Name: Rhyanid Idophio Menidaeus | Age: 25 | Gender: Male | Species: Elf | Sexuality: Straight | Height: 6'8" | Weight: 220lbs
Pronunciation: Ryan-id | Skin colour: Dark brown | Hair colour: Dark brown | Eye colour: Dark magenta | Trade/Job: Animal trainer

Appearance:
Standing at six feet and eight inches in height, Rhyanid weighs about 220 lbs and has dark brown skin. His build is slightly muscular. As an elf, he has long, pointed ears. He has slightly narrow eyes that are a dark magenta colour and low, thin eyebrows. He has a narrow nose that is turned slightly downwards. He has wide, slightly thin lips that curl upwards a bit at the edges. His hair is a dark brown colour and he keeps it in long braids that come down just past his shoulders. He has a scar near his throat and another on his chin, as well as a large one on his left forearm. Rhyanid generally wears comfortable jeans or sweatpants and plain t-shirts.

Personality:
Rhyanid is a laidback, easygoing guy who's generally relaxed and in a good mood. He's friendly, outgoing, and cheerful. Rhyanid doesn't tend to let things bother him and likes to let things go. He has a stern side since he trains animals, and he's a fan of instruction, discipline, and routine. He's a bit of a sucker for romance, and when he dates, he's as cheesy as they come. He loves his family fiercely, and though he'd like to be protective of Zelipia, he knows that she can take care of herself and he tries to keep out of her business. He's an animal lover; while he loves all animals, dogs are his favourites, and he has a golden retriever named Sadie.

History/Bio:
Rhyanid was born in a nomadic elven tribe to his mother, Lanissa, and his father, Eriato. He had an older sister named Illyana who was six years older than him when he was born. The first three years of his life were normal for a child of his age. His father was crippled in a hunting accident when Rhyanid was a year old and became an invalid, while his mother was a trader who would take elven goods such as meat, jewelry, fish, and other crafted items into the human settlements to sell and trade them to humans. Rhyanid and Illyana were mostly raised by their uncle, since their mother was usually away and their father was unable to tend to them. When Rhyanid was three, Lanissa fell pregnant. At the beginning of her pregnancy, there was a lot of debate among the tribe about whether or not Eriato could possibly be the father, since people doubted that he was capable of performing due to his disabilities. Eriato and Lanissa both said that they engaged in relations, however, so people accepted that the baby was legitimate - until it was born with human ears.

After Rhyanid and Illyana's baby sister was born, Eriato and Lanissa were forced to tell the tribe the truth - Lanissa had been sleeping with a human in one of the towns she visited frequently, and the baby was actually his. Eriato couldn't actually perform because of his injuries, and he'd lied to protect his wife because he felt guilty that his inability to sleep with her had driven her into the arms of another man. The tribe was furious with Lanissa for lying with a man outside of her marriage, and they banished her from the tribe along with the new baby, whom she had named Zelipia. Eriato was permitted to stay in the tribe because he was a man of some rank, and because he was an invalid and the tribe couldn't send him out into the world in good conscience. Lanissa took Rhyanid with her despite the protests of the rest of the tribe, but Illyana chose to stay in the tribe with her father, uncle, and friends.

Lanissa moved to the floating islands with her two children, heartbroken about losing Illyana and Eriato. She swore off dating, deciding that she was going to focus on raising her two children and providing them with the best life she could. Learning about human life was difficult, but the children figured it out easily and enjoyed themselves growing up on the islands. Lanissa was welcomed into the home of an elderly elven woman who took pity on her for being kicked out of her tribe, having been through something similar when she'd been younger, and the elderly woman watched the children while Lanissa worked two jobs. She worked hard and saved up money until, when Rhyanid and Zelipia were ten and seven years old, she was able to afford to open up a pet shop. The elderly woman passed away two years later, leaving Lanissa the little home they'd shared in her will.

Rhyanid didn't care much for school; he tried, but he never really did well. He just wasn't too concerned with it. He knew he had a good job secured since he intended to work at his mother's pet shop, and he helped out around the shop whenever she would let him. He had a way with the animals that intrigued his mother, so she asked him to help her with training the animals and they discovered that he had a knack for it. When he was sixteen, he started officially working for his mother as an animal trainer, and hasn't looked back.

Rhyanid dated casually all through his teenage years, but it wasn't until he was twenty-one that he started dating a young woman for whom he had real, deep feelings. They dated for a year and a half before he proposed, but the girl panicked and turned him down, saying she wasn't ready for that yet. Rhyanid was heartbroken, but he tried to put it behind him and move on. He focused on the pet shop instead, helping out his aging mother and training the animals, all the while hoping that one day he'd meet a good woman to marry and give him children.

So begins...

Isla listened and nodded, "Okay, sounds good." She said softly and went back to pet Sadie. "So you wanna do that now or?" She asked. They had both left the front open and unsupervised so she was wondering how long they were going to be in the back before they headed out. Plus she didn't want to be back here any longer than she had to.

Rhyanid nodded when she asked if he wanted to go do that now. "Yeah, sure. Sadie, pillow," he said, his voice getting stern when he addressed the dog. Sadie gave a quiet bark before turning and trotting over to her pillow on the far end of the room, obediently lying down. Rhyanid took the puppy with him, opening and holding the doors for Isla as he led her back to the front of the shop. "If you bring a puppy out you should be fine, but if you bring any of the kittens out with you, just keep an eye on them because some of them will try to annoy Soup," he told her as he headed to the front counter with her and the puppy.

Isla walked back with him and smiled, "Okay." She said softly and waited for him to explain the appointment things. She wondered how long his mother was going to be. She hated feeling this way and she hid it deep down as much as possible. Her baby deserved the world and she was about damned if she didn't give it to him. "I feel like the kittens are going to be a bit of a handful if I bring them up... maybe on breaks I can play with them in the back?" She asked.

Rhyanid headed to the desk and opened a drawer, pulling out a collar and leash and attaching it to the puppy before gently tying the leash to one leg of the desk. He looked over at her when she said the kittens would be a handful and he nodded. "The kittens will definitely be a handful. You're more than welcome to play with them in the back on your break, assuming you're not busy eating or anything," he chuckled before opening another drawer and pulling out some forms. "So these are the appointment forms for grooming, and these are the ones for training. The forms themselves are pretty straightforward - the animal's name, type, age, and breed, along with the name of the owner and a spot for any additional notes or details. There's an item ID and pricing chart on the form so you can charge the customer if they want to pay ahead of time, otherwise Zel or I will charge the customer when they come in - it just depends what the customer wants. You keep the white copy and give the customer the yellow copy. If the customer pays when they book, just sign the form right here where it says 'paid' so we know," he explained, pointing to each thing he addressed as he went over it. "There's a calendar in the office so you can find a time that works for both the customer and me or my sister, depending whether it's grooming or training they need done. We had a girl who worked here for the summer who was constantly double-booking the grooming sessions and it was driving my sister nuts," he said with a laugh.

Isla tippy toes but looked over what he was going over and then nodded. It looked pretty simple and straightforward. "Oh I will make sure that won't happen." She said softly and looked down at the puppy who was trying to naw at the leash. She could have died at the cuteness. Isla looked back up at him and smiled.

Rhyanid nodded when she said she wouldn't double-book any appointments. "Good. Oh, and this is a personal discretion thing, but I never let customers schedule any grooming appointments for when we open because I know my sister likes to sleep in. She'll still come and do them if you book them for nine, but she probably won't like you much. I usually don't book them until at least ten, if not later," he said. He followed her gaze down to the puppy as it gnawed at the leash and he blinked. "Hey," he said sternly, and the dog blinked, looking up at him with big pouty eyes. "No chewing," he said, and the puppy whined a little, but stopped. The door to the shop opened and in came Lanissa, carrying a shopping bag full of fresh vegetables. She smiled when she saw Rhyanid and Isla at the desk. "Oh, good, you've already gotten started. Don't let me keep you, dears," she said, giving a wave of her hand as she headed for the back. She reached up and playfully tugged at a piece of her son's hair as she walked by before disappearing into the back of the shop.

Isla blinked and jumped when he started to talk to the dog. She was going to have to get used to that voice of his. It was worrisome. He seemed friendly, but when he talked to the dogs and ordered them about it was a whole new him. She looked up when she heard the door open and smiled. "Hello." She said softly and giggled when she tugged her son's hair. Isla didn't want her to go and leave them again, but she did and she smiled up at him. "Momma's boy?" She teased just a tad.

Rhyanid chuckled when his mother tugged at his hair, looking over at Isla when she teased him about being a momma's boy. He smirked a bit, nodding. "Just a bit," he said with a chuckle. "Anyways, that's pretty much all I can think to tell you about. I'm going to go help my mom with the vegetables. You can hang out up here and get familiar with the layout of the store, if you'd like. Lots of customers will ask where to find things, so it helps to know where everything is. I'm sure I don't have to teach you about customer service. You seem nice," he said with a bit of a shrug before heading for the back. "If you need anything, just give a holler and one of us will come out to give you a hand."

Isla smiled softly and nodded when he said to get familiar with the store so when he left she took the puppy off the leash and held him close before going around the store and familiarize herself with it. The birds were beautiful but annoying. The fish were simply gorgeous and she went around until she memorized them enough. The puppy gently played with her fingers as she walked around.

After a bit, Lanissa came out into the front room carrying a large bowl of salad. She was dressed a little more casually today, and she headed over to the reptile enclosures along the side wall, beginning to carefully open the tops, put some salad in the food bowls, and then close them up again. "So, Isla, tell me about your son," she said, looking over at the girl with a smile as she worked at feeding the lizards.

Isla had just put the puppy on the leash again when her boss walked out. She watched as she fed the lizards. Some of them were really cute and she had swayed around with the puppy and watched their heads follow. The puppy had started to sway with her too. She smiled when she was asked to talk about her son. "Well, James is nine months old. He is half dwarf and half-elf. Though he really didn't get the ears, was kind of hoping for those but, I love him all the same." She giggled. "He really loves dogs and the word cow makes him have a giggle fit. He is a sweet boy and can be shy, but... he is a real sweetheart." She said softly.

Lanissa listened while Isla talked about her son, continuing to feed the lizards and nodding as the girl spoke. "He sounds just delightful. You'll have to bring him in one day so we can meet him," she said with a smile. "Yes, it's rather rare for half-elves to get the elven ears. My younger daughter is half-human and she didn't get the elven ears," she responded. She glanced over at Isla, amused at how she was interacting with the puppy. "I love your outfit today, dear, by the way. Have you spent some time meeting the fish yet? I know you said they were your specialty."

Isla smiled brightly, "Thank you, ma'am. I am sure he would love the visit." She said softly and looked down at her outfit and giggled. "Thank you... if I come in a random dress please just know my son picked it out. Though it will be appropriate for work." She said softly before nodding. "Oh yes! They are very beautiful. And I was telling Rhyanid about my skills with the fish. He seemed a bit impressed." She smiled.

Lanissa smiled over at Isla. "I thought I told you to just call me Lanissa?" she said. She nodded when the girl said that her son picked random dresses for her. "That's adorable. I never really had any variety in my clothes when Rhyan was little or I'm sure he'd have done the same for me, though he did help me pick outfits for his sister when she was a baby," she said with a grin.

Isla's blue eyes went a little wide, "I'm sorry." She said softly and smiled when she talked about her son. "That's adorable. I will make sure to tease him a tad about it." She joked and giggled a bit before cooing at the puppy who was laying flat on the floor. "Is the floor cold? Yeah? I bet it feels real nice on your little belly." She giggled.

Lanissa laughed when Isla said that she was going to tease Rhyanid about it. She definitely wanted to keep an eye on this girl. If her son was half-elf, that might mean she had a preference for elves, and there had been more than a few girls over the years who'd come to work at the pet shop in an attempt to get close to Rhyanid. She was proud that her son had grown into an attractive young man, but she wanted to hire people who were dedicated to the job itself - although, Isla already seemed like she would be. She laughed a little at the girl's words towards the dog, shaking her head a bit. "It is a cute one, isn't it? The other puppies were all picking on it and it's afraid of other dogs now, such a shame. We're going to recommend it live in a home with no other dogs, although Rhyan's going to do what he can to try to teach it not to be fearful of other dogs."

Isla was not attracted to elves anymore. She had been before Dover came and ruined it. She much rather not have to deal with such creatures in such a way again. She wanted to do her job and go home to her son. If she met a nice dwarf or human, sure, but no to the elves on a high level. Isla frowned a bit when she found out what happened. "Oh no... puppy... who could pick on something as cute as you? Maybe Sadie can help with that? Maybe... I know we tend to do that with the fishes back home. You will be shocked how some fish are like dogs and cats." She smiled.

Lanissa nodded when Isla suggested that Sadie could help with the little dog being afraid of other dogs. "Yes, that's his plan. Sadie's such a gentle sweetheart and she's so good with the puppies," she said with a laugh. She finished giving the salad to the reptiles and set the empty bowl on the counter, walking to the front of the store where the cat condo was. Soup lazily looked over at her when she approached, stretching a bit as he stood up. She reached over and petted him and he pushed his head happily into her hand. Lanissa smiled, looking over at Isla. "This is Soup. He's my daughter's cat. He'll sometimes walk around the store or sleep under the counter, but he usually doesn't like to leave his condo. I don't recommend approaching him or petting him unless he comes to you first. He has a bit of a mean streak."

Isla smiled and listened to her. Her eyes followed the woman to the condo and smiled. "Understood." She said softly and looked down at the puppy who was now sleeping on her shoe. She wanted to die of cuteness. "Such a cutie." She whispered.

Lanissa nodded when Isla said she understood not to bother Soup unless he came to her first. "You can bother Sadie all you want, though. She usually hangs around in the back. She's able to open doors, so if she needs something she might come looking for someone, and she keeps an eye on the puppies and kittens in the back, so if there's something wrong she'll come to get us," she told her. She smiled when she saw that the puppy had fallen asleep on Isla's foot, and then glanced up when the door opened and a young couple came in holding hands. She smiled, looking over at Isla. "You're up, dear," she said.
