Introduction

A woman who goes by the name of Evangeline is warped to a dimension different from her own, in pain and temporarily rendered voiceless. She has no idea where she is, nor what to do. But then, as she is about to give up hope, a mech unit accidentally warped from Planet Myrstrarkia crash lands nearby and out comes a Navy pilot from the Benjlakki Republic, whom was just shot down while he was on a recon mission out in space. Were it not for that unexplained warp, he would have been a dead man due to the atmosphere of Myrstrakia causing his mech to burst into flames. Realizing he should have died, he believes it all to be a dream, at first, until he encounters Evangeline and realizes from her torn clothing that she is neither Benjlakki nor Metargo. From there, they must survive both the planet's environment and a squad of downed Metargo Royal Navy pilots that also ended up on the planet by accident.

Green. Leaves, blades of grass. The earth felt soft, supporting life. Something thrived here, a being pulsing down throughout the air and filling her lungs as she choked down her first breath after realizing she was alive.

Her skin crinkled. Where burns were, twisted back into pink, pale flesh. Her chocolate hair curled back down past her shoulders. Her nails stretched back into place. And on her palm, the swirl etched itself in a bruising purple. The same swirl of magic as the stone.

Hush, a voice whispered to her.

She couldn't see any repairs to her clothing, all but threads. Curling up from the soil, she spun around, searching the forest floor and smelling the stiff dryness of smoke. It wasn't near. At least, the fire that had swallowed her wasn't near any longer. Or she wasn't near it. The sun had risen at an impossible rate and she was transported here by magic, the only explanation. Illegal magic.

Again, she eyed the bruised curved lines on her left palm.

Hush now, the voice danced nearby, soft as an insect's. Hush.

She must have died. Explosions were not something she was versed in, but knew that none survived them. The technology was horrifying. When the men in the forest showed her their plan for the king, she refused to be part of it. Magic couldn't be good, couldn't bring good, couldn't do anything but rain pain and destruction upon those it touched. And now she was marked by it, all because she had hoped, for one moment, to be saved.

I must be dead, she concluded, searching around her once more. Everything flourished, and yet, like the soft tap of tiptoes, the smell of smoke still lingered. I am being punished for my crimes.

((Blue means he is speaking in Benjlakki))

"Anytime now... anytime now..." Alexei was shot down in space and knew that once his mech built up enough friction with the atmosphere, he would be fried crispy and turned to ashes. the moment he opened his eyes, however, he noticed something odd: he was already close to land. "How is this possible? I shouldn't be anywhere near land. Nobody without an atmospheric entry system installed in their vehicles has been able to survive the friction with the oxygen from a fall such as what I entered through the atmosphere. Something's not right..."

The place seemed familiar, and he wondered if he was dreaming, yet this was no time to be getting caught up in his curiosity. flipping the switch tot eh radio and also putting himself on the exterior speakers, he called from his reconnaissance Blaster mech, "Mayday! Mayday! I've been hit by Metargo mechs and am on a collision course for the ground! Requesting assistance! Please, respond!" No answer. "Is anyone even there!? There isn't much time!"

At this point, however, he knew it may be too late. He was too close to land for anyone to help, now. And so, he gave out a shout as his mech made the trip towards land before a crash landing, resulting in explosions here and there. Thankfully for Alexei, the cockpit did not blow up. However, smoke did end up entering it, forcing him to open it and come out. All he could manage to carry with him were his handgun, extra clips, electronic journal, four grenades, a medical kit, and his tools, all within his backpack. Moments after he got clear of the mech, it blew up, the impact pushing him forwards and causing him to roll over a few times, grunting several times over in pain. Once he finally stopped, he groaned from the pain inflicted on him from what he just experienced. Moments like these made him glad he wore a helmet.

The visor was cracked in several locations, so he had to take it off in order to see anything. There standing right next to him was a long-haired brunette, possibly about his age, in torn clothing. All he could muster, at the moment, was a turn of the head, which was enough to keep from staring. "Well, she's neither Benjlakki nor Metargo. Where am I? I should have been fried crispy from falling through the top of the atmosphere before even coming close to land. None of this makes sense." He had no idea she could hear that, or even comprehend it. Getting up, he took off his pilot's jacket and handed it to her. "You probably won't understand a word I say, but here's my jacket. You need to look at least somewhat decent. No point in attracting perverts." Turning around so not to peek, he said out loud, "Now that I think about it, from looking at the plants and wildlife from here, I believe this is Planet Shzarkuso. If that's true, then maybe some sort of warp was involved. How does that make sense? Even the Betaku Kingdom and the Mysticaran Federation have not developed powers like that. Well, at any rate, we don't have a communications radio to get a signal through to the Benjlakki Republic Navy headquarters, back at Planet Myrstrarkia. Even if it were possible, the message would take at least a month from now to be received, and I doubt anyone would believe me, considering they may have considered me Killed in Action, by now. I guess we should find a way off this rock on our own. I can't just leave her out here, whatever her reasons are. This planet has not been fully explored, thus anything could happen."

She heard a voice. And a sound. Loud, monstrous and most definitely dangerous. Carefully tiptoeing around the dirt, she glanced to the sky. Something lit the leaves from above in a deadly orange glow. Was the sun coming down?

Finding a break in the canopy she caught the glimpse, the shine, the fire. Someone called for helped, but the voice was filtered and garbled. She couldn't make out where it was coming from...unless...it was from the...thing.

So large. Getting larger. Evangeline had no explanation for it, but ran the opposite way. The entire forest was going to be engulfed in more fire and smoke. It was magic, horrible, horrible magic.

She didn't make it far before the impact and explosion outward. Heat bit at the tree trunks, slid around them to her, knocking her to her knees. A figure emerged from the smoke seconds later and she had no ears for the longest time, her heart beating like a stone on drums. A million of them. And it took the shape of a human, without being human. Took on a bulbous head and reflective cloths. She shook, backing into a tree and catching herself pressing a thumb into her left palm, calling for strength.

Then removed its head! Pop clear off! To reveal a face and hair beneath.

"None of this makes sense," it said, the human shaped thing.

It moved its human shaped hands along his short cloak and removed it. Then handed it over to her. "You probably won't understand a word I say, but here's my jacket. You need to look at least somewhat decent. No point in attracting perverts."

He sounded human, and was obviously a 'he' as far as she could tell from his looks. Youngish, perhaps her own age.

She didn't take the cloak.

He spoke a language she knew, or thought she knew, yet didn't understand some phrases. His accent differed from hers greatly, so harsh, a lot of teeth work. Additionally, he didn't seem to think she could understand him. Still shivering, she decided to keep it that way. She didn't have strength, but perhaps her mind could keep her alive.

She just watched the cloak, arms around her body and cheeks red, hoping he didn't see anything embarrassing. That was all she needed. Another man gazing at her with greedy eyes. Remembering the night with the King...she shuddered, close to tears. Or was that the burn of the smoke? Or fear? She couldn't know. She remained against the tree and didn't respond to him at all.

Alexei did not bother to turn around, figuring the girl would let him know if she was covered. While facing the opposite direction of her, he noticed mote clouds of smoke in the distance. "I can see five total smoke clouds over there. If those are the same mechs that I shot down, and the pilots who manned them are still alive, things could get bloody. If I know one thing about the Metargo Kingdom, it's that they are very aggressive." He brought out his handgun from his backpack, along with the holster and an ammunition clip. The loading of the handgun came with the usual sounds of clicking as it was done, as well as when it was coked into readiness. Alexei placed the now-loaded handgun into his holster that he attached to his belt. If the girl looked at him as he prepared, she would see the whole process.

"Let's hope they don't spot us." The young man kept his eyes open for any movement among the enemy, yet was careful not to look in the girl's direction. Suddenly, he heard the click of a rifle nearby and got in front of the girl, shouting, "Look out!" The bullet went right into his left shoulder, forcing him backwards to collide with the young lady as he pulled out his handgun prior to pulling the trigger. The attacker fell instantly from a nearby tree into the ground. It was an instant kill via a shot to the head. Alexei got up after the brief incident so that his back was not on top of her.

"Sorry, miss." He walked up to the now-deceased Metargo pilot, examining the body. From the gray leather to the black helmet, the enemy pilot's uniform perfectly matched the classification of pilot he figured was responsible for shooting him down in the space above Myrstrarkia. "A Metargo mech ace. No wonder I was given a hard time before being shot down from the space above Myrastarkia. It does not explain the warp to Shzarkuso, but..." He picked up the rifle the fallen foe previously held, then walked up to the girl and handed it to her. He still did not look at her. Turning to face the corpse and using a knife from his medical kit to pull out the bullet in his shoulder, He said, "Can't waist... much time... around here... hopefully, she knows... how to handle a rifle."

After a moment of bleeding and pain, the bullet came out. He picked it up. "Finally got the bullet out of there! Thank the Deity it did not hit anything vital!" He cleaned up the wound as best he could, yet wrapping it up with the medical tape on his own proved difficult. "Can't really ask her to help with this, so I'll to activate the medical probe." He brought out a tiny probe and pressed the green button to activate it. "Why do people from Mysticara, Elvera, and Betaku think that there is magic somehow involved in the Benjlakki Republic's medical probes, anyway? They just use an anti-gravity propulsion system, is all. Just like with mechs that are piloted, it's just advanced technology, nothing magical." By the time he finished his monologue, the probe was already part-way through with applying the necessary bandages. Once that was complete, Alexei said to himself. "I guess I won't be getting much use out of this arm for a while."

In a matter of minutes, her worries shifted from being seen, to being killed. An explosion shot through the air as the boy with her jumped close to her front. She gasped softly, unable to manage much else as they careened backwards together. He was wounded, but quickly set to work, examining and muttering. She caught bits here and there, losing all her understanding when he handed her a long tube. Metal. It was heavy and she slowly lowered it to the dirt, watching it fearfully.

The youngish boy had protected her. She figured he was actually her age, seeming mature. And skilled. He began to dress his own wound. Minutes passes and she didn't help him, curious to his talents.

He extracted a device, another that she didn't recognize with a green circle. He pressed it down and she watched as the device applied bandages. Magic. Her thumb went to the symbol on her palm at once, fearful. Strength... He spoke to himself about how people thought it was magic, but it wasn't. But the words he used to explain it were foreign to her. He could be lying, trying to trick her with metal tubes and green circles.

She backed away, actually happy to hear him say his arm may be useless.

The trees still filled with smoke. But she considered running into them. Still uncovered, she debated with herself, quickly. Being in anyone's presence, especially a male, wasn't comfortable for her. During the raid on the castle, she had sworn against them altogether. But...he had saved her from some form of projectile. Evangeline watched him carefully, making sure his gaze wasn't on her, as it had not been the entire time.

Then she slipped behind the tree, and then another, tiptoeing away, shaking and using the smoke as cover. She was scared. She didn't know where she was. And the last thing she was going to do was trust anyone.

Alexei reluctantly turned to see if the girl was still there, but she was not. On top of that, she did not even cover herself up with the jacket. "Is she crazy!? It's suicide for a civilian to wonder off with those Metargo nearby! On top of that, she is still not even halfway decent! Does she really intend to go around without something modest to wear!? More importantly, is she looking to get herself killed out here!?" Bringing out a pair of goggles, he used the probe's help to put them on and activate the smoke vision. "I better go find her before any Metargo pilot does."

Meanwhile, two Metargo aces, both in dark gray uniforms, spotted the lady. One of the Metargo pilots was a woman with snowy blonde hair in a bun, while the other was a man with black hair whom also possessed a scar on his face from a previous battle.

The woman spoke up to the man. "That's the Benjlakki pilot who shot us down!? Seriously!?"

The man noticed the girl looking in their direction and told his comrade, "You idiot! She heard you!" He ran to get in front of the girl and pointed his rifle at her, his green eyes expressing all manner of rage. "You're not going anywhere, Benjlakki scum! Make one wrong move, and I'll shoot!"

The blonde got behind the brunette with her handguns pointed at her while he told the man, [color=red]"Aries, how do you know she speaks Metargo?"

"The Metargo and Benjlakki languages are similar, aren't they, Julia!?"

"There are still some differences!" Julia next noticed the emblem on the girl's hand. "What in Myrstrarkia is that on her hand? It doesn't look like any sort of tattoo a Benjlakki tattoo artist would ink in there. It looks too... tribal..."

"Definitely not Metargo ink art, either." Still with rifle pointing at the brunette, Aries shouted in Mysticaran, "You're a Mysticaran, aren't you!? Is the Federation of Mysticara allied with the Republic of Benjlakk, now!? Answer me, or be shot!"

Next to the group could be heard Alexei shouting, "She not who you after! It me! I shot you out of space!"

The two Metargo pilots turned their heads in Alexei's direction, the blonde saying, "That boy's definitely a Benjlakki Navy pilot, judging from his uniform, accent, and incomplete sentences. The only parts of his uniform missing are his jacket and helmet. The visor on his helmet must have cracked when he crash landed."

Aries nodded and turned his eyes back towards the brunette. "We're not done with you, yet, slut!

Alexei pointed his handgun at the man. So, you know my language? Then, that makes communication easier."

Aries looked towards Alexei, now. "Is this gal part of the Mysticaran Federation!?"

"You mentioned an emblem on her hand? Let me see it."

Aries grabbed the girl's wrist so to show the pam. Alexei could not believe the artistic design of the tattoo. It looked like nothing a Benjlakki ink artist nor a Metargo one would paint on someone's skin. It appeared a little too elaborate for a Mysticaran's taste, however, plus the design looked nothing like what someone from a Mysticaran Federation would paint, sicne most Mysticarans that are not Deiangelists revered nature, which is what most of their art revolves around. The symbols did not even look like they would go on a tribe's flag in Mysticara. "That looks nothing like what a Mysticaran would paint on a person's skin." After cocking the barrel of his handgun (which made a clicking sound) while wincing from the pain that came with using the wounded arm, Alex continued with an extremely serious tone. "Your problem's with me. Leave her alone. I won't tell you that again. If I have to, it will be with the pull of the trigger on this handgun I am holding."

Aries' rage kept him from thinking clearly, so he told the boy, "You honestly believe I will take your lies, Benjlakki scum!? She'll die along with..." Before he could complete his sentence, Alexei already pulled the trigger due to no point in stalling any longer, now that he got his response to the negative. The bullet went right through the head and killed the Metargo pilot instantly.

Julia wasted no time in catching up to the brunette and pointing one handgun towards her, the other at Alexei. "Both of you, don't move!"

Alexei was just a meter away from the two ladies, at that point, still pointing his handgun at Julia. "If you pull the trigger on the handgun pointed at the girl, I will not hesitate to shoot you!"

Julia knew she was in quite the predicament. If she pulled either or both triggers, Alexei could shoot at her and kill her. Then again, with the boy dead, the brunette would have nowhere to go, thus if she knew anything about the latest invasion plans against Benjlakk, she would likely have no chance of survival unless she can make good use of nature. Thankfully for Alexei, the medical probe suddenly flew in front of Julia to distract her with dizzying movements. This gave Alexei enough time to shoot both handguns out of the Metargo ace's hands, which forced her to retreat further into the woods.

Alexei sighed. "Honestly, what was this girl thinking, running off with Metargo military personnel around? She could have been killed out here. Or worse." Holstering his weapon, he started his frustrated shout. "And does she have any sense of modesty, whatsoever!? Does she enjoy walking around with clothing that does not cover much of anything, or something!? No wonder they called her a slut!"

The probe quickly hovered to where the jacket was, a ways back, then made it back to where Alexei and the Brunnette were and helped her put it on, since Alex only had one arm that he could use extensively. Now that he momemtarily glanced at the girl, albeit only for a brief moment, he noticed that she had some sort of comprehension of all he said. Standing next to her, but not looking at her, he spoke. "You seem to understand some of what I say, at least. You may not know the language all that well, though. My name's Alexei. What's yours?"
