Setting
As Lake was reading about world war two, she heard a sound in the library closet. She shrugged it off, figuring it was probably a mouse or it was just in her imgaination. Then, there was more noise, coming from the closet, so she got up, and she walked to the closet. Lake was slightly scared to see what she would find, so she opened the door to the closet slowly, and at first, she saw nothing. She looked around for a few moments, and behind a rack of books, she heard more noise. It sounded like foot steps going down a flight of stairs. The rack didn't have many books, so it was easy for her to move, and when she moved it, she saw something she didn't expect to see. She saw a huge, dark, wooden door with a golden nob, and she opened the door hesitantly, to be greeted by a flight tile stairs. It looked like stairs you would find in the school building. There were torches on the walls that illuminated the stairs, so you ould see where you were going. She walked down the stairs quietly, making sure her steps were soft. When she got to the bottom of the stairs, she saw a fancy room, it was like a classroom, but there were tables instead of desks, and on the tables were beakers with chemicals in them, and the only person in the room was a tall boy who had his back turned to her.
He didn't look very familiar though, he was taller than most of the boys in her school, and he was a bit paler than most of the guys.
"Umm hi," Lake mumbled shyly, trying to get his attention.
Thomas had stayed after class to finish up his lab project when a voice called from behind him. An unfamiliar voice. It was soft like velvet, but he sensed something wasn't right about it in which made Thomas freeze in place. He slowly turned his head a fraction, then lifted up his eyes. His eyes knitted together; confused.
Who was this girl? He'd never recalled himself ever meeting her, nor seen her around campus. Was she new? Thomas, himself, couldn't answer a single one of these.
Then there was the smell. He didn't even have to inhale to detect the aroma of an intoxicating sweet perfumed pheromone laced flower. The scent brought shivers down his spine, and his taste buds to tingle with excitement, pleasure, hunger. The smell was exhilarating, in a strange way. The test tube in Thomas' hand dropped to the ground, and shattered into crystals...
He just stood there and stared at her; staring at the mortal. She said something, but Thomas didn't hear her clearly he only saw the shape of her mouth.
Jared was walking quickly through the halls, since he got yelled at for running earlier, looking for Lake. He looked high and low but couldn't find her. "Where did she go...?" he muttered to himself. He then spotted Hailey, another one of Lakes friends. "Hey Hailey!" He called hurrying up to her. "Have you seen Lake anywhere? I can't find her."
She went back into the library, and she got her textbooks before going into the hall, and she saw her best friend, Jared, was calling her name, and she approached him and Hailey.
"Hey," Lake said, but she didn't smile like usual. She was still distracted by the thoughts of the boy she saw in that strange place.
Jared saw Lake approach them and smiled at her. "Hey, where were you? I was looking everywhere..." He stopped as he noticed her lack of smile, he noticed the little details like that, it was hard for Lake to hide things from him. He put a hand on her shoulder concerned. "Lake? You ok?"
Jared looked at her for a long moment, obviously not believing her but he nodded. "Come on, let's get to class..." He said, turning to walk away.
Jared jumped a little when he heard her fall and he laughed as well, bending down to help her up then picking up her stuff. "Good one clumsy." He said with a laugh as he looked at her. "You ok?" He still had a smile on his face. It was like he always had a smile on his face when he was around her, except when she was upset, then he looked ready to murder whoever upset her. He really liked Lake. She was sweet, pretty, and fun to be around. He wanted so badly to tell her his feelings but he just couldn't, he thought she didn't like him like that and he didn't want to disrupt their friendship, it was better than nothing.
She took her textbooks from him with a smile, "Thanks for picking these up," she gave him a quick hug in thanks, and began walking towards class, a blush making its way to her cheeks after she had hugged him.
Jared chuckled and hugged her back then followed her since they had the same class. "No problem clumsy." He mushed up her hair and laughed. That was how he kept it a secret that he liked her, he acted friendly with her, if he was awkward and cautious around her then she'd suspect something.
Jared chatted with Lake until the teacher walked in then groaned as she announced a pop quiz.
"Aren't you excited for the pop quiz?" Lake quietly asked Jared with an enthusiastic grin.
Jared looked over at Lake like she was crazy then chuckled quietly. "Typical of the holder of the geek of the year award. I can't believe you're excited for a pop quiz. I'm gonna totally bomb it."
"I think it's adorable that you're not as smart as me," Lake smiled at him, but then a blush rose to her cheeks, and she eyes widened as she realized what she had said, and she looked down at her feet nervously.
Jared's eyes widened in surprise and he too blushed softly and he stared at her for a moment before mumbling. "Thanks..." And turning to the paper on his desk, still blushing.
Jared had a hard time focusing on the quiz, not that it would have mattered anyway since he never studied. He couldn't believe she'd called him cute, he wasn't blushing anymore but it sure felt like he should be.
