a character in “Trials of Two Elements”, as played by elidor495

Description

Who am I?
"I am me and nothing will ever change that."

Name:: Donovan Strider

Nickname:: He likes his last name more than he likes his first, so he prefers people call him Strider.

Age:: 17

Gender:: Male

Height:: 5' 9"

Weight:: 140lbs

Picture::
Image

Details:: Donovan has light brown hair that never seems to do what he wants it to and blue-gray eyes. He's got really white skin that never tans, just burns, in the sunlight. When he smiles he gets dimples, which he hates. He's one of those people who can eat whatever they want and not gain weight, so he always has a thin build. He always wear denim shorts and various colored tank tops, no matter what the weather is. He has a scar on his right shoulder from where a dog bit him.

Theme song:: Fight by Icon For Hire

My mind
"The only thing you have control over is your mind. Don't lose it."

Personality:: Donovan is a fighter, always has been always will be. He won't go down without a fight. He also never gives up, even in hopeless situations. He's incredibly stubborn, when he sets his mind to something, nothing can stop him. He likes giving compliments to girls, but doesn't have much interest in romance, he's waiting for that special someone. He has lots of confidence, but isn't arrogant. He's a bit quiet, preferring to listen then to talk, but won't ignore someone if they talk to him first. He hates authority and people telling him what he can or can't be. He's independent and will hide his pain or weakness from others. He's doesn't mind helping others though, if they ask for it. But he won't stick his nose into other people's business. He's untamable, nothing will make his submit to people.

Likes:: Winter, fruit, video games, music, being outside.

Dislikes:: Summer, spicy foods, the sun, his powers, scientists.

Hobbies:: Playing video games, reading Japanese comics, swimming.

Fears:: That he'll accidentally set someone on fire again, needles, dogs.

Skills
"You think controlling fire is awesome? Well think again."

Powers:: Donovan can control fire almost perfectly. Whether it be pre-existing flame or one he creates. His body is immune to fire, it can't hurt him. The more he uses it at a time, the higher his body temperature gets. He heals from injuries very quickly. If its a cut or a stab depending on how deep it is it will heal somewhere between thirty seconds to a minute. Broken bones heal within twenty four hours. Twists, sprains, swollen joints, things like that, take about ten minutes.

Drawbacks:: His normal body temperature is higher than a normal person's, at about 103 and it will keep getting higher the more he uses his powers, so he always feels like he has a fever. In summer it gets really bad. He's prone to getting lightheaded or even blacking out if he gets too hot. His healing has no effect on drugs, something the scientists use often to keep him tame, so he still feels their full effect.

Talents/Skills:: Quick learner, natural cook, street smart, high pain tolerance.

Other
"Bleagh, random details."

History:: Donovan spent a lot of his early life in the hospital. Because doctors were trying to figure out why his temperature was always so high. Eventually they decided that is was his natural temperature, but didn't know why, and he could go home. He had to go back once a week to make sure it didn't get any higher though. It wasn't until he was eight that he discovered that he could control fire. When he got really mad at his older sister (Age 12 at the time) and accidentally set her hair on fire. His parents, being the amazing people they are, completely accepted this and tried to make him as comfortable as possible. Even his sister accepted it and would do things like stick ice down his shirt if they were at a party during summer, to make sure he didn't get overheated. Slowly over the years he learned how to control his fire better. The only other time it got out of control was when a dog attacked and bit him, when he was twelve.

How he got found out:: His sister's fiance found out about Donovan's powers and called the scientists. They broke into his house at night. Of course he fought back to protect his family, but was drugged and taken away.

His cell:: Donovan's cell is basically a walk in freezer with a bed. It has to be because of how hot he gets during experiments. If it wasn't, he'd probably die, and they kind of need him.

So begins...

Emily awoke slowly, the effects of the drugs that were always given to her at night to reduce dreaming. Sighing, she looked around her room, or better put, her jail cell. She had a cot that was incredibly uncomfortable to sleep in, a sink in the corner, and a desk in the other corner. The desk had a sketchpad and some art pencils on it. The scientists may be cruel, but if you behaved well they gave you privileges. Emily's privilege was being able to continue her art. Oh, how she loved to sketch. Smiling, she walked groggily over to the desk, shaking off the last effects of the drug. Opening her sketchpad, she flipped through her more recent drawings. Most were just designs, since she didn't really have much to draw around here. Flipping to an empty page, she took a pencil and scrawled out a note.

Experiments today, you ready?

She folded the note in her palm and walked to the airtight door, peering through the small glass window. Knocking, she yelled out, "Hey! Can someone let me out? I need to pee!" She stepped back as one of the lab attendants opened the door with a scowl. "You know the rules, Ms. Heart. No bathroom breaks until nine o'clock." She rocked on her heels and put on her best pleading face. "I know, I know, but what can I say? I'm a girl! Sometimes I just gotta go!" She smiled hopefully, putting as much sincerity into her expression. The attendant sighed and opened the door further. "Very well. But not long." Emily smiled again and walked out the door, being careful to stay as close to the wall as possible. When she approached Strider's cell, the other poor soul who was being held captain here, she pretended to trip and shoved the note underneath the crack in the door. "Oops! Sorry, I'm so clumsy!" She said cheekily, and whistled all the way to the bathroom.

Donovan was laying on the floor of his cell, he had been too hot to lay on his poor excuse of a bed the night before. He woke up very, very, slowly because of the drugs used to keep him weak. To keep him tame. He forced his unresponsive body into a sitting position just in time to see a note slipped under his door. Atleast, he thought it was a note, his eyes were still blurry so he couldn't quite tell. Donovan got to his feet and stumbled over to the door. He flopped back down and picked up the note. On it was some familiar hand writing. Experiments today, you ready? Is what it said. Donovan smiled, one of the few things keeping him sane was Emily, the girl next door. Donovan chuckled at that thought and sliced open his thumb with the edge of the paper.

He wasn't as well behaved as Emily was, so he didn't get paper or pencils. Or pretty much anything. So he had to write with his own blood. It wasn't too bad though, he did heal quickly. Always. He wrote in slightly shaky handwriting. He slipped the paper back under the door, knowing the guards wouldn't see it. They never looked down.

Emily saw the note on her way back from the bathroom. She hadn't really needed to go. They didn't give her enough fluid to make her ever have to go to the restroom, or even enough food. Since she'd been there, she had noticed her body thinning out. The last time they had weighed her she had been 90lbs. When they first snatched her, she had weighed around 117lbs. She'd always wanted to lose weight, but not that much weight.

Reaching down as if to stretch, she grabbed the note and kept on walking. The guards didn't notice, they never did. "Hold on, Ms. Heart!" Emily halted, recognizing the tone of Chief Medical Examiner Elise--or as Strider and Emily called her, Lizard, because her eyes were cold, hard, and reptilian. "Yes?" Emily asked without turning around. "We've decided to have you and Mr. Strider gather for a paired experiment. Please follow Dr. Addams to the East Laboratory." Lizard turned and headed toward Strider's cell. "Mr. Strider! Wake up!" Lizard banged on the door with her fist. Poor Strider...They don't trust him as much as they trust me...

"This way, Ms. Heart." Dr. Addams led her down the hallway. She glanced back at Strider's cell with worried eyes. What kind of paired experiment were they talking about?

"Mr. Strider! Wake up!" Donovan recognized the voice as Lizard. He stood up again, leaning heavily against the doorway, so they could see his head through the small window. "Sup?" He said in that tone he knew Lizard hated. Lizard looked angry, but not too mad... Yet. "Today we've decided to pair you up with Ms. Heart for a joint experiment." Lizard said. Donovan smirked, "Sorry I don't hit girls." Lizard narrowed her eyes. Then why did you hit me last week?" Donovan didn't say anything, just looked at her. He could literally see the smoke coming out of her ears.

A guard opened the door to his cell and roughly grabbed his arm. There was no need to drug him again, he was still loopy from the previous round. The guard half dragged, half led, Donovan toward the East Lab. It didn't take them long to catch up to Emily and Dr. Addams. "Good morning Emily, you're pretty as always. Is that a new bruise? What a lovely shade of purple." he said, knowing the guard and Dr. Addams would hate them talking to each other.

As Emily walked with Dr. Addams, Strider caught up to them. He looked extremely sluggish, and Emily felt a pang of sympathy for him. They always gave him stronger drugs than her to keep him more subdued. "Good morning Emily, you're pretty as always. Is that a new bruise? What a lovely shade of purple." Emily smirked and returned his look with a sly glance. "You think so? I think it clashes too much with my eyes." She giggled and batted her eyelashes dramatically at him. "Hey! You two keep quiet or experiments today will be particularly...unpleasant..." Lizard scolded and Emily straightened her expression and kept walking.

When they got to the East Lab, Dr. Addams opened the door and motioned for them to enter. She did, seeing a room full of science equiptment and othe nasty items that probably caused pain. Emily looked at Strider with fear. What did they have planned for them today?

"You think so? I think it clashes too much with my eyes." Emily bat her eyelashes dramatically at Donovan. "Hey! You two keep quiet or experiments today will be particularly...unpleasant..." Donovan just rolled his eyes, "Threats do nothing against me. I thought you would have learned that by now."

They arrived at the East Lab and Dr. Addams motioned for them to go inside. Emily went inside and Donovan was shoved in after her. He looked around, there was plenty of nasty stuff for experimenting with. Dr. Addams picked up a needle from a nearby table and went over to Donovan. It was his usual before the experiment drugs. But these weren't made to make him weak, they were to lower his body temperature so he didn't overheat during the session. He also got one afterward. These were the only drugs he took willingly, because they made him feel better than he usually did. He stood there quietly as Dr. Addams injected it into him. "So what's first? Blood draws? Endurance test? Seeing how fast we heal with certain unjuries? Oh, how about if I can produce flame underwater, swimming sounds good right now."

"So what's first? Blood draws? Endurance test? Seeing how fast we heal with certain unjuries? Oh, how about if I can produce flame underwater, swimming sounds good right now." Emily shook her head as Strider joked. How he got the courage to stand up to these people, she didn't know. "Actually, Mr. Strider, today's experiment will be the clashing of both your elements. Go to opposite ends of the wall and face each other." Emily cocked her head confusedly, but she followed directions and went to the wall opposite of Strider.

"On the count of the three, you both are going to project your element at full force towards eachother." Emily was taken aback. Not only was that extremely dangerous, but she didn't even think it could work. "Um, I don't mean to contradict you, Liz--I mean, Dr. Elise," she said in her politest tone, "but doesn't water put out fire? How will this even work?" Lizard smiled approvingly at Emily. "Very good, Ms. Heart. You are right, water does generally put out fire. But, considering the fact that both of your elements are, for lack of a better term, made from magic, our hypothesis is if you both pit your elements against eachother at full force, then they will collide the middle and eventually one will overcome the other, and we can see who is the stronger of the two." Emily's eyes widened as she got her meaning.

Strider was, by far, the stronger of the two, and Emily knew it. Plus, if by some miracle Emily was stronger, she really did not want to hurt Strider in any way. Emily made the decision silently in her mind. Instead of full force, she would only put hers out at half force, to be sure that Strider would win, and she wouldn't hurt him. Her injuries would hurt, but they would heal. They always did.

Donovan listened to Lizard and Emily talk, shaking his head the whole time. He didn't move from his spot. If he won, she'd get burned, if she won, he'd get wet. So he refused, he'd get punished but Emily would be okay. He couldn't just let her win either, they'd just experiment on her more. Also if he used his powers full force, his temperature would spike, even with the drugs. He decided he would match his strength with her, then strengthen it just enough to break through her water, and stop it right before it hit her. That way, everyone would happy. Except Lizard who was never happy. And he would be the one experimented on more.

Donovan moved to the wall opposite of Emily and locked eyes with her. He mouthed the words, "Trust me." to her in hopes that she could read lips.

Emily saw Strider mouth the words, and she shook her head. "I got this." She mouthed back. She got into place and put her hands up, ready to project the water at half force to Strider. "On the count of three. One...Two...Three!"

Emily felt the power rise and she projected it out from her hands. The long stream of water hit Strider's fire, and it defied the laws of science by fighting against eachother, not turning the fire into smoke. She felt the push of the fire fighting against her water, and she was surprised. If her plan had worked correctly, Strider would have been able to beat her water magic immediately. Which could only mean one thing. He was matching her force, in an effort to spare her.

She shook her head, trying to motion to Strider that it was okay if he hit her. He knew her injuries would heal in at the very most an hour. "I said FULL FORCE! Stop fooling around and DO IT!" Lizard screeched. For the first time, Emily stood up to the authority. She dropped her power level to an eighth of full force, letting Strider's flame lick her palms, before dropping her water all together, letting Strider completely win.

Donovan frowned as Emily mouthed something back to him. "On the count of three. One...Two...Three!" His arms shot up sending a bolt of fire at Emily's stream of water. As soon as they touched he dropped back on power to match hers. He was surprised to find how weak it was, and guessed she was holding back. "I said FULL FORCE! Stop fooling around and DO IT!" She dropped her power level so it was even weaker, so his flames got rather close her hands. Then she stopped completely. Donovan dropped his hands a split second after she did, so she didn't get hurt at all. "What are you doing! Either behave or get punished!" Donovan shot a death glare at Lizard. "Then do it. I dare you." He wiped some of the sweat off his forehead. His body temperature had risen because he used his powers, but not enough to be dangerous.

Emily felt Strider drop his flame right after and dropped her water. She was almost relieved. As much as she didn't want to hurt Strider, it's not like she was begging to get burned either. "What are you doing! Either behave or get punished!" Emily looked to Lizard's angry face and stepped back a little in fear. The woman had a thunderstorm on her face, she could tell that Lizard was intensely pissed at the both of them. "Then do it. I dare you." Emily shook her head at Strider, willing him not to further piss off Lizard, for his own safety. Stepping forward, she decided to take the blame and save him. He already had it hard enough as it was, and they always went easier on her then him.

"I'm sorry, Dr. Elise. It was completely my fault. I was afraid of hurting Strider, so I didn't put it to my full potential. Strider was perfectly correct in his actions, and I could feel that he was using his full power. It was entirely my fault, I'm sorry." Emily bowed her head for effect, and heard Lizard let out a cool breath. "Ms. Heart, by doing so, you jeopardized the experiment, and gave us false results. Who is to tell which of you is stronger if you won't even go to your full potential? As punishment for your actions, you will be in the simulation room on level 20 for an extra two hours today. Follow Dr. Addams, please, Ms. Heart." Emily solemnly walked behind Dr. Addams towards the simulation room. She gave Strider a glance of sympathy, knowing there would be hell for him to pay as well.

The simulation room was a room designed to test their powers by shooting the opposite elements in all directions at the experimentee and they would have to use their given element to stop each attack. In Emily's case, they were using fire to attack her. Level 20 was the highest level of the program, and that meant Emily was in for some serious damage. "All set, Ms. Heart?" "Ready as I'll ever be." She took a deep breath, and braced her self for the onslaught.

It was a rather obvious lie, atleast to him. "Ms. Heart, by doing so, you jeopardized the experiment, and gave us false results. As punishment you will be in the simulation room for one hour. Donovan snorted, "You're kidding right?" Lizard's face went dark. But we will not be giving you your normal injection before or after." For once in his life, Donovan was quiet. Lizard motioned for the guards to take him back to his cell. All Donovan could do was wait and hope he could take it.

The first attack of fire came from her left, it was easy to deflect, and she wasn't even breathing hard. Then from the right, and above, and behind. Suddenly, instead of single attacks, it was double, then triple. She got a burn to her right shoulder, to her hip, to her spine, and on her ankle. She tried to use water to deflect it but she could only hit two at a time. Fire was coming from all angles, she was losing strength quickly.

Water magic was easily far less dangerous than fire magic. Strider got overheated easily, and sometimes faced death because they worked him too hard. Water magic wasn't hot, so she didn't overheat, and it wasn't particularly cold either, so her temperature mainly stayed neutral. But, when she did work too hard, she got very tired, and her energy supply diminished. "Injuries" from her own magic didn't heal quickly, and she would no doubt be exhausted for the next few days.

The flame attacks were coming from all angles now, and Emily was getting burned all over. She was getting fed up, and her power was diminishing. Suddenly, she stopped attacking all together, and let her arms drop as fire came at her harder than ever. "What the hell are you doing?! Fight!" She heard one of the doctors yell. She opened her eyes, which were no doubt shining a bright, icy, blue, and pulled together all of the emotions she'd had since being taken to this disgusting facility. She felt the power rising within her, and she projected it out from every corner of her body. An immense tidal wave erupted in that room, filling the engines and getting rid of the fire once and for all. She heard the doors open with a bang, but she couldn't see anything through her blurred vision, and she stumbled forward. Briefly, she heard the doctors saying things like, "She broke it!" and "Did you see that level of power?" The last conscious bits of her mind formed the thought, if I broke it, does that mean no more attacking us?

It was then that she collapsed to the floor, completely exhausted.

Donovan anxiously paced back and forth in his cell, waiting for Emily to return. He heard footsteps and peeked out the tiny window. It was Lizard and behind her two guards were dragging an exhausted Emily. She looked pretty messed up, Donovan hoped she'd be okay. There's been a slight change in plans for your punishment. Lizard said, adressing Donovan. Unfortunately the simulation room is temporarily unusable, but we had a second one built for such times. That one only goes up to level 10 though so instead of one hour, it will be two." The guards put Emily back in her cell, then opened Donovan's cell and grabbed him. They took him to the second simulation room, where Dr. Addams was waiting.

Donovan was shoved inside the chamber, it was a little smaller than the normal one, but that only helped Donovan. Dr. Addams pressed the button and hell began. Donovan closed his eyes and let his fire engulf him, as a sort of protective shield. The water stood no chance against his power fire magic.

An hour and a half in, Donovan collapsed. Dr. Addams immediatly stopped the simulation. Donovan's skin felt like it was on fire, well it just had been, but since his body was immune to fire it meant that he was way overheated. He was still semi conscious, but he was too feverish to react to anything. The last thing he remembered was Dr. Addams worried face, then everything went black.

Emily groaned and tried to sit up, but a hand pushed her down gently. "Just stay down for now. Drink this." She was handed a cup of water by a voice she didn't recognize, and gulped it down all at once. She hadn't even realized how thirsty she was. She opened her eyes completely and looked into the face of a young man with sandy brown hair and green eyes. "Do I know you?" She asked, her voice hoarse from exhaustion. "Probably not. I just got signed on to this project today. My name is Dr. Martin, but you're welcome to call me Max. I'm assuming you aren't treated as equals here, so I figured I'd be the first to do so. Is it alright if I call you Emily?" She gave a half smile and nodded. Then an alarmed expression crossed her face and she sat up immediately. She started coughing but still tried to get her sentence out between coughs. "Donovan. Where's Donovan?" She was coughing, and Max shoved another glass of water in front of her face and helped her guzzle it down. "Donovan is fine. Exhausted, but fine. He overheated in simulation, but he's recovering right now. Lay back down, you're not recharged enough yet." He gently pushed her back down and she closed her eyes again.

"Just make sure he's okay, please?" She asked before falling back into the abyss of sleep.

The first thing Donovan felt was fire. He very slowly opened his eyes and found that he was in his cell. Someone atleast had the brains to leaving him on the floor instead of putting him on his bed. He couldn't even feel the cold from his cell, only the heat radiating from his own body. Through the feverish fog, Donovan heard his cell open. Moments later he saw a very blurry pair of green eyes. He focused enough to see that it was a man with brown hair. Hello Donovan, my name is Max. I'm going to take care of you." his voice sounded far away, even though he was right there. "Strider." Donovan managed to stay. "Pardon?" Donovan could feel that this Max person was doing something with his arm, but didn't have the strength to resist. "Call me Strider." Donovan repeated. There was a familiar poke on Donovan's arm, Max had given him some kind of injection. "What-" Max cut him off, "Save your strength. It was just your normal injection, plus half a second one. I didn't know if a full two would be too much. Just go to sleep, you'll feel a lot better when you wake up."

Donovan could feel his body shutting down, but managed to get one last thing out. "Emily?" He didn't hear Max's response, for he had let the darkness consume him.

Emily felt someone shaking her shoulder, but it was gentle, not the usual harshness of the other guards. "Emily, wake up." She slowly opened her eyes and look into the face of Max. "Hmm?" Her brain hadn't turned on enough for her to make an actual response. "I just checked on Strider--" She grabbed the wrist that was on her shoulder suddenly and looked him in the eye with radiant concern. "Is he okay? How badly did they hurt him?" She let out another cough and pulled in a shaky breath. I guess this is what happens when there's hardly any water left inside me...

"They didn't give him the injections he needed to stop from overheating, so he wasn't in the greatest shape. Kind of like you, right now." She bit her lip and looked at him pleadingly, "Can you take me to him, please? I know something that would really help him." It took a second for Max to realize what she was implying but when he did, he started to adamantly shake his head. "No, no way. You are in no way ready to use magic again, and I already gave him the injection--" "It won't be enough! Not if he didn't have one before the experiment, too. Even then, that's usually not enough. Please, I feel well enough for this. Please, Max." Max sighed and rubbed his hand across his forehead. "I'm so going to regret this. Alright, let's go." Emily let out a happy noise as Max helped her out of bed.

They walked over to Strider's room slowly, and Emily was ashamed that she was now moving like an old woman. Max unlocked Strider's cell and she went inside. The first thing she noticed was the below freezing temperature, but from looks of Strider, he couldn't feel it. He was laying there in the middle of the floor, with bright red cheeks and sweating profusely. "Oh god, what did they do to you?" She whispered as she knelt down besides him and placed a hand on his chest and another on the side of his neck. Focusing deep within her, she pulled forward the remnants of magic that had replenished and forced them through her hands on into his overheated body, letting the cool water soothe his muscles and cool down his temperature to just above his normal temp, which was the best she could manage. When she felt his body regulate, she took her hands away and opened her eyes. She tried to stand, but almost collapsed before Max managed to catch her.

"Thanks. I hope that helps him." "It will." was the last thing she heard before the darkness of sleep consumed her once again.

Hands on his chest and neck woke Donovan up, but not enough for him to do anything, just feel what was going on. A sudden soothing cool made his eyes flicker, but not open. This continued until his temperature was almost back to normal, then it stopped. The cold from the cell could do the rest, in time. He thought he heard voices, but was already going back to sleep so he didn't know for sure.

Some time later Donovan awakened, still worn out but feeling much better. He heard voices outside his cell, they sounded like they were arguing. One was obviously Lizard's but the other he didn't know. Not quite ready to move yet, he decided to lay still and listen to the argument. "...Both of them almost died! I understand that you want them to behave, but treating them like animals isn't the solution. Maybe if you treated them like people, gave them actual rooms instead of cells. Then they would behave better." The unfamiliar voioce argued. "Dr. Davis, you are new here so I'll cut you some slack, this time. But those two aren't humans. No human can do the things they do. We are treating as they deserve." Lizard said as a matter of factly. There was the sound of angry footsteps as this Dr. Davis walked away. Lizard's face appeared at Donovan's window so he shut his eyes again, making appear that he was still asleep. He didn't want her to know that he was awake yet.

Emily opened her eyes slowly, barely catching the last bit of conversation between Lizard and Dr. Davis. She turned her head to the side to see a tall glass of water and a note. The note read Keep drinking water to replenish your strength and your magic She sat up a little and quickly downed the glass, wanting more. Slowly but steadily, she walked over to the sink in the corner of the room and downed three more glasses, sinking to the floor against the wall when she was done.

She was horribly exhausted, but at least she could stay somewhat awake. It would take many long days and nights for her to completely replenish her strength. The door to her cell opened suddenly and she looked up to see Lizard standing in her doorway. "Ms. Heart. I'm glad to see you're awake. We need to discuss what happened in the simulation room." Lizard sat on the cot, staring down at Emily with hard eyes. "You called forth so much power that you broke our equiptment. How were you able to do that? None of our other experiments predicted you having that much potential." Somewhere deep down, Emily was proud that she was that strong. But it was deep down. She would have preferred the doctors to think she was still weak, then they wouldn't do so many experiments. "I don't really know how to explain it," she said in a hoarse voice, "I just felt a lot of emotion and projected that into my power." Lizard narrowed her eyes. "That was all you needed to do? Put some emotion in and voila?" Emily nodded, and Lizard stood. "Alright, well. That is all." She started to leave, but Emily called her back. "Wait! Is Strider alright?" Lizard turned and looked at her with suspicious eyes. "Yes, he is. In fact, he's healed remarkeably well, even for him. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?" Emily worked hard to put on her poker face and shook her head. "How could I? I just woke up." She paused, holding her breath and waiting for Lizard to call her bluff, but to her surprise Lizard believed her. "Very well. Get rest. Experiments resume in the morning." And with that, Lizard stormed out and Emily let out a relieved sigh. Drinking another glass of water, she wondered how Strider was actually doing, and if her magic had helped him in any way.

For a while Donovan just relaxed on the floor, too tired to do anything else. His body temperature had returned to normal, but he was still worn out from using his powers non stop for so long. After a while he sat up and leaned against the wall. Because he wasn't the most well behaved person, they didn't give him anything. So naturally he had nothing to do. He just stared at the wall and thought. That thinking made him realized something.

Donovan waited until the guards had left for the night. Then, knowing that Emily's cell was just on the otherside of his, knocked on the wall. "Hey, Emily, can you hear me?" he said loud enough that she would be able to hear. "Was that you who almost regulated my body temperature?" He guessed as much, she was the only one in here that actually cared about him. And vice versa. But wanted to hear it from her own mouth.
