Introduction
Yuki's earliest memory is of a stormy night in winter, where she was attacked by a vampire... And then rescued by another. Now 10 years later, Yuki Cross, the adopted daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, Kaien Cross, has grown up and become a guardian of the vampire race, protecting her childhood crush, Kaname, from discovery as he leads a group of vampires at the elite boarding school. But also at her side is Zero Kiryu, a childhood friend whose hatred for the creatures that destroyed everything he held dear leaves him determined never to trust them. This coexisting arrangement seems all well and good, but have the vampires truly renounced their murderous ways, or is there a darker truth behind their actions? Because in this world of secrets, nothing is as it seems. And the price of misplaced trust may even be worse than death...

Vampires
Vampires are the supernatural creatures of the Vampire Knight universe. As in traditional folklore, they are sensitive to the sun and are active during the night; however, in reality, sunlight only hurts their eyes and does not actually cause them any damage.
When killed, vampires will turn into sand, though Purebloods are an exception in that when they die, they shatter into shards of glass instead. The most effective way to kill any vampire is to cut off their head or stab their heart using an anti-vampire weapon. Blood tablets had been developed to take the place of actual blood feeding, despite having a bad taste. Vampires also have a bloodlust that can only be quenched by the blood of their beloved.
Vampires have existed for well over 10,000 years, first appearing when mankind's civilizations began to crumble. At one point, they waged a war against humans, during which Purebloods began turning humans into vampires. When the number of vampires began to increase, a monarchy was established to rule the vampire race, with the Kurans as the royal family.
However, two generations ago in current times, the former king and head of the Kuran family (Rido, Haruka and Juri's father) abolished the monarchy in order to avoid authoritarianism. The Senate was then established to govern the vampire realm, with high-ranking vampires aristocrats in the seats. Despite their demoted status, however, the Kurans still hold the title as the highest standing family, and it is well known there are many vampires families who would support Kaname Kuran if he should chose to take back the kingship
Humans
Human is the term for the group of characters who are normal, mortal homo-sapiens that appear in Vampire Knight.
Humans have long been the regular food for vampires. Pure humans are subject to becoming Level E if bitten by a Pureblood Vampire. But if they have any vampire relative among their ancestors, the bite won't affect them because they already have vampire blood running their veins. Hence, they will remain in human form for all other effects.
Against the menace the vampires represented towards humans, they started the Vampire Hunters Association. This group develop a long rivalry between humans and vampires, which Kaien Cross pretends to end with the foundation of Cross Academy. Most humans, however, are totally unaware of the existence of vampires and those that do find out often have their memories erased.
Vampire Hunters
Hunters are born as gifted humans, who posses the power to destroy vampires. Their powers are passed down through their family generations.
This has also created a curse on vampire hunters. They can never have twins because the twins will consume each other in the womb and will be stillborn. In rare cases, the stronger twin will consume the other in the womb and be born as a very strong vampire hunter. Twin birth is extremely rare, and while one twin will be very strong, the other will generally be sickly and weak, and will serve little use as a hunter. For the pair to become powerful hunters, the stronger one has to devour the other and become one.
Vampire Hunters have the power to sense vampires, have slightly accelerated healing, and can even perform some magical spells. Vampire hunters are able to wield and use anti-vampire weapons. These qualities make a hunter much stronger than that of the average human. Some vampire hunters are known to live past the expected age of an average human due to the amount of vampire blood in their veins. An example of this is Kaien Cross.
Vampire hunters generally have an antagonistic attitude toward vampires, generally due to the danger posed by them and the damage they have done. Many hunters express the opinion that vampires enjoy killing too much, thus the reason why they don't think vampires should police their own.
Vampire hunters see it as their duty to kill rogue and dangerous vampires and consider themselves a type of policing force for them and do not appreciate vampires interfering. Recently some hunters have started to see vampire hunting as more of a sport under the rule of the former president.

The sun was soon setting, and the day class students were just dismissed. Like usual, the hoards of girls had begun to stampede the toward the night class in order or at least catch a glimpse of the Night class' members, before the curfew for them was enforced.
Nanako Ukame
"Finally!" Nanako sighed and gathered her things when the classbell rang. It had been a good day, no tests, no bad grades. Everything had went smoothly. Now though, the lessons were over and she wanted to hang out with her friends. "Come, Nanako!" her best friend grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the classroom. "We must hide and make sure none of the teachers notice us." she whispered. Nanako looked confused for a second before a partly amused-partly annoyed expression appeared on her face. "Oh no ..." she sighed. "Seriously? After last time, I thought you had given up on trying to meet with the night classes." She shook her head. Her friend had put it into her head to meet the guys from that mysterious night class and no matter what Nanako said, she couldn't convince her to drop the issue. "Oh come ooooooonnnnn!" her friend whined. "Fine, but we must be careful... we don't know these peole."
The girls hid in one of the empty classrooms and waited for the members of the night class. Even Nanako wouldn't admit it, she was starting to feel rather excited as well. I just hope this won't be a mistake, she thought nervously.
♦ Minato Arisawa ♦
Throughout the day of honestly just dozing off, waking up, and dozing off again, all Minato wanted to do was to just sleep the rest of the day.
Sadly, he would get none of that.
His guardian duties have just begun, and it signaled to be another long, boring, drawn out night as he watched the crowd of girls begin to form around the Moon dorm from the window. What was the point of it? He never could understand what went thought these psychotic girl's mind.
"Oh come ooooooonnnnn!" came a voice from the hallway.
Though his silent mulling was interupted when he heard a girl's voice coming from one of the other classes. Despite having the silver ear piece over his ears, he could surprisingly still hear what went on around him.
Especially if two stupid girls decide something that could most likely lead to more trouble for him.
"Fine, but we must be careful... we don't know these people." Came another girl's voice. He stifled a sigh. Perhaps Yuki could handle the crowd for a bit while he took care of the people inside.
His hand reached up, slipping of the headphones and it hung limply from his neck. His gray eyes caught sight of the two retreating day class girls as they huddled into the classroom. The blue-haired prefect blinked, before walking to the classroom quietly. His hand reached the door handle, and he slid it open with ease.
"Day Class students should be reporting to their dorm at the moment. I do hope you two weren't planning anything against the rules." Minato stated simply, a small smile gracing his lips towards the two females. He didn't like to intimidate students like the other silver haired prefect, or freak out like a certain brown haired prefect. He found that acting calm and smiling usually did the job. As he spoke, he slid on the red arm band on his left side to show his pass as a prefect.
Sadly, he would get none of that.

Nanako rolled her eyes and leaned against the wall. "Now shush! You will get us in trouble, Yumiko." she told her friend.
She walked towards the blackboard and staarted drawing on it, a portrait of her friend, though slightly exaggerating her nose and ears. "Hey, Nanako!" She smirked at the other girl's outraged expression and was about to comment when the door opened and an older student stepped inside.
Damn it! she thought, I knew that Yumiko would get us in trouble. Nanako looked up and smiled sheepishly at the older boy. He obviously was a prefect, but he seemed nice enough and would hopefully not teld the teachers about them. "We're sorry, we're just..." she started to appologize, but was interupted by her friend who held out her mobilephone.

Katherine Goldsworthy
Katherine sighed as the time for night classes was soon approaching. It wasn't the actual classes that really bothered but instead that from she and the rest of the night class students step out the gates of their dormitory they are bombarded by many students hoping to meet them. It's not a pleasant experience to not even be able to walk out of her dorm without people surrounding her for whatever possible reason. She sighed once more after finishing with her red tie to her uniform.
Katherine quickly pulled up her black stockings and slipped on her shoes before walking outside of the dorms seeing some of the night class students follow her and many girls screech like crazed fans at the sight of them mainly because of the male vampires. Katherine never anticipated this when she agreed to attend Cross Academy. It's never been unbearable just quite unpleasant despite how some of the night class students may like the attention Katherine was against it and simply wanted to attend her classes at least with some normalcy.

Minato gave a lazy blink, not once buying the story that came from the other girl's lips. If he believed everything a girl here said, there would most likely be a lot of bite marks on their necks.
He watched as they left, before following them quietly to make sure they got out.
"I'll escort the two of you out." He said, as he followed the two girls out of the building. The boy prefect paused for a bit, before then adding. "Oh yeah. Try to have your excuses ready before hand, so I don't actually see you taking out your phone from your pocket." Just to make sure they knew he didn't buy their excuse one bit.
Minato was forever sleepy, yes but that didn't mean he didn't notice the small details that showed up right in front of him. He wasn't that type of person to let small details go unnoticed. Such as the blond girl most likely was forced into this plot by her friend, since she was the one who looked like a deer in headlights when he caught the two of them in the room.
Also, since the girl-Yumiko? was often one of the day class girls outside by now, waiting for the dramatic exit of the vampires that waited inside. Small facts like that could easily be seen, even without his training.

Nanako stumbled slightly as her friend dragged her through the corridor of the school building towards the exit. "Yumiko, stop it!" she hissed and pulled her arm out of her friend's grasp. "We can walk normally." She looked up when she noticed that the prefect had followed them into the corridor.
Being escorted out of the building like some criminal by a prefect wasn't a very pleasent experience, though Nanako had to hit her lip to keep from laughing at her friend's sheepish expression when her little lie was discovered. Serves her right, she thought smirking. "But .... but... maybe I had already put it in my pocket before you came in!" Yumiko tried to argue with the boy and Nanako shook her head. "Drop it! We were caught, now live with it." she told her friend. Seriously, Yumiko could never just admit defeat and always had to argue to point.
"So, you are one of the night class students then?" Nanako asked him. "I'm Nanako by the way and this is Yumiko. Sorry, if we were causing you any trouble." she said sincerely.

"I'm in Day Class. 3rd Year. I'm assuming you two are under classman..." Minato said with a yawn, before rubbing his eyes sleepily. He had to remind himself not to fall asleep while walking. "I'm allowed out during the night since I am a prefect." He continued, pointing to the red band on is left arm.
As the girl introduced herself, he nodded slightly before responding. "Arisawa Minato. Nice to meet you two." He said back politely. He glanced at Yumiko before speaking again. "I'm assuming you were dragged into this, Nanako-san?" He watched the girl, Yumiko try to argue back, but the blonde had shut her up, with the triumphant smirk plastered on her face.
Before the girl could awnser him, he flipped out his phone,typing in a quick message to the other prefect.
"Will be late." Before hitting send.

But ..." she smirked slightly at his yawn, "isn't it really hard to pay attention during day class, when you also have to be outside during night class? It's like ... working twice as much." She couldn't imagine to spend so much time at school, what a drag. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Yumiko typing wildly on her phone and shook her head. The girl couldn't live without it for an hour!
Nanako chuckled at his comment and nodded. "Yeah, well Yumiko is really interested in the night class students. And I must admit to be somewhat intruiged as well. Why do we never get to see them?" she asked, more to herself then to Minato.
