ImageName: Spencer Owen Callahan
Age: 13
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Sexuality: Too young to know
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 120lbs
Skin colour: Lightly tanned
Hair colour: Blonde
Eye colour: Blue
Trade: Student

Image

Appearance:
Because he is still only thirteen years of age, Spencer has yet to reach his full height, weight, or body mass. He currently stands at an approximate five feet and three inches, although he's in the middle of a period of rapid growth and will probably grow taller at a very rapid rate. He weighs roughly 120lbs and his body type is a bit lanky, although that's because he's in a growth spurt. His parents suspect that he'll be tall and slim when he's older. Spencer has fair skin that is always lightly tanned because of the time he spends outdoors, and his shaggy hair is a blond colour that gets lighter when exposed to sunlight. He has strong brows and slightly narrow blue eyes. He generally dresses quite simply, wearing t-shirts and jeans or shorts, although sometimes he'll wear a button-up shirt or a jacket as well. Spencer has a small birthmark on his right leg and really wants to get one of his ears pierced.

Image

Personality:
Spencer is a bit on the quiet side, though he's not quite shy - he just doesn't have a lot to say. He's friendly enough, though, and while he enjoys playing with other kids, he also enjoys doing independent activities. Spencer has a passion for drawing, but he's generally quite private about it. He always carries a sketchpad and pencils around in his bag, just in case inspiration strikes. Spencer is relatively optimistic. He's not a very bold or headstrong person, and can be a tad sensitive. Spencer has a really cool coin collection.

Image

History/Bio:
Spencer was born the youngest child of Richard and Jodie Callahan. He has three older siblings: Cynthia is fifteen, Aaron is sixteen, and Kyle is nineteen. Spencer's parents are a bit older than most parents of kids his age, since they didn't start having children until they were in their mid-thirties and Spencer was born when they were in their early forties, now putting them in their mid-fifties. His parents chose to have children late because they wanted to establish themselves and know that, financially, they were ready for children. They own a successful and popular coffee shop in the city along with a rental apartment above it. Richard works as a financial advisor, though he is considering retirement, while Jodie runs the day-to-day business of the coffee shop and does nail art on the side. Spencer's childhood has been pretty much average for a kid growing up on the islands. He does well in school, enjoys playing with other kids, and really looks up to his two older brothers. He really wants to be an artist of some sort one day, whether it's doing police sketch art, sketching ideas for architects, or selling his artwork commercially.

So begins...

Isla stuffed a puppy into each of her pocket dress and they stayed, kind of confused on what to do and she picked up a couple more. "She did I assume, I just went back there. I had gone time in and then I kind of stared at it for a bit since I didn't get much sleep, headed out and then came back in to see if they needed to be fed." She said as she slowly wobbled over to the back and began to put them in. She tippy-toed to put the ones at the top and wondered if they were hurt from the jump. "Hey, Mr. Party Giant, you think you can look at the top puppies and kittens to see if they are hurt?" She called out.

Sullivan smiled and looked down at his hands, "Well thank you, Miss Heidi. I do appreciate the kind words. Hm, it really depends on your views and values when it comes to us. You have the honest and hardworking, those who lie and cheat to get where they are, and so much more. I am sure I am different than the Silverson brothers in some ways. Though we seemed to all be doing well." He smiled before blinking when she said she was an orphan. "An orphan? Maybe that is what your pretty friend with the nice hair meant when you said you didn't have your parents to help support you, though honestly, I think you are a very independent woman though." He said softly.

The night at Amell's friend's house seemed to still linger. She was pissed at her brother for being a cunt about how his daughter felt in the whole situation. Especially with that damn kid. Hazel had come into her room while she had been gone and fell asleep. Vlora didn't have the heart to make her moved so she cuddled up with her and they slept like that. Hazel had been quiet, usually staying out of his way and reading in a tiny spot in the house somewhere or going out and finding someplace outside. Her brother could feel her discomfort and it killed him. She knew he wanted to be close to her, but he sure fucked it up a few steps that night. Her brother had came back home and asked where Hazel was and she shrugged before going meet Bastian. She got to his office and walked in, smiling. "Hello, Claire. Is Bastian free?" She asked.

Hazel had been feeling some kind of way with her father. She was happy that he was happy but she felt like she had been intruding into his life even more so when she saw him playing family with the Garmolds. Plus she didn't care for the way the woman smirked at her father fussing at her aunt, though she knew that it was rude to curse in someone else's home and they not know each other, especially with a kid there. But then the woman and her sister even did it themselves. She realized she liked Dan and the quiet twin the most. She had been walking around the lake when she saw a boy deep into his drawing and walked over quietly before looking at what he was drawing. "You have a very nice hand. Your work is lovely." She said softly and smiled.

Rhyanid kept carefully picking up animals, putting them in their cages and making sure to close the door between each animal he put in so they wouldn't escape again. He figured this was a task best done slowly. When Isla asked to check the animals in the top cages to see if they'd been hurt, he blinked. "It's only like three feet. Most of them are big enough not to be hurt by a jump like that, but yeah, I'll check them," he said with a nod. He helped her finish gathering up the animals, and even Sadie joined in, gently picking up one of the puppies by the scruff of the neck and carrying it over to Rhyanid. He laughed a little and patted her head. "Good girl," he said, taking the puppy from her and putting it back in its cage.

Heidi smiled when he said he appreciated her words, listening curiously when he talked about the natures of other businessmen. "Well, then, maybe they're all interesting. I feel like a conversation with one who lies and cheats would be fascinating, especially for character purposes. Not that I'd ever want to condone such behaviour, though," she said softly. When he asked about her being an orphan and said that Chloe had mentioned her not having her parents, she blinked. "Oh...yes, I'm an orphan. I was raised in the orphanage in the kingdom below," she said. "When were you talking to Chloe about me?"

Claire looked up when Vlora came in, giving her a small but polite smile and shaking her head. "Mr. De Larousse is just finishing up with his last client for the day. He should be done shortly. Feel free to take a seat," she said, nodding towards the sitting area before getting back to her work.

Spencer was sitting out by the lake drawing. It was a beautiful day out, his parents were both working, and he and his siblings had pretty much scattered. He gazed out at the water and then back down at the paper, working out a few more details. He was so focused on the paper that he didn't hear the girl come up behind him. When she spoke, he jumped slightly, whipping around. "Oh!" he said, clearly startled before frantically closing the cover of his sketchpad. "Sorry, I, uh, didn't realize you were there. How long were you there...?" he asked.

Isla blinked, "Oh well..." She shrugged and helped and when Sadie helped she giggled. When they were all done she sighed and sat down on a stool looked at the cage. "They were free babies for a bit. I bet they had an adventure. Dear god... practice for when my baby starts to walk and run... freaking mini legs just running. I think I am dying." She laughed and stood. For a moment she forgot about her fear of being in a closed room away from people.

Sullivan chuckled, "I see no flaw in wanting to talk to someone for inspiration." He said with a shrug. "Every interaction can lead you to make a best seller." He smiled before listening and nodding. "Oh well, when you went get your books. She came over and we chatted for a moment. I believed she threatened me if I didn't play nice. She scared me straight so now I am playing nice." He joked with a chuckled.

Vlora nodded and went to have a seat in the area where Claire nodded towards.

Hazel giggled and shook her head before standing straight and hooking her thumbs in her overall pockets as one of her hands held an old book. "It's okay! I haven't been here long. I was just walking around for a spot to read and then you looked sooo into your work that I had to see if you could actually draw or something, but you can. It looked really good." She giggled. "Oh I am, Hazel, by the way. I live over there in the like... eggeplant lake house." She said and pointed. Hazel was so excited to have someone her own age on the islands.

Rhyanid was relieved when they finished and got all the puppies and kittens back in their cages. His headache was mostly gone now, though he wasn't sure whether that was because of the pills or whether that was because he'd been so sidetracked with the animals that he wasn't really processing it. He laughed a little at Isla's words, checking each cage to make sure the right animals were in there while she talked. "I think we got everyone back where they're supposed to be. Go us," he said with a chuckle before hearing the sound of his mother knocking on the office door. "Rhyan, let me in! This isn't funny!" he heard Lanissa call, and his eyes went wide. "Shit," he said, leaving the back room and heading into the office.

He unlocked and opened the door and saw his mother on the other side with her arms folded over her chest. "Rhyan, why did you lock the office door?" she asked, walking in and grabbing her keys off the desk. Rhyanid blinked. "Whoever fed the animals this morning left the cage doors open, so I locked the door to make sure you wouldn't open it and accidentally let any of the loose animals go out into the shop," he said, and she raised an eyebrow. "That's hardly possible, honey. I fed the animals this morning, since you were late and Isla wouldn't be in until an hour after we opened. I certainly didn't leave the cage doors unlocked," she said. "Where's Isla?"

Heidi smiled a bit when he said that wanting to talk to one of these scumbag rich men would be a good interaction for her since it would help with her writing. She was glad he didn't seem to be judging her for thinking it would be interesting. She nodded understandingly when he said that he'd talked to Chloe while she was getting the books. "Oh... well, okay," she said, shaking her head a bit at the thought of Chloe threatening him. "Chloe's sweet. She means well, she's just...bold and vivacious," she said with a smile.

A few minutes after Vlora sat down, a young woman came all but storming out of Bastian's office. She had red hair and likely would have been quite pretty, but her face was slightly withered and hollowed and her eyes were sunken, drug addiction evident in her appearance. She looked pissed, and didn't even look at Claire or Vlora as she left the office. Bastian appeared in the office doorway a moment later, after the front door had slammed shut. He was about to speak to Claire when he saw Vlora. "Oh, you're here," he said with a smile. "I hope you weren't waiting too long."

Spencer blinked when the girl said she'd wanted to see if he could actually draw and he glanced down at his closed sketchpad before looking back up at her. "Yeah...I don't really usually show people what I'm working on, but thanks," he told her with a smile. "My name's Spencer," he said when she introduced herself. "Oh, you live in the huge house by the lake? I saw the people working on it, it was this huge guy and this tiny girl, but I haven't been out here for a bit and I didn't realize the family they were fixing it up for had moved in. I actually...kind of drew a picture of the guy who'd been working on it," he laughed.

Isla nodded and smiled before she could say anything she heard her boss and her eyes got a bit big. Then she watched him leave before getting up and walking after him before stopping. Her boss had asked where she was and she took a deep breath before letting out and walking out to see her and Rhyan. "I am here, sorry... I was helping Rhyan," She said before a small bark came from her pocket. "Oh shoot!" She said before sliding the small puppy from her pocket. "Sorry buddy, you were just so quiet. Did you fall asleep?" She said softly.

Sullivan listened and nodded, "She was very interesting, to say the least." He laughed a bit. "I did enjoy her company for that short amount of time. A woman like her is always nice to have as a friend, keeps things lively. I bet she is a dime with all of your customers." He said before looking over to a passerby then back at her. "I know you said you didn't really go out eating, but what would you say would be your favorite food, Miss Heidi?" He asked.

Vlora watched the pretty drug headed woman walk out and then looked up when she heard Bastian. "Hey," She smiled and stood up. "Ahh nah, wasn't too long. Another minute and I would have had to start charging for my time." She teased him as she walked to meet up, "Are you okay?" She asked before looking back at the door.

Hazel listened and smiled more, "Aw well I am sorry for looking at it, well kind of. I think it was worth the peek." She said softly before laughing a bit when she heard he drew her father. "Oh! You drew my dad." She said excitedly. "Yeah it was him and his... friend who had been working on it." She said softly and looked at his sketchbook. "Would it be okay to see that one?" She asked.

Lanissa looked at Isla when she came out, a frown coming to the older woman's face. "Isla, dear, what happened? Rhyanid says the cages were all open, but I know I closed them when I fed the puppies and I was just finishing that up when you arrived. You, Rhyan and I are the only ones who've really been here. Would you like to tell me what happened?" she asked. Rhyanid, figuring they should probably talk without him, slunk off to the front of the shop.

Heidi smiled and nodded a bit when he commented that he'd enjoyed Chloe's company and that she was a good person to have as a friend. When he commented on her being a dime with the customers, she blinked. "A dime...?" she asked slowly, not entirely sure what he meant by that word given the context. When he asked her about her favourite food she blinked, thinking about it for a minute. "That's a difficult question. Choosing one favourite almost creates a sense of restriction, because there are just so many things I like and I don't think I can pick only one," she said, blushing a bit.

Bastian smiled when Vloria told him that she hadn't been waiting too long, nodding a bit. "I certainly hope you don't start charging for your time. I'd be a destitute rather quickly if you did. I'm fine, ma belle," he said with a smile. He glanced over at Claire, who was eyeing him expectantly. "Claire, if you could please cancel my appointment with Madame Dupont next week?" he asked, and Claire blinked. "Would you like to cancel her appointment for the week after, too?" she asked, and Bastian furrowed his brow a bit. "Any and all upcoming appointments with Madame Dupont should be canceled, please," he said. Claire gave a nod, and then Bastian looked to Vlora. "Let me just get my briefcase from upstairs and we can be on our way, if you'd like," he said.

Spencer shrugged a bit when she apologized for looking at the sketchbook. "Oh, it's fine, I guess," he said. He blinked when she said that it was her father who'd been working on the house with his friend. "Really? That's neat. I kinda figured that she was his wife since they reminded me a lot of how my parents are when they're together. But, uh...yeah, sure, I guess so," he said, blinking before opening his book, beginning to flip through it in search of the picture he'd drawn of her dad. "It's not so great, it was just a preliminary thing before I stopped, and I couldn't really get a lot of details since I never saw him super close, but uhh here it is," he said as he found the drawing and stopped flipping so she could look at it.

Isla frowned too, "I hadn't been in the back back until I went in and was swamped with animals. I had come in the back to clock in. I spaced out a bit since I had a long night with my son, then I went back up. I came back in to see maybe they needed to be fed since Rhyan hadn't come in early and then all of this." She said.

Sullivan blinked and shifted in his seat, "A dime means someone enjoyable. Like... a dime out of pennies. She stands out and is enjoyable." He said. When she said she couldn't choose he thought about it and rubbed his jaw. "Hmm, well let me narrow it down some. What kind of candy do you like? Chocolate? Chocolate with nuts or fruit?" He asked and nodded that he wanted to ask her that.

Vlora shook her head and smirked. She listened to the two talk and blinked before smirking rather evilly. "Is she your high-class hooker?" She asked, trying not to laugh. "Well that explains why we are friends, but I guess I could call all this community work." She smirked and shook her head at the thought of him to have a hooker and that just killed her. She tried really hard not to laugh.

Hazel blinked when he said that he thought she was his wife, "Oh... uhm no... supposedly they are just friends. Or that is what he says anyway." She said and watched as he flipped through his book and then leaned in to see and laughed, "Oh my god... that is so darn good, Spence. You are very very talented. You even caught his scariness so well. Thank you for showing me." She said softly and giggled a bit.

Lanissa listened while Isla explained that she hadn't been in the back at all. She frowned a bit, furrowing his brow. "How is it possible, then, for someone to have walked right past us and into the back room to open the cages and then get back out without us noticing?" she asked, and then she sighed. "Look, dear, it's fine. We've all been there. You turn your back for a second and an animal gets out, and then the rest of the animals in the cage hop out while you're trying to get that one back in. I understand, dear - just be more careful next time, that's all."

Heidi nodded a bit when he explained what he meant by dime. "Oh! I've never heard that used that way, but I suppose that makes sense," she said with a small smile. When he asked about her choice of candy, she laughed a little. "Chocolate is the only right answer to that. I'm partial to smooth milk chocolate with no nuts or fruit or anything like that in it. The creamier, the better," she said before sighing a little dreamily. "What about you? Wait, no, let me guess. You seem like...hmm...you seem like a dark chocolate type...maybe with almond nougat?" she asked with a laugh, fairly certain that she was way off.

Bastian blinked when Vlora asked if Madame Dupont was a high-class hooker, shaking his head slightly. "No, she's not my prostitute. I wouldn't sleep with a client, no matter how much she may throw herself at me," he said with a sigh, eyeing the door through which the drug-addled woman had gone before shaking his head again. "I'll be right back," he said, leaning over and kissing her cheek before hurrying upstairs. He came back down a moment later with his briefcase in hand, locking the door to his office and then looking at Claire. "I'm leaving now. You are more than welcome to go home early if you should be so inclined, just take care to lock the door behind you," he said, and Claire nodded in response.

Spencer nodded when she said that they were just friends, blinking a bit at the last part. "Or that's what he says? Are you saying you don't believe him?" he asked with a bit of a smirk. When she said that the drawing was good and that he was talented, his face went a bit red and he smiled before closing the book back up. "Well, uh, thanks," he told her with a grin. "Like I said, I don't really show people my drawings...but I'm glad you like them," he said.

Isla blinked. Was she seriously being blamed for this? "Yeah... of course." She said and looked passed her boss and to the door. "Is there anything else you need me for, Miss Lanissa?" She asked. Isla was tired and rather not in the mood to be talking to her boss. If she wasn't friends with Talila and if her son wasn't half, she would have sworn off elves. Most of them were too damn much of a hassle and not much worth the energy.

Sullivan smiled as she talked, "Mmm it might just be from where I am from and not so much a popular saying. It happens." He said before listening to her talk about chocolate. He took a mental note of what kind of chocolate she liked. He could have sworn he had seen a chocolate shop around the city somewhere. He would find it once he dropped her off back at her place after. When she took a guess for what his favorite chocolate was he laughed and leaned forward a tad, "Close... you were halfway right. I, like yourself, love milk chocolate, but I love it to be covering some almond nougat." He chuckled. "I have to say... I like your taste in sweets. Now let me guess something of you, since you so kindly guessed for me." He said and thought about it. "Your favorite color is... yellow?" He asked, "Though I am probably going to be dead wrong." He smirked.

Vlora blinked, "Lord, whose client is she and does he pay well?" She joked before shaking her head. She nodded when he said he would be right back and blinked when he kissed her cheek. He had been kissing her a lot, not that she was complaining. French people were a bit on the weird side. When he came back down and talked to Claire she smiled, waving the elf woman goodbye, before walking out. "So uhm... I hope you are free tomorrow." She smiled.

Hazel looked at him and shrugged, "I mean... I only met him like... a half a week ago... so I can't say that I do or don't just yet." She said. The young girl took notice of Spencer's reddening face and giggled. "Oh you are very welcome! I am sorry for sneaking up on you like that and taking a peek... so uhm... you are from the islands, right?" She asked.

Lanissa shook her head when Isla asked if there was anything else she needed. "No, dear, that's all," she replied with a smile before going to sit down at her desk, pushing aside Rhyanid's half-eaten breakfast. Rhyanid was sitting out at the counter, a little nervous. He hoped Isla wouldn't get in trouble for what had happened. He doubted his mother had left the doors open, but he also didn't think Isla would open them all herself. He'd seen the mess that back room had been in, so he knew that it wasn't just one or two doors - if it had only been one or two then perhaps the latch could have come undone accidentally, but not all of the cages at once.

Heidi nodded a bit when he commented that the saying might just be a local thing where he was from. She smiled a bit when he said that he liked milk chocolate as well, nodding a bit. When he asked about her favourite colour and guessed yellow, she smiled a bit. "It's a bit of a toss-up between yellow and blue, so you were halfway right," she said with a laugh. They talked a bit longer before the rain finally cleared up, and she let him walk her back to the coffee shop. It hadn't been an altogether unpleasant day. He was a nice enough man, though she still wasn't sure she was sold. Chloe was insistent that she should be, but Heidi just shrugged it off. She spent the rest of the day at home, gazing out her little window overlooking the street and doing some writing. She headed to bed for the night, somewhat dreading the next day since she would be back to work at the coffee shop. Morning came and she got ready for her day, grabbing a breakfast sandwich in the coffee shop before heading out to get to work on the mail delivery for the day.

Bastian blinked when she questioned whose client she was. "Well, she was my client, but I have reasonable belief that this meeting was our last. I'll not repeat what she said as it was more than a little unsavoury, but suffice it to say that Madame Dupont...seemed to expect more than professionalism from me. She was rather insistent and then became angry and stormed out when I declined her proposition and flirtations. I'll speak to Claire about it on Monday, and I intend to request that should Madame Dupont return, Claire accompany her to my office so I've a reliable witness in case she attempts anything further," he sighed, shaking his head. He started to walk with her towards his house, blinking when she asked if he was free tomorrow. "Well, yes, of course. The firm is closed on Saturdays," he said. "Why? Did you have something in mind?"

Spencer blinked, raising an eyebrow when she said she'd only met him less than a week ago. "You only just met your dad? Uhh, how'd you manage that?" he asked, clearly confused. When she apologized again for sneaking up on him, he smiled. "It's fine, I guess. And yeah, I'm from here. I guess you're not? Since you just moved here and all..."

Isla nodded and walked out. She didn't say anything and went into the shelves and finding something to do. She didn't want to talk to Rhyan. She didn't want to talk to anyone unless they were a customer. If she had to hide from them the whole damn day she would. It was annoying that she was going to be blamed for shit she didn't do, but what the fuck you expect from an elf?

Sullivan talked to the girl a bit more before walking her back to her work/home before going to find that chocolate store and buying her a box of chocolate then he went into the store she was talking about and buying the bracelet before going home. The next morning when he assumed she would be out doing her first job he had an errand boy bring the box of chocolate and a small blue box to the cafe she worked. Then he himself went off to look for a building that would suit the thrift store.

Vlora listened to the handsome man talk and as they walk she was beginning to like the way he held himself. He had class and he was respectful, dense, but respectful. The lady seemed like a crazy one and she would see if she could find anything out about her when she went to work. When Bastian said he was free and asked why she smiled, "Well my niece would love to meet you. I think it would be nice since her meeting my brother's friend and her family went a bit weird. I may have snapped, but the way he was acting with her and her kid was kind of making Hazel feel weird. Of course, the poor girl wouldn't dare say anything and me being one who doesn't quite give a shit, pardon my French," She smirked, "I snapped on them. Plus her smug little face when my brother tried to tell me not to curse... well my old ways seemed to have wanted to come up and I didn't really want to punch a dwarf in her own home and in front of her kid. So I left and Hazel wanted to go home, but her father was being an asshole and made her stay. Now he and Hazel had a thing Saturday around or after two... don't know if that is still on but she wanted to meet you before that time so..." She smiled.

Hazel nodded, "Yeah...I uhm... I never knew him. My mother kept me a secret and didn't want him knowing I was ever a thing, which may have been for the best." She laughed a bit nervously. "She passed away about a month and a half ago... so I am here with him and my bestest Auntie V." She said. When he said he lived there and then said he guessed she wasn't she laughed. "Yeah I am pretty sure I am not from here." She said and looked around. "Is there anything fun to do for a kid like me?" She asked and smiled, rolling a rock under her shoe.

Rhyanid looked up when Isla came out, seeing that she was silent and she looked rather sullen to him. He frowned a bit, standing up and going over to her. "Hey, what'd she say?" he asked. He hoped she hadn't gotten in trouble. He didn't think she'd been the one to open the cage doors, and she was a good worker, so the last thing he wanted was for her to get in a disagreement with his mother over which of them was responsible for opening the cage doors. It had to have been one of them, of course, but he didn't think either of them would do it, which made the matter confusing.

Heidi got her mail route done, noticing at Garmold Glitters that the pretty pearl bracelet she'd been eyeing up was gone. She was a bit disappointed, but she knew she likely wouldn't have ever ended up buying it anyways, so she hoped whoever bought it would cherish and appreciate it. She finished up and then headed for the coffee shop to get changed and enjoy what little downtime she had before work. When she got there, Chloe had a smug look on her face. "Delivery for you," she said, and Heidi blinked. "What?" she asked, and Chloe gestured towards where the box of chocolates and the bracelet box sat behind the counter. Heidi's eyes widened, knowing before she even opened it what it was going to be.

She grabbed the boxes and started for the stairs, and Chloe blinked. "You're not gonna open it here?" she asked, and Heidi shook her head. "Nope," she said, smirking a bit before heading upstairs and into her apartment. She sat down and opened the box, gasping a little when she saw the bracelet. Had he seriously gone out and bought this for her? She couldn't believe it. Could she even bring herself to accept such a gift? After he'd sent her the flowers she'd felt indebted enough to agree to a walk with him. If she put the bracelet on and Sullivan asked her to go out for dinner with him or something like that, she wouldn't really have much choice but to say yes. She weighed her options for a minute before popping one of the chocolates in her mouth, putting the bracelet on her wrist, and getting dressed for work. She headed downstairs to get something to eat before she started, grabbing herself a sandwich and a tea and going to sit down.

Spencer frowned a bit when Hazel said that she'd never known her father. "Well, that's...weird," he said. "I can't imagine not knowing my dad. I mean, he's kind of tough sometimes, but he's still my dad and I love him," he said, shrugging a bit. "I'm sorry about your mom. That must have been hard," he said. When she asked what there was for a kid to do, he shrugged. "Honestly, there's not a lot. I mostly draw. It's fun to play tag or hide and seek by the lake, especially if you play with other kids, but you've gotta be careful because it's not always the safest place to be. Sometimes my brothers take me swimming when it's hot out. We've got a clubhouse in our backyard, but my dad's talking about tearing it down since he thinks we're outgrowing it. And, uh...well, I mean, that's pretty much it," he shrugged.

Isla didn't even look at him, "You have work to do, Rhyan. You were already an hour late and then you took more time to nurse your hangover. Maybe you should go do that than to put your nose in someone else's business." She said and grabbed some stuff that wasn't supposed to be there and headed for a different aisle.

Sullivan had a day and a half with the real estate woman, but he managed to get a nice store for the thrift shop and he couldn't have been happier. He went to the store and got some work done before looking at the time. He wondered how she was liking the gifts, or if she was upset that he had bought them for her in the first place. He decided to stop by for lunch. "Hello." He smiled and ordered a sweet tea before taking a seat by the window.

Hazel shrugged, "I mean... I guess if you are used to being with two parents." She smiled softly. "Thanks... she was a good mom." She said softly before listening about what there was to do around the place. "Huh... I see dragons fly about from my room... those are pretty cool. Do you ever go over there?" She asked.

Rhyanid raised an eyebrow at Isla's reaction. His mother must have gotten mad at her. He sighed. "Look, Isla, if it's any consolation, I believe you. I dunno how my mom managed to forget to lock up the cages, but she isn't usually the one to feed the animals in the morning so I'm guessing it has something to do with that. I'll leave you alone, though," he said before heading into the office to talk to his mother.

Heidi looked up when Sullivan entered, giving him a polite smile when he said hello. She figured he would come sit with her, but instead he went to sit by the windows. She blinked, a little surprised. She took another sip of her tea, debating whether or not she should go talk to him. She decided that she should, since she needed to know what the deal was with the gifts, so she stood up and took her plate and cup with her, going and sitting down across from Sullivan. "You bought me the bracelet," she said in a very matter-of-fact tone, smoothing out the skirt of her dress after she sat down before taking another sip of her tea.

Bastian smiled when Vlora said that her niece wanted to meet him. He listened attentively while she talked about what had happened with her brother and his friends, nodding a bit as they walked along. "I see," he said. "I would love to meet your niece. She sounds like a delightful child," he told her. "Might I ask what it was about his interactions with this friend and her child that made your niece feel weird? It's not his child, is it? Nor his girlfriend? So I can see no reason why she might feel replaced, but that is the only reasoning I can think of. Of course, the mind of a child is a tricky one and I cannot pretend to understand it," he said with a chuckle, genuinely curious to understand more about her family matters.

Spencer wasn't entirely convinced when Hazel said that her mom was a good one, not entirely sure what kind of mother would keep her kid from her dad - unless he was a bad person, but Hazel's dad didn't seem like a bad person. Still, though, he nodded a bit. When she asked about the dragons, he shrugged. "My sister likes to go play with the little dragons sometimes, but I don't really go. They're a bit scary. Oh, but I really like to draw them! Sometimes I go with her when she goes to play with them and I draw the dragons. From a distance," he said, grinning.

Isla didn't say anything when he talked to her, she didn't care about who he believed. The man was a momma's boy to begin with and he didn't know her from Adam. It was obviously a lie. She had been walking around to one aisle when she started to hear things falling from the aisles down by the lizards. She blinked and went to walk over slowly, "Hello?" She asked softly, thinking someone was doing it, but when she got there no one was there. She had started to back up when something from the top shelf had dropped and Isla ran. "Hey, something is on the top shelf and it is pushing things down." She said before mentally sighing when she saw her boss.

Sullivan smiled when she walked over and sat. It was nice to have her come to him for a change. "Ahh, yeah... I was around the area and I thought why not? I hope I got the right one, it looks lovely on you though." He smiled and looked out the window for a second before looking back at her. "Are you displeased with the gifts?" He asked softly.

Vlora smiled when he said he would love to meet Hazel. "Well, he was holding the child and just kind of being... fatherly. Then with the girl he was being flirtatious. Booping her nose and such. Plus you would have to be vibe blind to not feel and see what was going on with the two. I don't really know exactly what she was thinking but I know she didn't want to impose on him and his life, plus she just lost her mother, whom he cried for when he found out... it is a lot for a thirteen-year-old to take all at once. Even if she is super smart and bright." She said softly.

Hazel looked at the boy, he seemed like a scardy cat, which was sad because he had been the one kid her age that she had seen so far and he probably wouldn't like to explore. "Ah..." She said. "Well maybe I will go exploring those by myself later." She said and looked over towards the lake. "Do you live here on the lake island or in the city?" She asked.

Rhyanid was standing in front of the desk and Lanissa was sitting behind it. It was clear that they'd been arguing, especially given the way both of them silenced the second the door opened. Lanissa raised an eyebrow at hearing Isla's words, exchanging a concerned look with Rhyanid before she stood up. "Show me," she said, clearly concerned. Rhyanid nodded, not saying anything since Isla was obviously already pissed off.

Heidi blinked when he said he'd been in the area, her face going a bit red when he said that the bracelet looked lovely on her. "Um, well, yes, this is the exact one," she said with a nod. When he asked if she was displeased with the gifts, she gave a small shrug. "I mean... I don't know. I'm grateful, and I appreciate them, but you really don't need to, and I'm not entirely certain why you're giving me gifts or what your motivation is. Surely you can't just be giving me these lovely gifts out of the goodness of your heart without expecting anything in return, right...?" she asked softly, shifting a little uncomfortably in her seat.

Bastian blinked when Vlora explained that her brother had been fatherly towards the child and flirtatious towards the mother. He nodded a bit as she finished explaining. "I see. I suppose that would be rather overwhelming for a child, yes. I do, however, have to question how your niece might have felt had she arrived here and found her father married with new children? Or if he and this dwarf woman were together and he'd become the stepfather to her child? If he cried when he learned of her mother's death and has neither remarried nor had more children in the thirteen years since your niece was born, it seems to me as though he's been mourning the loss of that relationship for a long time, and finding a father who's been missing her mother for years and is only now beginning to find happiness again is perhaps better for her than finding a father who'd long since moved on from her mother and had new children of his own. That is just my take on it, though, and I could be quite wrong," he said.

Spencer smiled when she said she would go exploring the dragon farm by herself later. "Maybe you could go with my sister some time. She's real nice," he suggested. When she asked if he lived by the lake or in the city, he glanced out at the lake. "I wish I lived on the lake island but we live in the city. I spend a lot of time out here, though," he told her. He paused, glancing down at his sketchpad and then back at her. "Did...you maybe want to look at any more of my drawings?" he asked a bit hesitantly. He didn't usually show his drawings to people, aside from his family, but she seemed nice and had genuinely seemed impressed with his work, so maybe he could show her some finished drawings and see what she thought.

Isla tried hard not to sigh and just walked out. She really rather not have HER come and look and more so Rhyan, but he was the boss. As she walked to show her where the mess was something fell and nearly fell on her. Isla sighed and looked over at her. She raised a hand before walking off to go pick up what fell on the floor.

Sullivan had been smiling but by the end of it he had lost it. "I got you these gifts because I saw fit that you should have them. I have way more money than I know what to do. So I like to splurge on others. You are trying to save your money for something adventurous but you also wanted the bracelet that would have cost you a paycheck and a half. Now you can use that money to put in saving. I don't want anything from you, Miss Heidi... well... unless it is a smile, but that seems harmless and not so costly." He said softly.

Vlora thought about it as he talked, "I think it would have been less difficult if she hadn't seen him mourning the way he did. If he had moved on and had kids or became this boy's stepfather... I think she may have felt a bit less inclined to not step on toes since he already had her and the child. But honestly, I think it was more so the fact that she gave me that stupid ass smirk, meaning he would choose her over family, or the fact that he didn't even give her the time to process shit that she is feeling this way. She lost the only parent she knew, you more than anyone knows how that feels to lose your parents, just think of them as a whole. Plus her mother was murdered in front of her. Died right in front of her eyes. She is still... processing everything. He says that they aren't together, that is what HE has told us, but then acts like this. I know you are an only child, which isn't anyone's fault... gives you this nice innocence about you." She laughed softly. "I just think he handled it in a very wrong kind of way and it has probably put a wedge between them for now. Maybe once things settle... then she has ONLY me to really hang out with... besides you and you are too old too." She giggled. "I really want her to find a kid or some kids her age and just hang with them. I want her to rebel. I want her to say fuck no when she has the choice. I hated seeing her feel so uncomfortable in that stupid home. I would have knocked my brother out if there wasn't a damn kid besides Hazel in the room. It really broke my heart, Bastian." She said softly.

Hazel smiled, "Sure! That sounds like fun... I like nice people." She giggled. She followed his eyes to his sketchbook and when he asked if she wanted to look at more of his drawing she nodded. "Yes, please. If that is okay with you, that is. When you become famous I am going to hang your stuff in my house and when people ask who made them I will say your name and then mention how I knew you when I was thirteen." She smiled.

Lanissa and Rhyanid followed Isla out just in time to see something nearly fall on her when they reached the shelving unit in question. They exchanged a concerned look while Isla was picking up whatever it was. "Rhyan, could you ta-" Lanissa started, but before she could finish, Rhyanid noticed one of the huge bags of dog food starting to tilt forward on the top shelf. They kept those bags up there because it was easier for Rhyanid to reach up and get them for customers than it was for the customers to stoop down to heave them up off the top shelf. It was right near Isla, and she didn't seem to have noticed since she was picking up what had fallen. Rhyanid immediately darted forward, getting there just in time to catch the huge, heavy bag of feed before it landed on Isla. Lanissa's eyes went wide as she watched what unfolded before her.

Heidi nodded a bit as Sullivan explained why he bought her the gifts. That did make sense. He'd seemed kind and generous, after all, so why wouldn't he go and spend a bit of money on treating a friendly waitress to something nice. "Well...okay," she said softly, giving him a small smile. "I believe you. It just struck me as odd, is all. I mean...nothing in this world is ever really free, so the gifts just seemed strange to me. If all you want in return is a smile, though, then I'll give you all the smiles you want," she told him with a giggle. "And if there's anything more I can do for you than just a smile, feel free to let me know," she added.

Bastian listened, nodding a bit. When she commented that it broke her heart, he stopped walking and turned towards her, gently taking her hand with his free one. "That's hardly fair to you, then. You're obviously close to your niece and you obviously care for her a great deal, so you should talk to your brother about how this makes you both feel. He'll never know if one of you doesn't say anything. The only part I question is that perhaps a bit much was read into this smirk - a facial reaction can mean many things and could have easily been involuntary," he said.

Spencer nodded when she said that she liked nice people. "Well, my sister's real nice. I mean, we fight sometimes, but that's just how it is with brothers and sisters," he laughed. He blinked at her next words. "Oh, I doubt I'll ever be famous," he laughed before opening up the book, turning it to a drawing and looking towards her t see how she'd react.

Isla hadn't noticed the large back of feed tilting over and nearly jumped when Rhyan lunged towards her. "What in the h-" She asked before she looked up. "What in the hell indeed... thanks..." She said and moved away from the shelves. Isla looked up in time to see things on the other side of the aisle fall and crash to the ground before it stopped. She didn't see anything, but then she heard the creak of the door on the birdcage open and the red bird flew out. "Now do you still think it was me who opened all those cages?" She asked her boss before going to get Soup. She knew the damn cat would try and get the red bird for a snack.

Sullivan nodded, "That is true... nothing is really free and I guess the gifts weren't, because I much enjoy seeing you smile. I am guilty of that, but that is all I ask for when it comes to today's gifts. I knew you really like the bracelet and I know you are saving and it saddened my heart to think you were going to save up for it and someone else got it before you. Plus, like I said before, it suits you." He said. "I know you said you have moved here a year ago, but I am sure you know the weather pattern's by now... does it rain a lot? If so maybe I should always carry an umbrella." He chuckled.

Vlora had kept walking until her hand was grabbed and she looked up at him, "Maybe I was. I have thought about it and I know I need to apologize for my behavior, Bastian. It is just a matter of when. I know my brother knows he has messed up and I know he is trying to figure out how to sew that tear up. He will figure it out and I will talk to him, but the two of these grown people need to learn some boundaries... at least for right now. Hazel hasn't even really settled in. If he can't wait for her to do so then maybe my foot needs to be up his ass, again excuse my French." She said before giving his hand a gentle squeeze and smiling a bit. "Thanks for listening to my stupid rant. That means a lot." She said softly and leaned over to gently kiss his cheek.

Hazel giggled, "I guess so... I am the only child, but I had friends back home who had brothers and sisters and they would say the same thing." She said before looking down at him, then at the drawing, he showed her. Hazel's eyes took it all in, smiling bigger now. "You really are good, Spence. The boat and its reflection are done so well." She said and looked at him. "You really do have the hand." She giggled. "My mom was friends with an artist from where I am. He was so talented. I find it nice to watch artist draw. They are so into their work that the outside world is nothing but void. Their facial expressions are interesting too. Sometimes they squint or look so... not angry but... sullen." She smiled. "How often do you draw?" She asked.

Lanissa's eyes widened when the birdcage opened and the red bird was suddenly loose. She hurried to the front door of the shop and locked it, worried that a customer would come in and the opening of the door would allow the bird to escape. Rhyanid hurried to close the bird cage door, meanwhile, not wanting any more of the birds to escape. It was bad enough that the nippy red one had gotten out. "What the hell is happening?" he asked, and Lanissa shook her head. "I have no idea," she said, going to gather up some of the fallen merchandise and putting it back where it had fallen from. "Rhyan, can you get the bird?" she asked, and he nodded, beginning to carefully follow it and holding his hand out. Soup, meanwhile, was also watching it intently, and he whined a little when Isla grabbed him.

Heidi smiled at him. She still felt like she owed him, but it was nice to know that he didn't seem to want anything in return for the gifts. "To be honest, I noticed this morning that the bracelet was gone. I was really disappointed," she told him softly. When he asked about the weather, she smiled a bit. "It actually doesn't rain that much. Yesterday was unusual. I figure it's probably got something to do with being up in the sky, but who can say for sure?" she laughed.

Bastian smiled when Vlora agreed with his assessment, nodding a bit when she said she would talk to him. "Yes, it does sound like some boundaries should be set by the two adults. Oh, and on the same note, I'll be certain to watch myself with you when I meet her, as I'd not like to do anything that may make the girl uncomfortable," he told her. When she squeezed his hand, thanked him, and kissed his cheek, he smiled a bit. "I believe that's what friends are for, ma belle. It was hardly a stupid rant. You had valid concerns and a family matter that had to be discussed, and you brought them before an impartial third party for perspective and sympathy. I feel that I have adequately provided both, and now you know what steps to take next in resolving the matter. Now, let us continue on our way," he chuckled. He didn't let go of her hand before he started to walk again.

Spencer smiled when she said she was an only child. "I've got three siblings, so that's a huge difference," he laughed. He waited while she looked at the drawing, grinning when she complimented it. "Thanks! Oh, here's one you might like. My sister said I should draw it...it was her idea, not mine," he said, turning the page to another drawing and again watching her face to see what she would think.

Isla made her way over to the office and placed Soup on the desk. "Yes, I know you wanted a snack but I promise to give you a treat when all this is over with." She said to the cat and hurried out, running smack dab into the elven man. "Gosh dang trees." She sighed and stood out of the way. She blinked and began to whistle, the red burn flew over to her and landed on her shoulder before screeching at Rhyan. "Oh.. okay... it worked." She said before gently petting it and putting him back in the cage. "Now... where is this ghost?" She asked. The fairy smirked, invisible but unaware at the stares from the lizards.

Sullivan nodded, "I am glad that I picked it up for you when I had. You are much too pretty to look so sad. It should be a crime." He said before listening to her talk about the weather. "I see... I am going to have a talk to these sky gods and ask them kindly not to rain on our next walk... whenever you feel like you need to walk with company." He said before sipping his coffee.

Vlora nodded, "Actually you watching yourself helps ME. The girl teases me about you every chance she gets. I don't need you to fuel her imagination any more than you and I have." She laughed a bit. He continued to talk before walking again and she smiled. "Is courtroom talk all you know, Sir Bastian?" She teased. The man was something and she felt so out of place yet in place when she was with him.

Hazel blinked, "Oh three?! That sounds like fun. I sometimes wished I had siblings when growing up, but that's okay. I got to spend time with my mother and it was nice while it lasted." She said before looking at the next drawing and her mouth dropped. "Oh, Spence, this is my fav so far. Look at how stunning her tail is. Not to mention her hair... you really really REALLY are talented. Is this what you want to do when you grow up because you are going to so famous." She laughed softly.

Rhyanid blinked when Isla ran into him, looking down at her. "Sorry," he said. He waited while she whistled, sighing with relief when the bird came to her. When she asked where the ghost was, he shook his head. "I don't know. I didn't even think ghosts were real, but I guess they are," he sighed. Lanissa shook her head. "We've got to figure this out. We're going to have merchandise damaged, the animals could get hurt... this is the last thing we need," she said.

Heidi went a bit red in the face when Sullivan called her pretty, smiling a bit. "Well, thank you. It really is a lovely gift," she said, glancing down at the bracelet and then back up at him. When he suggested making sure it wouldn't rain on their next walk, she smiled a bit. "I...wouldn't be opposed to another walk with you," she said. "I can't today, though. I have to work shortly," she added, taking another sip of her tea before glancing at the clock.

Bastian blinked when Vlora said that the girl teased her about him. "She does, does she?" he asked. "I can see nothing to tease you about, at least not with regards to me," he said. When she asked if courtroom talk was all he knew, he raised an eyebrow slightly. "Well, no, but in such a context as this, it seemed appropriate. Je peux te parler en français, si ce serait préférable*," he said with a slight smirk.
*I could speak to you in French, if that would be preferable.

Spencer smiled a little, looking at her. "Well, maybe you can share my siblings," he joked. When she died over the mermaid drawing, he laughed a little. "Thanks. I don't really draw a lot of people, and when I do I usually have references to go by, but I was kind of happy with how this one turned out. My sister really liked it. I'm gonna get my parents to frame it for her as a birthday present from me," he said. "Yeah, this is definitely what I wanna do when I grow up."

Isla looked around, "Well I have no idea how to catch a ghost. I can't even see on top the shelves." She said and then looked around. She saw a glimmer of something by the lizard cage and she poked Rhyan and pointed towards where she had seen it. She had never seen something like that before.

Sullivan liked making this girl blush. It was rather fitting and it boosted his ego up some. "Ahh no, of course not. Not today for me either it seems. I just stopped by for a quick lunch and to see how you were fairing with your gifts. I have bought a place for the thrift store and mapped it out. Now I need to order things and get some thrift goods from down below." He smiled a bit and looked own at his coffee before looking back towards where he had put his order for food. He wondered what kind of tip he should put in today before looking back at her.

Vlora smirked, "Ahh I don't know if you went to an all-boys school or you just never paid attention to the girls, but they can find the smallest of things and run with it. It is all fun and banter, nothing to get worked up over. Plus it isn't insulting, it is rather cute." She said before biting her lip and looking away when he spoke French and then looked back at him. "If I say yes, how much trouble will I get in?" She asked and laughed softly.

Hazel listened to him and smiled, "That is very sweet of you. I am sure she is going to love it. It is a lovely piece." She said and then giggled. "Good, because I would like to one day have your work in my house... wherever that may be." She said softly and pushed a piece of hair behind her ear. "Have you been down in the kingdom before?" She asked.

Despite the situation, Lanissa couldn't help but to laugh when Isla commented that she couldn't see on the top shelves. "No, dear, I suppose you couldn't. Rhyan, do you think Zel could have anything to do with this?" she asked, but Rhyanid shook his head. "Nope. Zel wouldn't let anyone get hurt, and that bag almost fell on Isla, and she knows there are puppies and kittens we have to keep separated," he said. When Isla poked him and pointed, he followed her finger and raised an eyebrow. "What the hell?" he asked, moving towards it and looking up on the top shelf where the brief glimmer had been.

Heidi smiled when Sullivan told her that he'd bought a place for the thrift store. "Really?" she asked, clearly excited about this. "Well...maybe our next walk will have to be you showing me this place. I'd love to see it," she told him. She quickly finished up the last of her tea and glanced again at the clock, sighing a bit. "I should get started now. Thank you again for the gifts, Mr. Goldenbaun. If you decide you'd like another walk, you know where to find me," she said before standing up, taking her dishes and heading over to the counter. She put them in the sink, jotted something down in a notebook, and then grabbed an apron off one of the hooks.

Bastian blinked when she questioned him about going to an all-boys school. "Ah, no. My parents did consider it, but they felt the quality of education at the mixed private school was better than at the all-boys one. I'm glad they did, because I've found that the men I've met who attended the all-boys school seem to have a more difficult time accepting the rhetoric that women are people in the exact sense that men are. It's strange, but it makes me grateful to have been educated alongside young women so I had the opportunity to view them on an equal platform to myself," he said. He nodded when she said that it wasn't anything insulting. "That's fair, then," he said, and smiled a bit at her question. "Well, I do appreciate knowing that you've the mind to perceive tone well enough to recognize a question when you hear one, even in another language. I think you'll be in no trouble at all," he said. They reached his house and he headed up to the door, unlocking it and holding it open for her.

Spencer smiled when she said that his sister would love the picture. "I hope so! I mean, it was her idea," he said. When she said she wanted to have his work in her house, he smiled. "Well, I'll have to make sure to remember you when I'm a famous artist," he joked. He nodded when she asked if he'd been down in the kingdom before. "Yeah, we go down sometimes for stuff. Why, have you?" he asked.

The fairy hadn't noticed that it was spotted til Rhyan had gotten closer to it. It smacked his forehead a bit on the hard side and flew away towards the door. Isla had to hold a hand above her mouth to keep from laughing at the tiny slapping sound. The fairy played with the bells on the door and Isla looked. "Should I... open it?" She asked.

Vlora listened and nodded, "Well I am glad you aren't the type of man who thinks that way about women. I would be deeply saddened if I had to beat up my new friend." She smirked. When they got to his house she thanked him and walked into the home. She stepped out of his when she did and looked around. It was a very Bastian home, but she always loved seeing inside of it.

Hazel laughed, "Oh boy... I sure hope you do." She said before nodding a bit. "Well I have been to a small part. I am actually from a different kingdom across the sea." She said softly and smiled. "It was a long trip by sea and for a bit I was sick, luckily I got used to it." She smiled.
