Visual Kei: GEMINI

Visual Kei: GEMINI

0 INK

An up-and-coming visual kei band struggles to compete with its more experienced rivals in a world of costumes, make-up, and beautiful music.

1,082 readers have visited Visual Kei: GEMINI since Everscale created it.

Introduction

This roleplay will mostly be about the bond and relationships between the members. However, if anyone is musically or lyrically talented, we could always work together and actually write songs for it. I know I'm good with song lyrics.

“And it sank below the surface,
Left behind an unguarded soul.”

Ominous words to signify the start of a brand new life… but it worked. GEMINI’s haunting lyrics, powerful music, and charismatic members took the public by storm. Across the world, lovers of visual kei took up the cry, bearing GEMINI on their shoulders into the world of fame.

It started off as just some silly high-school dream. A boy who wanted to be a man, a nobody who wanted to be a somebody. He gathered others like him. They practiced, they played, they bonded. And soon enough, GEMINI was born. They have reached their goal. Across the world their names are known, or at least their stage names. The fans scream as they dance and sing upon the stage. Applause is deafening whenever their concerts end. They are wealthy now, and young, and their creativity is running strong.

But the struggles don’t end when you’re famous. You simply find new ones.

Romance, identity, competition. Drama plagues then band, from within and from without. Will they be able to survive, or will their flame burn too brightly, and live only a short while?

We shall have to see.

It was early. Far too early to be up, Touma thought. Four o’clock in the morning, almost two hours before the sun would actually rise. He had no idea what had roused him, and he would probably never know. All he knew was that he was awake and entirely alone in this little apartment.

That wasn’t exactly true. He wasn’t alone; it only seemed that way because his brothers in GEMINI were all still fast asleep. He could have tried to wake them, and most of them would probably have been fine with that. They would have had a grand time, partying early in the morning, probably drinking. After all, they didn’t have anything to do the next day. It was on these rare days off that the band tended to have the most fun. He could start that earlier, if he wanted to. But it seemed cruel to disturb his brethren when they had all gotten in so late the night before. The concert had been a great success, as their concerts now tended to be, but it had ended late, and the backstage interviews afterwards had dragged on for hours. Touma had only been home for five hours, asleep for three, when he woke into the pre-dawn world. He was tired. He knew the others must be exhausted, as well. So he let them sleep.

He wandered silently into the kitchen, dressed in nothing but the ratty, torn-to-bits, graying t-shirt and baggy black sweats he had managed to pull on before crashing the night before. He was starting to think that having a celebration after the concert had been a bad idea, especially if his insomnia was going to start kicking in. He’d been so tired after GEMINI’s crazy festivities that he’d barely had time to pull off his wig and wipe the make-up from his face before his head hit the pillow.

Touma worked quickly, putting together a mug of coffee for himself. He left the pot on, keeping the rest of it hot. It wouldn’t do to waste it.

He leaned up against the dining room table, sipping at the dark drink and thinking about the numbers they had done the previous night. They’d been good, overall. The fans had certainly loved it… though he suspected most of the screaming may have come from the fanservice. The fangirls loved the fanservice…

He sighed quietly, shaking his head. He still found it nearly impossible to believe how far they had really come.

Naoki was fast asleep, curled up with one hand on his stuffed panda and the other near his face. He'd been so exhausted after the show, it was a wonder he'd managed to make it to the bed at all. It wouldn't have been the first time one of the other members would have had to pick him up off the floor and move him to somewhere no one would trip over him. His dreams were pleasant, as they usually were after a successful concert, and he was at peace.

When Touma left the room, Naoki awoke, but didn't move. It was a reflex for him to wake up when he was alone, memories of when he was little and had been too busy sleeping to say goodbye to his mother still fresh in his mind. In the beginning of GEMINI, it had been worse, as he would have immediately rushed out to make sure someone was there. Since then however, he'd gotten better. Though he was awake, he remained in the comfort of a bed, listening carefully to hear the few sounds Touma made and being comforted by them. He knew that somewhere, the other members were sleeping too. After last night, they all had definitely earned it.

He laid there for maybe another half hour. It wasn't like him at all to get up so early, and he had no enjoyment in it. But for one reason or another, he couldn't go back to sleep. So, sighing, the teenager finally rolled out of bed, patting his panda on the head before exiting the room.

As per usual, the shirt he was wearing engulfed him in fabric, making him look even tinier than he already was. His pants were huge on him too, held up only because he'd pulled the strings as tight as they could possibly go. He wasn't even sure they were his pants, they might have been Touma's or Enji's. He'd picked them up off the floor when they'd come in, which is what he usually did.

When Naoki spotted Touma, he smiled sleepily at him. The younger boy's hair was sticking up all over the place, a product of leftover hairspray, but he didn't notice. "Morning," he greeted quietly. "Why're you up so early?" he asked, yawning. Based on the boy's glazed over expression, it was obvious he wasn't fully awake yet.

Touma glanced around as another member of the band walked in, identifiable only by the very soft rustling of clothes much too big for them. He knew before he looked that it must be Naoki. The boy was always wearing clothes that were too big for him, whether that was because he liked loose clothes, or because he had simply picked someone else’s pants off the floor.

He couldn’t help but smile, and very nearly laugh, at the ruffled condition of Naoki’s hair. It was all too clear to him that Naoki hadn’t gotten to wash his hair, either. Party, then crash. That was the way their lives ran. As it was, Touma was surprised that Naoki had gotten up with him. Sure, the boy was sensitive, but he still looked so totally exhausted…

"Morning," he greeted quietly. "Why're you up so early?" he asked, yawning.

Touma shrugged slightly, sipping at his coffee.
“Couldn’t sleep,” he answered calmly. “Sorry if I scared you, Naoki-kun. I didn’t want to wake you up.”

He glanced behind him at the coffee-pot.
"You want some? I made plenty but I don't think the others are going to get up in time for it..."

It was true. There hadn't been the slightest signof movement so far from any of the others. Not that Touma would have heard them from the kitchen...

"No, I heard you in here. I wasn't scared," Naoki replied quietly, shuffling over to the coffee pot. He didn't even really like coffee, but he drank it because it's what pretty much everyone else did. "Thanks," he muttered as he reached up into the cupboard to grab a mug, before pouring it and adding plenty of sugar.

"I wonder if the reason I'm so short is because all this coffee has stunted my growth," he muttered, recalling all their late nights rehearsing, especially early on, before taking a sip. He winced, as it was too hot. Naoki had always been teased for having a cat's tongue. Ignoring his smarting mouth, he took another sip before sighing. It was quiet, almost too quiet for his liking. Not that he minded a little piece every now and then, but mornings like this took any energy he might have had and drained it all right out.

“O'course no one else's up yet. S'early! What’re we doin’ today?” he asked, slurring as his words together as he was too sleepy to bother with coherency. Part of him, well, actually most of him, wanted to go back to bed, but he knew Touma was up for now, and he didn’t want to have to ask him to come back to bed with him.

Touma couldn't help a small laugh at Naoki's words. The boy was exhausted, he could hear it in the slurring words. He probably shouldn't have gotten up. He knew that Naoki wouldn't want to ask him to go back to bed.

He would go, anyways, in a few minutes. Naturally he wouldn't sleep; the caffeine would wake him up. But his desk was in his room and his fanmail was seriously piling up. He needed to start writing replies now, while he had the time. Their next gig wasn't for a week, and they all knew their parts. As long as they rehearsed enough to keep it all fresh, they could do as they wished.

"We don't have much planned," Touma answered calmly. "We've got an interview at six, but that's a long ways away. Probably the others will sleep until noon and we'll laze around all day. It's not like any of us have the energy for much else."

That was certainly true. Even with the coffee coursing through his system, Touma felt akin to a slug. He simply did not want to move. Perhaps all that dancing he had done the night before, both during the concert and at the party afterward. Oh well. It didn't matter all that much. He had enjoyed himself, and he was strong enough and young enough and kept himself well enough in shape that he wasn't sure. Just very, very tired.

"Anything you want to do?" he asked Naoki. It was his modus operandi. He always checked in with the boy, made sure he got what he want. Touma looked at Naoki as a little brother, perhaps even some sort of son. It was always his first priority to take care of the cheerful, delicate creature.

Naoki nodded, the coffee finally starting to do its thing as his eyes became more alert. He wrapped his fingers tighter around the mug, feeling the warmth of it in his hand and enjoying it. He hated the cold.

When Touma asked him, as he always did, what he wanted, Naoki smiled softly. There were lots of things he liked about Touma, but that was probably one of his favorites. It was in little actions like that that showed he cared. At one point in their friendship, Naoki used to answer that question with stupid, outlandish, or time consuming things, just waiting for the request that would finally make his friends leave him, just as everyone else had. But Touma never did. And nowadays, being taken care of like that, just the simple thought of asking, was all he needed. It brightened up his entire day, and the fact that the older man did it almost automatically at this point made him even happier.

"You're wonderful Touma-kun," Naoki said as way of a reply. "I'm fine doing whatever you guys want." He included the other band members in this of course, because despite not being as close to all of them as he was Touma, they were the closest people he had in the world. Reaching up suddenly to feel his head, Naoki frowned and stated, "My hair feels sticky, so I'm gonna go take a shower before someone else steals it." He walked over and put his mug in the sink, then headed out of the room to jump in the shower. As he didn't style his hair himself or anything, it took him significantly less time than most of the band members. What probably took him the longest was finding casual clothes he could actually wear in public, and most of his clothes weren't suitable to ever leave the place they were staying, be it the apartment or a tour bus. Not because he didn't have the money obviously, he just preferred it that way.

Touma chuckled quietly, raising his hand to run it through his own waving golden hair. He could barely remember what it felt like not to have long, tawny ringlets. He was naturally dark-haired, of course, being Japanese, but that didn't matter. He hadn't ever liked his hair the way it was when he was born, and he had never intended to keep it that way. To say that he had intended to become a blonde heart-breaker, however, would be completely inaccurate. He had simply intended to some day dye it brown. He nodded to Naoki, smiling gently.

"I'm glad you think so," he murmured. "We'll figure out something to do when they wake up. You get that gunk washed out of your hair."

He watched Naoki leave, eyes smiling even if his face did not. He was in the habit of maintaining a calm appearance, any flicker of emotion kept small and discreet, secretive. That was his image, as Touma. Always level-headed, confident, (perhaps overly so), and a strong leader. He was a dramatic performer, of course, and not easily embarrassed. Not ever embarrassed. But he was not flamboyant, either. Perhaps that was why whenever he showed a true smile to the world, the fangirls started screaming...?

Touma sipped silently at his coffee, staring straight at the wall in front of him, until a soft footstep alerted him to the presence of another. He glanced around, smiling at the sight of the young woman... man... who approached him. Though he spent almost all his time with Hime, Touma still could not get used to how feminine Hime really was. People thought that Touma was feminine, but Hime simply took it to the next level. If you didn't know him, there was absolutely no way to tell that Hime was male. An image that he reinforced by his choice of image within the band. There were not many visual kei boys who would deign to wear a dress in a show, let alone choose to. And Hime pulled it off gloriously. Much of the time, new fans did not realize for months that Hime wasn't really a woman.

"Morning," Touma murmured, lips twitching in the faintest of smiles. Hime glanced at him; a disdainful and rather irritable look; but made no move to reply. He just kept walking, moving over to the fridge and pulling out a bottle of milk. "Oh, dear," Touma sighed. "Did we wake you up, Hime-chan?"

Hime raised one slim eyebrow coldly and sipped at the milk, refusing to speak.
