She can also be loudmouthed and obnoxious, mainly because she enjoys attention, but is actually quite pleasant and fun to be around. She is a cunning thief, never sloppy and always discreet. Whenever she feels the need, she utilizes her breath taking beauty to manipulate whatever situation as she sees fit. Contrary to popular belief, she is actually a rather generous caregiver when she wants to be, often adapting a motherly quality, especially to Adam and children, both of whom she loves. She longs to wed and rear a family of her own one day, but always seems to attract the least of men. She has a self proclaimed weakness for brawny, brash and arrogant womanizers. And married men.

HISTORY: Helena was born into a band of impish and conniving gypsies in the city of Nice, France. They stayed for about a year after her birth, living in the city's outskirts as unwelcome rogues. Her father was an abusive drunkard who beat her mother in front of her for as long as she could remember. She has no pleasant memories of her father, and was actually quite happy when the fool died of heart failure the spring of her eleventh birthday. She stayed with her mother, a beautiful songbird who entranced passers by with her voice. Helena remembers her as a caring woman who always looked after her even when it seemed she had no strength. Because widows were outlawed in her tribe, the year Helena turned fourteen, her mother married her uncle. He seemed much more tolerable than her father once was, but as Helena blossomed into a comely young woman, he began making advances at her. She stayed as far away from him as she possibly could, becoming friends with a fellow traveler about six years her senior. She would describe him as her first love, and the two even shared a few intimate moments, but soon he became engaged to a pretty suitor.

Helena was heartbroken, but there was not much she could do. When he married, Helena was about fifteen. She began learning how to use her song voice from her mother, as well as tips and tricks for deceiving others into believing their fortunes were being told. When Helena turned nineteen, her mother died of pneumonia, and she learned that she would have to follow in her footsteps to become her uncle's third wife. The band was then traveling through Germany, where she attended a circus and met young Adam Rourke. The two quickly became friends and Helena soon ran away to join his troupe of performers, working for room and board as a maidservant. A few years later, she and Rourke decided to leave the circus lifestyle and made a small living in Cherbourg.

She found that she rather enjoyed singing and was happy that she inherited her mother's talent. She worked a few jobs, mostly as a singer in taverns, but she also swindled her money with men as her primary targets. Though her bond with Adam is supposed to be like that of a brother and sister, sometimes she can't help but feel romantically attracted to the dashing young man. Much like her previous relationship, she and Adam have shared a couple intimate moments, but Adam never pursues anything further. She has learned to remain quiet and presumably content with this.
