| Name: Barynn Ferinda Garmold | Age: 23 | Gender: Female | Sexuality: Bisexual | Height: 4'11" | Weight: 110lbs |
| Race/Species: Dwarf | Hair Colour: Dark brown | Eye Colour: Hazel | Skin Colour: Tanned | Trade: Jeweler |

Appearance:
Barynn is short, standing at only four feet and eleven inches in height, and she is of average weight for her height - not slender, not muscular or bulky, not overweight, but proportionate. Her light skin is always well-tanned. Her heart-shaped face is framed by a cascade of dark hair that falls in loose waves just past her shoulders. She has almond-shaped hazel eyes and thin lashes. Her nose is average, not terribly defined but not heavy either. She has thick lips that curve upwards. She doesn't typically wear much makeup, occasionally brushing some over her eyelashes to make them stand out more or putting some on her lips to make them glossy. Barynn tends to dress quite simplistically, opting for plain white and cream-coloured blouses with knee- or ankle-length skirts in various muted colours. She does, however, like to accessorize, always wearing a variety of jewelry pieces - all of which she handcrafted herself.

Image

Personality:
Barynn is not a people-person. Very independent and solitary, Barynn prefers to be alone. She prefers to spend much of her day inside, working on her trade, though she will relent and talk to people when it comes time to sell her goods. She is quiet and thoughtful, tending to entertain intrinsic thoughts and ideas while she does her work. In the evenings she likes to go out for a walk, though she will typically avoid people during her ventures away from home. When she does interact with others, she doesn't tend to be very verbose. She likes to let her jewelry speak for itself and she wants her customers to choose the jewelry that speaks to them without her input. She will answer questions that are posed, and she is always happy to help her customers find what they're looking for.

History/Bio:
Barynn was raised in an underground settlement far from Veritas Isle. She was always a strange child for a dwarf, though; while the other kids all enjoyed playing in the dirt and being close to the earth, she was repulsed by the dank, dark underground. She always longed for something more. She was one of eight siblings, neither oldest nor youngest, caught somewhere in the middle. As such, she was often overlooked by her parents and had quite a bit of freedom. Barynn was frequently caught trying to sneak away from the settlement, trying to find her way to the land above ground that she'd heard so much about. Her parents worried for her, but no matter how much they told her about the safety and comfort of their home, she still longed to see the land above.
As a child, Barynn took a liking to shiny things, so her people declared that she would be trained as a jeweler. She was taught to work with the metals and gemstones extracted from deep within the earth, and taught to design beautiful necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets, anklets, and circlets. She enjoyed her trade, but she always felt like something was missing. The books talked about the way that jewels gleamed and glittered, but Barynn never saw the sparkle that she thought the jewels ought to have.
One day when Barynn was a teenager, their settlement played host to a guest from the surface world, a traveling merchant who wished to establish trade ties with the colony. The dwarves were eager to do business with the surface, but all Barynn wanted was to learn about the land up above. She took a liking to the merchant, spending a great deal of time with him and asking him to tell her all about the land from which he hailed. It was from him that Barynn learned about Veritas Isle, a cluster of floating islands in the sky. Barynn didn't know what a sky was, but it sounded incredible to her, and when the merchant left to return to his home, she begged him to take her with him. He didn't want to displease her people by going against the wishes of her parents, though, and declined.
Upon turning eighteen, Barynn decided that enough was enough. She wanted to explore the surface world, and now that she was an adult, there was little her family could do to stop her. She told her parents that she loved them, and she promised to write to them frequently from the surface world. She said goodbye to her brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews, bid her friends farewell, and set out for the surface world. One day, she decided, she would travel to Veritas Isle and see it for herself.

Penelo smiled and went on to get Luther his piece of pie. She set it in front of him and smiled at Barynn. "Thank you, dear. I believe that you can surpass what I have done. With your work and how young you are. I can't wait to see." She said and went to make the cups. "I have eight children. The oldest is thirty-four and the youngest is eight." She said happily before turning around and putting on some water for the tea. She wasn't going to go into the depressing bits of her miscarriages along the way and after Agis. They decided to stop after the last one. "What about you dear? Did you come with a family of your own or did you come alone? And if you did come alone that was a long journey by yourself and quite dangerous. Glad you found Luther before some creep did." She smiled.

Barynn held back a chuckle when she saw Luther being served his pie. She was flattered by Penelo's words, believing that her work could surpass that of the old woman. Barynn doubted it, but it was certainly something she could aspire towards. She would never admit it, and often denied it even to herself, but a large family was also something she aspired to. Not any time soon, of course, but perhaps one day... She smiled as Penelo asked her about herself. "I came alone," she responded shortly, pausing a moment before continuing. "I've always wanted to see the surface world. A traveling merchant told me about Veritas Isle, and when I was finally old enough to choose for myself, I left home. I stayed in a surface town near Bhagh-Nernwahrum for a while and worked for a jeweler there until I had saved up enough to come here." It was more than she'd opened up the entire time she'd been here, even to Luther, and she felt her face go slightly red, but continued. "The surface world is so beautiful. I couldn't imagine going back underground now... and I am grateful that Luther found me. He's been a great help." Okay, Barynn, it's time to stop talking now... she told herself, biting lightly on her tongue a little bit and giving Penelo a small smile.

Penelo poured the hot water in the cups and let the tea soak before giving it to them. She looked at the two and smiled, "Well it sounds like you had yourself a little adventure. Glad you made it safely." She sat down with her own cup and gently blew before sipping. "Luther is a good boy, he has helped a lot of people while on the island. He feeds the homeless and gives people a chance to strove. He saved a young girl and her baby, she stays just over there in one of my houses. She is a sweetheart and her boyfriend is too. I guess you could say I have adopted her into the family. My husband should be happy. And the grandkids that have popped up after he left." She said and waved a dismissive hand. "Anyway I have been blabbering away. Luther, did you even eat lunch yet?" She asked. Luther looked like he was caught doing something bad. "Uhh... no?" He said. Penelo shook her head, "Why don't you two stay for lunch she asked? Luther looked at Barynn, "Are you up for it?" He asked.

Barynn smiled as she listened to Penelo talking about how good Luther was. There was no doubt in the young dwarf's mind that Luther was every bit as good as Penelo was saying. He'd already done so much for her just in the time since she'd arrived, and it was good to know that he was just genuinely good rather than having some sort of other motivations. She held back another giggle when Penelo addressed Luther, entertained by the look on his face and the sheepishness of his response. When he looked to her, she smiled and nodded. "Yes," she replied in a small voice, but said nothing else.

Luther looked overjoyed, "We will stay." He loved her cooking and with her husband away she took joy in cooking for someone other than herself and her young son. Penelo had told him it was getting lonely. He children would stop by from time to time, but it wasn't like when they were younger and she had a house full. That is one of the reasons why she wanted to retire, so she could spend as much time with Agis as possible.

Penelo got up and went on about making lunch. There was a soft knock at the door and Penelo told whoever it was to come in. A redheaded girl and a tall white haired man walked in. Penelo smiled brightly, "Oh please tell me you were stopping by for lunch." She said. Garnet smiled, "We were going to come visit, but I would love whatever you are cooking, Pen." She smiled. Asham nodded, "Garnet was getting restless in the house and she wanted to come visit you." He said. Garnet looked at the tan skinned girl and smiled, "Hello, I am Garnet. This is Asham. Nice to meet you. And hello to you too, Luther. You look happy." She smiled, sitting down next to him and Asham next to her.

"Hello you two. I had pie." He said cheerfully. Garnet couldn't help but laugh.

"Ugh you are like a big kid, Luther." She said and shook her head.

Penelo stirred lunch and let it cook before sitting at the table. "Oh a full house, I am excited. It has been awhile." She said softly and Garnet took her hand. "You are more of a mother to me than my own. I had to come see you today." She said softly. Penelo held her hand softly. "And you fit right in to my family with that pretty red hair. Ugh... to have this color again." She smiled.

Barynn kept quiet while Penelo went to start cooking lunch. There suddenly came a knock at the door and Penelo called out for the person at the door to come in. A pair walked in, and Barynn watched them curiously, though she said nothing. The couple greeted Penelo and then Luther. The woman then smiled at Barynn and introduced herself as Garnet, and the man as Asham, before turning her attention to Luther and sitting beside him. Barynn smiled back, but didn't say anything to them, letting them interact with Luther and Penelo instead. She didn't know these people, so she didn't quite feel comfortable talking to them. It felt strange enough to have opened up so much to Penelo, having told her basically all there was to know about her: where she was from, why she had come to the surface, where she had been before coming to Veritas City...

Barynn shook her head slightly, more to herself than to anyone else, and snuck a quick glance at Luther before looking down at her ring, spinning it distractedly around her finger. Seeing Penelo's work already had her feeling inspired, though she knew that she was going to need to get a shop and some equipment before she could start working her new visions. She already knew that she wanted to make something special for Penelo as a thank-you gift. Having seen the woman's work, and the pieces she'd considered the best across a few of her series, Barynn had a feeling that she could figure out the older woman's style well enough to make her the perfect gift. She also wanted to make a gift for Luther, though she would still need some time to figure out what.

Penelo smiled and looked at Barynn. "This is Barynn, she will be taking my place as the city's jeweler. Oh... thinking about that. Barynn, I was wondering if you could make a baby bracelet for Garnet after her baby is born?" She asked. Garnet blushed and ran her hand over her growing tummy. Luther's happy face turned to that of one lacking any emotions. He got up and excused himself before walking out of the door. Garnet smiled big enough for the both of them. "If Penelo likes your work then it must be worth wild. If you could I would be more than happy to have your work on my child." She said softly.

Barynn noticed Luther's change in expression and the way he abruptly excused himself. Part of her wanted to follow him to make sure he was okay, but she wasn't quite comfortable enough in the situation for so bold a move. When she heard Garnet's words, though, she couldn't help but to smile. "Boy or girl?" she asked softly. It was perfectly possible that they didn't know yet, of course - underground they had no way to determine such a thing until the moment of birth itself - and if that was the case, she could easily prepare the bracelet and set in the stones after the child was born. There was also the possibility that they'd want a gender-neutral colour in the bracelet - she'd once made bracelets for a pair of newborn twins in her last town, and though both children had been little girls, the parents had wanted one bracelet to be green and the other to be yellow. More power to them, she figured. She glanced briefly towards the window, hoping to see Luther and figure out whether he was all right out there. She wasn't quite sure why he'd so abruptly left, especially since he'd seemed friendly with them before, when they'd first arrived.

Garnet smiled, "I have not a clue." She laughed softly and rubbed her tummy. "I am hoping a little girl." She said softly. A girl would be a lot easier for her and Asham to raise. She was so scared that if it was a boy it would turn out like his father and Garnet couldn't handle that. She wanted her baby to grow up to be like Luther and Asham... like anyone in the Keavaris family. Anyone who had a heart, she wanted that for unborn child. "If you will excuse me, I have to use the little girl's room." She smiled and hurried out of the kitchen. Penelo smiled and leaned over, "I can see you are worried about Luther. Give him time. He will come back." She said softly and went to her cooking. Asham smiled softly at her, "The pregnancy is a tender subject for Luther. He just needs some time to clear his head."

Luther had went for a walk to calm himself. He was still so pissed at his brother for doing that to Garnet. All he could see was rage and hatred for his own twin. He wanted nothing more than to shake his brother and make him make this right, but he couldn't. Garnet wanted nothing to do with James and who could blame her? She was so scared he would pay someone to take her baby.

Barynn nodded slightly. Baby girls were certainly adorable, so she could understand Garnet wanting one. She would have to go ahead and make the base for the bracelet, and then see what colour stone they wanted in it once the baby was born - unless, of course, there was something specific that Garnet wanted to begin with. Once she had her store set up, she'd look into it more closely. Then Garnet left, and Barynn was gently told that the pregnancy was a tender subject for Luther. Barynn couldn't help but to wonder why, but she suspected that was definitely not a question to ask. Perhaps Luther had hidden feelings for Garnet and was jealous of her and Asham? It seemed as reasonable as anything else she could come up with. She said nothing, simply gave a small nod and an equally small smile.

Penelo came back and and handed out the food, placing food for the two that went missing. She looked at Asham and he nodded. "Garnet is pregnant with Luther's twin brother's child. She didn't exactly consent to it." She said softly. "Luther is still upset with his brother about it." She smiled softly and sat down. Garnet came back and clapped her hands together. "Food." She giggled and sat back down before eating. Luther came in a few minutes later and sat down next to Barynn. "Sorry about that. Oh... this looks so good, Pen. Thank you." He said softly before smiling and eating.

Barynn blinked her hazel eyes in surprise as Penelo softly explained to her why Luther was upset. It made sense to her. Luther was so good - she could completely understand him being upset about his twin brother hurting others. The more she heard about Luther, the more she wondered how one man could possibly be so good. To care about and help others, to be so generous and kind... it seemed strange to her. There had to be a balance somewhere. Garnet came back a moment later, and Luther came back shortly after that. Briefly, Barynn laid her hand on his forearm. It was only a momentary, fleeting touch, but she hoped it would be somewhat reassuring anyways. After that, she started to eat.

Luther looked over at Barynn and nodded. He got what she was doing and it was sweet of her, he patted her hand softly, before going back to eating. Things were quiet for a bit before Agis came running in. "There is a dragon here momma!" He smiled and watched as Ofelia waddled in.

Barynn smiled a bit as she felt Luther pat her hand, presumably showing his appreciation for her reassuring touch. She turned her attention fully to her food, quite delighted with the taste of it. Penelo was an excellent cook, an excellent jeweler, clearly an excellent mother...was there nothing this woman couldn't do? Already, Barynn was finding that she admired Penelo immensely. If she grew to be even half the woman Penelo was by the time she reached the older dwarf's age, she'd definitely consider it a success in life. There was silence for a short while until Penelo's little boy, the one who'd been sent off with the gift, came bounding into the house, accompanied by a pregnant woman, talking about a dragon. Barynn raised an eyebrow curiously, but said nothing. She hoped they were in no danger and that the dragon talk was nothing more than the overactive imagination of a small child.

Ofelia walked in with Agis and sighed. "Agis sweetie you cant just announce that, some people panic." She said and looked to see people she didnt know at all and laughed nervously. "Ah, he wont hurt anybody please dont be alarmed..I train them, you're all perfectly safe I promise." She said and then walked over to Penelo. "I came over to say thanks for the blankets, I really love them. Theyre the cutest, and I cant wait to use them. Well I mean I can, i got another month of looking like a beach ball with limbs, But the little one is gonna be so cute with them!" She said with a smile.

Penelo smiled, "I am glad you love them, you can thank Agis for them really though. I was going to make jewelry, but he insisted on something that the baby would actually need." She huffed playfully at him. He giggled and ran out to go play with the dragons. Garnet looked up at Ofelia and then her belly. "I don't think you look all that big really." She said softly, her own hand on her stomach. Luther looked at Ofelia's belly and then Garnet's and stayed quiet. Asham caught on and leaned down, whispering something in her ear. She nodded, "Well it was nice to have lunch with you, mom. I have to go take my medicine and a nice nap. You all have a good one. Oh! Before I got. I am Garnet. You are Ofelia, I heard you married Nasir and you owned the ranch next door. It was nice to finally meet you. Till we see each other again. Bye!" She said sweetly and Penelo about melted. "You have a good nap, dear." She said and walked them to the door. They discussed some things before Penelo coming back. Luther had gathered everyone's dishes when they were done and went to wash them. Penelo walked over to Ofelia and rubbed her belly. "I can't wait to meet you and Nasir's beautiful baby. Ugh... he is going to be so happy when he returns. He is just like his father. I would watch him when he things no one is watching. You might see him cry." She winked and Luther shook his head chuckling.

With everybody off talking amongst themselves - Garnet and her man on their way out, Penelo talking to the new pregnant girl, Ofelia, and Luther off starting to wash the dishes - Barynn was feeling increasingly uncomfortable. She stayed in her spot at the table, quietly twirling her ring around her finger. She didn't mind the solitude; it gave her some time to think. She had all sorts of ideas floating around inside her head about the jewelry she was going to make once she had a building. Over the course of her travels from her old home to her new one, she'd seen and learned so much, and she couldn't wait to see how that would carry over into her work. First, of course, she would need to buy a shop and get it furbished with the equipment and tools she would need.

Luther finished and dried everything off before putting them away. He loved it here. He had told her everything about why they came here and the kidnapping. Her response was a smile and how she got a grandbaby out of it. No a judgmental tone in her voice and she never treated him differently. She said her husband left with eight children and would come home to eleven and four grandchildren, one on the way. When he walked back in he smiled and looked at Barynn. "Are you ready to go? Anywhere you would like to do or would you like to roam around by yourself? He asked.

Barynn quietly stood from her chair just as Luther was coming back into the room. She gave him a small smile in return when he smiled at her, and then listened to his question. "The real estate agent Rowan suggested...?" she suggested in a soft voice, pulling out the piece of paper that Sophie had given her with the address on it. She'd love to get started as soon as possible on finding a building for her shop. If she got a building and got it equipped with the stuff she needed, she might even be able to get started on making some jewelry while she waited for all the paperwork to be finished. That, of course, entailed getting a building first.

Luther smiled, "I can take you there. No problem." He said. They walked past Penelo, "we are going to be heading out thank you for everything. I will make sure to come over soon." He said. Penelo smiled ear to ear, "You are very welcome! Don't forget l, Barynn, tomorrow we have them at meeting. I will set up tea and snacks too. So come ready." Luther couldn't help but smile, Penelo was such a kind person. He strived to be someone like her. Once they were done talking be looked at the address and headed for the city. It was busier now so he walked slower so they wouldn't get separated. He whistled as they walked. Some stared at him, mostly women. Some he had as clients. They got to the realtors and sure enough he saw a client of his. She smiled up at him and then saw Barynn. She frowned and walked off. Luther sighed and told Barynn he would be across the street at a shop.

Barynn was pleased that Luther agreed to take her to see the realtor. She gave Penelo one last soft thanks as they left, quite pleased with how well the visit had gone. Penelo had seemed impressed with her and had agreed to let her sell some of her jewelry, which was much more than Barynn had been expecting. As they walked, Barynn couldn't help but to notice that there were women eyeing him up. She didn't blame them, really, though she wondered why they went about being so obvious with it. People really were strange. Upon reaching the address indicated, a woman smiled at Luther, but then frowned and walked off when she saw Barynn. The dwarf raised an eyebrow curiously, but then turned her attention back to Luther when she heard him sigh before addressing her. He almost sounded disappointed that the woman had walked off...? Barynn couldn't help but to wonder why. She smiled, though, and gave him a small nod when he told her that he'd be across the street. Then, her heart pounding, she headed into the realtor's office.

Barynn pulled out her bag of savings and set the money down on the counter. She wasn't quite sure how much was in there, so she'd let Mrs. Carlson determine that. She let her hazel eyes curiously dance over the papers that the realtor was setting down, wondering what types of properties might be available. She delicately brushed back some loose dark hair, keeping her gaze downwards on the papers rather than looking towards the realtor.
