Lake looked at the note, and she couldn't help the blush the rose to her cheeks, and she laughed softly.
Jared Keeling
Jared smiled, glad he could cheer her up and he sat quietly in class, doodling in his notebook.
Lake looked at him as he doodled in his notebook, and she smiled slightly, examining his features. She had never noticed before, but he was quite muscular.
Soon, the teacher gave their pop quizzes back to the students after she had graded them. Lake was shocked to see a big, red '99' on the front of her quiz, "Jared, I got a ninety-nine. How did that happen? This is the first grade I've ever gotten throughout school that wasn't a hundred. In kindergarten all I got was hundreds, and it's been that way, up until now," she couldn't believe she had gotten a ninety nine. Her eyes were wide in shock as she stared at the ninety-nine on her quiz, "This is your fault, Jared. If you weren't so adorable, I wouldn't have been so embarrassed that I weren't capable of focusing. But you can't help it that you have good looks, it's because of your genes. I'm blaming your parents for giving you good genes."

Jared stared at her for a moment then burst out laughing. "Yes, you're right, your one mark lower is all my parents fault, sorry my good looks distracted you."
"This isn't funny Jared! My like is officially over, and it's all your parents' fault! I hope they are very happy," Lake said dramatically, but she was completely serious. She was known to be dramatic a lot. It was typical Lake behaviour.

Jared quieted his laughing and nodded. "Right, right, my bad. But can you really blame your bad grades on my parents giving me these supposed good looks?"
"Yes, yes, I can blame your parents. They shouldn't have made a hot kid," Lake said, then the bell ringed signaling it was time for the next class. Lake hurried out of the room, a blush rose to her cheeks due to the fact she had called Jared hot. It was true, but she didn't want him to know that she liked him. It would put their friendship in jeopardy.

Jared blushed as she called him hot and he stared after her for a long moment before continuing to class.
Lake shook her head at her stupidity. Jared probably thought she was weird now, and he would probably ignore her since he just thought of her as a friend.
Lake saw Jared in the cafeteria, and she hung her head, not wanting him to see her. She was too embarrassed to talk to him.

Jared looked around and spotted Lake, he could always find her anywhere but he saw her head was down, which he knew meant that she didn't want to see him. He frowned a moment then continued 'looking' then pretended to give up with a sigh and turned to head outside to eat.
Sighing softly, Lake looked up, and she saw Jared heading outside to eat. She picked up her tray, and she walked outside, "Hey," she mumbled softly from behind him.

Jared looked up, surprised she came out to talk with him, he was sure she'd wanted to be left alone, but he played it off like he hadn't seen her. "Hey, where were you?"

"I was at the table in the corner," Lake told him, "Oh, and I'm sorry about earlier, I didn't mean it when I said you were hot," she lied straight through her teeth.

Jared looked at her and frowned a little, kinda hurt that she said that, he sighed softly before forcing a fake smile on his face. "I figured you must have been coming down with something. Calling me hot, I mean look at me." He pulled his cheeks apart and made a goofy face. "How is this hot?"
Lake noticed the frown, and she wondered why he was frowning. She smiled slightly when he made the goofy face. Even with a goofy face, he's hot. Lake thought to herself, and she sat down on a bench outside, and she patted the spot next to her for him to sit down.

Jared smiled at her and sat down with her. "I wonder where Hailey is, she usually sits with us."
Lake frowned at the mention of Hailey. She had already been thinking he liked Hailey, and now she had no doubts about it, "Why don't you go find her? I have to go study anyway," Lake said, and she set her tray down on the bench, going to the library. She opened the closet door, and she moved the rack, going down to the room she had met the boy in. But she saw him talking to a man. It seemed that the man was helping him with the chemicals in the beakers. She hid behind the wall as she watched them.

Jared looked after her, thoroughly befuddled and he stood up. She seemed to have misunderstood slightly. He went into the library and called softly. "Lake? You here?" He looked for a minute then found the open closet door where there was a door inside, he poked his head in the dark space. "Lake? You in here?" He called softly.
Lake heard Jared's voice, and she was sure the boy and the man had heard too. She quickly, yet quietly ran up the stairs, and she whispered, "Be quiet, Jared. You're not supposed to be here, I'm not even sure I'm supposed to be here. She gently pushed him out of the way, and she came back into the library closet, and she closed the door that led to the labratory.
"Promise me you'll never go there again, and you can't tell anyone about it," she looked at him pleadingly, "Promise."
