"Preacher, don't the bible have some pretty specific things to say about killin'?" "Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."
Nick is pretty simply, a paradox. He is a priest, however he's spent the greater part of his life training to be an assassin under a priest he looked up to. He hardly ever feels any remorse for killing, especially when it's to protect the innocent. He and Vash have some minor disagreements on this matter, which is somewhat ironic due to their occupations. He particularly looks out for kids, making sure that none ever suffer like he did, and his primary objective has always been to make money for his orphanage. He has also only recently, at least to him, after waking from a coma, and finally recovering his memories, realized his love for Milly, and hopes to spend his life with her by his side, still taking care of the children at the orphanage. Nothing can get in his way.
Aside from a handgun, he is currently carrying nothing else on his person, until after he retrieves his Cross, Punisher, which looks like a massive cross, especially when it's all bundled up, but is really a weapon. The bottom and longest stem serves as a heavy duty machine gun, and the reverse side serves as a rocket launcher. Both of the 'arm' parts of the cross conceal six handguns and plenty of ammunition.
After Chapel, Nick's old mentor, is forced to shoot him, Nick stumbled into the church, and then lay in front of the altar, gasping for breath. He didn't want to give up on the fight now, but he knew he was finished. Milly flashed through his mind, he knew he loved her, and now he regretted that he wouldn't ever see her again or be there for her. As he faded out of consciousness, a priest found him, and then took him away, slowly nursing him back to health. After a month-long coma, he woke up, but couldn't remember a thing of what had happened before. After six months, his memories returned, his head filled with thoughts of Milly and what had happened in the final battle. Was Knives dead? He decided to head for his church/orphanage, not knowing whether or not his friends and his love would be there, but hoping so nonetheless.
