Appearance:
Standing at approximately six feet and four inches in height, Bastian has a lean build and weighs in at roughly 180 lbs. He's not quite muscular, but toned enough that it's evident he takes care of himself. He has light skin which tans when he spends time in the sun, though he rarely does since his job requires him to spend a great deal of time indoors. He has narrow, delicate features with a thin lower lip and an angular nose. He has dark brown hair that he keeps neatly styled into a windblown look and he has large eyes that are a blue-grey colour, changing from more blue to more grey depending on his mood, the lighting, and the weather. He has some very light stubble on his face, though he tries hard to keep it shaven and under control. Bastian wears suits almost exclusively. He prefers black or dark grey suits and always tries to incorporate a splash of colour, whether it's in his tie or a vest. Bastian has a tattoo on his right forearm, which is always covered up by his suits and dress shirts and only becomes visible when he takes them off or rolls the sleeves up to his elbows. Bastian has a slight accent.

Personality:
Bastian is a very no-nonsense kind of man. He is straightforward, blunt, and to the point. He lacks humour, and jokes have a tendency to go right over his head. He can be a little dry and some may consider him boring. He is honest, driven, determined, and patient. Bastian is ambitious and career-oriented, constantly working and trying to improve himself. Intelligent and focused, Bastian always did well in his studies and enjoys the more intellectual pursuits of life. When not working, he enjoys such things as literature, poetry, chess, art galleries, museums, and puzzles. He's a sucker for a good crossword puzzle. Bastian isn't an overly social person, tending to avoid interaction that doesn't have to do with his work. He spends most of his time cooped up in his office. He keeps his meetings and social interactions as brief as he can. He is conscientious, choosing to plan ahead and rarely opting to do things spontaneously.

History/Bio:
Nobody knows where Bastian was born or to whom. He was abandoned as a newborn in a basket at the door of a chapel about an hour away from Veritas Isle. The priests in the chapel searched long and hard for his parents but found none; nobody reported any pregnant women who'd mysteriously stopped being pregnant, which led them to suspect that Bastian's mother was from further away and had traveled to abandon him in secrecy. Once they failed to find his parents, they started instead to seek out a family willing to take in the abandoned newborn. They found a couple living on Veritas Isle, Élodie and Thibaut De Larousse, who had been trying for almost a decade to have a child of their own but had failed to conceive. The De Larousses were delighted to take in the abandoned infant, and they took excellent care of him, raising him like he was their own. They made sure that Bastian grew up with the best education, the best private tutors, and the best toys money could afford. His parents instilled in him the importance of excelling in his studies, as his father was a lawyer and his mother was a dental surgeon.

Bastian was nineteen when his father was killed. He'd recently handled a murder case in which a well-liked member of society had been the accused. Thibaut and his client had won the case against him, effectively getting him locked away for life, and some friends of his decided to retaliate by murdering Thibaut. Their intent had been to murder Élodie and Bastian, too, but Bastian had headed to the kingdom below for some schooling and his mother had managed to escape by conveniently being at the home of her lover, one of the murderer's friends, when Thibaut was killed. Bastian came straight home when he found out what had happened, and he was furious. His mother swore that she didn't know that they'd been planning to kill Thibaut and she said that she'd been involved with her lover since before the initial murder - the one that had gone to trial - had even happened. Bastian was devastated by his father's death and disgusted with his mother for carrying on an affair behind his father's back for years, and he cut his mother out of his life. His inheritance from his father was plenty to keep him going, so he didn't need his mother's money and he had no problem cutting her out.

Bastian finished law school and moved back to the islands, since they were his home. He took over his father's firm, which had been run by a few of his father's associates after his death. Élodie, meanwhile, started to spiral. She and her lover ended their relationship rather messily, and he started to stalk her and obsess over her. She became fearful of him and agreed to get back with him in order to protect herself, but this time around the relationship became abusive and her boyfriend was drinking heavily, abusing drugs, and beating her regularly. Élodie was afraid to go to her son for help, even though she had faith that she'd raised a good man who'd be willing to help her out if she asked, and she ended up killing herself when he was twenty-six. Bastian felt guilty, not having had a proper conversation with his mother in almost seven years and knowing he could have helped her if he'd known. He mourned his mother's death, and then prosecuted her boyfriend as hard as he could until the man was behind bars for life.

Nowadays, Bastian is just living his simple life. He has a simple home, does his job to the best of his ability, and enjoys being alone. Although he has thought about one day marrying and having children, he finds he simply isn't interested in actively going out in search of a partner. His focus is too much on his work, and even if he did go out looking, he doubts anyone would be interested in someone such as himself.

So begins...

Isla listened as she talked and when the couple came in and her boss said she was up they came to her and asked about getting things for the new puppy they got. She smiled brightly and gently scooted the puppy off of her foot. It just laid there and slept as she took them to the aisle they needed to be in and asked questions to better suit their needs. When it was all said and done they had a counter full of things and she rung them up just like she was showed and waved goodbye saying she hoped to see them again and thanks fur stopping by.

Vlora had gotten a job while she was here with an Uncle Q. She was to patrol the streets and keep people safe. It seemed like an easy job and she had time to see the city. She had been sweeping a spot when she saw some man creeping from the other end of the street, staring at a man in a suit. She hurried over to him and smiled. "You are being followed and you look like a man who couldn't fight to save his life, so pretend you are my boyfriend, okay?" She whispered.

Lanissa stayed near the cat condo, stroking Soup and watching while Isla helped the customers. She was doing a great job, and Lanissa was certainly impressed. She walked over to the counter when it was time for Isla to total up their purchase, watching the girl go through the price tags and put it down on the form. She figured it was best to keep an eye on her first couple transactions, just to make sure she did everything right, but she had faith that Rhyanid had taught her well and, sure enough, the girl did quite well. Lanissa smiled when the couple left. "Good work," she said.

Bastian was walking home from his office when an attractive young woman came over to him. He blinked when he heard her words, a little taken aback, but he nodded. "Very well, then," he said, hesitating a moment before gently grabbing the girl's hand and resuming walking. "I apologize, I'm not certain to what extent you'd like me to pretend, but I've always found hand-holding to be a very clear indicator of a couple being romantically involved," he said.

When her boss told her good work Isla beamed and smiled up at her. "Thank you. At the old job you had to work from the bottom up so I started with the gift shop and it is pretty much the same way down there, just instead of pet supplies it is stuffed fishies or shirts and mugs." She giggled.

Vlora was happy the man didn't fight her and blinked at how proper he sounded. He sounded like he was from some rich family and she mentally sighed. "So, suits, what do you do? The hand holding is fine, but we should chat more so that it looks like, ya know, we a couple. Oh and the name is Vlora. I patrol the place for Uncle Q. Just started, anyway again...what is it that you do?" She asked.

Lanissa grinned at how excited Isla seemed to be about doing well. "I rather enjoy the mental image of stuffed fish," she said with a laugh. "I have some orders to put in, so I'll be in the office working on that. Rhyan will be in and out. If you need anything, feel free to grab one of us," she said, giving Lanissa one last kind smile before heading into the back room.

Bastian looked over at her when she asked what he did, smiling a bit. "I'm a lawyer. I own the De Larousse law firm," he replied. "Vlora is a very pretty name. It's unique. I've never heard it before," he remarked. "My name is Bastian. Bastian De Larousse," he told her.

Isla nodded and smiled. The day went by well and she only had to get Rhyanid once throughout the whole day. When she was done she went to find him again since she couldn't find her boss and spoke softly. "It is the end of my shift, is there anything you would like me to do while I am here?" She asked softly.

Vlora listened and looked back to see if the guy was still following and he was. She mentally sighed and smiled, "Oh a lawyer. Your kind is a pain in my ass sometimes." She giggled and leaned into him a little bit. "Thanks, my momma named me and all. So... props to the old woman." She smirked and blinked. "Bastian" She let his name roll off her tongue. "That's a sexy name. Too bad ya gay, ya know? Now hold on... I don't want him following you to your fancy smancy house." She stopped him and huffed. "If you don't go away my boyfriend will kick your ass creep!" She yelled, sounding like the girl who would be a victim instead of the one who was going to kick ass. The man walked out and smirked, "Oh really?" He chuckled. The man was about Bastian's height if not taller and a lot more built. He had a shaved head and lots of tattoos on his arm.

Rhyanid was in the back at the end of Isla's shift, writing out some price tags for new merchandise. His mother had stepped out for a few minutes to grab some coffee, and he looked up when Isla came in and asked if there was anything he needed her to do while she was still there. "Nope, not that I can think of. How'd you like your first day?" he asked with a grin, setting down his work and leaning back in the chair a bit so he could look at her and be mostly level with her.

Bastian raised an eyebrow slightly when Vlora said that lawyers were sometimes a pain in her ass. "I certainly hope that doesn't mean you're a woman who likes to live on the wrong side of the law. It would be a shame to have to write off such an attractive woman," he said. He had to fight back a slight smirk at her response to hearing his name. He was about to correct her when she said he was gay, but then she called out the man who was following him. He blinked, turning to see the man, and then he looked at Vlora. "I do hope you know what you're doing."

Isla looked at him and smiled. "I liked it a lot. It was fun and I got to know the layout pretty well. The people were kind enough to be nice on my first day." She giggled. Isla just wanted to go get her son and go home. "I got to see exactly what kind of fish the store has and I was looking at the tanks they have here, but the ones I need seem like there are going to need to be shipping in from my island." She said softly and wished she had stopped talking.

Vlora blinked, "Oh no... not a clue. First time patrolling, remember? Was hoping you could fight." She smirked and rolled her eyes before shaking her head. She walked up to the guy and smirked before saying she was the one who actually knew how to fight and by the end of the whole thing the man was on the ground screaming. She made a big X on his cheek. "Now I know who to look for. Go." She said and the man ran off. She turned back. "Shit, guess I do know what I am doing, Bastian... or suits? Hmm... I like our name a bit more so, Bast it is." She smirked and put her knife away before walking over to him. "Shall I walk you home, M'lady? Since you have made it very clear you can't fight. I don't mind walking pretty ladies home." She smirked.

Rhyanid smiled, listening while she told him about how her first day had gone. He blinked when she mentioned that she'd need to ship fish in from her island, and then a smirk came to his lips. "We've got plenty of space, you know. If there are more fish that are suitable to be pets that you think we should carry, we could probably order them in from your island," he said. "You'd have to talk to my mom about that, though. She handles all the ordering, especially for things like that."

Bastian frowned when she pointed out that it was her first time patrolling, but then much to his relief, she went and fought the man anyways. When she was done and she sent him on his way, he breathed a sigh of relief, adjusting his tie as she turned around to face him again. "I suppose I'd be a fool to turn down an attractive woman offering to walk me home, would I not?" he asked. "I should first correct your earlier statement, though. Your assumption about me was incorrect. I am, in fact, very much heterosexual," he said with a smile.

Isla blinked and laughed, "Oh no, I meant tanks, though your exotic fish supply is low to none, but I don't blame your mom for carrying them since people who buy the fish here are usually beginners or parents looking to give their little kid their very first responsibility though that kind of saddens me because fish are just like a cat or dog." She said softly. "The tanks I need are going to be almost floor to ceiling so... I am sure your mother doesn't need to get those." She smiled. "Thanks though..." She looked around and smiled, "Well I should get going. See you tomorrow." She said softly and waved before hurrying and disappearing.

Vlora smirked, this guy was funny. She liked funny. When he told her that he was straight but said it so properly. "Do you always talk like that?" She asked as they walked. "Like... it is called GAY." She laughed. "It is okay, you are a closet gay. I support you, either way, kid." Vlora let him lead her and she looked around. "Oh man... these big houses make no damn sense unless you have like twelve kids." She said.

Rhyanid chuckled when she said that she'd meant tanks and not fish, nodding. "Ah, got it," he replied. He smiled when she commented on their poor stock of exotic fish. He rather enjoyed the way that this girl knew what she was talking about. "I'm definitely going to want to see these floor to ceiling tanks when you get them," he told her. "I'll see you tomorrow. Have a good evening," he told her when she said goodbye, waving at her before she was gone and then getting back to his tags.

Bastian blinked when Vlora asked if he always talked like that. "Always talk like what?" he asked her. He raised an eyebrow when she called him a closet gay, shaking his head. "I'm very much not, thank you. My interest is in women," he said. He walked with her, glancing over at her when she commented that the big houses made no sense unless you had lots of kids. "I've always thought that, myself. I grew up in a large home, but I was an only child. It made little sense to me, but it seemed to make my parents happy, so I never questioned it," he said with a shrug. "Mine is significantly smaller since I've no family to house."

Vlora looked at the man and let him talk more before she laughed, "Oh man, boy... I can't. You are so proper in your speaking it is just... quite fun." She laughed. "Ahh, so you are right on a good track of mind then. So, Mr. De Larousse," She said in a fake French accent. "Do you always walk home alone like this at night? Seems kind of dumb for a man who can't fight to be walking alone." She said.

Bastian looked a little surprised at her when she laughed, raising an eyebrow when she said he was proper in his speaking. "Well, I was raised in a wealthy family and I am highly educated, so I would be inclined to assume that such factors contributed to my speech. Different accent, different vocabulary, different speech patterns. That's all there is to it," he said with a shrug. When she asked if he always walked alone at night like this, he nodded. "I do. I've not had an issue, I keep to well-lit areas, and there are usually guards and patrols about. It is a rather unfortunate necessity when I work late," he said.

Vlora listened to him and shook her head. He was a good looker and speaker. Not her type at all, maybe to play with, but that was about it. The fact he called her attractive multiple times fueled her ego a bit. "Ahh well... when do you normally get off? I am going to be the normal patrol around here so you might see my face more often. Might as well walk a pretty lady like yourself home. I like to think I am great company." She laughed.

Bastian chuckled a bit when she asked what time he normally got off, looking over at her. "I get off when my work is finished, or when I decide that I am finished for the night. That is the joy of being your own boss, after all," he said. He raised an eyebrow when she called him a pretty lady, shaking his head somewhat. It was emasculating, that was for sure, but aside from the misandry she wasn't altogether unpleasant. "You're welcome to accompany me home any evenings it may be suitable to do so. I cannot, however, guarantee that I'll be leaving work at the same time each night. There are days I'll be gone before nightfall and there are nights it'll be past midnight before I leave."

Vlora listened as they walked and she looked up at him. He was interesting though she wasn't too keen on a man who couldn't defend himself. How could a man who looked like that and own his own firm not defend himself? Either way, him just talking alone was something to keep her interested. "Huh, well I do sweeps randomly from like seven at night to three in the morning so... if I see you I see you." She said. A part of her wanted him to keep talking because she just couldn't get over the fact that he was so damn proper. Vlora stayed quiet for a bit and blinked, "So what kind of lawyer are you? Family, Personal Injury, Bankruptcy, Criminal, or General Practice?" She asked.

Bastian nodded when she said she'd see him if she saw him. "That seems a fair assessment," he said. Part of him was somewhat hoping to run into her more often now that he knew she'd be out and about. When she asked what kind of lawyer he was and then listed off types of lawyers, he blinked and looked at her. "I'm uncertain whether your extensive knowledge about lawyers should concern me," he chuckled. "I typically work as a criminal or civil defense lawyer. I also have the added work of owning and running the firm itself and, with that being said, there are other lawyers working for me who handle other types of legal matters - the family, the injury, the bankruptcy... it would be a safe assumption to make that our firm can handle anything our clients may need," he explained.

Vlora blinked before laughing, "Hmm, should you be concern that I actually know what I am talking about? Let's see... hmm maybe." She laughed a bit more. "I used to work as a bodyguard. So the people I would beat the shit out of when they attacked liked to sue sometimes. I have dealt with my fair share of lawyers. Most of them were old pruney men or very uptight women. I never seemed to get a really good looking lawyer." She sighed. "Probably for the best, they probably would have been homosexuals." She teased with a smirk. When he finished talking about his firm she nodded in approval, "smart... so your firm will have business coming in... given if you know... they actually know what the hell they are doing that is." She said. Vlora smirked and looked at him.

Bastian listened as Vlora talked about getting sued when she worked as a bodyguard, shaking his head. "It will never cease to perplex me that people sue when they are obviously in the wrong. If you attack a guarded individual, you're liable to get hurt. I do benefit from it, though, so I suppose there's little use in complaining," he said with a shrug. He blinked when she said any attractive lawyers she met would likely be homosexuals, he blinked. "Given your earlier assumption about me, would it be a safe guess that your current implication is that I'm an attractive lawyer?" he asked with a slight smirk. He nodded at her comment about his firm knowing what they're doing. "Oh, the lawyers working for me are excellent at what they do," he said.

The vocabulary and way the man spoke made Vlora smile. It wasn't every day she heard shit like this. It also didn't help that he was good looking to boot. She really hoped she would bump into him again on one of her patrols. Vlora would definitely take him to a tavern for a drink since she didn't technically have to keep walking the whole shift. Usually, she would give it her area a once over. Go to a tavern for a bit and repeat. Unless it was a night for just walking and one trip to the tavern. When he asked if she thought he was an attractive lawyer she laughed a bit. "Ahh, nice to see you can put two and two together. You might just be a semi-good lawyer." She said. "Yes, I do find you rather attractive, Mr. De Lerousse." The man was a kick and she couldn't wait to tell her brother about tonight. It would get a kick out of it too and then tell her to be nice to the man, but she had been. She was very nice to him. When she started seeing smaller houses she blinked, "You like in something like this." She said and pointed to a house. Vlora had hoped this wasn't his house, it was rather ugly and she didn't think she could refrain from making a comment.

Bastian looked at Vlora when she said that it was good he could put two and two together and he blinked. "Well, I am a lawyer. Such inferences are a crucial aspect of my work," he told her with a bit of a shrug. When she pointed at a house and asked if he lived in something like that, he eyed it for a moment and then shook his head. "I don't much care for that. I'm not certain what the word is I'm looking for but the two-tone paint looks odd, the trimming is done in multiple colours that don't match the house itself, and I don't care for the unfinished patio shelter," he said with a shake of his head.

Vlora nodded about his work, she knew that. The man really didn't now what jokes were. When he went into describing the things he didn't like about the house though she couldn't stop the smile that came upon her lips. She liked this man, he was funny in his own way without actually trying to be funny and most probably serious at the time. "Oh good... because I was about to bash how ugly it was. Seems like you might have some sense in what looks good." She said and looked at the house again, shaking her head. "Your house better be pretty after all that you just said about that one." Vlora smiled and walked with him.

Bastian nodded when she said that she was about to bash the little house. "Well, then, it seems I beat you to it. I'm much more fond of my own house than that one, although I could do without the massive shutters on the front window of mine. I'm considering just taking them off altogether and settling for interior blinds and curtains to ensure privacy," he said. He rounded a corner and nodded towards one little house, not saying anything as he headed towards it.

Vlora listened and looked over at the house that he had nodded to. "That is actually a cute house... and don't. I advise you actually close those at night to ensure a bit more safety. I can see so many ways to break into your house while you sleep and you not even know. Not that I go breaking into houses for the hell of it. I had this one kid I was paid to bodyguard and the bugger liked to lock me out because he loved to see how I could get back in without keys. He was a good kid, didn't mean any harm." She said softly and smiled. "So unless you want someone breaking into your house easier than I suggest ya either get a guard dog or... well both wouldn't be a bad idea." She said and smiled. "Sorry, habit." She laughed.

Bastian raised an eyebrow when she said she could see many ways to break into his house and he looked at her. "Locks only stop an honest thief. Closing the shutters wouldn't likely do me much good if someone's willing to break a window to get in there in the first place," he told her calmly, shaking his head a bit. He headed up to the door and then stopped, looking at her. "I would generally invite you inside but I believe you have a job to get back to," he said.

Vlora shrugged, "I guess so... an honest thief, though." She laughed and shook her head before watching him walk to his door. "Huh, so bossy... yes, sir. Job to do. Only an honest man would invite a pretty woman into his house." She winked and laughed before turning on her heels and walking to the end of the street.
