Alaizabel

"I've suffered terribly, you should cry for me... you should cry your eyes out."

0 · 294 views · located in Korratoth

a character in “Thorns Within the Rose”, as played by angelwolfchild

Description

Name: Alaizabel
Age: Unknown
Gender: Female
Description: Being just over 5”1” with a slim, delicate and almost fragile looking figure, Alaizabel has pale white skin and flowing white hair down to her waist. She often wears a long white gown and no shoes, with her eyes also being white but whenever she uses her magic her eyes turn pitch black and can sometimes bleed. By human standards she is incredibly beautiful and nobody knows what her true demon form looks like.
Image

Personality

Personality: Being the very definition of ‘pure evil’, Alaizabel is at once a sweet, polite and graceful woman with a sadistic love of violence and the tendancy to torture, mutilate and kill any who stand in her way. Quick to cry and to laugh, one moment she will be looking at you with a tender smile and the next she will have ripped your heart out of her chest. Despite looking fragile and elegant, she is strong and powerful, though never loses her temper. If she gets upset, she merely chastises the cause of this upset and then proceeds to torture them until she is satisfied.

History

Background: An ancient and powerful demon, leader of the Bloodstone clan, Alaizabel was called upon in the early days to keep the peace during a time of war. However she soon grew to love violence and gained a fearsome reputation for her cruelty, brutally murdering the youngest daughter of the current Korratoth King. It was not until the ancestors of the Korratoth royals attacked her that she was finally defeated, being sealed in a glass coffin underneath the castle. When the current king was murdered, she was able to break free of her prison, now seeking revenge and bloodshed upon what’s left of the family and their kingdom. However she also needs to consume as many hearts as possible, as she feeds off raw emotion stored within a person's heart. Her powers are very weak to begin with and she is unable to revert back from the human form she took so many years ago when she was brought to keep the peace.

So begins...

The castle of Korratoth had been in commotion all day, the rumblings of the invasion sinking through every crack and pocket of the castle. Deep below the dungeons was the chasm, a dark cave that only certain members of the royal family knew about.
Within this cave, standing upright in the centre, was a tall glass cylinder stretching from floor to ceiling, conceiling inside a slender figure covered in white.
Slowly, the creature’s muscles began to twitch within the glass, power sliding back into it’s souls as the chaos of the situation invaded. The demon writhed against the glass, feeling something dark building up inside of her.
Prisoners banging against the bars of their cells... servants and slaves cowering in fear... imposters in the places where the royals would dwell... blood.... the blood of a king...
There was a resounding crack as the glass suddenly shattered around the white figure, the tinkling slithers echoing throughout the entire castle and beyond. The glass broke, tearing through her skin and cascading to the floor.
For a moment there was silence, the pale figure stood in the middle of a circle of glass like a statue.
Then slowly, she raised her head and her black eyes faded to their usual white, the cuts on her skin stitching back together.
A smile spread across her lips.
“Freed from an eternal prison…” She murmured, her eyes glittering with a sadistic delight. “I should go and thank my captors.”
With that, slinking through the shadows, Alaizabel made her way up to find the people of the castle… and finally take her revenge.

Alaizabel materialised within the shadows of an alcove just outside the throne room, leaning against the wall and breathing heavily.
How long had she been locked in that glass prison? Too long, just breaking free had been enough to almost completely drain her powers. She would need to consume a heart... and soon.
But first, it was time to discover exactly what disturbance had given her the power to break free.
Slowly, her eyes turned black as she began to sense the other beings in this place.
The blood of the royal line hit her senses almost immediately, there were two living mortals. Both female and youthful, Princesses. One had the scent of fear... recent fear, like a nightmare. She would enjoy torturing this princess very much. But there was another trace of royal blood... recently spilled. Male, adult... the King? The King was dead? Yes... now that she listened there was a human on the throne but he was not a royal. An overthrow perhaps? There were two males with her, one just some sickly noble hearted captain and the other...
"Blind bloodshed... how delightful." She murmured to herself, attempting to focus on the blind captain.
He was powerful, being shrouded in darkness only helped him. Had he been a demon in her time, Alaizabel would have certainly considered him a worthy consort. But she had more important things to do, once she'd taken revenge she could find her clan and take her place as leader once more-
There was a demon. Female, from a different clan. And she could sense her. Now this was an interesting turn of events.
With a slight groan of pain she doubled over slightly, trembling slightly from weakness. Later she could investigate these new creatures but for now she needed somewhere to regain her strength. Thankfully there was one final presence she could distinctly sense in the palace...
"Time to visit an old friend." She murmured, dematerialising into the shadows before any could see her.

The shadows unraveled around her body as Alaizabel materialised within the dark walls of the Chancellor's chamber, her black eyes once again returning to white as she surveyed her surroundings.
It had been a long time since she had been here but nothing had changed... surprisingly so, even the castle seemed to have a different air to it but this place... not so much as a crack in the wall had changed.
Still the scent of the shadows twisting and writhing within the darkened corners, almost stretching out to greet her like old friends or faithful pets.
Still the delightfully grotesque sight of the humans, stretched out and alive but mutilated horrible while surrounded by the limbs and organs of various creatures.
Still the ever so faint hissing sound of magic in the air, dark and evil like magic should always be.
And still the same shape of the chancellor himself, seeming to have aged barely a day since she had last layed eyes upon the man.
Loyal to the crown in name alone... In heart, loyal to the darkness.... She thought to herself, smiling as she gazed upon the familiar figure.
There was barely a sound made as she drifted across the room to stand behind Trifect, stretching a pale slender hand out to touch his cheek gently. Yes, he truly had not changed in all these years, even his voice was exactly the same.
"Too long indeed my dearest friend..." The demon murmured, leaning in close to whisper into his ear "I was beginning to think you had forgotton me."
She suddenly hissed in pain, pulling away from him and leaning a hand on the wall to steady herself.
"Unfortunately I seem to have awoken prematurely... my powers are not completely restored."
Her eyes slid back to Trifect, filled with an expression of innocent longing that any mere human could, and would, percieve as no more of a threat than a child.
But the Chancellor knew her better.
"I need a heart."

The darkness so strong that you could feel it in a room, taste it, smell it. Times were only like that when Alaizabel was around. In truth, that feeling used to scare the hell out of Trifect when he was younger. Although it was a fear of the raw power she held, rather then of the darkness itself. He’d grown accustom to it many years ago however. He longed for it once again, and now she had finally returned. He was stronger then he used to be, although he still cursed himself for not finding a way to release Alaizabel sooner.

“Forgotten about you? There hasn’t been a day that goes by that I haven’t missed your presence inside these walls. The Kingdom has gotten weak. The royals that banded together to seal you away all those years ago... their countless offspring getting weaker and more fool hearted each time. The kingdom was left with spoiled children, easy to be taken... I’ve tried to release you for... how long has it been now.... 500 years? While I’m grateful the takeover weakened your prison, It’s my deepest regret that you will not be able to exact your true revenge on those that deserve it most.”

Trifect didn’t say another word for a while. Instead he walked over to a wall, covered in shelves, which were in turn covered in potions and all sorts of grotesque things needed for dark magic. Grabbing a few specific potions he brought them over to a sort of cauldron, mixing a few drops quite precisely, before returning them to their original places. Once returned to the cauldron a few drops of his own blood went in, instantly combusting everything inside of the cauldron. “I have many people here, though I doubt any of their wretched hearts are worth of you. Tell me who’s heart you desire, and I will aid you the best I can as always.”

Alaizabel eyed the Chancellor as he spoke.
It was strange, this man who still acted like the most loyal of servants would speak of his own kind like... well, like a demon would. The manner in which he spoke of the royal line, how he condemned them as weak humans, was very much how she herself viewed them. There was something about that which had always fascinated her about Trifect, that little spark that made him a worthy human... worth far more than any royal.
"500 years? Has it been that long?" The demon was surprised at that, though she'd had no sense of time or space within her glass prison she had thought that the human race might evolve a tiny bit in such a long time. Yet by the things she had sensed, things had gone backwards.
Foolish creatures... they deserve nothing but suffering...
She raised an eyebrow at the bound humans.
"If I were in a more amiable state of health then I would take them without hesitation... however I need something more nourishing if I am to completely replenish my powers and continue what I started. I need something... young, innocent... female preferably. But not either of the Princesses I sensed in this castle... I wish to savour the pleasure of tearing them slowly and painfully until they beg for death."
Suddenly Alaizabel gave a slight giggle, sounding like a young girl as she watched Trifect.
"It is quite delightful to see how far you have progressed in the dark arts my dear Trifect, if I am not careful you will surpass me." Her voice was playful and friendly, her gaze almost tender like a tutor with an intelligent student. "Had you been among my kind you would be fit for king... but humans always struggled to appreciate the powers of darkness."

Rain clouds almost as black as night quickly covered the skies outside of the castle. The effect of the spell he had just cast. The sounds of thunder roared through the skies, rain poured down to the ground at an almost alarming rate, followed by lightning that would soon be on the borderline of a very dangerous level. Temperamental weather wasn't common, but it wasn't exactly that far fetched for the area, so magic wouldn't be the first thought at the cause of it. Besides it made a hell of an omen, and Trifect did always love those classic omens.

Had it been 500 years? That was his best guess, although after the first few hundred it got kind of difficult to keep track of. "I had a feeling they would not suffice. They can't even seem to make very good dummies for my experiments. Your kin have such power, yet those I am unfortunate enough to share a race with, can't seem to handle a few animal parts that would make them stronger. You honor me with your words, however I could never even come close to you or anyone worthy of becoming your king. I am your servant, forever faithful. Had I been stronger in the past I would have stopped them from ever sealing you in the first place. I swear on my life that it will never happen again. One thing I've learned quite well is to appreciate the darkness, and just look what that appreciation has done for me. It's not only granted me power beyond my imagination, but it granted me the chance to once again serve you."

Trifect looked away from the room, heading towards the door. Others would be foolish to turn their back on Alaizabel, however he knew her well. She wouldn't hurt him. At least not while he was still of use and loyal to her. "I believe I know of a girl. She's a servant of the current Heir to the throne. I haven't had much contact with her, since to be honest her personality makes me a little sick. However I have always been up to my same old tasks of keeping tabs on everyone close. I knew you would return one day, and that information couldn't hurt. She's quite the pure soul, at least from what I've found out about her. More fitting of your desires then the princesses. Do you have the strength to stay hidden in the shadows to come with me, or should we disguise you? Perhaps as a lady of the church." He smiled a little at the thought of that.

Alaizabel sighed slightly.
He was correct about the humans, they were not adaptable enough to make themselves stronger. The only thing they were useful for was nourishment, feeding on the emotions that they held in such high regard.
A flicker of annoyance flashed across her eyes at the way he was speaking.
"The darkness can get you further than this my dear Trifect, never be content with what you have if you can get more. Once I've dealt with my matters here your instruction will resume... and I will teach you how to reach the deepest magics in this world." Alaizabel said to him, smiling as she watched her little project. Still he had no idea of her intentions for him and until the time came he would not need to know. As long as he remained loyal and willing to learn that's all she needed from the chancellor.
The servant sounded absolutely pefect, such purity would certainly be a welcome relief to her powers. It would also be a good way to see if she still had her old tricks of deception from all those years ago... there was something satisfactory of seeing the delight in some humans eyes turn into horror when she revealed her intentions.
She raised an eyebrow at the idea of dressing as a lady of the church.
"Don't tell me you still have that religion thing?" Alaizabel gave a fake shudder, the belief system had always been one of the worst things humanity had ever created. "Disguises will not be necessary. Besides, as you will learn in time, you don't need power if you are one with the shadows..."
Stretching an arm out towards the shadows along the walls, she smiled as tendrils of blackness wove around her arms obediantly, like some kind of pet.
"Show me the girl, make sure I can be completely alone with her and then... I'll take care of the rest."

Trifect didn’t say anything at first. Instead he just walked to a corner that had various canes in it. Selecting a silver cane with a golden handle he smiled. A gift from one of the royals for helping make sure that Alaizabel would never escape. It was true, when he found out about the plan to seal her, he “helped” them. At least it would have been a help had he not try to warn her and mixed some of his own dark magic in with their light magic. Yet even in doing so, he still was unable to awaken her for near 500 years. Pitiful. It wasn’t long after that, that he started putting on a limp. The lie about why changed over the years, yet eventually they just stopped asking. He did put the cane he was awarded away, for the day that she would awaken. He knew it would happen, and using their thank you gift when he really screwed them over, just seemed to have some sort of poetic justice to Trifect.

Trifect always generally walked with a limp, to sell the story of his own physical weakness. All a ploy of course, as he never once had a real limp in his lifetime. “When have you ever known me to be content with what I have, my liege? I wish to become strong and aid you in eradicating the weak. Some of my own kind may call it giving up my humanity... if only such a thing existed...” Trifect looked over as the shadows wrapped around Alaizabel. “They have more then one nowadays. It sickens me, and to be honest dressing a demon, whom they still look at as evil, up as a church goer, well that just sounds perfect to me.”

Trifect walked over to the door, and opened it. “I long to learn that lesson. As you wish, my liege. I will find the girl.” Walking through the door, he was transported instantly to a high tower that was used for his own personal library. It had grown into quite a vast collection over the years, though roughly half of them were really tomes for dark magic. He learned early on how to hide those. Any he didn’t wish to see what he was reading, simply would seem like he was reading any book. The one he was pretending to read now, was one he had read dozens of times. It would allow him to completely sell the lie, had the need ever arisen, not that it ever had in the past. Although this was at least the real book. He would need to think of an excuse to get the girl somewhere by herself. Well, he’d think of something. He was quiet good with thinking on his feet, especially when he was trying to impress Alaizabel.

Alaizabel smiled at his comment.
"Giving up your humanity... what a delightful idea." She murmured, giggling at the thought of tearing every last slither of emotion from inside their pathetic souls, making them empty and lifeless... how beautiful a sight that would be.
She watched him transport, following him through the shadows and gazing upon the collection of books.
That was one thing she admired about humans, in fact the only thing she admired. One thing they were good at was collecting knowledge, with her kind the gifts were passed down through the generations through inheritance and training, they had no need to contain their knowledge nor allow any other creatures to know it... part of what made them so dangerous was that nobody knew exactly what they could do. So for some humans to learn some of the greatest secrets passed down for years between demons just through studying a book? It was not only unimaginable, it was impressive. Even slightly menacing.
It wasn't often humans could be considered a threat.
Something suddenly clicked in the back of her mind and Alaizabel turned to the door. Without looking at him, she spoke to Trifect.
"Use the shadows to contact me when the girl is ready, there is something I need to check on first. And Trifect... watch where you use your powers. I don't know if you've realised but there is another demon in this castle and while I am not fully recovered she could be a threat." Her eyes slide back to the Chancellor, now pitch black with her shadow magic. "You are my most powerful weapon at the moment, I don't intend to lose you because of a slip up."
She spoke with the same gentle and sweet tone as before but now there was a hint of danger to it that only he would be able to detect.
Trifect knew the trouble that could be caused with a demon around, Alaizabel had ensured that 500 years ago, so she didn't expect him to make any mistakes but with another demon here she couldn't take risks.
With that, she vanished into the shadows, deciding to track down this other demon and find out how much of a threat she could be.

Trifect stood silently as Alaizabel spoke. “I know of her. My information networks have gotten better with time, and they were already good back then. There’s not many things that happen in this castle that my magic does not inform me of. I may not be one with the darkness yet, but I am a servant of it, which as you know awards certain perks. I keep tabs on things, and do it discreetly. I take pride in my discretion. Of course some weak light magic to sell myself as but the simple and fairly weak chancellor, doesn’t hurt either. I will ensure that I am not discovered. I haven’t waited this long to slip up now, my liege.” Trifect knew of the danger, and didn’t take it lightly. She would know that, since he rarely took anything even remotely important, lightly.

“You should also be careful. You are not yet back at your full strength. If you need assistance then all you should do is call. I will be there as quick as I can be, even if I must break my guise for it.” After Alaizabel was gone Trifect just began down the halls. He could hear the beginning of the storm rage outside. How sweet a sound. The servant girl seemed to be busy though, as his magic had told him. Well there wasn’t a need to be too hasty. After all, he didn’t want to cause unneeded attention. Instead he just walked around the halls. Never really could tell what he’d find. Maybe who, but not what. His magic wasn’t really very specific.

Alaizabel had been drifting through the shadows of the castle, her senses stretching to their limits trying to see as much as she could.
The female demon was proving difficult to keep a track on, her strength really was fading. But as long as she was in the shadows she could temporarily draw on their power to keep her sustained and despite what Trifect had said she needed to inspect this demon for herself... partially to assess her as a threat but mostly to find out what had happened to their race. She had come through alone five hundred years ago, when did other demons start living among humans?
A small smile creeped across her face.
Trifect had told her to be careful and offered assistance... like he actually cared about her. Then again, she had known him most of his life. She had taught him magic. To him she had always been some kind of angel.
To her, he was a project.
She suddenly let out a hiss of pain, louder than she had intended so that a few servants passing her location jumped slightly. The darkness had stirred... the darkness from around her prison.
Moving through the shadows she soon returned to that same room she had occupied for 500 years. Alaizabel knelt down slowly, picking up a shard of glass as her eyes turned black. She took in the scent of the last creature to have touched it... the princess...
"She's been here, but why?" Her eyes trailed to the writhing shadows, suddenly smiling with genuine affection at the mass of dark coils and tendrils. "My beloved friends, have you been preparing her for me?"
Putting a hand to the shadows, she allowed them to enter her mind and show her the entire scene... oh how wonderful this was. The princess had been drawn to the shadows, she had been entranced by them. And... yes, they showed her the dreams. The girl thought she had freed Alaizabel. She went through the scene more, realising that the man with her had been able to sense the shadows, he had freed her. But he would be no issue, he was... no! They were leaving! She couldn't let that happen, not yet.
"The other demon can wait." She muttered, moving back into the shadows and drifting towards the sense of the princess and her companion, some kind of rogue she could see now. It didn't take a demon to see what would get this man's attention.
Part of her said to wait, to wait until she had taken the heart of this servant and become more powerful but... if she didn't make sure they were where she wanted them, things would be so much more difficult.
Without moving outside the shadows, she projected her voice into two messages.
First, into the ear of the man her soft, pretty voice whispered, "Whether she likes it or not she is a Princess, surely she should have the grace to reward you handesomely from the treasury for all your trouble."
Then she sent another message into the ear of the princess, giving her voice a desperate and innocent edge as she pleaded "Please don't leave me, you have freed me physically but I am still trapped... I need your help."
Neither would hear the other's message and neither would see her, all she needed was for them to stay inside the castle and she could do as she pleased. So patiently, she waited.

Alain's mouth watered at the smells the foods, the fresh bread especially. When you spent a couple days in a prison cell, even baked bread or a few slices of ham began to smell like a feast. He took a piece of bread and tore off a bit, popping it into his mouth and chewing thoughtfully. Not half bad, actually, though he supposed for a place like this, you had to cook well if you wanted to stay on the staff. He leaned back and put his boots up on the table, and was about to speak when a whisper came in his ear. His chair legs immediately hit the floor as he turned to look for the source of the voice (expecting to see some fine looking servant to match the pretty voice)...but there was nothing. He grunted a little and sighed, rubbing his eyes. He was probably tired still. He probably should have slept more before making his brilliant escape. Still, the voice in his ear had a point. She was the heir to the throne, surely she had more than a small pouch of gold. After all, she could have been in who knows what kind of trouble if it hadn't been for him. He chewed some more bread thoughtfully. How to do this, exactly...he couldn't just say he wanted more gold. That kind of blunt approach never worked. He mulled it over in his head. Aloud, he asked, "So. What shall we discuss over the wait for the feast to arrive? Politics, prattle, or pleasantries?" He joked.

Alaizabel had been enjoying how distracted the two of them were by her little 'messages'.
The rogue. He was more receptive at first, she could almost see the cogs in his head turning at the ideas she had planted inside of there. It didn't take much to turn his head... that would be useful.
The princess herself was a little more scepticle, the connection made between her and the darkness was too thin at the moment but she was still drawn to the idea. Once her power was back, Alaizabel would be able to exploit this completely and enjoy her revenge.
She was about to send another little message to the man (Alain had he been called?) when a sudden overwhelming sense nearly broke her concentration.
It was... pure. Pure innocence!
Her eyes slid over to the servant who had come in... how was this possible? In all her time she had never come across a human that could hold such purity, it had to be more than just her. And this had to be the girl that Trifect had mentioned, she could see why he had suggested her as a way to recover. She really would be a powerful source of nourishment.
Speak of the devil, the man himself walked in.
It was rather amusing seeing how the princess spoke to him, if only she knew what her dear Chancellor was capable of. But she could not waste anymore time, she needed Parthenia's heart.
There are shadows all over this castle... show me where Parthenia has been.
For a moment she took in the scenes that the shadow showed her before picking out the details she needed.
Alaizabel gritted her teeth, pulling every ounce of magic from her body so that she could pull off this trick. Releasing a deep breath, she stepped into the empty corridor outside, her appearance now exactly like one of the other servants that had been present at the birth.
"Showtime." She murmured, knowing the girl wouldn't resist this trick.
In the servant disguise, she rushed into the room, nearly bumping into Trifect as she hastily curtseyed to the others.
"Forgive me sir, my lady, forgive this intrusion..." Her gaze went to Paige with her face full of panic. "Paige, it-its Ms Sleine's baby.... we don't know what happened... there's something wrong... he's struggling to breath..."
The words all came out in a frenzied rush, her eyes full of desperate panic as she spoke to Paige.

Parthenia cridged at Alain and Trifect's scolding but said nothing, only murmuring a soft "Yes, Sir. I'll do better." in response to both of them and continuing to look at her lap. She didn't beleive no one cared. Aethrya's cared, didn't she? And Mr and Ms Slenie and their new baby cared. Other servants cared and even the Queen had favored her when she still lived. No, Paige held no deep regrets as she liked to serve and knew that someday, somehow, she would be reffered to as Mistress Parthenia, a noble woman and respected lady of the community. Never again a dog- no, she was never a dog! Then there was a snap which pulled her from her thoughts and Trifect said “Her highness wishes for her sister, Setia. Please retrieve her and bring her here.” shortly followed by footsteps running off into the hall. Parthenia didn't look up from her hands as she had no desire to know which servant had been summoned nor the stunned expression they had on their face. Undoubtably it would be the talk of the wash room along with much of the rest of the castle's gossip. And then, as if to stir up more trouble (though Paige would never make such rash accusations) Trifect went on.

“I will not pretend that I knew nothing of your being locked up, in fact I had full knowledge of it. I also knew you were down there, since the day it happened. Of course you do have certain facts mixed up. I never wanted you locked up, I would have much rather employed someone with your unique talents. It’s not often that we see someone with the balls or talent to break into a castle to rip it off. That kind of thing would be quite useful for a man of my stature. After all it’s my duty to know whatever information I can, and someone that could very well blend in as a spy as I’m sure you are capable, well it would be just the person I would love to hire. Alas, the old keepers, as you put it, saw fit to lock you up, leaving us both quite unhappy. Although I must say, I am surprised you hadn’t broken out much sooner then this, let alone allowed yourself to be caught.” He said in a causual and easy mannor as if it were a normal day and he was simply carrying on pleasent conversation.

Paige heard a chair scoot out and creak mildly as it accepted Trifect's weight. His shadow followed his arm which reatched for an apple as the other hand held a goblet of wine. “I don’t believe you will kill me now, I believe Alain was your name, correct? Why don’t I think you’ll kill me? A simple reason. It’s too much of a hassle for you. Having to deal with the fallout from it, poor Paige right here will likely be the one to clean up the mess, need I go on? Plus you are a man of opportunity, yes? I would still like to employ you for jobs that would make use of your talents. All you would have to do is name your price.”

A grimance lingered on Parthenia's face. Not nessassarelly over the idea of having to clean up the blood and gore if they did decided to duel, but at the prospect of what Trifect was doing. Wasn't he the advisor? Shouldn't he have the uttmost respect for the kindgom as well as the best intentions for them? Mocking them did not seem to support his cause. Was he trying to start a fight? Perhaps he knew something the others didn't, like perhaps Alain was intenting to kill them and he was secret revealing his plans. Although this seemed very unlikely as Paige thought about. Unfortunatly she didn't have much time to think as a servant's footsteps entered the room.

"Forgive me sir, my lady, forgive this intrusion..." Parthenia raised her head now, turning around in her chair to face the girl she recognized as Clairibella. Her hair was messier than she normally kept it and her eyes, normally a calm brown, were wild and wet with tears yet to be spilt. "Clair? What are you doing here? What has frightened you so?" Paige said, standing up from her chair and taking a step towards her friend. "Paige, it-its Ms Sleine's baby.... we don't know what happened... there's something wrong... he's struggling to breath..."

Paige gasped, her hand touching her chest lightly in a gesture of alarm, the panic in her voice ringing true. "No! That cannot be!" Paige turned to Aethyra, "Please, please forgive me, but I am needed." Then, with worry, love and determination swirling in her rich sky blue eyes she said, "Quickly Clair, we do not have any time to waste! Show me where Harding is being cared for!"

Alain raised an eyebrow. A likely story, but any man could come up with kind words when a knife was at their throat, "I stayed where I was because I was interested in this castle, and I was interested in the events which took place in it." He would not speak on his capture. It was no fool's mistake, but rather...he wasn't sure. As he had been taking gold, as quiet as he could and minding the structural quality of the gold pile, the opposite half of the pile decided it was going to slide. An impossible thing, yes, but the noise of the slide was what brought the guards to him, and honestly, it would be easier to lockpick a cell and sneak out, than to fight his way out past guards. So the denizens of the castle had been on the side of luck that day, or something else entirely. This was why he had stayed as long as he had, to find the reason behind the slide; but then of course the castle came to siege, and now here they were. He crossed his own arms as the servant girl scurried out, though once more he felt that twang of fingers on his spine for just a moment. He wasn't seriously letting that little cave get at him, was he? Every person that came in that door wasn't going to give him jitters, eh? What kind of man would he be then?

However, Trifect spoke again, which caused Alain's frown to deepen. Arrogant son of a bitch, wasn't he? He continued to keep his arms crossed, the knife now dangling from his fingers by the blade, "I would prefer my name be spoken less freely as this, if you do not mind. And you would make me laugh, were I not considering to sink a knife in your throat. Why do you imply that I care which dog from this castle cleans the blood from the ground? Is it not their job to clean the floors and such things? It is what they are supposed to do. As for being a man of opportunity, you infer that you provide opportunity. You are the adviser to a castle. The treasury is more in her hands than yours," He pointed briefly at Aethyra before looking back at Trifect, "Yet you intend to have me 'name my price'? What have you to offer that is worth my skill?"

Aethyra grasped Paige's shoulder stiffly, studying the maid who had just rushed in, Clairibella, her name was. Something about her was off, strange, with the same pull that Aethyra had felt before in the dungeon. She did not trust this girl, not one bit.

"Clairibella. You are different, what has happened?" she pushed herself in front of Paige and studied Clair, scrutinizing her closely. She couldn't hold Paige back, no, the poor girl would explode with worry. Turning back to face Paige, her voice dropped to a whisper, "I do not like this, Parthenia, I do not like her. Something is wrong. I want you to be very, very careful. Do not take anything she offers. Go straight only to the baby, and back to me." The heir hurriedly tugged an amulet from her throat and fastened it around Paige's, watching it gleam unnaturally. "It is an enchanted protection charm, I only pray it can help you if something bad is to happen. Something is happening, and I fear it will be after you if we are not careful. I will not lose you, you are one of the only people I would dare call 'friend' in this disgusting place. Please, return swiftly." Grasping her hand for one final moment, she stood to the side and let her rush off to the baby. Then, nursing an aching temple, she turned to the bickering couple at the table, and sat herself across from Alain.

"Are you two thoroughly finished squabbling like old hens? I fear I'll be put off my tea if you continue." She took a pointed sip of tea at the moment, then took a smile nibble of bread, "I did not realize it was my duty to greet you first, Trifect, I thought it was yours to greet me. Hello, Trifect. I hope the morning has treated you well." Annoyance was pouring off her in waves, and she sincerely hoped the men could feel it.

Parthenia was about to follow after Clair with Aethyra's grabbed Paige's shoulder and pulled the girl behind her to Paige's great surprise. "Clairibella. You are different, what has happened?" Paige blinked. Yes it was turn, clair was usually the calmest of the servants and always liked to look neat, but with the life of a new born baby being threatened, who wished towashed time looking pretty? Paige was about to try to reassure Aethyra that all would be well and that time was of the essence, but before the words left her lips, Aethyra's turned to her.

""I do not like this, Parthenia, I do not like her. Something is wrong. I want you to be very, very careful. Do not take anything she offers. Go straight only to the baby, and back to me." Aethyra said, looking Paige dead in the eye before she quickly pulled an amulet from around her throat and fastened it around Paige's before she could react or protest. It sparkled around the girl's neck and Paige fumbled to undo the clasp, knowing that if she were seen wearing Aethyra's jewelery or clothing she would be subjected to immediate execution.

But before she could take it off and give it back, Paige was stunned by Aethyra's words. "It is an enchanted protection charm, I only pray it can help you if something bad is to happen. Something is happening, and I fear it will be after you if we are not careful. I will not lose you, you are one of the only people I would dare call 'friend' in this disgusting place. Please, return swiftly." Something coming after her? What would be coming after her? Why? Paige wanted to ask all these things, but could see the seriousness in Aethyra's eyes and stopped short.

Slowly her hands fell from the chain with held the amulet and back to her sides. A small, comforting smile graced her lips in response to Aethrya's orders. She wasn't going to be the servant who treasured her own life above her Mistress's wishes, throwing away the protective gift because of it's threat. She was going to be the friend who agreed help ease her friend's troubled without reguard to the potential consequences. Paige gave her friend's hand a small, reassuring squeeze. "I will return soon, my Lady." she said, curtsying, before turning to Clairibella. "Lead me to the Slenie's child."

'Clairibella' wasted no time when Paige finally went with her, wondering why the Princess had been so... suspicious.
My powers must be weaker than I thought, there must be some trace from this disguise... but not for much longer. She thought to herself.
"We moved them to the doctor's quarters but we have to hurry..." Her eyes fell on the princess, brimming with tears and terror. "... no more time can be wasted."
With that she grabbed Paige's hand and ran out of the room, taking her down the corridors in the right direction to the doctors quarters.
For a while they continued down the corridors, occaisionally passing people on the way but nobody stopped them... servants only ran if something needed to be done. But soon there was nobody with them, in one final, abandoned corridor before reaching the doctor's quarters.
Without warning, she turned sharply and pushed Paige roughly into an empty room, quickly shutting the door and flicking her wrist, a coil of shadows locking the door tightly.
Nobody had seen them.
Nobody had heart them.
Nobody even knew they were here.
"You must forgive me for the hysterics..." She murmured gently... before suddenly turning and rushing at Paige, backing her against the wall with one hand across her mouth. "But this is a really desperate situation."
Her other hand wrapped around the charm worn about the girl's neck, pulling it off and looking at it intently. The thing burnt her slightly but she was too weak to care.
"Cute, I never figured the princess to be so... I'm not even sure what the word is." Alaizabel murmured, her eyes turning black as she dropped the charm, the disguise falling away. "This isn't as... elegant as I would have liked it to be. I don't like rushing things like this, especially with such a sweet young girl, but I'm just so... tired at the moment. Oh don't worry my dear, the baby is fine... but I need your help. I need you to make me strong again. Will you do that?"
The hand around Paige's mouth gripped more tightly while her free hand pulled apart the top of her dress. Alaizabel smiled, growing one of her nails into a long talon before slowly and deliberately dragging it across the skin of her chest... right over her heart. The skin split and with a gleeful chuckle, the demon thrust her entire hand into the girl's chest, wrapping it around her heart and giving a tug.
It didn't budge.
Then, slowly but surely, a strange... pure energy began to surge through her veins.
This didn't make sense... she couldn't tear out the heart and yet... the power from it... the sweet... intoxicating power...
"What is this..." She breathed, staring at the girl in front of her as she felt a tingling of power rush through her veins. "What are you..."

Trifect ignored Alain at first. It seemed a more interesting ‘person’ came in. He could tell it was Alaizabel, but the odd thing was that Aethyra could also sense something wrong. Maybe he had underestimated the relationship with the darkness that girl had. Then again, Alaizabel was very weak compared to her normal self, so maybe she just couldn’t hide the scent of darkness well enough. Once Aethyra gave Paige her protective amulet however, Trifect noticed the perfect opportunity to finally weaken it. Maybe she’d notice it after getting it back, but she couldn’t trace it back to him by that point. Keeping a hand under the table he cast the spell weakening the amulet. It wouldn’t do more then mildly irritate someone now. It was the best he could do, without fully destroying the object. After Alaziabel had taken Paige away, Trifect downed his glass of wine, and threw the apple core on his plate in front of him. He stared at Alain for a moment before finally responding to him.

“Do not pretend to know the inner workings of this kingdom boy. Do you think just anyone can walk into the royal treasury? Finances are a delicate thing. Do you think the Lord more willing to pay for a thief skilled in finding information on our enemies that we can exploit, or a one time payment on the whim of a girl whose family had already failed this kingdom once? I can offer more then you can dream. I don’t believe you to be a fool, don’t prove me wrong.” Trifect pulled his cane out from the chair, and layed it on the table. Casting a small light spell, that he’s used many times before, he teleported one of his wooden canes to him. After all, his disguise required the cane. “That is made of pure silver and gold, although it is hollow inside. It was a gift from many years ago. I offer it to you to put the past behind us, in hopes of future transactions. Is this deal acceptable for you? After all, I would hate to have to fight each other here, I’m sure it would ruin dear Aethyra’s meal, and I would absolutely hate to do that.”

Speaking of Aethyra, he looked at her with a smile. Of course his smile may have looked more creepy then happy. “Fortunately for us both, there is no duty that requires either of us to greet first. I am afraid that in a strictly social gatherings, where there is no set goal, my manners may be flawed. After all, in my role in this kingdom, I make more enemies then friends. That comes with the territory however, and I wouldn’t trade my position with anyone. I will try and remember my manners in this sort of moment in the future.” Trifect cleared his throat and refilled his glass of wine. “Good Morrow Princess Aethyra. My morning has treated me well enough, how about yourself? By your earlier description to the day, I believe that something must have happened, care to share? Perhaps an old man like myself can shed some light on something?”

"We moved them to the doctor's quarters but we have to hurry! No more time can be wasted." Clair said and the two began to run. They ran for a short time, heading towards the doctor's quarters where poor little Harding was being held. Suddenly, Clair turned on her, shoving Paige into a empty room usually used for storage. Paige emmitted a strangled cry as she fell backwards. "C-Clair! What are you doing?!" Paige asked in a panic as she lept to her feet, confused on the sudden behavoir pattern change in her friend. But when she saw the coils of black, shadowy tendrils blcking the door Paige knew this couldn't possibly be her companion.

"You must forgive me for the hysterics..." The false Clair murmured gently before suddenly she had pinned the poor girl against the wall, covering her mouth so that she couldn't scream. "But this is a really desperate situation." Paige whimpered, her blue eyes wide with fear. She watched helplessly as the false Clair's hand reatched to her neck, pulling the protective amulet off with a resounding *snap*. "Cute, I never figured the princess to be so... I'm not even sure what the word is." The false Clair said, dropping the necklace on the floor and Parthenia watched in horror as it shattered into millions of peices.

"This isn't as... elegant as I would have liked it to be. I don't like rushing things like this, especially with such a sweet young girl, but I'm just so... tired at the moment. Oh don't worry my dear, the baby is fine... but I need your help. I need you to make me strong again. Will you do that?" Paige desperately wanted to shake her head no, to fight back, but she was held firm to the wall. Suddenly she felt the false Clair's fingers undoing the lace that held her dress on and the fabric fall from her shoulders to her waist, falling to her hips and exposing her upper body. Paige felt bare and defiled, but that couldn't possibly compare to what came next.

Parthenia tried to cry out, her scream of pain muffled by the hand over her mouth as claw like nails dragged across her chest, slowly and painfully, parting the flesh and letting her bleed. Then the false Clair, Paige suspected now it was a demon, dug her entire hand into Paige's chest and gripped her heathly, throbbing heart. Tears ran down Paige's face in agonized pain and suffering as her vision flickered, blurry and turning black. Was this how she perished?

~Parthenia no longer knew time nor space, only a dreamy world far from the one she was dying in.~

~A memory so long forgotten, Paige could see herself standing in a field of beautiful flowers. She was young, perhaps ten, and stared at the most gorgeous horse in existance with a single, solitare and pure white horn petruding from it's forehead. The horse approached the girl who watching with with awe, nickering and whinnying in approval at the feild of flowers. The girl had obviously spent much time on it; fertilizing, scattering seeds, watering and simply adoring the plants.~

~The mythical beast approached the girl, looking upon her with ivory eyes, and could see how clean her soul was. A virgin maid, pure as white gold, trusting and innocent like the sunrise. One who loved and was loved and though in her lfie she was next to nothing, she was happy. Bending down it's long, lean neck the unicorn touched the girl's chest with the tip of it's horn; blessing her.~

~A unicorn's blessing is a rare and covented thing with grants the person the power over life. Other were more drawn to them, and felt better in their presence. Plants which were wilted sprung to life. The injuries of the wounded suffered no infection and the ill recovered in a fraction of the time they would without the blessed one's aid. And this gift was given to the kind hearted, strengthening them in their good will and fortune.~

~Parthenia was found later by her parents, asleep in the field. The girl held no recollection of her divine encounter with the legendary guardian of purity. How could she know that even now it was protecting her from death?~

Alaizabel continued to tug at the heart but she could not remove it, something was holding the girl's life tightly.
It was white magic, like none she had ever come across before and it was stronger than her. It was keeping the girl alive... but that didn't mean she couldn't take her strength from it.
Concentrating, the demon began to drain the pure flowing energy more vigorously, feeling her entire body resonating with new power... yes, her old strength was returning to her now.
All of a sudden she wrenched her hand away, staring at the blood dripping from it as she gasped. The power inside of her... she had never drained this much from touching a human heart, let alone consuming it. Yet this girl had a deeper, purer magic than any human.
She smiled to herself, looking over at the girl who seemed rather dazed from the drain.
"I think you and I are going to be very good friends Paige... but we need to keep it a secret."
Her gaze fell to the shattered amulet. With a flick of her wrist it became whole again, then she put it back around the girl's neck. Then she traced a finger along the wound, sealing it up before doing up her dress again, making the girl look like nothing had happened... she now had the power to clear up after herself.
Finally, Alaizabel placed a hand on the girl's cheek, leaning forward to whisper in her ear.
"You won't remember me sweetheart, but I will always remember you... and this is not our last meeting. You have a sweet power inside of you... I will need that power again. So whenever you hear me call your name, no matter what you are doing or who you are with you will go after my voice. You will make sure you are alone... then we'll see each other again." The demon leaned back. "But until then, you will tell people nothing of this. You went to see the baby, he is fine now but it was a very distressing time, hence why it took you so long to return."
Alaizabel smiled gently before stepping away, walking back into the shadows and dematerialising.
After she had dissappeared, the door clicked unlocked.

"I think you and I are going to be very good friends Paige... but we need to keep it a secret." The words were slurred and confusing but Paige did not like them, not in the slightest. They were evil and cruel and followed by an extreme pain like the life was being ripped from her soul. Her conscieness slowly returned to her, but her vision was blurred and she could not see the face of her attacker. Only the crimson color on it's hand and she demonic smile on it's face.

Parthenia stood still, weakened to the point she thought she may pass out again. Now the bloody hand, the hand covered in her blood, held the amulet. Aethrya had giving it t her, didn't she? Or had Paige found it? It was pretty, but hadn't it shattered? Paige didn't know. She couldn't know anything right now. Her whole body was throbbing in agony and she didn't know anything around her. There was only pain the know.

And slowly the pain was fading. Parthenia could feel her dress being laced up gently and the wetness of the blood on her chest being wiped away, leaving her clean once again. The gashes and hole which had caused her such great suffering where gone like they'd never been there to begin with. Everything was perfectly fine, but Parthenia felt to weak to smile and reassure herself she had suffered a vivid nightmare.

"You won't remember me sweetheart, but I will always remember you... and this is not our last meeting. You have a sweet power inside of you... I will need that power again. So whenever you hear me call your name, no matter what you are doing or who you are with you will go after my voice. You will make sure you are alone... then we'll see each other again." The demon woman, now her new Mistress, swayed backwards and Paige could tell she was getting further away from her. "But until then, you will tell people nothing of this. You went to see the baby, he is fine now but it was a very distressing time, hence why it took you so long to return."

Parthenia understood. This womans voice was beautiful and she desperately needed to serve this new Mistress. She was priority above all else, but only when she called. Paige didn't know how she knew this because she had gone to make sure Harding was okay. The doctors had managed to help him before she had arrived and fortunatly he was doing fine. Paige watched as the woman she could not recognize backed away and seemingly vanish while the door unlocked and creeked open.

With her only support gone, Parthenia's knees gave out and she slumped against the wall, slidding down it until she lay on the cold stone floor. Her body was motionless, except for the slow and irregular rising and falling of her chest. Her normally vivid blue eyes were glazed over and she felt extremely tired and weak. That was to be expeted though, wasn't it? It had been a long day and it was completely natural, even a little sore (which she was). But that didn't explain the distinct smell of copper, very similar to the smell of freshly spilt blood.

After a few moments, Paige forced herself to move, standing up. She swayed a moment, feeling lightheaded and weak, but tried to push through it. Aethyra was expecting her and was probably wondering where she had gone. Paige touched the amulet with glowed with a warning intensity as she quickly hurried down the halls, careful not the stumble due to her sudden fatigue. After what seemed like an eternity, Parthenia reatched the dinning room where the others were and lingered just outside the door, wishing to gather her strength and taking a few deep breaths so to look presentable. She was utterly exahusted but determine to remain loyal to her Mistress, her best friend, and her secret blood sister.

Then she stepped into the room and was stuck like a bullet with the most horrifying scene. Alain knelt beside Aethrya who was on her back, unsconscience, eyes widen and blood dripping from her lips. "AETHYRA!" Parthenia cried out, despite the fact it could get her in huge trouble for using the Heir's first name. The amulet throbbed violently and Parthenia clutched it in her hand. This was the amulet fueled by Aethrya's heart, and if harm came to it harm came to Aethrya, but this was something else entirely. It was almost like the amulet had shattered, but it was entirely whole! That didn't make sense, but there was no time for sense. Parthenia ran foreward with all the small strength she'd managed to withhold and knelt before Aethrya, quickly fassening the precious ward around the Heir's neck.

"Aethrya-" Paige said, sounding frantic, as she thought she was going to lose her best friend and blood sister. She sat beside the girl, her hands gripping the Heir's shoulders firmly, trying to awaken her from the sudden paralysis. In her blue eyes, though they were glazed and tired, was determination and adoration. Her entire body was shaking with effort, the only thing keeping her from collapsing on the floor. But Paige had no intention of fainting away during such a crisis. "Aethyra, it's me; Parthenia! Your protective amulet is back and your heart is safe once again. Wake up Aethrya, I'm begging you! Please be strong! Aethyra!" The anme said five times without her status being properly adressed, and yet Parthenia didn't care. Aehtyra's life was at stake, and tears spilt from Paige's eyes as she had a lingering suspition it was all her fault.

Alaizable travelled through the shadows back to the dining room, following the steps of Paige.
She was more than surprised when she saw the state of the princess on the floor, had Trifect revealed himself as a traitor? No, as the man in question was giving direction to the medical wing to that rogue Alain. Now why was he helping the princess? Not that it mattered, what mattered was that the princess survived... at least long enough for Alaizabel to exact her revenge.
Once the room was clear apart from Trifect she clicked her fingers, causing the doors to drift shut slowly to give them some privacy as she materialised from inside the shadows.
"Oh my, I do hope she's going to be alright... I should hate to have gone to all this trouble only to have her die by a hand other than mine." She said, walking forward slightly before sliding into one of the chairs, her eyes on the chancellor.
All around the room, hiding in the corners the shadows were writhing more than usual, drawn by her power. She herself could feel the strength of her magic brimming over her, it was intensifying the ethereal beauty of her human form and making her practically radiant with magic. It had been so long since she had felt this full of power, and the demon had no desire to lose that feeling again.
"That girl was a marvellous choice Trifect, did you know she had been touched by white magic? That's why I couldn't kill her... but I can take what I need from her at anytime. Whoever knew the light could be so useful." She murmured, a soft smile playing on her lips. Then she sat up, looking at him intently. "But now to business, you seemed to be getting rather friendly with that man, Alain was it? Is he worth bringing to our side? I know he would be willing to... with the right motivation."
If Alain was worth bringing to their side, she would need to figure out exactly what would persuade him before making a move.
Money was the obvious answer, and she was certain that Trifect had already offered it, but with the way he reacted to the princess's sudden attack she figured there was a better way to go about this. Besides, she remembered when she spoke to him... how he had turned around like he was expecting something in particular... something, or someone.

Trifect didn’t say another word as Alain left carrying the Heir on his back. He just shrugged, and picked his cane back up. Seems that Alain was in such a hurry, that he left it behind. What a shame. Trifect wasn’t really surprised when the doors shut and Alaizabel appeared. After all, he was used to her by now. “She’s made a blood pact with the servant girl. To be quite honest, I hoped they would have both died. Alas, my hope was in vain. However it is of no consequence, seeing as you are fully revived once again.” Trifect bowed before Alaizabel, out of respect for her now returned powers. “I was aware she had been touched by white magic, though to the extent I was not sure. As far as Alain is concerned, he is an above average theif. He is someone that could be useful for political measures, but my deal with him was one to protect my cover. I figured smiting the man where he stood, wouldn’t exactly leave me looking like the weak old man I’ve worked so hard to seem like all these years. To ruin a cover like that, over someone like him, it wouldn’t be wise. He wouldn’t necessarily be a bad ally to have, but he is human after all. It is your choice naturally. Now, if I may be so bold to ask, what is our next move?”

Leon had been in the throne room since he talked with Aethyra. Dealing with people that have questions and whatnot. It was a necessary part of the job, but one of the least glamorous portions. Aethyra was taking abnormally long to do the task she was given earlier. What was that girl up to this time? Sometimes he rather regretted allowing them to live among him. If he had his own heir, he likely wouldn’t have bothered. He was still under the thought that they could learn to rule the kingdom properly however. Could they really learn though? Only time would tell. As Selphie walked in Leon just looked at her, with an indifferent gaze. “I did send for you. I sent Aethyra on a little job this morning, to bring me a man from the dungeon that the old King saw fit to lock up. However, unsurprisingly she has yet to complete the task, and once more brings dishonor to her name. I wish for you, someone more competent, to complete the task. Bring the man to me, I care not to see my heir at this point. Do no permanent harm to them, and use force only as necessary. Understood? If so you may leave to it.”

Alaizabel raised an eyebrow at his words.
"I have to disagree Trifect, I have plans for both that involve them being alive... for now. But I must admit I am impressed; with the type of magic humans were using I would have guessed blood magic had been forgotton. I wonder if they even realise how powerful they have made their bond..." She looked at her hand, feeling her own blood pumping beneath the pale skin. "Strings of blood bind far longer than any emotion."
She stood up as he spoke about Alain, walking over to Trifect while she listened.
"Hmm, that was probably a smart move. I saw how the princess acted around you, clearly the trust placed in you by the royal family has weakened in her... you should be careful. But you won't need to be for much longer." Her eyes slid over to him. "My powers are now fully restored... it has reminded me of the taste of chaos. I want it back. So as to our next move... we're going to put on a show."
She gave a slight giggle, walking around Trifect slowly while she spoke.
"What I need you to do, my dear friend, is make sure nobody leaves. A spell, a shield, a creature... anything will do. But do not forget that there is magic within these walls, I want it so that only you or I can remove this barrier so that not so much as an insect could leave this place. Meanwhile, I think it's time I met this new ruler himself... if you spread trouble in every corner then there will be nowhere to run... and the princess will have nowhere to hide from me. I will be able to take the time and enjoy her suffering."
Alaizabel stopped behind Trifect, her eyes turning black for a moment.
"If you do this task well Trifect, you shall be rewarded. When this is over, my dear student, I will teach you the final secret to your magic. The one that will finally allow you to become one with the darkness, reaching the highest levels of power. However, should you fail me..." Without warning, Alaizabel suddenly thrust a hand into Trifect's back, her extended talons piercing the skin and digging into the spine. Not enough to kill or even wound, but enough to cause excrutiating agony. "I will be very disappointed in you. I have no use for those who disappoint me."
She held the hand there a moment longer before slowly withdrawing it, her magic healing any scars instantly. Then with a soft smile she raised that same hand to his cheek, turning him to face her.
"But I'm certain you will make me proud." She murmured gently, before turning and walking back towards the shadows. Her voice floated back to him, "And continue your work with Alain, human or not he is close to the princess... he could be useful in the future."
Then the demon dematerialised into the shadows, her senses turning to see out this lord who had taken the throne.
