Fulfilling the wildest dreams of those who can afford it.

a character in “This Roman Life We Live”, as played by Nima

Description

Full name: Lucius Patavinus Coisis
Age: 23
Birth month and day: June 23
Race: Cisalpine Gaul (Northern Italy)
General appearance:
Image

A tall, slim and stretching figure sculpted of cold white marble flesh peaks out seductively beneath thin layers of cool exotic cloth. Subtle yet distinguished, with more surprises to find if only one were to truly drink in his form. Thanks to his master's hospitality, Coisis seems to have reached his full potential in terms of height and physique. With the gait of a dancer, so relaxed and confident, Coisis walks before you without seeming to have a worry on his mind. His steps comfortably fall into their natural place. His strong hands are barren of any of his wealth, being in constant use in the baths. The pristine condition of his skin betrays his diligence in work, as the bath soaps and olive oil have softened his appearance. His deft eyes betray his carefree attitude. Even that occasional smile, slyly curling into an alluring smirk could send delicious chills up spines. Moreover, his delicate touch speaks volumes against his sobriety as well, as it electrifies your skin with a pent up passion boiling within.

Social Class: Liberti.

Coisis was captured in Northern Italy in the province of Gallia Cisalpina. He was sold into slavery and came under the service of Lucius Patavinus of the wealthy town of Patavium. He maintained a good “relationship” with his master as an obedient slave, affording him his formal manumission around the age of 20 as his master’s once lavish attention moved elsewhere, yet his compassion for him remained.

Occupation: Balneator/Leno (Bath House Attendant, Pimp)

“Keeping the dirty clean”

Hoping to mingle and be known among the higher social circles of Ostia Antica, the determined Coisis quickly worked his way into operating a modest bathhouse that benefitted him much more after his expansion to other areas of rather discreet “service”. Aside from no longer being destitute, his ambition also provides many sensual needs to the population of Ostia Antica who can afford to make their wildest dreams come true.

Personality and character traits:

Quiet and reserve are two qualities which make him seem much more intimidating than he really is. His ears and eyes are always watching and filing away information. While his own unique commentary is seldom, his replies are usually courteous and yet sublime with implicit meaning. He rarely surrenders himself to any outburst of emotion and keeps his secrets well, two qualities that have facilitated the creation of an almost impeccable reputation. He is rather soft-spoken and as he was taken into slavery as a young boy, his accent is somewhat weak, yet enough so to add to his mystery. He has a seemingly insatiable sexual appetite and interest in sexuality, to such an extent that it propelled him towards the creation of his brothel-bathhouse business. Although a gracious host and lover of many, beneath his convivial attitude, flecked in his honeyed brown irises, lies feelings few truly understand.

Skills and special knowledge:

-Some knowledge of Cisalpine Gallic dialects
-Soap and perfume making
-Massage
-Sexual Services

Hopes and ambitions:
-To become well-known and make connections with members of the higher social circles in order to secure some standing that may raise him above his lowly status as a Liberti.
-Employment of foreign men and women such as himself, in order to better their standard of living.

So begins...

Gods, he's just what I need! Coisis exclaimed internally, the basket of olives nearly slipping from his grasp. A glimmer in his eyes was all that resounded of his reaction as his registered Nikolas' figure in the distance. His locks shimmered with all of the gold his clients would be willing to give for him. Perhaps he might be interested? Coisis' mind came to rest on the notion. As a former slave who had gone through a similar course of events, he would never force any into prostitution. Nevertheless, it could be a surprisingly lucrative prospect, especially for those with the right qualities.

He had been looking at olives at the market to press for olive oil for the baths, before he had been distracted, at least. He rolled a plump olive in his hand and brought it to his nose to smell. He then set the basket down, nodding sternly to the seller. He would be back. Draping his cloth over him, he began to weave through boisterous waves of crowds, each of which gathered around a particular vendor. Upon reaching the slave platforms, he slipped like a knife through the crowds, sliding skillfully past colorful sleeves and glittering trinkets to the front.

He himself, a man not known to need any ostentation to ameliorate his value, wore a simple and subdued garb and a few jeweled pieces, albeit of good caliber. He quickly glanced Arcadius, who he had seen talking with the fair-haired boy prior and was now talking to a potential buyer, a patrician whom he was not familiar with. He seems feisty. Perhaps not very malleable... Coisis pondered, chuckling to himself. His eyes shot back to Nikolas, and a slight smirk couldn't help but form on his lips. He would simply watch, melding into the crowd, and see how much the crowd value Nikolas first. He caught another set of eyes gazing at Nikolas who seemed not only particularly wishful, but to his horror, also having the potential to buy. His heart leapt inside. Although still maintaining a pleasant smile, the edges on the coins in his hands bit into his palm as his grasped them white-knuckled. He carefully approached the interested lady.
"Well, would you have a look at that one!" He commented casually, pointing at Nikolas.

Nikolas stared at the two potential buyers in a calmed mixture of curiosity and respect. The woman, however, frightened him a bit. Even back in Greece, it was the women in his family that often scared him the most, and by Hades choice, the reason he was in this mess in the first place. Glancing over to the male, the fear seemed to subside.

Males were easy to deal with. As long as you did as they asked, they were kept pretty sated. He would pay no mind to conversation, or make any move to put in input.

“Well, would you have a look at that one!”

This immediately caught his handlers attention. Quickly, the shorter of the two came forward, calloused hands rubbing together in anticipation of a business deal.

“Hello there sir,” He addressed, taking no interest in the young lady at all. The brunette was not his, and had no promise of gaining the pair any money. “You wouldn't happen to be interested in my Little Flower, now would you?”

Aurelia looked over to the man who had spoken "Hm? Oh yes, nice" She smiled, before turning back to Nikolas, trying to ignore the other man- the market was a dangerous place, and she was frightful of everyone who approached her. It had been silly of her to come without alerting someone in the house and "And what might you be good for dear? I really can't spend money on a slave I can't use... after all, I am good with my money" She sighed lightly and ran a hand though her hair before she looked over Nikolas "Wonder how much you'll be worth." She giggled and looked over to the handler, raising her eyebrows in question.

The handler smiled to the young lady, before looking up to Nikolas.

“Go on boy, tell the nice people what you can do.” He quipped, giving the poor boy a stern look. Slowly Nikolas began to shrink back before straightening himself.

“I um,” He gently licked his pinked lips, trying to find his voice again. “I-I'm no good at fighting ma'am, but I do know my way around a home...” His mixed eyes glanced to the male, giving him a slightly hopeful look before returning to their place on his handler.

The Taller came forward, shoving his companion out of the way at the mention of the price. Looking between the two, his eyes took in everything. Clothes, hair, and the way they carried themselves. Smirking lightly, the Handler held out his hands.

“He's a decent little house-worker, but his skills...” He shrugged, looking to the male in particular. “He's rather beautiful for a boy his age, isn't he?”

Just work that price right up there.

"Beauty means nothing if the amount of beauty amounts to equal strength. But, a house worker would be nice, though I already have a few-stronger-ones" She smiled and stepped forward, toward the handler. "As I said before, how much?" She looked at him dead in the eyes, even if that showed a little disrespect. She didn't mean disrespect.
Aurelia smirked lightly "I assure you, I am slightly interested in another slave. Though I would rather you not beat around the bush, so to speak. Price, however, is an issue I would like to get out of the way, first." She said "And there are plenty of other things I could be spending my late fathers money on, some precious jewels, perhaps." She said, glaring at the handler. "Then again, you do have other people interested, so maybe my money doesn't matter." She reached into a pouch in her clothing and pulled out one aureus. She twisted it in her palm and though her fingers quickly.

Nikolas made no move to struggle or squirm against the female as he was looked over. His teeth were in fine shape, his body unscathed. His handlers had done well to keep him in peek condition, beautiful as the flower he was named for, or so they would say.

When he was let go, the fear that had been kept at a reasonable shade in his eyes seemed to spark. Now there were two of them interested in him. Two women making such a fuss! Looking to Arcadius, he gave him a look that pleaded for help.

The Tall one grinned, the gold seeming to glint in his eyes as the young lady brought out four of the golden coins, blatantly ignoring the first girls babblings.

“And you, kind sir?” He asked, turning to Lucious, waiting to see just how high he could turn this profit. It was amazing how much attention their blonde was getting; if they had seen this, they wouldn't have put the other two up for sale later instead of now. But, with Nikolas being so popular, it kept the shorter one busy with trying to sell the others.

“I um,” He gently licked his pinked lips, trying to find his voice again. “I-I'm no good at fighting ma'am, but I do know my way around a home...”

Coisis blinked as the boy looked toward him. His eyes slid over to the Handler. "Yes, despite his frailty, he seems quite--suitable--" Coisis' comment was rather vigorous, in an attempt to float atop the waves of the crowd's bantering. He approached ever so slightly. This might be more of a difficulty than he had wanted. Coisis glanced at the woman as she glared impatiently at the Handler, drawing out an aureus in her palm.

Suddenly, from the clamor of the crowd came yet another woman, bringing Coisis to another sigh. She seemed much more direct than he, going up to him and inspecting him for herself. Damn them. What do all these women want with a frail boy? Coisis kept a serene look as his eyes lurked through various slaves. He began thinking to himself.

He quietly approached Nikolas for himself, his eyes falling languidly into a comfortable smile. His fingers swept across Nikolas' skin delicately, as if he were handling delicate cloth. He had to arrive in good condition, after all. Coisis too began inspecting muscles and ligaments he had memorized from massaging at the baths, looking for injury or tautness. Coisis was delighted by how deliciously Nikolas gave in to his touch. I'm sure they would enjoy that he snickered.

"Charming. Are you flexible?" he whispered as his fingers ran smoothly through Nikolas' golden locks, looking for lice and fleas, of course. He conveyed his comments quietly, only being meant for Nikolas' ears. He took a moment to pause, gazing into Nikolas' dichromatic eyes. Yes, he is a very distinct individual. he thought to himself. Frowning in sympathy, he gave one last comment: "You survived the journey quite well." He pulled away.

"Forgive me, my lady. I will offer five. He would do a good service to his fellow citizens," Coisis' serenity cracked into a wicked grin as he couldn't help but chuckle slightly. He hated to be abrasive, until he thought of the prospects.

"Seems your very popular, boy. I only brought a handful of the coins though, and I do intend to buy other things. Though, I was always one for the challenge....... I offer six, for him." She smiled, but made no move to touch the man. The others had done that enough, and they seemed pleased. She looked over the man in question quickly, then looked over to the other buyers "Though, I would like to offer a choice. If he," She pointed to Nikolas quickly "Would rather go to another" She swept her hand around to the other prospected buyers "Then I shall withdraw my offer. The money may be something you handlers only care for, but I do think a choice is necessary" She said, pulling out the coins from the fold one by one, counting them in a stack on top of her hand. She hadn't really thought of how many coins she had grabbed before, but apparently it was a large handful, as the fold in her clothing was still littered with coins.

The taller handler grinned in anticipation. Looking between the offered gold coins, he looked to Nikolas. The boy had been one of his better behaved males, and deserved a choice. Or so he thought. Pulling his comrade to the side, the two chattered for a while.

“She says he can choose.”

“Well, didn't he have issues or someving?”

“You're right...”

“We can't give an issued slave to young lady, that would be bad for reputation.”

“Good point, my friend.”

“I can show them the others?”

“Do what you will.” The taller one shooed off the smaller male and returned with a soft grin. “Nikolas,” he smiled, looking over to the blonde. “Whom would you like to go with?”

Nikolas stumbled, caught quite off guard by the offered choice.

“W-Well,” He started, searching his mind for the right words to say. “I-I think I would be more comfortable going with S-Sir.” He said, his voice trembling for the fear of a strike from either of the girls. “I-I don't do well with girls... “

The handler nodded as if giving the final decision and grabbed the male by the binds before leading him to Coisis and holding out his hand, waiting for the payment.

“I-I think I would be more comfortable going with S-Sir.” He said, his voice trembling for the fear of a strike from either of the girls. “I-I don't do well with girls... “

His heart leapt a little. What? Yes, yes... come... you will make me a rich man. Coisis thought, keeping his pleasantries from turning sour even in victory, bowing to the ladies in competition, flourishing a draping of his cloth. Delicately interwoven with thin golden thread to make a subtle brocade, it showed the kind of distinction he had become somewhat known for. "Thank you, and best of luck to you both," he added sweetly. He watched the brunette take her leave, trying his best not to look a little smug. His eyes caressed every nook and cranny of Nikolas' form. The fair-haired maiden came up to the man, gently taking his hand. He could not hear what she had to say. He was rather surprised at her change in demeanor compared to her previous inspection. Coisis deftly perceived the glint of coinage exchanged between the Nikolas and one of the girl's retainers. All four coins...?

She went back down and stepped back, motioning with her hand for the man to pay for the boy, then turned away, her cape floating in the breeze.

His thoughtful gaze, as he found the whole scene quite moving to him, was broken only when the Handler came up to him with Nikolas. "Ah, yes," Coisis' eyes came sharply into focus once more as he pressed the coins, now heated warm by his palms, into that of the Handler's. He then took the rope and gave it a strong tug, pulling Nikolas up against him, so much so that the subtle incense fragrance that had once suffused his clothing could easily be wafted. "Good choice, love, my rules are actually quite simple:" Coisis took Nikolas' chin his his hand, his smoldering eyes staring into Nikolas', as if searching for his soul. "Do as I say and everything will be alright," the gravity of his voice was shattered by a boyish chortle, amused by his own words. His northern accent rolled off of his tongue more naturally when speaking to Nikolas, as if indicating that he was indeed a foreigner, separating himself from those who had originally captured them.

Suddenly, his attention was brought over to the other lad, Arcadius, as the women had eventually moved on to place their bids on him.

"... I refuse to lower myself before another man. So then, I might as well just die here." He replied bitterly.

Coisis, greedily grasping the twine that bounded his new prize, nearly burst into laughter at Arcadius' words. Quickly regaining his composure, he nodded. "What courage. He would make a good gladiator, he isn't dissuaded by as unlikely odds as these!" He gave an encouraging smile to the bartering competition between the fair-haired maiden and the brunette whose previous prizes he had basically confiscated.

The handler took no more notice of the blonde beauty. He was gone and no longer the problem of either of the two.

Nikolas gasped softly as he was pulled toward his new owner, blushing lightly his hetero-chromatic eyes locked with Coisis's.

"Good choice, love, my rules are actually quite simple:" Coisis took Nikolas' chin his his hand, his smoldering eyes staring into Nikolas', as if searching for his soul. "Do as I say and everything will be alright,"

Called it, Nikolas thought a little bitterly, but gave the male a shy smile.

"Yes sir," He replied, gently hanging his head in a soft bow before his masters attention was turned to the girls. Looking up to Arcadius, he gave him an apologetic look, but smiled.

"Good luck," He mouthed quickly before turning his attention to the gold coins in his hand, running over what the blonde has whispered to him. Shaking his head, he quickly dismissed them. Those can be run over later, right now his attention need to be on his master.

"Well, I think that is a noble wish, to be set free, and you seem strong enough..... I offer up eight aureus- that is, if you wish to come with me. I am one to let you choose yourself, and I do think you would make a fine gladiator" Aurelia smiled before she continued "You would be trained well, and you would win, I think" Aurelia's eyes shimmered with glee for a moment- mostly at the thought of the house winning again, before she downcast her eye She turned to the girl then, looking at her annoyance at her "Sorry..." She smiled as she turned to look at the slave again, pulling out two more golden coins to add to the stack of six in her hand already. "I think you would be able to buy back your freedom before you parish" She said quickly, looking into the young slave's eyes. Freedom was something they all wanted, and it always made them more.... willing- to be bought. Though it wasn't a lie, many slaves tried to buy back freedom and accomplished it.

Finally, after another couple hours, Rory reached the city that he had known would eventually be at the end of the road he followed. He chuckled at the old saying about all roads leading to Rome. Apparently it was true, at least about the empire itself. All the roads eventually led to the city itself if followed long enough, but Rory had no desire to be caught in the hustle and bustle of the empire. He just wanted to settle down and forget war. He had seen so much and had barely escaped with his life when his legion had been mowed down. Might as well let them believe he was dead, there were enough bodies that they wouldn't be tallied and if word never reached back they would assume no survivors. He had no one to miss him back home. Well, technically he didn't even have a home. Never had.

It was no matter, he had infinite possibilities ahead of him, no boundaries outside his morals. He had helped people before and still would, but now he could also help himself. He had little knowledge on the working of the world, having had no one to help him in his early years before the military, but it couldn't be too hard... could it?

Rory strode through the gate of the city and was taken aback by the commotion. Market day? It was more like a war where money was the weapon of choice. People yelled and shouted, fought over merchandice with forced polite smiles and metaphorical claws extended. He couldn't help but huff out a short laugh and smile nervously. Good Gods, what had he been thinking?

There was no turning back now. He needed food and medical attention in a bad way. As was earlier mentioned, he had barely escaped with his life and hadn't had time to do more than basic first aide at the battle site before he ran and traveled for weeks. He had always had a way with healing so he had done better than most would have, but there was little to be done about cracked ribs with what could be found on the road. Now he had a market, perhaps someone could point him to a doctor? Fixing a small smile on his face, Rory timidly began to approach people that weren't busy battling with words or coins, pack and helmet held close to him for fear of them getting knocked away. No one seemed to want to answer him. Pity. He moved further through the jostling crowd, unsure as to where he was headed exactly. To be frank, he wasn't even sure where he was now. As soon as he found someone to help he'd be sure to ask.

In the distance over the heads of women and men in varying flashes of color and precious metals were a few elevated people who didn't look very happy at all. Most were dirty and/or scarred, but a few could be seen weaving around between the humans of different origin, some even dissappearing into the crowd with them... What was happening? He had never seen this before...

Curiosity drove him closer to the platform until he stood at the edge looking up at the people in horror. They were bound and stood lined up like livestock. What was happening here? It made no sense... He watched in confusion as a blonde man was drawn away by another man, slightly more intimidating. Just as he had seen others do. With a small wince, Rory drew himself up onto the platform with a sharp twinge from his ribs and approached the two. "Uh, excuse me," the man called, "What is all this? Do you know where I am, perchance? I've just arrived." He was painfully aware of the fact that he wore armor of the Roman army, but he hoped it would cause no problem.

Coisis offered Nikolas a sweet smile. "Then we will get along very well," he replied calmly. The commotion of the market began to irritate him now, and he wanted nothing more than to return to the quieter ward where his bathhouse was located. Enthralled with his new purchase, he began receding from the platform, nearly running into Rory.

"Uh, excuse me," the man called, "What is all this? Do you know where I am, perchance? I've just arrived."

Meeting the man's address, he wheeled around, embracing Nikolas and putting a strong arm around a new investment he wasn't about to lose. Keeping a firm grasp on the twine that bound the young man's wrists together, he gave Rory a quick scan, making a note of his roman garb. His expression brightened into a smile, and yet naturally as a foreigner those people left him only in unease.
"Salve, welcome to Ostia Atica. These are the slaves for sale, comprised of captures of war, the indebted, and so on..." Coisis' eyes found themselves once more upon the man, a wince coming to the surface of his expression as he eyed the man's wounds. "Um," his voice trailed off.

Paranoia was met with overwhelming sympathy. "Are you... alright? You look hurt," he began to ask with a raised brow, when he came to realize the fair-haired maiden turned also to the man's voice, her brows knit. He eased his grip on the young man. He eyed the two as she encouraged the man to come along. He shrugged. "Apparently we are known for our hospitality," he commented casually, his charm shown through his easy smile.

Nikolas froze as his master loosened his grip. His attention turned to the male whom had addressed Coisis. As his masters arm went around him, he remained quiet and simply rested his head on his masters chest, his blonde hair hiding the green of his two eyes.

The new male certainly was an odd one; even Nikolas knew where they were and he had been shipped to over ten cities in the area. Keeping his comments to himself, the Golden salve simply let his eyes wander about the market.

"Off we go then," he yanked Nikolas along just enough to keep a manageably brisk pace, yet let him walk at equal footing with himself as if they were acquaintances; no need to cause yet another spectacle. Coisis needed to be spared of any more interaction, those he had encountered today had quickly exhausted his charisma. As if the strange looks and acrimony he was daily greeted with as a foreigner weren't enough to battle psychologically. This drove them through cramped and dark alleyways, mostly to avoid people; what he was doing was perfectly legal, anyway.

They finally arrived, the ludus Vala, among other gorgeous villas, not far from sight.

"Ah, that place is all the gossip these days, at least for my clientele. They will be hosting a party sometime soon for senator Gaius Antonius, as he will be the aedile for the upcoming Vulcanalia festivals. No doubt many affluential and influential people will be there. Iwill do my best to get in, of course," Coisis rambled on as they approached the bathhouse.

The location of the bathhouse was merely a ploy on behalf of Coisis' business acumen. Not far from the glamour of glittering mansions, tucked quietly away in a modest courtyard at the edges of a poorer district, Coisis arranged for the building of his own bathhouse. Convenient and yet secluded somewhat from the watchful eyes of patrician families, this bathhouse offered a retreat for the socially weary, like Coisis himself. The neighboring district not only offered the appeal of discretion, but also implied a lower fee for services.

The bathhouse, although located in the poor district, shared a certain affinity with that of the richer district. Although modest, it had its certain aesthetic distinction. Tasteful cloth had been used to make its awnings, while damask roses in full bloom climbed to perch on any surface, and oleanders carpeted the trellis of the courtyard of the building. Gladioli and narcissi bloomed in profusion among fragrant beds of mint and basil. All of the space had been used efficiently, almost giving it a cramped appearance. As Coisis opened the door, a steamy, sultry fragrance enveloped them.

"Welcome to your new home," he said, taking a deep breath. He turned Nikolas around to face him. "Now, I will offer you a choice. You can work hard and keep your dignity, or hand it over to the highest bidder, if you know what I mean. You may become a very rich man like myself, but... well.. I would hate to see such a sweet thing like you get ruined, if only the pity I had hadn't been taken from me long ago," he smirked slightly. Even vocalizing what had happened didn't make him realize how the gravity of influence those events had impacted his life, it all seemed to come so naturally now.

It was hard to keep up with such brisk strides, with Nikolas' only being so far. But, he followed obediently. He knew better than to struggle or cause a scene; he had seen a few slaves in a few towns back to had decided to cause a riot, and his handlers tales of what happened later that day was enough to terrify the young lad.

When they arrived at their destination, Nikolas' eyes widened. Everything seemed to blend; the sights, the sounds, and the smells converting into one magnificent painting. Swiftly, he took in the smells of the flowers and herbs and identified them. In his years back in Greece, he and his mother had run a stand that specialized in bouquets of these wondrous plants; but then his father went into debt. Being the smallest of four sons, he was instantly picked off and sold.

“...You may become a very rich man like myself, but... well.. I would hate to see such a sweet thing like you get ruined, if only the pity I had hadn't been taken from me long ago,"

Nikolas's attention instantly snapped back to his Master, to whom he gave a gentle nod.

“I-I'll work hard,” He stated, nodding as if the confirmation would mean anything. “I may not know how to fight sir, but listening is one of my better skills.” Was that a smile?

((Sorry, I haven't had any proper length of time in the past two days! Holiday mayhem... ))

“I-I'll work hard,” He stated, nodding as if the confirmation would mean anything. “I may not know how to fight sir, but listening is one of my better skills.” Was that a smile?

I'll get my money's worth. Coisis grinned, walking forward. He opened a door, revealing a room lush like a garden in plants. His head tilted past the plethora of fragrant herb sprigs, stopping near a cupboard. Dried calendula, lavender, chamomile and rose buds had all been arranged into small open ceramic jars. They created a symphonic display of color on the cluttered table. Coisis began mixing them together, crushing them and macerating them in fresh olive oil. He brought the stone mortar and pestle with him, grinding the mixture to a thick paste.

After a long moment of silence, he turned around. "This place is safe from the eyes of judgement. My clients come here not only to shed their clothing, but their worries as well. They want it to be kept very discreet. This isn't exactly a social battleground as most bathhouses are; we are far too small and unknown. My clients pay generously to keep it that way."

"I will treat you decently and see how you like working hard as dignified slaves do. If at any time you want mercy, give me your dignity first," Coisis chuckled darkly. "You must've had a long journey. Today you will revitalize yourself. Go and see what it is like to bathe as a roman does. You must maintain appearances to be seen working here," Coisis pulled a knife from the hidden sheath beneath his draped clothing. The knife bit clean through the bindings, setting Nikolas free.

Coisis took his hand, putting some of the fragrant paste he had created in it. "In your first task, you will also be my little spy. Tell me anything you can about the party at the ludus Vala. Try not to be seen, my clients are shy around newcomers. I will inform the other slaves working in the baths now," Coisis spoke calmly, as if others could overhear them. "But first... what is your name?"

((It's alright darling, I understand.))

Nikolas listened, every word and tone becoming etched into his mind. The fragrances of the oils and pastes were nothing, only adding to his curiosity of his new home.

"I will treat you decently and see how you like working hard as dignified slaves do. If at any time you want mercy, give me your dignity first," Coisis chuckled darkly. "You must've had a long journey. Today you will revitalize yourself. Go and see what it is like to bathe as a roman does. You must maintain appearances to be seen working here,"

As the knife was taken out, it was the young boys first instinct to flinch. One second... another. There was no pain, just the release of the rope from around his wrists. Opening his eyes, he looked down to the sliced rope and then back towards his master.

"Thank you sir," He mewled, moving his hands behind his back, his hand still gripping to the coins he had received back in the market. When the paste was offered, and his free hand taken, he gave a light shudder.

"E-Excuse me, sir?" He asked, caught quite off guard by the order. "Spy but I don't-..." Nikolas quickly stopped himself, biting his lower lip. He knew better than to argue.

"Nikolas," He breathed, making sure to keep the hand held up. "Nikolas Chrysanthos." Golden Flower.

Lykos grumbled slightly as he was forced into the seats reserved for the soldiers. A group had wanted to attend the nights match, and decided it would be a good idea to drag the new guy along. Slumping between two rather large soldiers, Lykos allowed his eyes to roam the stadium before settling on the fight below. This was going to be... Fun?

----

A familiar glint of golden hair shone among the crowd. Nikolas, after performing his daily chores with his current Master, had been given leave to come to the days match. He bore new clothes, nothing to extravagant - a tunic dyed to match the blue in one of his eyes, sandals on his feet , and the smallest amount of gold, a necklace a customer had given him as a thank you gift.

Today's mission was to again, infiltrate the crowd. See who was who and keep his master updated on the idle gossip and goings on of Rome.

Slowly, his eyes turned down toward the floor, gazing over the fighters. He thought he recognized one of them... but... it couldn't be, not the scrawny man he had stood on the docks with...
