Name: Rhyanid Idophio Menidaeus | Age: 25 | Gender: Male | Species: Elf | Sexuality: Straight | Height: 6'8" | Weight: 220lbs
Pronunciation: Ryan-id | Skin colour: Dark brown | Hair colour: Dark brown | Eye colour: Dark magenta | Trade/Job: Animal trainer

Appearance:
Standing at six feet and eight inches in height, Rhyanid weighs about 220 lbs and has dark brown skin. His build is slightly muscular. As an elf, he has long, pointed ears. He has slightly narrow eyes that are a dark magenta colour and low, thin eyebrows. He has a narrow nose that is turned slightly downwards. He has wide, slightly thin lips that curl upwards a bit at the edges. His hair is a dark brown colour and he keeps it in long braids that come down just past his shoulders. He has a scar near his throat and another on his chin, as well as a large one on his left forearm. Rhyanid generally wears comfortable jeans or sweatpants and plain t-shirts.

Personality:
Rhyanid is a laidback, easygoing guy who's generally relaxed and in a good mood. He's friendly, outgoing, and cheerful. Rhyanid doesn't tend to let things bother him and likes to let things go. He has a stern side since he trains animals, and he's a fan of instruction, discipline, and routine. He's a bit of a sucker for romance, and when he dates, he's as cheesy as they come. He loves his family fiercely, and though he'd like to be protective of Zelipia, he knows that she can take care of herself and he tries to keep out of her business. He's an animal lover; while he loves all animals, dogs are his favourites, and he has a golden retriever named Sadie.

History/Bio:
Rhyanid was born in a nomadic elven tribe to his mother, Lanissa, and his father, Eriato. He had an older sister named Illyana who was six years older than him when he was born. The first three years of his life were normal for a child of his age. His father was crippled in a hunting accident when Rhyanid was a year old and became an invalid, while his mother was a trader who would take elven goods such as meat, jewelry, fish, and other crafted items into the human settlements to sell and trade them to humans. Rhyanid and Illyana were mostly raised by their uncle, since their mother was usually away and their father was unable to tend to them. When Rhyanid was three, Lanissa fell pregnant. At the beginning of her pregnancy, there was a lot of debate among the tribe about whether or not Eriato could possibly be the father, since people doubted that he was capable of performing due to his disabilities. Eriato and Lanissa both said that they engaged in relations, however, so people accepted that the baby was legitimate - until it was born with human ears.

After Rhyanid and Illyana's baby sister was born, Eriato and Lanissa were forced to tell the tribe the truth - Lanissa had been sleeping with a human in one of the towns she visited frequently, and the baby was actually his. Eriato couldn't actually perform because of his injuries, and he'd lied to protect his wife because he felt guilty that his inability to sleep with her had driven her into the arms of another man. The tribe was furious with Lanissa for lying with a man outside of her marriage, and they banished her from the tribe along with the new baby, whom she had named Zelipia. Eriato was permitted to stay in the tribe because he was a man of some rank, and because he was an invalid and the tribe couldn't send him out into the world in good conscience. Lanissa took Rhyanid with her despite the protests of the rest of the tribe, but Illyana chose to stay in the tribe with her father, uncle, and friends.

Lanissa moved to the floating islands with her two children, heartbroken about losing Illyana and Eriato. She swore off dating, deciding that she was going to focus on raising her two children and providing them with the best life she could. Learning about human life was difficult, but the children figured it out easily and enjoyed themselves growing up on the islands. Lanissa was welcomed into the home of an elderly elven woman who took pity on her for being kicked out of her tribe, having been through something similar when she'd been younger, and the elderly woman watched the children while Lanissa worked two jobs. She worked hard and saved up money until, when Rhyanid and Zelipia were ten and seven years old, she was able to afford to open up a pet shop. The elderly woman passed away two years later, leaving Lanissa the little home they'd shared in her will.

Rhyanid didn't care much for school; he tried, but he never really did well. He just wasn't too concerned with it. He knew he had a good job secured since he intended to work at his mother's pet shop, and he helped out around the shop whenever she would let him. He had a way with the animals that intrigued his mother, so she asked him to help her with training the animals and they discovered that he had a knack for it. When he was sixteen, he started officially working for his mother as an animal trainer, and hasn't looked back.

Rhyanid dated casually all through his teenage years, but it wasn't until he was twenty-one that he started dating a young woman for whom he had real, deep feelings. They dated for a year and a half before he proposed, but the girl panicked and turned him down, saying she wasn't ready for that yet. Rhyanid was heartbroken, but he tried to put it behind him and move on. He focused on the pet shop instead, helping out his aging mother and training the animals, all the while hoping that one day he'd meet a good woman to marry and give him children.

So begins...

Lanissa nodded when she heard the girl's answer. It was a good answer, since she was still discussing her skills and trying to prove that she was good for the job rather than just trusting that Lanissa was ready to hand the job over. She was, of course, but she still appreciated hearing what the girl had to say. "Yes, Rhyan mentioned that you had a son. Being a single mother is hard, I know. I've been on my own since Rhyan was almost four," she said with a nod. She looked back down at the application, giving it one last once-over to see if there was anything else she wanted to address. Rhyanid walked in while she was looking it over, not saying anything as he headed past them to another door and went through it, presumably into where they kept the animals. Lanissa looked back at Isla and smiled. "I think that's all I really have to ask, dear. You seem perfectly qualified and enthusiastic. You have a great energy and I would like to hire you," she said, setting the application down and standing up, going over to the filing cabinet and pulling out some papers.

Isla nodded, she had heard what her son had said about that. It was good to know she understood the struggle. It was hard and very tiring, but she cared for her son so much. He was such a blessing in her life that she would do anything to get him what he needed and more. She was nervous as she looked over the application and when she said she was perfectly qualified and enthusiastic she was ready to hear the but, but then she said she would like to hire her and she about screamed but she giggled instead, "Thank you very much, Miss Lanissa!" She said softly and tried not to wiggle in her seat with excitement.

Lanissa smiled over at her when she thanked her, bringing the papers over and setting them down in front of her. "Just Lanissa will do. Here's the hiring paperwork. I'll just need you to fill this all out and then I can get you worked into the schedule. When's the earliest you can start?" she asked before sitting back down at her desk. Rhyanid emerged a moment later from the next room, holding the door open as a large, fluffy golden dog trotted out after him. The dog immediately went straight to Isla and started sniffing her, and Rhyanid chuckled a bit, looking at his mother. "I'm just taking Sadie for a quick walk. I shouldn't be long," he said, and Lanissa nodded. "Of course, dear. If you see your sister, bring her back with you," she said.

Isla nodded when the woman told her to call her just by her name. She looked over the papers and smiled, "I can start as early as you would like me. My friend has my son and I have a feeling she wouldn't let him go right now if I tried to take him." She giggled before blinking at the dog that came over to her. "Oh gosh, look how pretty you are! Aww who owns you? Maybe I can talk them into taking you. My son would adore you." She said and gently petted the door. "Such a pretty pupper." She said and then looked back up at the tall elf man. "Oh darn, you are already taken, Sadie. So sorry." She giggled.

Lanissa nodded when Isla said she could start as early as she liked. "Well, then, how about we get you on the schedule for tomorrow afternoon? It's usually a busy day anyways, so we could probably use the extra set of hands, especially if my daughter decides not to show up again," she said, shaking her head a bit. Rhyanid chuckled a little, watching Isla as she fussed over Sadie, who wagged her tail eagerly and leaned up to lick the small girl's face. "Zel's off with some guy, mom," he said, and Lanissa nodded. "I know, I know," she said. She didn't mind that her daughter went off with guys, especially since she was always careful and responsible, but she still worried, as mothers should. Rhyanid snapped his fingers. "Let's go, Sadie," he said, and the dog blinked before obediently turning around and trotting after him, following him out of the back room and heading out.

Isla nodded, "I can do that. I just need the time and I will be here sharp." She said softly and looked over at Rhyanid and smiled. He called the dog over and she went so obediently. "Now if I can only do that and my son goes to sleep." She giggled. "He was way too excited to be in his new home." She said softly. She also wondered why she would let her daughter work here and still get paid if she rarely did anything, but that wasn't her business and she wasn't going to ask.

Lanissa nodded when Isla said she needed the time. She picked up the schedule for the week, looking it over and glancing up when the girl commented on how she wished she could make her son do that. She laughed a little, shaking her head. "Oh, Rhyan was the same way when we first moved here. They eventually settle down though, dear. Or, well, the boys do," she said with a smirk, looking in the direction Rhyanid had gone before looking back at the schedule. "Why don't you come in tomorrow at ten? That gives us some time in the morning to get you trained up, and then you and Rhyan can work up front when it starts getting busier while I work on the orders in the back," she suggested.

Isla nodded and giggled, "I am trying to picture him small and I just feel like he might have been almost half my height at my son's age." She giggled. When her new boss told her the time she nodded, "I shall be here at ten. Thank you again for hiring me, Lanissa. It is an honor to work here." She said and got up. "Oh, is there like... a uniform of such I should wear?" She asked softly.

Lanissa laughed a little when Isla said how tall she thought Rhyanid was when he was little. "Oh, you're probably right," she said with a smile. She nodded when she thanked her again for hiring her. "You're welcome, dear. I'm sure you'll be great," she said, glancing up when the girl stopped to ask if there was a uniform. She shook her head. "No uniform. All I ask is no visible midriffs, no cleavage, and if you wear a skirt it should at least come to your knees. There's a lot of bending and reaching involved in this job at times, and I don't want the customers - or my son - to catch an eyeful of anything unsavoury," she said with a laugh.

Isla listened and turned red from her head to her toes. "I promise you now ma'am I would never wear such things to work. I am very professional. I would rather no one take a look at any of those." She said softly. She would rather die than to have that man look at anything under her clothes. The thought of him even seeing made her skin crawl and her smile faltered a bit but it returned quickly. "I will see you tomorrow, Lanissa. Thank you again." She said softly and did a little bow before walking out.

Lanissa was amused at how red Isla got and she nodded. "Good. I figured that would be the case," she replied when Isla told her that she was very professional. "I look forward to seeing you in the morning, dear," she said before Isla left. She smiled, feeling rather pleased with this hiring decision, and then she got back to her paperwork.

Isla was super excited to start her first day of work. She had dropped off at the daycare she had heard great things about. The woman was small too and she wondered how many small women were on the islands with all these elves. Her husband was a cop and they were having a baby. She loved seeing the bellies on small women. It made her feel better when she had to carry her son. She hurried over to her work in a new dress and her hair done up. Even if there was a uniform code of some sorts she wasn't about to wear anything low cut or short around the elf man. No need to tempt him in any which way. The meer thought of him seeing anything under her clothes made her sick. She pushed away her fears as she pushed the door open and smiled. "Morning." She said softly.

Rhyanid looked up when he heard the door open, grinning when he saw the new dwarf girl come in. "Hey, Isla," he said with a nod. "My mom just had to run out for a minute. She said to just start training you if you got in before she got back, though," he chuckled. He came out from behind the counter and walked over to one of the shelves, nodding for her to come over. "So all the items have a price tag. It's got the price and an item ID on it," he said to her, grabbing a random dog toy off the shelf and gently tossing it towards her so she could take a look. "So, anything a customer brings up will have these tags. You need the price and the ID, so the tags are important. If the tag is missing, just check the shelf for another item that's the same and use the price and ID off that," he said.

Isla blinked and mentally sighed. She was hoping his mom would be in, but she smiled brightly before catching the toy. She listened to what he had to say, looking at what he had been talking about and then checking the other ones like it. It was rather simple, she did the same thing with the gift shop at her old job, but she didn't want to seem rude and would rather him go over it than come off as cocky. She gently placed it back in its spot.

Rhyanid waited while she looked over the other tags, smiling and then nodding for her to come over to the counter with him. He opened up the drawer and pulled out a stack of papers with forms on them. "So when you have a customer making a purchase, you write down the time and date up here, then you put the item ID in this column and the price in this column. Once you've gone through everything they're buying, you total up the cost in this column, write the total here, and that's what they owe you. I'm sure you already know how to do basic math and handle money," he said with a chuckle. "We'll get you a key of your own for the cash drawer, but for now, you can just use mine," he added, pulling a keyring out of his pocket and removing one of the keys from it, holding it out to her.

Isla followed the man, keeping her distance but staying close enough she could see and hear what he was doing. She watched him go over how she should do the transactions and nodded when he as said he was sure she knew the basic math and handling money. It was true, she did. She smiled when he said they would be getting her her own key and gently reached up to grab the key he had holding out for her. "So when they are wanting a pet I can just come to get your or your mother, right? She said she wanted one of you with me for something like that because of all the paperwork and stuff." She said softly.

Rhyan nodded when Isla asked if she should get him or his mother. "Yeah. If someone wants a pet, just grab me or my mom, or my sister Zel if she's around. There's paperwork and stuff that needs to be done first, so we'll probably take the customer into the office to handle that and let you deal with other customers out here," he explained. He paused, and then glanced around. "That's pretty much it for handling transactions. Come on, I'll show you around the back and you can see where we keep the animals," he said with a grin, heading to the door to the back and opening it up, holding it politely for her.

Isla listened and when he walked off and held the door open she nodded, though she didn't want to go further into any place with him. Upfront was fine but back there people couldn't see what was going on and if he tried something she was screwed if she couldn't get out in time. She walked in and followed him. "My son loves dogs. Back on the island when he was sitting in his little play thing, still don't know the word for it, we had a few of the island dogs come up and play with him. James found it quite hilarious when they licked him." She giggled, talking so she didn't have some kind of panic attack.

Rhyanid chuckled when she talked about how her son loved dogs, nodding. "Oh, believe me, I know exactly how he feels. Dogs are my favourites," he said. Once they were in the back office he led her through another door. "So as you obviously saw, we keep the fish in tanks along the back wall of the store, the birds are in their cages on the sales floor, and the rodents and reptiles are in tanks along the side wall, but we keep the cats and dogs back here," he explained to her. The room was almost larger than the sales floor was, with a wall of caged kittens on one side and a wall of caged puppies along the other. The cages were spacious enough that the animals had space to play, and most of them were in with other animals so they'd have companions to play with, although a few animals had been put in cages by themselves. Sadie was lying at the far end of the room, unleashed and uncaged, and she jumped to her feet and came bounding towards them when she saw them come in. Rhyanid knelt down and she came straight to him, licking his face and wagging her tail eagerly. "Easy there, girl. Say hi to Isla," he said, petting Sadie before standing up. The dog turned towards Isla and did a little spin before moving closer to sniff her.

Isla followed and walked into the room before looking around. "Oh goodness look at how cute these babies are. I would have them all if I could." She sighed before watching Sadie come up to her owner. She giggled at the interaction and moved away from the man as far as she could but looking at the nearest animal when Sadie came over to sniff her. "Hello there again." She smiled before gently petting the animal. "She is so pretty... how do you not spoil her rotten? Oh... I can't wait to show you and your mom my all time talent... but I am going to need to work on it during breaks. Nothing bad... really kind of cool. The people loved it at the aquarium. Of course your fish are smaller... but it makes it A LOT easier." She giggled.
