Description

â‚Ș Basics â‚Ș

|Full Name| Leon Cowen Male |Gender|

|Nicknames| Various Profanities, particularly “Bastard.” 22 |Age|

|Alias| ’Saber’ ‘Slick’ Cogni |Species|

â‚Ș Physical Appearance â‚Ș

Image

|Physical Appearance|
A spry and average height young man, Leon has a thin and more athletic build. Able to lift his own weight and having developed the ability to run continuously out of a necessity, close inspection of his biceps and the like reveal toned muscle, but still fitting his meagre size. With a regular complexion, Leon has charming green eyes, chiselled features and shimmering golden hair styled in that roguish, unkempt look. For the most part, his face is pretty flawless, and this blessing spreads throughout the rest of his body. Overall, he’s pretty good looking by most standards – and when you portray a view of confidence, that just makes it all the more apparent.

|Height| 5’4” (165cm)
|Weight| 130lbs (59kg)

|Scar Tissue|
Though hidden beneath his gloves, Leon has a multitude of scars on his hands, a natural set born out of his practice with knives and various other incidents.

|Tattoos|
Branded on his left hand is a Caduceus symbol, a mark representative of his previous ties with a thieves guild. Unlike typical versions of the symbol, the head of the rod is that of a skull, and the wings branching off of that are devil-like in nature.

â‚Ș Psychological Evaluation â‚Ș

|Personality|
To sum up Leon in a few words just would not do justice to him. Seriously, with the wit, charm and looks of a god, there’s no-one that couldn’t like him. His talents are limitless, and no matter what he does, he succeeds above and beyond expectations. Women throw themselves at his feet, begging him to even look at them. As it is, words can’t describe how incredible a man he actually is.

...

In reality, Leon is a chauvinistic asshole. He’s good looking and he knows it, maintaining a vain arrogance when it comes to appearance. But the cockiness doesn’t stop there, as his absolute faith in his skills and talents often leads him to constant bragging and remarks of just how easy everything is. Around others, he tends to either talk himself up, talk them down, or flirt with the ladies in mostly degrading ways. Should things go wrong, Leon never claims responsibility, often blaming others or putting it off to ‘being unlucky’. Despite the fact he’s an absolute jerk, he can be charming and polite when he wants, sourcing information or blending in with crowds as necessary – It’s just around people he knows does he demand attention be focused on him. On his own, he can be a little brooding, but he’ll quickly cover that up should someone approach him. Greedy and selfish, he’s not opposed to lying or stealing what he wants, or even overtly claiming a stake of what he wants no matter who he offends. After all, he’s a modern Adonis. He doesn’t have to respect anyone lower than him – and that’s everyone. Of course, there’s the odd occasion where he’ll need something from someone
In which case he tolerates being nice to them. Or at least, as arrogant as he’s able to get away with
Greedy, selfish, power-hungry and prideful, Leon is willing to do anything to get what he wants, and often can be quite possessive and stubborn, especially if someone questions his competence.

Also, there’s a few people he respects that he might be nice to. Maybe. He probably wouldn’t admit that. Additionally, he has a penchant for getting other people into trouble and spreading rumours. It’s a nasty habit.

â‚Ș General Equipment â‚Ș

|Weaponry|
|Kusarigama|
The primary weapon of Leon, a Kusarigama is a weighted chain and Kama (Sickle-Like weapon) connected together. This weapon can fulfil a variety of purposes, the chain defensively or offensively used to tangle foes or their weapons, while the Kama can be used to deftly strike near or far foes with a carefully placed slash or throw. With deft spinning of the chain, it can be hard for anyone to close in safely. On the odd occasion, this weapon can also be used like a thrown bola to ensnare someone’s legs and trip them. Additionally, a latch at the bottom allows for the attachment of alternate peripherals, whether that be a second Kusarigama, his Bladed Tonfa, or anything else with the universal connection. This weapon is typically coiled and attached up his sleeve, the blade portion of the Kama able to fold into the base for transport, allowing it to be drawn at a moment’s notice.

|Bladed Tonfa|
In the case of intense close combat, or should his Kusarigama be entangled with an opponent, Leon has access to a Bladed Tonfa sheathed near the back of his waist. Down his left arm he wears a metal plating should the blade be pushed back against him, but typically, the durable weapon will hold firmly against most melee weapons. Competent with a reverse grip, should their not be enough space to twirl his Kusarigama, this weapon also makes an appropriate substitute for close quarters. In short, this weapon is like a police nightstick
 except sharp.

|Dagger|
Sometimes, a giant Kusarigama and a Bladed Tonfa are a bit conspicuous. For that casual assassination work, slipping out of bindings, or just when he gets annoyed by the weight of things, Leon can use his sleight of hand to retrieve this knife from one of his many hiding places, be that his shoe, thigh, sleeve
Wherever he manages to pull that thing from. It also makes mean work of vegetables at the cooking bench, and can be used as a party trick with knife games and juggling.

|Attire|
Leon isn’t the kind to limit himself to one outfit, but given he didn’t get a chance to bring much belongings with him, he’s limited to his basic outfit. That being, A bronze pair of goggles, a dusted beige scarf and shirt, brown jacket, and some loose baggy pants. A criss-cross of bands and belts hold his various belongings strapped to him, and on each hand, a simple pair of brown leather gloves.

â‚Ș Abilities & Talents â‚Ș

|Natural Talents|
[Ambidextrous, Adroit, Adept Acrobat] – Leon has an amazing and uncanny talent for being physically capable. With an incredible sense of balance and spatial awareness, he’s quick with his hands and feet, and has put that to use learning a variety of tricks, acrobatics and the like (See Learned Skills)
[Savoir faire] – Able to think on his feet and respond appropriately to any situation, Leon is quick witted and street-smart, which is the only reason he’s survived as long as he has. He’s verbally fluent, able to spin a sweet tale of lies without giving the slightest hint of a falsehood, selling ice to Eskimos.
[Infuriating] – Though less of a skill and more of a natural side-effect of being better looking then everyone and flaunting his superiority, it is very, very, easy for Leon to get under someone’s skin.

|Learned Skills|
[Martial Arts - (Kusarigamajutsu)] – Leon has in most all aspects mastered his weapons, turning what would otherwise be a mouthy braggart into a dangerous foe. The discipline also helps him with his physical aptitude, making him fit and capable of fighting even without weapons – Though nowhere near as effective.
[Thieving] - A specialist in acquisitions of all kinds, Leon is a reputable and legitimate businessman. Or so he says. Pickpocketing, Lock-Picking, Burglary, Theft, Assassination, Forgery, Robbery, Con-work, Leon has been involved in most all the underside has to offer. Though he has a penchant for certain skills over others, he’s capable of each in his own right.
[Ninja-Like] – This skill is also a set, much like his thieving talents. Acrobatics, Stealth, Reflexes, Climbing, Sliding, Sneaking, Leon can capably slip in and out of the shadows with ease, maintaining silence on those ‘delicate’ operations.
[Tricky] – Thievery is all well and good, but that’s not quite as glamorous when no-one knows you did anything. That said, sometimes Leon gets his kicks through a little showmanship and sleight of hand. After all, a little magic makes for quite a distraction, and all it takes is a lapse of focus to make his main profession easier.
[Gift of the Gab] – When he wants to, Leon can really put his charisma to good use. He can smooth talk, source information, barter, all kinds of things. Of course, all of these depend on his mood, and quite often he can offend someone with his ego if the chatter goes on too long

â‚Ș Personal History â‚Ș

|Learned Skills|

|History|
|Early Childhood|
Leon Cowen began existence as an everyday child of a peasant. Such a life was as tough as can be expected, Leon learning the skills of his family’s trade – That being, stealing whatever they could to get by. He was good at it – But never as talented as his older brother, which was always an area of frustration when his brother stole his earnings. It wasn’t until the age of five or six was he given an opportunity for something greater. One day, while fetching apples from the trees in the nearby mountains, he stumbled across a monk, though he didn’t quite know it at the time. Asking the man to assist him with retrieving the apples, Leon used the opportunity as a way to raid the man’s valuables, attempting to scamper off after claiming his prize. Once safely down the mountain, he found that his ‘earnings’ of the day, along with his knife were missing, the bag he’d managed to take from the man containing nothing but a map up the mountain. Curious, (And wanting his belongings back), Leon scaled the mountain, eventually locating a local monastery. After a lengthy discussion with the monk (who was also the leader of the group) Leon was given the opportunity to study and train as a disciple – on the condition that he forgo contact with his family. Crafty as ever in his youth, Leon agreed. After all, with free food, lodging, study, he’d get what he could out of the man and then return to his family when it suited him. Training under the master’s tutelage, Leon learnt to read, write, and began training his spirit and mind. Though a child compared to the other students, he quickly learnt and surpassed all of them through his fiery competitive nature – Though this same trait, along with his ego were constantly scrutinised by his teacher. Indeed, Leon’s greatest vice was always his greed and pride; and though he was given many lessons on the problems with such sins, he never took them to heart.
|Teenage Years|
One day Leon finally overstepped his boundaries, being exiled from the monastery – Though he didn’t entirely care too much by that point. He had what he wanted, and decided it was finally time to return to his family. What he found on his return surprised him a little. His brother had managed to join the elite guild of thieves “Phantom Death”, his mother and father having left to a better life with his brother’s earnings, while his younger sister had begun her training amongst the secretive society. It seemed despite what he learned, he was still in his brother’s shadow – and worse still, he had nothing to show for it. Demanding entry to the guild, Leon began working to earn his way up to the level of his brother, his training and talents proving him to be just as good as a number of their top agents. Still, if he wanted to surpass his brother, he’d have to do everything he had. He’d never killed someone at the monastery – In fact, he was pretty sure it went against everything he was taught. Yet, driven by his inferiority complex and pride, Leon began taking on the darker tasks of his guild – Hits and Assasinations, highway robbery and muggings. Though he questioned his intents and reasoning, reflecting back on his teachings; nothing was going to sway him from his goal of surpassing his brother. Finally, he earned his way into an examination to become a Reaper – One of the head assassins of Phantom Death. His challenge: To face down his brother, one that he met with eager confidence. Despite all his skills and talents however, he stood no chance, his brother unleashing unearthly powers that no Cogni could possibly use. Kenley, his brother, had become a Gemaret – And his final recommendation to his colleagues was that without such powers, Leon was unfit to be called among the Reapers.
|To Present Day|
Beaten but still determined, Leon’s confidence would not be wavered. Pouring his time into attempting to find a gem to give him the power to match his brother, Leon continued his work in Phantom Death, looking to find anyone with information on such ‘magical’ jewels. For the most part, his leads were fruitless, lies or other misleading information leaving him frustrated. His latest job took him to a cargo ship, where apparently a ‘Beautiful Jewel’ was being kept aboard. Whether a Varian gem shard or simply a prized possession, Leon intended to take it for his own purposes. What he found was neither, discovering a young girl manacled and locked in a cargo crate. She was pretty, that was certain, but the information he was given indicated that a prized possession was being shipped off to be sold
- Disgusted by what might have been occurring, along with awakening his inner morality and sympathy, Leon freed the girl, taking her back to what he believed to be the safety of the guild. Instead, it seemed he’d stumbled into something much bigger, the cargo ship belonging to the very guild he was a part of: Phantom Death. Ordered to return the girl for shipment, and met with nothing but derision and spite for his objections, Leon took the opportunity to escape with the girl known as Eve. Fleeing to the dock, Leon quickly ‘borrowed’ a vessel, though he wasn’t exactly a sailor. Thankfully for him, he encountered a pair of individuals happy enough to overlook his ‘illegitimate’ method of claiming a sea vessel, assisting him in getting it out of port. Partially indebted to Tawny and Jasper, and with no real home to return to, Leon decided he’d continue to travel with them. After all, he felt a degree of responsibility to the amnesiac girl of Eve and his search to find a Varian gem would likely be more successful beyond the reach of Phantom Death.

With a strong wind blowing through the ship's sails, the unnamed ship of Tawny and her crew was being prepared for a docking on the shores that were closest to the island's trading settlement: Valiër.

While it is a relatively small town, Valiër is the only one out of the four cities that is close to a shore that wasn't walled off by steep hills of rock, and thus has been known to attract merchant from every other town that wishes to sell their wares to visitors. Not that anyone visits it as often as they were used to, but we'll get to that later.

Anywho, as luck may have it, Valiër has set up a market this very day. Fairly helpful, considering the crew was docking to stock up on new rations. Their current stock had been used up, or was simply devoured. Makes sense, considering the crew now existed out of six people, not counting Tawny herself.

While the unofficial captain of the crew took the task of steering the ship into place, one or two other crew members had made sure that the large white sail was blocked from catching any wind. Wouldn't want the ship to suddenly roam on its own now, would we? After all that fuzz, Tawny carefully nudged the wheel so it steered the ship in a correct position for safe disembarking.

*Splash!*

The sound of a heavy object piercing through the waters, rang across the entirety of the ship, alerting anyone still within the lower decks of the vessel that they had arrived at their destination...

It wasn’t quite clear to anyone when Leon had got on deck. He hadn’t been there when they’d docked, that was for certain, but between Tawny’s yells and the time she’d gotten down the ladder, he had already made his way up and had silently slipped past Jasper and vaulted the side of the ship to the shore. Pacing up the beach, he made a quick scout ahead before heading back to the now pouting captain, arriving in time to hear both the feline and Jasper’s claim to staying on ship. He couldn’t imagine why – they spent more than enough time on the ship as it was, so any chance for shore leave was something any sane person would jump on.

“Figures the fat cat and the old man aren’t fit for a stroll into town.” He commented, having zipped silently to Tawny’s side, and possibly frightening the living daylights out of her. He was well aware that Jasper was not much older than him, but that didn’t stop him from using it as an insult. Listening in to the captain’s retort to the other two, he waited with his arms folded behind his head. Once he was certain he had Tawny’s attention, he spoke once more. “Still Scrawny, you can have the pleasure of my company til we reach the market. I know you’ll be sad to part ways, buuuutt I wouldn’t want you slowing down my business.” Smirking a bit to himself, a bustling place like Valier was a goldmine for people with his ‘unique’ talent. He’d make a bit of a killing today, though he’d have to keep a low profile if this was going to be an extended stay. Still, he had plenty of time. With a less than delicate touch, he gave a soft pat on Tawny's rear. "Unless you wanna have some fun instead, that is."

Rewind. Below deck, the slight jerk and splashing noises of the docking ship rose Eve from her daydream, causing her to awkwardly drop the book she’d been reading. Unlike the others, who each had a room on the second floor of the ship, she didn’t need sleep – so she’d taken up to reading in the dining room, with her meagre belongings being stored downstairs with the engine room. Taking a moment to crawl under the table and retrieve the novel she’d been reading, the piercing voice of the captain made her raise her head a little too fast, bumping it on the underside. Rubbing her head, she turned back to the doorway before sitting up, tucking the book under her arm. The last time she had gone shopping, there had been so many interesting things to see – though as she didn’t have any money on her, she was limited to just looking. Still, that was entertaining to her, and she was eager to do so again as she opened the door, carefully closing it behind her as she stepped out into the sun.

Seeing no sign of the captain, Eve made her way over to Jasper, listening in to determine Tawny’s location. On hearing Jasper’s question, her face fell just a little. The crew had already denied her travelling into town unsupervised after she’d attempted to follow Leon’s instructions on ‘Burden Relieving’ and gotten arrested. As a further consequence, she was instructed not to trust Mr. Cowen’s guidance, and had instead begun learning from Jasper. If he was not heading into town, then neither would she. “You will not be accompanying Captain Scrawny, Mr. Flynn?” Eve asked innocently, having adopted the moniker for their captain from Leon. That man was such a bad influence on the impressionable amnesiac

Had Jasper not asked such a question, Tawny might've had a brighter start of the day. Once more she shrugged, her eyes briefly glancing over Jasper with acted disinterest. “I'unno.” She muttered, raising her mechanical arm to rub the back of her head.

“Then again, weren't we running low on fix 'm majiggies?” To punctuate her words, Tawny raised her artificial limb, steam emitting from the shoulder parts as it moved higher and higher.

“You know I'll just end up buying parts found in the local junk yard.” Her words rang with a tone of silliness and glee. Although it was no laughing matter that Tawny really would end up buying second-tier parts.

“C'mon, you're the only man I trust with these kind of things~” The female pirate teased, only to have her brief moment of laughter interrupted by Bright, who had, yet again, settled on the crow's nest. Honestly, she's a cat... person. How can she not figure out that high places aren't the best spot to be for her?

“I'd rather you tag along, lazy! It'll be good for you to stand on solid ground.” Well, cats were the kind of animal to hate large bodies of water. Or at least, the cats Tawny had seen. Here's hoping that Bright may actually consider joining Tawny at the very least.

“Figures the fat cat and the old man aren’t fit for a stroll into town.”

A voice, that was all too familiar, rang close by Tawny's ears. Leon. Startled by his sudden appearance, the slightly disappointed pirate formed the words 'How did he get here?' with her lips, while not actually vocalising them.

Comprehending what the young thief just said, Tawny desperately pointed at him with the index finger of her gauntlet, angrily glancing at Jasper as to make a point of another reason he should come along.

During this barrage of arrivals, Eve had also made her appearance, asking if Jasper was really contemplating on staying with the vessel. Before the unofficial captain could respond however, Leon made another one of his many mistakes. That insolent buffoon!

Hiding the rather embarrassed look on her face, Tawny quickly answered Eve's question for Jasper. “No, Eve. Jasper is coming with me, because I don't want to spend an entire day with this... This pervert!” Her blue eyes briefly glared at Leon, the expression on his superior's face telling many bad tales that may be subject to happen if the thief continues with his shameless behaviour.

Admittedly, Bright couldn’t say she was a huge fan of being out on the open ocean, and Tawny’s mention of solid ground was probably valid. However, the cat girl had managed to get over her initial fear of water. That is, the sight of water, even large bodies of water, no longer freaked her out. But being in water and getting all sopping wet? Well, that was an entirely different matter. Though, the second one really depended on how those words were meant...

In any case, that meant her laziness and her desire to stay high up would have prevailed if not for one small detail, and that was the unofficial captain’s comment. She’d rather have Bright tag along than to let her stay on the ship? Well, that seemed to be a first for the cat girl. Now-a-days, it wasn’t often that someone wanted her company, after all. Or at least, someone who wasn’t looking for something more than just company.

Initially, this thought swayed Bright’s opinion towards heading out. It’s not like this meant the two of them would have to get buddy-buddy because of it, and plus, it would be unfair to Tawny if she continued to refuse, even though she definitely didn’t want to go. However, just as she was about to voice her reconsideration, someone came up from out of nowhere, insulting both Jasper and her as he sauntered up onto the deck...

Leon, as folks called him, was the primary reason Bright was regretting her decision as of late. Her distaste for the crew mostly came from this man, because while the rest of them weren’t incredibly terrible to her, Leon made up for their neutral stances, and Tawny barely made up the difference with her friendliness. Not only did he belittle her at every chance, but he’d already made a few moves that caused a rather violent reaction, one that fortunately didn’t result in any real violence or anything drastic. She simply bared her claws and teeth, hissing at the miscreant when her rump was squeezed. The display was an empty threat, one that was more a show to try and prevent him from trying it again, just in case she couldn’t keep her cat-like personality under wraps. It was definitely a good thing she’d kept it under control while he’d been around, and that no one knew about it. While Bright didn’t want anyone finding out about it, she especially wanted to keep it from Leon, because she knew he’d really take advantage of her when she was vulnerable like that.

Speaking of those few moves, as his companion, Eve, came onto the deck, it seemed he’d made yet another one, this time on Tawny, prompting her cheeks to go red from the embarrassment. Clearly she’d never really been treated like that before, but it was no matter. Her reaction was justified, shouting as she answered Eve’s question.

Eve was one of the few members of the crew, and perhaps the only one, that Bright felt like she could relate to, at least somewhat. The poor girl had lost her memory, and while socially she was an airhead, the way she acted was always kind and respectable, even if her actions may not reflect her true intentions. Still, Eve, along with Tawny, was one of the few reasons Bright still stuck around with the crew. If Jasper, Eve, Leon, and Tawny were all heading out, though, she did have a question to ask.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to stick around and stand watch over the ship?” Bright called down, trying her best to conceal her revulsion to Leon as he stared up at her, along with the rest of the crew. “Because I’m fine heading into town as long as that creep stays as far from us as possible. Not that he’d bring himself down by actually hanging with us supposed lowlifes, anyways, the stupid jerk.” She rolled her eyes before she continued. “But, if you want me to come along, uh...someone’s gonna have to help me down...” This seemed to be a trend every time Bright managed to get herself up to the crow’s nest. Half the time she’d need some help, and half the time she wouldn’t...

Jasper watched as Tawny came to the decision of having him come along with the shore party. Well, he was probably going to do so anyway, but still, having her get used to giving orders was good. She was also right about her buying second-rate pieces to fix the ship; it took a keen eye and the right know-how to find quality parts on a tight budget.

Having finished with the engineer for the time being, Tawny directed her attention towards Bright, who had been sleeping in the crow's nest. Jasper did wonder how exactly she got up there, but such a gymnastic feat was probably best witnessed rather than being told about. The catgirl seemed pretty intent on having a lie-in for the day, although there was no telling if she’d get out of bed or not.

“Figures the fat cat and the old man aren’t fit for a stroll into town.”

Jasper easily recognised that voice. Leon, the ship’s resident git and all-round troublemaker, had quietly walked past Jasper while he was looking up at the crow’s nest and had joined Tawny on dry land. He quickly checked his pockets while the thief’s attention was diverted, just to be on the safe side. Even though the guy had been particularly helpful in... “acquiring” a ship, he was still a total jerk. Jasper didn’t throw a retort in Leon’s direction. He’d simply bide his time until a suitable opportunity arose for sweet, sweet payback for the insults.

Eve had also come up on deck, not far behind Leon. In stark contrast to the former, she was very well-mannered, and even though there were times when she eluded the grasp of common sense, the girl was a smart one. Good company too, even though Jasper ended up doing most of the talking. Eve asked the engineer if he really was staying on the ship. However, Tawny answered that question before he managed to get a word in.

“No, Eve. Jasper is coming with me, because I don't want to spend an entire day with this... This pervert!”

Leon had just goosed the cap’n, hadn’t he? Okay, Jasper hadn’t exactly seen it happen, but he would’ve been prepared to bet his last doubloon on it. The thief was kinda predictable in that regard, after all. At any rate, Jasper was going with the shore party.

“C’mon, Eve. Let’s not keep ‘em waiting too long,” the engineer said to her as he disembarked using the rope ladder, reminding himself to look for the bloody gangplank later when he had the time. He walked back and forth a few paces, mostly as a bit of a warm-up for their little shopping trip.

Bright’s voice sailed down from the crow’s nest again, this time bringing up a valid point; someone would have to stay and guard the ship while the majority of the crew were away. Okay, she was giving the ol’ “You might have to help me down first” excuse, but then again, the crow’s nest was the best vantage point on the ship. Jasper wasn’t too fussed about whether she was coming or not, in all honesty. Theia and Senka had yet to show up, after all...

The salt-and-brine smell of the ocean breeze, the wind in her hair ... there were days she thought life simply did not get any better than this. And today, Theia clung to the boom at the bow of the ship as they came into port, her face turned toward the sun without a care in the world. Then, she could scent the faint odors of fish and fruit, and she gradually became aware of the indistinct chatter of people below until the plunk of the ship's anchor into the water broke her out of her trancelike state. Leaping off her perch on the bow, she landed with both knees bent, one hand pressed to the deck as she pushed up, the folds her skirt falling around her form.

When she heard Tawny call out to the crew, the words "Anyone" and "shopping" clearly reached her ears, and while neither of them were among her choices of things to do, she loved sightseeing and visiting new places. Lately, she had kept to herself, and it had been a long time since she'd done anything with the captain, so she owed her a little "girl-time."

Theia gave little more than a brief glance at the crow's nest and shook her head. She gripped the rigging ropes and barely climbed a quarter of the way up before stopping, toes curling around the abrasive ropes. Her dark hair tumbled across her back and The scar on her face was plainly visible as she peered up at Bright.

"Not this time," she half-muttered, the thought that Bright might soon come to rely on her too frequently to get down from those awfully high places crossing her mind. Best not to give her an opportunity.

Sighing, she waved the catgirl down, her rich island accent carried by the wind as she called out, "Come on, jump onto the lower platform and climb down the ropes! It's just like I showed you before."

Without giving her a chance to plead for further assistance, Theia deftly manuevered back down and sauntered across the deck, the shapely swell of her hips emphasizing her small waist. Even when she wasn't performing, she held that same air of confidence. Walk proud, the way her mother had taught her- shoulders back, exposing the graceful, almost swan-like lines of her collarbone, chest out (because, hey, if you've got it, flaunt it), and people will always think you're taller than you really are. She leaned down and checked one of the pockets she had sewn into her skirt, making sure her balisong knife was safely nestled there, and straightened, brushing back the hair cascading over her right shoulder and untangling a few strays from her hoop earring.

Long locks grazed the divet at the small of her back as she arched, stretching toward the sun, and tugged the covering over the left side of her face, fingertips brushing the length of her scar, from the sliver of hair missing along her brow to the thin, puckered line running down her cheek, and let it rest securely against her face, leaving just the opening over her eye. Patting her coinpurse, still somewhat weighty from her gig at their last port town, she heard the telltale jingle and couldn't help but smile. There was no way Tawny would let her get away without spending at least a fair third of it on herself, probably on some new outfit to add to her colorful, albeit meager wardrobe.

Dropping onto solid ground, she waited a beat or two for her "sea legs" to adjust, feeling as though the warm sand under her feet shifted lazily like a molten sea. Passing her gaze over Eve with a light smile, she narrowed her eyes sourly at Leon, still annoyed at his more than crude behavior over the past couple of nights. I have nothing to say to you, her eyes seemed to say. She briefly looked up to see if Bright had managed to make her way down, yet, that closed-lipped smile finding her full mouth once more and broadening ever-so-slightly as her gaze settled on Tawny and Jasper.

"Well, I suppose I could land us a spot at the local tavern tonight. You can count me in, too."

“Hey, don’t knock it til you’ve tried it toots. Most girls would pay just for a night with me.” Leon gave Tawny a rather friendly grab around the shoulders, ignoring the pervert comment and obvious infuriation on her part. At least, until she made a point of breaking free from him, in which he gave a nonchalant shrug, turning his back to the crew and looking over the shore. Her loss really, but at least she was one of the less uptight members of the crew.

As the captain declared Jasper would be accompanying her into town, Eve’s face brightened a little. “Well if that’s the case, would it be alright if I came along too, Lady Captain?” Eve asked over the rim of the ship, her face positively glowing with excitement. Jasper was the first to answer, confirming that she was invited along as she nodded, trotting over to the ladder. Leon, having skulked slightly away from the volatile captain, wasted no time in interjecting, chuckling a little as he stepped back and folded his arms behind his head. “Yeah Eve, get on down here. If sweet cheeks here doesn’t want you, I’ll let you spend the day with me.” Pointing a thumb to his chest, his other hand rested on Tawny’s head, once again invading her personal space.

“Thank you Leon the Great, but I think I’ll be happy to spend the day with Lady Tawny and Master Jasper.” Eve responded cheerily, causing Leon to scratch his head a little at her blunt rejection. Still, it seemed that in spite of the instructions from the rest of the crew, she couldn’t help but listen to Leon, retaining the title for him that he’d taught her. It was sometime around then that Eve heard Bright, turning to look up to the crow’s nest, catching sight of Theia attempting to coax her out. Intrigued, she waited on the side of the ship, before tentatively climbing down the ladder to shore, dusting herself off as she landed.

Sighing at the spectacle the resident scaredy cat had gotten into, Leon cupped his hands, shouting to make sure she could hear him. “I could help you down if you want Whiskers, but like, aren’t you a cat?! Just jump and land on your feet!” Placing his hands by his side again, even from this distance he could make out a glare from the kitten. Immediately however, his attention was diverted to the ever appreciated presence of Theia. The icey look he received did little to deter him as he gave a wolf-whistle, though it seemed she planned on ignoring him. That wasn’t going to work at all. “Free drinks, eh? That’s too kind of you toots. Maybe I’ll stick around then. It’s always nice having an entourage.”

“Entourage?” Eve asked curiously, Leon smirking at the opportunity to impart some of his ‘wisdom’.

“Yeah. Means worshippers. It’s important for guys to have a lot of them.”

“Is that why we need Miss Fayline?” Eve continued to inquire, oblivious to the misdirections Leon was applying.

“Heh, yeah. Exactly. She’s one of my escorts. You catch on quick.” Giving another thumbs up, Eve smiled a lot, always happy when she got praise.

“Does that mean I’m part of Mr. Flynn’s entourage?”

With Leon shamelessly flirting with pretty much every female crew member, Jasper couldn’t help but wonder why he didn’t do so with Eve. Maybe because taking advantage of her would’ve been a little too easy? As if to prove this, the thief was now misleading her once again, although in his defence (surprising to think of it that way) he was telling a half-truth. All Jasper had to do was give her the other half of the truth before things got out of hand.

“Eve, an entourage is a bunch of people who follow around someone who’s either more important than them or highly respected by them, and that someone isn’t just a guy who’s desperate to get the girls,” he explained patiently, giving a meaningful look towards Leon. Eve asked if she was part of the engineer’s entourage, causing him to give pause for thought while he came up with an answer that didn’t encourage the women to glare daggers at him, but also didn’t want to disappoint Eve.

“You can be part of my entourage if you want,” Jasper said to Eve, playfully ruffling her hair a little. She was just so adorable when she smiled like that, blissfully innocent to the darker things in life. He’d overheard Theia saying she could get the crew a spot at a tavern. Well, it’d be good to sleep in a bed that stayed perfectly still, not that the beds on the ship weren’t comfortable or anything. But if they had enough money left over, then he couldn't see the harm in staying in town for the night before heading off in the morning.

Figures, Leon wasn't impressed by Tawny's aggravating irritation. However, the moment the jerk invaded the woman's personal space a third time today, she wasn't far behind on jabbing either one of her daggers, or a crossbow bolt through those grabby hands of his.

He was an okay guy at times. Hell, weren't it for his place-me-on-a-pedestal attitude, Tawny may have granted him the joy of her playing along with this silly game.

The brief moment Tawny walked over the Eve and Jasper's side, her irritation had already sunk to the bottom of the sea. Though she couldn't say that the young girl's comment on rather spending time with the unofficial captain and first mate hadn't helped easing said irritation, as it did just that.

“D'aww~ you shouldn't break his pride, Eve. He already had to deal with one woman rejecting his charming proposition.” Giving the thief a playful wink, Tawny eased her way to Eve, leaning forward to whisper some words of advice into her ears. “'Sides, being Jasper's entourage would hardly be an improvement.”

Whether the young girl believed those words, was up to her. She was a fine girl, and albeit her social skills were a wee bit strange, Tawny could get along with her much easier than Leon. Probably because she is the complete opposite of a selfish git with a pride so large that it could inhabit an entire city.

Briefly pausing for a bit, Tawny turned her attention to the muffled sound of feet dropping on the sand that lay scattered on the shore. Or, what is the shore, actually.

“Tea! 'Bout sodding time. You are not planning on staying with the ship, right? Of course you weren't.” Tawny approached her female friend with joy, her arms briefly wrapping around Theia to give her a welcoming hug.

Out of all her companions, Theia was someone Tawny could share all her fun times with. On top of being a handy ally to combat Leon's piss taking comments with, that is.

Releasing the poor woman from her embrace, Tawny took a few steps back and couldn't help but form a massive grin as Theia mentioned they might be able to get a spot in the local tavern. It would be a welcoming change from the wobbly sleep-accommodation the crew was used to.

“Great idea! Does that mean we can go now? Err... After Bright has gotten over her height issue.” This would be a day to remember. First they'd get some provisions, then maybe they could browse some clothes, and after all that they'd celebrate with a drink.

Bright continued to lay on her stomach, her tail still slowly moving from side to side as she peered over the edge of the crow’s nest at the folks down below, a bit apprehensive about getting down. The crew continued to discuss both the trip to town and her ‘issue’, as one might call it, until Theia made her way over towards where all the chatter was. She glanced at Bright’s position on the boat and shook her head, the cat girl giving a smile as she watched the woman slowly climb the rigging ropes up to her. But when she stopped, Bright frowned. She patiently listened to her advice, struggling to hear through her accent a bit. After all, she wasn’t quite used to such things.

“J-jump down?” Bright stated, stumbling over her words. Sure, the cat girl liked acting all big and bad, but at times like these, she really was just a simple scaredy cat. Still, Bright stood up from her position on the ground, standing at the edge of the crow’s nest as she looked at the jump she was about to take. After all, if the crew really wanted her to come along, it’d be fair to climb down and talk to them about it at the very least. Even if that meant she had to deal with...

“I could help you down if you want Whiskers, but like, aren’t you a cat?! Just jump and land on your feet!”

Leon. That stupid jerk still irked her to no end. She glared at the blonde haired chauvinistic pig, narrowing her eyes before she retorted.

“Doesn’t mean the fall won’t still hurt, y’know! Just because I’m a cat doesn’t mean I have springs for legs.” She paused for a moment, before she added something, leaning forward towards him a bit as she did so. “So, why don’t you catch me instead? Oh, wait, I’m clearly way too beneath you for that. I wouldn’t want to sully your hands with my dirty lowlifeness!”

Of course, the exertion from speaking so loudly and so furiously at Leon caused her to lose her balance, and after a quick wave of her arms to attempt to regain her balance, her foot slipped and she began to fall. Almost comically, the cat’s arms and legs flailed about as she tried to gain some semblance of balance as she fell, passing the platform below and plummeting towards the deck. However, in a freakishly fast fashion, Bright’s cat-like reflexes reacted, and she reached out and grabbed the rigging rope, sliding down it briefly before she came to a stop. The cat girl shivered for a few moments, clinging to the rope with all fours as tightly as she possibly could before she finally realized she was safe. Slowly, Bright climbed down the rope, still shaking slightly, even once she got all the way down to the deck. Her hand stung a little from the rope burn, but the shock of the entire event prevented her from really feeling it fully. After looking at her hand and winced, she hoped that the minor injury would heal quickly.

“It’s fine. I’m...fine,” she stated, walking up to the group, a few of their eyes exhibiting at least a little bit of worry. After a few deep breaths, she turned to Tawny. “But...uh, anyways...if I come with you, you promise no one’s gonna run off with our ship, right? I mean, I know it’s not that likely, but it’s still a valid concern, I think...”

Still shaken from her fall, the cat’s normal standoffish disposition was somewhat lost, though it was slowly coming back...

“Well, in that case, so long as that dirty bugger keeps away from me and cuts the funny business, I think I’ll be right to come shopping with you guys. You’ll just have to point me to the nearest fish market once we get there, of course.” Bright managed to force a tiny little smile that faded fairly quickly afterwards.

With a simple nod to herself acknowledging that the catgirl's landing was, indeed, safe, the musician found herself being pulled into Tawny's heartfelt hug. As usual, she instinctively froze, but relaxed not a moment after and gave her a light squeeze in response before the captain let go. Though the embrace was not unwelcome, Tawny notwithstanding, Tea had never really been physically affectionate with the crew members in spite of her otherwise cheerful disposition toward most of them. Raising an eyebrow, she looked up briefly as the remaining crew made their way on deck or to shore, and turned to Leon, scoffing at his insistence upon scoring free drinks.

"Drinks, Pajudo?" she simpered, her accent slurring on the last syllable of the island profanity. "After last time, when you had too many and ended up face-"

She paused to glance at Eve, that coquettish smirk diminishing the instant she decided to leave out such a... trivial detail in favor of protecting the girl's vestal ears. Almost impishly, she cast sidelong glances at Tawny and Jasper, and put one hand on her hip, meeting Leon's wolfish stare with her head cocked to one side. "Puh! I'll buy a round for a song and bet your next pay I could drink you under the table."

Eve listened intently to Jasper, nodding as she took it in. An entourage was people following someone more respected
 Not someone desperate for girls
That made a lot of sense. Leon wasn’t desperate for girls in the slightest, and to her, he was highly respectable. Of course she and the others would be part of his entourage, and she’d be happy to show other people that she respected him that way – Though was she allowed to be in more than one? By Jasper and Leon’s definition, so long as she followed them around it would be okay, right? Giving a surprised squeak as Jasper placed his hand on her head, she smiled as he ruffled her hair, letting her know she was welcome to follow him. It was warm and affectionate, and it always made her feel good when she got a concept and was praised for it. “I’m happy to be a part of your entourage.” Genuinely pleased with herself, and that fact, she would happily follow Jasper and Leon around. Everyone was so smart and taught her so many things, it was only natural to respect them. After all, that book on etiquette said that respect of others is of the utmost importance.

Perhaps that was why when Tawny said something about breaking Leon’s pride it caused the girl to curiously tilt her head, speaking in slight confusion. “I would never aim to hurt The Great Leon, Lady Tawny
Please forgive me if I said anything to offend.” Giving a concise bow in apology, Leon couldn’t help but laugh at how Tawny’s jib had backfired a little. Eve was still terrible around sarcasm and non-literal phrasing, so the comment about Jasper made her just a bit concerned as she grasped Tawny’s sleeve. “Why not Lady Captain? I-Is there something wrong with being in his entourage?” For the moment however, it seemed her fear would not be eased as Theia made her way down, the Unofficial Captain’s attention immediately drawn over as she leapt into a hug. Nervously squirming where she was, Eve retreated to the company of Leon and Jasper, though her mind played over just why Jasper wasn’t an improvement on Leon. Jasper was incredible! But then, so was Leon
 Wait
Oh! That made sense! She was saying they were both just as good as each other! Relieved and satisfied with the most positive outcome, she clapped her hands together. “I get it now!” She stated aloud, probably a bit too loud for how quiet she normally was.

Leon smiled at the idea of drinks, remembering some of the ‘stances’ Theia had adopted when she’d had a few too many. Still, as she began to recall a certain bar-room tale, it was a rare moment where Leon decided to back down a little. Sort of. “Well, you’ve got me there, Pah-jew-doh.” Mimicing the term she’d used (though with a bit of butchering with his own accent) Leon wasn’t entirely sure what it meant, but he’d try it anyway. Smirking a bit, her response was a sign that he’d sufficiently mislead Theia that night into believing he was a ‘lightweight’ drinker. It was amazing what he could grope and get away with when people thought he was off his face
Ah, the warmth of Theia’s bosom
Now, falling into that was such a sweet, sweet embrace
Though pretending he remembered none of it was a true shame. That mischievous smirk still on his face, he shrugged at her next challenge. “Hey girl, when you try to outdrink me, everybody wins. But last I checked I’m the owner of this fine vessel, so you pay me for lodging. Though I suppose I can overlook some past expen-”

“Hey look, I managed to get her down anyway.” Leon stopped midsentence bragging to everyone as he watched Bright tumble from the crow’s nest, seemingly unaware or uncaring of how dangerous such an act was. Still, seemed he thought that the incident was something to take credit for, proudly rubbing his knuckles over his chest as he awaited Bright’s arrival. “Told you you’d be fine. I wouldn’t let anything happen to a body as fine as that.” Grinning as Bright came over, Leon scooted away before he received a new set of cuts down his arms. Instead, he directed his attention to the newest arrival to the scene, the ever mysterious Senka. Kid was weird, never did much. And, seeing as he didn’t have a pair of melons on his chest, Leon didn’t pay him much attention other than to use the guy’s inadequacies to prove how much more impressive he was. “No offence Senka, but at least if Bright stayed she could at least scare off a mouse – I really don’t think you’re going to be any worth when it comes to protecting my majestic vessel.”

Striding up the slight hill, he turned to the whole crew. “No, I propose we all head out, go get some much needed R&R before taking advantage of Theia’s gracious offer for drinks. Everyone agree? Good, then we’re off!” Turning and heading down the road, Leon didn’t give much of a chance for objections

The shock that Bright would've fallen to an early death, was certainly not missing. Maybe the woman was lucky to have cat-like traits, as those reflexes really saved the day for her. And well... Maybe Senka had a small part in it also.

But that heroic rescue was quickly turned into a shameful event. Or at least, Tawny had her head well-pressed against the palm of her hand.

The man still hadn't done too well in getting acquainted with his long-term companions, had he? All he ever did was read and write in that chamber of his, poor sod.

However, today was not a day to be theoretical, and it would be good practise for Senka if he got outside and actually got a sniff or two how things are done in the actual world.

“It's okay. Nobody is going to steal this wreck of a ship, you two should relax and just have some fun once in a while. I don't like it when people worry about trivial things.” The comment both directed at the shy-boy and the cat-woman. It sure wasn't a trivial matter, both Senka and Bright had a valid point. Someone stealing the ship would be a bad puncture wound that obstructs the crew's adventures. Then again, Tawny wasn't one to take no for an answer.

With that handled, even though not everyone would agree with their captain's decision, Tawny was ready to head out nonetheless. Slightly leaning closer to Bright as she expressed her concern about Leon's rather... Inappropriate behaviour, the woman nudged the cat girl gently with her left elbow.

“Don't you worry, I'll keep an eye on him.” She whispered, turning around to see if everyone had left their beloved ship yet. But somewhere along the line Tawny couldn't help but forgetting something.

“Oh! Ri-” Her words were cut-off, silenced by Eve's sudden enlightenment. The captain raised a curious eyebrow, her head cocking sideways with a confused “Huh?” thrown out of her mouth. Whatever it was the girl just realised, Tawny was sure it mattered little for now.

“A-anyway, you two talked about a drinking game, right?” Her attention now focused on Tea and Leon, a cat-grin forming on the woman's mouth as her excitement for today grew even stronger. “Mind if I join? Always wanted to give it a try. Heehee~” Flamboyantly clapping her hand and gauntlet together, Tawny joined Leon, who had already taken his first steps towards ValiĂ«r.

Jasper did want to hear the rest of Theia’s tale, although since Eve was in earshot, she’d start asking some rather awkward questions, to which Leon would’ve been too happy to provide the answers (read: blatant lies) to. Well, at least there was time for that later.

Bright’s landing from the crow’s nest was both impressive and frightening; one wrong move would’ve meant one less crew member travelling with them. Damn lucky she was part cat. With such agility and flexibility, who knows what sort of stuff she could do? Senka also seemed to have burst onto the deck just after the cat-girl started falling. Jasper didn’t care whether or not it was a coincidence; the poor bloke needed a bit of fresh air, and a trip round town with the crew was just the ticket. Tawny seemed to have the same thing in mind too, since she had him come ashore with them.

The engineer then watched as Eve tried figuring things out with the information he had given her, with the addition of a sly remark from the Captain which seemed to derail things a little, but in the end she came to a conclusion that she was happy with, loudly notifying the rest of the crew about this in the process.

There was also quite a bit of talk about a drinking contest once the shopping was out of the way. At least, Jasper assumed that; drunk shopping probably wouldn’t have gone down too well. Even though he could hold his liquor a fair bit, the engineer decided not to participate. Mostly because it was usually funnier to watch. That and he was curious to see what Tawny would get up to when she was absolutely plastered.

“A’righty then, we’ll meet up once we’ve all done our bits with provisions,” Jasper said to nobody in particular, since it was still uncertain what course of action was going to be taken, and he did not want to miss the chance to see Tawny drunk. Nevertheless, he followed Leon and Tawny towards ValiĂ«r with Eve in tow. He hoped that they had a decent shop for spare parts, or at the very least a scrapyard that had some useful hidden treasures somewhere.

Having the crew all together in deciding what to buy would be good, even if they'd all part ways for their own thing. The walk to Valiër was short and uneventful, as was expected. Nothing ever happened here, well... Aside from the market that was organized every so often, like today.

The crew's arrival was greeted with an open town crowded with Valiër's citizens, as well as the other towns' and their merchants. A great view to behold as every store keeper tried their best to attract as many customers as possible, yelling how much greater their wares were than their competitors at every turn.

Looking for the perfect stand to buy at, the crew browsed the market either in group or on their own. Cooking ingredients were a priority, as were the fix 'm majiggies, after that the more trivial things would come like new additions to their ship.

A shame though, that Valiër didn't have any expert engineers or stores that sold ship equipment. Tawny always wanted a cannon, not that they would have that much money. At any rate, they were sure to find everything they needed here.

At the first glimpse of Valiër, Tawny had already separated herself from her own crew, her short sprint ahead causing the crossbow that was strapped around her torso to sway wildly across her back. The mechanical arm emitting a fair bit of steam from moving at a more rapid pace.

“Hurry up! We haven't gotten all day!” The woman yelled at her companions while beckoning with her left arm. The small talk while disembarking had raised her excitement from average to intensely high, something that happened more often than not, and was a first sign that there may be a chance that causing trouble was on the female pirate's list. Well, causing trouble... That wasn't how Tawny called it.

When the group had caught up with their supposed captain, they would find her looking around the crowded market on the main street of the town, hastily yet carefully browsing the wares that were for sale.

Tawny's eyes first fell on a stand that sold second-tier flintlocks. Oh boy, how she would love to get her hands on one of those, but even pre-used firearms were a bit too expensive for her personal budget. And... No, she couldn't even think of spending the money they've each set aside for the crew on it.

Practically drooling over the beauties, the merchant watching over said booth raised a single, confused eyebrow, shortly afterwards uttering a line that he was surely familiar with. “Anything suiting your taste, Miss? I assure you, they are in good shape still.” He said with a forced smile.

The female pirate was sure they were, but with a shake of her head, she left rather unsatisfied. If only a treasure chest would fall from the sky, but then the whole town would be on top of it and there'd probably be nothing left but broken glass and fake jewellery.

Shaking the trivial thoughts out of her head, Tawny approached one of the food stands, once again smiling at the many choices they had. While she wasn't that great of a cook, it was usually just her who made dinner for the crew. Occasionally Eve would help out or make a dish by herself, but that was about it. “Oh Eve, could you help me out for a bit?”

Tawny beckoned at the girl, trying to get her attention. “What do you think we should buy?”

Though Bright didn’t fully agree with the decision to leave the ship behind in no one’s care, she knew that it would be futile to refuse to go now that she was down with the rest of the crew. Part of her tried to remember just how dangerous or villainous ValiĂ«r was, but had too much difficulty recalling just how good or bad the town was, or if much else other than shopping really happened there. Still, she supposed it wasn’t her ship, so if it was to set sail without her, it wouldn’t be her loss. It would be Leon’s, and frankly, that’s something she could do more than live with, especially right now.

As our feline friend walked along with the rest of the crew, most would consider her to be unusually quiet, but as far as they knew, Bright was like this all the time. The cat girl had a tendency to be rather introspective, closing herself off from the rest of the crew, in most respects, anyways. She would respond to initial prods, but more often than not, she’d fail to keep the conversation going and return to her own musings.

Presently, as she watched Tawny rush off ahead of the group, her mind wandered, eventually settling on how she felt like she fit in with the crew. After all, being the newest member, Bright certainly didn’t have the luxury of knowing, well, any of the crew members before she joined. To her, everyone else seemed to serve a purpose, and although she wasn’t exactly sure what each crew member brought to the table, she could at least tell that she didn’t belong. What could she really do but give an enemy pirate a few severe cuts? Heck, she couldn’t even use her blunderbuss pistol all that well. She’d only bought it just after joining the crew with her spare change, knowing she’d need it to help protect herself.

Bright was scrappy, sure, but that wasn’t what she brought to the crew. She knew that wouldn’t be helpful, especially in a massive fight. In reality, all Bright had for the crew was pity, a stray cat picked up off the streets to satisfy the captain’s need to feel better about herself by doing something good. And while the feline might need that sort of pity right now, she resented the thought. She hated having to depend on people to pick her back up every time she had a huge fall, or ‘saving’ her when she needed to escape. It was that kind of behaviour that got her into the mess she was in now, and there was no doubt in her mind how much she’d regretted almost every decision she’d made...

To someone not within Bright’s mind, though, the cat girl simply looked pensive rather than brooding as she browsed each vendor’s wares. Unable to get nearly as excited as Tawny about such worthless pieces of junk, she kept pretty quiet about, well, almost everything, and made it a point to stay on the opposite side of the group as the perverted thief, Leon. Bright tried not to look too hard at what was being sold, though. After all, part of her was still worried that the tiniest little thing, like a spare ball of yarn or a rod with a feather tied to it, might set her off. Given how terrible all the products here were, something that worthless was almost expected, and that certainly wasn’t something she wanted to deal with, especially with her self-loathing at its peak. Looking up to the rest of the crew, she finally spoke.

“I’m gonna head to the fish market,” she stated. While fish certainly reminded her that she was a cat at heart, she’d gotten so desensitized to that fact that it was a fairly safe in comparison to most other items, minus a few extreme cases. “I’m interested in seeing what they’ve got. Don’t try to follow me. Especially you.” She glared at the blonde haired freak before she trundled off in the general direction of where her nose smelt the delectable seafood she loved oh-so-much. Reveling a little bit in her alone time, she finally gave a small smile as she disappeared into the crowd.

Theia smirked, shaking her head, amused at his blatant abuse of her native tongue. He probably thought he had parroted some highly offensive term when, in truth, she'd more or less just called him 'full of crap'.

"Keh," she snickered, watching him go out of the corner of her eye. If she could paint a canvas of caricatures demonstrating his many facial expressions, they would all have the same, unvarying smug look on his face. "See you later, then... Pajudo."

The view from behind, at least, did not hurt, and it was such a pity most of the males she chose not to compare to slovenly, slop-eating four-legged livestock if only to avoid offending said farm animals, had to be so damn attractive. Chivalry and devilishly good looks seldom came with the entire, er, package.

Theia mingled with the crew for a short while, but not one to browse long in any place unless she was planning to buy, she eventually separated from the others and made her way to a stall selling exotic spices. Tawny's cooking always left something to be desired, and while Tea was no iron chef, she was mean with an array of spices, though she could never bring herself to tell the spunky captain she "doctored" her personal plates. If she had learned one valuable lesson from her mother and from wives on the island she practically grew up on, it was that the kitchen should ever only have ONE female in it at any given time. To share space, even with the most amicable of friends, was a recipe for disaster.

Here, she selected about a half dozen herbs and a small pouch of a rare local spice that was usually a pricey export. An addition to many varieties of herbal tea, the spice was best known for its detoxifying and metabolic properties, and Tea had used it prior to engaging in many a drinking game back on merchant ships before joining Tawny's crew. That was not to say she didn't cut loose when she drank. It was nice to have an excuse for acting silly or flirtatious when you were otherwise bashful. Men always thought girls were lightweights, and while the musician could get rip-roaring drunk one in awhile, she had little difficulty getting out of-- or into-- "trouble" while keeping her wits about her and still recalling all the minor details the next morning. And, thanks to a pitcher of her favorite tea, she was also the first one awake, sans hangover, raring to go a few hours after crawling into bed.

This ought to even things up a little, she thought to herself as she paid for her items and thanked the stall owner.

Passing through the marketplace, she kept an eye out for taverns, some of which seemed pretty seedy, and others that looked so desolate she wasn't sure if they ever had any business at all. Finally, she paused off to the side of the street, settling her eyes on a rather upscale establishment with a name outside she had heard of in her travels. While select entertainment there was of a more or less tasteful caliber, from what she knew, the owner was, by word of mouth, a choosy man, and she wasn't going to land a gig there in the clothes she was wearing. Her skirt had tears, her blouse a few stains from working the ropes on the ship, and, let's face it, you're going to need to show a little more skin than that. Sighing, she turned back to the marketplace and wove her way through the stalls of clothing and accessories, looking for anything that grabbed her attention.

After minutes of going through clothes, shoes, belts, hats even, and gaudy jewelry, she had been about to give up when she spotted the perfect outfit on a makeshift mannequin set outside one of the stalls. It was beautiful, classy, with the right cut to elongate and accentuate her curves in all the right places, and it looked like it just might fit. then, she looked at the price tag, and her heart sank.

"Two-hundred," she heard a thickly-accented old man's voice say from behind her. "But for pretty lady, I make you deal. Say, one-fity?"

She raised an eyebrow but didn't turn to look in his direction. In her peripherals, she saw a rotund, leathery old man with tufts of gray hair on his head. He wore an eager, friendly smile, and Theia guessed he probably hadn't a sale all morning. Don't make eye contact, yet, she reminded herself, and tilted her head to one side as if debating whether or not she really wanted the garment.

"How about one-twenty fie," he said decidely.

"Mmm, no thanks," the musician said, shaking her head, and turned to leave. "I think I'll just go to the shop down the street."

"No, no, wait!" he called, and she heard him take two steps after her. "You give me one-hundred. Is a good price, no?"

Tea stopped, fingers cupping her coin purse, taking care not to let it jingle as she lifted it.

"Well... all right," she answered, gingerly removing a handful of coins.

The man's eyes widened watching her silently count, and she took care, gently brushing the insides of the small purse without knocking any coins together until she pulled out the "last" coin.

"Oh," she finally said, a twinge of disappointment in her voice as she opened her hand to let the coins slide back into her purse. "Nevermind. I'm sorry, I only have seventy-five."

The man eyed the money beginning to fall back into her purse, and suddenly stopped her by placing his hand atop hers. "Nonono, seventy-fie is okay. Pretty lady should has pretty clothe."

Theia looked up, her eyes brightening with the prospect. "Really?"

The old man nodded. "Yes, is good for you. I take seventy-fie."

"Oh, thank you, thank you very much," she answered gratefully as she handed over the money.

Tender completed and prize in hand borne by a small cloth bag she'd taken along for shopping, Theia headed back to rejoin Tawny, Jasper and Eve, her head filling with ideas both for getting into that tavern tonight, and hopefully making a decent profit.

During the walk to Valier, Eve was a buzz of activity, jovially darting from one point to the next. Though the scenery wasn’t anything too impressive, she was still awed by the different hills, trees and flowers, darting off into the grass to examine them before one of the others managed to call her back to the path. By the time she and the others were entering through the city gates she had managed to amass a bouquet of various flowers, though they weren’t exactly very complimentary to each other. Tucked under her right arm, she still retained the book she had been reading – The Divine Cutlass, First Edition – while her left carried the bunched group of flowers.

For Leon, he had a small attempt to have a chat with the feisty feline, but she seemed intent to avoid him by staying on the opposite side of the group. So, with Bright out of the question, and Tawny moving rapidly ahead, Leon had the choice of three remaining people to brag to: Jasper, who seemed more intent on looking after Eve then anything else; Senka, who Leon had absolutely nothing in common with (Though undoubtedly a quiet man like him would be impressed with how incredible he was); and Theia, who often seemed to regard Leon with cold derision more than anything else. Still, she had one thing the guys didn’t. Well, a couple of things. And that was more than enough reason to chatter with her.

Heading into town, Tawny, Eve and Jasper seemed to sprint off towards the food and some washed up arms salesman, while the cat decided to go to the fish market. Typical. Well, that just left Theia and Senka with him. Hmm

“Yo Senka, buddy
” Grabbing the man around the shoulders, Leon pulled him in close.” You’re a cool guy, right? Wanna help a bro out? Well, you’d best go keep an eye on Sparky over there.” Gesturing to Bright scampering off, Leon was quite happy to send him off on what was a likely pointless mission in order to get some alone time with one of the ladies. “I mean, just make sure she doesn’t get into trouble alright? Good lad.” Shoving Senka after the feline, Leon scooted his way back over to Theia... Or at least, that's what he planned. Except she was gone. Dang it, normally he was the one who slipped off unnoticed. Scratching his head, he decided to see if he could track her down, skulking about the market until finally... "Hmm, she isn't a half-bad con herself..." Continuing to watch the show, Leon appraised her technique (And choice in clothing, ~Dayamn!~) before subtly trailing behind her, sliding in beside her before speaking. “So, with the Captain and Co. busy, looks like it’s just you and me toots. Guess we should go find an Inn to bunk for the night, yeah?” Leon laughed a bit, nudging her in the side before swiftly reaching into her bag, retrieving the article of clothing. "Ooo, hey, what's this? If I knew you'd be treating me to a show like this tonight, I woulda waived your board ages ago!" Holding it up in the light, it seemed Leon had no sense for the girl's privacy as he held it up to Theia, mentally imagining just how fine she'd look in it.

Elsewhere, Eve trotted over to the stall Tawny was examining, first looking over the pistols. She didn’t really understand the need for pistols and all sorts of other weapons. Why couldn’t everyone just get along? Leon said that people would always fight, but that just seemed strange. Didn’t people want to be nice and friendly to each other? It’s what she wanted to do. Again, she was called over to Tawny, this time for something she was far more interested in. Food. She didn’t tend to have a good sense of taste, but aesthetically, she liked the idea of food, presentation and all the like. Checking over the various cuts of meat and produce on display, Eve set about her work, muttering things under her breath as she examined them.

“Too lean
 no fat
 deterioration of the flesh
 will likely rot
” Intensely scrutinizing each thing she inspected, the store owner seemed a bit offended by her comments, slamming a hand down on the table. “If you’d be so kind little lady, I’d like you to pick something. Today.” Eve looked up to him, nodding as she selected some chicken. “These appear to be the finest cuts Lady Tawny. I imagine they will be perfect for whatever you would like to cook them with.”

As Senka waited for a response to be sent his way by Tawny, he continued to lean against the railing of the ship. Surprisingly, however, it was not Tawny who first responded to him; rather, it was Leon who called back up to him.

” No offence Senka, but at least if Bright stayed she could at least scare off a mouse – I really don’t think you’re going to be any worth when it comes to protecting my majestic vessel.”

Stricken by the comment, Senka seemed to shrink, withdrawing back onto the ship slightly as he slunk low in embarrassment. Of course, Leon, and the rest of the crew, for that matter, wouldn’t know anything about his thin history as a fighter. They wouldn’t know that he wasn’t just a bookworm. They probably thought that the sword strapped to his hip was just for show.

Well, not only do they not trust you, Senka thought. They think you’re a weakling, too. Apparently today was a good day to belittle Senka Imoulette.

He didn’t have that much time to feel sorry for himself, though, as Tawny quickly waved off Leon’s comment with one of her own. Telling him not to worry about guarding the ship, she bid Bright and him to join the rest of the crew as they went into town.

Once again, Senka felt an odd mix of relief and dread. He would be allowed to get out and mingle with the crew, only, the crew members didn’t like him very much. He was convinced of that, now, thanks to Leon’s words.

Still, he’d try to make the most of this little venture. If he could talk to at least one person, he’d consider it a (small) victory. Heeding the captain’s command, Senka moved to descend the ship like the others had. Unfortunately for him, his wounded knee detracted heavily from his already lacking grace. He managed to put both feet on the shore, eventually, but not without twisting his ankle a bit and making himself look even more inept.

Cheeks burning and head tucked low into the collar of his coat, Senka set off following the rest of the crew as they made their way to town.

The walk to Valiër was rather uneventful for Senka. There was a smattering of conversation between a few of the crew members, but no one really bothered to involve Senka besides looking backwards every so often to make sure that he was still behind them.

And behind them he was, quietly and obediently following the lead of his captain as he observed the surroundings. Since his world view had been pretty much limited to a single island for nearly twenty years, Senka was always interested in seeing what other lands were like. It was a small sort of curiosity, but it gave him something to do as he walked. Something other than brood over Leon’s words, or worse, Bright’s fall.

He was still a bit hurt by Leon’s slight. He knew enough from observation to recognize that Leon was just the type of person to make such comments thoughtlessly, but that didn’t curb Senka’s feelings. Some childish part of him wanted to run off and prove to the more worldly man that he was more than just a pampered landlubber. But the rest of him recognized that more bad would come of that than good.

So, he just settled on glaring occasionally at the man’s back, thinking up witty responses to the dig in his head.

The other thing that was on his mind was his (failed) rescue attempt. He kept trying to reason over the why’s of his reaction in his head, but couldn’t come up with suitable answers. It made sense to want to help a crewmate, but that didn’t explain why he’d done so with that degree of urgency.

Or why he’d imagined that Bright was Raisa

Did he subconsciously relate Bright to her simply out of the similarity of the situation, or was it something deeper? Was he so worried about the situation at home, as he’d come to call it, that he was reflecting it onto his current affairs? If so, that could certainly cause problems. He couldn’t go flying off the handle every time a girl got into trouble.

They did that enough to keep him coming and going for the rest of his life. He knew that particular tendency of theirs very well from his time spent catering to His Lady’s bidding.

Even though he’d overreacted a bit when it came to the ‘rescue’, he was also still concerned for Bright’s safety, and he caught himself staring at her from time to time on the walk as well. She’d seemed fine, but he also knew from experience that random accidents like that fall could have hidden effects. So he kept his gaze on her as long as he dare, without being inappropriate, should she exhibit any signs of pain.

In fact, seeing how he wasn’t exactly caught up in a conversation, Senka felt the need to get Bright’s attention and ask her how she was doing. But, he wasn’t sure how she would take to being interrupted by him. Despite the fact that he tried to save her, she probably still thought he was a weirdo. Oh, the days when people actually thought he was a decent enough guy

But before he knew it, the crew had arrived at ValiĂ«r. Tawny led them to a few stalls with a tad too much enthusiasm, but Senka couldn’t help but to smile. It was somewhat childish, getting so excited over a few rag-tag stalls. Yet, it was almost
cute? All he knew was that he was standing back with an amused smile on his face as their captain gushed over the wares.

And yet, a few of their crew started to break off and go their own way. Theia went off to do a bit of shopping for herself, and perhaps do something towards fulfilling her earlier promise of drinks. Bright, sadly, was also one who left the group. That promptly put an end to any plans he had of talking to her, then. Moping a bit now, because the only one he had reason to talk to had up and up and left, Senka stood with the rest of his crew, mutely existing in the background.

That was, until Leon, of all people, decided to come up to Senka. “Yo Senka, buddy
” he said, grabbing him unexpectedly around the shoulders. Senka wasn’t really given a chance to answer, nor would he have been able to, given his understandable shock at the situation. ”You’re a cool guy, right? Wanna help a bro out? Well, you’d best go keep an eye on Sparky over there,” he continued, gesturing to Bright scampering off.

“I mean, just make sure she doesn’t get into trouble alright? Good lad.”Then he was gone, with a last pat on Senka’s back, off to do heavens-knows-what, leaving poor Senka in a bit of a stupefied paralysis.

Out of anyone in the crew, the last person Senka expected to utter a word by conversation towards him was Leon
yet, there was no mistaking. Leon had just put his arm around Senka’s shoulder. Senka calmly took a few steps to the side, suddenly fearful of lighting falling from the sky.

Still, Leon made a
semi-decent point, and Senka had wanted to speak with her anyway. That decided, he started to turn on his way to follow Bright when the sing-songing voice of his captain suddenly met his ears.

“Senka - Could you be a dear and help us carry any excess bags? You wouldn't leave two poor ladies to carry that many themselves, would you?”

Oh, the guilt. Well, he couldn’t very well walk away after that, could he? Besides, Tawny was the one he owed, and so he would have to do whatever she wanted in order to make up that debt. If that meant playing manservant for a bit, then so be it.

With a last, somewhat regretful look towards the direction Bright had taken and a sigh, Senka turned back towards the remaining crew with a half-smile on his face.

“N-no, Ms. Tawny; I-I’d never be so irresponsible. Please, allow me to
ah, carry whatever you purchase. You women shouldn’t burden yourselves
Not that you can’t, I mean! Just, it wouldn’t be, very
err, chivalrous? Of me? Right
”

After that, Senka was loaded up with several packages, carrying much more himself than any of the rest of the companions were. Well, he couldn’t exactly complain. He had offered. Besides, he was stronger than he looked, and he’d spent several balmy afternoons carrying packages back from a market day back home. In fact, he might be the most qualified member of the crew to carry packages.

Hey, there was something he was good at. Now he just needed a few more of those, and he could actually call himself useful.

Standing patiently behind Tawny and Eve, Senka waited to see what the girls would order him to do next. He blew a stray strand of hair from his eyes, clicking his tongue impatiently when it just curled against his forehead, as he waited for the company to move again.
