Adonis nodded, “I’m sure she would. She’s been cooped up here most of the day,” Adonis rose from the desk, he had been busy using ink and quill to fill out the paperwork that demanded his attention. He smiled as he brought San down, who pattered happily on all four’s down the stairs to sit across from Nieve, her tail wagging eagerly like a puppy. Her horns glittered in the midday light and the monster licked her lips, leaning forward to sniff whatever it was Nieve was doing. She whined, wanting to help, but not knowing how. Adonis set down paper and ink, “she’s quite good at this, I think it makes her feel useful.” He went to sit down at his own desk as San got to work, drawing all of the herbs and ingredients that Nieve had on the table. She stuck her tongue out of her mouth between sharp fangs. Her expression was nothing short of adorable as she worked on depicting what it was Nieve was doing.

When it was done, San nudged the photo forward with her nose, her tail swishing once more. Did Nieve like it? San wondered. Lyra too, had returned from a day of quests and sat across from them, “I brought this, I thought we all might try some.” A small tart that had yellow, lemon custard and crunchy meringue on top. “Here San,” Lyra cut off a slice. “Crust, lemon, meringue.” She pointed to each piece, then sliced off some for Nieve and at last, a piece for herself. Lyra’s hands were shaking, ever so slightly, if you looked closely. No doubt the banshee had, had a vision of a death. She had learned early on that divulging to others of their doom would not stop it, it would merely change how they met their end. She remained silent of it, of course, instead, indulging in sweets to stop the terror.

San sniffed the tart uncertainly, it smelled sour. “Lemon,” she parroted, looking between Lyra and Nieve to see if it was for eating, sniffing, or something else. “You eat it,” Lyra mocked eating to show her. San licked it tentatively, “try this,” she pushed a spoon towards San, who held it in her fist, wondering what she was supposed to use it for. “Hmm, I guess it really is too early for that.” San licked the spoon, cringing at the taste. “Bad!” She placed the spoon down and licked the tart again, taking small bites, as she was uncertain if she liked the lemon or not. “Silly girl,” someone said from behind them. It seemed that the Guild was already becoming fond of their new pet. San’s Tail swished, deciding that she enjoyed the flavor and she began to take nibbles, unable to gobble it down because of the sour lemon.

“I’ve realized,” Adonis cleared his throat, coming up from behind them once more, “that San is quite trainable.” He pat her head, the monster making a sound between a purr and a mewl of delight. “I think she could become quite useful, even if she can’t yet communicate properly.”

Nieve sat herself down on the couch then, her materials all ready. She needed to make new medicines to restore her supply but it was a bit of a slow process so there was no reason why she should't spend some time with San. Still a part of her wanted to go adventuring again with her brother and Pheenie because her heart couldn't help but flutter everytime she looked at the Sword Saint. Once again she was grouped up with Lyra, so it would be the three of them here together. "Just let me get my mixing tools." She had a mortar and pestle to grind up plants, she had vials and tubes to mix and put liquids together. Her kit was all set up and ready to go.

As Nieve got to work to create a new batch of disinfectant chemicals from the ingredients she had, grinding things up and then putting the powder into the mixing tubes, she noticed San was at work drawing. "What are you up to?" She asked softly, giving the drawing a glance. It was crude, like the drawing she apparently did up in the Glass Tower that was supposed to be about family. Lyra was here with pie and Nieve thanked her. "I'll have some after I'm done, my hands are a bit dirty right now." She wiggled her fingers, stained green and smelling somewhat like eucalyptus plant oil.

With three batches of disinfectants finished, and a bottle of invigorating juice, finally it was time to make something a little more fun. "I'm going to make some poison now, so please, be careful not to ingest." Purple ooze dripped out of the vial at last and she decided to take a drink, feeling the painful sting drip down her throat. "Wait, did you just drink poison?" Adonis asked, a little bit surprised. She nodded, calmly putting her materials away. "Yeah, I was made to try out lots of poison as a child, so I've developed a high resistance to them." She felt a little dizzy and faint, but she was used to it. Adonis decided to say some things about how trainable San was then.

If she was trainable, then that meant she could be used on missions. "Lyra, do you think San can sense ether?" If so, then someone skilled in magic could teach her how to manipulate it. Lyra was a banshee, so she could be a candidate for that. Nieve could do some magic too, mostly just summoning wind though.

San did not understand most of the words being spoken, for the most part, since she had been freed of her prison, she was very happy. The only thing San wished now was that her garbled language was the same as the one being spoken by all of the things walking on two legs. San had never encountered anyone that was actually interested in her and she was eager to prove her worth, even if it was just scribbling leaves on paper. San held up her paper happily, her claws nearly tearing through the thin parchment. “It’s very good,” Lyra said, making those strange sounds again. “Good,” was a word that San recognized and her tail waggled happily. She turned towards the delicious smelling food Lyra had brought. Food was always good, San thought.

The monster made a sound akin to a purr when she gobbled down the tart. It was sour, but also sweet and while it confused San, she greatly enjoyed her piece. “Good!” The Monster grinned a fanged grin and turned towards Nieve, who looked as though she were going to be sick. “Wrom?” San inquired, wondering why Nieve suddenly looked green. Adonis pat her on the head, attempting to get San to still. If Nieve was confident that she would be fine, then there was no need for him to interfere. Adonis sighed, “you really only think about business, don’t you Nieve?” His expression was wistful, “you should go and enjoy your childhood, not have to work for an old hag like me.” Lyra laughed at this, then turned towards Nieve.

“I’m sure she can already sense ether,” Lyra admitted, “I can sense her’s, she must be able to tell that there’s an energy surrounding everyone and thing.” As though to respond, San whacked her hand against the table, wanting to know what they were speaking of. San wanted to learn their language so that she too, could have conversations and not just listen to their noises. “Most magical creatures can at least sense some ether, even if they aren’t all that magically inclined.” Lyra tapped a finger against her chin, wondering what Nieve was getting at. “Why? Do you want me to train her?” Her cheeks suddenly turned red, “I-I don’t think I could, I’m not a good teacher,” Lyra avoided looking at them and scratched her cheek. “I’m terrible with children, actually.”

“I’m sure we would have to find out what she has a knack for first.” Adonis’s ears twitched, he turned, returning to his desk, needing to continue his paperwork. “Erromfrru!” San chirped, she wanted to know what they were talking about, because she had a feeling that it had to do with her.

Meanwhile:

The King of the Faerie had received an urgent query from the dragon guarding the Glass Tower. In a hurry he left the Queen to attend to their duties and ventured out to the forest, wondering what had happened. An accident, was all the dragon said. When the King reached the Tower, the dragon was pawing at his eyes, one of them still bleeding. “What is it? What happened?” The King demanded, his tone threatening. “Foolish mortals broke into the Tower-“

“Humans?”

“No, Fey, they had two humans with them,” The King stiffened. “And the girl?”

“Gone.”

The King threw the door open, running up the spiral staircase to find the door open. The ceiling to the Glass Tower had shattered, there were books askew and the bed was unmade, it was clear some sort of a struggle happened. “No, no, no.” He looked underneath the bed and in the bathroom, but the girl was nowhere to be seen. “The Queen is going to have someone’s head for this.”

❝Once upon a time, I fell in love.❞

She could feel the burn in her chest, a tingling on her tongue. Nieve closed her eyes to focus on what her body was telling her. Her heart began to burn, beating becoming erratic. She decided to lay down to ride out the symptoms, retrieving her scroll to scribble down notes on this poison. "Fast acting..." She murmuerd softly. "Targets... the heart. Dizziness and fatigue..." Her hands got a little shay, but that was no big deal. While San made a sympathetic sort of noise, neither Adonis nor Lyra figured this was out of the ordinary. Though Adonis seemed a bit sad she was always so serious.

"It's okay. I like working." It wasn't that she liked working, but she had to. Nieve... even though she was still a child, she was still a killer. She'd hurt people in ways they could never heal from. Does someone like her really deserve a carefree childhood? No, Nieve decided. She pointed to her bag then, because her own hands were too shaky to do it herself. "San, take the green leaf with four star points, and then rub it together with the purple bottle that's labeled 'Amola Tinct'." Despite the symptoms Nieve was very calm as she rested her head on the soft armchair of the couch.

"Please rub them until they begin to smell like a mixture of cinnamon and elf sweat. Then put the mix under my nose. If my calculations are correct, that's the antidote." If she did the math wrong, however, things could go awfully. Well. San didn't really know how to speak but this was a good teaching moment for Lyra or Adonis to help her learn more words.

When turned red over being suggested to teach San Nieve shook her head. "Adonis is busy with administrative management, and I'm not feeling well, so it's up to you to find her specialty." Lyra just needed some confidence. San already liked her anyways. "It'll be fine." She held her hand out, offering head scritches to the feral girl.

San tilted her head to the side in question, whimpering. Why did Nieve look funny? What was wrong? She glanced between Nieve and Lyra, her tail swishing slowly, fearfully. San did not want to lose her friend, not after she had just gained her. "She doesn't understand, I think it's too many words," Lyra said slowly. "I'll try to guide her," Lyra reached out, "San, this leaf," she pointed to the one with four stars. San perked up and lifted it, looking between the two girls to see what to do next. Lyra pointed to a colored bottle next. San lifted it and sniffed inside, wrinkling her nose. She poured a drop on the leaf, trying to give it to Nieve. Lyra shook her head, rubbing her hands together, so San began rubbing her's together. Lyra leaned over to smell it and nodded, gently grasping San's wrist and holding it out underneath Nieve's nose.

San watched, eager, hoping that it would help her friend. Tymol burst through the front doors of the Guild, his cheeks vibrant. It was a hot day out, the summer cicadas chirping with fervor. San looked up, wondering what the white haired boy looked so agitated about. "Adonis," Tymol held a scroll of paper, crumpling it in his fist. "I'm supposed to give this to you," Adonis looked up from his desk, having been reading and took the paper. The royal seal glistened in the light, a unicorn and narwhal crossing horns as though they were swords. "Oh my, what did one of you do?" Adonis sighed, opening up the letter, he read it slowly, then once more, is eyes narrowing. "I'm leaving for a bit, it seems that the King and Queen have summoned all Guild Masters in the area."

San jumped off of the bench, hoping to go with him, but Adonis stopped her at the door. She whimpered, wondering why she couldn't go. "No walk now, later, I promise." He pat her head and closed it behind her, San whined, turning back towards the others. "Walk," the little monster insisted, rubbing one of her horns against the wooden door. "Maybe later," Lyra rose, petting San's head, being careful of her horns. Why was Nieve leaving Lyra in charge of the little rascal? Lyra did not know. She scratched her chin, feeling a bit out of league here.

"Tymol, you're around her age, show San something cool." Tymol grinned, "nothing that can get her in trouble," his grin slipped a bit. "Nothing illegal," he promised, crossing his hand over his heart. "Come to the kitchen San," San used her foot to scratch behind her ear, wondering what was being said. Tymol came closer, gesturing with a hand. Oh? He wanted her to follow him? Okay, San leaped onto her feet, following Tymol into the kitchen and wondering what they were doing.

With a nod, Nieve watched as Lyra guided San through making the antidote. The fragrance from the concoction made by rubbing the Amola Tinct with the four star leaf neutralized the poison targeting the heart. "I'll name it, um... Versimmon." Not her favorite kind of poison, but it was still useful nonetheless. Was it bad that she poisoned herself? As long as she knew how to fix it and cure it, there wasn't a big problem Nieve figured. San finished her instructions and placed the leaf below her nose. Nieve sniffed it up and felt a chill rush through her body - a sign that the antidote was working. "Good girl, you did it." Nieve told San, hoping the girl understood. "I'm tired... I'm going to take a nap now." She curled up on the couch, eyes drifting shut as fatigue overcame her.

Nieve felt her eyes open up some unknown amount of time later. Once again, the dreams didn't come. As long as she drank a little poison, the dreams wouldn't come and she could have some peace and quiet. She felt herself being carried in someone's arms. The night around them was dark in the streets of Phosphora City as they approached the Inner Circle area. Voices, Allen and Pheenie were speaking. "Apparently there's a commotion, there's reports that something big is coming involving all the local guilds." Allen's voice was a bit worried. "It might be dangerous for us to stick around with Lamia Scale for now." Pheenie's voice trembled as she wrung her hands before her, fingers intertwined. "We owe Adonis so much..." Her voice trailed off. "Is it really okay to abandon them?"

"Hmm? What's going on?" Nieve shifted, allowing her big brother to keep carrying her. She was a wisp after all, wisps were light and easy to carry, even for other wisps. "All the guild leaders were called to the Palace, apparently." Allen filled her in with a quiet frown. "Something might be happening soon. Something that could get unwanted attention on us if we aren't careful." The King and Queen may recognize them as the runaways from the Magnolia family. They were aristocracy after all, it was a risk. "T-take it easy w-with the p-poison, okay?" Naturally her big brother Allen and her love, Pheenie, they both knew her problem, she had explained it to them already. They weren't going to stop her. "Th-this time y-you were passed out the wh-whole way."

Nieve nodded, making a slightly guilty face. "Sorry for worrying you. You both know I didn't mean to." She was still tired, having slept through dinner at the Guild Hall earlier. Hopefully there was some food leftover in their home for her to snack on before going back to sleep. As they entered the inner quarter of the city, they passed by a guard station. "It's getting late, you three shouldn't be out when it's this dark." Captain Grant said with a grin. "There's reports of more goblin activity over the hilltop, so you should be careful and abide by curfew." Allen paid the toll and they continued walking. "We'll be careful. Tell your son he can come play again sometime!" Allen waved and Nieve's eyes felt lidded. She was about to pass out again, wasn't she? Was the poison a little too strong this time? She would have to examine herself... later or... something...

"Adonis," the Guild members were waiting for him when he returned, well after dark. "What happened?" Tymol demanded, "Why did the King and Queen summon you?" Lyra asked, "Mrruuu!" San echoed, the guild hall noisy with the sounds of dinner. Adonis sat at the table, San jumping onto the bench beside him. Someone placed dinner down in front of him and Adonis ate slowly as the others sat around him, tense. At last, Adonis cleared his throat, taking a sip of water. Almost instantly a hush came upon them, San yawned, growing tired. "The King and Queen of the Fey summoned every Guild Master in town to their court," San wondered what was being said. Everyone was acting so tense, she didn't understand why of course.

Adoni's hand fell onto her tuft of blonde hair, petting her head. "It seems that a great error has been made," he spoke softly. The room was so quiet now you could hear a pin drop. "The Glass Tower in the woods was broken into and something belonging to the King and Queen has been taken. Something important," he turned back towards them, his hand falling off of San's head. "Of course, whoever broken and whatever was taken will remain a mystery." Adonis rose from the table. "They also want to commission a few of the Guilds to fight the goblin hoard that have steadily been coming this way. I agreed, so we will choose a few fighters in the morning. Come on San, time for bed," San followed him, Lyra and Tymol exchanging glances and running up the stairs behind him.

"Shit!" Tymol slammed the door behind him, San jumping and hiding underneath the bed. "Sorry," the white haired boy murmured. "What are we gonna do?" He turned towards Lyra, who glanced at the monster beneath the bed. "So San is... a princess?"

"I doubt it," Adonis pat is leg, the girl crawling out slowly to sniff his hand. "Probably just some pet they wanted to keep quarantined, maybe an experiment gone wrong. We all know their only daughter is married to the human King." San purred, rubbing her head against Adonis's leg. "Why it's so important to them, I don't know." Lyra shook her head, "it was pretty luxurious up there." They all looked at San, who scratched behind her head with her foot. "I see no reason why she can't stay here, with the rest of us outcasts," Adonis spoke at last. "Lyra, wrangle her into the bath, will you? Kid's been walking around on the floor all day." Lyra nodded, Tymol and Adonis leaving. The red haired banshee did her best to forcefully scrub San in the bath and tuck her into bed. When Lyra rose to leave, San grabbed her hand, shaking her head. "Shrmm!" San insisted, wanting Lyra to stay.

"Alright, but just until you fall asleep." Lyra sighed, setting herself on the edge of the mattress.

It was time to decide who would get to do what. There were two major points of contention today that they would have to deal with. The goblin horde on the hilltop was getting bigger and needed to be purged. Not only that, but they needed to deal with the new problem of the King and Queen possibly looking for San. "I think it's only right that those of us who saved San from that Tower should be in charge of keeping her with us." Tymol said with an affirmative nod, puffing his cheeks. For a spry little kid he had a strong sense of what he wanted to do. "Is that wise?" Maybe it was bad of them, but the two wisps had very good reasons to keep separated from potential royalty.

"The three of us can take care of the goblins so they don't reach the city." Allen offered with a grin, plucking the bowstring of his sacred bow. "We're pretty strong, we could take care of them ourselves." Nieve raised an eyebrow, wondering if that was making it too obvious. "But Nieve doesn't kill things." Tymol frowned, stomping his foot. "Aren't we the ones responsible for San? And you're one of the ones San likes most, Nieve!" One would think a runaway fugitive like Tymol would understand the need to stay under wraps and hidden away. Likely the neutrality protections that applied to them because they were nobles, it was different than for Tymol. "U-um... w-we could protect the city..." Pheene murmured, looking down at her hands as if they were suddenly very interesting.

Nieve glanced at San then, frowning. She felt a bit of responsibility towards the girl. She and Lyra were her main caretakers, weren't they? But she understood the need for prudence as well. Nieve wasn't a particularly emotional girl, and she was never all that good at acting her age. She wasn't allowed that chance. Something Adonis said yesterday struck an odd chord in her. "San, do you want me to stay with you today?" Her heart fluttered and twinged painfully and she looked back at Pheenie with longing clear in her eyes. Her heart beat for Pheenie, so elegant, so beautiful, the Sword Saint of Phosphora. But Pheenie would never love her the same way she loved her brother, Allen. They were due to be wed, and a wedding had no place for a girl with unrequited love.

Allen gave her a hesitant look then. "If you think that's best, we'll help out with the royal problem too." He said at last, curving an eyebrow up. It was more dangerous, especially if they ran the risk of running into royalty. Yet they didn't want to tell anyone of their identities, even if Adonis might make it easier for them to remain incognito. "S-S-San doesn't l-like me anyways." Pheenie said with an awkward wiggle. A faint blush came to Nieve's face as she watched the shy tall sword saint look insecurely towards little San, unsure as to how to make friends with as much social anxiety as she bore.

When morning came, San waited patiently in bed for someone to come get her. She still had yet to figure out door handles, but after being shown several times, could now use the bathroom on her own. Still, San waited until the door opened, Lyra greeting her. "Morning sleepy head," she said as San sat up. San liked Lyra, she always smelled nice and she gave San lemons. "Morning sleepy head," San parroted, her tail wriggling happily. "Let's get you up and dressed," San crawled out of bed, following Lyra to the bathroom. "Come on you, let's brush those teeth," San clenched her jaw, shaking her head. She did not like the tooth brush, but Lyra pried her jaw opened, scrubbing her teeth until they were shiny and brushing her hair, then putting it up into pigtails so that San wouldn't trip over her blonde locks.

Once the morning ordeal was over, San followed Lyra downstairs for breakfast. "San likes bacon!" She chimed, rubbing her head against Adonis's leg to greet him. "Good morning to you too," Adonis smiled, the guild rowdier than normal today. It seemed that they were ready to hunt goblins. When Nieve arrived, San happily scampered over to her, following her to a table. She yipped happily when Tymol set down food in front of her and gobbled up breakfast. "Don't eat so fast," the blonde scolded like a fretful older brother, "you're gonna get a stomach ache." San licked her lips, Lyra reaching over with a napkin to wipe up her face. San was content with all of her friends here.

Nieve wanted to stay? San nodded her head, she wanted Nieve to stay here with her! Tymol slammed his fist against the table, but San didn't know why. Was he angry about something? Should she be angry too? They were all speaking in words San didn't understand, but that was okay. She just liked to be with them. "San like Nieve!" It was hard for her to say Nieve's name, since v was not a letter that the little monster was used to. "San want Nieve stay!" her horns glinted in the daylight, San wanting her friend to stay here and stop going off to do other things that San couldn't do with her.

"San like... Pheenie," she squirmed, pouting. "I'll go on the goblin hunt," Lyra volunteered, "since I can fight and all." It was true, the banshee and her previous master had fought many a foe. Now it seemed, she would take up the sword again. Goblins were despicable creatures that started more fights than they could end.

Nieve looked at San, the feral beast that knew little more than how to say a few words. She was learning, but it was going to be quite the process to get her to the point of being able to properly communicate just yet. It would be safer to avoid dealing with the King's Court, but even so San wouldn't understand that. And Nieve couldn't help but feel a little responsible for taking care of her. She made the offer, though she already knew deep down what San was going to say. "Okay. We'll help take care of you then." Pheenie and Allen would be helping too, and Pheenie seemed a little pleased when San told her she liked her too, though how much of it was true was hard to tell.

Lyra volunteered to go on the goblin hunt. "Some of the other guilds will be helping you too, but you shouldn't be alone out there, Lyra." Allen told her, brow furrowed. "Goblins are weak, but they have large numbers, you know?" It would be dangerous to send her out alone. "I can go too, then?" Tymol raised his hand, looking hopefully that he would get to stick with San. The thief seemed oddly fond of her. "No, it's okay. Pheenie, stay here and make friends with San, okay? I'll go with Lyra to help her." He grinned, looking like a cool hunter of evil. "My bow should help clear goblins. We've never had a duo mission, have we?" Pheenie's eyes went wide, and she twiddled her thumbs, Allen had never gone off on a mission without her before. "W-w-will you be, um, o-okay?" She asked anxiously. Allen replied with a kiss right on the lips so Nieve looked away.

"So, what do we have to do to keep San safe?" Adonis looked at them and nodded, beginning his explanation. "Well, the King and Queen want to investigate each Guild House to see if anyone took the girl from the Glass Tower." He told them with a grave expression. "That's their first step, then most likely, they'll hire some Guilds to help them investigate the Glass Tower to look for a hint as to what may have happened that night." Well, there was one way to make sure that didn't happen. "Then we can take San to stay at our house for now, maybe?" It was a suggestion since San wouldn't be here in the Guild House when the Royal Inspection happened.

Nieve took San's hand, kneeling down to her height. "I will make more medicines. You can help me." She could make San her assistant for now to keep them both busy. "We can gather ingredients and you can help me mix them into bottles." Naturally it would be hard at first for San, but with enough explanation hopefully she would pick up a few more words. "You could also try to discover her ether affinity." Adonis suggested, and Nieve nodded, realizing that they might as well discover that. "Okay, I'll do that too." If they could find out what San could do, then wouldn't she be able to help on the field too?

San didn't understand everything that was happening. She knew that Nieve was staying and that was good, but Lyra was going away now. Where was she going? San watched as Lyra and Allen left through the door. She turned back towards the others, wondering what they would do now. San just wanted to play, or color, or maybe take a nap in a beam of sunlight, but everyone was looking at her worriedly. Was there food on her nose? San attempted to look at it, but doing so made her dizzy and so she stopped and lay her head on Nieve's lap, careful not to get her horns stuck in anything. "So we have to smuggle her out!" Tymol hit his hand against his fist, determined to keep San safe from the King and Queen. Adonis scratched his head, "Don't worry," Tymol assured him, "if anyone will take the fall for this, I will! Besides, once they search the Guild's and realize she isn't here, they'll leave us alone and investigate somewhere else."

"I'm more worried about what will happen when someone slips up." They could not hide San forever, of course. Perhaps once the buzz died down, it would be safer for San to come out of hiding. "Remember, doing this will be a direct violation against the crown," Adonis warned. "Being caught means imprisonment, or worse," Tymol only shook his head. "We already agreed on it? Didn't we?" He grinned, powder white hair gleaming in the light. "I'll take the fall, if it comes to it, don't worry Nieve." Tymol assured her, San sitting up quickly and writhing. She was getting bored of just sitting here, the little monster wanted to go out and do something!

"We should smuggle her in a wagon!" Tymol suggested. "That way we can take her stuff too," Adonis may have spoiled the little monster a bit. The whole guild seemed to fall in love with the child though, unable to resist her adorableness. Nieve took San's hand, kneeling down to her height. "Nieve!" San yipped happily, "San... help Nieve!" The monster's tail swished, pleased with herself for coming up with such complex words on her own. "Alright, let's sneak her out!" Tymol clapped his hands together, having produced a wheelbarrow out of nowhere. No doubt he had stole it from some unsuspecting gardener. It was easy for Tymol to lift San up and place her inside, her blonde head peaking out every so often as he piled stuff inside.

"San can you play hide and seek?" He asked, pushing her head underneath the pile. "San... hide!" The little monster agreed, "Okay, but you have to stay quiet too." He made a motion, putting his finger against his lips. San copied him, then hid beneath the pile of belongings once more. "Alright, lead the way to your house Nieve," Tymol grinned, convinced that this would be a cinch.

The inspection for Lamia Scale would take place tomorrow, so they had to get San out of here today. This was an important mission to take care of their newest member, to keep her safe from whatever the Crown may want her for. Considering the rumors from the capital, and the possibility of an actual illegitimate child, they couldn't be too careful. If San was an illegitimate heir to the throne, then they really could be in trouble here for taking her away from the Glass Tower. Nieve and Allen may be forced to return home to their parents in the Magnolia Estate, something neither of them wanted to do. "Yes, you're right, we'll have to get her out. We need to do it now, I think."

Sopheene blushed and copied Nieve by going to her knees to lower herself closer to San's height. Though for the tall model-esque figure Sopheene bore, it was hard for her to really try to look smaller for San's liking. "U-u-um, m-maybe..." She trailed off, looking down at her hands. "What is it?" Nieve asked, trying to coax Sopheene out of her shell. "It's okay, you can say it." Sopheene gulped, slightly emboldened by Nieve's words. She was not used to speaking, especially without Allen around. "Sh-should San... get a chance to... say her goodbyes to the... rest of the g-guild before we go?" She asked, looking like a scared child about to be scolded for speaking out. "No, no goodbyes, only see you laters." Because San would definitely see everyone later. There was nothing saying they couldn't come visit their home in the Inner Quarter, either.

After giving San time to talk to Adonis, Tymol went out to scout out a safe route for them to go. Nieve put her purple cloak over San's head, hopefully disguising and obscuring her appearance for now. It took about ten minutes but Tymol returned, a toothy grin on his face. "I got it, let's follow my lead." He marched in front, looking little more than a kid out and about the town for the day. Nieve took San by the hand, helping the girl follow along, and Sopheene took the rear. "Down this path." Tymol said after they neared Phosphora's gates. "The trees make it a natural blind spot so the Guard Tower won't have a clear view of us." Nieve nodded, grimacing. "Through here." She said, motioning with her hands.

Eventually the wooded path took them to a wall. "A hole's been made here, we can crawl through it." Tymol went first, of course. The hole would take them through the Outer Quarter, where the poorer peasants and farming families lived. It definitely wasn't as nice as the Inner Quarter, and even less nice than the other two Quarters, the Pristine and the Magicant Quarters. Tymol took them through the Outer Quater's winding maze-like alleys, which had been the boy's old home before he was made a fugitive for his thievery. If he had any feelings about being home he didn't show them.

A purple cloak was set atop her head for good measure. San hid underneath the bundle inside of the wheelbarrow, wondering what kind of game this was. San remained quiet, remembering what Nieve had told her. She kept her head down too, hearing Tymol and Phiphi talk quietly among themselves. What was it about? San wondered, she attempted to peak her head out of the bundle of clothing, it was hot inside of her hiding spot and she did not like it. Maybe if she took her clothing off it would be cooler? Yes, San decided, that made the most sense! She began to slowly strip off her clothing, moving quite a bit within the wheelbarrow until she was naked. There, that was better already. San settled down, a hand pressing on her head to get her to stop wiggling. "Stay still!" Tymol warned, passing in front of them were two palace guards.

They went through the back alleys and corridors, attempting to stay out of sight of the front streets and busy market squares. San was growing bored and restless, just how far was Nieve's house? San wondered. The cart came to an abrupt stop, a guard stepping in front of them. "Halt, we need to inspect your wheelbarrow Sir." San held her breath, knowing that this was important. If she was found, the game would be over! San remained perfectly still, doing her best to not so much as let her tail wiggle. She bit down on it to stop it from moving, smelling how tense everyone was. The monster buried herself further beneath the pile of clothing, the guard rummaging through the top layer. "Alright, keep moving," they rushed past, Tymol breathing a sigh of relief. "I thought for sure we would be found out," he gave a confident grin to Nieve and Phiphi.

At last the wheelbarrow came to a stop. "So this is your house?" Tymol asked, raising a brow. San poked her head out of her hiding place, her tail still in her mouth. "Hrmm?" She asked, spitting her tail out and crawling out of the basket. "S-S-San w-why are-are you n-naked?!" Phiphi squealed, quickly picking up the dress San had discarded to try and get the the little monster back into it. It was a hot day outside, San did not appreciate the tight, constricting dress she was forced into. "Shh!" Tymol looked at Nieve nervously, "let's get inside, then we can start yelling," he urged, hoping that they could get inside quickly so that no one would spot a very obvious horned child that walked on all four's.

"Don't worry San, no one is gonna take you from us," Tymol said protectively, squeezing her cheeks between his hands. "No they're not," San shook her head, escaping Tymol's grasp and looking around the new space curiously.

As they neared Nieve's residence that she shared with Allen and Pheenie, they heard an alarm sound through the city. What was this alarm, Nieve never heard it before. Pheenie looked flustered as she forced San back into the dress, burying her in cloth again. Tymol covered his ears, it was so loud Nieve was getting a headache. "That's the warning horn!" Tymol exclaimed, trying to be heard over the blaring blasting through the city's streets. "There's an emergency!" Nieve glanced around as people stared up at the sky. She decided to look at the sky as well. Above them was a horde of dragons, tamed by what appeared to be goblins, ready to attack the city. "Goblins?" But weren't they fighting at the hilltop outside the city? Why were-

"Allen! Lyra!" Pheenie's eyes widened when she realized what this meant. If the goblins were here - then did that mean the army fighting them had lost? Were Lyra and Allen safe? Nieve narrowed her eyes, trying to think of what to do. Tymol was clinging to San as if to make sure she wouldn't suddenly run away, Pheenie looked ready to run off into the fray in search of her loved one. "Prepare for evacuations!" They could hear the loud booming voice of Finn Grant, the young guard captain, as he tried to corral the citizens to follow his lead. "Head to the shelters!" Tymol stared at Nieve in panic, mouth agape. If they went to the shelters, San would definitely be found out and they would be caught. This was a disaster! "Tymol, stay with San and get in the house, you know where it is. Pheenie and I have to make sure the others are safe." It wouldn't do anyone any good to panic now. Someone had to be the one to stay calm. The little sprite patted San on the head with a face of calm on her visage. "We'll be back. Listen to Tymol and stay with him, be good." Did she understand?

The goblins were attacking Phosphora. This meant that areas on the city's outskirts such as the Lamia Scale guildhall could very well be in danger. "But what about Allen? And Lyra?" Pheenie asked, already pulling out her sword, looking beautiful in her white armor. "Allen probably got them away with his wind ether." Against the surge of the crowd of fleeing citizens, Pheenie helped lead the way back towards the Guild Hall where the rest of their friends were. The flying goblins were landing on the streets now, causing chaos and setting fire to the city. Nieve grimaced, throwing her arm out to shoot a puff of wind to knock one goblin to his feet. Pheenie lunged forward with her sword, slicing cleanly through it's neck in one smooth motion. She wasn't the Sword Saint for nothing.

"Up there." Pheenie sounded confident and strong again now that she had the sword in her hands. "We can get a good view and see what's going on." Nieve nodded, liking that idea. "Alright." She raised her arms, summoning a gust of wind to knock the two girls up to the top of the belltower where they could see the whole city. Nieve panted, having used a lot of her energy to make that much wind. "Do you see them?" She asked, letting Pheenie take watch as the girls stayed safe above the chaos below.

San did not understand, where was Nieve going? Why was she leaving? San attempted to leave the wheelbarrow, but Tymol pushed down on her head, forcing her to stay down. "Come on San, remember what Nieve said? You have to be a good girl." San nodded, settling back down. "San is good girl!" She insisted, squirming. "We're going to meet Nieve and Phiphi soon, okay?" San nodded once more, going quiet to hide as Tymol placed a finger against his lips. A group of palace guards ran past them, waving swords at the dragons in the air. San growled, dragons were mean. Dragons had kept her inside of her tower all of those years. "It's okay," Tymol said softly, moving the wheelbarrow once more. He had to get San out of here before she tried to chase after a dragon.

They rounded the corner, Tymol opening up the door. San jumped out, running right towards the window so that she could look outside. "Welcome to your new home for now," Tymol gestured with an arm. San looked around, walking on all four's in a slow circle around the space. She settled on the couch, deciding that this would do. "No! No digging! Bad, no claws!" San whimpered, jumping off of the couch and darting underneath the table. "Do you want to draw?" Tymol inquired, trying to smile. San nodded, wondering what she could do to help. "Why don't we make the others a snack so that when they get back, they'll have something good to eat?" San nodded, her tail wriggling happily. "San good! San help!" Tymol pat her head, "Yes, San is very good, now let's cut up some bread."

They went into the kitchen to prepare sandwiches. San grasped her's with her mouth, running over to the window to look outside to eat. "San, down!" San got down, a group of guards running past. "We just have to lay low for a bit, okay?" San finished her sandwich and licked her fingers, jumping back onto the couch and curling up on a pillow. "Nap time?" He asked as San yawned, tired from today's adventures. Outside was hot, it was not like her Glass Tower, whose temperature was always the same. "Silly San, all tuckered out from exploring." San yawned once more, smiling to herself, her tail swishing to and fro. "I wonder what you're thinking right now," Tymol mused aloud as San fell asleep. He yelped, her body suddenly changing. None of them had seen the girl asleep, except for the enchanted half sleep that Nieve had put her in.

This was different though, resting peacefully, of her own volition, San was no longer a monster, but a little girl. She had no horns, tail, or claws. That silly fanged grin no longer bore sharp teeth. Instead, San looked almost human, save for the pair of fairy wings that had sprouted from her back. "Wow," Tymol admired, wondering however he was going to explain to Nieve and Phiphi that San was no longer a hideous, but adorable little creature, but a stunning little fairy girl.

As the guards rushed to the city's gates to protect it, goblins entered the city itself through tunnels, through magic, or even dropping in from atop the backs of dragons. The whole city was under attack. Goblins had a habit of kidnapping people to turn their body parts into more goblins for their horde, it was how they reproduced. No one knew how they did it, but it involved the corpses of their victims somehow. "What do you see, Pheenie?" Nieve asked, trying to regain her energy. She couldn't use the ether much, not like her brother, Allen, could. He was far more adept with it. There was a reason Nieve's specialty was in poisons and not ether manipulation. "It's chaos." The sword saint said, patting her sword, ready for battle. "We should try to protect places that the guards can't cover."

But if they did that, they wouldn't be able to check on the guild and confirm Adonis and everyone else's safety. Some children and and injured people and noncombatant mothers were also living at the Lamia Scale guild. Would Adonis and the guildmates be able to protect their home from the goblins this far out? "We should be protecting our friends." Nieve insisted, shaking her head. "We should be finding Allen and Lyra and making sure they come back safe." Sopheene gave Nieve a gentle smile. "We're guild members of Lamia Scale. And a part of that is to be servants of justice." Pheenie drew her blade, her mask beautiful on her face. "The more we can save, the better. We can trust our allies to survive without us." Nieve blushed, ears getting red as how cool and strong Pheenie was. While the shy Pheenie was adorable, there was something she couldn't help but be transfixed about when seeing the confident Sword Saint.

Nieve flew them back down the belltower. With the guards defending the outer perimeter and the palace soldiers at work holding the goblins back, the goblins that were able to breach the defensive line were the ones hurting and killing the civilians within. Nieve watched Pheenie at work, almost looking as if she was dancing a graceful waltz with each swing of her sword as fire burned on the blade, glowing an iridescent red. "Wait, that house..." Around the corner was a decent looking house, made of brick with modest decorations on the yard. "Guard Captain Finn Grant's house. It's door was torn open." Niece lead the way in, lunging and slicing apart the goblins inside.

There they are! Covered in blood, found them. Captain Grant's young wife and infant son, both badly wounded and prone on the wooden floor. "Alive, but barely." Nieve whispered. Pheenie nodded sternly, holding her sword out as she guarded the doorway. "Take care of them. I'll make sure no one gets in." Nieve was calm as she pulled out her medicine bag. She needed to stop the bleeding but there were so many injuries. "Pl-please..." Esme said in a ragged voice, breath almost agonal. "Help... Ricky first..." Nieve nodded, biting her lip as she washed her hands with a sterilizing agent. She had to stem the bleeding first, but seeing how much blood was already decorating the floor in stained red, it may be already too late for them both.

San's eyes suddenly snapped open. Tymol had fallen asleep, his head tilted backwards, his body giving away that he was completely relaxed. San nudged him carefully, she smelled something strange. The little monster girl scrambled over the edge of the couch and ran towards the window where a mean looking creature was hitting his club against the back door. There was a pretty garden outside, one that San would have liked to roll around in. She growled, steam coming out of her nose. The goblin caught sight of her and held up its club, grinning. San set her mouth in a line, growling at it once more. She jumped through the window, tackling the goblin, the goblin hitting her with his club. San hit the wall, seeing stars. She growled once more, swiping at it with her claws. The goblin ducked and rolled, snickering.

Her breaths came out in swift huffs, her breathing begin to cloud. The goblin's expression dropped when fire licked her tongue. With a great roar, San released a breath of fire, the goblin singed. "San!" Tymol yelled from the open window. "San, get back in here!" The goblin ran off, singed, its pride shattered. "San good!" She turned back towards Tymol, her tail wagging happily. "Yes, San is very good, but you need to come back inside before someone sees you!" San made her way back to the window, Tymol grabbed her and helped her inside, shutting the window behind her. "You shouldn't run off like that, what if we couldn't find you?" San whimpered, was she not a good girl? She had stopped the mean monster from coming inside! "It's okay, just don't run off again. We have to wait for Sopheene and Nieve to get back."

San nodded, plopping down on the floor. What was this? Why was it so soft? She ran her fingers over it, rolling around on the softness. "That's carpet," Tymol explained, joining her on the floor. "Carpet," San purred, kneading her hands in it. "Yes, carpet and that's couch." San looked at it, "couch." San jumped onto the couch, then dove onto the carpet, rolling around happily, her hair getting tangled in her horns. San giggled, hiccuping. "Hmm, I guess we should clean up a little?" Tymol mused, seeing as how the house was a mess thanks to a certain little monster flinging the stuff from the wheelbarrow everywhere. Tymol picked everything up as San began to take all of the pillows off of the couch, making a nest on the carpet. "San, I said clean." She looked up at him curiously, clean was not something she understood.

San writhed happily, it was clear she was enjoying herself. Tymol sighed, "why would any mean old King and Queen want to lock you up?" He asked, petting her head. San purred, rubbing her head against his hand, enjoying the sensation. "You're adorable, okay sure, maybe a little unconventional in the beauty department, but you're like a little, fire breathing puppy!"

For hours Nieve worked but she couldn't do it. She couldn't stop the bleeding, it wasn't enough. Stitches, cauterization, magical seals, it wasn't enough, they were too badly injured. Nieve's hands were bloody, her pretty dress stained, her eyes focused and frustrated and getting increasingly more desperate with every passing minute. Nieve always wanted to be the kind of person that could help save lives, the kind of person that could repent for the lives she stole by becoming a savior, a medical expert. So why couldn't she save the family of her friend? Why were their lives bleeding away before her very eyes? "Finn..." Esme's voice was barely audible through the blood choking her. "Where are.... you? Why can't we... hold hands like..." Nieve glanced at the dead son and decided to close its eyes, putting it's small infant arms over it's chest.

"I know it's ... you, Finn..." Esme was always blind, so she relied on Finn a lot to take care of her. There was no ether that could cure blindness but Finn loved her anyways. Nieve held her hands, hoping to pretend to be Finn long enough for her to pass. She had given both Esme and Rick the medicine to ease their passings, making them painless and quick. This wasn't the same as killing them because they were already doomed by the time they were found here. Sopheene squeezed Nieve's shoulder, shaking her head as Esme's breath stopped and Nieve closed her eyes, putting her arms over her chest as well, allowing them to die in honorable positions. "You did your best, you can't save everyone." Sopheene told her gently. Nieve shook her head, it wasn't about the failure. "This just means I'm not good enough yet. I did not learn enough from my teacher before Allen took us away from there." She failed her task. She was still better at killing than saving.

It was almost night time when Nieve and Sopheene returned to their home where San and Tymol were. To her surprise, two others were here as well. Lyra looked injured, had she taken a poisoned goblin's arrow during the battle? Allen had a few scratches but he would be okay. After Nieve spent hours at Finn Grant's home, the battle had already ended. There were several dead, but the goblins were ousted and Phosphora would survive to see another day. Sopheene pulled her mask off, setting her sword down in it's hilt and went to hug Allen. "We're home. This isn't my blood." Nieve said quickly so Allen wouldn't worry.

It seemed Tymol had taken good care of San while they were hiding here. "They came to try to find you two, but it looks like you're both okay." Tymol said with a big toothy grin. "Oh, you wouldn't believe it. When San's asleep, she's not this adorable hideous girl, but rather... a very beautiful fairy." Some sort of transformation? "Good girl, San, you did well." Nieve told her, patting her on the head, avoiding the horns. "Now, Lyra, let me look over your arrow wound." She needed to make sure it wasn't a poisoned arrow.

The door handle jiggled, Tymol hid San underneath the table, prepared to fight. Allen entered, helping Lyra inside, the red headed banshee limping. San jumped out from her hiding spot, bolting over and whimpering worriedly. "It's fine," Lyra winced, smiling despite the pain. Allen helped her to the couch. "Where's Nieve and Sopheene?" He asked in alarm, seeing as to how they had not arrived. "Don't worry, they're out helping fight, I've been here, watching San." Allen set Lyra down, the red head groaning. San jumped onto the couch, worried, "It's okay," Lyra smiled, wincing, "I'll be alright." Her hand was covering a wound, sticky with blood. Allen ran to grab a towel to push against it. "Lyra... good?" San struggled, looking at her curiously. Lyra nodded, "Yes, I'm good San, don't worry." She reached out to pat that head of blonde hair.

"San... help!" Her tail wriggled, she wanted to do something. Tymol didn't seem to understand what San had meant though. "Yeah... she breathes fire." Lyra's eyes widened, Allen too, paused. San took the towel, grabbing it in her mouth to bring to Lyra. "San help!" Lyra nodded, smiling amusedly. The door handle jiggled again, San growled, but it was only Sopheene and Nieve. The monster girl jumped off of the couch in relief, running over, whimpering worriedly when she saw all of the blood. Nieve pat her head, San following her to the couch where Lyra was sitting, uncomfortable. "I think it was probably poisoned," Lyra winced as she lifted the towel, the veins around the wound a bulbous blue. If it weren't for the poison, she wouldn't have been bleeding this much.

The cut itself wasn't all that big. "San... help! San want help!" She got a towel, bringing it to Allen. Was he injured? It didn't look like it, but what if he needed a towel? "Good girl," Allen pat her head, taking the towel. He had a few scratches, but was otherwise alright. "I'm gonna make dinner," Tymol opted, having volunteered in the Guild kitchen plenty of times. Allen lifted San up, placing her on one of the squashy armchairs. "Sit here, okay?" San nodded, watching as Nieve treated Lyra, hoping that Lyra would be okay. "Don't worry," Lyra smiled, her skin pale, no doubt from the poison. "I haven't seen any deaths today," she coughed violently, spattering blue on her clothing. That couldn't be good, San was growing antsy on the chair, she wanted to do something too!

When Lyra confirmed that yes, the wound was poisoned, Nieve's heart fluttered a little. It was a chance to redeem herself as a pharmacist and show that she really could help people! Maybe she failed Captain Grant's family, but she could at least help Lyra, right? Nieve got to work while Sopheene and Allen took each other by the hand. "I'm glad you're okay." He said, their fingers intertwining. Pheenie nodded curtly. "Same goes for me." Allen suddenly swiped her mask, revealing a blushing face. "St-stop doing that! I'm not ready for that!" Tymol glanced up at the couple as they went off and that was when he raised his hand. "So, what's with that mask? Why does she change when she wears it?" He was directing it at Nieve, since she was the only one who really knew.

"It's a long story." Nieve said with a slight frown, not sure if she wanted to get into it or not. She was trying to determine the kind of poison that was used to infect Lyra's hand. Goblins tended to choose simple poisons you could find in swamps or easily make otherwise. "With the mask on she can hide and pretend to be someone else." Nieve epxlained as she poured a drop of Lyra's blood, one drop for each of her two vials. The one on the left turned green, revealing that it was reacting to the formula. "Okay, it's albatross." The stronger of goblin poisons. Luckily, the sprite was able to handle that.

She pulled the antidote out of her backpack and handed it to Lyra. "Um, you'll need to insert it through your rectum." The little pharmacist said with a little twitch. "You, uh, might want to have some privacy. Or do you want me to help administer it?" It might be hard for some people to put a suppository in for themselves after all. San was doing her best to try to help, she was a good girl. "San take care of Lyra." Nieve decided to hire the child as her nurse to take care of Lyra. "So what happened? How did the goblins get through the defense?"

Lyra seemed to turn pale when Nieve delivered the news. "R-rectum!" She squeaked, "wh-how am I supposed to get this up there?!" Lyra seemed incredulous and who could blame her. How could a posion that had gotten her in the hand be cured through something that went up the butt?! Lyra squirmed, seeming highly uncomfortable. For a battle hardened banshee, she sure was blushing a lot. "I-I think I-I'll ne-need help," Lyra admitted, she would have hidden behind her hands if she could, but that wasn't possible at the moment. She rose on shaky legs, feeling light headed, her knees gave and she fell forward. San came over to investigate and help of course, or at least try to. Take care of Lyar? The monster girl didn't quite understand. She nudged Lyra with her head and managed to drag the banshee back onto the couch, who was sweating and pale.

San whimpered, Lyra was holding the phial Nieve had handed her, but she seemed incapable of doing such a thing on her own. "I don't think San can do it," Tymol shook his head, having overheard of course. "She seems better at breaking than fixing things," he pat her head, holding out a spoon. San opened up her mouth, allowing Tymol to deliver the food to it. It tasted good, she thought, yummy. "San help!" She could do it! She didn't know how, but she knew that she wanted to. Her tail swished to and fro, looking up at Nieve to try and determine how she could be of use. It was a little hard when Nieve was speaking in tongues, of course. "San is... good girl!" She determined on her own.

Lyra winced, it was hard to speak. "They were expecting us, they overwhelmed us before we could even pull out our swords." Allen nodded, "a few of us were injured, but thankfully no one died." Lyra had been stupid, that was how she had aquired such a wound. "I stopped an arrow with my hand," she admitted, "thankfully it didn't go through my hand completely, but it still hurts a lot." She winced, San nuzzled Lyra with her head. "San, I'm gonna use you as support, let's... go to the bathroom." San nodded, allowing Lyra to lean against her, "Nieve, come help." Lyra squeaked, mortified that she would need assistance in doing such a thing. San helped Lyra to the bathtub, where she sat on the lip, then was promptly shooed out.

The monster girl waited, sitting eagerly on the floor for when she could be called to help again. She liked being useful, she liked being fed and getting headpats and being told that she was a good girl. It seemed that the monster child really was similar to an animal.

Of course, it was a phial but inside it was a hardened liquid that had been compressed into a solid almost oval shape that gleamed an odd orange. Lyra was very much being reluctant to have it inserted inside of her but this was the best way to cleanse the poison that the goblins had administered. "I could use the easy method and give you a localized ointment." Nieve offered with a little smile. "Side effects being a failed cleanse of the poison and suddenly you're permanently paralyzed from the legs down because they attacked your nerves?" Obviously if the rectal insert was not the least invasive way to cleanse the body of albatross, then Nieve would not choose it.

Lyra still didn't seem happy, but at least she understood the stakes. Tymol decided to respectfully go into a corner and practice his whistling skills, which admittedly, weren't bad at all. San was asked to help and the little puppy girl was more than happy to be of service. "Oh, guys!" Tymol was suddenly reminded of something potentially important. "Before you guys came back, San took a nap!" The little thief looked really excited for some reason. "Okay?" Nieve was a little confused as to what Tymol was trying to get at here. "She changed and looked like a little fairy. Wait until she falls asleep and then I'll show you guys." The pharmacist girl was a little dubious but there was no reason not to believe it. "Okay."

Nieve, San, and Lyra made their way to the bathroom for the administration of the antidote. They had to be quick or the poison could hurt the internal organs like the kidneys or liver in particular. It might have been a few hours already, it was surprising Lyra was still on her feet now. "I'm glad you and Allen both made it out." San scurried out of the bathroom then so Nieve could do her duties. "Okay. It'll likely feel a little weird as it dissolves in you, but this is for the best." Nieve was quick and methodical about it as she inserted the white oval. "It'll only take a few minutes. Does it hurt?" She turned around then to allow Lyra to make herself modest again. "Side effects include, potentially, a little light headedness and strange dreams. I suggest you take tomorrow off just in case."

Tymol peered around the corner to spot San sitting, waiting patiently for the other girls to finish with medical stuff. He sat down next to her and ruffled her hair, having grown fond of her. "See, this is what girls should be. Cute and friendly." He said, shivering a little as he remembered how Nieve was when she first joined the guild. "Nieve should learn a little from you! She's so serious all the time and way too intense. It's a little bit scary." He was intimidated by her, but someone like San was much easier to get along with.

pursed her lips, an odd squeak, almost an adorable one, coming from her lips as Nieve pushed the supposatory between her second set of cheeks. She whimpered, it felt like a tight squeeze, even if the capsule was rather small and there was nothing to push it in easier. Once it was in though, Lyra could begin to feel it dissolve and uncomfortably pulled her panties back up. She squirmed as the capsule turned into nothing and Nieve spoke of side affects. "Yes, I think I deserve a day off after all of this." Thankfully, Adonus was of the generous sort and since Guild Members were technically contractors working under one roof, they could take off as much time as they needed if they felt they should. Especially when you went on one intense quest after another.

"Do you think what Tymol said is true?" Lyra inquired, figuring it was better to stand and clench then sit down and spread out. Already she could feel the lightheadedness getting to her, or perhaps that was merely the power of suggestion. She did feel some sort of relief though, whether it was real or mental, Lyra did not know. "About San I mean..." she trailed off. Something about Nieve had always seemed familiar, but fey folk always had some sort of resemblance. Nieve could be anyone that Lyra was mistaking her for. "When I lived in the Fey Realm, I'd seen all sorts of crazy things. I grew up with rumors of the Glass Tower, that it held reaches beyond your wildest dreams and jewels so shiny they could blind you."

Obviously that had merely been rumored, what they had found was much, much more precious than any gem or money. A life, after all, was worth more than you could weigh. If Lyra had to make that decision again, she definitely would. If it was Nieve inside of that tower, which Lyra found just as adorable, if not a bit cold, then she would make that decision over again. She would free Nieve, or Allen, or Sopheene, or even Tymol. "Say... I know you joined the Guild, but is it something you really wanted to do? Or are you just doing it to make Allen and Sopheene happy?" Lyra inquited, "I think everyone who joined kind of felt out of place... we all have this dream, you know? Tymol wants to open up a jewelry store. Although whether he'll get the jewels fairly or not is beyond me."

San squirmed, waiting in the hallway, sitting on the floor. Tymol joined her, patting her head. San looked up and beamed, the happiest little pupper if there ever was one. Cute? What was cute? San hoped it was the same as good, she liked being good. If she was good, then she could make friends! San had never been bad though, at least, not that she could recall. She scratched behind her ear with her foot, smiling up at Tymol with her adorable fanged grin. "Nieve... good! Nieve... friend!" San said decisively, certain that the grouchy elf was friendly on the inside.

❝Once upon a time, I fell in love.❞

Well, Lyra had a medical reason to take some leave off it seemed. That was good - Lyra was one of the types that would work themselves to death if they lost track of time. Though that wasn't to say Nieve was particularly better or anything. She too, worked herself a bit too hard, though, to be fair, she had a reason for it. Not many workaholics tended to have one. "Just take it easy for a day. Two, if the side effects are particularly bad." Adonis was a good Guildmaster, he wouldn't pry and need more than a simple reason. Sadly they couldn't just go and check on the guild right now as the inspection was going on. They would need to remain here with San, at least for now.

Speaking of San, didn't Tymol say something odd about her earlier? Lyra had made herself modest once again, and luckily for her Nieve made the oath so she was not thinking anything in particular upon seeing Lyra's exposed behind. It was simply the body part of a patient, nothing more, nothing less. "Perhaps. He's not the type to lie about something like this." Tymol might be a bit or a prankster, but he wasn't a liar. "We'll have to observe her and see what she looks like while asleep." Furthermore they were going to have to eventually find out what kind of ether San had control over. All fae folk had something, even if some were stronger than others. Lyra and Allen seemed to have good control of the ether, while Nieve's control was considerably less powerful.

Then suddenly Lyra asked her yet another question, something a bit more serious. "Do I..." She paused, figuring it would be good to answer this question seriously. She never really thought about what she wanted to do before. "I never really considered it before." Though for now Nieve couldn't imagine just leaving the guild. Sopheene was here... and when she wasn't the Sword Saint, she could be pretty silly. She needed someone like Nieve to look after her and make sure she didn't put herself in danger. "I wonder what your dream is, Lyra." Did the banshee feel like sharing?

After leaving the bathroom and grouping back together with everyone, Nieve decided to go out and say it. Allen and Sopheene were back too, having finished their makeout session. The wind sprite did not really feel like thinking too much about what her brother and his intended do behind closed doors. "So Guard Captain Finn Grant's whole family is dead now." He always had been a nice person, chatting to them whenever he had a chance. "I couldn't save his wife and young son." Should she tell him about their last moments? Would something like that breka the man to find out? "He might already have found out." Allen's voice was weary. No doubt he was imagining losing his own family to the goblins. Pheenie was all sympathy, because her family was burned alive as the family farm was lit aflame.

Lyra nodded in understanding, she would have to take it easy, Doctor Nieve's orders. It was a relief when it finally dissolved and she no longer had to clench. Lyra rose, no longer as dizzy, which was a relief. She smiled when Nieve asked her what her dream was, winking. "To find my Master," she looked up at the ceiling, as though in thought. "She disappeared a while ago, so I joined the Guild to look for her, but instead, I found a family." She opened the door to the bathroom so that they could rejoin the others. Her heart stopped in her throat when Nieve announced that Captain Finn's family had died. Lyra gasped, she had not seen them today. She had not seen their deaths. "Excuse me, I'll be outside," death was sometimes unpredictable.

San was hungry, she wanted to eat, but everyone else was just talking. "Hungry," San's tail swished, she rubbed her head against Phiphi's leg, hoping that she would feed her. "San hungry," the little monster girl whined, jumping onto the couch. "Dinner's ready!" Tymol called from the dining room. San jumped off of the couch, clearly eager to eat. San didn't want to eat without the others though, she whimpered, waiting for them all to come, shifting uneasily until they had each arrived at the table. "Take it easy there," Tymol pat her head, careful of her horns. "You'll eat once everyone is here." He assured San, who squirmed. "Sorry for just taking over your kitchen," Tymol apologized to Allen, "but I figured after a long battle, you guys need to just eat and rest." The only battle Tymol had faced today was wrangling in the shortstack.

San's eyes lit up when a plate was placed in front of her. "Turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots." Lyra pointed to each thing, San taking it all in. "Turkey... mash potato... carrots!" San picked up her fork and dug in, eating to her heart's content. She swung her legs underneath the table, her nails having been clipped by Adonis so that she didn't accidentally scratch anyone with her claw like digits. When she was done, she attempted to help clean up, but merely ended up licking the plates clean before going back to the wheelbarrow parked by the door that had her things in it. San picked up the teddy bear and brought it over to the couch, feeling tired from a long day of playing and helping.

She settled onto one of the cushions, pulling a blanket over herself. She yawned and stretched, then curled up into a ball and began to drift off to sleep. The change was slow, at first, then all at once. From her back sprouted fairy wings and her horns and odd markings disappeared. San's long teeth receeded, her fingers and toes no longer looking as though they were dipped in red paint. By all means, the little monster girl no longer looked like a freak of nature, but a peaceful fairy child.
