"I'm Kadriyan! Nice to meet you!" She said, giving him a quick appraisal before turning her attention back to Mal. He was a looker that was for sure, and a trendy dresser to boot. He also seemed to be really close to Mal so she logged that as a good sign as well, and resigned to get to know him better before the night came to a close. It was her mission above practically all things to create a friend group in Seattle, she knew it would be key to her survival and happiness if she was going to be so far away from home.

"You were amazing up there, I am so in love with your sound! I am going to need a copy of your album to play in the dressing room for the girls at the club, they're going to love it!" Kadri said as she patted his arm in a playful way and spoke each syllable with a extra ounce of earnestness. She knew that he probably had heard it all a thousand times before but when it came to artists and their craft she took it really personally to encourage them all she could because she knew that could make the ultimate difference between breaking the mold and shrinking away in a cookie cutter image society has of you like she did for most of her life.

"Oh, and I got you something. I hope you don't mind... it's kind of lame and I meant to give it to you before you got up there and did your thing, but still, I hope you like it. Kadri rambled as she removed the tiny silver bag from her purse and presented it too him, nervously awaiting his appraisal of it.

Mal giggles at Luca's comment towards his tolerance of alcohol. "Hey, less alcohol means more money in my pocket for rent, Mr. Model." Mal teases, all too aware in the back of his mind how ridiculous he's acting. THe front of his mind is too clouded by alcohol. Luca comments that he doesn't know what to do with Mal, the singer adopts a seductive smirk on his face. "I have a few ideas." Mal whispers in Luca's ear, winking at him. Before he can further these antics, one of his neighbors walks up to him and Luca, Kadriyan Hassan. Mal brought flowers to her when she moved in.

Kadri opened her arms for a hug, which Mal accepts happily, glowing not only because of the alcohol, but her unabashed praise towards his music. She introduces herself to Luca, taking a nice sweep of his appearance, and then continuing to ramble on about Mal, only making him even more happy to be in her presence. "Kadri you are literally the sweetest person ever! Come by our apartment tomorrow and I will for sure give you a copy." Mal giggles at the girl.

She presents him with a little present, and he gasps, immediately pulling the charm from the bag. Could Kadri be any more sweet? He pulls her into another hug, his arms wrapping tight around her in a very genuine hug. "Oh my god Kadri quit talking, this is the best! I love it so much, I'm definitely- Lu, make sure I put this on my keys, please." Mal takes the charm and stuffs it into the breast pocket of his jacket, just so he doesn't have to keep up with the bag or have it be stolen.

He trashes the bag, and grabs Luca and Kadri by the hands, leading them into the middle of the dance floor. "C'mon you squares, let's have a good time!"

Drunk Mal was nothing new to Luca, much like drunk Luca was nothing new to Mal. There were some nights when they'd get drunk together, just for the hell of it. Sometimes, Luca wondered if there was more to them getting drunk together- but that was something that his sober mind didn't want to dwell on, and something that his drunken mind moved away from naturally. At the seductive smile and the wink, Luca found himself grinning. But before he could reply or even do much more than grin, there was a newcomer.

She was vaguely familiar, although he was pretty sure that they'd never been formally introduced. He was pretty sure that she lived in the same apartment block as him, but she hadn't been there long. "Luca, and likewise," he said, taking a sip out of his nearly-empty drink as he and Mal started to talk. It was unusual that he hadn't met her if she and Mal were friendly- but then again, he had been unusually busy lately. He could have missed a newcomer pretty easily. Something that felt an awful lot like jealousy simmered in the pit of his stomach, but he shrugged it off, keeping his grin on his face for when Mal told him to make sure he put the charm on the keys. The jealousy didn't disappear as Mal grabbed both Luca and Kadri and dragged them to the dancefloor.

He knew that he was being irrational. He didn't know why he was feeling jealous. Mal was his best friend. Hell, they shared an apartment, so it was unlikely that she'd actually be able to steal Mal's friendship away from Luca. Was it fear that Mal would spend time with her that he would have otherwise spent keeping Luca in check, making sure that he ate and that he wasn't getting overly worked up over something ridiculous? Or was it just to do with his drunken, overly emotional self? That was something he needed to dwell on while sober. He knew that his sober self would probably refuse to think about it, but it was better to say that he would than simply forget it altogether.

He drained the rest of his drink and trashed the cup before finally letting loose and allowing himself to dance with Mal and Kadri. Too much of his sober life was spent overthinking and hanging back, he'd be damned if it was to seep into his drunken self as well.

Time: 9:39 A.M.

Occasion: Who doesn't love a good party? The question was asked. And answered. Well, to some extent. No one from the apartment building on the corner of Pike's Place and Turnstone doesn't, that's for sure.

The initial performance by local singer Malcolm Lewis really set the ambiance for the rest of the night, which was pretty spectacular. Host Genesis Carter truly brought her A-game, with a phenomenal food and drink selection, and one of the best DJs in the city. Few frowns were seen throughout the night, as people enjoyed the good vibes within the warehouse, simply dancing and letting loose. But now it's time a second question.

Who actually cares for the day after a party? It sucks in more than one way. For instance, for those who drank much more than they could handle, the morning is accompanied by a pounding migraine. Others may have made some questionable choices whilst under the influence. Some drank responsibly enough, but it's still never fun to wake up after a night of great fun and have to return to a mundane life of normalcy. Just how are the residents of the apartment building getting on?

LUCA & MAL
a collaboration post ; The Writer's Voice and iCat

Luca was slow to awake. He was more tired than he cared to admit, just like he had been for the past few days. He needed this day or so off to catch his breath and to catch up on sleep. His head was starting to ache, but he felt like that would be cured by a few more hours of sleep.

A few hours it appeared he wasn't going to get, however. By the time he came to the realisation that he hadn't had anywhere near enough sleep, he was too awake to go back. He'd also realised that he was not in his own room, but in Mal's. His hand reached out of it's own accord, but it only found empty bed. He wasn't entirely surprised to find himself waking up in his roommate's bed- it was an all too frequent occurrence after a party. He was seldom the last to wake up, though, and Mal not still being in bed was unusual. He knew that the fact that they had a usual was a sign that things were probably a little more complicated than they cared to admit, but that wasn't something he wanted to think about this early.

As tempting as going back to sleep was, he was too awake and thinking too much to go back to sleep. So, instead, he rolled out of the bed and retrieved his clothes. Dressed only in his jeans, he pushed open the door, running his hand through his hair. "Mal?"

The boy in question, Mal, perked up at the sound of Luca calling for him. Mal instantly blushed at the sight of his roommate in just his jeans, coming from a room that definitely wasn't his roommate's room. Mal subconsciously rubs at the hickey he found on his neck this morning, wondering if he got it at the party or if he and Luca had a little fun before they went to bed. Honestly, he couldn't remember most nights where he woke up in Luca's bed, or Luca woke up in his, this night also being one of those forgotten escapades. Whatever happened after they stopped dancing at the party with Kadri was lost to his unconscious mind.

Mal popped out of the bathroom, already half ready in a white button-up and his favorite shorts. "Good morning sunshine. Sorry, I had to get ready early, didn't want to wake you. I guess I got myself a date last night." Mal finally answers the model's call, returning into the bathroom. He had to carefully style his curls, even though they were about to be mostly covered by a hat, and find his special cologne he kept for dates.

Mal quickly peeks his head out at Luca again. "I made you some breakfast, Lu, it's on the stove. There's also some fruit in the fridge if you want it."

"I'm not hungry," Luca found himself replying. It wasn't a lie, but he also knew that Mal wouldn't necessarily believe him. Or care, for that matter. Luca was never hungry after nights out, even yesterday, when he hadn't even had dinner. But he was already ready for the lecture on why he needed breakfast, even on a down day like today.

Mal sighed, he should have known Luca would say that. The boy needed to eat more, but Mal sitll wasn't sure how to get him to eat without pushing too hard. He'd seen what happened when Luca got pushed too hard. "Well, it's there if you want it. I'm starting to think you don't like my cooking." Mal joked, winking at Luca before grabbing his shoes and the hat he was planning to wear.

"Who's the date with?" Luca asked, leaning against the bathroom door. He could vaguely remember talking to a stranger, but not anything about them. His memory of everything after he finished his drink and started dancing was patchy at best. He could remember bits and pieces, but nothing too significant. He tried to tell himself that he didn't care who it was with, and that it was probably just some music person. But even so, he couldn't suppress the first few pangs of jealousy.

Mal hoped Luca didn't hear his breath catch in his throat. Feelings of doubt, if he should really go on this date if he felt this way about Luca, all start crowding his mind. He pushes them away; though Luca may wake up in his bed, he didn't express any of these romantic feelings sober. Mal was not going to pine for a boy that didn't want him. "Well, I had totally forgotten until he called this morning to remind me. It's a music producer from Barsuk, that music label I really want to be signed to. If i remember correctly, he was really cute."

"So, is it a date? Or a meeting?" Luca asked, raising an eyebrow. "Or are you planning on using it as both?" He teased, grinning at Mal. Part of him felt like these kinds of jokes were wrong, considering where he'd woken up. It was a mess. But he was a mess as well. That was exactly why he wasn't even considering mentioning that he liked him as more than just a friend or... whatever last night had been. Whatever any other night had been. Seeing Mal with anybody else would be hard, but it was a hell of a lot better than expecting him to stick with Luca for the foreseeable future. He deserved better than that.

"I dunno, depends on how it goes. I've had my eye on someone else but I'm not sure if they even know." Mal looks at Luca out of the corner of his eye. Well, if anything, this producer could become everything to Mal. Things were about to change, but he isn't sure if it's for better or worse.
