"What the hell, man?"

Casey bounced excitedly down the streets of Manhattan as she moved to the curb to call a cab. It was her first year as a college student and she couldn't wait to get started. She was going to get settled in, meet her roommate, hopefully not hate her roommate, and probably even go to her first college party. What could be better?

She found it easy to hail a cab in her outfit. Shorts and a jersey that said Babe on it. Taxi drivers in New York were bound to take notice of her. As she got in her cab, another person slid in right next to her. She scoffed and turned to him incredulously. "This is my cab, ma'am," he said and she glared.

"I don't think so. First come first serve," she humphed, crossing her arms.

Casey conceded to this arrangement, nodding briskly. "I'm going to NYU. Where are you going?" She wasn't sure if she liked the look of the smile on his face, but she copied his attitude and gave him one of her best. After he introduced himself, she pursed her lips.

"That name sounds so familiar...I'm Casey, by the way. Casey Bryant," she shook his hand firmly. Many people with whom she'd worked had said that her handshake was not one to be trifled with, and she hoped that this was the impression that she gave him.

Casey nodded at him. "No, I guess not, then," she said, looking out the window at the tall skyscrapers. She was from Maine, so the only city-like structures she ever saw were on TV. She was the stereotypical rural white girl in the big city. Looking over at Cary, she knew he was eating it up.

"Famous actor, huh? Anything to say about you?" She asked.

At that moment, the cab pulled over to the campus curb. "Hold that thought, I'm sure I'll have the misfortune of bumping into you later. You've got the fare, right?" She winked at him and got out, heading for the dorms without the slightest look back and putting a little bit of a swing to her hips. She had a feeling she was going to like college.

"What the hell, man?"

Casey walked into the dorm and smiled, looking around at everyone seated among various boxes. She was happy that freshman move in had been last week so that she wouldn't have to deal with the chaos on the first day. This also meant that her roommate wasn't a freshman, which would either help or hurt her. God, what was his name...? She tried to remember from the packet she had been e-mailed over the summer, but it came up blank.

She took the key from her RA and walked down the hall to Room 234. Unlocking and stepping in, she surveyed her already decorated side of the room and looked over to her roommate's side. It was still bare. Sighing she sat down on her bed and faced the door, trying to look nonchalant for when her roommate came in. She did not want their first impression of her to be creepy.

Just then, the key jiggled into the lock and the door opened slightly. She leaped up in excitement, holding out her hand. "Hi, I'm Casey! And you are..." She trailed off when he walked in, "Oh, you've got to be joking."

Casey sighed. "Damn. I knew I recognized your name. And not from some old actor," she said. She reached under her bed and pulled out her entrance packet, showing him that both of their names were on it. "I forgot that they gave me this last week when I moved in," she reasoned.

When he mentioned the party, she shrugged. "Yeah, I was planning on it. Good way to meet people," she said. Plus, she knew that there had to be a fair amount of alcohol being served, and she had a feeling she was going to need it. Her heart sped up just thinking about it.

Casey nodded, agreeing. "Yeah, that would be good," she said. Looking at the clock, she sighed again. "It'll be starting soon, I need to get ready," she announced. Looking awkwardly around the room, she saw that there really wasn't a convenient place to change her outfit without her new roommate seeing everything she didn't want him to. "Well, I'm gonna go find a bathroom..." she said, grabbing her outfit from the bed.

When she came back, she was dressed in a jacket and patterned shorts with her cute black boots. She left her hair where it was since it was fun to play with if she was feeling flirty. She looked Cary up and down, raising an eyebrow. "Going with the grunge look, are you?"

"What the hell, man?"

Casey laughed when he grabbed her and said he wasn't the biggest partier. Did he really think she was? Then her charm must be working. Maine wasn't the most remote place in the world but the town she was from wasn't exactly a hotspot for the big action. Sure, she had been to a couple high school parties and had her fair share of weed and vodka, but she was still a freshman in the biggest city in the country.

"Me? Not so sure about that. You've been to college before, haven't you? You're not a freshman or I would have met you already. Seems like you would know more about this than me," she said as she accepted his chivalry and walked out into the hall. As she walked down the hall next to Cary the distinct sound of music and partying made it's way to her ears, and when she went to outside to the courtyard she found it. College students of all ages were standing around with cups, either dancing or talking. She looked at Cary with a smile, "Want a drink?"

Casey was dumbfounded. "Don't take this the wrong way, but I never would have pegged you for a geek. Although I guess the Science and Law major should have tipped me off," she said as she poured them both some drinks. The selection wasn't great but at least they had something other than beer. She mixed some makeshift screwdrivers (they didn't have orange juice so she used apple instead) and handed it to him. "These are my favorite," she said, humming with joy after she took a sip. It was a blessing and a curse that you couldn't taste how much vodka was in it, so she usually just kept drinking it. What was college for if you couldn't get wasted?

Casey laughed as she downed her cup. "You think that's bad, just wait to see what else I can cook up," she gave him a playful glance. She poured another drink for herself, and filled his back to the top. What fun was a party if they couldn't get completely drunk and not remember it?

Casey shrugged, "For fun? Uhh...I don't know, nothing much," she said.

--time skip--

Casey stumbled in to her dorm room, dragging Cary behind her by the arm. "Mmm...c'mon, 'sss through here," she slurred. She fell back on a bed, not really sure which one, and smiled drunkenly at Cary. "Did ya like your first partayyy?"

Casey pulled away from Cary's kiss, aghast, even in her drunken state. "Whoa, there man," she said, rolling over on to her side and facing him. "Yurr still a virgin...yeah?" she slurred, clambering on to his lap and straddling him. Holding his face, she bent her head so their noses were almost touching.

"Let me know you how it's done," she said, kissing him and removing his shirt.

Casey giggled as his clumsy fingers worked to remove her jacket. He wasn't a bad kisser, there was definitely some natural talent there. She helped him out by removing everything except her bra and underwear. It was a nice ensemble, black lace that didn't leave anything to the imagination, and she hoped he liked it. She worked on removing his jeans all the while kissing him down his chest...

--fade...4 weeks later--

Casey had now had a month of her Psych classes to deal with, and while she wasn't necessarily pleased with the amount of homework she got on a weekly basis, she knew it was something she could handle. Ever since her first day, she'd used about any excuse to be in the library around this time because she knew that her roommate, Cary, would be here studying for his classes as well. They hadn't ever really talked about that night after the party, but it wasn't awkward between them either. Of course, they had gone from despising each other straight to having sex, so it was a wonder that they were on civil terms at all. While Casey wasn't a virgin and didn't really have emotional attachments about that kind of thing, she still enjoyed seeing and talking to him.

Right now though, she wasn't feeling so hot and definitely did not want him seeing her get sick, so she ran as quick as she could to the nearby restroom as all of her lunch chose to make a reappearance. This had been happening for a solid two weeks now, she could hardly keep anything down, but she hadn't had any time to go to the campus nurse. She figured she should go soon, though. This was seriously starting to annoy her.

Casey scoffed, "Thanks, Dad, but I think I can make it to the doctor on my own."

She put a hand to her stomach, still a bit nauseous. "Probably just some stomach bug anyway. Should be out of my system soon," she reasoned to herself. As it was, if it had been a normal stomach bug it would have been out of her system last week. She only needed one semester of Health classes in high school to know that. Simply put, she knew this wasn't a normal stomach bug and yet she refused to admit it to herself.

"In fact, I'll go right now. Who needs an A in Psych anyway?" She asked rhetorically behind her as she gathered her bag and moved towards the door. "Be back in a jiff," she said brightly.

Casey patted her knees rapidly as she waited for the campus nurse practitioner to re-enter the exam room. When Casey had told her what had been happening, the nurse had put on a smile, with a look in her eyes that gave Casey the impression that smiling was the least appropriate thing to be doing.

"Ms. Bryant...Casey...I'm afraid the test results came back positive," the nurse said. Casey frowned at her, not really sure what that was implying. "What exactly does that mean? What test was it?" Casey asked tentatively.

"Well, I'm not really sure how to say this, but, you're pregnant," she said.

--

Casey opened the dorm room door slowly, leaning against it and looking at Cary. "I think we're in trouble."

Casey looked at Cary, her expression significantly paler and shocked. "Cary I'm...I'm pregnant," she whispered.

It was silent for a moment, and she took a small step forward and looked at him, a puppy dog expression in her eyes. "Well, say something!" she begged.

Casey couldn't believe that he was saying these things to her.

"I...you...I like you, too, but...that's not what this is about, I..." She blew out a stressed breath, closing her eyes and raking one hand through her hair. Opening sullen eyes, she sank down to the floor.

"Liking each other isn't going to be enough," she said apathetically, blankly staring at the wall in front of her.

[font=times]Casey shook her head. "No, no, not love, not...marriage. It...we...we need money! And support! And other things that this baby is going to need! I can't..." She crossed her arms over her stomach and closed her eyes.

"I don't know if I can be an 18 year old mother."

Casey shook her head. "No, that's not it, I..." She sighed, not really knowing how to explain it to him.

"You're acting like this is so easy! We're talking about being parents! In college! You may be almost done but I'm just getting started! What am I gonna tell my parents?" She groaned, banging her head on the door behind her.
