| Name: Istrain Derastil Garmold | Age: 26 | Gender: Male | Sexuality: Bisexual | Height: 4'9"" | Weight: 122lbs |
| Race/Species: Dwarf | Hair Colour: Dark brown | Eye Colour: Hazel | Skin Colour: Tanned | Trade: Merchant |

Image

Appearance:
Istrain stands at only four feet and nine inches of height, and is of average weight. He has toned muscles and tanned skin, and he keeps his face with a small amount of stubble. He has hazel eyes with a slight almond shape that are somewhat sunken in, and his eyebrows are neither thin nor bushy. He has an average, slightly pointed nose and he has full bow lips. His dark brown hair comes down to approximately his chin and is straight. He typically dresses in comfortable clothes - plain pants and a plain shirt - but he usually wears expensive, fancy jackets with embroidery and beading.

Image

Personality:

Ever since he was a child, Istrain has been an extremely sly and charismatic individual. An excellent liar and a master manipulator, Istrain's charisma makes him an excellent trader as he is easily able to persuade customers and clients to buy from him - often at prices higher than his competitors might offer. Istrain is extremely ambitious, wanting to profit immensely from his trade and seeking to eventually live a life of comfort and luxury. He can be somewhat deceptive and manipulative, particularly when it comes to relationships both business and personal, and while he is flirtatious, he has commitment issues when it comes to romance. He tends to engage only in the physical aspect of his relationships. Istrain is extremely family-oriented, and would do anything for his parents or his siblings, even at cost to himself or his wealth. Istrain's family is the only thing that matters more to him than wealth and material goods, and it shows in his interactions with him as he is extremely warm and loving, while outside of his family, he tends to be much colder.

Image

History/Bio:

The second-eldest of eight siblings, Istrain exhibited a remarkable talent for lying and convincing others to listen to him. As such, when it came time to pick a career path for him, his parents decided that he should pursue the merchants’ trade, knowing that his charisma would make him an excellent trader and barterer. He was trained by a pair of Master Traders, a married couple called Eliseo and Yamina who were eager to train the clever young boy. Istrain became close friends with Eliseo and Yamina’s son, a boy named Adagov who was a year older than him and also learning the merchants’ trade. When they were old enough to start working on their own, they worked as partners, and they quickly gained vast amounts of success.

Shortly after Istrain’s younger sister Barynn left Bhagh-Nernwahrum to venture to the surface world, Istrain and Adagov ran into some trouble with a client. They were in Bhagh-Nernwahrum’s upper area, where the merchants from the surface world came to trade with the dwarven merchants without entering the city itself, and a pair of human traders shortchanged them in a deal. Istrain and Adagov confronted the human traders, and the human traders revealed that they were members of a prolific gang on the surface. They threatened Istrain and Adagov, telling them that they were going to ruin the two of them if they ever tried to do business with them or any of their contacts again.

Istrain and Adagov decided not to let the threats phase them, and they continued their business. It was a few weeks later before they encountered the human traders again, and they discovered that one of the elven traders with whom they’d made a few deals earlier in the week was a client of the gang. The human traders demanded that Istrain and Adagov step outside and fight them, but the dwarves refused. Then, the human traders presented them with a choice: if Istrain and Adagov didn’t step outside, they’d track down and find Istrain’s younger sister, Barynn, who they knew to be working in a jewelry shop in the nearest town to Bhagh-Nernwahrum.

Istrain, who valued his family above all else, and Adagov, who’d always had something of a secret crush on the second-eldest Garmold daughter, refused to let such a threat stand, so they agreed to fight the two. They exited the trading area and brawled with them. Istrain, who was a decent fighter, fared well against his opponent up until the other human merchant pulled out a hidden dagger and used it to stab Adagov. Istrain was shocked, and he ran back into Bhagh-Nernwahrum. He told the city officials about what had happened and the human traders were banished from trading with the dwarves, but that wasn’t good enough for Istrain. Determined to avenge his best friend’s death and to protect his younger sister in case the gang attempted to pursue her, Istrain decided to leave Bhagh-Nernwahrum and to pursue the gang. With the help of some allies he found on the surface world, and with the help of his extreme charisma and cleverness, he was not only able to find the traders responsible for Adagov’s death, but he also managed to dismantle the gang from within over the next few months, earning their trust and then betraying them.

Once he was satisfied that the gang was no more, Istrain decided that he wanted to stay in the surface world. He’d come to quite like it, and he’d realized that there were countless trade opportunities to pursue on the surface. So, he said goodbye to his family and then set out to make it as a traveling merchant in the surface world. Right now, he is slowly traveling towards Veritas Isle, where he knows that his sister has settled down and where he wishes to surprise her with a visit, as he made his family agree not to tell her that he’d left Bhagh-Nernwahrum permanently to live on the surface solely to surprise her.

Luther felt like shit, how the fuck was he suppose to break up with her now? He was just going to have to wait till things settled down and make the opportune move. When she gave him a look he blinked before realizing that he was in the way and walked back in the building and watched them walk in before closing the door. When he turned back around Luther reached over and smiled, "It happens. I guess when you offer to pay for most of her way while here she may open up a bit to you." He chuckled before letting go of his hand. This was a mess and a half.

Barynn and Istrain moved inside with Luther and Barynn shut the door behind them, locking it right away. Almost immediately, Longrus walked over and started to sniff Istrain's ankles. Barynn laughed softly, putting a gentle hand on her brother's back. "That's Longrus," she said. "He's totally harmless. Luther got him for me, to help keep me and the shop safe," she said, walking over to the futon. She sat down, grabbing her chocolate cake and patting the spots on either side of her for the men to come and sit with her.

Istrain frowned when he heard Luther's words, following them inside. He watched as Barynn promptly locked the door behind her, and then the little dragon came over to him. He chuckled slightly, immediately crouching down and beginning to scratch behind the ears. "Longrus, eh?" he asked. "Excellent choice of name. Grandpa would be proud," he said. He gave Longrus one last pat before standing upright. Something wasn't sitting right with him. Between Luther's comment about paying for most of Barynn's way, and Barynn's comment about Luther getting her a pet to protect her, and the way that Luther had been when he'd first answered the door... He wasn't sure he liked this relationship for his sister, though he definitely wasn't in any place to say so just yet. He looked towards his sister. "Barynn, do you need money? Because I have money, you could have just asked," he said to her, his voice soft. "What happened to making your own way and figuring it all out on your own?"

Luther stayed standing too. He didn't feel comfortable sitting down. He actually wanted to leave, but he felt like it would be rude if he did so. So Luther stayed his ass there and leaned against the wall. He didn't say anything since it was Barynn who needed to answer for herself. He realized he had been doing a lot for her and she needed to learn to be on her own. Istrain had a point, he was so blinded by his own guilt that he ended up spoiling her without even noticing. He mentally sighed. This was getting out of hand.

Barynn frowned when she heard her brother's words and she gave a slight shrug of her shoulders. "I thought I had it covered, but then I got here and everything was just so much more expensive than I'd even imagined. I could have done it, don't get me wrong, but Luther found me and he just kind of took me under his wing." She wanted to gush about how generous and kind and helpful Luther was, but she knew that Istrain wouldn't want to hear it, so she decided to keep it simple and focus just on the facts. "He let me stay with him and helped me buy the building. I'm going to repay him though, because he's going to work in the shop once it's open," she said softly. Again, she wanted to gush about how great he would be with customers, but she didn't, and instead she simply smiled over at Luther.

Istrain took off his backpack, walking over to the futon. He set it down and opened it up while he listened to his sister talk. Already he could see what was between the lines. Luther let her stay with him, helped her buy the building, and probably didn't expect anything from her except sex in return. This tall man was probably taking advantage of his sister. He pulled out a medium-sized bag and held it out towards her. "I brought you two presents," he said. "Here's the first one."

Barynn raised an eyebrow, taking the bag from him. "I love presents," she said as she set the cake back down. She was a little annoyed that she couldn't just finish her slice of cake, but she was also eager to see what her brother had brought her. "You still haven't told me what you're doing here," she said, opening the bag. The entire bag was full of gemstones and jewels and she gasped softly. "Oh, Istrain, these are perfect!" she said, looking up at him with a grin. "Thank you!"

Istrain grinned, sitting down beside her while she opened up the bag of jewels. He'd been collecting them for months now, ever since she'd left their home, and he couldn't wait to see her reaction. "I'm glad you like them," he said. "And as for why I'm here, well, that's a long story too. Probably longer than your story with Luther here. Let's see... Adagov is dead, I came to the surface to avenge his death, I wiped out an entire gang operating aboveground near home, and I realized that the surface has lots of opportunities for fortune, so I decided to move topside," he said.

"Adagov is dead?" Barynn asked, her eyes widening. She set down the bag of jewels and wrapped her arms around her brother. "I'm so sorry, Istrain. I'm glad you're here, but I'm so sorry that those are the circumstances... Adagov was a good man."

Istrain nodded slightly, leaning in to his sister as she hugged him. "I know," he said softly. When Barynn pulled back from the hug, he lifted his gaze curiously towards Luther, who seemed to be simply lurking by a wall. "So, Luther," he said. "Why don't you tell me more about yourself? I'm very curious to know more about the man who won over my little sister's heart." Istrain chuckled slightly, shaking his head. "I'm sure you've heard Barynn's life story already, so I'll warn you now that mine is pretty much the exact same, except that I'm the second child instead of the fourth, and instead of jewelry-making, trading is my thing."

Luther listen to the two talk and honestly he was glad she didn't gush about the things he had done. He honestly wished he hadn't made that stupid ass joke about buying her everything. He knew exactly what Istrain was thinking because the trading business can be dirty and from the look and sounds of it, Istrain was no clean man. He didn't know who this Adagov was and chalked it up to be his boyfriend. The man was a male version of Barynn if he liked women that would be a big shocker on his part. Luther played games, he did it all his life. He wanted to change and beating around the bush was pissing him off. "Mmm more about me?" He said and smiled a bit. "Okay... she has. She has gushed, I even know you like to bring butter down to the underground world. I think that has been my favorite part of it all. Oh and the moss salad." He said before losing the smile a bit.

"Back to me I guess..." He said and stood straight. "First off... let me get that stupid ass thought out of your head. I didn't help her get her business started because I wanted to fuck her. Hell if I wanted to do that I wouldn't have spent so much money on her when I can get people to pay ME for sex. My father was the king of the black market till I killed him so that me and my brother didn't die for his vengeance of us leaving the trade. At sixteen my twin brother and I left and made our own business as escorts. Yes, I have fucked more women and men than I can count. I still run the escort business. I have a couple houses down in the kingdom. No they are not forced to have sex. They can pick up other jobs and they just rent rooms from me. I have an escort living in my house now, but he also works with dragons. He can leave the sex behind anytime, like I have. Did I take up my father's job in the black market? No, but my brother has. He thinks sending me my share of the money will make me happy, but it doesn't. So I use that money for charity. Like your sister's business. The homeless shelters that are being renovated and the houses for them. Your sister thinks she is paying me back but whatever I make goes to the charities on the island."

"I also work for the gang that runs the islands. What I do for, as in your words, is none of your business. Hmm... I think that is about it... or rather what I am willing to share. Is there anything else that you would like to know?" He asked.

At first, when Luther smiled and commented about having heard the butter stories, Istrain chuckled a bit, nodding. He supposed that now, his unique butter-fetching skills wouldn't be quite as appreciated. Butter was quite commonplace in the surface world. As Luther went on, though, Istrain's smile promptly faded, as did Barynn's. They both sat there, awestruck as they listened to him. When he finished, Istrain slowly turned his head to look towards his sister. "Who would have thought that you'd be even better at picking them than I am?" he commented. He didn't really do the whole relationship thing, but he did have a tendency to hook up with the crazy girls.

Barynn didn't respond. She just sat there, her mouth open slightly as she processed what had just happened. Then, she slowly stood up. She set aside the plate with the last few bites of cake on it and then she went and picked up Longrus's leash. Wordlessly, she went and knelt down by the dragon, beginning to leash him up. It was everything she could do right now not to just burst out in tears.

Luther watched Barynn's face and he would have lied if he said it didn't sting a bit and that he felt bad, but that is who he was. He was harsh, yeah, but he was frankly annoyed with the lack of responsibility Barynn and her brother. The more he learned the more he just wanted to get away from her and her family. He has is own issues with his brother coming live on the islands and now this. He wasn't a babysitter and he had done enough for Barynn for her to get a foot in the door with her business and now that her brother was here he could help her out. Plus he wasn't going to stop Barynn from leaving because she needed to walk him anyway and he was leaving.

Luther looked at Istrain and bowed a bit, "It was... sort of nice to meet you." He said and walked out of the place. He had no business staying. He headed home and told Rylie that he needed to get Barynn so she could pack her things and go. Rylie blinked and nodded before wondering just what in the fuck had happen. "What happened?" He asked. Luther turned. "I went off on her brother by telling him about me. It was clear that he thought I was doing all of this so I could fuck her. But I have helped her enough and she can figure out the rest on her own and with her brother. That is her responsibility now. If she asks why just tell her that it wasn't going to work out." He said.

Barynn finished silently leashing up Longrus and then she stood up. She said nothing while Luther left, and once he was gone, she looked over at her brother. "You can stay here," she told him in a soft voice. "The futon is really comfortable. I'm going for a walk."

Istrain frowned as he looked at his sister. He stood up, walking over to her. He reached out to give her a hug but she moved away from him. "Are you all right?" he asked her softly. He wasn't entirely sure what had just happened, only that Barynn was probably better off without that Luther guy, even if it made her sad to see him go.

"I just need to take a walk," Barynn replied. "Lock the door behind me. I'll be back...at some point." With that, she headed out of the shop with Longrus in tow. She was still trying her hardest not to cry. She was suddenly wishing that she'd never pushed Luther to committing to something with her. He'd obviously had his reservations about it, and now they'd gone and made a mess of things. They'd argued about the dragons more than once, he'd refused to let her talk to Istrain until she'd pushed, and then he hadn't even been able to behave around her brother. She should have just accepted his apology after he'd kissed her and left it at that.

Once she had her things, Barynn fled Luther's house as quickly as she could, not caring about the rain as she hurried back to her shop. She unlocked the door and saw her brother lying on the futon, sound asleep. It was a relief that he was sleeping, since she wasn't sure how she was going to face him after what had just happened. She locked the door behind her, uncertain what to do. Part of her wanted to just head into the back and escape into her jewelry for a bit, but she knew that she was shaking too much for that. So instead she got changed in the back room. She was going to lie down on the edge of the futon and try to get some sleep, but when she emerged from the back room, Istrain was awake.

"You look like shit," he said as she walked in, and she sighed softly, sitting down beside him on the futon.

"I feel like it," she replied. Istrain reached over, wrapping both arms around her and pulling her closer. He wasn't sure he liked the way she flinched at his touch.

"I'm sorry," he said. "I'm not sure if I came at a bad time or if it was my fault, but regardless which it was, I'm sorry."

Barynn buried her face in her brother's shoulder, still trying to hold back the tears. "I don't even really know what it was," she said softly. "I'm sorry you had to be here for it, though."

"Don't be silly," Istrain said, pulling her back so he could look into her eyes. He couldn't decide what had happened. Her sadness looked like things had gone badly, but her ruffled hair and the red mark on her shoulder seemed to be telling a different story. "I'm glad I'm here. You obviously need someone, and I know you haven't made any friends here yet. I'm guessing your talk didn't go very well?"

"You could say that," she replied, already certain that she didn't want to tell him what had happened. "I just...I want to go to sleep, Istrain."

"Of course," he replied. He pulled her so they were lying down and he hugged her gently. "I'm right here, Barynn, okay? Remember when we were little and you thought there were trolls underground that were going to come and attack the city?"

"No," Barynn sniffled in response, and he chuckled.

"Of course you don't," he said, brushing aside some of her hair from her face. "You were three. I think Thuling read you a book about trolls and you took it too seriously. You came into my room in the middle of the night crying, I was six, and I cuddled you and told you that there were no trolls. I think you slept in my room for about a week after that."

Barynn smiled slightly when she heard this. "That sounds like us," she agreed. "And it sounds like Thuling."

"Yeah, what a dick," her brother agreed with a chuckle, though he knew that both he and his sister were missing their oldest brother. "Anyways, the important thing is that this is just like that. I know you're hurt, but I'm here for you. Now, get some sleep. It's late, and you need it. I'll be right here when you wake up, and then in the morning, we can figure this out. Okay?"

"Okay," Barynn agreed softly, and then she paused. "Istrain, did you get in a fight with a girl today?"

"Yes," Istrain replied, raising an eyebrow. "How'd you know that?"

Barynn sighed, shaking her head. "No reason," she replied before closing her eyes to fall asleep. "I know where we need to go in the morning, though."

When morning came, though Barynn wanted to head to Penelo's, Istrain insisted on stopping at the nearest hotel and getting a room first. "You don't have a shower in your shop," he reminded her, and she reluctantly went along with him. Luckily, Istrain was easily able to afford the room. They took turns showering, and Barynn felt much better afterwards. She examined the red mark on her shoulder for a few minutes in the bathroom before deciding to wear a blouse that would cover it. Penelo was observant and perceptive, and she knew the older woman would spot it immediately. Part of her was half-convinced that Penelo would figure out what had happened on her own, even if Barynn didn't say anything.

Once they'd finished cleaning up, Barynn and her brother headed for Keavaris Village. Along the way, Barynn updated Istrain on everything that had transpired since she'd come here. He told her about meeting Luther, about him buying the shop for her and introducing her to Penelo, and about all the work she'd been getting done to prepare for the shop's opening. It pained her to talk about Luther, but he could see it and he didn't push her.

When they reached Penelo's house, Barynn lifted a hand and knocked. Istrain looked presentable enough, with his hair combed and his face cleaned up. The cut on his cheek had closed up, though it still looked pretty nasty. "I can't wait to meet this Penelo you keep talking about," he told her after she knocked, sliding an arm around her waist and pulling her towards him. "She sound absolutely wonderful. I'm glad you found her."

"Me too," Barynn agreed. "And she is wonderful. I'm glad I found her...I'm less glad that you found her daughter, though."

Haera had gone to her mother's early to talk to her father when her mother made her stay after saying she had business with her. Though she didn't know what. When there was a knock at the door Penelo went and got the door. "Hello! You must be Barynn's brother. Come in." She said.

"I swear to god, mother, if you are setting me up with another guy." Haera said and walked in to see the man child she got in a fight with. "...what is the manchild doing here?" She asked.

Penelo turned around and pointed at her, "You are going to apologize is what YOU are going to do." She said and let them in before going to the kitchen.

"Can I say sorry with my fist to his face?" She asked over her shoulder.

"Swear on my mother's life, child!" She yelled from the kitchen. Penelo was making a certain tea because she saw the way Barynn was standing and it was clear something had happened last night to the poor girl.

Haera sighed, "If I say sorry THEN can I beat him?" She asked, a small smirk on her face to make it clear she was joking. Penelo walked out. "Haera... you will be the death of me." She sighed. "Take a seat. I am making tea. I am Penelo, sorry for this horrid introduction. This is Haera, my second to oldest daughter and third out of the eight of my children." She smiled.

Istrain grinned when he saw Penelo answer the door. She definitely seemed like a kind woman just from his first look at her, and paired with what Barynn had told him, he had the notion that she was definitely good. He gently ushered his sister inside when Penelo invited them, smiling. "Yes, I'm Barynn's brother," he told her. "The name is Istrain." He looked up when he saw Haera enter and he smirked slightly, fighting back a snicker when Penelo told her that she had to apologize to him. So this was why Barynn had been so insistent on bringing him here. It wasn't to meet Penelo so much as it was to see the blonde, and to have her apologize. Lovely. "It's good to see you too, beautiful," he said to Haera with a quick wink after Penelo introduced her.

Barynn and her brother followed Penelo to sit down and Barynn frowned slightly as she listened to the interaction between Penelo and her daughter. This was definitely not what she had expected. She offered the blonde woman a tentative smile, though, and stuck out her hand. "Hi," she said softly. She wasn't one for small talk, but she also didn't want to get on this girl's bad side after seeing the state her brother had been in when he'd arrived the night before. "My name's Barynn. I'm the new jeweler in town." She stuck out her hand somewhat warily.

Haera eyed Istrain but looked over at his sister and gave a different expression, something much softer and kind. She gently took Barynn's hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you, I like your name... very fitting." She said and Penelo shook her head. "Now don't you have something to say to Istrain?" She asked. Haera's done expression slipped back on as she let go of Barynn's hand and looked over at Istrain. "I am sorry you are a manchild. There, can I go? No?" She sighed when her mother slipped out the wooden spoon from her pocket.

"Okay okay... sorry I beat the shit out of you in the middle of the street and wasn't considerate that such a small man could be so nervous of riding a dragon. Shows weakness, but whatever..." She said and looked at her mother. "What?" She asked her. "But at least you fought back, which means you don't take shit... so I guess that is a good thing." She said when she looked back at him. "And you have a very womanly complexion which is nice." She said and looked at her mother. "Look I complimented him TWICE..."

Penelo shook her head, that was the best apology Istrain was going to get. She got up and went fix the tea before returning with it and small cookies.

Barynn smiled, relieved when Haera seemed to soften for her and shook her hand gently. She sat back down, watching the exchange between Haera and her mother as Penelo tried to get Haera to apologize to Istrain. She was annoyed that the blonde kept referring to him as a manchild, but Istrain didn't seem concerned. In fact, she noticed, there was an amused smirk on his lips, almost as if he enjoyed her abuse. She never would understand her big brother.

Istrain listened patiently to Haera's drawn-out mess of an apology, the edges of his lips curled into an amused smirk the whole time. He could tell that she was finished and that he probably wasn't going to get any more out of her, so he stood up and offered a hand. "I've been called worse by better," he said calmly. "Maybe we should go again some time - some time when you're not tired, or hungry, or whatever it was that had you so sloppy yesterday," he added with a snicker.

Penelo listened to the too and the way he egged her on at the end made her mentally groan. It was like he got a kick out of being beaten and then raised her eyebrows at the thought. Some people's kids She thought and then hung her head when she thought of Haera. It was clear she got a high off of being hit.

Harea gave him a look. "Sloppy?" She laughed and looked at her mother who gave her a warningful look. "I highly doubt your beauty of a sister would want me to put her sister.... shit I mean brother, in the ground. I like my women smiling, not crying." She said and winked at her before glaring back at him. Haera took his hand and firmly shook it. "Kinda cute how you have to stand to meet my eye level to shake my hand."

Penelo hook her head and looked at Barynn. "I need you to come with me to my shop real quick, okay? Those two WILL be have." She said more as a command before gently leading her to the back and sitting her down. "Are you okay?" She asked as she got some pieces for her.

Barynn's cheeks went pink when Haera winked at her and a slight frown came to her lips. As her brother shook Haera's hand, Penelo asked her to come with her, and Barynn nodded. Whatever was going on between Istrain and Haera was weird and she wasn't sure she wanted to be around to see where it was going. She stood up, following Penelo quietly and sitting down. The moment Penelo asked whether she was okay, tears began to fill Barynn's hazel eyes and she shook her head quickly. "No," she said, her voice small, but she said nothing else.

Istrain was pleased with Haera's firm handshake and he sat back down afterwards. "She sure is beautiful. Finally, something we can agree on," he said, glancing curiously after Barynn as she and Penelo left. "So, what, you have something against dwarves? Because I don't know if you'd noticed or not, but your mother's shorter than my sister and I are. I sure hope you don't call her names," he said, shaking his head. He paused, and then reached into his pocket, fumbling around a moment before pulling out a medium-sized pendant and tossing it towards her. "Here. Consider it a peace offering. The guy who gave it to me said it was cursed. I was going to give it to Barynn to break down for the materials, but I figure you're more deserving of a curse than any of her unsuspecting customers. Plus, it'll bring out those pretty eyes of yours," he added with another wink.

Penelo put the pieces down and held Barynn. "I am sorry, dear." She said softly. "If you want to talk about it, you know I am always here to listen." She said softly before giving her the pieces with with rare stone. "I thought you might want to put these in your shop. I don't want any money for them. They all go to you, okay?" She said softly and mentally sighed. She knew they did the do last night and by the way she was walking it was her first time. Penelo was a bit pissed at Luther, he should have known better, but she was going to talk to him in due time.

Haera laughed, "I love my mother to death. I just don't like the rest of the dwarves... mostly my mother's side. They are complete cunttarts." She said and took out a small flask and poured some of its contents in her tea before downing it. "You sister seems like a sweetheart... and like she went through some shit. So I have no beef with her." She said before catching the pendant. "Ohh how sweet of you. How did you know I love curses?" She asked and placed it in her pocket. "Such a gentlyman aren't ya, cutie?" She said before rolling her pretty eyes and looked back over at her mother's shop and wondered what those two were going on about.

Barynn delicately lifted one of the pieces that Penelo brought out, examining it closely. Penelo's handiwork would never cease to amaze her. Everything was so perfect, so precise. "I hope I'm as good as you one day," she murmured, shaking her head and setting the piece down so she could wipe away the tears that were welling up in her eyes. "I just...it's nothing. I went to talk to Luther but it didn't go well. He was still mad, we got in a fight, and he wanted me out. So I got my things and left..." Barynn's voice trailed off and she hung her head slightly, thick waves of dark hair falling in her face. "So, you know...that's over as fast as it started, I guess."

Istrain chuckled when he heard her words, shaking his head. "I'd hoped you'd like curses, considering you are one yourself," he replied, eyeing her empty teacup curiously and wondering what was in the flask. "Care to share? I could make it worth your while," he said, the smirk dancing once again upon his lips. He'd never been one for tea, anyways.

Penelo smiled, "Practice dear... you will get there." She said softly. She knew she left something out but she wasn't going to push her on that... though if she hadn't wanted it and Luther did so anyway there was going to be a big problem. Penelo swayed as she swayed if she should ask, and she decided it was a must, though she could hardly believe he would do such a thing. "Did... did he force himself on you?" She asked. It was being a bit bold, but still.

Haera turned her attention back on Istrain, "You know a fool who lets his tongue wiggle gets it cut off, where the wise knows when to bite down." She said and watched him looked at her empty cup and then at him. "You mean you will leave?" She smiled. "I would happily pour you my good stuff if ya did." She said before pouring some in his tea. "Worth my while... as if..." Haera huffed and screwed the top back on her flask and putting it back where it came from.

Barynn opened her mouth to speak, but then closed it again. She had some vague idea of what Penelo meant, but she wasn't entirely sure if Luther's actions last night constituted that. It had been forceful, yes, but not entirely unwelcome. "I don't know," she said, her voice small and hesitant. "I'm not even really sure what happened. That might have been what he did? Or how it started out...? But is that still what happened...if I said yes after a bit?" she asked, looking over at Penelo with tearful hazel eyes.

Istrain chuckled a bit when he heard her words. He picked up the teacup and took a drink, nodding his approval. He returned his hazel eyes to Haera, smirking. "I know exactly when to let my tongue wiggle and exactly when to bite down," he said calmly before returning his attention to the tea, taking another long sip. "I've got a stash of my own good stuff in my bag at Barynn's shop. Remind me to share some time, I owe you," he said, holding up the teacup for a moment before downing the last of it.

Penelo looked worried, "Did you tell him to stop at all... before the yes bit?" She asked. She wasn't too uncomfortable. She had four girls of her own. Penelo knew when they had done something, luckily her girls never had been forced, though she knew of one girl who was and it was sad, but now she was married to her son and he would have ended anyone who even looked at her in the wrong way. Roshia would murder anyone who did the same, and Haera was the one to teach Roshia to be that way. Ameria was a mistake.

Haera raised an eyebrow at him once again and shook her head before getting up and sneaking to the door before pressing her ear to the door. She caught the beginning of the conversation about Luther and listened a bit more before walking back to her brother. "Uhh did you not see a difference in your sister last night? Or this morning?" She asked. "I think your sister was kind of forced to have sex." She said.

Barynn hesitated a moment, thinking back to last night. She remembered starting to protest, but being cut off by the things his hands had been doing to her. "I didn't exactly get the chance," she said softly. "I started to, but...he didn't really let me finish..." A few tears trickled down Barynn's cheeks and she hung her head slightly. He'd stopped her by making it feel good, by making her want him to keep going. Even now as she was thinking back on it, she could remember the feeling of how much she'd needed him to continue, how much she'd wanted it, how he'd made her beg for it...

Istrain watched curiously as Haera went to the door. He couldn't imagine why she was eavesdropping. It was probably just boring jewelry talk. When she came back and spoke, though, a frown came to his lips. "I think the hell not," he replied. "She had a bad break-up last night. Trust me, I was there. Her heart is broken right now, but she'll be fine." And then, he thought, she'll remember why we don't deal in silly things like love. It may have worked for their parents and their sister, but their cases were rare ones. Commitment was just a bad idea in general. For him, the solution was to just sleep with anyone he liked without concerning himself with what would come of it, and for Barynn, the solution had been to just avoid relationships all together. It had worked well for both of them so far.

Penelo looked horrified and shook her head, "well then first thing is we have to tell the police about it... rape is very serious dear." She said. She was disappointed in Luther. Never in a million years would she have thought he would do such a thing. She moved away. "If you want I can go with you... maybe your brother? You two seem very close." She said softly.

Haera shrugged, "well that isn't what she is telling my mother in there." She said and went in the kitchen to grab her bag and walked back out. "Hope to see you falling from something very tall... which is a lot of things in your case." She laughed and went to walk out the door when she was stopped and turn around, "Try not to start shit you can't finish, kid." Haera smirked and walked out.

Barynn frowned, shaking her head quickly. "I don't want to go to the police," she said quickly. "I don't think...it was that. I mean...I didn't stop him, and then I...liked it...and then I asked him to not stop..." Barynn's face was going red and she kept her head down, not sure she could meet Penelo's gaze. "It was kind of like they always say it's supposed to be, although I should have paid more attention when they said it would hurt the first time, because it really, really did. I thought it meant that we were okay...but then he still told me to leave after, so I guess it didn't."

Istrain frowned as he heard Haera's words. It didn't make sense. Barynn would have told him if Luther had forced himself on her, wouldn't she? She'd seemed frazzled and askew when she'd come back last night, but he'd figured it was the rain and the sadness. He gave Haera a curt nod when she turned back around, uninterested in their banter while he worried about his sister. He supposed, though, that there wasn't much he could do or say until Barynn and Penelo came back. If Luther had raped his baby sister, though, then he was going to kick Luther's ass.

Penelo sighed in relief, "So he didn't... I get you now, dear. No need to be embarrassed. I have four girls and they all did it at some point. Men are complicated animals. My husband wasn't always this way. He had a good heart, yeah, but he still had a... control issue. He got over that though when I walked away. I loved him, but there was no way I was going to have his children and have them like that. But be wise and not fullish, if he is protective... that is a different story. Also guilt... he may feel bad for what happened last night or maybe he just... doesn't think it will work out between the two of you." She said apologetically. "Also... your wording, dear... we have to work on that." She chuckled softly.

Haera came back in and dropped her bag down before taking out a small present and disappeared, walking into her brother's room and placing it on his bed with a small note before coming out. She looked at the small man on her parent's couch and debated on being an ass, but she decided not to and just threw the flask at him. "You need it more than I do." She said.
