- PERSONALITY SUMMARY: Richard Earle is a fairly upfront man. He won't lie to your face if he can help it, and if he's going to kill you, chances are you'll at least have a chance to defend yourself. He is against violence towards children, and unlike many in his line of work, refuses to employ them. He also detests drugs, and suggesting such a venture is a fast track to the hospital. Despite his typical honesty, he is a suspicious sort, slow to trust and is very good at doing the dance usually required in his line of work. His dedication to his family and their welfare are second to none and he has tried to instill the same values in his children. He tries to be the pillar his family can lean on, but does not afford them the courtesy of knowing his woes.
After two wars, killing's easier than smoking this cigarette.

- ISSUE: (The Spare), typical problems with the business.
- ANY WANTED CONNECTIONS?: A snake in the grass, close confidant.
- DID THEY SERVE DURING THE WAR?: Richard served in the Great War as a young man for two years, and naturally volunteered once the second war broke out. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and never moved beyond, though he was influential enough to have his sons placed under his command. Despite the massive toll it took on so many others, he came through it no different. He says his time in the first made the second seem like a field day.
- SIGNIFICANT MOMENTS IN THEIR LIFE: His father's "discipline" molded his violent and suspicious tendencies. The Great War made him the man he is. Meeting Amelia was the best thing that ever happened to him. And the births of his children have been the happiest moments in his life.
- THE PAST: Richard enlisted in the military as soon as he was able in order to put some distance between he and his father. The pair never saw eye to eye and, frankly, the man was an abusive dick with no ambition. Jonathon let his family name flounder and only kept the barest hold on the businesses that were handed down to him. His timid mother did little to soften things, but Richard could never blame her for simply keeping her head down.
When the war ended, Richard became a sanctioned boxed for a time, but he had no taste for the arbitrary rules and nuances, and instead became a bare-knuckle fighter in the underground. He made a decent living from his winnings and the best placed for him by others. It was during this time that he began traveling to other cities, testing his mettle and gaining a reputation for his straightforward aggression. After one particularly lopsided fight, drunk off his victory, and whiskey, with far more money to spend than he'd had in ages, he made his way from pub to pub, pissing money away on women and drink. In the small hours of the morning, after the alcohol had worn off and the adrenaline had drained from his system, he spotted her. Amelia. Everything happened so fast that it was almost a blur, but in the end, Richard had fallen head over heels for the young woman, and before he knew it, the two of them were wed and waiting on their first child.
It was Amelia's urging more than anything, that led him back to his father. He found that his mother had passed away and that his father's alcoholism had only grown, while the remainder of his businesses were dwindling. For a couple years, father and son worked side by side and Richard helped buoy Jonathon's floundering, having taken to the trade intuitively.
Known only to Amelia, Richard and Jonathon got into a drunken, heated argument one night over her former profession. Richard naturally defended his wife, while his father ranted and raved about "Not wanting a cheap harlot in the family." With such a pronouncement made, Jonathon struck Amelia. Enraged, Richard fell back on his pugilist knowledge and punched him with enough force to stop his heart and dumped him down a flight of stairs. A few days later, Richard inherited everything from his father, including a surprising insurance policy (after the death had been ruled as an accidental, drunken fall), which Richard used to expand and refurbish everything Jonathan had squandered.
The pair began to ruthlessly rebuild the Earle name and expand their dominion over the coming years, and through it all have tried to remain a close knit family and instill prudence and pragmatism in their children. Though he is open and honest with her in nearly all things, he has kept one secret from his wife over the years. James and Richard went to Amelia's old home and attended one of their bare-knuckle fights. After its conclusion, the two of them happened upon Amelia's sister, Catherine. She instantly recognized Richard and stormed over to him, venting her pent up fury at, what she viewed as, the destruction of her family. After the woman tried guilting him into giving her money and blaming him for all her misfortune, Richard told her in no uncertain terms that if she ever came near any member of his family, he would have her killed. Catherine's husband didn't appreciate the turn of events and the evening ended with Catherine sobbing over his unconscious and bloody form after James had finished with him.
When the second great war happened, Richard left everything in Amelia's hands, and was not surprised at how well she managed on her own. Of the war itself, there isn't much to tell. The same old song and dance, though he laments the effect that it had on his sons, though James seems to have coped with things better.
As it stands now, he is trying to solidify his family's hold on the city and expand further, leaving a dynasty of sorts for his eldest. Though he has been grooming the man to replace him, Richard is far from ready to relinquish control and is hard and sharp as ever despite his advancing age. - POSSIBLE PLOT POINTS: Betrayal, revenge, mind games.
