Us Versus Them

Us Versus Them

Lavafalls Elementary is a boarding school that educates 1st to 5th graders. However, is it safe?

312 readers have visited Us Versus Them since AdmireAtStuff created it.

Children from different parts of the world spend their days and nights at Lavafalls Elementary, where they feed their brains, make new friends and get themselves into trouble. However, now the trouble might be bigger than usual, and it's not even the children't fault.

It all started when one child had a nightmare with a zombie chasing him. The zombie became a part of the reality and started attacking everyone. Since then the cases of nightmares becoming true became more and more frequent.

Those creatures, those roots of children's fears turn into reality. They can have any kind of form. Even fluffy bunnies might start chasing you. However, they all have one in common - once your eye meets them, your brain start screaming and your heart start beating up your chest.

They all get stronger and more dangerous by fear - it's their food, their source of life. However, they materialize into reality, so a simple "I'm not afraid of you!" is not enough to eleminate them. Everyone in the school need to fight physically. However, physical combat isn't a common ability at the school. Nobody has supernatural powers either. Everyone need to find a way to solve the problem.

The main source of research on the matter is the library.

It's not consisted only by textbooks for school. It has information that might solve the prioblems in different ways, for example tutorials on fighting, explanation on controling your mentality, how to beat different kinds of monsters, what kind of objects are needed against a specific threat, etc.

Character skeleton:

Appearance: (anime pics only)

The role play will start with all of the submitted characters hanging out outside the building.

1. Use your imagination, but hold yourself back from creating nightmares that would make the school explode, or solutions that would solve the entire problem. We might go there once the story and the characters have gone trough a lot of progress.

2. It's not the exact beginning of the year. Everyone have already settled in their dorms. All of the submitted characters know each other. I don't want a role play where each character goes to their dorms, unpacks, does some stuff by him\herself, probably meets someone else and then the story dies.

3. Do NOT submit a character in the character section if you consider it to be an NPC.

4. If you want to leave the role play, don't do it in a way that might kill it.
- If you say that you'll submit a character, but then you have second thoughts about joining, tell me immediatly.
- The same goes if you've already submitted your character.
- If the actions of other characters depend on your character, release them from the hanging before leaving.
- If you want to leave, but you want your character to continue their story, please put a description on how you want your character to develop.
- If you don't want your character to continue their participation after you quit, make them leave the story forever. (Killing them off is an option, but it's not the only one.)

5. For now I'll accept only students. No teachers as main characters! At least not until we start the story and I stop accepting other authors. For now they'll be NPC.

6. Most of the wrtten action will be outside of the attended classes! How much is "most"? To a point that I will NOT put a schedule of the classes. Heck, I'm not even putting a list of what kind of subjects are studied. I expect you not to do it too. Only the characters in the story will know.
- Having a huge test\exam? It will be reffered to as the big test\exam, the subject will be unknown.
- Three posts at a time (maximum) will take place at class if you really want to do it and if it moves the plot forward. If you want to do such a post, inform me. If you want to do it along with a character of another author, inform them too.
- Teachers will be mostly shown to be parent figures to the children and will try to help them with the nightmares. Their actual teaching will be mostly offscreen. It won't be even known what each of them is teaching.
- I will make a brief exception of rule 6 and its subrules only if we encounter a plot hole or if this is extremely needed for the story.

7. If one of the main characters releases a nightmare, nobody else from them will do it for a while. (Possible exceptions from time to time. All I want to avoid is a bunch of posts one below another of different characters having a nightmare. I don't want too repetitive posts!)

8. The number of submitted characters WON'T BE more than 10.

9. Quality over quantity - I prefer 60 words that give the other authors something to work with and moves the story forward than 1000 words of beautiful writing that has little to no impact on the story progression.

10. Balance the strengths and weaknesses of the characters!
- No perfect characters.
- No characters that have no good qualities whatsoever.
- Make your characters enterntaining in the process! Don't be afraid to cross the line of over the topness.

11. All of the main characters will interact with one another! If you want to create a loner, at least think of a scenario that will force him\her to interact with the rest.

12. We shouldn't underestimate children, but don't cram your character's brains with huge amount of wisdom, maturity and street smarts. No matter how mature your character is supposed to be, give them some childish and immature moments from time to time.

13. Crushes are acceptable. Some of them might even become boyfriends and girlfriends. However don't turn their romance into a huge soap opera. Remember - they're kids.

By creating Collectibles, you can reward your players with unique items that accentuate their character sheets.

Once an Item has been created, it can be spawned in the IC using /spawn Item Name (case-sensitive, as usual) — this can be followed with /take Item Name to retrieve the item into the current character's inventory.

Give your Universe life by adding a Mob, which are auto-replenishing NPCs your players can interact with. Useful for some quick hack-and-slash fun!
