Nineteen centuries ago war blemished earths canvas, man against the beast that had rose from the night and tried to relinquish its power on the world and on mankind. For many years there was nothing but death and darkness, and mankind was the only glimpse of light in these hallow times. However, the Gods up above had been watching the destruction with a never relentingsadness. These beings that they had created we're so keen on destroying each other, they had to do something to stop the blood bath.
Man claimed that it was unfair that the Vampires were blessed with supernatural powers from the Gods, they wanted unity and the war would not relent until it was achieved. And so unity they were given. The Gods decided that mankind was much too foolish to be each be given a special power of their own, so instead they blessed a pregnant woman who prayed everyday at their shrines. They blessed her with very special twins.
The woman was married to a hard working soldier, they were both so happy when they found out she was pregnant, though the closer to the due date the weaker the woman became. She did not survive childbirth. Though her two twin sons did. The father, learning of the childrens strange powers at childbirth, had a witch lock up the powers so they could live in peace.
However their powers would not always stay locked up. On the eve of the twins eighteenth birthday, their father fell at the hand of one of those beasts. Lost in their rage and sorrow the seal that had been placed upon them broke and their powers were unleashed with a new found drive. To make the monsters pay. For many more days the war went on, until finally, the brother ended it, but it cost them their own lives.

Vampire Knight || Frost & Fire

The city near by was just starting to buzz with life, but for the most part the night still rules, until the sun would rise. A howl could be heard in the distance. The snow bleached the grounds and trees white, killing any wild life that couldn't handle the harsh bite of the cold.
Further away from the city, deep within the snowy woods, lay a ryokan that was once an Inn, now it was home to a family of three. This is where our story begins, and where it will end.
"The flakes are skyflowers, pale lilies from the clouds, that wither on earth."
Silence. There was no noise within the house as Haruka lay awake in her bed role, ice blue eyes staring up at the ceiling as the silence dawned on. It seemed relentless. Her room was cold, the small heater that sat in the corner of her room, unlike the others within the house, did not glow red, signaling it's missus. As she let out a sigh, her breath puffed out around her. Haru shivered in delight.
Unlike her father and sister, she relished the cold, and found reason to escape to it whenever she could. Slowly, she blue haired girl rose from her role, and carefully changed her clothes - she was trying not to wake anyone else. She pulled on a pair of Black pants, a short sleeved grey shirt, and her snow boots. No normal person would dare go out in this weather with just these article's on, however Haruka was not normal.
She carefully slid open the thick screen door that opened out into the garden behind the Inn, and made her way outside. Her foot falls made crunches in the thick snow with every step, but they were near silent. She walked for quite some time, but when she reached her destination the sky was still dark. The blue haired female stood at the edge of a cliff, the snow falling all around her, and she let out a small laugh. This place was her escape, so beautiful, so peaceful, and just below the cliff was a Spring, during summer she would spend all of her days in the freezing deep spring to keep the heat from getting to her. Usually she could just right over the edge of the cliff and right into the spring, but right now it was frozen over.
Haru held her hand over the side of the cliff, and smiled as ice began to come forth and form upon her calm, the shinning light from it standing out from the darkness. Slowly, the ice shifted around in the air until it formed an elegant snowflake. Haruka giggled happily as she threw it up into the air, and it exploded into a hundred bright blue snowflakes that stood out against the white snow and shimmered as they drifted down to the Spring below.
She loved Winter.
"You know, I had a nightmare last night; it was snowing. And, guess what I wake up to? My bloody fucking nightmare come true!"
Shit..it’s fucking cold. mused Hanako’s first thought since awakening, the exact same one that had been on a loop ever since her sister pointed out the first snowflake. Currently crumpled in a fetal position underneath the futon’s several layers, golden eyes glowering in the milky darkness, the girl was possessed by an internal argument of sorts, neither side winning. God.. I’m hungry. I mean, I could always get up..but that just means exposing myself to that damn cold floor. But.. maybe Haruka is already up and maybe, just maybe, she already made breakfast? Oooh..and she could bring it to me in bed!..... Pfft. Yeah..right..wishful thinking, Kana. That idiot is probably prancing about in the snow...maybe if she gets frostbite, that’ll teach her to dress normally. With her inner voice trailing off, the girl focused her attention on straining for any sounds produced throughout the ryokan’s halls. In response, only the faint vibrations of her father snoring and the soft hissing of radiator reached her ears, a definite signal that it was her time to emerge.
Emitting a throat-deep growl of annoyance, Kana threw the covers from her body in a flourish, a sting attacking the second skin was exposed. Wasting little time for shivering, the girl shuffled over to her closet in a hurry before flinging the doors open, her foul mood evident. With a grumble of ‘Why is summer taking it’s sweet time getting here!?’, the fire user stripped herself of her nightclothes before replacing the flimsy outfit with something far more suited to the current season. Tossing on a simple pair of skinny jeans, a fitted t-shirt and fur-lined boots, all in the scheme of midnight, Kana swiftly gathered her crimson tresses up in a ponytail before adding the signature bobbypins. Casting a fleeting glance over at screened doors, a heavy sigh was produced knowing all too well on what was to come next. With a sharp inhale, Hanako, timidly, slid past the screen and out into the blanketed world.
”Damn cold. Damn mornings. Damn snow. Damn Haruka. Damn everything!” were her shouts as she trudged through the ankle set snow, her body temperature, instinctively, raising to shield itself from the freezing winds. Shooting a pining glance over her shoulder to the house, she only, briefly, took note of the melted puddles trailing after her footsteps. Giving yet another sigh, the fire user jammed her hands into her pockets before training those cat-eyed orbs to her sister’s figure a few feet ahead. [color=]”Yo. Iiiidddiottt~ Time to come inside already! Your adorable twin wants food!”[/color] sang her words, a playful mocking to them..as well as an annoyed scathing. Rolling her eyes hearing the childish giggles, Hanako trudged over to the nearby maple, stripped of leaves and ladened heavy with snow. Leaning against it, arms crossed over her chest, panic welled hearing the creaking from above, Oh shit.. Before she could even have a chance to react, a rather impressive amount of snow fell onto her shocked form, encasing her from head to toe. However, the seconds to follow were far more disastrous than what just occurred. Feeling anger well up within her, her body’s warmth increasing in response, the snow evaporated into mist and her orbs took on a glow. Shifting her narrowed stare to the tree, Kana let out a roar of anger, ”You..you...STUPID FUCKING TREE!” Sending an enclosed fist to the trunk, it wasn’t until the cracking pops of fire reached her conscious did she fully realize what she had just done.
Taking a faltering step backwards, eyes now wide with disbelief, Hanako took in the ablazed maple. ”Shit! Holy Shit!” rang out her chosen words to express surprise, knowing all too well this was her father’s favourite tree. Tossing Haruka her wide-eyed stare, the fire user leapt to action doing the first thing that came to mind; frantically blowing on the growing flames.
Listening to the silence of the empty night, Monty drove toward his destination. Focusing his eyes straight ahead, he couldn't help but slightly follow the windshield whippers, moving the snow back and forth. The heater was hacked up, as Monty was freezing. How long had it been since he received this assignment, since he has been driving? One. Two. Maybe Three days?
Monty stopped at the sign. Letting his body gently glade back, he rested on his seat. This was partly his own fault for ignoring the constant calls from the Higher ups, who were trying to contact him earlier. But it wasn't like he wanted to ignore their messages...no he did want too. Glancing both ways Monty continued down the road. In all honesty Monty could careless about these two 'Princesses' he was sent to protect. The only reason he agreed to do this assignment was due to the fact that the person after these girls, is someone he must meet.
Glancing to his left he noticed the small inn. Putting the car in park, Monty stepped out and headed toward the front door. Seeing as the lights were off he concluded that they were still asleep. But knowing he had to at least make sure, he knocked on the door. Stepping back slightly, he awaited for an answer of some kind. A sign of life. No one came. Knocking once more, he waited. After a good minute, he left the front door.
Opening his car door, he was about to leave and come back later in the day, when he heard a loud voice echoing from the woods. Looking at his car, he let out a heavy sigh. Shutting it with a bang he made his way toward the forest. Upon entering farther into the forest, Monty could see flames. Stopping behind a tree he glanced from behind it. Seeing two girls one with blue hair and another with red hair, he knew that they were the ones. He watched silently, waiting for them to be less...active.
"When she awoke, the world was on fire."
”Damn cold. Damn mornings. Damn snow. Damn Haruka. Damn everything!” The blue haired girl couldn't help but chuckle at her twins antics, but her focus was turned back to her palm, where small icy bits danced around and made strange shapes and forms all on its own, almost as if it was trying to get the young girl to be happy and laugh, and laugh she did. ”Yo. Iiiidddiottt~ Time to come inside already! Your adorable twin wants food!” Haru ignored her twin and giggled at the ice childishly, a happy grin spreading across her face.
She stopped however, at the loud creek behind her, and turned around just in time to see a rather impressive amount of snow fall onto her twins shocked form, encasing her from head to toe. Icy blue eyes blinked in horror, amusement, and confusion. In an instant the snow evaporated into mist, making Haru sigh. She was worried of what came next, it was after all, fathers favorite tree. Her twin roared in anger, like a wild animal, ”You..you...STUPID FUCKING TREE!” She winced at the language and gasped as she sent an enclosed fist to the trunk, fire instantly sprouting to life.
Haruka stared on in horror as her sister backed up, and looked at her with wide eyes - pleading for help. Her cusses fell on deaf ears. She saw Hana begin to blow on the flames, but of course the fire user only worsened the damage, her bloody breath would cause the fire to rise, not falter.
She moved in an instant, the ground beneath her feet turning into ice and helping her pick up speed, she practically flew at the tree. The ice from the ground shot up into the air, making a perfect spiral and allowing the thin girl to effectively flip into the air, over the fire. Chest heaving, she sucked in a lung full of the freezing hair, and released it as she flipped overhead, her breath falling onto the tree and spreading downwards, cutting off the fires access to it and protecting it from the starching licks.
She landed gracefully on her feet in front of her sister, her hair flying widely all around her. "Back up." She said calmly, glancing back at her sister, her own blue orbs glowing. Then, without a second thought, Haruka shoved her hands into the fire, and allowed her ice to expand over it, creating a barrier and trapping the fire and the fire alone within it. The flames lashed out at the dome of ice it was trapped within, but nothing happened. It was no secret to the twins that their powers had little effect on each other, however it was also known that Hanako could get frostbite, and Haruka could get burnt.
The fire lashed and withered within the Dome, but soon it would wear it's self out and turn into smoldering ash. The tree escaped with minimal damage thanks to her ice, however her hands did not. The burns on them were dark and horrid, blood oozing from the raw areas, she winced as she tenderly touched one hand with the other. With a small sigh, Haruka turned towards her sister and gave her a painfilled smile. "There we go, no worries." She grinned at her sister, and ignored the blistering pain in her hands.
"Welp. I've burned down a tree, roasted my sister's palms and nearly got hypothermia..all before breakfast. Today is going to be a good day! "
A heavy sigh, undertones of relief riddled within the exhale, was produced as the only response the second her twin went about saving the precious tree, dwindling the flame in the process. In fact, the second the blue-haired girl's order rang out, "Back up." in that familiar calm tone, the fire user was more than happy to oblige. Shuffling away from a Haruka, intent on her mission to clean up, yet another, one of her elder's messes, Ren trained those liquid gold orbs to the snuffed fire. Well…it's a good thing she was here.. mused her inner thoughts, each syllable laced with a vague bitterness. Tossing a glance that conveyed her inner resentfulness to her own palms, her inner commentary continued prattling on. I mean, if Haru wasn't here to use her powers.. things could have gotten ugly. Too bad that I…. Cutting off her secret monologue from progressing, Kana simply curled those tapered fingers into her palms before sending a peek at her concentrating other half. Observing the teal-tressed girl still consumed by her work, the fire user was left little choice but to let her mind wander. That's when it hit her in a similar manner to a brick wall.
Whipping her head to left in order to peer through the shadowed trees, the rambunctious teenager felt pins on her nape. What the-?! Unmistakably, it was the body heat from another party that became the culprit of her alarm, a feeling in the air only she could pick up on. Of course, even Ren's unmistakable cat-eyed orbs couldn't see what lay in the depths of the filtered lighting..but it made her stomach churn. Lifting her right foot from the entrapment of snow, the girl was prepared to dash off in pursuit of the whatever was attracting her interest….but any intentions were halted by the chipper voice of her sister. "There we go, no worries."
Dazedly retraining her attention back to her sister, Hanako executed three slow blinks before, rather stupidly, blurting out, "Huh..? O-oh right!". With a frown, she lashed out to take ahold of Haruka's wrists, a concerned 'tsk' being uttered taking in the gory sight. "God…way to be careful, you klutz. C'mon, let's get you cleaned up..plus, it's fucking cold out here.." Dropping her sisters exposed palms, she firmly planted both hands on her sibling's upper back to send a gentle shove. As the ice user began trudging back to the porch, Hanako tossed a quick glance over at the woods, curiosity gnawing away.
"Damn. Sis, you could have just let it burn, you know? It's probably past saving now anyways…." mumbled Kana's disapproval as she wound the gauze over her twin's raw palms, distress evident within her gaze realizing that her power had inflicted harm upon the youngest. Giving yet another heavy sigh, she secured the last piece of medical tape before belting out, "OOOOLLLDDD MAAAAAAAN!!!!! WAKE THE HELL UP ALREADY!"
