Introduction
Regardless of status, the generous overseers of Vyricia provide every citizen with training in one of the arts:
Bladesmanship: The art of the blade, adequately named. This teaches how to effectively wield all types of melee weapons, such as swords, spears, maces, etc. People who major in this field are known formally as Bladesmen or Bladeswomen. Informally, they are known as Hunters or Huntresses. This area of study can be narrowed to the study of sword and shield combat; two handed weapon combat; hand to hand combat; and exotic weapons. Exotic weapons is a generic designation for any weapon that does not fall into any of the traditional categories.
Skill Arts: The art of stealth and survival. This art teaches one how to wield a bow, and light weapons like daggers, claw gauntlets and throwing knives. People who major in this art are formally known as Sappers. Informally, they are known as Archers, for the prominent focus on archery. This area of study can be narrowed into archery; snare and trap laying; stealth and assassination; and survival. Survival covers the study of plants and animals on top of strategies for staying alive in the wilderness.
Spirit arts: The spirit arts focus on any given person's ability to harness the seven elements of magic through use of their aura. A persons aura can allow them to control the seven elements of magic though use of their spiritual energy - alchemy and potion making are also covered in the basic levels. This discipline is often regarded as the most difficult area of study. People who major in this art are formally known as Enchanters or Enchantresses. Informally, they are known as Priests or Priestesses. This area of study narrows to the study of one of the seven elements: Water/Ice, Fire, Air, Lightning, Earth, Light and Dark. The reason this discipline becomes so complicated is that each element is responsible for a different class of magic - most people are only able to maintain ability in a maximum of three elements, and can most often only master one.
These skill sets are the focus of young boys and girls once they come of age. During their pre-teen years, they study arithmetic, writing and other scholarly pursuits. As such, some men and women choose to pursue these things in place of their discipline(s). Moreover, a person's main discipline does not dictate which specializations they can choose. For example, an Enchanter could specialize in Survival, as these classes are separated and taught at rank 5 [see below].
The most prominent goal for all Vyricians is to achieve the status of Phoenixian [Insert discipline here]. (e.g., Phoenixian Huntress, Phoenixian Archer, etc.). There can be only one Phoenixian for each discipline. As such, the majority of men and women form teams of three; one member of each discipline. [A team of three is the maximum that is allowed in global rankings.] This has a two fold effect. First, each member compliments the others' weaknesses. Second, should they become skilled enough, they can potentially all achieve the Phoenixian title for their respective discipline.
When the Phoenixian comes to power, they are guaranteed one year of power before they can be challenged, and at least three months between challenges. This is because when one challenges a Phoenixian, they must embark on a long, one week battle. This battle is to the death. If one week passes, and neither side lay dead, then the current Phoenixian(s) keep their title.
Before reaching this goal, a person/team must ascend the Vyrician ranks.
BEGIN TECHNICAL DETAILS.
The ranks are as follows:
Rank 0: In training/Fresh out of training.
Rank 1: Achieved one win in the arena.
Rank 2: Achieved five victories upon lower ranks, or two win against equal or higher ranked person or team.
Rank 3: Achieved ten victories upon lower ranks, or three wins against equal or higher ranks.
Rank 4: Achieved fifteen victories upon lower ranks, or four wins against equal or higher ranks.
Rank 5: Upon reaching rank 5, a single member may provide an alias for him/herself, a team of people may provide a team name. This alias or team name will be used to refer to said individual or team on the global rankings. At this point, the team or individual will be given their rank 5 training. At this point, they may receive specialization from their mentors. Once registered, an individual or team will be promoted to rank 6.
Rank 6: Promoted from rank 5. From rank 6 on, a team or individual cannot challenge lower rank teams or individuals. At this point, a person/team's win/draw/loss rating is wiped clean.
Rank 7: Total of 5 wins.
Rank 8: Total of 10 wins.
Rank 9: Total of 15 wins.
Rank 10: Nomination of promotion to elite ranks from an elite person/team.
Rank 11: Approved to join elite ranks.
Rank 12: All elite ranks will advance by one for every three months that pass, provided they have participated in at least 10 matches in the arena. Wins, draws and losses remain for the global rankings, but it is assumed at this point that matches are often among similarly skilled individuals. This pattern continues until rank 20.
Rank 20: This is the maximum rank for persons and teams. At this point, global ranking becomes the main concern. Persons and teams are given titles based upon their global ranking.
The titles are as follows:
Phoenixian: Ranked #1 in the person's respective discipline. This rank is accompanied by vast riches, renown and presidency of Vyrician government. This power can be shared among up to three people.
Draconian: Ranked anywhere from #1000-#2 in global rankings. This rank is given generous riches, renown and the position of Vyrician adviser for the Vyrician president(s).
Grandmaster: Ranked anywhere between #2000-#1001 in global rankings. This rank is given riches, and permitted to train people to be Masters. It is possible to skip the Master title if one can reach rank 2000 without training.
Master: Received training by a Grandmaster of the same discipline. This rank is given riches, and can train new students in their discipline.
Elite: Reached rank 20.
END TECHNICAL DETAILS.
This roleplay is mainly character driven. There will be several plots that will unfold, assuming there is enough interest. There are many other aspects not outlined here that are hidden for the purpose of giving depth and discovery to the universe. I apologize if this is not up to par; I'm new to this site and am anxious to begin this RP. I hope this layout is sufficient.
Phonetic pronunciations:
-Crix = 'Kree'
-Vyricia = 'V[eye]-riss-see-ah'
Character Sheets should follow the following format:
Name: [Something fantasy-fitting. First and last name. Middle name optional.]
Age: [The youngest should be around 16-17]
Gender: [This one should be self explanatory.]
Appearance: [Text is mandatory, picture would really help.]
Personality: [Don't worry about writing too much. I love to read. Having your moral alignment here would be nice.]
Discipline: [Formal or informal names will work. Also provide specialization if applicable. (e.g, Priestess: Fire, Earth, Light. or Archer: Snare and trap laying. Specialization does not apply to people lower than rank 5.]
Choice of weapons: [For Enchanters/Enchantresses, no weapon is required, but having a staff or something with a story to it would be nice.]
Rank: [Please be reasonable and provide room for growth. Super-high ranks will likely be rejected.]
History/bio: [Your character was not willed into existence. How did they get to where they are now? What became of their parents? Friends?]
Team members: [If they're other real players, please specify. If YOU will be playing them, please specify. If you'd like ME to play them as an NPC, please specify. If you have none...You get the picture. If I'm going to play them, they likely won't have much more of a role than combat support. If you're going to control these characters, please submit a separate character sheet for each.]
Win/draw/loss numbers in the arena: [71/0/0 is not acceptable. Your character has to have lost at one point, or they can never learn.]
Global ranking: [Vyricia as a populous of about 100,000 people. Be reasonable.]

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 4 authors
The crowd consisted of every citizen of Crix, and all the visitors. They all were forced to be present. Including Star, more commonly known as "Blue Mist". She wasn't paying much attention to the ceremony, mostly because she didn't care for politics. She knew another Phoenixian was going to take the reins, and another era of bad choices and dramatic fighting would ensue. She knew many of the fighters that were present at the ceremony. Not personally, of course, but she'd heard their names. There was 'Wiseman', and his partner, Nai-lee. There was the leader of the Damel clan, Victor. There was also, further back in the crowd, Lyr Gilliot. This was just to name a few of the faces, though.
A round of forced applause came through the crowd. Most people didn't care about who their Phoenixians were. Others were jealous. A small percentage actually cared. The group that cared most were the Draconians, since they were the advisers for the Phoenixians. Three people emerged from behind a velvet curtain upon the stage. All the onlookers forced more applause.
"Akira, our Phoenixian Bladesman!" The announcer gestured to a tall, muscular man. He was wearing a full body cloak, completely black from head to ankle. His hood was down, though, so all could see his face. From his shaggy, medium length black hair to his dark crimson eyes, and from his pearly white teeth to his flawless complexion, he was truly handsome. He had been a Draconian for less than a year before he challenged the Phonixian and indeed won. That sort of thing was unheard of. Though, one look at his armaments would speak to his ability. Even now, he had a katana at his left hip, a kusarigama on the right, and a bow slung over his shoulder. Equipped for all ranges, it seemed.
Then came the next man to the front after the applause ended. "Our Phoenixian Sapper, Rylar!" This man was as thin as a twig, and wore clothes that suited that. Looking at him, one would guess that he never ate. Pale skin, pronounced bones, and dull white hair. He used his bow, and an extensive knowledge of traps to defeat his foes. He often worked with Akira to lure opponents to their doom. When the applause died, the final Phoenixian came forward.
"Our Phoenixian Enchantress, Misu!" This girl wore all green robes, which was par for an Enchantress. Star looked down at her own robes, which were all black, with a blue star over her heart. They were sewn by her mother, and she would never wear any other outfit to her battles. Looking back to Misu, Star noticed that the female had a scar across her neck, one that wasn't there before the fight. Star laughed a little to herself. This likely meant that during the epic 3v3 battle, Misu had died, and had to be revived after the battle. Misu was far from the best Enchantress, but she was carried up the ranks by Akira and Rylar, who were geniuses in their fields. Misu simply got by because of her looks. She was admittedly very beautiful.
The ceremony continued. Each of the Phoenixians were given their crowns. They were showered with gifts. All the things customary to the Phoenixian title. And everyone had to watch. Star sighed. She'd seen this many times before, but it never got any more interesting. One of Star's friends, Rin, was there with her. "I think they should have let Misu stay dead, eh Star?"
Star giggled. "Mm. She's not really what I would call an idol." she said. She looked over at her Huntress friend, Rin, and shot her a smile. The two of them continued to affably chat while the ceremony continued, and eventually concluded. Akira, Rylar, and Misu were now the official Phoenixians of Vyricia. Wonderful.
As Star walked away from the gathering, she noticed the dead body of the previous three Phoenixians being carried unceremoniously out of the Vyrician arena. She couldn't distinguish one pile of hacked up flesh from another, which only spoke to the brutality of the current leaders. They all may be number one in their disciplines, but in Star's mind, they would score low on the ranking of the best Phoenixians.
The voice of the announcer resounded so loudly around the masses that every single person composing the crowd was forced to listen to him whether they wanted to or not. Even if one were to cover his ears (and some actually tried), they would still hear some partially muted and impossible to understand sound perfectly capable of causing a headache to the most patient of spectators. If Lyr had to choose a single word to describe what he thought of the announcer, it would have to be 'aggravating'; if he could use more, however, it would be 'so annoying it is physically painful'. Then again, he was one to react badly to anything loud.
Lyr looked like he had forgotten about the ceremony and had appeared at the last possible moment, as he had ended up quite far at the back of the crowd and his low head suggested he had woken up just a few minutes ago. Despite this, however, Lyr easily drew attention to himself, as, despite the huge crowd and people pushing each other to have some space, he had a radius of 1m of free space all to himself. It could be his partially covered and menacing-looking eyes, or the huge scars on his face and neck, or maybe the two lances with their tips wrapped in cloth hanging diagonally on his back, but for some reason people tended to keep some distance from him. It wasn't like there weren't scarier-looking fighters out there, but that didn't change the fact that he indeed looked more like a serial killer rather than a warrior to many. However, him being as distracted as he was, had yet to notice both the image he was giving away and the big space he always seemed to have around him. This was probably the reason why finding partners to form a team for the arena was giving him such a hard time.
While initially tired and clearly uninterested in the ceremony, the voice had the desired effect on Lyr and his eyes were drawn towards the stage where the figures of the three new Phoenixians had appeared while he wasn't looking. The announcer proceeded to present them to the crowd one by one, starting with Akira, the Hunter. Being a Bladesman himself, it was only natural that Akira was the one Lyr showed most attention for; while he saw him with envy and resentment, he couldn't help but also feel respect and even admiration for him. It wasn't just because of his impressive history of being a Draconian for less than a year, but also for his mastery of the weapons; just looking at his equipment at that moment, one could tell he was one of the most (if not THE most) complete Hunters around, and he probably could use more weapons than those. Rylar, the Sapper, was a more mysterious individual; other than his strategy in conjunction with Akira not many knew much about him. What was he like? Where did he come from? Lyr was one of the many people who couldn't answer those questions.
As for Misu, the Enchantress, word had it that she didn't really deserve the spot she was being given amongst the best, but Lyr couldn't really declare such a thing himself. It was hard for him to tell the skill level of an Enchanter unless the difference in rank was really big; nonetheless, he trusted the judgement of others who did know about the subject and there seemed to be little to no objection to this claim to begin with. There had to be a reason why two geniuses would put up with her and even help her become a Phoenixian though, and that was precisely why many found her almost as mysterious as Rylar.
"Borin' like always, ey?" an aggressive female voice sounded beside Lyr, waking him up from his inner thoughts.
"...eh?" it took Lyr a few seconds to react to the sudden interaction and realized he was being talked to. It was a woman with a wild appearance who had entered the circle of free space caused by the man. It wasn't surprising that she wasn't intimidated by him; if he looked like a serial killer to many, then she would look like a psychotic one. He studied her for a few seconds; he didn't remember seeing her anywhere in the middle-ranking arenas, which meant she was most likely either a low or elite-ranking combatant. As the possibility of recruiting her for a team faded in Lyr's head, so did his interest in her. "Yeah well, there's no way around it, is there?" he responded while putting on a weak smile which prompted a quick and concise laugh from her. "They are going to stay for a while, aren't they?"
"Aye, that, they will..." the woman nodded as she agreed with Lyr, a wide and somehow savage smile planted on her face. "They'll have it real smooth too. Nobody'll be challengin' 'em in a long while after what they did to the previous #1s. Strategy of fear, know what I mean?"
A weak grunt emerged from Lyr's mouth in a sign of acknowledgement. He had seen the remains of the previous Phoenixians and he still didn't know exactly how they could have been human at some point. Hell, even he was terrified at the thought of facing any of them, so even if he had the rank and status to be allowed to challenge them, he definitely wouldn't, at least not until he forgot the image of their last opponents' remains. They probably had put on that brutal show on purpose exactly to achieve that: making sure nobody will even think of challenging them. After all, if they were just strong and had won a match, they wouldn't last very long as the best arena fighters. He sighed discouragingly at the thought of how that would apply to politics; he didn't like thinking about those things, but it didn't change the fact that it affected all of them.
"Well!" once the ceremony had ended and the public was freed from it, Lyr stretched his body lazily and turned to the woman. "Might as well get to work while we can; I got a long way before I can get my word in any of this." That said, he bid farewell with a gesture and made his way out of the crowd
"Aight, g'luck, pal. Hope to see ya 'round soon", the woman responded with a gesture of her own and headed the opposite direction.
Lyr's priority at the moment was forming a team; even if he still had to rank up to rank 9 and earn a nomination before he could enter the elite, it would be much easier to form a team now. After all, most high-ranking competitors most likely already had a solid team formed from when they were lower-ranking, and it would be much harder to join one of these than forming one while still in the middle tier. He had had no luck lately, which was precisely why he needed to spend more time trying to find the appropriate people. He was beginning to think that going around with a sign advertising his team could be a better idea than he had initially thought.
He glanced down at one of his young nephew, a small, and unassuming man clad in black robes that dragged on the ground behind him. His face was hidden under an ornament steel mask. Clide Vel Naser was a prodigy among the members of clan damel, A skilled magi of earth and shadow. He was also one of the most gifted staff fighters to bless Clad Damel in decades.
"Three against three.... The best should fight alone, not hide behind others."The quite, yet accented of voice of Victor was heard, his tone showed signs of obvious destain. Clide glanced up at the worn old man, his vibrant green eyes widening slightly under his mask, rarely does Victor speak at public events.
"She...failed. Why would they give such an honorable title to a weakling? A fool can see her weakness, she died." Just a tint of and arabic on his tongue. The tone and emotion in Clides voice portrayed subtle annoyance, with a second undertone of sarcasm."Unless..." A coy smile spreads over the small mans lips, but a cold truth echos over his words."Unless... this country is run by fools."
The larger man, as well as several of the other warriors from the clan laughed, turning as they started to move toward the exit of the arena. Clide walked behind them in a near silence, his robes light and flowing behind him as he moved. Falling behind the main group, he moved to stand near Star as she looked out toward the butchered bodies of the Ex-Champions.
"What... a savage way to die." He speaks to no one in particular, but Star is well within earshot. He wonders if she will pick up the subtle invitation to conversation.
Star shuddered at the thought of the battle. Akira was always a dirty fighter. "Come to think of it, Akira probably won't allow things to go back to the traditional mercy-rule. He'd lose his advantage, then." at this point, she was thinking out loud. She walked closer to the men and women who were piling remains onto stretchers. She examined them from a moderate distance. They were mutilated, missing limbs, and had their chests torn apart. Blood was everywhere. "Eugh..." she covered her nose. The stench was unusually putrid. The current #1's had done a 'ceremonial' hacking of the dead bodies. There was nothing dignified about these remains. "Welcome to the future of our Phoenixian matches." she said. The men and women charged with carting the remains laughed a bit at Star's sarcasm.
She sighed, moving away from the scene. She waved to Victor, and headed to over to watch the next arena match, this one being held in the Crix arena. It was likely to be less brutal and bloody. A 1v1 match. The names of the two fighters were withheld, though.
[Post continued in Crix Arena]
The setting changes from Crix to Crix Arena
In the Crix arena, there was only a flat, open area to fight. There was no need for such advanced enchantments. She waited a fair time before, finally, the competitors were announced, and the arena began to fill up.
"Everyone!" came another omnipotent voice. One kind of gets used to it in Crix. "Please welcome our fighters!" as he said this, two cloaked figures walked out from opposite ends. "In the north, we have Sanguine!" the first took off their cloak, revealing a feminine figure, with a halberd. "Sanguine is rank 8. She is facing her rank 8 opponent, Pyre!" the second took off their cloak, revealing a man, dressed in all black, wielding a long staff. Clearly, he was an Enchanter.
The announcer counted down, and in moments, the match began.
The setting changes from Crix Arena to Crix
Her inconspicuous follower, shrouded by his mask and cloak only murmured in return. "And you're excited about what, exactly?"
"I know you live in books, dope, but perhaps you could take your head out of them for once. Aren't you excited about today's matches?" The small woman asked, propping her fists on her hips, and looking over to the statue of a mouse-man. "Surely you have some proverb about watching others, right?" Nai-Lee asked. She and her partner waded through the heavy crowds of people as they funneled to find a seat for the butchering that was commencing.
"Perhaps for observing your foe inside the bounds of which you're fighting, but not for bloodsport, no." He replied plainly, the masked man looking around slightly, as they found a decent place to stand, making sure they didn't obstruct the view of anyone else. "I only participate myself to further my own martial prowess. And to defend my blood, and yours. I just wish to fully develop myself, before I pass it down."
Nai-Lee rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah." She said, waving off his words with a whip of her hand. "Pipe down. I want to watch this." She said, indicating the arena floor.
Once the fighters had been announced, there was a short roar of excitement before the announcer began to count down to the start of the match. As did most of the other patrons of the crowd, she shouted the numbers as well.
"Five! Four!! Three!!! TWO!! ONE!" She cried, progressively shouting louder with the descending numbers, pumping her hand in the air. She cheered enthusiastically as the fight was officially in it's first round. She didn't know much about either competitor... but it was entirely possible her to have never seen them.

That arena looks promising, Juk. I just might use those for photo reference. ^_^
Re: [OOC] Vyricia; land of the adept
Are you familiar with the Monster Hunter games? I found an image from that game that might be good for the August arena. It is smaller than how I pictured the arena, but maybe it can be a good base. So.... Candidate?.
That's the only one that really jumped out at me, but there are many others that could apply (for example, there's a forest area; it's not very arena-like, but it might have some good image for reference). So if any of you would like to check them out, here's the wiki page for the MH areas.

Jukuma, the arenas are all varied. There are limited descriptions for the arenas currently available, for example the Vyrician arena is forested, with animals crawling about and dry blood...everywhere. Whereas the August arena is more 'beach' themed, with sand and water being the main areas. That said, most of the arenas are large.
I'm going to be updating more today, so keep an eye out for changes.
Also: I will post the beginning post today at some point. Follow my lead, if you would.

Regardless, I'm still updating the places. If you want to help, try to find some pictures of cool-looking arenas or places that would fit the setting so I can make a name for them and put them in the universe. :D
