Sister Mary

The old Nun nodded and smiled encouraging Tom to eat she was becoming to come at ease with him. The children giggled at his comment, they too were becoming attached to the new comer.
___________
Trista

After dinner the twins helped clear the table and Trista washed the dishes. Milly and Woflwood had already retired to their bedroom after Trista insisted that she would gladly keep an eye on the boys and that they should go and have some time to themselves. Her and the boys were sitting in the living room she was sitting on the couch sketching and the boys were playing chess together on Milly's chess board. She had grown attached to these boys, over the past year that she had been volunteering at the orphanage.
___________
Knives

Knives came down stairs he stood there a moment and watched the scene before him. Trista was talking to the boys as the played chess together, the twins looked so happy and so did Trista. Trista this woman that seemed to be working her way into his mind more and more often. It had actually unnerved him a bit when Vash had told him she was staying the night to take care of the twins. He decided then that he wasn't going to come down at dinner time, but his body would no longer allow it. He had grown to hungry to bare so he came down to find some left overs if there were any. Then he came across this picturesque scene. It made him think if he had been more like his brother that she could be his wife and those boys might be his. He was sure now that Trista was not a mere human, but what she was he wasn't sure yet. He would have to do some tests and that would require him getting more "acquainted" with the young woman. He shook his head, and then Trista turned and looked at him, "Oh hello Knives finally get hungry", she said.

Sister Mary

After all the children were in bed she went to Tom, "Is there anything you'll be needing tonight Mr. Barrow, before I retire for the night?".
____________
Milly

Milly and Woflwood had spent the evening after dinner talking, reminiscing and marveling at the baby kicking. As the evening turned to night Milly turned to Wolfwood, "I have really missed you", she kissed him sensually on the lips. She reached over while still kissing him and turned the light out.
_____________
Trista/Knives

Trista settled the boys on the floor to go to sleep, while Knives sat down at the chess table. After the boys were tucked in on their way to dream land, Trista joined him. "You really do care for those boys don't you?", said Knives making the first move on the board. "Yes, I do their really good boys a little rambunctious sometimes but aren't all boys", said Trista as the made her move on the board. "I suppose so I wouldn't really no I have know children", Knives made his move to block Trista. Trista smiled, "But you were a little boy once", she counteracted his move with another piece. Knives raised an eyebrow, "Interesting, Yes, I was but that was a long time ago and the circumstances then were not as peaceful as they are now", he made his next move on the board. Trista giggled, "Are you sure you want to make that move?", Knives stopped and looked again and he had left his queen wide open to checked. "How is that possible?", he asked himself out loud, Trista gave a look of concern reached over and touched his hand, when she did this Knives felt a rush of energy from the young woman and he knew exactly what she was. He drew his hand back quickly and stood up from the chess table knocking some of the pieces to the floor. "If you don't want to play anymore Knives thats fine", said Trista as she picked the fallen pieces up off the floor and reset the chess board. After that Knives took her hands again and, led her to the couch, she sat down and he sat next to her. "Tell me about your mother Trista", asked Knives. Trista shook her head wondering what had brought up this question, "I don't know anything about my mother and my father and grandfather are very tight lipped about it", she said. Knives smirked, "Why do you think that is so?", he asked. Trista looked at Knives with a confused look, "I don't know I always figured that she had died and that it was hard for father to talk about". Knives let go of her hands, "I would like to meet your father if that is okay with you Trista?", he said with a smirk. Trista blushed a little, "Umm.. okay I don't see why not", she said sheepishly. "Good now you get some rest and I'll see you in the morning", said Knives with a truly happy smile, it was something that Knives hadn't done in a long time. And for once in his life it was genuine, Trista smiled up at him with that smile that made his mind go fuzzy every time he saw her do it. "Goodnight Knives sleep well", she laid down on the couch and settled into sleep. He stood there and watched her sleep for some time and then sleep began to catch up with him. He looked down at the floor where the boys were sleeping. He smiled and lightly brushed the hair out of Houston's eyes, the boy smiled in his sleep. Knives sighed and made his way up to his room and laid down sleep found Knives quickly and for once it was peaceful.

"I have really missed you.", Milly said before she leaned into Wolfwood, kissing him deeply. He leaned back, his arms around her, pulling her down on top of him, but was careful not to pull too hard, for the sake of the baby. "It must have felt like an eternity for you, Milly. But I've only just begun to remember. It's like yesterday that I was with you for the first time. But even that was too long." He laughed quietly, and then the lights went out.

Later in the night, Wolfwood was sleeping peacefully next to Milly, who was under the covers, but not him. He lay on top of the blankets, his dreams slowly taking him through his most recent past. Ever since he met Vash the Stampede and the girls, he felt like he was finally with that group of people that makes you feel like a family, at peace. He smiled in his sleep, as his dreams moved on to the uncertain future, coming up with all sorts of great possibilities.

What started as a pleasant dream for Wolfwood quickly turned into a nightmare. In his dream, he and Milly were sitting on the porch of the house. Milly's belly was swollen with pregnancy and all seemed well. The sky was clear blue and they were both laughing happily at nothing in particular. Several children from the orphanage played in the front yard and their laughter filled the air. Suddenly, Milly hunched over and screamed in pain. The sky remained bright and the children continued laughing as if nothing was wrong.

"The baby!" she cried. "The baby's coming and I can't get it out!"

Wolfwood did everything he could to make her comfortable, but her screams of agony persisted. The sun shore brighter, it's light burning Wolfwood's skin, and the children's laughter grew louder. Wolfwood could see something writhing inside of Mill'y stomach, almost as if it were trying to get out. The sun's light grew even more unbearable, making it hard to see anything but Milly in her agony. The children were now nothing but shadowy figures in the blinding light that surrounded the house. They were no longer playing in the yard, but slowly closing in on the porch. As Wolfwood glanced about, he saw that more shadowy figures had emerged from the light and his friends had emerged from the house. All of them were laughing joyfully, and those he could see were pointing at him. As he looked back down at Milly, he saw that tiny fingers had managed to claw their way out of her stomach and were widening the hole. Milly was laughing at him too.

"You can't save me," she giggled. "You can't save anyone. Not even yourself."

As the last word left her mouth, the baby finished clawing its way out of her stomach. Milly fell silent, a gleeful grin frozen on her face and a manic look in her eyes. Everyone continued to laugh louder and louder, and the sun's light grew brighter and hotter until Wolfwood couldn't see anything through its searing light. He could still hear their joyful laughter, though, and he heard them begin to cheer joyously.

"Can't save anyone!" they cried. "You can't save anyone! Not even yourself!"

The light enveloped Wolfwood completely, burning him away to nothing. Then he woke up.

Wolfwood bolted upright in the bed next to Milly, crying out an inaudible word. He looked around the room wildly, getting a grip on reality, but he could swear the laughter was still in his head. "What was that?" He whispered to himself. He looked over to Milly, bending over her to look at her stomach, still perfectly fine, then over at Punisher, in it's wrappings in the corner, then got up off the bed to get a glass of water.

____________
Trista
Trista sat up on the couch, her eyes glazed over, she walked across the room to her bag and pulled out her notebook, she takes a pencil and with amazing un-human speed begins to draw schematics. Houston hearing someone moving around sits up from his spot on the floor. He watches Trista for a moment her hands scribbling across the page so fast he couldn't see her hands. "Trista are you okay?", he walks over she isn't even looking at the notebook, she's looking strait ahead but even then she isn't looking at anything. He waves his hand in front of her eyes, "Trista", he decides something is wrong and goes to the closest adult he can find. He opens the door to Knives's room, "Mr. Knives I need your help with Miss Trista somethings wrong with her".
____________
Knives
Knives sat up at the sound of Houston's voice,
"Mr. Knives I need your help with Miss Trista somethings wrong with her".

He put his feet on the floor and stretched a bit, "Houston what is she doing that would make something wrong with her?", he was determined to make the boy think and see that he was being foolish and should go back to bed. The little boy paused, "It's like shes sleep walking but instead of walking she scribbling in her book. I tried to get her attention but she didn't even notice me", said the young boy in a worried tone. Knives raised an eyebrow, "All right we'll see whats wrong", he went down the stairs and saw the scene that the boy had described. He went, and put his hand on Trista shoulder, "Trista?", said Knives, she continued, drawing he looked down at what she was drawing. "The inner schematics of a plant but why?"Knives felt anxiety start to well up, he took her by the shoulders and shook her, "Trista! Enough!", he yelled. Trista blinked, "Knives whats going on", she threw her arms around his neck and started to sob out of fear. Knives was in shock he didn't know what to do the only thing he could think of was to hug her.

Tom made sure that he was alone in his room before smiling. He was enjoying himself immensely. He liked the people here and he would be sad when it was time to bid them farewell. No. Sad wasn't the word he was looking for. He would be disappointed to see them go. Still, he had a job to do. He had found the man he was looking for and some other to boot. So much work to do, so little time. The first thing he had to do was earn their trust. He pulled out a sizable block of wood from his pack and began carving it. After a few hours, it began to resemble a gun. He worked long into the night, carving and then painting it until he had a very convincing wooden gun. He placed the item on his bedside table and waited for the sun to rise. Tomorrow would be an interesting day. He would make sure of it.

"It was just a nightmare, Milly." He shrugged her hand off his back and opened the door. "I'll just be a second. I need some water." Wolfwood made his way down the stairs, then stopped his mouth hanging open, when he saw Knives holding a sobbing Trista. "Umm... Is everything alright down here, Knives? Is miss Trista okay?" Wolfwood looked down at himself, naked except for his boxers, and felt a little embarrassed.

Knives/Trista

"Well Houston came up and got me because Trista was sleep walking I guess", said Knives to Wolfwood trying to comfort the girl. He rubbed her back and it was actually comforting to him. Trista looked up at Knives, "Thank you Knives, I'm sorry you had take care of me. I have always slept walk since I was child, when I was younger we lived very close to the plant and my father would often find me in the bulb room talking to the plant. He always said that he could never get through to me so he would pick me up take me back to my room and lock my door to keep me in the rest of the night. And even then he said sometimes I would still find a way out and he didn't know how I did it. It's been a long time since I have done it several years at least", she looked up at Knives. She blushed when she realized how close she was to him, she pulled away from him, "I'm all right now thank you". Knives nodded down at the girl, "I will retire to my bed once again he said. And he headed back up the stairs, he almost dashed into his room he flopped onto his bed, "What is going on with me?"

Wolfwood was really thrown off by Knives caring about someone, but... He started putting two and two together, the way Knives had reacted when Trista first showed up, how he was nicer to her than anyone else, the way and the type of stuff she wrote in her notebook, and now the story he had just overheard. Could it be...? Another plant? Not that it really mattered, as long as she didn't turn out being insane like Knives... well, was. Wolfwood shrugged it off, then asked Trista, "Would you like a glass of water? That's what I came down here for in the first place, heh." He laughed a little awkwardly, then went into the kitchen to pour some water.

Trista smiled, "Yes some water would be nice", she said. Knives let go of her and looked down at the note book, "This is the internal schematics that only a plant on the inside would notice", he said to himself. Now Knives was very anxious to meet Trista's "father". he was sure that this man was not truly her father and that Trista was a mobile plant like himself. But how had he found Trista, it was obvious to Knives that she was younger than he and Vash so that means she was created after the S.E.E.D.S ships crashed. He didn't think that her actual age was 21 or 22 like she said, she was much older than that, but how had they kept it from her what her true age was. He shook his head well whatever it was he was going to find out.

Wolfwood returned with two glasses of water, one for Trista and one for himself, setting it down on the coffee table and then quickly and quietly removed himself from the room. He went back upstairs, opening and closing the door as quietly as possible, in an attempt not to disturb Milly again, but the door creaked loudly as he closed it.

She tucked him back in with his brother and then laid down on the couch again and fell asleep.

She turned over on her back and sighed, "Why is it when I wanna sleep in I can't but we I can't I do", she looked over at the clock. Tom was up and about early that morning, cleaning up around the orphanage and setting the table. By the time he had finished, most of the orphanage's residents had yet to rise. Tom saw this as good a time as any to take a break, so he went back to his room to rest until the breakfast bell rang.

...

Unknown to everyone, a group of bandits watched the orphanage as the sun rose. There were ten of them in total, and each of them heavily armed. They waited until the lone figure walking about the outside of the orphanage returned to the church to hurry into the orphanage. They went completely unobserved as they slipped into the front door and dispersed around the building, waiting for the residents to wake up.

"It was just a dream, but... What if we can't have peace? What if I can't protect the baby from Gunsmoke?" Wolfwood shrugged off the memories he had of the dream, then sat on the bed next to Milly. He laid back, then shut his eyes, but didn't go to sleep. If things went all wrong again, would I even be able to keep my promise to Vash? Or would I have no choice but to kill again? He thought to himself, trying not to show any of his doubts on his face, If someone were to threaten the baby, or the orphans, or anyone else here.... His thoughts trailed off, images of people he had killed, of Punisher in his hand, and lastly of Chapel, whom he had left alive. If he had killed Chapel instead of letting him live, he wouldn't have missed so much time. Over six months, because he had gone against what he had always done, just to please someone else.

The shower was invigorating and sent a feeling of refreshment over Meryl as she stepped out grabbing the towel nearby and wrapping it around herself. She wasn't sure if the others had woken yet, but she was sure they would soon which meant they'd be expecting breakfast. Today since it was her day off meant it was her job to make sure food was provided. Quickly drying off she dressed and brushed her hair out, slipped into a pair of soft slippers and made her way to the kitchen. It wasn't long before she had food cooking and breakfast underway.
Stifling a yawn Meryl made sure that when she dished up the food that Vash's plate had more then the others, more so since he ate like a pig. Setting the plates one by one on the table she stepped back and shouted as loud as she could. "BREAKFAST IS READY" taking one last step back she pressed against the wall, it had become a common ordeal to hear and see Vash before she could blink. A small smile came to her lips at the thought of him, they'd been together for such a long time that he was beginning to grow on her. She mused at the way he smiled and how after finding she had feelings for him how often she couldn't help but chuckle at him, only a few times she'd forgotten she'd been blushing and had to make something up in order for him not to grow suspicious.
She wasn't ready yet to even try to tell him, the thought was even too disturbing to her if he rejected her. Shaking her head Meryl jerked herself away from her thoughts.

Trista sat up from the couch when she heard movement in the kitchen, "Oh good morning Meryl would you like me to help you?", she stepped over the twins who happened to almost sleeping on top of each other. She chuckled, "Silly boys", then she went and began helping Meryl,

"You know the boys have been asking about you their quite attached to you and Ericks. I hate it when they have to go back to the orphanage after spending time here. I think they wished they could stay some times", she said with a sigh.
As the food started cooking the twins started to untangle from each other,

"Miss Meryl! said Dallas with his typical goofy grin

Houston came up behind him rubbing his eyes and yawning, "That smells good Miss Meryl", he said.

The two little blonde haired, blue eyed boys stood on either side of Meryl looking at the stove. "Mmm... yummy", they said in unison.

The twins giggled at Vash, "Sister Mary tells us to always use our manners Mr Ericks", says Houston, "Yeah, she always tells me that", said Dallas talking with his mouth full.

Trista shook her head, "Now boys don't follow Mr Ericks example", she chuckled.

Dallas closed his mouth and swallowed, "Oops sorry", he said as he flashed a big grin.

Milly giggled, "You boys are so silly", she said she had left Wolfwood to sleep in late because he had the nightmare last night. "And that includes you to Ericks".

Knives came down and Trista handed him a plate with a smile. He gave a half hearted smirk and took the plate, "Thank you Trista", he said.

"Your welcome Knives", she said, "After breakfast I plan on taking the boys back home and then heading to own home if you would care to join me".

The first children to wake in the orphanage went downstairs to be greeted by ten heavily armed strangers.

"Shh!" said the leader, a tall wiry man. "You wouldn't want to worry your friends by screaming now, would you? Take a seat at the table."

The children complied and waited as more came down the stairs, only to be given the same instructions. Soon all of the children were sitting at the table with four guns pointed at them, the other four being pointed at all of the building's entrances.

"Here's the deal, kids," said the leader. "You're going to stay here while my friends and I take whatever we want. Once we're gone, you won't have to worry about us anymore. Okay? But if you try to move without permission, we're going to have to shoot you. Understand?"

...

Tom smiled to himself, alone in his room. The stage was set, now all he had to do was make his entrance. The paint on the wooden gun had finished drying, making it look very real. He put it in his pocket and started walking toward the orphanage.

Sister Mary

Sister Mary came out of her room to greet the children that came down early and to get started on breakfast. She noticed that some cleaning had been done around the orphanage, toys picked up that were left out the night before.

"That nice young man must have cleaned up before the children woke up how nice", she definitely appreciated the help. But then she noticed something odd she didn't hear the children's voices chatting about this and that.

She pulled up her habit and pulled her revolver out of the holster, she checked to make sure that she hand a full round. She flipped it back and rolled the barrel, she looked around the corner from the kitchen door into the dining room to see what look like bandits. "Damn if I had known I would have just comedown with my cross", she said to herself.

Trista and Knives

Knives watched as the boys buzzed around Trista as they walked to the orphanage and smirked. It reminded him of him and Vash when they were children with Rem. He was trying to remember the good times he had on the SEEDS ship, he then was stopped by Houston, who came and put his hand into Knives's hand.

He looked down at the boy with a confused look, "Why did you do that?, he asked the boy, Houston smiled shyly,

"You were walking by yourself and I thought you might like company", said Houston. "Very well", sighed Knives as they continued to the orphanage.

Tom strode calmly through the front door of the orphanage. He stopped in his tracks when he saw the gun-wielding bandits that had taken over the place. His eyes widened in terror for a moment and his body locked up for a second. Then a spark of confidence ignited in his eyes and he relaxed slightly.

"You boys just chose the wrong orphanage to rob," he said.

"And what's that supposed to mean?" asked the bandit leader. A cruel grin spread across Tom's face, making him look almost demonic.

"Don't you know who I am?" he shouted, quickly drawing his gun and pointing it at the leader. "I'm Vash the Stampede, you morons!"

A sense of panic spread through the bandits, but the leader quickly spoke up.

"Oh yeah?" he said, "Where's your red coat? You don't look a thing like the description of Vash the Stampede!"

Tom let out a harsh laugh, all the time keeping his gun trained on the leader. "I was trying to retire," he said. "But it's people like you that keep on interrupting my well-earned rest."

"I don't believe you," said the bandit leader, starting to sweat. Even if this man wasn't Vash the Stampede, he was obviously dangerous.

"Do you really want to find out?" asked Tom. He and the bandit leader starred each other down for several minutes. The room was still.

Sister Mary

Sister Mary heard Tom and thought it might be a good time to go to her room and grab her Cross Punisher before and tackle the situation. She went back to her room and lugged out the large cross from its hiding place. Her cross was like Chapel's it turned into two separate guns. She separated the punisher knowing she wouldn't have time to in the dining room. When she she came back down Tom was going on about him being Vash the Stampede but he was using a fake gun. Sister Mary knew a fake from a mile away, she then came into the dining room,

"Now boys I don't want to have to kill you in front of my children but I will if I have to. You don't know who your messing with here I am Sister Mary of the Church of the Gung Ho Guns. And don't think I can't kill ya cause I'm an old woman", she held up both of the guns ready to fire if need be.

"Now I can give your last rights now, our you can get the hell out of my orphanage its up to you. And I assure you Mr Stampede over there wouldn't be to happy either if you try anything", she decided to play along with Tom, she would much rather the situation end with out blood shed.

Knives and Trista

As the orphanage came into sight Trista felt that something was wrong, "That's strange the children would be out playing by now", she said out loud. Trista knew that Sister Mary kept to a strict schedule and it was uncommon for her to stray from it.

Knives looked ahead, "I beleive they are being attacked, several men about 30 of them or so", he said he then looked over at Trista waiting for a reaction that consisted of how do you know that, Can your really tell from this far away. But Trista didn't react she just stood there for a moment like she was deep in thought.

Trista, "I agree looks like most of the are gathered in the dining hall", she turns to Dallas and Houston, "Boys you go back to the house and you get Mr. Ericks and your Big Brother okay", the boys nodded and went running back to the house.
