Yulissa was born with a head of nearly golden yellow hair, pale yet pretty as it shone in the daylight. She took her mother, Althea's, hair, as well as her eyes. When she was younger Yulissa had always been growing faster than her older twin, becoming taller and stronger than Levi. It was only when she began experimenting with hexes that she accidentally hexed herself, stunting her growth and causing her to become physically frail. Unlike Levi who was blossming and becoming beautiful, Yulissa's eyes were too much like daggers, and her voice too salacious.
Regardless, Yulissa still dresses in appropriate regal wear for a Princess of her stature, particularly enjoying colors like blue and green in her wardrobe. She seems dainty and has delicate body language which belies the personality within. She was to never stand out more than Levi, never shine more than Levi, so as such she preferred to not be the pretty sister. Her makeup remains simpler than Levi's, and her clothing, half a grade less magnificent.

As I walked, I sensed you coming near,
But since when had you been so close to me?
This is simply the way our roads now intersect-
A bond we've all learned to see.

But as I look to the sky up above,
Searching through all of the things that I see,
I just can’t shake this strange unease
From the pain of that past memory.

I can feel this strength flowing endlessly inside my yearning heart,
Because I've found the things I swore that I’d protect
As these vistas pass back and forth right here, my troubles seem to disappear
As my feelings and my will both intersect.

At the start of time, when we first began, we swore this solemn vow:
That we would pass our judgment on the darkness here.
Even if we fell to our weaker selves, we swore we'd never turn around.
We would fight until our heartache disappeared.

As this well known scene plays before our eyes and our past fades away,
I feel the signals showing me which way to go.
I will cast aside all the things I hold that weigh me down and block my way,
And I'll choose to venture forth with all I know.

From the day she was born Yulissa was the unfavored sister. Even as an infant they all doted on the beautiful and intelligent Levi, choosing her to be the heir, the future Queen. The weight of the world was put on her shoulders from the moment she was born. Even as a child Yulissa did not mind that. Levi was given a much stricter life while Yulissa was allowed to eat as she pleased, and play as she wished. She made friends with children of the Arvis family, a family tied closely with the Military Police, and was allowed to see Magnolia for what it was, rather than what their mother and Queen, Althea, tried to pretend it was. Still, the closest person to Yulissa was always Levi, the smaller, cuter, and smarter sister. While Levi was fit to rule, Yulissa was raised to be her adviser and guide.

At ten years old their parents decided the twins were too close, too codependent. They were separated from one another, Yulissa was taken from the private tutoring lessons and enrolled in an Academy for rich children where she could study with Sonya and Sylas Arvis, her friends from social gatherings with the nobility. Yulissa learned of demon labor, she learned of Rebel Dimensions who defied Magnolia's will and of the Outlaw Dimensions who had yet to accept them. She learned of the cruelty of humanity, but the cruelty mages could bear as well. But no matter the adventures she had with the Arvis siblings, Yulissa always looked forward to Levi's night visits above all else. Together they summoned their familiars - Pen going to Levi, and Azure belonging to Yulissa - and despite being caught, Yulissa would never regret having made that decision.

In Magnolia, young mages are allowed to choose their specialty anywhere between the ages of ten and fourteen. While Yulissa had always excelled in ice magic, she didn't feel like it was what suited her. She learned of a dangerous magic, a powerful magic, it was typically illegal to use freely. Students were taught hexes and curses not because it was good to learn, but because they would learn how not to use them. With how much fighting and danger there was in Magnolia, with how many people tried to incite terror and fear in the hearts of the people, Yulissa figured the best magic to eliminate the enemy was with curses. She delved into her studies, focusing entirely on the arts of hexing and cursing, and even took the exam to earn her license to use those magics for the sake of Magnolia. Unfortunately, as side effects of this magic, Yulissa had seemingly permanently impaired her body. No longer was she strong and full of energy but now she tired entirely too quickly. No longer could she grow but was frozen at thirteen years old. She even lost hearing on her entire left side, and her Pangolin Disease only worsened from there.

But because of this, Yulissa became one of the most frightening users of hexes and curses Magnolia has ever known.

Yulissa's responsibilities grew as a result. She was assigned to hunting a famed terrorist by the name of Siegfried, she was made to volunteer alongside the Patriots on occasion, she was given a leading role in the subjugation of Constantia, and was even given temporary responsibility over the witch Zinnia Evernight, the legendary White Witch of Constantina. But Yulissa had a different plan. And it all started with a certain necklace...

|| Found Tonight || Dear Hamilton ||

What does one do when their entire life has suddenly spiraled out of control? Levi did not know. She suddenly found herself in the center of a rebellion against her very own flesh and blood, against the one person she thought she could trust through thick and thin. Pen was the only one Levi could rely on now. As much as she wanted to believe in the Patriots, Levi did not know how to open her heart up to others. Her Mother had made her to be tough and indiscriminate. Now Levi found herself admist of tightly knit group that were attempting to welcome her into their ranks. They sat at the dinner table, discussing their day, strategies, the show that they would all attend tomorrow. Levi attempted to smile, she attempted to believe that everything was somewhat normal, but her stomach roiled in pain. Nothing she knew was true and the world carried on. Shouldn't everything have stopped? Shouldn't someone cry along with her?

"Thank you for the meal, it was delicious." She rose from her seat, Pen following her up the steps and to the room she now occupied, the last one on the right side. "Princess," Pen closed the door behind her. "I can sense that you aren't alright, there's no use in lying." Levi pulled her robes off, glad to be rid of them at last. "Everything is wrong. This world, my sister, me. Yet, everything is still spinning so quickly that I'm terribly dizzy and nauseous." Pen looked up at the ceiling, then back down at the Princess. "Nothing is right," she agreed. "In the time that I've been in the palace with you, this doesn't seem like Yulissa at all. Then again, Azure is the one that truly knows her." She sat down beside Levi, who was naked and hugging herself. "But things don't have to be right for you to keep going on. The crown is rightfully yours and I'm sure once the people have realized that you are no longer asleep, like Yulissa has told them, they will rise up to put you on the throne."

"What if I don't want the throne?" Levi whispered, knitting her fingers into her hair. "What if it turns me into a tyrant and monster too?" Pen shook her head, "You're too soft for that." Her familiar smiled, "you're the most gentle human I've ever met." Levi smiled, hope welling up inside of her. "I don't want to kill Yulissa," Levi whispered, suddenly terrified. "You don't have to, you just have to show her who the rightful Queen is," Pen attempted to reason. "They'll scream for her blood," they would want Yulissa to be executed. "Well, that's your decision as Queen, isn't it?" She was right. Once Levi took the crown, the final decision was her own.

"Now, let's go to bed. You're going to the theater tomorrow, it'll be your first time there." Pen smiled, glad that her Master was allowed these new experiences now that Althea was gone. While it was sad her Mother had perished, Levi was a bit excited to see all of Magnolia, the good and the bad. She had seen the market and the craft wards thus far, but there was much more to explore. As Levi prepared for bed, she reminded herself that there were still some good things, that she could save and repaire their city and reputation. Levi swallowed hard, recalling Lumier and Yuu's quest to save their friend. When would they leave? She wondered, eager and afraid to leave the borders she grew up in. Yulissa had gone back and forth many a time, but this would be Levi's first expedition outside.

Gamma Aileron was a musical made by the famous playwright and composer, Janna Wreckum. It was a musical about the life of soldiers who became like brothers in the war against Arnor, eighty years ago. The play was written before Janna succumbed to her Pangolin Disease four years ago, and was considered to be her best work. The mix of musical numbers, the writing, the plot, people often cried as they went to see it. Yulissa sighed as she put on her dress as per Sonya and Azure's advice. The black cloak and dark colors were nice, admittedly, and the sparkles on the inside of the cloak looked like stars which was always a plus. But there was still something bothering the sickly Queen. "It's not too fancy, is it? She asked, feeling self conscious as she did a bit of a twirl.

"I think it looks great on you." Sonya said with a crafty grin, shooting her a thumbs up from her relatively simple long blue dress. Azure was wearing a pretty pastel pink dress for herself. "I love it, Master! It's so fitting for you!" Azure wiggled her tail, beaming. Yulissa wasn't sure if she was supposed to be insulted or not. "I can't help but feel overdressed." As Sonya put the exquisite makeup on her face Yulissa kept squirming and twitching. She was not used to this in the slightest. "It's because you're not used to being the star of the show." Sonya explained calmly, powdering her nose. "You were always meant to be in Levi's shadow, but for once, you get to be the one that stands out." Yulissa frowned, not sure if she liked the sound of that. "Fine, I suppose." She sighed, waving her hand dramatically. It was nice to dress up in front of Silas at least.

The Antebellum Theater was gorgeous, ornate and golden in design. If there was a cultural center in Magnolia, this was it. Everyone who was anyone went here to enjoy plays, concerts, musicals, anything you like. Sometimes noble children would have birthday parties here and use their parents money to book the entire theater for themselves. There were four halls, one for each cardinal direction. Gamma Aileron would be showing in the East Hall for them to enjoy. "You look nice." Sylas said, looking quite delicious himself in the black and white tuxedo he was wearing. For a soldier he sure knew how to clean up for himself. "Y-you do too." It was hard not to blush when seeing him, dressed up as she was. It was usually Levi who was fancy, not Yulissa.

The Patriots were given tickets, bought for them by Yulissa herself. It would be good to gain them as allies if possible, since everyone loved the Patriots and the work they did for the people. If Suzuya could endorse Yulissa, that would hopefully help quell the ever rising risk of rebellion in Magnolia. The two lone wolf terrorists, Sigfried and Shiho, were also present, in hiding as they awaited to make their move.

|| Found Tonight || Dear Hamilton ||

When Levi awoke that morning, Adelyn was waiting on the end of her bed, a dress in hand. "I bought this for you, Princess." She smiled, gesturing to the garment bag. "What is that?" Levi asked, wondering why Pen had let her in when she was still sleeping, but it seemed Pen had drifted off herself, sitting on the windowsill with a blanket draped over her. No doubt Adelyn had done that. "As you know, it is customary to dress in your finest when you go see a play. I figured you might have left your finest at home, so I've acquired this," she unzipped it, revealing a marvelous flame colored dress. "I have one for your familiar as well, I thought she would probably be in attendance." Adelyn rose, the noble of the house up until now. She opened up another bag, revealing a more simple, but equally gorgeous dress in purple. "Thank you Adelyn, that's very kind of you. Would you mind if I get dressed now?" Adelyn rose and bowed, "Yes your Grace," Levi waved her hands, blushing heavily. "No, no, please call me Levi. No need to be so formal," but Adelyn would hear nothing of it.

Pen awoke at the sound of Levi rising and jumped to her feet, the blanket falling off of her. "Oh, is this for me?" Her eyes sparkled, ever the girly girl. "Yes, you can thank Adelyn." Levi smiled as she brushed her hair and prepared for morning. When she arrived downstairs, the other Patriots had all gathered at the table. "Good morning Levi, we've been waiting." Suzuya smiled, gesturing to an open seat. "I apologize, I didn't realize breakfast was called so early." Suzuya shook her head, "No need. We merely wanted to assemble as a team before heading out today," Suzuya cleared her throat, getting right down to business as soon as Levi and Pen took the open seats. "Today, we will be declaring our allegiance to the Queen, Yulissa." Suzuya spoke, to everyone else's alarm. She held up a hand, "but we will not truly be working for her. Underneath this cover, we will continue to be funded, but will be free to operate."

"I've already elected to place Xavi in the position of insider. He will be gathering core information for us. Adelyn, as you also come from a noble house, you will be you will be listening to the gossip of the inner circle," her eyes sparkled. "Oh, I do so enjoy gossip," her smile was veiled with thin lips. "Endro will be my second in all of this." Suzuya spoke, the leader of the rebellion. "Lumier and Yuu, as you two are the newest. I will assign you to keep watch over the Princess," Levi slammed her fist against the table. "Just one second there," she said, drawing their attention. "I will not sit idly by while you all endanger yourselves underneath my flag." Yuu shook his head, he seemed to understand it. "If something were to happen to you and we dethrone Yulissa, we would have no one to lead Magnolia." Her hands curled up, her nails biting into her palms.

"And what will you have me do, wait on the sidelines and sip tea while you all spill blood?" Her hands trembled, "If that is what it takes to protect you, then yes." Suzuya replied without skipping a beat, "you've never fought before. You have never seen action, or the violent sides of Magnolia. By all means Princess, we intend to keep you safe and we cannot do that if you foolishly risk yourself on the front line." Levi bit down on her lip, was it foolish? Perhaps. A childish desire? No doubt. "I want to help," she continued to insist. "Fine then, you can be a patrol team. They don't see much combat, but should something happen or Yulissa want backup, you will be the first to hear of it. Now, I believe we all have a show to attend."

The East Theater was welcoming. There was a beautiful chandelier, filled with beautiful lights and stadium style seating so that no matter where you sat, you'd get a great view of the stage below. There were magical speakers so that you would receive surround sound in each seat, and most importantly of all, it was all very clean, there wasn't even a trace of dust. The Antebellum Theater was one of Magnolia's prides and wonders, and Yulissa was glad to be here despite her dress. Azure was pouting as she was not allowed to sit on Yulissa's shoulder as usual. "Cheer up, a great show's about to begin!" Sonya grinned as the four of them sat in the special box office seats for VIPs. The Patriots were also given VIP Seats up here, with magnifying windows to simulate being able to sit in the front row, without all the hassle of having other people around you.

Suzuya and her Patriots had come. Yulissa gave them a smile and a bow, with friends and subordinates bowing as well. "Thank you all for accepting my invitation." Yulissa said. She purposely gave them all seats to her right so that she could properly hear them. She was deaf in her left ear after all. "I hope we can properly become friends in these troubling times." With terrorism and violence only worsening no matter how many purges she called upon, there was an urgent need for allies to depend on. Xavi, due to being Janna's brother, was given free tickets so he was also up in the box seats. He invited his friend, Endro, who he worked with often in Yulissa's palace. "Adelyn's a Patriot?" Sonya gapsed in surprise. The Arvis family and the Grace family were two of the most prestigious families in Magnolia. "Yes, she told us a while ago." Silas rolled his eyes at his sister. "Don't mind her, Adelyn, Sonya forgot your altruistic streak." Yulissa of course remembered it. "Thank you for attending my coronation." She gave a smile to her old friend. All the noble families were friends and allies, of course. "It's been too long since we've met."

Lumier, one of the new Patriots, let out a yelp of surprise. "Darris? He's in the play?" Darris was given a starring role at the Actors Guild, starring as the brother of the main character who becomes a soldier with him to fight against Arnor's forces. Magnolia's subjugation of Arnor was much more violent than what happened with Constantina. As Arnor had an actual proper standing military, both cities went to magical war with one another. "I put him close by for you, as Zinnia requested of me." Yulissa's smile was genuine. She believed in love and she knew one day Silas would come to love her. "Zinnia?" Yuu's eyes went wide. Did they know about Yue taking her back to Constantina? "I can arrange for you two to meet with her if you'd like." Yulissa said kindly. "I'm sure you've both been worried."

"These are our two newest members." Suzuya said, gesturing with her arm towards the two Patriots Yulissa did not recognize. "Their names are Lilac and Penina." The Queen looked at them and bowed in respect. "Thank you for joining the Patriots. It's always good to have more people join your ranks." She believed in their goal - the betterment of Magnolia. It was just they had different methods to reaching that ideal. Lumier stared at the glass, keeping her eyes trained on Darris. "Yuu, I'm going to try and talk to him after the show." She whispered, voice trembling. "I'm just - I'm just so glad he's still alive."

Her sister was clever, inviting all of these important people here, where the public could see that even if they did not declared their loyalty, the acceptance of the invitation alone was a clear announcement of where they stood. Levi bit down on her lip as they entered the grand halls of the theater. She had never been here before, but she had recalled that her Mother and Father had attended many a play. Levi was always too busy to come, she was practicing or studying and knew that even if her Mother extended the invitation, it was more of a formality than anything. The truth was, the Kingdom had seen very little of Levi. She only attended formal events or large openings, nothing dangerous and never without a team of Guardians surrounding her at all times. Her Mother was protective of Levi, perhaps overly so.

"It's an honor to meet you, my Queen," her heart had leaped into her throat as she curtsied. Pen too, bowed before their current Queen. Queen Yulissa, how strange, Levi had never thought that would happen. No one could have predicted that her sister would have taken the throne. Even standing before her, Levi felt as though she did not recognize her own twin. "Yes, we are delighted by this opportunity," Pen added. Her sister did not recognize them either, although that was more than likely due to the disguises they wore. The spell they had cast to change their looks was effective. Levi rose, moving to take her place beside Yuu and Lumier, her appointed protectors. Lumier's eyes were cast towards the stage the moment the play began. It seemed that Yulissa had taken measures to make certain that her beloved, Darris, was close by. Clever, to pull on the heartstrings of others.

Levi would have admired it more in her sister if she had not betrayed her trust. Why had she purged her people? Why was she killing her own citizens instead of listening to them? Perhaps Yulissa needed to go through the classes their Mother had put Levi through? Was that why she was doing this? It was hard to pay attention to the show with her sister so close. "I think I'm going to use the restroom," Levi rose. Yuu moved to go with her, but Levi shook her head. "Penina will come with me, no need to worry," Pen rose, she could sense Levi's unease of course. It was a wonder how Azure had not sensed them, or perhaps she had and was not saying anything to Yulissa. "It's hard, isn't it?" Pen asked as they entered the Ladies Room. Levi stood by the sink, her hands curling around the ceramic.

"I don't understand," Levi whispered. "She looks like Yule, she speaks like Yule, but she isn't her. It's like a stranger is wearing her skin. What do I do Pen?" Her familiar placed a hand on her shoulder, attempting to put her at ease. "You keep moving forward. You are meant to be Queen, you have to hold your head up in the face of adversity." Pen was right, but no matter how many lessons Levi had, had on the subject, she had no practice. "My entire world is falling apart and I'm expected to sit idly by while everyone else fights."

Azure sniffed, her kitty whiskers twitching as she watched the two leave to the restroom from the corner of her eye. "I need to pee too, Master!" She mewled. Yulissa sighed, ruffling her hair and giving her the ear scritches she loved so much. "Are you sure you're not a dog?" She smiled gently. "Go and take care of your needs, you don't need my permission." Azure nodded, trotting off. Cats were more aloof, more cold and calculating. But Azure was affectionate and loved making new friends. But she was also excellent at keeping up with old friends. If Yulissa was an expert with hexes, Azure was an expert at friendship. You could call her the friendship guru if you wanted to, she could always fix problems between friends. Because she was a good kitty, that's why!

The hallway was very pretty indeed. The carpet felt really good on her feet. This building was so nice and welcoming, it was better than the Palace which was sad and quiet now after the coup. She supported her Master's dreams, but Azure still had other ideas on what could be done. She didn't say anything though because it was her job to always believe in Yulissa. Yule was always looking ahead, and Azure wasn't very smart at all really. Still, she was the friendship expert. She even made herself a friendship expert license to prove it in case anyone doubted her. She drew the certificate herself using crayons. "Lilac, Penina, is this the girls room?" She asked, poking her head in, catching the two girls at the sink. Azure smiled at them, her cheeks a pink tinge as her tail wiggled behind her.

The white cat named blue trotted forward, giving both Lilac and Penina big intimate hugs. "I'm the friendship expert, Azure! Here, look at my business card!" She sniffed them both to confirm her suspicion. "And friendship experts never forget friends. I knew it was you, Pen! And that means this has to be-" She fell silent. As dumb as Azure was, that didn't mean she completely forgot the importance of discretion. "You two are both alive and okay. You don't know how happy that makes me! Yule and I were so worried after you left, we wasn't sure if it was a good person or a bad person that took you!" But as it turned out, it was the Patriots. "Suzuya and the Patriots are really good people, so I'm happy it was them."

Oh, right. No doubt they were in hiding for a reason. "I won't tell Yule. It's up to you sisters to deal with that when the time comes, okay?" The cat smiled, tears in her eyes. "Just don't disappear like that again! It's really sad!" They couldn't know that it was Yulissa that hexed her, they weren't allowed to know. As much as Azure was nice, she couldn't betray her Master like that. But she didn't want Yulissa to do it to her again either. Levi was too naive, but maybe some time in the real world would help her learn how to better be the queen Magnolia needed. At the very least, it would help her the next time Yulissa tried to sneakily hurt her.

Then Azure collapsed to the ground in that very moment as a magical sniper bullet pierced her chest. She had jumped in that instant, almost dodging it but at the very least her head was intact. A smoking wand revealed a girl in a detective hat, smiling at her prey. "The Patriots are siding with the Evil Queen?" She was surprised. "But only Azure was the target today." Sigfried was nowhere to be seen. She trained her wand on the panting Azure. "I dampened the sound, so no one outside of this bathroom can hear anything." Shiho said with a plucky smile. "Don't get in my way, okay? Snipers don't like being messed with." She licked her lips, ready to finish off the evil Queen's familiar. Once Azure was dead, much of her magical power would be weakened. Azure was her mana amplifier. She was the secret to her strength.

Levi froze when the bathroom door opened. She whirled around, but relaxed when she saw that it was only Azure. Wait, Azure? Levi tensed almost instantly as the demon came forth, sniffing around them. It seemed that they had been caught after taking so many measures to change their features. They could not trick a mana sniffing cat. "Hello Azure," Levi smiled as Pen scowled. The two demons got along, but Pen did not appreciate being found out. "Don't be so loud," she said, placing her hands on her hips. "What if someone outside heard you?" After all, Pen and Azure were famous among Magnolians. They were familiars that were treated with the utmost respect. Although right now, Pen could pass for any other witch in the realm. Her wings were concealed, folded tightly against her back and bound beneath the dress. They were her only demonic feature.

"Yes, we're alive," Levi smiled, glad to see her friend again. "No, the Patriots did not take us." Levi shook her head, "I think someone must have lifted the hex. I awoke and panicked, so I ran away." Levi explained softly, "I didn't understand what had happened so I went without thinking." Levi didn't want Azure to think that she had run away from her sister. "Everything is... so confusing right now." Levi admitted, touching her head. She reached out to rub Azure's ear between her fingertips, it was soft and fuzzy, familiar among all of the confusion. "I feel lost," Levi admitted. "I feel as though Yulissa has been lying to me for quite some time. She isn't the sister I thought she was. I thought she was the kind of person that could never hurt a fly, but it turns out that I'm gravely mistaken." Levi shook her head, she needn't tell Azure all of this, least the demon report back to her master.

"You won't tell her, will you? I need some time away right now. I'm staying with the Patriots until I can figure out what is happening." Pen crossed her arms. "It's not like we had a choice but to go either, what with the hex and all." Pen had assisted in Levi's running away. Or was it an escape? She did not know. "You can tell Yulissa that I'm safe, if you wish, but nothing more than that." As it could give her position away. "For the time being, I'm Lilac and Pen is Penina, but you can't tell anyone else." Levi knew that Azure was smart, she may act childish, but demons were much more mature than humans and sometimes even mages, as they grew especially fast. "And don't go announcing my name like that," Pen scolded, but it was lightly. Levi's eyes widened when Azure suddenly collapsed. "Azure!" She screamed, Pen grabbing her.

"Princess, get behind me!" Pen put up a shield of wind between them and the assailant. She appeared to be a girl, wearing a detective hat and cloak. "Stay away from her," Levi growled, whipping out her wand. She really did need a new one, this one still had the royal seal embosed into its wood. "Don't touch her!" Demons could heal on their own as long as their soul piece was intact, "Pen, protect Azure!" Levi ordered, her familiar kneeling beside the downed demon, attempting to stem the flow of blood. "Frecknis!" Levi cast, the plants on the windowsill suddenly turning into vines that lashed out to latch onto the girl that had shot Azure.

The white cat smiled happily at Pen and Levi, glad to see that they were safe. "Please keep in tou-" She blinked, noticing it the moment before it struck. It aimed for her head, so she jumped so that her head would be safe. She went flying sideways, chest bleeding, the white cat's blood splashing onto Levi and Pen's faces as she landed on her side, eyes shut, gurgling as she tried to breathe. Shiho blew onto her smoking wand, the long range sniper magic having hit it's mark. She fired again, the magical bullet crashing against the wind barrier, weakening it but not breaking it. "Patriots, I understand that the Queen bought your loyalty, but don't you see? Don't you want all this bloodshed to end?" She did not understand. Shiho was an Arnorians, and the Arnorians were genocided horribly by Magnolia. Her parents were still traumatized by it, having been forced to live through it as children.

These patriots were trying really hard to protect this Azure. "Azure, that wild cat, she's why Yulissa is so strong. But if we kill the battery, we're one step closer to ending this reign of terror!" Why were they being so obstinate? Didn't they see Shiho was only trying to do what's right? "If we let them live, they'll kill everyone!" Still, it was clear that the Patriots were only being patriotic to the royal Anemone family now. No longer were they altruists that only wanted to help people. They had a price, and Yulissa was able to buy them out. "I'll tell everyone that the Patriots are traitors, that they'll kill!" She tried to charge up another attack but the vines lashed out, stealing her wand away and pinning her down.

That was when two blood tails broke through the window, slicing through the vines, pulling Shiho to him safely. Sigfried grinned, his blood magic lifting him up to the window just outside the ladies room from the ground floor. "Shh, it'll be okay. We can't hurt those two, Shiho. They're important." The sniper tilted her head in confusion. "But why? They won't let me complete my mission!" Shiho pouted, grabbing her wand back. "Don't you see, Shiho? Open your eyes a little. That person is our hope. Once we kill the Queen, that girl is the only one who can rule properly over Magnolia. Shiho's eye went wide as she mouthed the name.

"Levi."

The lost Princess really was alive. And now they knew where she was. "Now, let's move onto phase two." With security focused on the stage and people paying attention to the shows rather than the mid hallway, Sigfried could easily use magic to mend the window and have no one be any the wiser. He and Shiho stood in the bathroom, all evidence to the broken window gone. "My friends." He spoke softly. "Kill Yulissa, and the other Patriots. Leave no one in the box seats alive." The most feared terrorist smiled cheerfully Levi's way. "Don't worry. We'll give you your throne back. Just sit here like a good girl, okay?"

"The Queen did no such thing!" Levi replied, standing her ground. She needed to be strong in the face of adversity. That was the first lesson Althea had drilled into her. Levi squared her shoulders and held her wand so tightly that her knuckles were white. This was adveristy, this is what her Mother had warned her against. There would always be people that hated you no matter what you did. "Of course we want the blood shed to end, but killing her familiar is not the way to go!" Levi would not allow Azure to die, she was a friend, she couldn't die here. "Hang on," Pen whispered, pulling a potion out of her pocket and pouring it into Azure's mouth. A healing elixer, made specially for the Patriots by the local apothecary. According to Suzuya, they were to carry it on them at all times, should anything ever happen to one of them. Was it going against the rules to give it to Azure?

"Azure isn't a battery, she's a peace loving demon!" Levi replied, her palms bleeding from the force of her nails digging into them. "She's an innocent!" Azure only ever wanted to love others, she never wanted to harm anyone. "The Patriots protect this city!" The girl was clearly charging up for another burst, so Levi used a quick spell to bind her. She took a step back, a wave of wind going up to shield them in case the witch broke free. "Hang on Azure, we're going to get you out of here," Pen whispered, focusing on keeping their shield up. The window suddenly broke open, glass flying everywhere as the child sniper was pulled outside. Pen did not relax, but she allowed the barrier down a moment for them to investigate.

"Are they gone?" No, too little, too late. They reentered the bathroom, the window sealing shut behind them. Levi grasped her wand, her eyes widening. The white hair, that confident smile. He was the boy from the marketplace, the one that had taken Levi away from those mages that had intended to rob her. What was he doing here? Why did he want to kill Yulissa? Her eyes widened further, this was Yule's enemy. This man was Sigfried, the mad bomber that had been destroying parts of Magnolia in his terrorist schemes. "We need to get out of here," Levi whispered. "I'll say," Pen murmured. "I'm not going to stay here while you intend to kill everyone I cherish." Levi growled, "Infernus!" A missle of fire shot from her wand.

"Pen!" Pen grabbed Azure, the three of them running for the door. Levi grasped the handle, attempting to pull it open. Why was it locked? She jiggled the handle, "Openimum!" But the spell fizzled out and died. Why? Levi hadn't heard anyone cast a locking spell. She looked down, her eyes widening. There was a barrier, had that little girl activated it before coming into the bathroom? Levi whirled around, Pen holding Azure close. "Why are you doing this?" Levi growled, hoping that she could distract him and inch towards the window. It seemed that the glass panel would be their only way of escape, of course, if that wasn't magically sealed either.

This very moments, little blood soldiers were hiding in the box seats, waiting for a chance to strike. Because they were Sigfried's own blood, it meant he himself was low on blood and was weak right now, despite how he was able to hide it with that confident grin he always bore. Princess Levi was here in the flesh, as was her friend and ever-present companion, Pen. They could wear disguises, but Sigfriend would always know where they were. They would not let Azure die, but Sigfried did not want to harm the good princess. She did not deserve death just yet - they needed her to rule once Yulissa was eliminated. "You're pretty feisty for a sheltered little princess." Sigfried mocked her, rolling his eyes. "I guess you wouldn't have needed my help the other day then."

"Azure makes Queen Yulissa stronger." Shiho repeated herself. "But killing her will make it easier to eliminate the evil Queen! What's so hard about that to understand?" She glanced up at Sigfried, ever the loving follower. She clearly idolized Sigfried, and he was glad to have such a loyal companion. They were both from Arnor, they were the last ones still fighting against the Magnolians, as all other Arnorians gave up and accepted their new lives as slaves and tools for the Magnolians to control. They tried to open the door but perhaps in their panic they couldn't get out the bathroom. Fire struck but a quick errantrus from Shiho was enough to blow it away before it could scorch the weakened Sigfried who remained standing tall and strong, towering over everyone here. "You want to know why?" Sigfried's grin only grew wider, seeming almost carnivorous. "Isn't it obvious why I'm doing this?"

He stepped purposely closer to the three girls who were protected by the wind barrier. He gave it a touch and dispelled Pen's magic, touching Levi below the chin, cupping her face in his hands. "Queen Yulissa is evil now, you know." Shouldn't Levi know by now? "I know you saw the purging of Hephaestus Ward. The Patriots were there." He clicked his tongue with irritation. "You're still so naive, but once you learn what your mother's been hiding, all will make sense." Althea's biggest and darkest secret - not even Yulissa knew of it yet. How did Sigfried know? Well, that was a story for another time.

The door burst open then, revealing a very strange duo. Yulissa grinned coolly as she held up her wand. Suzuya was also there, wand glowing. "We predicted you would try this." Yulissa's wand glowed, ice bolts blasting throughout the room to stab at Sigfried's body. Shiho jumped in the way, taking heavy wounds in his stead. "Master, be careful! We're in a trap!" Suzuya shrugged her shoulders. "The moment I sensed the soundproof barrier I had a feeling there would be an attack here." She explained. "You two should turn yourselves in now." Sigfried sighed, closing his fist. His blood soldiers all returned to his body, the incision hidden on his back. "I'm sorry, but there won't be any games between us today." He picked up the fallen Shiho, cradling her like a princess. "My precious friend got hurt, so I'll have to tend to her wounds now." He apparated out as quickly as he came.

"I don't know why you two risked your lives to save Azure, but thank you." Yulissa retrieved her pet cat, holding her possessively. "I owe you both deeply for this. State what you want, and I will do everything in my power to grant it for you."

Levi wasn't sure if her grip on her wand could be any tighter. How had he seen through their disguises? Could Sigfried also read mana signatures? "Don't call me that," she growled. She was not a sheltered little princess. Sure, her mother had kept her from some of the bad parts of Magnolia, but Levi was doing her best to make certain that she saw her city for what it was; both the good and bad. She was not sheltered, she was trying her best and at the end of the day, wasn't that all she could do? Did they want her to do better than that? Levi didn't understand. "I didn't need your help," it was true, she could have handled the situation on her own. Most Magnolian citizens did not learn advanced magiks, they usually only knew what pertained to their profession.

"Azure is an innocent demon!" Levi protested as Pen held her tighter. Azure did not deserve to be attacked like this, she hadn't done anything wrong. What was she to do? How was she going to get them all out of this? "Killing is wrong! You're just trying to justify it!" Levi wouldn't let them die here. Azure was too important and if Levi died, then Yulissa would continue to rule. Sigfried did not seem to want to hurt her though, he had them cornered. He stepped closer to the wind barrier, somehow dispelling it. Pen's eyes grew wide, her jaw growing slack. How had he done that? Levi and Pen shared a glance, unable to discern how Sigfried had pulled apart her magic. He came forward, cupping Levi's chin in his fingertips. She stiffened, a spell at her fingertips in case she needed to use it.

She had never used her magic in battle, her inexperience was showing itself. "She isn't evil, she's just going down the wrong path." Levi attempted to reason. "She just needs... she needs guidance!" But Levi had been there, she had seen her sister kill a pregnant woman. She had held a mother as she died, crying for her child. Her heart thumped in her chest; Sigfried being here was no coincidence. He knew they were all going to be at the theater today, but how? Levi didn't know. Was he following them? Watching them? The thought perturbed her. "My Mother?" Levi's eyes widened. "You shouldn't speak ill of the dead." She had, had enough of this. "Windendum!" Levi cried, aiming the lightning directly at him.

The door burst open, Yulissa and Suzuya entering the scene. Sigfried's tiny friend jumped in the way of his attacks, her body taking the hits. Levi screamed, Pen putting up the barrier once more to protect them. Suzuya had sensed something would happen, she had come in the knick of time. Pen released the barrier as Sigfried made his escape through the broken window once more. She handed over Azure, who Yulissa held protectively against her. She spoke so coldely to them. Would she use that tone had she known that this was Levi and not Lilac? Would she use that tone when she addressed her next purging victims? "No need," Levi dusted herself off, glad that the situation had been dealt with. "The only thing we seek is a better Magnolia."

A curse to kill a blood mage. Was such a thing possible? It was the day after the show, and it had been quite the eventful show indeed. Azure was back to normal, having been healed up quickly from her injuries thanks to Silas. While Sonya was an intern and new recruit to the Assault Unit, Silas was training to be a combat medic in the Military Police. The Arvis siblings were both aiming for high ranking position, but they were already given special roles due to being dear treasures friends of Yulissa Anemone. While her staff was sorting through the new slaves from the Hephaestus Ward, Yulissa was hard at work in her room. She placed the gem on the pedestal and aimed her wand at it. "Viritus Almenaion." She chanted, a mist billowing out of her wand to circle around the gem.

No, it didn't take. She could tell because the gem didn't change colors. "What are you doing, Master?" Azure asked after popping up on Yulissa's right side, glancing at the work. "Are you making another curse?" Yulissa nodded, crossing her eyes as she tried to focus. "Sigfried's too dangerous. Now that I've made friends with the Patriots he can go after them." She didn't want that, she didn't want her new allies to get targeted. "Azure what are you doing up? Get some rest." The cat stiffened and shook her head. "No, I'm okay." She insisted, wagging her tail. "The potion Penina gave me helped." Lilac and Penina were the ones that saved Azure from Sigfried and the sniper mage. Yulissa frowned, shaking her head. "He went after you, he almost had you killed. I can't lose you, Azure, you're too important to me."

She opened her eyes, having an idea. By placing the opal on the mat, and surrounding it with a frozen ball of blood, perhaps that would help the curse take to the gem. "Viritus Almenaion." She cast, dark magic encircling the opal. The thing with curses was that there were no actual standard curses - you had to make them up on the spot depending on the victim you had in mind. Hexes were weaker, but were also more general in design. A mere hex would not be enough to take down Sigfried. For a death curse, you needed a lot of preparation. But that might just be the only way to get rid of Sigfried once and for all. "Aaah." Her throat was burning. Azure panicked, rushing to Yulissa and licking her to steal some mana in order to create a barrier of pure mana to try and block the curse. "Be careful! You already hurt yourself enough with curses!" Azure yelped in fear.

Yulissa choked and coughed, gagging on her own tongue. She shook her head, grasping at her throat. Azure put the anti-curse cloth over the opal and pullled Yulissa out of the Curse Room, whimpering. "You can't hurt yourself anymore! Experimenting with curses is dangerous!" Yulissa panted, her eyes stinging and watering. "It's only temporary... it's fine..." She was swaying, intense nausea was flowing through her body. But she could tell it was temporary, unlike the other damage she had already inflicted on herself. "If it helps get rid of Sigfried, I don't mind taking on damage... I just can't allow a criminal like him to keep hurting others."

There was a Council Meeting today on the subject of a small, minor Pocket Dimension called Var Nayya, located somewhere in the Rhodes Island area. Xavi Wreckum was on his way out when he saw Yulissa on her knees, and Azure trying to help her with licks and nuzzles. "What's wrong? Are you okay, your Highness?" Yulissa gave him a weak smile, tilting her head, but she didn't reply. "He asked if you're okay." Azure repeated into her right ear and Yulissa blinked. "I'm okay. Just practicing spells in order to beat Sigfried if he shows up again." She looked far from okay. If Xavi didn't know any better, that limp and sway could be the result of a curse.

Lumier and Yuu were scolded for leaving her side. After the incident, while she was praised for her quick thinking by Suzuya, the Princess was also scolded for getting herself into the situation in the first place. SHe had merely gone to the bathroom, Levi had tried to reason. She didn't need to be berated by someone that wasn't her Mother, Levi already had disappointed her enough. "I think I'm going to retire for the evening, thank you." Levi said as she went upstairs, Pen following her. The illusion dispelled, Levi returning to her normal body. "What do we do?" Pen asked fearfully, "Now Sigfried knows we're with the Patriots. He'll target us again," Levi whispered, sitting on the edge of her bed. "He said he knew secrets about my Mother not even Yulissa knows," Yulissa seemed to know their Mother a lot better than Levi did.

"I wouldn't believe him," Pen shook her head. "I bet he's a dirty liar," Levi wiggled out of her dress, her familiar pouncing to hang it up for her. "I'll go run the bath," Pen said, "you just relax. You've had a stressful-" she stopped, looking at Levi's arm. "What is that?" Levi turned to look in the mirror, her eyes widening. "It's a trace," she whispered, staring at the small golden bell on her forearm. "Could Sigfried have done it? Or Yulissa?" Levi asked worriedly, "For a"ll we know, it could have been Suzuya." Levi lifted her wand, "Dismenilia dismiss," Levi tried, but her wand sparked and faltered. To use magic, one had to be confident and right now, her confidence was faltering badly. "I can't dismantle it," she whispered fearfully. "Pen, why am I so useless?"

Her familiar placed her hands on her shoulders and smiled, "You're not useless. You're just confused right now, but once you regain your confidence, your skills will return. Now rest, we've had a long day," but Levi was hardly able to sleep that night. She tossed and turned restlessly, feeling as though her entire world had come apart once more. When morning came, she awoke on her own, just past sunrise and dressed in clothing borrowed from Suzuya. Levi would need to obtain clothing of her own, but she had no idea how commoners bought material. Did they make their own clothes? The castle of course had its own tailor. "Good morning," she said as she went downstairs, but it seemed most of the Patriots had already left for the day. "Good morning," Lumier waved. "We were thinking that today we could go buy you some essentials, since you're going to continue staying here."

"Oh, I think that's a wonderful idea." Levi agreed, glad for the suggestion. She managed to eat today, her appetite returning and drank a cup of juice that Yuu had just squeezed. She felt as though they were spoiling her because she was the Princess. Perhaps they wanted to simply be in the good graces of the future queen. Which was smart, but Levi also didn't need them to coddle her. "Alright, let's go," Levi cast the spell to change her features, Pen coming down the stairs to join them, yawning and stretching. "I want to see the town," she rubbed at her eyes. "Okay, but no taking things without paying." Pen blushed heavily and nodded in agreement, pulling on her cloak.

~~~
The castle was not intimidating, or at least, not to Zinnia. She stood on the steps of the front entrance, Blithe by her side. There was no one familiar around and almost as soon as they had arrived, Yue had gone off to do something on her own. Zinnia walked up the steps, wearing brand new robes that Blithe had obtained for her. "Nervous?" Her familiar inquired, both witch and demon wearing clothing that would cloak the black chains that weighed them down. Yue had alloted them both their magic for today, so Blithe could use her fox fire and Zinnia her normal abilities. "Hello," she announced upon entry. "I am here to see the Queen," no, not Queen Althea. That wicked witch was finally dead; Queen Yulissa, the one that had humiliated her and kept her in a jar and forced her to watch the exectution of her Father.
Yue had sent her here, for some unwitchly reason, to see her without telling Zinnia why. "Just a moment, she's in a meeting. You can come this way," the servant led Zinnia down the hall and to a neatly appointed office. It was clear that it had used to belong to Althea, considering Magnolia was a matrarichal society. It seemed her husband had not done much work around these parts. "Would you like anything? Tea? Biscuits?" The servant asked, pulling out a chair for the witch to sit in. "Tea would be fine, lemon ginger if you will." Zinnia replied, her stomach roiling. She crossed her slim legs and waited, rather irked that she had been summoned here while she was in the middle of refining the potion for Yue.
Yulissa was, not in fact, in a meeting. She was being forcibly put into a suitable dress by the hands of Sonya and Azure, her two biggest bullies. They were always so mean and cruel, it was as if they liked dressing her up or something. "Can you stop. Zinnia Evernight is waiting for me." Zinnia and Yue would be employed here at the Palace, though only for three days at a time. "I need to get this signed permission slip back to the Business Registry Office." Sonya grabbed it before Yulissa could reach for it. "A new cafe called Little Cup." Sonya read it with a chuckle. "That's cute. Dognog is a cute name for a dwarf. I'll give this to my brother to take to the Business Registry Office." Yulissa growled, her eyes twitching. "Don't tell him what to do, today's his day off!" Silas worked himself too hard, he deserved better than this.
"Silas does what I want, because I'm his big sister." Sonya said with a smug smile. Yulissa stared at her childhood friend. Was it true that Sonya was a worm? That she was not human? What kind of awful person would tell poor handsome Silas to do things like run errands on his day off? "I'm sure you could order him around too. It's in your power, silly." Sonya grinned. "Maybe you could order him to go on a date with you?" Yulissa's cheeks flushed at that idea. Sonya really was a good friend and person, she understood everything about her. Yule couldn't ask for anyone better. "I think you look good, Master." Yulissa sighed, unable to be angry at her cat familiar. "You always say that, Azure." Azure blushed, tail wiggling. She still looked as if she were in pain from the magical sniper attack, but she was doing her best to put on a strong face. "Now you're ready." Sonya smiled. "Go and meet Zinnia now."
Yulissa walked her way into the meeting room, wearing a
regal dress with red and frills. It was, tellingly, not the official dress Magnolian Queens were supposed to wear to meet with important people. There was a specific dress for that but Yulissa never allowed herself to wear dresses that Queens were traditionally supposed to don. She made her best smile despite the fatigue and discomfort she had today. Azure trotted in behind her with a soft smile, waving cheerily at Zinnia. "It's been quite a while. How are you today, Zinnia Evernight?" Azure beamed happily, unable to hold in the joy of a reunion. "Welcome back home! Or to where I hope you can be home! I missed you!" They had barely known each other, but Azure was easy to bond with people.
"I'm sure you're wondering why you're here. I'm instating you as the official Royal Potions Maker of Magnolia." Yulissa was going to cut straight to the chase. "Naturally, you'll be given a healthy compensation for the work you do. The public will make potions requests, and it is your job to make them with the allotted materials, which you'll find, are far more than what is available in Constantina." Magnolia's royal palace had the best inventory for potion making in all of the realms. "You will be compensated both in a good wage per potion, and in being allowed to keep some ingredients for your own personal use as you please." She handed Zinnia the schedule - which was very bare bones as the only requirement was that Zinnia be here three days each week. She could choose which days she wished to come.
"Yue's going to be the official Royal Seer of Magnolia. She'll share the same schedule you have so you two won't have to be separated." Azure filled in with a joyous smile. "Your Potions room is right next door to her Divining room so you'll always be right next to each other." Hopefully Zinnia understood that she did not have room to say no here. "You can see your friends while you're here. If you'd like, I can send the message so that they can come visit you here when you're on duty?"[/color
There was another way, however. [color=#06CC36]"I could also give you the information to be able to visit any of them as you please."
The walk to the market square was not far and Levi rather enjoyed it. They took a back road which was not bustling, but lined with cute cafes and flower shops. "If you want to stop for anything, just let us know," Yuu mentioned as they trekked across the city. "I'm fine, I just ate, thank you." Pen wanted to stop and smell the flowers, which were not the same as the enchanted ones in the royal garden. These ones smelled divine, whereas the ones at home had no scent per the Queen's orders, as she had, had terrible allergies. Levi enjoyed stopping to sniff them, finding that each one had a unique flavor to it. "Have you never smelled flowers before?" Lumier asked curiously, to which Levi stiffened. "I have, just not ones quite like these." She tucked a strand of hair shyly behind her ear.
"What do you mean?" Yuu inquired, "living in a castle, you'd think you had the best flowers to smell." His eyes twinkled, clearly amused by the Princess's antics. "Well, our flowers had no scent. We had a spectacular garden, but none of it smelled quite like this." Pen had bought a daisy to pin to her cloak. "I love this one," she decided, her gentle nature showing. "Your familiar is very different from the kind we know," they had picked up walking once more. "What do you mean?" Levi wondered aloud, wanting to know how Pen was different. "Well, Zinnia's familiar was quite fierce." Lumier recalled, "She was one of the Seven Generals of Hell. Blithe was her name," Pen stopped in her tracks. "You know a witch whose familiar is Blithe?!" The demon asked incredulously.
"Is she special?" Levi wanted to know, feeling left out of the circle. "She's only one of the coolest demons ever!" Pen's eyes sparkled, "fierce in combat, but cool and mysterious, and a hard partier." Yuu laughed, "That doesn't sound like Blithe at all!" He shook his head, "she mostly just worries about Zinnia and dotes on her, Zinnia's had a hard life though, so I think Blithe worries about her." A hard life? Levi tilted her head to the side curiously as they reached the bustling square. "You speak highly of her. She must have been a very interesting witch," Lumier's eyes suddenly alit with a certain fire to them. Of course, Levi did not know that Lumier was part of the Zinnia Evernight fan club. "She's only the best and coolest witch of our generation!" Yuu slapped a hand over Lumier's mouth. "Sorry, this one is a bit barking."
"No, I want to hear more." Levi laughed, the sound like the tinkle of bells. "I do too! I want to know who could possibly tame the seventh general!" Yuu rolled his eyes at Pen's exuberance. "She's not some figure up on a pedestal. In fact, she would hate it if she knew we were talking about her like this. Okay, it looks like we're here," they stopped in front of a clothing shop. "I'll take you two inside, Yuu, wait out here and do a perimeter check." Lumier took Levi by the crook of her elbow and led her into the shop. It was spacious within, lined with rows of robes of all colors and sizes. "Wow, I've never been to such a big clothing shop before!"
~~~

Zinnia did not wait long, she sipped on her tea, Blithe standing behind her, as she did not trust this place and did not want to sit. By the time she had finished her cup, the Queen had arrived. Yulissa Anemone, in her seemingly regal might, strode in, her familiar beside her. Azure pounced almost instantly, waving and declaring that she hoped that Zinnia could call this place home. No, Magnolia could never be her home. She could never live in the very same city that had taken everything from her. The cuffs beneath her sleeves itched as a reminder. "How do you think I am? Truly?" Zinnia asked, "I am sure you are already well aware." She was never one for formalities and never one to shy away from a challenge. Yulissa, after all, had aided in ripping away everything from her.

She had stolen her home, her friends, her beloved, and believed she could act as though this were a meeting between those with amicable relations. "As much as I appreciate the offer, I will have to turn you down." She sniffed, turning up her nose at the idea. "I do not wish to become another piece of your ensamble in enslavement." Zinnia rose from her seat, "If that is all you have called me here for then I will be leaving." No doubt this was why Yue had not told her what this meeting was about. She had simply told Zinnia to come here and to dress nicely. "Zinnia," Blithe said quietly, "just listen." She placed a hand on Zinnia's shoulder, forcing her to sit back down. Yulissa claimed they had ingredients here that she could find no where else and finer quality, which Zinnia doubted.

Her hands balled into fists. She did not want to work for this tyrant, but she also did not want to return home, where her girlfriend, if Zinnia could even still call her that, slaughtered all of the fae and forced her to listen. She did not want to go back to that house, with a baby everyone expected her to raise that was not her own, with a familiar who could do nothing to help. Zinnia did not want to go back to this life where she felt trapped and oppressed by the very person she loved more than anything else in the world. She listened as Yulissa finished and slid a schedule across the table. She could choose whichever three days she wanted to come in, she could choose whichever three days she wanted to escape from her horrible life.

She could use those three days a week to find a cure for Yue.

"Fine, seeing as I have no other choice." Zinnia took the schedule, folding it neatly and placing it in her pocket. She checked the date on the wall, blinking when she realized what day it was. It was still snowing in Constantina and yet, it was already May. May 13th, Zinnia's birthday. "I suppose I am forced to accept," she rose, the fatigue of the past few months almost instantly beginning to sway dangerously. "Zinnia!" Was the last thing she heard as Blithe reached out to catch her, the witch collapsing.

Just as Zinnia Evernight accepted the job, she collapsed into a heap. Blithe was in a right panic now and Yulissa was alarmed as well. "Azure, go get Silas." Azure nodded. "Wait, let me do something first!" She gave Zinnia a lick on the cheek and then nodded again, tail stiff and stressed. The cat did not like seeing her friends like this. "She's diagnosing her right now." Yulissa told Blithe so she wouldn't think Azure was up to anything malicious. "So she can tell Silas what's going on." Once Azure was satisfied with the info she licked off of Zinnia's mana she worriedly went bounding off to go and find him. He was a combat medic, so maybe he would be good at this too. Yulissa hid her exhaustion as she raised her wand to help Zinnia into a more comfortable position, laying down carefully on a couch so her head would not be on the hard marble floor.

Yulissa respected Zinnia in a lot of ways, but she understood the aggression, the hatred. She accepted that - there were many who hated her and wanted her dead now. But only those in her inner circle knew what she was doing and why. This was necessary - Magnolia was being ruined from the inside out. Didn't anyone see that? Even now the people in power are trying to send the Assault Unit to go and subjugate Var Nayya, a peaceful and beautiful little pocket dimension. By killing off the violent insurgents, maybe Magnolians would realize that stealing the children from other worlds was not the way to fix your problems. At least, that was what she hoped but so far it wasn't working. That was why she drafted the Patriots, whom the public already loved.

She was, naturally, going to try and veto the Councilors decision to subjugate Var Nayya, but the only Councilor that agreed to her on that matter was Xavi Wreckum, who despite his family, was still young and didn't have the respect and experience the others had earned over the years. The final decision was tomorrow and Yulissa was going to barge in and interrupt the meeting. "Okay, we're here. I think I know what's wrong, but let's move her to a bed first." After moving Zinnia to a proper room in the medical section of the Palace, he noticed the magical cuffs on her wrists and ankles. Silas easily dispelled them. "Those sure aren't helping. The Official Potion Maker shouldn't have these." He shook his head, pouring a gold potion down Zinnia's throat to stabilize her mana for the time being.

"Please be okay." Azure sobbed, crying at Zinnia's bedside while Silas got to work. "I just wanted to be friends!" Yulissa wished she had the option to make friends too, but someone in her position did not have that luxury. She was evil - and that was all anyone would care about.

-----

"It'll be okay, Master." Rain said, patting Yue on the head. They were in Zinnia's home as toddler Wing was made to try and read a basic spell book. She was young but was already learning how to read at this young age. "Zinnia will cure you. You still believe in her, don't you?" Yue wept, she didn't know how to stop. "But even so... it doesn't change what I've done." She never wanted to be evil, to hurt anyone. Why did things have to turn out this way? Why hadn't Blithe killed her at first sight in the very beginning? "I killed so many people. I made Zinnia cry." She was worthless, all she did was hurt everyone she cared about. She would never accomplish anything. Even should Zinnia forgive her, Yue would never forgive herself.

Rain suddenly had an idea. She knew it wouldn't solve things for now, but in the long run it would help. "You know? Today is Zinnia's birthday? Do you know what that means?" Yue flinched, trying to figure out what Rain could be talking about. "You have to give her a present!" A present? Okay, but what kind of present would Zinnia want? Would anything help? No doubt Zinnia and Blithe both hated her at this point for all of the awful things she's done. "No, it's really simple, Master." Rain smiled but it was sad inside. "You have to set her free. Let her go. Let her live her happy life wherever she pleases... and then you won't have to kill anymore."

"Would that... would that make her happy?"

Rain nodded. "Yes. It'll be hard, but it's what's best for everyone." She gave her blind Master a hug because Yue could not see as long as Rain was not her eyes. Her real eyes were long gone now. "Zinnia will be free to live the life she wants. You won't have to add any more pain to your life. This love isn't helping any of you now. You have to give it up." The mist demon did not like this decision, but she didn't want to see her family in pain anymore.

"Then..." Yue sobbed just thinking about it. "Okay. I'll tell her she's free. Then I'll disappear and she'll never have to see me again."

Then Wing would not have to become a time traveling murderer.

Then Yue wouldn't have Zinnia enslaved for ten more years to come.

Then everything would be better.

It could all finally end.

Yue cast the spell, releasing Zinnia from all her bonds. The black chains disappeared, the cage was gone, the house was restored to it's former state, six months ago. She cast another spell, inviting the fae folk back home. "Let's go Rain." Yue said. They would leave Constantina behind - once the fae folk realized it was safe to return, they would. They would go back. "We'll leave forever." Her final message was written in pink on a card.

Happy Birthday, Zinnia.

Goodbye.

You're free now.

❝I want to live, not just survive.❞

|| Found Tonight || Dear Hamilton ||

Lumier dropped the hanger she was holding, her hands suddenly beginning to shake. "What is it? What's wrong?" Levi asked, guiding Lumier over to a seat to rest. "Something terrible has just happened, but I don't know what. I can sense it in my bones, something is wrong." Levi looked around in alarm, "Is it Darris? Is he alright?" Lumier nodded, she had seen him last night after the show. It was the first time the two had been together since they had been separated. "Darris is fine, no... it's someone else," she trembled. "Something horrible has just taken place. I- I don't know what it is though." Levi looked around, but they seemed to be drawing no attention to themselves. "Accio bottle," a water bottle whisked into her hand. "Here, drink, you're probably dehydrated."

Yuu entered the store and frowned. "What's wrong?" He asked, seeing the two huddled beside a chair while Pen sorted out the pile of clothing. "Something is wrong... It's Zinnia and Yue, I can sense it." Yuu looked at her oddly, "Lumier, they're thousands of miles away. We can't just drop everything and go to them, as much as I would like to." Levi looked between them, "How about tonight?" She asked, seeing as to how she had told them she would take them. "Really?" Lumier looked up, clapping Levi's hands together underneath her own. Levi nodded, "I think we should do it. You want to help this friend of yours, don't you?" Pen bound over, suddenly eager. "I'm coming too of course," not eager so much as nervous. "You can't leave without me," Levi smiled at her familiar. "I'm not going anywhere without you."

It was settled then, the four of them would go to Constantina after curfew to rescue Yuu and Lumier's friends. The four of them returned to the Patriot House, Levi with a couple new sets of robes, and Pen carrying the bundle of flowers she had purchased. They stopped for lunch at a little cafe that served the most wonderful honey butter ice cream that Levi had ever eaten. "I love everything about this ward," Levi decided. Magnolia was divided into several wards, each contributing something to the city. The residential ward had several small businesses, all of which had their owners living on the second floor. The cafe was across from the flower shop and smelled wonderful.

By the time they reached the Patriot House once more, it was nearly dinner time. They had, had a grand old day, shopping and touring this part of the city. Levi went to put her new belongings in her closet, as well as look through her things to see what would be appropriate for a rescue mission. "Dinner!" Endro called, it was his turn to cook. Levi had asked them to teach her, but they seemed hesitant to teach the future Queen domestic skills like cooking and cleaning. No matter, tomorrow Adelyn was cooking and Levi knew that she could nudge her towards relenting. "Pen, dinner time." Her familiar looked up from the windowsill and shook her head. "I'm gonna stay up here for now, I want to get ready in case we have to fight something." She said, clearly concerned.

~~~~
Zinnia awoke an hour or so later. Blithe was sitting on a chair beside the bed, reading a book and snacking on biscuits. Zinnia trembled as she sat up, dizzy. "Hey, don't do that so quickly." Blithe warned, her mouth full of cookie crumbs. She eased Zinnia back down, the witch looking around. Her throat tasted like honey and her head no longer throbbed so badly. "We have to return home," Zinnia attempted to sit up again. "Are you sure? You should rest," but Zinnia only shook her head. "I cannot rest, not here." She did not feel safe here, in this place where she knew things were not always as they seemed. "Azure is really worried about you," Blithe tried, not wanting her master to strain herself. She had been using her blood for the potions for Yue, the Devil Snare, after all, needed blood to blossom.
"We shall leave them a note," Zinnia swung her legs over the side of the bed, realizing that her wrists and ankles no longer had the magical cuffs. There were no black chains either. "Blithe, we must go back now." Yue, something was wrong with Yue. "Now," Zinnia rose, Blithe reaching over to hold her steady. "There is no time for a note, they will understand, I'm sure." Zinnia could feel her magic, all of it. It had come back to her at last, mana surging through her veins. She needed to use it, "Apparate!" They disappeared without a trace, reappearing in Zinnia's darkened home. "Lumos," the lights turned on, the house empty. There was no longer an oppressive air about it, it was restored to its previous state. "This isn't right," Zinnia said immediately. There was crying coming from Wing's room. "I'll attend to her," Blithe spoke, branching off.
"Yue!" Zinnia called, her inflection rising a note. Not in panic, not yet. There was no answer. "Yue?" Zinnia tried again, searching the house. Why wasn't she here? "Yue!" Zinnia ran outside, the snow biting into her skin as she passed the green house and circled the property. "Zinnia!" Blithe yelled from inside, the witch running back into her home. "What is it?" She asked as Blithe nervously shifted, holding out a note. Zinnia took it, her hands trembling as she unfolded it slowly.
She read it once, twice, three times. She felt her heart thump painfully, her chest becoming constricted and painful. "No," the note fluttered towards the ground as though it were a butterfly that had lost its wings. "She's left me." Blithe picked up the note and placed Wing down, who crawled towards a fallen toy. "What do you mean left?" Blithe read the note, her hands crumpling around the paper. "Why would she do this?" Blithe asked. Zinnia sank to her knees, the pain in her chest growing worse. "No," she whispered. "This isn't right. She can't leave.... we were... were were supposed to find happiness... together." Tears welled up in her eyes, blurring her vision. "What happened to forever?" Zinnia looked at the ring on her finger, "what happened to us?"
Blithe knelt down to gather Zinnia in her arms, rocking her back and forth. "It'll be okay," she whispered, stroking Zinnia's hair. As unhappy as she had been, as scared, and confused as she had felt; Zinnia had loved her. "I'll be-" Zinnia looked up, her eyes widening. "Blithe?" She asked, frantic, panicked. "Blithe!" Zinnia rose, but her familiar was no longer by her side. "No, no... this cannot be happening." In the corner, Wing had begun to cry, but Zinnia could not hear her over the sound of her heart. She lay there, in a crumpled heap, her limbs feeling too heavy to move.
She lay there, her heart in pieces, her body too heavy to move. So Zinnia clawed, her nails bloody and bleeding by the time she reached the potion room. She stood on shaking legs and uncapped every phial she could find. It was stupid, it was wreckless, she drank them all, she didn't care. Her insides burned, numbing the pain she felt in her heart. Her chest constricted, but her heart no longer hurt. Her limbs seized as she fell, the glass shattering, the baby crying.
Crying.
She was always crying.
And then a voice.
But it was not Blithe, no. It was not Yue or Protea or any of the people Zinnia had ever loved.
"Over here!" It was someone she had met only a handful of times. "Quickly! She doesn't look so good!" Zinnia's eyes rolled up into the back of her head, she could taste blood in her mouth. "Did she drink every one?!" A voice yelled, it was shrill and panicked. Lumier, Zinnia would know that voice anywhere. "Shit, out of the way!" Yuu barked, his slight growl recognizable anywhere. They cast one spell after the other, rolling Zinnia onto her side and forcing her to vomit, forcing every potion out of her body as she shook and cried and screamed. She was hardly cognizent by the end of the it, the world slurred and slow from the amount of spells she had been hit by.
"I think Yue must have forced her to drink them," Yuu hypothesized as he lifted up the only phial she hadn't drunk. It glowed gold, shining with hope. The distilled potion for Yue's illness. He pocketed it, knowing she would want it. "Where's Blithe?" Pen asked eagerly, looking around. "I don't know," Lumier replied, holding baby Wing. "I don't sense her." Levi had gone upstairs to pack Zinnia's things. "I can't find her wand," she said, coming back downstairs.
"Zinnia doesn't use a wand," Yuu replied as he wrapped Zinnia in a warm cloak. It was blustering outside, Constantina was a ghost town. Levi gasped, "She's a no mage?" Lumier looked at Levi strangely, "No, Zinnia just doesn't need one to cast magic."
Yuu lifted her, a note falling out of Zinnia's pocket. Levi reached down to unfold it, gasping. "This is-" Yuu took it, his eyes widening. "Shit, we'll have to bring her to the castle. Queen Yulissa well send people if Zinnia is missing."
"But she's your friend," Levi begged them, knowing that Zinnia could help them. "And she'll be our friend no matter where she is."
Returning Zinnia to the bed in the palace she had escaped from, with a bag of her belongings, a baby that was not her own, and a note explaining everything (sans names of course); the three Patriots fled underneath the cover of darkness as the horizon slowly became alight with a new day.
Zinnia was asleep but Azure did not want to just leave her there. She was not sure what to really do. "Maybe you could leave a message for her for when she wakes up?" Yulissa rubbed at her arm, it was in pain for some reason. Was it relating to the curses she had tried to make before, or was it something to do with her Pangolin Disease? "I could do that." Azure's face was full of empathy and pain looking at her. "But she just lost the love of her life. Would a simple note even work?" The cat's tail was slumped on the ground, she was mewling pitifully at this predicament. "You're a bit too nice." Yulissa admitted with a frown. "But Zinnia's an important person, so I'll allow it this time. Stay at her bedside today. I'll be fine."
Azure was surprised at that decision. "I can stay? B-but what about you, Yule? You're more delicate than anyone knows!" Only Azure knew just how far the curse damage went. Not even Sonya or Silas were privy to that information. "Sonya and Silas can protect me if anything goes wrong." She did not expect Sigfried or Shiho to try anything again for the time being. With Shiho injured, the terrorist duo was likely going to be taking a break for now. "O-okay. I'll stay here with Zinnia." Baby Wing was sleeping in her crib, having cried her eyes out already. Zinnia was the only one she had in the world now - it would be cruel to separate her from the child. Did Zinnia even want to care for her? That would be Zinnia's decision in the end. If she chose not to, different arrangements would be made for the child.
"Can you tell me about Var Nayya?" Azure knew about it but she didn't know much. All she knew was that she did not want Magnolia to go and subjugate it. Just because it didn't want to join the Legion didn't mean it deserved to be crushed like Arnor and Constantina and countless other places were. "It's a small place, but it's full of pride." Yulissa spoke a little fondly. "The people there are quaint. They mingle with the fae folk even more than Constantina did. The fae folk and the mages are family in Var Nayya." While they lacked the civilized aspect Magnolia did, they were much more at peace with the wild and with the untamed. "Zinnia would like to visit then." Azure's voice was quiet. "That seems like her." They had files, and Zinnia's file mentioned how she lived outside of Constantina in the woods, surrounded by the fae. "It could remind her of home."
But Zinnia would not get to visit it if the Council made the decision to take it over. "As Queen I'm not really given the authority to veto the Council." While she had lots of power, it wasn't ultimate. There were things only the Council could decide on. "I'm sure Xavi's trying his hardest to stop it. You should barge in and change their minds!" Yulissa nodded grimly. "That's the plan, of course." She didn't want anymore tragedy if she could help it. "Oh, and let Blithe free. She has the right to be with her Master." Blithe was in a different room, restrained so she couldn't cause any trouble. "Okay. I'll put her here with Zinnia." Azure's tail bobbed happily. "I'm sure they want to be with each other." Yulissa nodded. "Now, I have to go. There's a meeting to disrupt."
What did one do when confronted with a problem? This one was rather big. They sat in Levi's room, the others having already left to fulfill their daily duties around Magnolia. Suzuya had announced at breakfast that they would be holding a meeting regarding their first steps soon, but for now, they waited. Gathered in Levi's room, the Princess on the windowsill, with Pen pacing and Lumier leaning against the wall, while Yuu locked the door; there was much to discuss. "I can't believe Yue would do that to Zinnia," she whispered, still shivering. "I thought... I thought she loved her," Lumier was clearly torn up about this. As President of the Zinnia Evernight fan club, it had made her sob to see her idol in such a state. "Why would she make her drink all of those potions?"
"Maybe it was an accident?" Levi wanted to believe. "No, more than likely this was Yue's idea of stopping Zinnia's suffering." Yuu at last spoke from the corner. "What do we do now? Didn't we need her on our side?" They had found her with a note of summons from the Queen, a schedule to begin working at the palace. "You said she's strong, if she's on Yulissa's side, won't that give her another advantage?" Levi asked worriedly. "She is strong, but something tells me she isn't doing this of her own volition." Yuu drummed a finger against the wall in thought. "What if we kidnapped her?" Lumier suggested suddenly. Levi jumped off of the bed, her cheeks turning red. "We can't do that, we're the good guys!"
"But-" Pen started, in Yuu's defense. "If we kidnap her from the bad guys, aren't we rescuing her?" Her familiar had a point. Levi squirmed, sitting back down and looking at her lap. "I guess... that's true," Levi relented at last. "So, we should ask Suzuya, right?" Lumier nodded. "Yeah, we'll asl her and she'll probably want more information. I don't think she's met Zinnia before," the witch fidgeted with her wand, it seemed to be a nervous habit of her's. "And she can definitely help us win against Yulissa?" Levi needed to make certain that no one hurt her sister. She didn't want to kill her, just dethrone and possibly arrest her. "Last I remember, she hates Althea and she probably hates Yulissa too, for hurting Constantina."
"What do we do about Yue?" Levi brought up. "If she's really an evil witch, shouldn't we be on the look out for her? Won't she come back for Zinnia?" Lumier and Yuu shared a glance. "We'll kill her," they spoke in unison. "If she's really out to hurt any of us, we have to make sure she's put down." Yuu hated having to say it, but he knew it was true. He had, had to kill his sister, he was determined to be strong enough in order to put Yue out of her misery. No doubt she did not want to become evil, but would simply allow it to happen. "Can we defeat her, when the time comes?" Levi asked worriedly and Yuu nodded. "I think we can do it," his hands balled into fists, it was clear he was just as upset about all of this as Lumier was.
Zinnia did not awaken until that evening. She felt strange, watching the concoction of the congolmeration of all the potions she had drank drip out of a hose in her nose. She was dizzy too and her chest felt strangely empty. Was this what it meant to lose the one you loved most? She held her hand above her face, her vision doubling. There were no tears though, Zinnia had sobbed them all away. The ring on her finger glinted in the light of evening that filtered in through the window, the curtains wafting as a gentle breeze blew through the room. Gone were everyone and everything she had ever loved. Where had Blithe gone? Why had she disappeared? Zinnia did not know. In the basinet, baby Wing began to stir. Zinnia had no energy for the child; she did not want it either. Wing had been thrust upon her without her permission.
She needed a home, a loving one. One where her parents would hug her and reassure her with how great she was. One where they would train her to be the bright young witch she would become. She did not need Zinnia in her life, to scold her, to push her away. The witch needed what Zinnia had never had; parents. Zinnia moved to remove the ring from her finger, the promise that Yue had made to her, but found that she could not. The ring was not stuck, but somehow, she could not bring herself to take off the false vow Yue had made to her. Her fingers curled and she held her closed fist against her chest, feeling her heart beat beneath her fingertips. Yes, she was still alive, it was still beating.
Zinnia turned her head to the side, finding that Azure was beside her, asleep. Slowly, the witch sat up, her head spinning. She swung her legs over the side of the bed and went to stand on the windowsill. In Constantina, it was still winter; but here, it was spring. Yesterday, her birthday had come and gone; possibly the worst one yet. There had been no cake or party and the only one who had wished her a good day was the very same girl who broke her heart. "Sixteen," it was funny. She felt no older, but somehow, the burden on her shoulders had only grown heavier. It oppressed her, weighing her down. Had her fate changed? Zinnia wondered. Or would she still become a tool in the destruction of the magical world?
❝Stand proud, for Magnolia's will lies before you. ❞
Sitting at the round table lit with windows made of stained glass, one for each of the previous Queens who ruled Magnolia, the Council sat in their meeting. The Head Councilor, and the one with most experience, sat at the head of the table. His name was Fingolf Riven, the Councilor of Finance. He owned many businesses and was the wealthiest man in all of Magnolia. "Var Nayya refused to acknowledge our authority." He said in a deep baritone, crossing his fingers with his elbows on the table. "Naturally, we can get a lot of market value from taking their people as punishment. Our economy will boom after the loss of many of the workers in the Hephaestus Ward." Xavi winced, wondering how he was supposed to argue against this. "It's not right. Var Nayya is beautiful - it shouldn't be stained in war." He said loudly. It was part of his duty to try and stop this. He wasn't able to save Constantina, but maybe he can save Var Nayya.
A cool female voice silenced him with a little grin. "If we want Magnolia to remain the strongest realm in the Legion of Magic, capturing Var Nayya can only benefit us." Relda Ina was her name and she was the Councilor of Research. She was the head of Mangolia's science team and she had already recruited a new assistant, a certain demon named Orie Eldriss who seemed to be extremely intelligent. She was going to put Orie to work, and Magnolia's technological center would bloom. "With magic and machines, we can improve the lives of everyone in our Wards." While that sounded nice and all, Xavi still couldn't budge. "But what about the victims? What about the tax cost of burying the bodies of their adults?"
"That's not really your job to worry about." Fingolf's tone was dismissive. "You're too young to understand." No one here understood anything that Xavi was trying to say. All they cared was advancing their own interests. Was this what Yulissa meant when she said Magnolia was rotting from the inside? "Focus on making decisions to benefit Magnolia's architecture." Relda said in a mocking sneer. "The new labor may have some aspiring builders for you to hire. That's what your father would have done." Before Xavi's father died during the battle of Constantina, he was very much in favor of taking over other realms. Xavi disagreed and it was his job to help bring about a brighter future for Magnolia.
The Councilor of Education, Greil Grace, was quiet. He was Adelyn's father and he helped manage the different schools and universities dispersed throughout the different Wards. "Be careful of what you say, Xavi." He warned in a grave tone. But before he could say anything else, the door burst open. Queen Yulissa was panting but she had arrived. "Everyone stand to my right. The Queen is here to intervene." They weren't allowed to know that it was because of her deafness. "As Queen, I'm allowed to have my say. You are not to take over Var Nayya. I oppose this decision." Her eyes burned amber, but it was clear she was over exerting herself.
Fingolf grinned. "Okay." He said with a shrug. "But based on the 132nd Law, the Council has no obligation to agree. The Council has the autonomy to make it's own decisions, regardless of what the Queen says." The other Councilors save Xavi agreed and the hope Xavi had in his eyes for his enemy, Yulissa, faded out. "We had our majority vote. We will have the Assault Unit march to Var Nayya once they are ready to move out." That meant it would be a month at most, and a week in the worst case scenario. That was not enough time for Yulissa to think of a way to stop it. "U-Unacceptable." Yulissa said quickly. "I will delay this. I must have the Assault Unit at hand, at least until I have Sigfried Denne's head. If they go to war, who will perform the cleanses to keep Magnolia safe?" They weren't convinced, but they didn't have a way to fight back against that. Because of Magnolia's State of Emergency, Yulissa had exclusive command over all branches of the Military until the emergency was over.
Xavi was going to have to report all of this to the Patriots later.
Azure sniffled as she awoke, looking up to see Zinnia awake and still looking miserable. She rubbed at her eyes and then decided to give Zinnia a lick on the cheek. "Misery. Heartache. That's what your mana is telling me." Azure's ears twitched unhappily. "Is there anything I can do to help?" Her Master, Yulissa, gave her orders to take care of Zinnia for now. Oh, right, she had something to tell Zinnia! "The Third Impact is going on, Zinnia! So Blithe was summoned to Queen Kitra's side for now..." She shuffled awkwardly. "I'm sure she wants to come back soon. Maybe once all the humans are wiped out that will be possible!" She gave Zinnia a smile, wiggling her ears.
"Being stuck inside isn't going to do you any good. What say we go on an adventure? Maybe we can invite your friends?" Azure just wanted her friend to stop being so sad. "I heard of a great place called Var Nayya. It's full of fae folk that don't really live in Constantina!" She curled up next to Zinnia, pretending to be a very comfy pillow. For your information, her ears were approximately 30% fluffier than most pillows, and that couldn't be beat! "We can invite some of your Constantinan friends to come too!" She grinned toothily, trying to nudge some happiness into Zinnia. "We can plan the trip at that new cafe! I think it's called Little Cup? It just opened up yesterday, but the reviews are fantastic." Would Zinnia agree? Would it make her stop being so sad?
