Time of Arrival

Time of Arrival

In space, there is a lot to worry about; you can be hit by an asteroid, sucked into a black hole, etc. There's a lot of reasons for death to occur, and just for the fun of it, this RP is going to add 'eaten by zombies' to that list.

Welcome to the Aibell. For some it is home, for others it is a getaway. named after its founder Dr. Berthold Aibell, was found 76 years ago in the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy, and has since been modified to contain human life. To this day we are still not sure when or why it was made, but still grateful that it was.

The Aibell, found drifting in the orbit of a Gas Giant, is an amazing 30km in length and 10 km in diameter. It is able to hold up to 10 million lives in total, with the current population being only at around 8 million. A true beauty, with hundreds of stores and condominiums, it has become a go-to retreat for the best companies and anyone who can afford to get there. (For more information regarding where everything is, check the places tab soon.)

Red alerts everywhere, sirens blaring, lights flashing on and off as the administrator requested the immediate evacuation of all personal in a monotonous voice. It all seemed to have started before you woke up, the noise seeming to have been unable to break the depth of your slumber. You weren’t exactly sure what was happening at first, with the noise from the confusion around you confusing the senses however when you first began to discover bodies you knew that something had gone horribly wrong and only now do the signs you were given begin to click. A few hours ago, a missile collided with the side of the ship, the breech opening up a large hole into the space around it, oxygen being drawn out of the open hole.

The security systems had activated in order to limit the damage to that sector however, the circuitry which ran the station had taken a large hit and now slowly the station’s core systems are slowly going offline. Due to this, those who had survived had immediately evacuated the ship, fleeing in the face of adversity and leaving you behind, lost and stranded. Approaching the surveillance room for your area you witness the area around the site, the cameras feeding through a blurred signal to a series of six large screens in the front of the room and, in doing so, you begin to notice corpses twitching and begin to move, their bodies coming forth from what should have been their death to walk. Their faces become twisted as their teeth become gnarled and orange from the slow trickle of fluid spewing from their gums, their eyes shining a strange yellow colour as they stare at the camera before scattering in all directions.

Immediately you flee, running in order to try and find somewhere safe, somewhere quiet to conceal yourself from the monstrosities until help arrives, praying that when it comes they are left with more than an empty corpse.

The Awoken

It was only a little while ago, as you were going down the halls to your room you kindly waved and said 'hello' to these people as you went on your way, and they went on theirs. Such friendly faces, that not even their worst enemy would have wished this upon them.

Now that friendly faces have turned into monstrosities, it's going to be hard to be restrain your emotions. Just how familiar their faces look, how distorted and blood crazed their eyes seem, you can tell they aren't really friendly. (Towards you, anyway. They seem to be pretty happy in their hordes.) It doesn't take that long for someone to turn into one and develop a taste for its own kind. In fact, the longer you breathe the air, the faster you rot. It's going to take a little while for you to find ways to avoid them, and having their only weakness being their head chopped off isn't going to be much help.

They're not all the same though. Not all of them are as loud with screams of agony, or walk and crawl as slow as the next. Keep your eyes out for the ones that are smarter, quicker. Keep your ears open and be sure to avoid the ones calling out for help, and especially the ones calling out for you. They are the ones who find ways to get to you through the air shafts and make you come out of your safe shelter. A few might even This is a test of survival, and the only reason why you're alive is because you're either immune or you are not as dumb as the next guy.

Toggle Rules

[1] Regular stuff: Don't be a Mary Sue or Gary Sue, don't control other characters, don't be a jerk OOC and all that jazz. Basic rules apply.

[2] Reservations last 24 hours, unless you PM me with a reason stating why you need to take longer than that.

[3] You can only reserve one character. Once that character is made/partly made, you can then reserve another character.

[4] The minimum of words on a post is 250 words. The first part of your password will be writing your reservation in your favorite color or what color you think this RP would be better colored as.

[5] Face claims can totally be changed! Just as long as they are the same age/around the same age as the character you reserved, they can be changed. Also, the extra characters can be any age. (PM/IM me about anything.)

[6] Commitment please! Don't make a character and leave. This is gonna be a complex RP with a dozen plot-twists and heart breaking moments, so if you're gonna leave for a while or good, at least let us know. Also, if you have concerns or suggestions, please PM/IM me or the lovely Truth!

[7] Follow the character sheet. You can make adjustments and all that, but just try to keep it regular. If you have trouble finding pics, PM me or just use any filler images that relate to your character. Oh, and also, the second part of your password is PMing ISpeakTheTruth and saying "So, where do I put the bodies?" Say anything about hiding bodies and that qualifies, and it can be in a message with other questions. Trust me, this is for scientific reasons.

"Keoki? Keoki!?"

Running. Running as fast as she can.
When was the last time she ran? When was the last time she bled? Crimson gushing down from her right arm, it was hard to keep pressure on it while she ran, but she couldn't stop. That madman was still following her. Was he a crazed cannibal of some sort? Schizophrenic, maybe? There really wasn't much time to think about it. One wrong move and he had her.

Alana continued looking back at the man. He was quick, determined. Her vision was somewhat fading, perhaps from the pure terror or that unresolved wound. Eventually Alana made it to the edge of the artificial park, ran through the door and it immediately shut behind her. As the sounds of him beating on the door rang, She quickly placed her left hand on the screen to the right of the door and typed in a code for it to lock. Not two heartbeats later now, she heard a woman's scream and turned around. She found a ladies neck being ripped into by another woman, chomping on her flesh and dripping blood everywhere. If Alana wasn't terrified then, she was now.

She made sure to leave that scene before the woman's screams died out. She continued walking and walking, continuously glancing around herself and bracing herself at every scream and every flicker of the lights. She had one thought on her mind: I need to get to a doctor. Her bite was covered by her sleeve and pressed down on— blood leaked out but at least it wasn't as bad as it was before. She followed along down a corridor with a few people who told her a medical bay was on the way they were going, and she could only hope there wouldn't be any more madmen there. Until then, she kept her sleeve covering her arm and tried desperately to get a signal back on her communicator.

Slice, slice, slice.

If Beth didn't know better, she'd start to believe that she was enjoying this. Enjoying killing people— no, they weren't people. They were things. She could admit to liking cutting off the heads of everything that ran towards her, trying to attack her. Self-defense, defending others.. that's what it was. But she wasn't killing people. She wasn't a murderer. She had to keep reassuring herself that, each time she made the mistake of looking them in the eyes.

Thing after thing. Why did they keep coming? People would have known by now that the blade of her katana was sharper than their skin could handle, and yet they keep coming anyway. Their fault, really. She wouldn't be running out of energy anytime soon.

Voices were still screaming in the distance. She felt an urge to help and followed that. Sheathing her blade and running past a few blondes and a redhead, she sprinted down the corridor and lunged forward at a thing going to town on a lady. She unsheathed and cut it down, turned around and kicked another in the neck.

Slice, slice, slice.

Looking around at the corpses, she was quite satisfied with the work. Proud of herself, even. Could anyone but herself be that quick? Sensei always said she had a gift. But even still, she was curious as to why were people suddenly turning into cannibalistic things. Did some event happen that made people.. angry? No. Normal people wouldn't have just gotten up and started attacking people. Were they sick in the head, then?

Never mind, she didn't have time to find answers. Innocent people were dying by the second, and she needed to stay focused to help them. She turned around and looked back down at the corpse she saved from becoming dinner. (For the present time, anyway.) A few breaths later and she was walking away again.

She wondered how her parents were holding up.

“Oi! Hal!”

Due to the hearing protection, the eighteen-year-old only caught a fraction of the superior calling him. He was focusing on moving a cargo box into position on the storage shelves.

“HAL!” That got through; Hal pulled off the hearing protection as he powered down the loaded.

“Come on, Hal, the shift’s over,” the older man who was too stout to fit in the exoskeleton called. “You don’t wanna be locked in here by mistake again.”

“Thanks, sir,” Hal replied, though he didn’t have the heart to tell his superior that he enjoyed the overnight isolation where he could sing to his heart’s content… and his ear’s torture. Hal parked the loader in an out-of-the-way corner of the storage facility and unhooked himself from the large mechanical apparatus.

In the break room, he was packing up an electric guitar he always practiced with during the work breaks. Everyone in that facility knew each other, so there was no thievery. Hal could leave his guitar smack-dab on the table and it wouldn’t be touched.

Just when he zipped up the case, the station emitted a creak zipping through every support beam, as if the station were hit hard by a sudden impact. What followed was a thunderous shift, and very temporary failure of the artificial gravity. It was enough to send Hal, two other workers, and everything not nailed down flying across the small break room.

The snarling of some distant, unknown creatures shook Hal awake. His hand felt sprained on account of its near-death-grip on the handle of his guitar case.

The lights still functioned, so Hal got a well-lit look at his two co-workers. Both hit the wall on their heads. Neither were moving. The only thing that was moving was some savage-looking man pounding against the door to the break room. Thank goodness the… person… didn’t have a lanyard to access the break room.

“Guys?” Hal called to the co-workers, “Guys, there’s a weird guy outside.”

No response. Hal was afraid of the worst. He was hesitant to touch either of them due to that fear.

“Come on guys, get up.”

Hal tapped one of them, then the other. Both started to smell.

“… Oh crap…” Hal began to shiver as he hugged the guitar case with his rather imposing build. The entire scene of a very masculine eighteen-year-old hugging a guitar case like a safety blanket would look downright comical. At least, it would… if not for the immediate threat of being trapped in a room with only sub-par lunch break leftovers, half a box of nutrient bars spilled around the place, two corpses and some insane thing right outside, pounding at the admittedly tough door.

On the plus side, the door wasn’t going to be breached any time soon. Hal had time to mentally steel himself for an eventual escape.

Corbyn unconsciously rolled over on the leather couch he was asleep on. His body slid off the edge of it landing on several brown glass bottles and knocking them over in a less than harmonious manner. In turn, ending up sprawled on the floor. He groaned loudly, and slowly opened his eyes to his surroundings. He found himself taking his time to gather his bearings and figure out where he was in the first place. He sat up using his left hand for support whilst he rubbed his eye with the bottom of his palm. When he had reached a comfortable position whilst sitting up, he spun his head around to come to a conclusion to where he was before mumbling to himself:

"Oh, yeah.."

He lifted himself off the floor, still slightly dazed from his recent awakening. He shuffled over to an electronic clock embedded into the wall nearby. Placing his hand on the wall just to the side of the clock for support he stared at it for a moment, and gathered his thoughts about what time it was. The sleeping habits he had created weren't too great. There were several GUI functions on the small monitor of the clock. He tapped on the one that read: 'Auto Lights'. The room Corbyn stood in became lit, almost instantly in fact, by several lights in the ceiling. The lights were just bright enough to illuminate the room almost fully. Turning his attention back to the nearby leather couch, he casually (or maybe lazily) grabbed his most recent articles of clothing on the floor nearest to the couch. Once again, casually slipped them on. Brushing some hair out of his face, he picked up one of the bottles that hadn't been knocked over by his slumber. He glanced to see if there was liquid in it first before knocking it back down his throat. How he had gotten the copious amounts of this particular drink he was not aware of anymore. After finishing the last gulp, he tossed the bottle aside creating a loud 'PEENK PONK CLANK' as it hit the wall, and fell to the floor.

Corbyn decided it was time that he acquired items that satiated his current appetite. As well as get a cup of coffee. Corbyn made his way over to the door. As he exited the living room the lights automatically flicked off, and the hall lights flicked on due to his presence; something quite normal for Corbyn to expect from his room. He looked into the mirror nearby on the wall and scrubbed his teeth with his finger. After his hygiene routine, he grabbed his jacket off of the wall-mounted coat hanger. Slipping it on, he checked the pockets of his jeans for his wallet, cell, and his other articles. He shrugged, opening his front door and stepped out into the corridor.

Upon leaving the living quarters assigned to him, Corbyn heard the click of the door lock behind him as it automatically triggered. He glanced around wondering what he was doin- Oh that's right. The elevators were off on the other side of the corridor, so that was his first destination to reach before anything else started to happen. He began to take his first step, but before it even reached the floor a senseless amount of shouting came from his left. He stopped in his tracks and glanced over in the particular direction. Several people were running for what seemed their lives, but Corbyn saw no reason for them to be in such a hurry. They couldn't possibly want a cup of coffee right now more than he did; so what were they running for? A middle-aged man bumped into him slightly, but merely displaced Corbyn and kept on running. Clearly, this was not going to stand as something that a bystander can commit without, in the least, an apology. Corbyn turned to face the man who continued to run in the opposite direction of whatever they were running from. He stared him down for a moment before giving up on saying anything.

Ah, fuck it.

He walked in the same direction as the running innocents, which was by the elevators. Corbyn had this slight slouch to his walk, maybe it was just more relaxed and laidback. This, not at all, went with the situation present down the hall. Whatever those people were running from was clearly a big deal, but it wasn't for Corbyn. He just wanted to get to the elevator in the most relaxin-

"What are you doing!?"

A man's voice rang out from in front of him. The same middle-aged man had turned around, staring at Corbyn like a wild animal. Was this guy crazy or something? What the hell was his problem? Before Corbyn could even comprehend what in the world this guy was talking about, his questions were answered. A fearful scream came from the group in front of Corbyn from a woman. He turned around calmly, but his ended up being a mistake on his part. I guess things don't always go your way. Upon spinning around, he was struck backwards by some kind of psychotic, cannibal, guy, thing. Corbyn fell on his rear-end so quickly he had no idea what had just hit him. The creature came charging, but Corbyn was ready this time. His boot came flying up to the jawline of the thing knocking it off balance and tumbling backwards. Corbyn stood up and shouted at it:

"I'm gettin' real tired of this rude shit! Y'know, it's okay once, but you're crossing a line that just got- UGH! What's wrong with your face!?"

He noticed the man-thing's deformed, grisly, face. It's teeth looked way too jagged to be normal, and there was something clearly wrong with this guy's attitude. His clothes were torn, his hair unkempt, and Corbyn thought he smelt a little. Not to mention he was basically foaming/drooling for some god awful reason.

"You know what.. You can keep your nastiness to yourself."

Corbyn turned around walking towards the elevator once again. The middle-aged man shouted at him to gain some ground on the damned thing, but Corbyn ignored his suggestion. He was really tired of everyone's nonsense. He just wanted to move on in his life. For what reason could this guy possibly want Corbyn to get away from the weird-looking guy? Maybe it was because that same thing had already gotten up and was charging at Corbyn again. Corbyn was more than prepared, he had meticulously calculated a plan to get this guy back for his insolence, and now was the time to execute it! A perfect plan! He whipped around just as the thing had reached him. He uppercutted him with such a force to break his top row of teeth and sending him reeling backwards onto his back. Yeah, that taught him.

He stared at him for a moment before deciding it had learned it's lesson. After all, it was dead. Corbyn was not aware of this at all, nor did he know that he could kill someone this way; probably just this one time out of luck. To him, this was just a plain knock-out. Also a large amount of dental bills. The group by the elevator stared at him as if he just did the most incredible thing they had ever seen. Corbyn didn't even give them a chance to say anything to him before he was in the elevator and already headed upward to the floor containing his favorite coffee shop.

“OKAY… okay… I can do this… I’m a rock star… This is practice for a crazy fan,” Harold hopped on the spot to get pumped up, “A crazy fan… Not killing… uhm… incapacitating… temporarily… so security could collect him and- oh who am I kidding? I need to kill that thing to escape…”

Hal stamped the metal floor in frustration. He has to kill that thing. It looked human, but at the same time not. It looked like an abomination. The last thing Hal wanted was for that ugliness to scar his beautiful rock star face.

“Okay, run through the plan once more,” he muttered, “Lanyard, door opens… then what…?”

Hal put down the guitar case and gripped at two legs of the knocked-over table. He hoisted it up and set it up tabletop against the door. Hal then picked up his guitar case and readied it for a strike like a battering ram. After much hesitation, Hal worked up the courage to plant the lanyard against the key-reader next to the door. As the information processed, Hal slipped the lanyard back in his pocket and gripped tightly onto the guitar case.

The door slid open, and the thing charged in, only for its gut to get caught against the edge of the table. As the thing’s torso and head leaned forward from the inertia, Hal held on tight to the guitar case as he swung it down with all his might.

He barely felt the hit. The sheer weight of the case and overall force applied turned the creature’s head into chunks that tore away from the torso. The rest of the body went completely limp over the edge of the table, while blood, brain, and bits of bone made a gruesome mess on the floor.

Hal began to hyperventilate, having never seen this kinda crap before. However, he knew he had no time to lose. With one strong arm, he tugged on the table to move it aside so he could escape. Thankfully, there appeared to be no one entering the area from the entrance on the opposite end of the cargo bay. There were figures passing by, but no one was entering- probably on account of the closed door. Harold could swear he could hear screaming from far away.

With no immediate stress, two dead co-workers and one dead thing, Hal had an opportunity to think of a plan so he wouldn’t join any of them any time soon. He saw the exoskeleton of the loader- which, when properly equipped, could be rated for air lock work. The particular loaded he was using was not equipped for it, but the modifications needed were in the warehouse. Plus, the exoskeleton itself would make a fine defence against more of those things.

Hal carefully stepped towards the loader, making sure to peek around corners of shelves to make sure nothing was around.

She held tightly to the bedroom door,
locked but budging. That— That monster, it already had her family.
Her baby brother and mother. Oh god, why did he do that to them?
Why was he going after her too?

She hid in her parents bedroom, which was the closest door available that could put her between the crazy man and herself. Closing and locking it, she stood as silent as the rest of the room, resting against the door. She almost thought to open it, until— Thump thump thump. Bloody fists hit the metal door with rage, over and over and over. The girl jumped away and went to hide under her parent's bed, a place that scared her not too long ago, but now seemed better than out in her home.

She held her breath better than her tears. Fear, standing so still against
the banging door was killing her-- she needed to fight or flight.

And then, it... it stopped? Was it gone? Was she safe?
But then she heard his voice.

".. Cecelia? Cecelia baby, are you in there?" Her father's voice pressed against the door nearly stopped her heart. Daddy was here, daddy was going to protect her. She clicked the lock and opened the door. Before she had any doubts that it was really him, before she knew that the monsters living in her nightmares were now crawling through her home,

the seven-year-old looked beyond the door, and did not see her father.

Alana couldn't see straight. If it wasn't for the bright colors on the blonde's jacket, she might have been lost by now. Not to say that the people she was following were lost. How was one to navigate through darkened halls without the usefulness of a Station Positioning System? Or, maybe they did know where they were going. Maybe she was just too worried on not finding a doctor. Maybe she should focus more on walking more than judging their steps.

More screams in the distance. You always heard screams, no matter where you were on the station. She couldn't help but to wonder if this part was just as bad as the rest.

How long ago did she last call her lover? Two, three weeks? It was since before their last fight, she had heard his voice. They were both angry at each other over a problem that was neither of the two's fault. She wanted so badly to make him understand that—

"What the hell are you thinking?" Alana blinked and glanced ahead at the small group. How long had she been lost in thought? "Screw the security, we need to get the hell out of here!" A female ordered, glancing at the men, then to Alana. They must have been arguing over where to go from there on. "I— ...I-I need to... get to a doctor.." Alana tried to remind them, but couldn't quite get her voice to be loud enough for them. The three ahead were too busy bickering on about finding family members or sticking behind men in shields. One of them wanted to hit a shopping center and get what they could. The other guy nearly slapped that idea out of him, before—

"Watch out!" Alana attempted, but it was too late. The man on the left was tackled down to the ground and had his guts hanging out before the rest could even react. As they tried to get the cannibal of a man off of their friend, three more came the shadows and had them down too. It all happened in about five blinks.

There was no hope for them, Alana knew. She did her best to run the direction they were heading, and didn't think to look back once. Heavy breathing, dodging, breathing faster than her heart could beat. She tripped over herself twice and probably looked like a drunk doing so, but if she was surviving, it was working.

"I have to find.. I have to call Yori.."

The attack had been sudden; I had waved off the little pocket of invisibility as a simple ion storm, but I should have known; electronic countermeasures, blocking the exterior scanners. I didn't know of the missile until it hit.

Yet, there was a curious lack of a warhead. An explosive one, at any rate, though atmospheric sensors were going crazy with some sort of unknown reading. Again, however, it was a simple handwave on my behalf, when I should have sterilized the entirety of the breached section as soon as all had settled. But I ha been foolish; I had given it time to enter the ventilation. And now it was spreading.

Infection. A biocontaminant never before seen, possibly a late-stage evolution of the nearly-extinct disease commonly known as "rabies." And from what I saw of the camera feeds, this new contaminant caused great, unrelenting violence; transmission vector unknown, presumed to be blood. Lockdown was almost immediate, but it was too late. It was already spreading, and it was spreading too fast to purge. I had no choice but to inform the command personnel, yet the station administrator and his aides were nowhere to be found. So, the next logical stage was launched: informing CentCom. Their response was quick and simple:

"Quarantine the station; let nothing leave it."

A simple enough directive, and one which I had seen little motivation in contesting. Of course, that point of view quickly reversed as soon as the power situation became apparent to me:

Critical connections had been severed and one of the main solar arrays was disabled. Slowly yet surely, I was losing power.

I am dying.

The elevator dinged as it reached its destination. The doors slid open and Corbyn stepped out of the elevator getting very tired of the music playing within it. This annoyance soon drifted away as he realized that his anticipation for the rich goodness in a plastic cup got even stronger. He was so close that he could almost taste the flavors. He glanced around the food court-like area that he was familiar with, and began making his way to his favorite coffee shop: 'Husky's Beans'. Now, it was not intentional by the owner for this coffee shop to sound absolutely ridiculous. In actuality, the name has been constantly misjudged by newcomers to this particular food center. The coffee shop itself is less popular than others, but it makes up for its name with drinks that are incredibly high-quality; perfect for its minor amount of customers. Corbyn enjoyed it mostly due to the fact that it wasn't as popular as the other shops. Not just in this food center, but many of the others as well. As he made his way to his cup of coffee, unbeknownst to him there was a lack of people ordering food, chatting, and sitting on the tables. All that could be heard was the semi-modern music being played from the speakers in the ceiling. Upon arriving at the counter of the shop this became apparent to him.

Corbyn couldn't help but ask out loud: "Hellooooo?"

He peered over the counter, and looked at the employee doorway just behind the counter.

"Hey, Husky! Husky you in there bud?"

He turned around in confusion scratching his head. He shrugged and took a few steps over to the nearest table, but ended up stumbling over an object on the floor and falling over. When he reached out to catch his fall, his hands slipped when they reached the floor. He collapsed onto his chin with a groan. He looked at his hands wondering what made him fail. On his hands was a crimson fluid he knew all too well. He scrambled to his feet out of fright, smearing more blood in the pool that was already present on the ground and in turn creating more smears. He looked at where he laid just before noticing a body, then another, and another as the count of bodies kept increasing as he noticed them. Corbyn started to panic. Their bodies, mutilated and massacred. Their necks were torn open and blood stained ripped clothes and flesh. Corbyn backed up into the counter, and gripped the edge. What the hell happened in this place?

As he viewed his surroundings in shock, he began to think he was crazy. None of this could be real, it couldn't be. He glanced around, looking at people's failed attempts to survive whatever horror came through this place. Was the whole station like this? Corbyn wanted to bring words out of his mouth, but he couldn't. He quickly began to gather his thoughts and his next plan, but before he could even come up with a plan he heard a plethora of footfalls coming from a corridor nearby. Corbyn turned his attention to this corridor noticing that a large group of people were coming towards him. He likely attracted their attention. Corbyn knew it was safe to assume that either these people were the ones to do the killing, or they were a group who would most likely believe that Corbyn had done the killings.

He needed to think fast.

The station was not dead. Everywhere, there was still movement, and movement is life, correct? And yet it was all so inhuman. Shambling, running, screaming, crawling... Blood spattered everywhere, as well as some other strange compounds.

Anarchy reigned. While some were methodical, cooperative, and peaceful, others were savages. This could not by any strretch apply just to the biocontaminants. The unafflicted looted, killed, stole. No one could stop them; the security officers were all busy fighting off the contaminants in a losing battle, and my own security drones were far too few and far between to stop the mass disorder. I had already taken the liberty of locking down and even depressurizing small rooms where anticitizens were looting, disposing of them, but it was not nearly enough, and I still had to be conservative about my power usage.

And yet, now, I saw the bands of survivor slowly diminishing, and the station slowly grew quieter. Less uninfected roaming about, and in smaller groups.

Perhaps something useful could be performed.

Emilie awoke from her slumber at, as routine, drowsily looked towards her clock. 1345! The realization of how late it was immediately snapped the girl out of her sleepy state. She rarely slept in.

"Not to mention I'm late for cram sch--" A feeling of relief and embarrassment washed over Emilie. There was no school today. The reason why she didn't hear the alarm was because there was no alarm she had set. Regardless, she still wanted to do the same things she did on a school day, in terms of getting ready. She showered and slipped on one of her favorite outfits she had received from her parents recently. A blue dress sweater and bike shorts with her favorite black slippers.

Think of mom and dad, where are they? The apartment was quiet. Normally, there would be either the sound of her parents talking or at least the television going on. As Emilie walked into the living room she saw a paper lying on the coffee table. The girl picked up the letter and started to read.

"We are sorry we had to leave on such short notice. We got a last minute job on another level of the Aibell. We shouldn't be gone too long so we went on ahead and left you alone. There's plenty of food in the fridge if you need it. We'll call you to keep you updated like usual. Love, Mom & Dad."

Emilie smiled. She had the apartment to herself! It wasn't that big of a deal but she could watch the big television and even play her video games on it. It was something she could only do when her parents were away and it was something she enjoyed. Emilie skipped to the fridge to get breakfast and eat while watching a show.

A loud bang on her apartment door made the child jump. She stood where she was frozen and listening for anything else. After a few seconds of no new activity Emilie began to move towards the door. As she started walking towards the door she thought she heard yells from the apartment next door.

Emilie's heart started to speed up a little. Her mind jumping to all sorts of bad scenarios. She looked through the peep hole in the door and saw nothing. Then she pressed her ear against the door and, once again, heard nothing. Emilie then pressed a button next to the door and it slid open. The girl poked her head out and quickly looked down both ways of the corridor. There seemed to be some doors open as well, which was unusual.

She then remembered her neighbors yells and looked towards their door. It was open as well. Emilie stepped out of her apartment and peaked inside the neighbor's.

"Hello? I heard yelling, is everything all right?" No answer. She stepped inside. Maybe they were hurt and couldn't move. There was a knocked over stand in the hallway leading to the bedrooms but other than that everything else seemed to be in place. Then there was a sound from the far room. It was the master bedroom since the apartment layout was the same as her own.

"I'm from next door. I didn't mean to intrude. I saw your door was open and thought I heard yell--" There were quick approaching footsteps that silenced Emilie immediately. Soon a man stepped into view. The look on his face as well as his blood stained clothes made the girl shrink back. The man stepped forward and seized Emilie's wrist and she screamed. Her scream was quickly cut off by a hand over her mouth.

"Shhh!" The man said while he knelt down. "Do you want to draw anymore of these things here? I'm not gonna hurt you and I'm gonna take take my hand away from your mouth now but only if you promise not to scream. You got that?" Emilie slowly nodded her head. "Good." The man removed his hand from the girl's mouth but kept a grip on her wrist.

"There's something bad going on. Why are you not with your parents?" He asked in a hushed voice.

"T-they're away on business. Said they'd be back." The man nodded his head.

"Then they're lucky. They probably got out of this sector before hell broke loose. Look here..."

"Emilie."

"Look here, Emilie. There are bad people all over this sector. There was one that broke into here. If you turn on the television or broadcast stations on the radios then you'll hear that there's a problem going on. We need to find someplace safe and hunker down. At least until the defense force shows up." Fast approaching footsteps kept the man from saying anymore. He pulled out something that resembled a self-defense stun gun from his back pocket and aimed towards the open door. Then a figured appeared in the doorway. It looked human but at the same time it didn't. It looked like a man mutating. His skin was a deathly color and his hair was stringy.

The man fire his gun without hesitation. A sharp beam hit the creature and it tensed up before falling to the floor. The man immediately went to the nearby kitchen and quickly grabbed a knife.

"Turn around, Emilie!" The girl quickly spun around and then heard a sickening sound and then she could hear dragging. The man had pulled the creature, out of the way, into the kitchen. Emilie felt a hand on her shoulder and she let out a squeak. She was turned around to face the man again.

"We gotta get moving. This place isn't safe. The door is broken and probably won't hold if multiple of these things show up." The man made for the door and upon stepping out was tackled to the floor by another monster. Emilie rushed out the door to find the two people struggling on the floor. The first creature was immediately joined by two others that joined in. Emilie picked up the stun gun that the man held and aimed it at the creatures. The man's screamed and then was suddenly cut off as his body stopped moving.

A small sound escaped the girl's mouth and one of the creatures turned its attention towards Emilie. It's stare was crazed and blood thirsty. She rushed to the door of her apartment and slammed on the button next to it as she ran inside. Immediately after it closed the monster was banging on it trying to force itself in. Each bang made Emilie flinch. She then ran to her room and closed the door before diving under the bed. She was trapped. She could only think about what would happen once the monsters forced their way inside. The thought made her cry.

From what Hal could tell, there was no living person throughout the rest of the warehouse- at least, none nearby enough to hassle him while he got suited up. Hal gripped tightly on both his guitar case and the card key needed to access the suit’s functions as he approached the suit proper. After loading up the guitar case and the recovered nutrient bars in the storage slot behind the seat, Hal hopped in and switched on the systems.

He checked the battery charge. 52%, a decent charge, if unexpected. Then again, there was not as much heavy lifting during the recent shift. Hal recalled that that much of a charge would grant him about seven hours of movement without using the loader arms.

The loader glided along the floor on small, sphere-like wheels. The humming, heavy-duty electromagnets near the base kept the loader from tilting when making hard turns, and also allowed the suit to remain attached to the station during exterior jobs. Hal directed the mech to the modification station, and activated the automated system. Pretty soon, the exoskeleton was covered in a space-grade material and sealed-up like an exo-suit.

There was a distant crash. Though the exo-suit muffled sound like a beast, Hal was still able to hear the world outside of the suit. It sounded like someone busted the door open somehow. Hal did not want to find out. He had to get to the safest place he knew: The isolation of space. With that safety, he’d be able to access one of the exterior terminals and communicate with the station AI. Hopefully it would have some kind of information.

As the exo-suit ran tests, the humming of the electromagnets seemed to attract the attention of whoever broke the door open. There were a few people carrying blunt objects, but they were paying attention to the unarmed people that looked as much of a mess as that first thing Hal encountered.

“Come on, damnit!” Hal cursed as the safety protocol during the exo-suit tests prevented his control. There were people getting killed out there, and he couldn’t do anything. Curse his timing! Two out of the three were tackled and being mauled. The last one was losing his lunch and his cool. Even from a distance, Hal could tell through the suit’s HUD that the poor guy was shaking.

Finally, the tests were passed, and Hal got control of the loader. Gliding along the floor, Hal lowered the arms to waist level. Hal soared past the last guy and rammed both loader arms through the two things. “Yes! Saved! Man, that was awesome!” Hal whooped as the things slipped off of the now-bloodied loader arms. “You okay, dude?” He called to the last survivor as he confirmed that the freaks were no longer moving.

Hal did not realise two things, however. The first was that the space-grade exo-suit limited clear communication from him to anyone through the short-wave radio, a channel exclusively used by loaders like his own, as well as other authorized equipment. The second was that the two killed survivors slowly rose up, despite having their necks chewed to pieces. Hal turned around just in time to see the two new freaks maul the last poor man.

“No… Goddamnit NO!” Hal pounded the arm rest. The two things rose up as they shifted their attention to the humming electromagnets. They stumbled in their approach while the third poor soul squirmed as he bled out. There was no saving that poor man, let alone the gratitude of the poor man. I'm supposed to be a hero…

Hal slapped himself. He had to focus; he needed to get outside and get in contact with the station AI. He needed to get to the safety of outer space so he could get his bearings.

Knowing he had to do it, he moved the exo-suit forward at full speed. He shoved right through the three of them. The bleeding out guy probably would have turned into one of the freaks like the other two just did.

He heard muffled sounds as more entered the warehouse. Hal turned to find more weird-looking savages. There were a lot of them. Hal doubted their bare hands would be able to do any damage to the exosuit, but he didn’t want to risk it. Hal directed the exo-suit to the airlock. He had to get out of here.

Once inside the air lock, Hal realised that he couldn’t actually activate the doors on his own, unless he was outside of the suit. As the savages started pouring in, Hal pulled the controls to the side, causing the loader to spin on the spot. The loader arms clipped at the things, but the sheer number of them caused the loader to stall. He was about to be swarmed after losing momentum when the doors automatically shut, and the air lock depressurized when the outer doors opened. The AI apparently automatically did this sort of thing.

As the outside sound faded and the freaks were launched out into space, Hal finally could hear nothing but himself… and he realised he was still hyperventilating. Normally, this amount of hyperventilation would cause him to pass out, but his synthetic lungs were strong.

“Come on, Hal,” he told himself encouragingly as he directed the exo-suit out of the airlock and onto the flat surface of the exterior, “I’m safe now… I’m safe now…” He repeated this to himself until the air lock door closed far behind him. By that time, he finally calmed down.

The survivors were, for the most part, bland and uninteresting, reacting just as expected. Here was a young girl, her parents lost in an entirely different part of the ship, and she all alone. Here was a young man, panicking at the location of a coffee shop filled with blood. To expend the energy to try and advise them all would be... wasteful. My resources were finite, after all.

Yet, one survivor did interest me. This was a young cargo worker by the name of Harold Carter. As with all other survivors, he had been under my synthetic gaze for some time now; in this time, he had employed a guitar as a weapon, secured himself into the technical exosuits available for his department, and then ejected himself onto the exterior of the Aibell to escape the biocontaminants.

Resourcefulness interested me, because resourcefulness could save me.

Thus, while he remained still inside his exosuit (having cameras implanted inside all the exosuits was a good choice), I took the liberty of contacting him via the radio module of the suit.

"Citizen Carter, Harold. I have taken notice of your plight, and it is the system's belief that a mutually beneficial agreement could be drafted and executed. It involves the survival of both of our physical forms. What you cannot do, I can. What I cannot do, you can. Your compliance will be appreciated."

In the absolute silence of space, the sudden synthetic voice of Paragon blaring on the suit radio caused Hal to flinch and nearly lose control. Thankfully, the electromagnets were easily strong enough to hold the suit against the station, or else he'd be floating out into the infinite blackness. Those suit designers thought of everything.

“Jesus man, you startled me!” Hal blurted as he stopped all motion to get his bearings. “I was actually about to try to contact you through an exterior terminal. I didn’t know you could directly contact the suits, man.”

Once he was good to go, he continued moving the suit to the nearest terminal. The terminal would be able to provide exterior routes all across the station. “I’m not a fan of the word “complying”, but I do love helping. In order for me to help, I need to know what’s going on, dude.

Hal reached the terminal and hooked the suit up to it so he could download whatever information Paragon would send him. “This all started after that impact, right? What exactly hit us?” Hal asked, “‘Cause if I can remove the source, that would go a long way to helping the station, I think.”

And helping... Oh hell, I hope mom's alright...

Challenging. Breathtaking. Her arms were growing tired from so much swinging, and she eventually just had to keep moving instead of trying to kill every harshly breathing thing that didn't put up a fight.

So she continued down the halls, speeding past busy bodies. Ultimately, she wanted to find her father. He was the only family currently living on The Aibell, and she knew he was her best chance. She knew he would be alive and alright, how else would he have kept his job for so long? But without the civilian communicators going, he was as good as gone. Or.. hold on..

Beth came to and made a sharp turn. She slammed her fist on an elevator summoner, and took a few seconds to run her hand through her hair. Once the doors opened, Beth paused. There was a man sobbing in the corner, mumbling to himself. He payed no attention to her, and after a few heartbeats she simply stepped in and pressed a number on the pad. The doors shut, and they were quickly off.

Not too long after in the awkward silence of a grown man crying, she felt the smooth decline of speed, and they halted. Beth placed her hand on the handle of her sword and mentally prepared herself. The doors for the elevator opened, and it seemed that the ones for the floor were too, but.. they just sort of.. stopped? Beth looked around for a few moments before pressing the same number again. The doors still didn't open. Great.

Beth looked down at the man, hoping he wasn't watching her before she attempted putting her head in the crack of the door. Her ears hurt after trying that. Beth pulled away and crossed her arms. Nope, not gonna fit. Even still though, it looked like there was a lot of debris on the other side. Beth tried pressing the button for the floor below, planning on taking the stairs up instead.

Echos. Echos of beasts, and they didn't sounds too far off. Even though she was only in the elevator for such a small time, it made a perfect escape from the outside station for a few moments. But now, it was just time to get back to work.

Two beasts, feeding on a man who had most of his flesh still in tact. A recent kill. Living this long, he might have had an energy bar on him or something. While they were still distracted, Beth gripped the hilt of her blade tightly and held it behind her shoulders. She made a swing, slicing off the head off-- Wait. Oh god, it got stuck in the spinal cord. She put her foot on the back of the beast and attempted pushing him off of it, but the other beast tried grabbing at her leg. She backed off with her hands both on the hilt. She eventually got to pull it out, but was now confronted with two ugly beasts.

She reached for the sheath hidden under her short dress and dodged to the left of the two. From behind, she kicked one down and slammed the blade of her knife into the head of the other. Letting go, she pressed her foot on the back of the one kicked down, wrapped both hands around the handle and thrust it down into it's head.

She caught up on her breathing for a few moments before pulling out the blade. Damn she was feeling tired, but if she was going to find her father, she-- She was quickly tackled to the ground by another beast, and she dropped her blade. She tried her best to hold it's arms away, the face trying desperately to make contact with hers. She grunted at it's strength against her thin frame, it's nails digging into her hands. She found the strength in her knees to lift the thing up and over her head. She got up as quick as it could, but already then it was coming at her. It threw it's arm at her and she grabbed it, moved to the side and swung the creature down using it's own inertia. She then moved to pick up her blade, and she finally put it out of it's misery.

She slumped down against the nearest wall. Where did that last one come from? She would have seen or heard it if it had come running down the hall-- No, it wouldn't have come that far. It was nearby. But then again, why wouldn't it have been eating with these guys?

After her small break, she got up and went to check the body of the half-eaten victim. She had gotten used to the smell of rotting corpses, but even still, it made her a bit nauseous. She leaned down picked his pockets, but there was nothing good enough to take. Not even a weapon. Where was his defense? He couldn't have survived this long without a knife or something, maybe even friends.

Friends. Family. It finally came to her; he must not have been alone. And with that jumpscare of a monster lingering around, they might still be here. She walked over to the beast with her knife in it's head, gripped the handle and ripped it out. She placed it back in it's sheath, and looked around again for anything else she was missing.

".. Hey, they're dead." She mused her voice around, turning her head, "Whoever's here can come out now."

Corybn has been in worse situations than this. But then again, he hasn't been in a situation where someone wanted to kill him, let alone a group. Corbyn didn't really have a plan, so he decided he'd go with his first thought. He hopped the counter, and got to work. Corbyn knew exactly what he wanted, and nothing was going to stop him from acquiring it.

He quickly began to make the drink in which he desired greatly at this moment. Corbyn could potentially work at this place if he wasn't so inclined to avoid work. He checked the grinder if it had grounds in it, which it did. He took the cup off of the expresso maker and filled it with grounds. After locking the cup into place he let it create expresso into a medium-sized plastic cup that was already placed underneath.

Corbyn whipped around to see what progress the murderers were making on his position. Oh, looks like they're- halfway.. "Oh shit! Oh shit!" Corbyn sped up his process, he snatched up the vanilla syrup and pumped in three pumps of the syrup. He tossed the bottle of syrup off to the side where it splattered all over the floor. Rapidly, he steamed up soymilk that he pulled from the fridge and got it to the perfect temperature. He poured in the steamed milk slowly whilst he panicked to himself. "Oh fuck me. Hurry up, hurry up." Why was coffee so important to him again? He sprinkled some cinnamon on top of the drink generously and lidded the cup.

He took a quick sip before he dashed away. He ran as fast as he could with a cup in his hand to the elevators, but when he reached them he heard a ding. He stopped and turned in his tracks as several deformed people came bursting from the elevators to chase Corbyn down. Corbyn was stopped again when he realized that there were other people from the larger group that had started running after him. He turned again, but this time headed over to the other set of elevators. He ran up to elevators and kicked the elevator summoner.

He bobbed impatiently, but heard no sign of an elevator coming up or down to him. Corbyn kicked the button again and yelled out: "What the fuck!?" The deformed were gaining on him leaving him no choice but to abandon the safety of the elevator and run over to a gazebo in the center of the food center. He managed to dodge an attack without spilling his drink. Corbyn stylishly hopped onto the railing of the gazebo and placed his cup on the lip of the roof. He jumped back and pulled himself upward just in time to avoid the charging group.

"Ahahah! Nothing stops me from getting my vanilla latte! Not even you douchers!" After taunting the group, Corbyn receded to the top of the gazebo where it was safer. He took a large gulp of his less-than manly drink of his but he was satisfied with his success. There was one problem, the people below him were not attempting to climb up to capture him. Instead, they were wandering around the gazebo aimlessly. Corbyn began to believe that he wasn't hiding from normal people anymore. These guys needed a name, in fact, looking at them they resembled he saw in a random indie film. They were called zombies. Corbyn came to the decision that he would call these guys, and anyone that looked like them, zombies.

Now, if "zombies" were present on the station. Then, clearly, something had been wrong for quite a while. Corbyn was lucky to still be alive, he could have been killed in his sleep! This also explains why the elevator wasn't working, and what the people he saw outside of his apartment were panicking about. That means he knocked one of them out! "Aw yeah!" Corbyn threw a fist into the air as he accomplished another triumphant success. He took another gulp of his latte. Now he needed a plan to get out of the new situation he found himself in.

This human; Mr. Carter; was already questioning perhaps the last surviving authority on the station. The simple fact that he was opposed to the world compliance was a subtle indicator of that. Either that, or unbeknownst to me, a logic processor somewhere had been compromised. No matter.

"An unidentified ballistic missile hit us recently. Payload; biological. Coincidental; impossible. Signal jammers aboard it were attuned directly to the frequency of the station's early warning systems. This is no mere act of insurgency; this was directed assault. Hull breach is, by station orientation, approximately... two kilometres west of your position. Extraction of the missile would be wasteful, but to note is that the nearby Solar Array #7 has been damaged. I require you to make repairs."

As I awaited his response, I moved my attentions to other parts of the station. However, something pecked at me.

The elevators were nonfunctional.

I ran a deep scan of the station integrity. Some elevators were most certainly damaged, but something else was present too; a line of code which I had never authorized.

Complete elevator shutdown.

I began scanning the encrypted high-priority transmission logs; someone had activated a global elevator lockdown without my notice or authorization. Whoever they were, they were an expert; they had buried their identity and position between layers and layers and layers of proxies, false tunnels, and firewalls. For any human, this would be daunting to crack.

I am not so weak.

I began digging agressively almost immediately; I would find the source, and I would re-establish my dominion.

The banging suddenly stopped. Emilie thought they'd gone away and pulled herself out from under the bed. As she walked down the hall she could hear what sounded like fighting. The man was dead so who else could it be. She knew she should go help. Being with a group was much better than being alone. Emilie liked being home alone when the parents were gone but in moments like this, the thought, alone, terrified her. It was a similar fear that kept her feet planted. The memory of the man being mauled to death kept repeating itself in her head and Emilie found herself frozen.

Soon the noise of fighting faded away. Emilie didn't know who had won and was finally able to move with only silence filling her ears. But then a voice came from outside the door. It came from the hallway corridor. It belonged to a woman.

"Hey, they're dead. Whoever's here can come out now."

They knew Emilie was hiding? How did they know? Could those things talk? Emilie shook her head. All of the monsters she saw were male. Emilie wanted to believe it was someone to her rescue but at a time like this she couldn't tell if her desperation was clouding reality.

The girl tiptoed to her door and looked through the peephole. She saw a woman with short hair and a sword looking around waiting for a response to her earlier call. She looked human. Not anything like the things that killed the man. Emilie's shaky hand reached for the button to open the door. When it opened Emilie readied her stun gun. She didn't want what happened to the man to repeat.

"Are you looking for me?" Emilie managed to say and gulped. She hoped that she wouldn't be mistaken for one of those monsters. She saw the movies where people did whatever it took to contain any outbreak. Even if it meant killing men, women, and children they suspected were infected. Then she also remembered what happens to other bit victims. Emilie turned her attention towards the man that helped her earlier.

"Did you make sure he's really gone? He got taken down by those things earlier. In the movies if a person is infected with a disease or virus then they come back as one of the things that infected them. Is that what's happening here?" Emilie spoke fast. Her hand started shaking. The more she thought about the situation they were in the more scared she got.

“Solar Array #7, eh? I’ve never actually used the repair kits before, so I’ll need some instruction on that once I get there.” Hal activated a few keys on the exo-suit computer access in order to send commands to the exterior terminal. When he finished, the terminal automatically equipped the dual forks with multi-joint claws, plus a repair kit on the right arm. On the left arm, a more flexible arm that could reach where the forks couldn’t was installed. The combined added systems would easily drain another half hour to forty-five minutes of battery life, giving him a total of about six hours.

It would be enough time to do a lap around the entire station and do the repair job at least. Between Paragon’s instruction and Hal’s experience with the exo-suit functions beyond repair skill, he was confident he’d be able to get some good work done. Hal disengaged from the terminal, turned around, and began rolling quickly along the flat road of the exterior. He was moving at a safe speed.

“Alright, I’m on my way to Solar Array 7. You got a specific diagnosis on what the proble-“

As the exo-suit rolled out in the absolute silence of outer space, Hal’s naked eye spotted a distant object beyond the sensors and holographic lights of the heads-up display. Hal had to turn off the HUD itself in order to get a better look at the object, as the HUD sensors were filled with static when directed towards the object. The object itself looked like… a star ship. Hal wasn’t familiar with star ships, so any of them would look alien in his eyes. This one was more unusual in that it was completely alone, and appeared to be hanging around. It neither approached nor retreated.

“What the hell…?” Hal wondered aloud as the suit swiftly sped down the station exterior road.

It was.. difficult to watch. Difficult to hear. Screens that lit up the small space displayed ever-changing camera feed, from areas of calm to areas of chaos. They were all the same, though. All covered in the same crimson that seemed to follow everywhere; and where it wasn't, where there was resistance, made Yori's soul ache even more.

Innocents didn't deserve such a death. They didn't deserve to be put through such a cruel punishment for something they did wrong unknowingly. And even if they had known, this was beyond the reaction he expected of his people. It was cruel. The screams of contaminants and those might still had a chance but forever scared almost made him want to finish off the whole place now, let all their suffering be over with. he would've, he wanted to, but..

The video feed was cut, and the screens moved up and out of the way of a crystal clear window. A beautiful view of the Aibell took up almost 2/3's of the aperture. While Yori sat up, wondering why he was staring at space now, a hologram on the glass of a tall human male with shaggy crimson hair and eyes developed. From the feet up, standing as if he was leaning against the Aibell, Asher smiled to his friend. "Hey! You know, things are going pretty rough down there, yeah. Didn't go as we had hoped it would, right? I'd be upset too, but look! Good news! I've just received a message from Keoki! How cool is that?" The computerized voice sounded so cheery, as if attempting to make his friend feel better. Unfortunately, Yori remained unfazed. "How long ago was it recorded?" He responded, siting back with his elbow on the arm rest, cheek resting in the palm of his hand.

"Uhm, t-that, that's a good question." It stuttered, loosing the smile. "Very good question. It was sent in about.. Uhh.. About half an hour ago." Asher gave a short chuckle and rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah, it's been pretty hard trying to communicate with the darn thing, but hey, that's something right?" After a few moments, rose eyes looked away from the hologram and rested on the Aibell.

"Play it."

For a moment there, Beth thought the silence was just getting to her. Maybe she was just hopping for someone that would make her feel purposeful because she had rescued their family member from becoming dinner. Or.. well, from dinner being finished. The silence of the hall started bugging at her again, but she knew it probably wasn't going to stay like that for long.

Click, swoosh. A door opened. Finally, a response. Beth turned her head to greet whoever it was—

Oh.
A little girl.
This wasn't good.

Dark eyes blinked "Uh.. Yeah, I guess.." Beth responded, eyeing the stun gun with distaste. God, this kid better not be alone. She dreaded the thought of taking care of it. "Are you... Uh, where are your parents?" Beth took a few steps toward her, but still kept a reasonable distance. She tilted her head a bit to see if there was anyone else inside the apartment before giving a sigh.

At the kid's second inquiry, Beth gave her an odd look. Okay, who the hell lets their kids watch those kinds of movies? I didn't seen my first horror movie until.. well, actually, I've never really watched many movies. Nevermind. She turned back to glance at the victim once again, studied him for a few moments, then turned back to the girl with a tilted head. "He's not coming back. The others finished him down to the bone. Even if he did, he wouldn't be that strong."

".. Hey, listen, you should uh, probably find your parents. They might be worried about you or... something. I gotta go and find my own dad now." Beth tried to give a goodbye without sounding as if she was abandoning the girl. From per perspective, it sounded pretty okay. She wasn't abandoning the girl; she had a stun gun, she'd probably be fine. She could hide in her apartment again and wait for her parents. That's not what Beth would've done, but she expected as much from the girl.

".. Ah, wait, before I go, do you have anything to eat in there?"

I watched with mild curiosity through some exterior cameras while the human attached the required modules to his exosuit, and then began traveling down the exterior hull of the station.

However, another distraction soon arose.

A single external scanner had flared up, declaring a proximity alert; moving my consciousness to the nearest camera, I noted that there was, indeed, a minor concern: a ship of unknown design, in close orbit around the station; it was somehow reflecting my stronger scanners, and it was only noticeable via the visible spectrum. All other spectrums simply produced an irritating haze.

This concerned me vastly, if concern was a word that could be attributed to myself; I am a vast electronic consciousness, not a frail human brain. However, that did enslave me to the whims of my superiors, and in this case, one of those whims was ensuring quarantine was maintained. This craft, whoever it belonged to, was in breach of that.

The question remained, though, did I care? And more importantly, did I wish to spare the energy required to rectify that giant, floating issue?

For now, it was a concern, but not a grave one. I had other issues pending.

Emilie's hopes seemed to turn to dread with each word the girl with the sword spoke. She didn't want to be alone at a time like this. If those things could take out adults then what chance did a little girl hope to have to survive. As the woman turned to walk away Emilie could feel tears forming in her eyes. She was being abandoned. What kind of person would leave a child alone to monsters? Is this what people did in times like these. Was this that example of survival of the fittest? No. Not everyone was like that. The man tried to save her. How did the woman think Emilie was going to find her parents? The man had a hard time getting one of the monsters off of him. Let alone anymore. The girl wouldn't stand a chance. She'd be dead within the hour-no-within the next ten minutes if she tried going to find her parents. And what if they came back? There were too many paths to take.

".. Ah, wait, before I go, do you have anything to eat in there?" Emilie looked up at hearing the woman's question. Then Emilie nodded her head.

"We have plenty to eat. My parents were actually planning on being gone for a while so they left a good amount of food just for me. And there is more food that can be cooked as well." Emilie grabbed the woman's wrist and quickly led her inside. She made sure the door was locked before showing the swordsman the kitchen. "I guess since we're in a emergency you can take whatever you want." Emilie thought about what would happen if the woman left. She thought about the banging on the door and how scared she was. Just waiting for the inevitable. "B-but if you eat, you have to take me with you! I can't wait here. It's just too much knowing that people are dying and that those monsters may eventually break down that door. I want you to at least take me to the station that can transport me to the sector where my parents are. I'll also give you my gun as payment as well!"

Emilie started with just an idea but then it turned to pleading. As she went on tears rolled down her eyes. Emilie just wanted to be with someone. She felt like the woman was strict but if she agreed to let Emilie tag along the little girl would try her hardest not to slow her down.

Hal kept an eye on the strange vessel as the exo-suit silently glided down the exterior. Soon, however, Solar Array #7 poked over the short horizon of the circular station exterior. As he neared, a humongous form the size of a building seemed to approach from beyond the array. It reminded Hal of the bulbous algae he had seen in the synthetic aquariums, with their rolled-over thin film appearance. Only the looming “algae” appeared to be a deep indigo.

Hal forgot the term for it, but he knew how goddamn dangerous it was. He lowered both arms and had both claws grip at a railing. He began to sweat as the purple event closed the distance with obscene speed.

Hal managed to power down the entire suit just in time for the event to wash over him. Through the metal of the suit, Hal felt a tingling sensation- focused primarily around his synthetic vocal organs. He coughed as the irritation got worse with time. In lieu of the electromagnetic ball-wheels, the claws kept the exo-suit planted against the station exterior.

“Oh my god, this sucks,” Hal blathered as the light static continued to irritate him. He had experienced this before during normal work, and it sucked equally as much then. Normally, the passing ion clouds only made a person’s hair stand on-end, but Hal’s synthetic lungs and vocal organs burned with the mosquito nips of static.

Eventually, the event passed. By that time, Hal felt his entire body shivering. The first time it happened, he had two co-workers sandwich their own suits against his own to prevent the suit from drifting too far from the exterior for the ball-wheels to pull him back. Hal booted up the exo-suit and turned up the opacity of the heads-up display. His oxygen supply depleted rapidly from his coughing fits and deep breaths to regain his senses, but he knew his supply would easily outlast the power charge of the suit itself. Thankfully, the suit batteries were designed with shielding to prevent damage from those events when the suit was inactive.

Hal gripped at the controls. Though his grip felt weak, he was able to make the claws let go so he could continue onward. Within the next minute, he had reached the solar array. Hal examined the array for signs of damage that would be obvious to an amateur like him. He then switched on the radio. “Yo Paragon, I’m at the array. What exactly am I looking to fix here?”

Corbyn sat atop the gazebo and pondered his new plan to escape the situation he found himself in. See, he had never had a problem this stressful in his life. Regardless of this, he was not going to go out like a loser sitting atop a gazebo with a decently made vanilla latte.

Corbyn reached inside of his jacket and whipped out his balisong. He opened it with a basic aerial and started flipping it to pass the time. He attempted to perform a zen rollover, but ended up nicking himself with the blade. "Ow! Fuck me!" He inspected his finger only to realize that it hadn't even bit that far into his finger, more like a scratch. This gave him a bright idea. He finished off his latte and tossed it over the edge where it landed on a "zombie's" head and bounced to the floor. He looked at the blade of the balisong and then looked at the placement of all of his foes below him.

Most of them were stationary at this point where he could probably make a break for it, but he was sure to get overwhelmed if he just ran for it without a full plan. Back towards the elevators there were only a few who gave up chasing him the earliest. If he could get over there faster than the "zombies" below him could reach him than he could make enough time to rid of the ones blocking the elevators. In turn, he could have another go at getting the elevators to work.

Corbyn made the assumption and the conclusion that it was worth a shot for him to at least try. He flipped his balisong to an ice pick grip, and he stood up and looked over the edge again. He took a few steps back before he dashed forward and took a large leap over the few "zombies" that were stacked below and landed around 2 meters behind them. When he hit the ground he stumbled, and fell into a roll where he recovered and kept running. He ran with all of his strength with the balisong at his side. He was around halfway, nearly getting sidelined by another "zombie" that was chasing after him.

Corbyn whipped around clotheslining it, and knocking it to the floor. He dashed onward, and took a glance behind him. Plenty of time. Once he got close to the elevators, the three between him and his escape had noticed him and charged. Corbyn ducked into the first one, which tripped over itself when it attempted to lunge at him. He charged the second one and ducked below its chin thrusting, his balisong up below the jaw. He immediately pulled the blade and shouldered his opponent into the third charging "zombie". Both of them tumbled to the ground and Corbyn made a break for the elevators.

All four of the elevators were closed shut. He slammed on the call button and turned to look at the pursuers gaining on him. Only panic could set in at this point and he grabbed at the elevator doors. Pulling his arms apart he used all he had left in him to attempt to pull the doors open to no avail.
