Sora Tsukino

"The phenomena of your power and my choice are forever disconnected. This is the Null Hypothesis."

a character in “Vampire Knight: The Devil's Dance”, originally authored by Ion, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Image

Image

“I’m the Null Hypothesis. The Tabula Rasa. Emptiness. Nothing. And the potential in that is infinite, or so they tell me.”

Basics

Image

“So what, you think you’re special? You think the way you were born makes you that way? Show me the work of your hands, what you’ve done with all that talent and blood of yours. Then we’ll talk.”

Nickname: Sora is occasionally referred to (unkindly), as “Kara,” a play on the kanji of his first name, which read one way can mean Sora, or sky, but read as “kara” means “empty.” He is also known as Null, but not by the same people that know him by his actual name.

Age: His school records indicate that he’s rather young by vampiric standards, placing him at 124 years of age. Like all mature vampires, he resembles a young adult, around 18 or so years of age.

Gender: Male

Race: Vampire

Role: Pure-Blood; though the headmaster has requested that he be a prefect on several occasions, he refuses.

Appearance

Image

“Who cares how I look? What can a face tell you about anything? The world would be better off if we couldn’t see how other people look at all.”

Hair Color: Black, shot through with bluish strands if the light is right.

Eye Color: Also black, to the point where it’s impossible to distinguish iris from pupil. There are people who find this disconcerting.

Skin Tone: Pale.

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 175lbs

Physical Description: Those with more poetic demeanors have described him as darkness incarnate. It’s overly dramatic, of course, and he laughed in the face of the only person foolish enough to ever report this fact to him, but there’s a little something to it. Certainly, it accurately reflects the coloration of his eyes and hair: both such a deep, pitch black that you’d expect light to be absorbed into them rather than reflected.

That’s maybe just from afar though. Up closer, it clear that his hair catches and reflects light wavelengths in the blue-purple spectrum, giving it a dark, but not colorless, sheen. From the way it hangs in feathery bits around his face, there’s a fair guess that it’s soft, though honestly, if you attempted to touch it, you might lose the hand. His eyes are uncanny, and most of the time seem to be rather dull and uninterested. The same bad poets have commented upon this by saying that to hold his gaze for more than a few seconds is to stare frighteningly into the void. Sora calls bullshit on that one. This said, they do change significantly when something holds his interest, gaining an intelligent glimmer that usually seems absent, but this happens only rarely.

Like any pureblood, his facial features are fine and well-arranged, though his seem to have a bit more roughness and sharpness about them than most. It’s something in the downward angle of his brows, the proudness of his nose, maybe, or the fact that his mouth seems to bear a permanent scowl. When he does smile, it’s wolfish and not at all reassuring or soft, often with just the faintest flash of fang. It’s hard to forget that Sora’s a predator—pretty much everything about his body language and movement exude it. He is not without grace aplenty, but he is far from delicate in any of his features.

With Sora, nothing is wasted. His musculature fills out his frame, and he has almost nothing in the way of excess fat. Indeed, he seems very solidly-built, and in this sense unmistakably masculine in appearance. His wardrobe favors black, and occasionally other dark colors as well. Unlike many, his hands are rough, well-callused, more suited to the hilt of a sword than fine china.

Personality

Image

“I guess you were expecting someone else, huh? Too bad for you.”

Romantic Interest: TBA

Skills and Abilities: As a pureblood from a very old family, he has much of what you’d expect, and shares in all the common abilities of his kin. His family shows a particular proclivity for the manipulation of lightning or electricity, which has long made them valuable as soldiers and assassins, even among vampires. It also means that the other houses have long fallen over themselves to remain in favor with the Tsukinos—useless sycophants, all of them.

On a personal level, Sora is also well-trained in close-quarters combat, enough to match or exceed anyone he’s met, including some very, very old vampires indeed. His own personal vampiric talent helps very much with this: though he does not make a public spectacle of it, he isn’t referred to as “the null hypothesis of the blood” for nothing. Curiously, he is capable of completely nullifying any other vampire’s abilities, should they attempt to use such talents on him. It is an ability that was quite feared by the other pureblood houses when it was discovered that he possessed it, though nobody knew exactly which of the Tsukino heirs had it.

Other: It should be noted that his prodigious talents in some areas have left him rather deficient in others. Sora lacks most of the social graces of other purebloods, and is often considered something of a heathen or a barbarian among them. He also doesn’t deal well with emotions of any kind, from himself or others. It makes life
difficult.

Likes:
+ Sarcasm, both employing and being around people who regularly employ
+ Exercise and any kind of physical exertion
+ Honest people who speak straightforwardly
+ Spicy food
+ Cats

Dislikes:
- Most pureblood vampires, including the remaining members of his own family
- Excessive pomp or ceremony
- Talking for the sake of talking
- Disingenuousness
- Summertime

Personality: Whatever you were expecting when someone told you that Sora Tsukino was a pureblood vampire is untrue. Well, most things anyway. He’s no refined, well-spoken gentleman, and he’ll at least do you the courtesy of making sure you know that up front. Though he knows the proper manners and standards of decorum, he doesn’t use them unless he absolutely has to, and you’ll have a hard time forcing the headstrong young man to do anything he doesn’t want to. Where others of his kind speak in honeyed or flirtatious or playful words, he refuses to go in for any of it. His statements are blunt, direct, and to the point enough that they’re sometimes
awkward.

He’s a bit crass in his language, and peppers in oaths when he feels like the situation warrants it. Again, he knows how to speak with all the sophistication and sophistry of his kind, but he refuses to do so. They, like he, are in the end predatory animals who would as soon rip out a human’s throat as talk to them, and he’s not going to hide that. Actually, he doesn’t mind humans at all, he just understands that there’s no point in pretending to be the same as one. He’s a killer, and an incredibly-dangerous one at that, and he refuses to sugar-coat that for anyone. It’s probably kinder in the end—this way, those with any sense of self-preservation will know to stay away. And those without any, well
he probably likes them more anyway.

His opinions on his own kind are
less than favorable. He sees the vast majority of vampires, pureblood and otherwise, as needlessly-sycophantic idiots too concerned with the likes of blood and purity and privilege to even begin to understand that the humans are slowly winning the world while they sit around and pontificate about their own superiority. It sickens him. If that’s the way they really are, the humans deserve the world.

Like many previous members of his family, Sora could be compared to lightning in his demeanor, then: he strikes too fast to see and without mercy, and even when not actively aggressive, there is something sharp and deadly simmering just beneath the surface of his skin. It tends to intimidate, and gives the impression of someone with an absolute disregard for life. Not quite true, but the reputation suits him just fine. If you happen to be among the people he likes, he’s wickedly funny, and skilled in the deployment of sarcasm and dark humor. Most people never get close enough to see it.

Background

“There are some things you’re better off not knowing.”

History: The Tsukinos have long been considered one of the most dangerous clans of purebloods in the world, due to their uniquely combative abilities and the special, in-house combat training that saw their each generation flourish in the darkest corners of vampire society, carrying out assassinations sanctioned by the family, and keeping close watch on its enemies. This often had other clans going to great lengths to be their allies, so that the blades would never be turned against them.

It seems that people can only be pushed so far before they push back.

Sora was the fifth child of his parents, both Tsukinos of the main family line, though as the second son, it was not expected that he would inherit. Still, the lesser children of the clan were the ones most often trained in the stealth and assassination arts, and he was no exception. When he came into his powers, it was discovered that he possessed a never-before-seen talent for nullification. Seeing an opportunity to push their status yet further, the Tsukinos subtly let slip that one of their new heirs had this talent, as a method of intimidation. Unfortunately, the move backfired, causing several other houses to band against them in fear, and a slaughter was planned.

It took a great deal of vampires just to slay the main family, and even then, they didn’t succeed completely. Though his brother, sisters, and parents were brutally slain, Sora survived the massacre intact, as did a few members of the branch families. An act of aggression of this scale had not been seen in vampire society for ages, and it shook up many established alliances. Sora’s family banded behind him, appointing him the new head of household at the staggeringly-young age of 110, but in truth he has very little to do with it. He lets his grandparents run the household, and does his own part to recover what was lost: he searches for those responsible, and eliminates them.

He has recently enrolled at Cross Academy due to a troublesome directive from his grandparents, and generally considers it a waste of time. They keep him there, however, with the suggestion that perhaps he can find more information on his family’s killers there. To the wider world, the Tsukinos are considered a disgraced house, and everyone assumes the child they were afraid of has been killed, and that Sora himself is just a member of a branch family or something.

Nobody has thought to connect him with the appearance of a masked vigilante called Null.

“Hard is trying to rebuild yourself, piece by piece, with no instruction book, and no clue as to where all the important bits are supposed to go.”

“I’m not sure the headmaster would be pleased to find you here,” Haruka turned around and blinked at the smaller girl before carefully closing the door half way. Haruka tilted her head ever so slightly as she tried to place why the kitten that sat upon the girls shoulder looked so familiar, but instead of dwelling upon the fact that she couldn't quite place a memory, she addressed the girl. "I guess the same goes for you." She replied. Haruka figured if she was caught by the new Headmaster, she would just explain how she needed a new uniform, not that she would wear it, and if she had been caught by another student, she would just black mail them into shutting up, she never expected to be caught by both at the same time. "That is not true. Ms. Haruka Yamazaki. Ms. Kaede Tachibana." She visibly flinched at the sound of her own last name before directing her eyes towards the man. She recognized him right away, he was the guy she had ran into at the festival. The guy that had tired to sweet talk her. Awkward... She frowned slightly at the man before glancing at the smaller girl, Kaede.

Part of her wondered if the girl was as unimpressed with the man as she was, there was something she couldn't place about this guy, something just didn't feel right. "My office will always be open to the students." She looked back up at his smile and blinked, he was being surprisingly nice, perhaps she was just being too judgmental. "I am glad to see that the two of you accepted your invitation to attend here." Haruka frowned at him from behind his back while mumbling a something about burning invitations, but it seemed he hadn't heard her, because he just opened the door the rest of the way and gestured for both girls to enter. Haru visibly flinched at the sight of the room, flashes coming back to her and making her take a small step back before forcing herself into the room. "For some of those I sent the invitation to, I am certain that coming back here must be truly hard." Haruka looked at the chair she was expected to sit in, and carefully sat down on the edge. "No kidding," She mumbled looking down towards the ground under her chair.

She didn't like the fact that her chair was placed where the Headmasters body had once been. "But, we must live on for those who can never do so even if it is the hardest thing to do." Her train of thought was broken as he coughed, clearly he was done with that conversation. "I had invited Mr. Sora Tsukino and Ms. Asuka Fujiwara to meet me in my office as of now. You saved me the trouble of calling for you Ms. Yamazaki." Another flinch at the use of her last name before her frown deepened. The last Headmaster had known not to call her by her last name...

Her eyes brows came together in pure and utter confusion as she realized a plate of cookies were being offered to her and Kaede. Haruka looked at the man like he had grown a second head before she timidly took one of the smaller cookies and shifted it between hands. "As per tradition, I would need to have prefects. I wonder if you three would be inclined for that job and if so, I would have a very important duty that the prefects must do starting tomorrow." The red head sputtered and nearly dropped the cookie she had been holding. "I beg pardon?" Haru asked, looking at Kaede then back to the older man like she was expecting one of them to jump out and yell 'got you!'

He's insane. She concluded before shifting the cookie to her left hand while letting out a sigh. "What is the 'very important duty' that you would have us do." Haruka asked, watching him with cool and calculating eye, she was not giving her answer right away. She knew what the Prefects did, and if it came down to it, she wouldn't be able to fully protect any of the Day Class from a Vampire, that much was clear with her last encounter with him. If she took this job she would have to ask Asuka or Sora for lessons on fighting. Now wouldn't that be interesting.

"What does the future hold for us now?"

Asuka was snapped out of her thoughts by a quiet voice, answering the question she thought went unheard. Turning, she blinked her eyes for a minute at the girl before her. For a moment, she thought she was seeing Sora, but the girl's dark grey eyes and the ever so femininity of the girl told Asuka otherwise. She offered a small smile to the girl, not wanting to come off rude or conceited by ignoring her. But then, the girl spoke and addressed her by her name. It confused her until she finally solved the riddle. She spoke of him, Sora. The pure-blood who never left her thoughts even as she left the Academy and began hunting. Her thoughts always drifted back to him, wondering if he was safe, if he was hurt, if he succumbed to his thirst as she almost had. She had promised him that she wouldn't let him starve, and she left him. She pushed the thoughts to the back of her mind as she finally addressed the girl before her.

"Yes, but you can just call me Asuka. I take it that you must either be Sachiko or Kaede. Sora spoke of you both. It's a pleasure to meet you," she stated as she smiled a little more warmly than she had intended to. The statement had caused a warm feeling to flow through Asuka when Sachiko spoke of Sora thinking highly of her. She didn't know why, she was no one special, at least she shouldn't be given the blood flowing through her veins, however; she pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind. "Is...is he okay?" she found herself asking as she stared at the girl. Before she could hear an answer though, the sound of her name being called over the intercom caused Asuka to sigh. She had only been at the Academy for a few minutes, and already she was being summoned to the Headmasters office. It was just her luck that it would happen. Would he ask them to be prefects again? Asuka wasn't sure if she was ready to take on that position again.

After what had happened, she wasn't sure of anything. What good did being a prefect do if she couldn't save someone? Without realizing it, Asuka's legs had carried her towards the familiar office of the Headmaster. The building, the design, everything remained as it once had before the explosions, however; there was still the fact that it wasn't the same. The building had been destroyed, and for a moment, Asuka could still hear the agonizing screams of the dying students and teachers. It sent shivers down her spine as she reached for the door knob. A moment of hesitance as she did so caused Asuak to take a deep breath. She didn't want to be here. She wanted to be out, searching for the one who was responsible. She wanted to find the Rosenkruez pure-blood: Zenith. Even if she had found him, what could she do against the pure-blood. He was that, a pure-blood, and she just a half-blood. What power could she possess to exact her vengeance on him?

Sora had told her before they parted that he had been the one responsible. That he as their enemy now and for some reason, that broke her heart more than words could describe. She didn't want to believe that he would have chosen that path, however; a deep part of her knew that even if he wasn't the one behind the bombings, he would eventually do something to drive a wedge between everyone. And then his familiar had killed her brother. How could she ever forgive him for that? He took the only thing she had left to cling onto the human side of herself, hence why she had given in and allowed herself to take pleasure in killing other vampires. Although truly, she hadn't taken pleasure in it. She had cried after each one she killed. It felt as if a deep hole in her heart couldn't be filled by no matter how many times she killed. She had even attempted drinking the blood of a mad vampire to see if it would poison her and kill her, however; she could never bring herself to do such a thing.

"Here goes nothing," she stated, knocking on the door before opening it and ushering herself in. Immediately, her eyes were flooded with the bright red colors of hair. One obviously belonged to Haruka, however; the other girl she was unfamiliar with. But then there was this scent that lingered off of her. It was of him. She knew this must have been the other girl important to Sora, and for a moment, a pang of envy filled her. She ignored the feeling and glanced at the new Headmaster. She missed a conversation apparently as Haruka sat quietly and the other girl didn't seem to move at all. She had caught the last of the Headmasters statement. So she was going to be asked to be a prefect again. She could try again. She could try and utilize her new-found prowess with her ability, and an ability she discovered all her own during her hunts.

She could utilize it to perhaps protect the students better. She took a seat to the farthest from Haruka, leaving an extra space between her and the red-haired girl and glanced to the Headmaster. She was slightly confused when Haruka spoke. Had the Headmaster asked her to become a prefect as well? This caused Asuka to frown. She didn't want her friend to be put in that situation. She would constantly be in danger if that were the case, and Asuka didn't want her to be in danger any longer. She wanted to keep the girl safe as best as she could, however; that wasn't a decision Asuka could make for Haruka. Whatever the girl chose to do, Asuka would be there to help her and protect her.

“Am I just paranoid? Or is something really wrong here?”

The girl’s returning comment wrung a smile from Kaede, and she was about to agree that this was probably true when the subject of conversation appeared behind them. Apparently, that meeting was finally over. Kaede studied the headmaster for a moment. He had to know her true age, and yet he had invited her to be a student here. Seeing as he knew her name, there was very little chance he didn’t know more about her, and Sora and Sachiko had taught her that people with information were the most dangerous kind. He didn’t seem so dangerous—he looked kind of ordinary, in fact, but then
that was just another reason to be wary, wasn’t it? Danger doesn’t always look like danger. Never let your guard down.

Still, even if there was danger here, it wasn’t like there was much she could do about it by herself. They’d also always stressed that the people who would want to hurt her were probably stronger than she was. It was why hiding was so important, only now they couldn’t hide anymore, so they had to take up what Sachiko called a “defensive position.” Kaede wasn’t sure how this qualified, but if the man was giving out free information, she might as well take it.

And the cookies, too. Those seemed to be free. Kaede took one with a smile and a grateful bow, though once he started talking about prefects and important duties, she wasn’t so sure she should be there anymore. She’d never been made to feel unimportant; quite the opposite, in fact. She knew that Sachiko loved her, and Sora
she liked to think that he did, too, but it was hard to read him. She might have excused herself from the situation, but another girl, this one with short brown hair and eyes of the prettiest jade color, entered, sitting kind of far away from Kaede. Maybe she didn’t like strangers? Midori hopped gently off Kaede’s shoulders and into the girl named Haruka’s lap, turning a round a few times before settling there, apparently happy to remain for the duration of this ‘meeting,’ whatever it was really about.

Kaede didn’t want to be rude, and she hadn’t been told to leave, so she stayed, shifting slightly uncomfortably in the thick atmosphere of the room and nibbling on her cookie demurely. At least, until the last person finally entered the room. It seemed to the girl that Sora always filled a room with just his presence. To anyone else, the feeling might have been uncomfortable, but to her it was comfort. It meant that he was near, and she was safe for sure until he left again. Even a meeting with three strangers could not change that comfort, and she relaxed perceptibly when he entered, turning to the side a little to beam at him.

His nostrils flared, and a look of mild bemusement crossed his face before he made eye contact with her, nodding his acknowledgement of her silent greeting. He glanced over the others in the room, and for some reason, his eyes lingered on the brunette girl, but Kaede could not read the look in them. They seemed empty like usual, but also
she didn’t know. There was something else in them, but then he turned away from her too and looked only at the headmaster, perfectly neutral in his expression. It was his mask, Sachiko called it. Not the white one with the pretty purple stripe she’d painted on it, but the one where you couldn’t tell who he was or what he thought, even though he was right there.

He remained standing, and when he did speak, it was only to address the headmaster. “You called.” It wasn’t a question, and it was also perfectly neutral, just as bland as his face. She didn’t like it—Sora never used that voice around her, and now she understood why. It made everything feel
hollow. He folded his hands behind his back, and said nothing else. Clearly, it was time for an explanation. She wondered if she was supposed to leave now. She didn’t really want to leave Sora or Midori behind, but she was also kind of uncomfortable, so really anything would have been fine by her, but she wasn’t going to be rude and leave without a dismissal.

"Time waits for no one. Life will never be fair. So, the story begins anew."

Yes, they are truly an interesting group of three. He had already noticed that during the school festival. This is what Hughes was thinking when he had finally Asuka, Sora, and Haruka within his office. Their sudden, subtle, but expected reactions to another was but an amusement to him. Of course, he had only kept this to himself knowing the three might take offense in his sincerest opinion. The passing time groomed them to what they present themselves to him now. They were more broken and yet hardened. Whether this was for the good or for the worse, the only person who can decided this upon was the three as well.

"It is good to have all of you here." Hughes stated calmly and rather pleased with the attendance. There was no doubt in his mind that they would not come back to Cross Academy. while he glanced towards the youngest among his guests. He could notice the certain uneasiness and doubt if she was needed here. The new Headmaster calmed those notions with a small smile a few words. "I want you to listen well about this, Tachibana-san." He then directed his attention to three once more. The voice held a degree of seriousness which meant that the important thing he would ask of them to do if they agree to take the prefect position was rather on a matter which warrants careful thinking. "For the next words apply to all of you."

His eyes of black held an edge as his hands were now placed before him with them interlaced with each other. "I will offer you three to be prefects whether you accept it or not depends on you." He paused for a moment as he looked at the three to provide them the opportunity to think. After all, he would not force them to take this position. "Your experiences make you all qualified to ensure that tragedy will not happen ever again." Once that was stated, he released a small sigh as if the next thing he would say was lighter. It would not do good to dampen the situation with such things. "I believe in the former Headmaster's belief of co-existence and I will adhere to that." So, what did he mean by that exactly?

"As such, I would have both classes be joined as one in all schedules." He then took pause for a breather and letting the four to notice the implications of that. If that was so, why would there be a need for the designation of Day Class and Night Class? "But they will be separated by dorms, the reestablishment of the Sun and Moon Dorms. As for the share of the main building. The east wing will be for the day class and the west wing will be occupied by the night class." Whether this was better or not, it was yet to be known. This only meant that both humans and vampires can have more opportunities to mingle especially during the lunch break but then again, it was still limited after-class hours. "Curfew will be strictly implemented as always. It is why I would need prefects to keep everyone at bay."

Observing the three candidates for the responsibility, Hughes then closed his eyes and then massaged the bridge of his nose for the next part. "Cross Academy is the symbol of the treaty between Humans and Vampires." So, this was rebuilt in an effort to keep true to that oath created in the past. He was not certain if they were aware who had been responsible to such a quick rehabilitation of Cross Academy. Well, it would be interesting to see their reactions. But, it was also nice to see them in suspense and in wonder. "And if any of you or all of you accept, I will have you do this duty you must never fail which I have informed Yamazaki-san."

The meeting went well. This was the general point of view provided by the Rosenkreuz pure-blood. He had heard of the new Hunter President and heard certain rumors and reputations. It fitted the man perfectly. The other odd thing, he felt extremely familiar towards the male. He has a conclusion why so, however, it was not making much sense. As a result, he had pushed that aside from his mind for now. All that mattered the treaty was renewed once more and he would be very busy with a personal matter he will be attending to. Yet, it does not mean that he would not be available when it comes to his duty and authority as the Formal Head of the Vampires. He will still be hands-on and this will not be changed by anyone.

"Master, everything had been prepared." O informed Zenith who was about to enter the limousine sent for his transportation. The fox familiar never left his Master's side during the whole discussion and renewal of the contract between the humans and vampires. He was completely in favor of it. However, he does not like the new Hunter President at all. The man known as Avalon was very shady. But then again, he also has a great wit and intelligence that was at par with his Master. For once, he had never seen such a heated debate done in a few words. It was rather amusing and yet not good for the heart. O believe that the entourage feared a possible altercation but it still ended on preferable terms.

One thing was for sure. His Master does not like that Hunter President. Truly, it was a very hard thing to be someone like that in his Master's eyes. A really hard thing to do, no matter what. Well other than that, he was rather skeptical about the other decision of his Master even if it was for the promising advocacy of the peace treaty and to show that order was put into place in a secure manner. But as usual, he cannot change his Master's mind in this. The white-haired pure-blood was determined to accomplish his wish, his dream at every means possible. Zenith heard his familiar's information as he simply nodded and entered his vehicle. Tomorrow, a new chapter will be written. This time, there was no invitation. It will be purely on a personal connection and goal.

Taking a deep breath, Hughes revealed the important duty. "I will have you the prefects, welcome, secure, and assure the safety of a student of ours." He started out and watched their reactions. They must be wondering who the student is and rather very important to have the prefects ensure such safety. Well, why not? If this student was ever harm, a war will break out. An all-out war without fail which will be revealed to the world and this person never lies. "This student will be coming tomorrow. A night class student, the Head of the Vampire Society, Zenith Rosenkreuz."

“This world is nothing but crazy.”

Haruka watched Asuka carefully as she entered, they had kept in touch, but never face to face, she understood that the other girl had also suffered a great loss, she didn't wish to bother the girl now, even if the new hair cut wasn't what she had expected. Then her eyes traveled towards Sora, she had only met him once more, and that was before everything had happened, through she could still see the differences, she could see the differences in all of them. It was actually rather sad. Suddenly, something warm and small jumped down into her lap. The red head blinked down at in the kitten in confusion as it settled down. Comfort flooded her sense as she allowed herself to relax and gently pet the kitten, Haru still couldn't place the memory, it was right there, it felt important, but she couldn't place it.

"It is good to have all of you here." She looked back up at the man as her eyes hardened once more, she still didn't trust him. "I want you to listen well about this, Tachibana-san." Haruka looked towards Kaede and frowned. For some reason she didn't want the girl around this man, he felt dangerous to her, and Haruka felt like she should have snatched the cookie out of the girls hand and threw it to the ground, not to be rude, but instead, to protect. Where did the cookies come from anyway? What kind of weirdo keeps a plate of cookies just laying around? She turned back towards the Headmaster and couldn't help the small smile that spread out across her face. Gay men. She looked up towards the roof and covered her laughter with a light cough. That explains a lot... Her amusement was cut short by his tone. "For the next words apply to all of you." She frowned once more. So he was a grumpy gay man, well it was better than a headmaster that ran around in a pink tootoo. She nearly shuddered at the thought.

"I will offer you three to be prefects whether you accept it or not depends on you." Haruka looked back towards him and allowed herself to lean back slightly, she felt better now that Asuka and Sora were here. "Your experiences make you all qualified to ensure that tragedy will not happen ever again." She stiffened and looked down at the ground, half expecting blood stains to be there. "I believe in the former Headmaster's belief of co-existence and I will adhere to that." Haruka carefully petted the cat in her lap, pretending she didn't just hear him mention the old headmaster. Out of everyone in the room at the moment, she was the only one to attend his funeral, she hadn't cried over since that day, she didn't plan on crying about it now.

"As such, I would have both classes be joined as one in all schedules." Her hand paused in her petting as her eyes snapped up to his face. Oh my god, he is insane... "But they will be separated by dorms, the reestablishment of the Sun and Moon Dorms. As for the share of the main building. The east wing will be for the day class and the west wing will be occupied by the night class." Did that make sense? Didn't the night class have classes at the end of the day for a reason? "Curfew will be strictly implemented as always. It is why I would need prefects to keep everyone at bay."

"Cross Academy is the symbol of the treaty between Humans and Vampires." She let out a small breath in defeat. If this Academy meany so much to both worlds, if the Prefects job meant so much to keeping the peace, there was nothing her could say that would make her refuse. There was no way out of this. "And if any of you or all of you accept, I will have you do this duty you must never fail which I have informed Yamazaki-san." Haruka gritted her teeth and looked out the window. She had to reframe from snapping at the man about her last name, and instead took to petting the cat once more. What was the duty they would have to preform without fail? What could possible be more important than protecting the students of the academy? Unless...

"I will have you the prefects, welcome, secure, and assure the safety of a student of ours." She blinked in confusion at the Headmaster. How could one student be so important? If it was like...the presidents daughter, then yeah, that made sense, but there was no way... "This student will be coming tomorrow. A night class student, the Head of the Vampire Society, Zenith Rosenkreuz." Her breath hitched as the faded bruise that had once been upon her neck burned. She pulled the kitten closer to her and stared at the man in horror. "Your...Your letting him come back here? After he destroyed the Academy?! After he killed the Headmaster?" She stood up abruptly, still cradling the kitten in her arms. She couldn't sit any longer, Haru felt sick to her stomach. The red head begun to pace around the room, her face shifting from anger to disbelieving, to rage, sadness, and pain, all at once. "Your insane..." She stopped by the window and stared out it for a moment before spinning around staring at him with blank eyes once more as her face relaxed into a mask. "One good reason, and I'll agree. Why are you choosing us three?" Her eyes narrowed as she watched him carefully. "Is it because of what we went through when the Academy was blown to bits?" Her tone was cold as she spoke, clearly unforgiving to the one who had caused all of the pain and suffering, and partly angry at the man for rebuilding the Academy and bringing it back. The dead should have stayed dead. "or is it because of all of our connections with him. Her voice was bitter as she hugged the cat close to her chest, she remembered now.

"If I agree to this, I cannot guarantee that I will uphold that bargain. I want him dead as much as anyone else."

Asuka stared at the headmaster as if he'd grown an extra head. He wanted the prefects, Sora, herself, and possibly Haruka, to protect him? The one that was responsible for so many deaths, her brother's death, and the fall of Cross Academy in the first place? Surely this had to be a joke of some sort. And as such, Asuka laughed. It was a dry laugh but nonetheless it conveyed her thoughts. Surely this man had to know who was behind the crumbling foundation of the school, otherwise he wouldn't be letting that thing back onto school grounds. But what if he did know? This caused Asuka to stop in her laugh and fixed the Headmaster with another stare, almost as if she were trying to deduce what the man's intentions were truly. She couldn't read him, and as such, she sighed and folded her hands in her lap.

No, she wanted to say. There was no way she was going to protect the one responsible for so much misery, so much death. She couldn't. Zenith was her enemy, he had declared it as so. Not only hers, but everyone here at the Academy as well (at least the ones that remembered). Her eyes drifted to Haruka and then to Sora. She knew they must have felt the same, however; if they agreed to become his bodyguards, then she'd have no choice but to leave the school again. She couldn't be in the same place as that vampire, not without the intent to kill written all over her face. But this was just a petty feeling, perhaps there was more to it than just her own feelings. Taking in a deep breath, Asuka remained silent. She wouldn't give an answer quite yet, not until Sora and Haruka voiced their own thoughts.

Then, it hit her. He was the head of the vampire community? During her hunts, none of the other hunters she had paired with from time to time ever mentioned that the vampire community was under new law. This caused great confusion on her part. Were the vampires appointing him their leader because of what he had done at the Academy? If so, did they applaud what he did? It didn't make sense, she knew some vampires were against the union of their kind and humans. But that didn't justify anything no matter how deep the feelings ran. She pursed her lips together as she continued to shuffle the thoughts through her head. She missed what Haruka had spoken and continued to remain silent. If she accepted, she'd be able to get close to the Rosenkreuz pure-blood again. She could try and find a weakness of his, exploit it, and perhaps use it to her advantage. As much as she wanted to exact her revenge, the words of the Headmaster rang through her ears.

She didn't want to cause a war. The peace, everything everyone had worked so hard for would be put in jeopardy because of her selfishness. Hayate would never have second guessed his actions if it were she who were dead. But then again she never had his hatred of vampires, at least not until now. It was odd though. She hated a part of herself and yet, there was one that she didn't, couldn't bring herself to hate. She knew the reason why she couldn't hate him, but even then. She took in a deep breath, one that she hadn't meant to be so obvious before folding her hands over her legs. She directed her attention towards the Headmaster once more, eyes conveying nothing as she did so. She knew she would regret this, but there was no turning back now.

"I'll accept," she stated in a firm tone. "I am sure there are other pressing matters to attend to so I will make this quick. If, for any reason, any action should be repeated, I will not hesitate," she ended the sentence. The message was clear, she need not further emphasize her point. This Asuka, the one she had become, was not the same bright-eyed girl. She still hadn't released the pain of losing her family, and she wasn't sure she wanted to. Losing them felt like a part of her had died. She wasn't able to see Hayate's warm smile, nor her Uncle's loving embrace. She didn't have that any longer, however; her eyes softened a bit when she glanced at Haruka and Sora. She had them, her friends. Shouldn't that be enough? To see that they were still alive and well, shouldn't that be enough of a reason to let go of this pettiness of hers? She subconsciously rubbed her neck. That night, the night she first shared her secret, still played in her mind.

Zenith had been the first person she had ever revealed her secret to, albeit it wasn't on purpose either. She had seen his need, she wanted to fulfill it so that he wouldn't attack an innocent student. It wasn't something she had thought upon when it happened, hence why she reacted the way she had. A pure-bloods bite, their poison would not work on her because she was already half of what they were. She was a vampire as well. Asuka began biting on her lip, a habit she formed when she began hunting. Why, it was a source of comfort to her and she was always careful enough not to draw blood in the process. She was frustrated now and couldn't think properly. She just wanted this to be over and done with so she could resettle into the Academy once more. She'd have to get used to playing a student once more and she wasn't looking forward to tomorrow.

“In every situation, there is an advantage to be found. Do not close your eyes to it.”

When the Headmaster told her to listen carefully, Kaede’s eyes went wide and solemn, and she nodded. She was very good at listening—it was the reason that she and Sachiko were still alive. Even as a child, Kaede knew better than to let her fear or apprehension control her, and knew better than to cry too loudly in case she was found. She could also follow instructions, right away and exactly. And so she followed these, trying to keep track of the situation. The first part sounded good; the Headmaster was asking Sora to help protect the school, and the peace. Sora was even better at protecting things than Kaede was at listening, so she supposed it would be fine.

The second part was a bit confusing. The day class and the night class were both supposed to be during the day now? That was strange—why would they call it the night class if it was during the day? Sora said that the night class had people like he and Sachiko in it, and the day class was for people like her. She understood quite well the difference between humans and vampires, but she’d never really met many other humans before, so the thought of being all alone in a room full of them was strange, and perhaps even a little bit frightening. Maybe she could be in the night class, too? She’d ask Sora about it, later.

The last part was the strangest. Sachiko had told her that Zenith Rosenkreuz was a bad man, who had killed a lot of people with explosions, and destroyed the school before. He was dangerous, and Kaede should never even try to be near him, ever. But now the Headmaster wanted these three people to protect the dangerous man? From what? No, that didn’t seem right at all, and apparently Haruka-san did not think so either, since she called the headmaster a bunch of mean names (though not as mean as the ones Sora sometimes used on people) and clutched tighter to Midori, who ran her raspy tongue along the girl’s cheek, as if to soothe her. Kaede knew that Midori wasn’t really a cat, but part of Sora’s soul with a different personality. Midori was good at protecting people, too—maybe that was what she was doing now.

The other girl, the Fujiwara-san that Sora talked about sometimes, agreed to do it, though. Turning behind her a bit, Kaede looked at Sora, but he was still wearing the blank mask-face, the one not even she could read. His eyes flickered to her, then between the other girls in the room, and finally back to the headmaster. His arms were crossed over his chest, and he tilted his head to one side. But he was still impassive, and she couldn’t discern anything just from looking at him. She wondered if he was thinking about his family again. Sometimes, he looked like that when he remembered them, but he never looked like that when he was remembering Fujiwara-san. She wondered what the difference was.

“I’ll do it,” he said at last, but his voice was just as blank as his face, not a hint of his motives to be seen. Why would he want to protect a bad man? Kaede didn’t understand, but she knew that if Sora was doing it, then there was no need to worry. “What, specifically, are you asking of us? One day? His first week? The foreseeable future? Shifts or all at once?” He could have been asking about anything at all, from the weather to history, with that voice, but she knew it to be his professional one, like he had with clients on the phone. Was this another kind of job the Tsukinos did?

"Whether one succeeds or fails, it depends on the roll as the sun rises for a new era."

There were various reactions from that piece of information he had delivered. It was to be expected. After all, the Rosenkreuz pure-blood did take all of the blame from the nightmare that had showered on Cross Academy a year and a half ago. No one can deny that the damage done on that day would ever be forgotten much more forgiven. He could see disbelief, anger, revenge, and the mind of an assassin at work. The new Headmaster finds all of their reaction unique and added to their interesting spectrum of being. It was better to know where they stand when in face with the new King of Vampires.

First, he looked at Haruka who was in clear anger and confusion in the decision of allowing Zenith who had killed the previous Headmaster and destroyed the very foundation of this school to come back here. In a logical way of thinking, this was completely absurd and not of the best choices. However, there are reasons as to such events. "I was not the one who rebuilt this academy. I was merely assigned by the council of humans and hunters to uphold the school's values." His voice was evenly calm and was his face. He understood Haruka's intense dislike to this. Her connection to the former Headmaster was not an unknown factor to him and even more so, the tendrils of possible bond with the pure-blood during the school festival.

"The reconstruction and rehabilitation was headed by Rosenkreuz-san in an effort to renew the treaty between humans and vampires." He released a small sigh and had a rather conflicted look upon his coal black eyes. As if, he was not also in agreement in the attendance of the unstable and unpredictable white-haired pure-blood. However, what choice can he possibly have? This was done to show the vampire society and the hunters that the new authority among the creatures of the night supports co-existence. "Personally, I do not like him to attend. But, politics and propaganda are needed to ensure the stability between the humans and vampires. His presence deems the cooperation of his entire race."

He then glanced at Asuka and then to Sora. These two should know well the complicated and fragility of the entire system. As such, it was important to show a strong front more than anything else. He then returned to look at Haruka. "His crimes must be judged but since he is who he is, it should be the hunter's job. However, he now holds great power which makes him untouchable and the hunters would not want to destroy the semblance of order they have managed to retrieve." Leaning on his chair, he rubbed the bridge of his nose. This was truly a complicated situation. It is why he had asked the three of them to stand by the side of the Rosenkreuz Pure-blood.

"Although, I said secure and keep him safe. I also meant it the other way." His eyes hardened with such resolve and looked at the three he had asked to prefects. They were the only ones who would never waver before the pure-blood. Others will do so and possibly be taken. They knew the truth of the matter. They have hatred in their hearts. So, they will never be blinded to do what mus be done. "Make sure, there will be no repeats of his deeds. Stop him in whatever means you deemed necessary. Once, his actions show such hints." He then took a deep breath and wondered if he should tell Haruka about this or not. Perhaps, it would be better to do so. The girl was not able to focus on the duty unlike the other two trained in combat which give them the background of keeping their emotions in line. So, he will give him something to hold herself, to keep her calm in their meeting.

"I don't know if you're aware of this, Haruka-san." Hughes started as his eyes now held a degree of regret and sadness. Judging by the girl's reaction, she seemed not informed about this. The previous Headmaster made this piece of information very private at all costs. "The former Headmaster was bound to die. He was suffering from a disease that would soon claim his life. He only had a few weeks left." Letting the room be filled with silence, he allowed his words to settle in among the occupants of the room. Once, he was sure they comprehend it well. He continued on. "You were there when the previous Headmaster died. Did you not notice? He had a smile. He was at peace." As such, there were many speculations with what exactly happened between Zenith and the previous Headmaster. But, the only person who could divulge all was the incomprehensible pure-blood.

Hughes has no intentions to change their minds towards Zenith especially Haruka. However, the girl needs an anchor to keep her emotions in check. As far as experiences, the girl was still a newbie. "Anyway, I chose the three of you because of the connection you at some point established with him. At the same time, you all have personal reasons and goals in regards of him. With this, I know you three will be grounded and not be swayed by him." He narrowed his eyes in seriousness as he looked at the three of them and the next words that left his lips was nothing more but a fact and mystery all in all. "Simply put among all of known affiliations of Rosenkreuz-san in the past, you three were the only ones remaining alive and not killed by him. I don't know the reason but it must mean something to keep you three still in the plane of existence. So, I know that only the three of you can handle him."

His eyes then focused on Sora who asked about the details of this security mission. "I would have you three to keep close to him for a week under the premise of protection. Afterwards, it would be too suspicious if you stick near him all the time." Straightening himself, he tilted his head to side but those eyes of his remained vigilant and sharp much like of an eagle honing on a prey. "Still, I would still want the three of you to keep a close eye on him. There would be shifts and I would let you three to determine that. But, I will always require that there would be always one person on support."

After stating that, he cast his attention to Haruka. "I'm aware you have no combat training. I don't mind asking a hunter from the Association to train you or..." He trailed his words and looked at Asuka and Sora. "They could do so. Whatever the decision may be..." Returning his attention to Haruka, his face softened as if the serious talks had now been lifted. "Inform me." He released a large sigh and looked at the three with a warm gaze. "Cross Academy will be under your protection, Three Musketeers." He ended his statement with a smile and then winked at Kaede who should know the tales about such characters whether by cartoons or of live-action films. "I really want to keep everyone here safe and at peace. I really do." He softly said and looked at three again and gave them a small nod. As such, he would entrust this wish on them.

And soon, the tomorrow came as the present time. Golden eyes looked at the newly rebuilt Cross Academy as if it never had been harmed by anything. However, this was but a mere illusion. The scars and blood spilled will never be erased. The door to his vehicle opened as he stepped out. He already donned his usual white uniform. Nothing much has changed about the pure-blood. It was like a year and a half had never passed for him, but that was to be expected for someone like him. The first time, he came here. It was by the invitation of the Headmaster who he had killed. Now, he was here by his own volition. The servants informed him that his things had already arrived before him and had been arranged. He dismissed them with a nod

After wards, he climbed up the stairs and soon came upon the main gates that were opened. Cherry blossoms filled the air with its scent and petals scurrying about. However, his deadpan expression met the three people he had never wished to cross paths ever again if possible. But as it would seem, their fates had already been intertwined ever since the first day they met. What truly a sad and cruel world this was.

“People adore monsters. They fill their songs and stories with them. You know what a monster is? Power. Power and choice. Monsters make choices. Monsters shape the world. Monsters force us to become stronger, smarter, better.”

Haruka sat silently as the new Headmaster addressed all of them and as the conversation drew closer and closer to an end, one thing was clear, she didn't have a choice. Through it was presented to her as a request, she just couldn't say now. Even if she hated Zenith for what he had done, she wanted nothing more than to keep the peace, she never wanted to see that kind of death again. "I don't know if you're aware of this, Haruka-san." She blinked in confusion and looked back up at the Headmaster, meeting her gaze steadily. "The former Headmaster was bound to die. He was suffering from a disease that would soon claim his life. He only had a few weeks left." She froze.

All at once it felt like the ground beneath her had collapsed, and now she was just standing on air. She felt the raspy tongue of the cat at it tired to sooth her, and in return she hugged the kitten closer to herself. "You were there when the previous Headmaster died. Did you not notice? He had a smile. He was at peace." She looked away, down towards the ground. She had known the man, he would have been happy for death, but not for being betrayed. Through she would never fully forgive Zenith for what he had done, she wouldn't try to hit him with a chair. That would be pointless, and the only one to get hurt would be the chair. She let out a deep breath and nodded slowly. "Thank you..." She mumbled softly, still not looking at anyone else in the room.

"Anyway, I chose the three of you because of the connection you at some point established with him. At the same time, you all have personal reasons and goals in regards of him. With this, I know you three will be grounded and not be swayed by him." Actually, this was making for sense to her now. Not as much as she wished, because there was still something going on behind the scenes that they were all being left out of, but she at least understood where this man was coming from now. "Simply put among all of known affiliations of Rosenkreuz-san in the past, you three were the only ones remaining alive and not killed by him. I don't know the reason but it must mean something to keep you three still in the plane of existence. So, I know that only the three of you can handle him." She found herself carefully petting the cat once more. She didn't want to be reminded of that day more than she always was. Mostly because I wanted him to just kill me then... "I'll do it." She choked out, still not looking at anyone. As silence filled the room for a split second, and then the Headmaster went on. It seemed he had his prefects.

"I would have you three to keep close to him for a week under the premise of protection. Afterwards, it would be too suspicious if you stick near him all the time." Haruka looked back up and quickly look away once more. As much as she wanted to trust this man like the old Headmaster, there was something...strange about him, that she didn't like. "Still, I would still want the three of you to keep a close eye on him. There would be shifts and I would let you three to determine that. But, I will always require that there would be always one person on support." She nodded more to herself than to him while looking towards Sora and Asuka. That makes sense. Most likely we would take turns with the shifts, it we all come together and plan it out carefully, we could set up a certain premier around him at all times, however when patrol is needed, only one person would be able to stay and keep an eye on him, while the other two take care of patrolling. her mind started to work like gears turning, plans and maps forming in her mind one by one and giving her new ideas as they went. It would be smarter to have Sora watch him while he's in classes, because they'll be there at the same time, however Sora would also be the best to watch him at night... She let out a sigh and tried to focus on what was going on around her.

"I'm aware you have no combat training. I don't mind asking a hunter from the Association to train you or..." As if she had read his mind, she also looked towards Sora and Asuka, and flinched. Could she ask Asuka? No...most likely not. Asuka cared too much for her health, she wouldn't train her properly if it included being injured, however, Sora, the Pure-Blood she barely knew, she might be able to ask him for a few lessons. "They could do so. Whatever the decision may be..." Haruka turned back towards Hughes and nodded in understanding."Inform me." She would have to think that over a bit, did she want a stranger to train her, or someone who would understand what she needed to be trained in. "Cross Academy will be under your protection, Three Musketeers." Haruka winced at the nickname. It was clear there was no going back now, it was truly up to the three of them to protect the school. "I really want to keep everyone here safe and at peace. I really do." Haruka returned his nod before silently leaving the room. There were some things she had to get in order for the following day.

Haru was horrified.

She had been given a weapon. Not just any weapon, but an Anti-Vampire weapon. It must come in the job description, because the small hand sized rod with the pointy end came with the prefect arm badge. At first, she had been very confused, how in the world could so fight a vampire with a tiny, pointy rod, however, that confusion vanished when she touched the little button on the and it grew nearly twice its size and the pointyness grew. Through it was heavy, it wasn't too heavy for her, and she could wield it as pleased. After she had shrunk it back down to it's normal size, Haruka had strapped it to her upper thigh so it was hidden by her skirt. For the first time in a long time, she wore the Academy's uniform. The only differences from half a year ago were the Prefect arm badge that she never thought she would wear, and she had pulled her long red hair up. Some of it still framed her face, and her bangs still lay in their original place. Through with her hair up, she did look a bit more...what was the word? Professional.

As she walked through the many hallways and towards the front gate, whispers could be heard by the other students, most of them watching her like a hawk. "I heard her and the other two Prefects were hear when the Academy was destroyed." Gasps could be heard as she rolled her eyes. All of them were getting more annoying lately. "I heard that's why they are the Prefects!" Well, they were smart, she would give them that, but not smart enough to wonder why the Academy needed Prefects in the first place. "Her hair is so pretty!" One of the girls she passed by gushed to her friend, who shook her head in return. I actually like how the other Prefect, Asuka, has her hair cute, it's so stylish!" Haruka was nearly running out of the hallway when she saw the doors, and in less than a minute she was standing in front of the memorial that had been made for all who had died. Haruka lost track of time as she stood in front of it, staring at the Headmasters name for a long time before she withdrew and headed towards the front gates once more. She arrived mere minuets before Zenith could be seen through the gate, and with a quiet sigh she put her masks up and per paired herself to meet with the devil once more. And so it begins...

"There was someone who once said 'The wise learn many things from their foes.' I intend to follow those words."

Asuka listened as the Headmaster spoke. She wanted to scoff at his choice of words, however; she bit her tongue and continued to remain silent. The only reason why he chose the three of them was because of a connection? What connection? The only thing she did was offer him blood in his time of need. She had once thought to consider him a friend and had at one time wanted to be his friend. But now, she wasn't sure of anything at the moment. She waited for the Headmaster to finish his speech before nodding in his direction. It would make sense for them to take shifts. Although Haruka agreed, she didn't want the girl putting herself in such necessary danger. She'd have to consult with the red-head later. She wanted Haruka on the Day watch, keeping an eye on him during the mornings and things like that. Sora and herself could take the evenings, nights, and class shifts. It wouldn't be a problem. The real question now was Haruka's training. The girl wasn't suited for combat, something Asuka grew up in and Sora as well. He was a trained assassin, she was a trained hunter, and Haruka was just a normal student.

"I'll train Haruka," she simply stated with no room for refute. She didn't want any harm to befall the girl, and although she would like to take it easy on the girl, she knew she couldn't. Her life was depending on it now. With that in mind, Asuka allowed her eyes to drift towards Sora and the other red-head present. She wanted to talk to Sora, however; she couldn't, or she wouldn't. What did she want to say to him? What could she say to him? Hey, how are you?, she thought as she sighed. Once the conversation was over, she glanced towards Haruka and stood. She bowed at the Headmaster before turning to Haruka. "Haruka, we'll begin your training starting first thing tomorrow after our shifts. As my friend, I will not take it easy on you," she stated with a smile before nodding her head in Sora's direction. With a repressed sigh, she made her way out of the door and walked down the hallway.

Tomorrow came too soon and Asuka hadn't slept that night. Hayate's face plagued her dreams and so did the countless others of the tragedy. They were constant reminders that she had woken up in the middle of he night covered in a cold sweat. Instead of falling back to sleep, she remained awake and stayed on the roof-top. She ran her fingers along her violin as the moon still lingered in the dark sky. It has been a year and a half since she last played it, and a part of her didn't want to. The only reason why she played in the first place was because her uncle had encouraged her to pick up something other than her hunter's training. A smile found it's way to her lips as she picked it up and placed it underneath her chin. She pulled the bow across the strings, listening to the sound it elicited before she closed her eyes.

"For you, Hayate, Uncle," she whispered to the wind as she began to play a soft melody. It wasn't loud enough for the students of the Academy to hear it, and if they did, it would only sound like a soothing lullaby to their ears. She allowed the song to finish as a familiar screech brought her back to her senses. Snow landed in front of her, perched atop the fence as she smiled at the owl. He nodded his head to acknowledge his master as she dropped the violin, not even wincing as it broke in half. She would have no purpose for it now. It would only bring unwanted memories, ones that she didn't need. Taking one last glance at the broken instrument, the sun peaking through the horizon and the soft chiming of the school bell signaled it was time for the day to begin.

She walked aimlessly through the hallways for awhile, ignoring the gossip that drifted from the student's mouths as she passed them. She could hear them speaking of the incident and why the three of them, Sora, Haruka, and herself, were chosen to be prefects. That was only partially true. They were there when the explosions happened. From time to time, Asuka could still see the hand that she had grasped, the severed arm and it caused chills to roll down her spine. It didn't help that her thirst couldn't be contained after that incident. She had to have the tablets as often as she drank water. Even now she could feel the burning at the back of her throat intensify with each breath she took. It was hard restraining herself, but she had to, for their sake. It wasn't long before she reached the front of the building and stared out the window.

"Today marks the beginning of the rest of this nightmare," she stated to no one as she forced herself out of the front doors. Immediately, her eyes were greeted by the familiar fiery red hair of Haruka, and she forced a smile on her face. She walked up to her, greeted her in a silent understanding before taking a spot on the right side of the girl. She kept her gaze forward, waiting for the one they were to escort and protect to arrive. "Haru-chan, I know you must have a lot of resentment towards Rosenkreuz, but please, don't do anything we would regret. I trust you enough because you are my friend and I do not want anything to happen to you. After we settle this, we will begin your training," Asuka spoke in a soft tone as to not sound over-bearing. Haruka was new to this. She didn't know the laws of hunters and the fragile thread that was the peace between humans and vampires. She could enlighten the girl of these as well. It would be helpful in keeping the pure-blood safe, as much as she didn't want to. With that in mind, it was only a matter of minutes before the pure-blood showed up.

“Let them plot and scheme. I will not grow weak and afraid for what might be.”

Sora needed no more explanation that he received. People were free to plot and plan as they chose, as long as they allowed him the courtesy of the same. And if they didn’t allow it, he’d take it anyway. That was just the way he was. Fujiwara volunteered to help Yamazaki train, but he thought he’d step in as well
for the both of them. A lifetime as long as his learning this sort of thing was more than even Asuka had, and he was sure the both of them could benefit from what he and Sachiko had to teach. They would need every last bit of help they could get, if they intended to stay alive and see this through to the end.

He hadn’t seen Midori in a while, but telepathy confirmed that she was with Yamazaki, and that was fine by him. The familiar would be a lot of extra protection while the human girl learned to defend herself as well as she could. She’d never be as fast or as strong as a vampire, but she could be smarter and more efficient, and that was what he’d probably have to focus on if he was going to help her with this. But that was a thought for another time.

Presently, the entire school seemed to be back to normal, if you could call it that when the entire population now had class at the same time. Even separated by wings, it was already proving to be a pain. He didn’t really understand what the draw of his own kind was for the humans. Well
that was a lie. He understood it perfectly. They were born to be predators, and a predator that didn’t look like one was just better, evolutionarily-speaking, than one that oozed threat like he did. The difference was, he didn’t need to look harmless. Nor did he want to.

Donning the long black coat that served as his signature accessory, Sora climbed out the window to his room and jumped to the ground, out of sight of any humans, of course. He smiled to himself, just a bit, at the soft sounds of Fujiwara’s music. It was like he’d developed an ear for it, over his time here, and grown used to hearing it even when it went beneath the notice of someone else. That had bothered him once, but he didn’t let it do so anymore. There were enough other things to be bothered about—he chose to let that one just be.

Jamming his hands into his pockets, Sora headed over to the others, taking his time so as to arrive right when Zenith was scheduled to. By the time he made it to the front gate, Fujiwara and Yamazaki were already there, talking abut training, it seemed. “Suppose that gives me first shift with his royal majesty,” he muttered in a low voice, the title clearly mocking. He could play along well enough, and he’d been a bodyguard before. One thing he’d learned was that the arrangement could work quite well even when neither party liked it at all. “Sachiko will help you train. She’s not as good as I am, but she knows a lot, some of which will help.” He made the statement not as an attempt to boast, but the simple truth of the matter.

He found it somewhat difficult to look Fujiwara in the eye, and he wasn’t quite certain why that was. It had been the same in the Headmaster’s office. He knew he’d have to figure it out eventually, and then probably take to her some more
they’d left a lot unsaid the last time they saw each other. And even if he didn’t know exactly what it all was supposed to be, he wasn’t the kind of person to run from his problems. He preferred to face them head-on. Whatever this was shouldn’t be any different.

He was quiet after that, though, simply awaiting the arrival of their oh-so-esteemed guest.

The reconstruction of Cross Academy had been headed by Zenith. He had implied to not change anything about the architecture and even the layout of the many buildings. But at the same time, he had implied to create a memorial for those who have suffered from the nightmare. This was his firm request which was done without any troubles. Many had posed questions to this gesture of his. It had not been publicly known that he was the caused of the tragedy. Most of the people knew that it was a ghastly terrorist attack and so on. But behind the cover-ups, the hunters and even the vampires knew what he had done. Well, the Rosenkreuz pure-blood did not hide or deny his involvement where most of the survivors which included the three people who survived had stated that he was the one behind such great sadness and pain.

Now, here he was again. The same sceneries. The same scents. The same uniforms. However, everything had now changed. On the outer appearance, everything was standing at a still. Inside, the chains and the consequences of the day will be forever etched. The stairs which he had climbed upon were broken and completely asunder when he had left this burning academy a year and a half ago. This time, there were no traces of such destruction. It was easy to rebuilt objects. But, it would never be easy to regain what has been lost. He would agree. It was priceless and countless. Those lives will never be taken back.

Eyes of golden which rivaled that of the blinding sun gazed at the three individuals standing before him with the usual impenetrable and emotionless look of his. He could tell that what happened from that day changed them. Why would it not? In front of Yamazaki, he killed the former Headmaster and showcased her that her life can easily be taken by him. Fujiwara, he had ordered O to kill the previous Hunter President but her brother, her cousin was caught in the middle resulting in the boy's death. In the end, he was the one responsible for that. To Tsukino, they never had any concrete relationship which was the same with the two girls. But he knew well, he is but a vile creature to the eyes of his former roommate. At the same time, he had declared to them that he will be their enemy from then on. Yes, it still stands as of now. He is the enemy.

Looking at the bands around their arms, they seemed to have attained the position as prefects once more. It was also the same with Yamazaki. Surprising, yet it never showed at all in any of his gestures. It was the same as always. He was still a blank in terms of his emotions. Although, he does understand why they had chosen to be so. More than that, he was quite intrigued as to why they had returned to this Academy. But then again, it could be said the same to him. They all have their reasons and they all have different paths to choose. After doing so, he calmly looked at the three once more. He had been informed that he will be escorted to the Headmaster first and then to his class. But, he was not informed about the detail of having bodyguards. “You must be the ones that will take me to Headmaster Jackson.”

His usual distant and polite manner of speaking was still the same. It was like the pure-blood had been frozen in time. His Cross Academy white uniform fitted him still perfectly. It was without doubt that he will be be quite popular with the populace of the academy once more like in the past. The only difference in his appearance, the rumored signature accessory was now revealed for all to see. His necklace with a crystal pendant rested perfectly at the center of his chest. It caught the gentle rays of the sun making it radiate various colors much like a prism would. This was an important token to him, very precious. Just like this, he does not appear to be such a dangerous being or even the one responsible for such a heinous crime. But, he was. He truly was.

He did not say anything further and waited for the three to escort him. O was not with him at the moment. He had asked his familiar to do a little errand for him. But, O will be joining him later in the day. Once, the three began to lead him which was not really needed. After all, the four of them knew this place more than anyone here at the moment could. But, this was a duty and a formality. Because, their situation has now completely changed. He was not simply a student anymore. He had become a criminal and now the Ruler of Vampires. For them, he was now an enemy. They were now out to claim his life. It made him wonder if he could still leisurely fall asleep as he had done in the past.

Following the three, Zenith did not say or do anything along the way. Although, some of the students who lingered the hallways did blush at his sight. There were even some whispers which his hearing could pick regardless. They were complimenting how beautiful he is, how hot he is, and if he was single or taken. Humans do really have a simple track of mind. They were enviable in that matter. Upon arriving at the Headmaster office, he entered and felt a certain sense of familiarity not towards someone but of this place. It was here he had ended the life of the former Headmaster. It was here he had claimed to be an enemy. "It is good to know you have arrived safely, Rosenkreuz-san."

This man is known to him. He was the one at the School Festival, the one who had warned him with such riddles. He was involved with that boy. There was no definite proof but, he concluded this. So, this was now the person in-charge of this school. “We have met.” Zenith stated with his trademark of a monotone voice. Hughes was now before the pure-blood and was about to offer a handshake. But, yes that was true. They had met. He lowered his hands and offered a small smile instead. "Yes, I was at the school festival. Sometime, one could laugh how life can twist everything around." Zenith remained motionless for a good minute before speaking further. Clearly, he did not show any sign of apprehension but that is what the pure-blood does best. He never shows anything. “Zenith Kline Rosenkreuz, it is nice to meet you officially.”

Hughes cannot help but find Zenith rather amusing. Sora was also the master of controlling and hiding emotions. However, this white-haired pure-blood was different in the way he presents himself. It was very entertaining. He reached out his hand to him. "Hughes Jackson, I share the same sentiment. Welcome back to Cross Academy." Ending the handshake, Hughes looked at the three prefects around the Pure-blood King. This was the beginning of their duty. At the same time, the start of something else without a doubt. This much he could tell. "Everything had been prepared prior to your arrival. I don't think I need to introduce the prefects to you anymore." Zenith gave a nod at this. There was no need for introductions and he also did not removed his eyes on Hughes' face.

"I would not delay you four anymore. They would be escorting you to your class and will serve as your guards until you get used to things here." Hughes stated without much dissonance in his tone. As for Zenith, he was not informed of this. Furthermore, there was no need for such things. He was truly a new student to begin with. “There is no need for that.” Hughes knew that Zenith would say that. He took a deep breath and met those golden eyes that revealed nothing about its owner. "There is." There was strength and seriousness in the way Hughes released those words. From that, Zenith knew this man was not to be trifled with even more so from his interactions with Hughes during the festival. Whatever game was being played right now, they were currently at a stale.

A moment of silence before Zenith conceded to such arrangements. His answer was a mere nod which made Hughes smiled brightly something so similar of the previous Headmaster. "I'm glad we came to an understanding. Now, off to classes you four and have a nice day." With that said, the four of them were ushered out of the office. Zenith looked at the class card handed to him a moment ago. This depicted his schedules as a student. More importantly, he looked at the three meant to be his guards. Well, there was another term to that. “Shall we go, Ms. Fujiwara, Ms. Yamazaki, Mr. Tsukino.”

Haruka smiled softly at Asuka as she spoke, she was greatful that she was willing to train her. "Thank you, Asuka." The red head spoke quietly and tried to focus on something other than the fact that they would have to be around him more than anyone wanted to. “Suppose that gives me first shift with his royal majesty,” Haruka blinked and turned towards Sora, one of her eyes brows raising as she pursed her lips, a funny thought forming in the back of her mind. “Sachiko will help you train. She’s not as good as I am, but she knows a lot, some of which will help.” Haruka nodded as thanks and looked up towards the sky. The thought in the back of her mind kept growing and growing until she couldn't keep it in anymore. "Hey Sora? Do you actually have to call him 'Majesty' or 'My Lord' now? Since he is like...the king of vampires...or something like that..." Haruka couldn't help the small cheeky grin that spread across her face. It would be rather amusing to see the dark haired boy try to keep a straight face while calling Zenith 'My Lord'.

Mostly because she wouldn't be able to do it with a straight face, not matter how hard she tried. After a short moment, because she could joke around about the matter further, the gates swung open and at the same moment something small hopped onto her left shoulder. Haruka looked down and blinked in confusion at the cat that now sat upon her shoulder. She figured that Midori belonged to Sora, and she was actually quite glad that the cat had hung around her so much, ever sense that day the small animal was an anchor for her, and she kitten was good company to be in, she felt safer with the animal on her should. After gently petting Midori, Haruka turned towards the white haired vampire. All amusement that had been upon her face a moment ago vanished in an instant was was left with a bored expression. “You must be the ones that will take me to Headmaster Jackson.” Haru found herself holding her breath, now she was second guessing this choice. She should have just flown to London and never returned to this dreadful Academy, let alone agreed to this job, but there was no turning back now. "Follow us." She replied simply before turning and following Asuka and Sora towards the Headmaster's office. She couldn't help but wonder if Zenith would also remember the man who was now the Headmaster, most likely he would, nothing slipped by the white haired Vampire, that much was clear.

The walk was silent, other than the annoying Day Class and all of their whispers that could be heard clearly by all of them, it was actually rather sad, they all thought they were being the most sneaky people in the world but Haruka could see every glance and hear every whisper. Perhaps she was too observant. "It is good to know you have arrived safely, Rosenkreuz-san." Haruka held the door open for the others, Zenith entered first, then Sora and Asuka followed, then herself. Haruka stood carefully by the door, on leg propped against it as she crossed her arms and observed the scene before her with bored eyes. “We have met.” Haruka nodded slightly, her eyes trained on the two men as if she was silently agreeing with the Vampire. They had met before, was there nothing strange about that? "Yes, I was at the school festival. Sometime, one could laugh how life can twist everything around." Her eyes narrowed as she gazed at the new Headmaster. Good cover story, how long did it take you to come up with that one? The red head shifted her gaze so she could look out the window. Something was going on, how could no one else see it? Clearly the 'Headmaster' was withholding information, surly if she could tell, the other bloody Vampires in the room could. “Zenith Kline Rosenkreuz, it is nice to meet you officially.”

Or not. She thought sarcastically while mentally rolling her eyes.

"Hughes Jackson, I share the same sentiment. Welcome back to Cross Academy." She turned back towards everyone else and met Hughes gaze steadily, her eyes still bored. "Everything had been prepared prior to your arrival. I don't think I need to introduce the prefects to you anymore." She wanted to laugh. There was no need for them to introduce themselves, not that it would go over well. 'Hi I'm Zenith Kline Rosenkreuz, I killed your brother, destoryed the Academy, and ripped out the Headmaster's heart! Nice to see all of you again, even through we are all enemies now and most of you are thinking about killing me!!' She rolled her eyes once more while holding back a snort. Yeah. That would go over real well.

"I would not delay you four anymore. They would be escorting you to your class and will serve as your guards until you get used to things here." She felt the tension rise in the room in an instant as she carefully begun to pet Midori. “There is no need for that.” The response was to be expected, but from the look at Hughes face, there was no avoiding the matter. "There is." The seriousness that was shown in the two words was enough to bring a whole building into silence and it sent a chill down her back. Everyone has two sides, a side that they show for the world to see, and the side that is hidden beneath the mask. There are no exceptions. It was something she now lived by, a code of honer in same ways. The Headmaster had told her that many many years ago, but lately she was thinking back on their conversations more than usual.

The silence dragged on for a moment before Zenith nodded in agreement but the tension did not fade from the room. "I'm glad we came to an understanding. Now, off to classes you four and have a nice day." Haruka wasn't planning on going to classes, at least not today, she felt no desire to go over the rules of a new school year with another boreing teacher, if she could, she would either slip away to the library, or keep an eye on Zenith. “Shall we go, Ms. Fujiwara, Ms. Yamazaki, Mr. Tsukino.” Her eye twitched at the use of her last name before she reached out and snatched his card from his hands and studied it quickly. After she was done doing so, she passed it over to Asuka and Sora so they could do the same. "We need to be aware of your schedules in order to keep watch on you." Haru said simply before glancing at Sora and silently asking him to lead the way, he would know where all of the classes were going to be held better than herself, if Haruka didn't think it was look strange, she would ask Midori to lead the way, but the kitten seemed happy parched upon her shoulder.

“Yet each man kills the thing he loves
By each let this be heard
Some do it with a bitter look
Some with a flattering word
The coward does it with a kiss
The brave man with a sword.”

Sora shot Haruka an aside glance, just barely avoiding rolling his eyes. “Depends,” he replied blandly. “Do you acknowledge his right to rule? I don’t.” And honestly, it was as simple as that. If he had to call Rosenkreuz anything, it would be just that—the same thing he’d always called him. His actual name. Titles were for people too important for their own good. He never used them.

So there was some tension between the terrorist and the shady Headmaster. Interesting. He wondered what it was, what it reflected, but he was sure he’d fond out eventually. They were all wrapped up far too tightly in this business, too close to the center of everything, for it to remain a secret forever. At least, he felt that was true of Fujiwara and Yamazaki. They and Rosenkreuz were bound up in something big, something likely sinister, and that was what his instinct told him. He
well, he was here on purpose. Approaching the eye of the hurricane, so to speak. If he wanted the answers, desired his vengeance in truth, then this is where he would find it, not out there, trimming weeds from the garden of lies.

He didn’t contribute to the exchange, though he did glance over the card Yamazaki handed him, memorizing the contents before handing it over to Fujiwara, still not looking at her more than he had to. “What do you know?” he muttered, mostly to himself. “Looks like I’ll actually be going to class for once.” He picked up on Yamazaki’s glance, and nodded shortly, taking the lead and angling for the first classroom. He highly doubted all of them were necessary at the moment—he could handle anything his classmates threw at Rosenkreuz, though the more they wandered through the hallways, the less it seemed he’d even have to worry about that. The guy would probably be as universally adored as always.

Doesn’t matter what’s underneath if the face is pretty enough, I guess, he thought to himself apathetically. It wasn’t like he gave a care for the thoughts of any of these people anyway. If they wanted to be deluded into thinking their leader was some kind of angel or saint, well
maybe delusion suited them. It would make his job easier, anyway, if nobody wanted to kill him.

Outside, at the agreed-upon training grounds, Sachiko was staring into the middle distance, her eyes faintly aglow with blue radiance. Kaede sat beside her, watchful for anyone coming by. Sachiko was strong, but vulnerable while using her powers, and so she had to be a good girl and make sure nothing snuck up on them, like Sora had taught her to do.

The older girl’s eyes dimmed, fading back into their deep grey color, and she sighed heavily, shaking her head. “One thing. He needs me to see one thing, and it’s the only other thing I can’t see
” Sachiko shook her head sadly, stretching out her legs to lean back on her hands and cross one ankle over another. This school uniform was kind of cute, she had to admit. Most of the girls here looked really nice in it. She wasn’t really sure how her scruffy cousin had managed to find himself in the company of the three prettiest people in the school, but he had. Then again, she reflected, he wasn’t so bad himself. The four of them, viewed from outside, as though they were friends rather than enemies and tense allies, could have been the stuff of fairy-stories or a glamorous movie of some kind.

Beautiful people, and probably not a beautiful intention on any of their minds at the moment. Such a shame that the world tended to scar on the inside what it left unblemished outside.

“Don’t worry, Sachiko. I’m sure that you and Sora-kun will figure it out.” Kaede’s words, so innocent and hopeful, filled with that particular adoration that only a child could truly manage, warmed her, and Sachiko smiled. “Of course we will,” she replied easily, smiling to chase away the unwelcome thoughts by force. She wasn’t so sure, really, and she had seen things that disturbed her. But Kaede didn’t need to know that.

Now, where were Haruka-chan and Asuka-chan? Sora had asked her to help with their training, but maybe they were still with Rosenkreuz-san. If so, she could wait. It wasn’t like she had a lot else to do at the moment.

"Once something is in your grasp, will you let it go, or will you cling to it selfishly?"

Asuka returned Haruka's smile and waited for Zenith to appear. Sora made his presence known and Asuka found herself staring at the black-haired pure-blood, a frown marring her face in the process. There were a lot of words that were left unspoken between the two, and she wanted to speak with him. But where would she start? She didn't even know what she wanted to tell him, but somewhere deep inside, she knew. She offered a small smile to the pure-blood before glancing away and inwardly chuckling at his statement. Haruka's next sentence caused her to snort slightly. It was funny thinking about it. If Zenith was the Head of the vampire council now, then technically, Sora's statement held a bit of truth. He would be considered Lord or King in terms of the vampires, but to Asuka, he was still Rosenkreuz. No formalities would be given even if they were required of her to do so. As such, the white-haired vampire made his appearance and addressed them.

Asuka merely addressed him with a slight tilt of her head, not a full on nod, but it conveyed her message. As such, Haruka spoke first and told the white-haired male to follow them. Asuka stood at the back a bit, trying to contain the anger that was seething from every pore of her body, however; as trained to remain calm as she was, it did not show. Walking like this, it felt odd. There was an odd sensation about it and it felt rather nice. It was as if they were not momentarily enemies, and instead just four friends casually walking through the hallways. She could hear the murmur's of the other students, all gaping like suffocating fish towards both pure-bloods, and even a comment or two about Haruka. It caused a sad smile to cross her features. Could this have been them if Zenith hadn't betrayed them? She pushed the thought out of her mind, her face returning to it's earlier state as they approached the Headmaster's office. Sora led the way with Haruka coming in last.

Words. Only words were spoken between the Headmaster and Zenith. Asuka did not need to hear what was spoken, she already knew what was required of them. Why should it have to be repeated? Regardless, her attention drifted towards Sora. He seemed a bit more distant than usual and it caused her to frown. What is wrong with you, Sora, she thought before her attention was garnered by their dismissal. She was the first out of the room, followed by her companions. Haruka seemed to have snatched Zenith's class card, causing Asuka to shake her head slightly before said card was placed in her hands. She blinked at it, memorizing what was important before handing it back to the pure-blood it belonged to. She stared, trying to read his amber gaze, however; she found herself unable to. Sora's statement caused her to raise an eyebrow. That's right, I forgot, she thought. There were times when she'd catch the Tsukino pure-blood skipping his classes and reprimanding him for it. They were less than pleasant conversations back then, but then again, when were their colloquies ever pleasant?

"Haru-chan, Sora will take the first rounds," she began as she glanced at said pure-blood. "I doubt we are both needed at the moment. We could use this spare time to begin your training," she addressed the red-head, glancing at Sora in the process and nodding in his direction. Given who he was, she knew that Sora could handle a few students in the school on his own. Haruka was still untrained and that needed to be corrected as quickly as posssble. She was at risk thanks to her new position as prefect and it was something Asuka didn't want to take lightly. She couldn't lose her friend to something like this, especially given their situation as bodyguards in the process. She turned to Sora and sighed. She really needed to talk to him. She didn't understand why, but she needed to.

"You said Sachiko-chan was going to be training with us as well, we shall go meet her then. And Sora," she stated, grabbing Haruka's hand in the process and began dragging her away. A pregnant paused followed after the end of her statement. She wanted to speak with him now, but given their current situation, it wasn't the wisest thing to do. Instead, she settled for a dejected sigh and turned from him. "You and I have a lot to discuss," she finally stated before leaving with Haruka in tow. She remained silent for the time being, her mind shuffling through her current emotions. At the moment, the strongest one she felt was anger and confusion. Anger because of the deal she made in which felt like she signed her life away to protect the one responsible for the deaths of many people, including her cousin. Confusion, this was mainly felt because of Sora.

She couldn't understand why the pure-blood confused her so much as of late, and the lack of interaction between the two caused her to furrow her brows. She wasn't expecting a bright and bubbly reunion though. In fact, the way he was acting now seemed about right. There was nothing special going on here and there shouldn't be. She rubbed her head in frustration before turning to Haruka, offering a nervous laugh before sighing. In a matter of minutes, she finally reached the area where Sachiko was waiting for them. She offered a smile towards the black-haired girl and noticed the red-haired girl, the one from earlier, in her presence. She offered the red-haired girl a smile as well, however; it came out much warmer than she had intended to. Turning to Haruka, she grinned at the girl, coming off almost predatory with the way she grinned.

"Are you ready to have fun Haru-chan?"

“Life is an endless cycle of repetitive events. There was nothing to look forward to. But, it is always different when I am with these people. Why is that?”

His class card was taken out of his hand without much of a warning. It was not something for him to get upset or be annoyed about. This gesture was simply surprising although, it did not appear on his face as always. The pure-blood remained as stoic as ever. Responsible for such an act, it was no one else but the human girl he had once said to be strong and had declared did not belong to his world. Yet now, she was a prefect and was assigned to be one of his guards. It was but only a pretense this much he could tell. The Headmaster had other plans clearly. He did not trust the man at the school festival and it was still the same until now.

Yet at this moment, all he could do was to observe and to decide when needed. As such, it would be what he will do. The card was soon returned to his hand by the sole prefect before the darkness descended upon this academy. Now, she was not alone in the protection of this school. She has Yamazaki and Tsukino by her side. Thinking about it, he was the first one to know that she is a being hovering in the seams of two worlds. She trusted him with that secret. It still continues. This was a truth that he has no right to speak about. But yet again, he was also the one who pushed her into the abyss of pain by taking the life of her cousin.

Their eyes met briefly but nothing was revealed at all. Looking at his card once more, the classes were similar to the ones he had before. At the same time, it seemed that Tsukino will be accompanying him for today. As for the girls, they seemed to have a prior engagement which deals with training. It seemed that Yamazaki will be undergoing such a thing. To be a prefect, one would require a specific set of skills. The kind which would ensure her safety through physical means. After all, he was one of the threats and was even successful in bringing down the academy. Although, it was not something that he was proud of.

The consequences and the responsibility of the nightmare which had been brought down, he took all of it as his personal doing. This was much he could do. All of these thoughts were hidden safely in his head. Not a peak. Not a seep. There was nothing hat showed in his face or even in his yellow-amber eyes. He remained a blank canvass as always. Watching the two girls leave, he then looked at his current bodyguard. His former roommate who he had admired for his persona. Even now, this admiration of his never faded. He still envy the Tsukino pure-blood. This was much he was very certain about.

"Master." Zenith looked at his familiar who had finally returned. O looked at the Tsukino pure-blood and gave a nod of acknowledgement. After doing so, O climbed up his Master and was now perfectly perched on Zenith's shoulder. Those big and bright blue eyes looked at the profile of his Master before inquiring once more. "Did I interrupt something?" Golden eyes met the gaze of his familiar and simply shook his head. Nothing ever began. So, where would be the interruption? He walked and then stopped beside the other pure-blood. “Mr. Tsukino, do walk beside me.” After stating that, O closed his eyes and made himself comfortably lay on his Master's shoulder.

Hughes looked at the documents in his hands with a very bored expression. Affairs about such mundane chores about this school were not amusing to him enough. But then again, he finds it very entertaining. The half-breed, the human, the shadow, and the precious king, they were now once more gathered at one place. The Cross Academy which had been at one point burnt down was now rebuild to its former glory. He put the papers down on his desk and stood from his chair. It was about to begin again. The continuation of the nightmare which had been started a long time ago.

"What do you think will happen?" He asked to no one in particular as he looked at a piece of broken spectacles which was not his to begin with. Actually, it was a personal item of the deceased Headmaster. At some point, he had met the man in some business affair. They exchange some words and even shared some of their personal opinions. "I remember you asked me what I would do, if I was in your shoes." He then looked at the window behind him in which he had a wonderful view of the Cross Academy grounds. He had a small and amused smile on his lips. "I wonder if you would approve." It was then a ringing echoed through his office. It seemed the time for maintenance had began once more.

Zenith was now sitting inside his class with companion of Tsukino. As it would be expected, the Night Class even the teachers all bowed at his appearance. He was of course, their foremost ruler. Furthermore, the atmosphere in the room was very tense in silence. Everyone was fearful of him and at the same time very intimidated. The deeds of how he killed the Senate council, the destruction of Cross Academy, and the monarchy, he had established, these were all frightening in various angles. He was definitely a force to be reckoned. Even with his authority, many still vowed to remove him from his seat. To them, he was a vision of complete madness and a being of great beauty.

It was something he is used to. This had always been the case wherever he goes nowadays. So, there was no avoiding it at all. In addition, this was not different from before where the students flock to receive his attention which he does not understand up to this day. The class proceeded but it was bit on the clumsy and the teacher was unsure how to deliver the lectures in his presence. Perhaps, it would be better for him to attend tutorials than to be with others. He should consider that. Then, the school bell rang. It was time for lunch and this would be a bit tricky. After all, day and night clasases are joined together.

Haruka winced. They had been going over basic hand-to-hand combat all morning, and she was be lying if she said she was having fun. Once again, she wished she had just gone to London. Slowly, the red head pushed herself back up and stretched, her back popping like bubble wrap, which in turn, made her groan. It was basic combat, she understood that, but she also understood that Asuka didn't lie, when she had said she wouldn't go easy on her, she wasn't lying, and Haruka now regretted wearing her uniform. She had discarded her jacket, tie and shoes, so basically she was just fighting in her shirt, skirt and socks, not that she honestly minded, she would have does better if she were wearing better clothes. She was about to ask for a break when the school bell rang loudly, it was the lone single that it was time for lunch, which made a sense of uneasiness settle into her stomach. How well would Vampires and Human get along in order to have lunch. Well, they have gotten this far, they should be fine...still.. Haruka headed over to the tree where her jacket was hanging. Fire she put her tie back on, and then she slipped back on the jacket along with her shoes and Prefect arm badge. Once she was finished, she turned towards Asuka and smiled. "We can finish later Asu-chan, I wanna go make sure everything runs smoothly, and that he doesn't get jumped by girls." She paused slightly, the image of Zenith running from a fan club was actually rather amusing, not that he would run form them, most likely, he would just sit there like a friggin king and let them flaunt over him.

A surprisingly fly grin formed across he face as she gazed at the other girl. "Just wait here, I'll send Sora your way so you guys can have you...talk." Her grin stretched at the thought of having to play match maker between the two prefects, before she turned around and hurried off, through Haru stopped half way and let the small small bundle of fur hop onto her shoulder. "How am I going to get those two to work together?" She sighed while reaching up to gently pet behind the kitten's ear. Haruka needed Sora and Asuka to work out whatever had happened between the two of them if they were all going to work together for...well for as long as this Academy stayed in one piece. "I think it's time I stepped in and got them to stop acting like two hormonal teenagers." Haru looked down at Midori and grinned, through every smile and grin she showed now was different from the ones she showed a year and a half ago, as much as she hated it, Haruka wasn't the same person. "Oh there they are..." Haruka mumbled, catching sight of the white haired Vampire and the dark haired Prefect.

However, before Haruka could get near them, a Day Class boy jumped in front of her and grinned sheepishly. Where have I seen that look before...? Her grin from a moment ago faded as she stared at the boy with a blank, bored stare. "What?" She snapped, her tone harsh. The boy shrunk back and flushed as he sputtered. "I was just going to ask if you wanted to go on a da-" She cut him off half way through his sentence. "No." And then she walked away towards the two Vampires. She poked Sora in the side and turned towards Zenith. "I'm going to borrow him for a second...don't move." She said simply, and then drug Sora away from the Pure-Blood. "Go find Asuka, she wants to talk to you, and don't not go. We need to get along to keep an eye on...that...and the tension between you guys could kill everyone within five miles." Haruka shook her head before lifting Midori off of her shoulder and setting her on Sora's head. "Make sure he doesn't skip out on their 'talk' okay?" She addressed the kitten rather than the boy and then smiled at both of them before she glanced at Zenith, her expression turning sour. "I'll make sure he doesn't get kidnapped by his new fan club." She huffed before pushing Sora in the direction Asuka was waiting.

She watched the male for a moment, making sure he didn't try and sneak off in a different direction, before she spun around and walked towards Zenith, her face set in the best mask she could contain. "Lead the way." She said simply. Haruka would end up just following him where ever he went...which actually was very awkward in some cases, but then again, that's what actual bodyguards did. If he wanted to get food, she would follow him to the lunch room, if he wanted to go to the Library, she would be silent while he read, if he needed to use the restroom, she would go get Sora and trade places again. Yep. It would be a rather simple day.

“I don’t think there was ever a time when I thought the world was black and white. The first thing I remember is learning all the shades of grey in between. Painfully.”

Sora didn’t say anything in particular as the two other prefects left. They’d agreed that Yamazaki needed training, and Fujiwara was bound to be a softer touch than he was, and closer to the level of power a human could attain. Maybe close enough to understand human limitation better than he did. Then again
he’d learned about human limitation pretty well, more than he really wanted to know. They departed, leaving him alone with Rosenkreuz, who seemed as detached from this fact as he was from everything else.

It was easier, that way, and he knew this truth intimately. To refuse to allow emotional connections to a transient world—it was much easier. Safer, smarter as well. But then
he was a little reckless, a little impulsive, and sometimes a little stupid, perhaps, so his mask was just that—a mask. Sometimes he wondered if Rosenkreuz even had feelings underneath his. But he did. Sora knew he did. And if he didn’t now, he had once; it was a simple and inevitable fact of life that nobody could avoid connections entirely. Even if the ones you ended up with were strange or even destructive, everyone was connected to something.

Sora raised a brow. Walking beside his charge was hardly the optimal position for protection, but whatever else he was, Rosenkreuz wasn’t a moron, and he would know that. Part of him instinctively balked at the notion; Tsukinos walked in shadows, not beside kings, false or otherwise, but in the end, he didn’t really care enough to protest. Shrugging, he fell into step. “If you say so,” he replied with extreme nonchalance.

The thing about Sora was, he didn’t hate. Hatred was a weakness, a much bigger weakness than love, because it was a connection to the world more controlling, more binding than love. It compelled, it forced, and quite often it drove people mad. So while the Tsukino hier—but he wasn’t that anymore, was he?—thought that the snow-crowned vampires actions were both despicable and immeasurably stupid, he didn’t hate him. Not the way Asuka did.

Minus himself, the entire classroom bowed to Zenith. Sora only rolled his eyes, taking the seat behind the other pureblood and keeping watch over the other students and the teacher rather than actually paying attention to the lecture. He was pretty sure anyone would be surprised to know he made excellent grades—he honestly didn’t care enough to put effort into such trivialities, but it wasn’t as if anything they taught here was challenging, anyway. The class passed with nothing eventful, save the occasional intercepting of an admiring look doubtless meant for his charge, which was always returned with a flat stare. His job would be considerably easier if these people gave Rosenkreuz a wide berth, which was much more likely with him around than one of the other two.

They made it to the lunch area itself with no major incidents. Some fan or another had tried to actually touch the ‘king,’ but her hand had been easily intercepted by Sora, and she’d gone scuttling off without another word. It may have even been accidental—the hallways were quite crowded. Funny, how he’d never noticed—he tended to navigate in irregular ways, and whenever he did use the hallway like most people, he didn’t have to worry about people accidentally touching him.

He was about to suggest a table in the corner, well away from the majority of the crowd, when Haruka appeared. He wasn’t sure when she’d decided it was appropriate to touch him or give him advice, but he found himself with his own familiar on his head and his body turned back towards the door, none of which he really protested. He could have, but Yamazaki was pretty all right, and didn’t seem terribly intimidated by him, which was actually a bit refreshing. “Fine,” he said, waving a hand to indicate that she didn’t need to prod him any further. “But if things get shitty here, call us. My number’s in your phone.” When exactly he’d done that, he didn’t say, and wasn’t planning on telling. He wasn’t an assassin for nothing—he could be very subtle when he wanted to.

Sachiko and Kaede must have cleared out of the training grounds too, because when he got there, she was the only one left. Suddenly much less sure of himself than usual, Sora shoved his hands in his pockets, moving with his accustomed silence to stand a few feet behind her. “Uh
hey.” It was admittedly not the best thing he could have said for his first words to her in a year and a half, but he wasn’t really sure what else to start with. So he asked a question that had been on his mind for a while.

“How have you been? More hunger problems or anything?” He cleared his throat faintly and tilted his head just a bit to one side, as though examining her facial expression for some hint of distress. “I never said it, but... I'm sorry about your cousin and uncle. I know how that feels." Which meant he sure as hell wasn't going to pry about it.

“Blossoms are scattered by the wind, the wind cares nothing, but the blossoms of the heart no wind can touch.”

The sound of the bell echoed throughout the campus. He could hear the excited gaits of the students and even those among his class. Probably, they now had a reason to remove themselves from his presence. In any case, it was time for lunch. Standing from his seat, he knew that Tsukino would follow. It was his duty to do so. However, he did not move away from his desk quickly as concluded. There was the familiar hunger radiating from his throat and consciousness. Speaking of which, when was the last time he had managed to feed? Alice had been away for some errand and he had not been able to prepare himself for such a long absence.

It had been six weeks since he last fed. The blood pills were now a means to limit his thirst never to prevent it ever since he had tasted blood. Its former effects on him were now but an illusion. Honestly, Alice's blood reawakened the deep-seated desire within him. Unfortunately, her blood was not enough anymore. It was never meant to satisfy him from the beginning. Of course, this was something he had chosen to keep to himself and was but a secret to everyone but him. As such. nothing was revealed about this by him at all. It would not be wise for him to gather himself with people. Usually, he would have quietly slipped away to some place where he could be alone which he always does.

Now, it was impossible for him to do so. He will always have someone with him and eyes watching every move he makes. Exiting the room, he was instantly met with crowded hallways. Well, this was a good news. The school still managed to have a huge populace of students despite such frightening pasts. Anyway, he was able to make his way as both from the day and night class were polite enough to create a notable space for him to walk through. There would be others who would want to approach him. Mostly, they belonged to the day class and were girls. Tsukino was not keen on that and made sure they stayed as mere spectators. Speaking of which, this would be his longest time in the company of his former roommate.

Upon reaching the lunch area, all eyes were on him. There were even others who attempted to hide their interest about the white-haired pure-blood. For the humans, they really wonder if it was possible for someone as beautiful as him to exist. They were completely awed. For the vampires, they cannot believe that such a person was their leader whether by great revere or by great fear. In any case, he did not like to stay here any longer than it was necessary. After all, he was not going to eat anything. His hunger was the different kind. He was about to inform Tsukino when Yamazaki appeared. It would seem that the training session was now over.

Tsukino was immediately taken away from his side while Yamazaki told him to not move. In that spare moment, the girls that had the mentality of a hunter approached the now lone pure-blood. As usual, he did not turn them down or pushed them away. They looked at them with his emotionless eyes and answered their questions with politeness etched in a distant tone. However, it did not dissuade them rather, it only serve for them to appeal more to him. There were man inquiries about him. Was he a foreigner? Was he friends with the black-haired pure-blood? What was his name? Was he single? He answered all of them, “No. No. Zenith Kline Rosenkreuz. ---” When the answer to the most important question for the crowd that flocked around him was about to be released, Yamazaki had returned.

A switch with his guard had been made. Well, it was not like he cared for it at all. As per her duty, she would watch over him. The pure-blood simply gave a nod at her words and politely excused himself from the people who were adamantly curious about him. At his exit from the cafeteria, he could hear some comments of the night class to the day class like, they should keep away from him. He was far out of their reach. It seemed there was still among his kind that disliked him being around humans whether by choice or not. These kind of reactions were normal. He had been subjected to such eager protection many times.

Anyway, he made his way out of the main building. When Cross Academy was built, he had implied that nothing must be changed of its layout and architecture. They complied perfectly and with that, he soon came upon a clearing. There a large cherry blossom tree stood immemorial. The petals were slowly falling to the ground as if it were ran. Such, a beautiful sight. It was one of the things that had withstood all the tragedies of this school. So, it had become the silent witness to everything. Others called it a miracle. For him, he was simply grateful it was not destroyed in the chaos.

He approached it and placed a hand upon its trunk. Zenith stood out prominently due to his coloring of white hair and uniform. At a distance, many would have concluded him to be a ghost, a very mesmerizing and beautiful spirit. He simply stood there for a few minutes before taking a seat underneath it. This place was well-hidden and away from the buildings. It was probably the reason it had not been affected by the explosions. He laid his back against the bark and then took out a book from his jacket. It was the only book he always read despite his claims that it a literature he despised. This was one of his eccentricities.

As if no one else around him, Zenith remained in that relaxed position. He does know that Yamazaki was with him. But, there was no reason for him to interact with her. If his actions in the past were not clear enough, he would not know what to do to imply that. Furthermore, he could feel his thirst creeping out. He took out a small bottle from his pockets and opened it to procure two blood pills. Without much of a delay, he placed it inside his mouth and continued with his reading. This would make his thirst tolerable for him. But, he was definitely parched even if nothing showed upon him. He was completely and undeniably fine.

But as time passed, it was yet again the same thing for him. His eyes slowly come to a close. The pure-blood still undergoes sleeping spells. Just like that, he had soon entered the land of dreams. The book he was reading was now haphazardly discarded to his lap. His head leaning against the trunk with a slight tilt. Breathing so steady and calm. If anyone would see him, he was such a vision against the fully bloomed Sakura tree. The petals continued to fall as some were already on his clothes and hair. The pleasant smell of its blossoms also meshed perfectly with his own natural one of roses. He looked so heavenly if only that was really true, if only... Just like that, he fell asleep before his guard.

"I've given everything and asked for nothing. So I won't ask."

True to her word, Asuka had not taken it easy on Haruka. She felt bad about doing the things she did, however; in her mind, it was the only way Haruka would learn how to properly defend herself. While she had been taught the ways of a hunter, she was sure that whatever Sachiko and Sora could teach Haruka would be more beneficial than what she could offer. As such, the signal of the bell captured her attention as Haruka muttered a few words, but Asuka hadn't been paying attention. Snow had been relaying a message around the same time Haruka had spoken. She nodded her head slightly, almost as if she were agreeing to what Haruka had said, but she wasn't. She was agreeing to Snow who had informed her of Sora and Zenith's current situation. When she glanced around, Asuka finally took notice of Haruka's departure, but was informed of her whereabouts by the two girls who were there.

They dismissed each other, leaving Asuka alone on the training grounds in which she was thankful for. Although it was lunch time, she should do a round just in case, however; something kept her from leaving. She sat on the ground, not minding the cool breeze that fluttered through in the process. It felt nice against her heated skin, cooling it down so that she wasn't uncomfortable. She smiled, closing her eyes in the process. It was peaceful, something she missed about the school. It was almost as if nothing had ever happened, however; she wasn't ignorant. This was just blissful ignorance, and it wouldn't last. There would be something coming up, she could feel it in her bones and it ached. Stretching, she was satisfied when she heard the familiar pop of her bones and glanced at the bright sky. She was brought out of her reverie by the sound of a familiar voice.

"The hunger will never be satisfied. The thirst will always find a way to scratch at the back of my throat, but I think I have it under control at the moment," she replied to his first comment. She rubbed at her throat tenderly before dropping her hand to the side. She turned so that she was fully facing him. He then gave his condolences, in his own way of course, about her father and cousin. She smiled softly at the notion and shook her head. "Thanks, and I know. I saw some of your memories," she replied, tapping at her temples in the process. She had caught a glimpse of some of his memories that night she partook in his blood. The day after Zenith partook in hers, she had needed to replenish what she had lost. In the process, she had glimpsed at pieces of his life. At first it had confused her, but once she understood what was happening everything settled down. Because of his memories, she had wished that she had never drank his blood, even if her body desperately needed it. That was one of the reasons why she never wanted anyone to drink from her. She was afraid they would see what she truly was, and that had scared her. Now, it doesn't bother her as much but it was still a secret she wanted to keep.

There were two people in this world who knew what she was, or had a semblance of it. Haruka, she didn't count Haruka as one of those people because for all she knew, Haruka would see her as a vampire now. It wasn't that she didn't want to tell Haruka, it was that she didn't know how. She wanted to tell Haruka, but now wasn't the proper time. She began to chew on the bottom of her lip, shuffling uncomfortably in her spot. It was true that she wanted to talk to Sora, but she didn't know where to begin. Everything felt like a haze to her. She remained silent for a few minutes, shuffling through what she wanted to say, and how she would convey it. But then again, what words could be spoken between them? Everything had happened so quickly that she wasn't even sure of herself any longer. With a frustrated groan, before taking in a deep breath.

"I never properly thanked you for that day, when the explosions happened," she started. She referred to his embrace, the day countless students died. And Hayate. "I know it's not like you, but still, I just wanted to say that," she continued as she sighed, running a hand through her short hair. "You didn't have to do that, but I am glad you did," she stated, smiling a bit more in the process. She had truly appreciated the gesture. If he hadn't been there, she was afraid of what might have happened to her. She might have lost herself and numbed over with the death of her cousin. It almost happened again when some of the hunters informed her of her uncle's death. Of course his death wasn't by a vampire. It was by another human whom he had tried to help. That human doesn't exist any longer, and it wasn't because of her. Whatever had been chasing the man had finally caught up with him and had him exterminated. Taking a step closer to the pure-blood, Asuka stared at him almost as if she were trying to read his thoughts. She sighed in defeat before she stopped directly in front of him.

"That offer still stands you know. And I still consider you my friend and I want to keep that word. I said I wasn't going to let you starve so," she stated firmly, tilting her head slightly as she exposed her neck to him. It was a simple action that could be interpreted in two ways. Whichever way it was to be would be up to him.
