VIII. History
Akinyi was raised in the pride as a child. Her biological parents were both hunters as well. Once she wasnā€™t a little cub anymore, her dad would teach her how to be a hunter like himself and her mom.

Unfortunately, right before she came of age her parents had to venture into enemy territory to find prey, and they were found and killed. Akinyi knew how things could possibly end, but her father and mother taught her accordingly. She bottled up her feelings inside and stepped up to take their place as a hunter.

Shortly after, she began to have strange fits late at night. During a walk one night, she started convulsing and changing. After a few minutes, sheā€™d completely changed into a human, though it was only for a short time. Soon she returned to her original form and returned to the pride. Now, after experiencing this a few more times, sheā€™s much more knowledgeable of herā€¦condition. When itā€™s about to happen, sheā€™ll start to have slight fits. There should be enough time for her to get away from wherever she is before she changes into a human.

I promise to intervene divinely

Season: Dry | Weather: Surprisingly cool | Location(s): Everyone at the Faction | Event: Important pride meeting called by the "Leader".

The air today was nice and the opportunity of prey was plentiful. It was one of those days, where even the elders could get giddy. Hunters and warriors forced on hunting duty could take it easy. The other prides were far off dealing with their own business. No one has yet to detect Kanta's invasion. So the leopard can breath easy as well. In fact it was one of those days that were romantic. Yes the cloud of death was looming over Long Tale but, was dissipating. Some doubted Nevaeh's ability to lead, but surely the Zorlin blood would kick in. And the lioness will be just as great as her mother. Or maybe even better. Many wiseones would say this is a blessed day.

This is why this meeting is so off putting. Neveah has called a meeting of emergency - of great importance. All cats, no matter their duties, must attend. Everyone can see Neveah standing on the waterfall's ledge. Doing her best not to slip and doing her best not let her calm crack.

I listen to other winds. I talk to other faces. I feel another presence.

Nevaeh had all the same features her mother had. A stranger could infer the Nevaeh was fierce, strong, maybe even intimidating. The feline was strong but, not in any way most would assumed. She was mentally and spiritually strong. However she's was a pacifist - like most wiseones. In fact she can be a pushover and too willing to compromise. Nevaeh was a lover and a teacher. Not a fighter or vicious dominating leader. Rarely does she enjoy taking the lead. I'm no expert! I'm not ready for any kind of leadership! I'm too young! I'm inexperienced! I know this is not my path! I know it in my soul. This time I'm not wrong.

Nevaeh couldn't keep still as she gazed down at her peers. Most, if not all, the same age as her. She closed her eyes and purred anxiety away. Tell me Great One. Tell me ancestors. Tell me which one of is the leader so, I can call them up. The lioness opened her light amber eyes. Her ears perked up and twisted in 180 degrees. Her whiskers twitched in anticipation. She looked deeply at Mowgli then Betyr. Two strong and capable males. Nevaeh went over Vale and Nina. Felines that tend isolate themselves from everyone else. But that doesn't mean that they don't have potential. Nevaeh than took a look at Seryn and Akinyi. Amazing hunters, ten times better than her and Nuru combined. Both females would be great leaders. Food wouldn't be too much of worry. Speaking of Nuru. Nevaeh dazed stare went over to her best friend. The thought of him leading made her shake her head. His attitude would motivate the pride to do anything. speak. A humble whisper with no body, glittered around the lion's ear.

"I'm sorry but, the winds take me elsewhere. I know as a Zorlin descendent it was expected of me to become leader. However I will remain as a wiseone. We all will choose and compete to be leader. Well, I won't be competing. If anyone wants to take my position, then please speak now." Nevaeh's legs were too weak to stand. While she sat, she wrapped her tail around her. Her calm falling apart. The female's muscle quivered as the weight of hers words settled on her head.

Akinyi found a smooth rock and pounced onto it. Observing the scene, she took in all the faces, though it wasnā€™t needed. This was an emergency meeting called by Neveah, the prideā€™s newest leader. Her head jerked up to the spot at the edge of the waterfall to Neveahā€™s face. It didnā€™t take much to see that she was nervous. This being her first real meeting, Akinyi could sympathize. It had to take a lot of courage and guts to get up in front of the entire pride for any reason.

She shuffled her paws and stared down at her claws, remembering the previous nightā€™sā€¦adventure. She excused herself for a walk and indulged in her transformation again. It had been three days since sheā€™d done it, so last night lifted a ton of weight off her shoulders. A sigh of relief escaped her body, allowing her to relax almost as much as she had last night.

Akinyi snapped out of her daze as Neveah began to look around at all the others. For a second, she noticed her eyes float her way. What could be on her mind? Akinyi slightly tensed as she began to wonder. What if she has noticedā€¦my condition? Akinyi knew that Neveah was a wise one, and that terrified her. Though she could expose her if she ever found out, she attempted to keep Neveah relatively close. Perhaps if she was close enough, she could show her that she wasnā€™t aā€¦a demon. She was just different. Everyone that had been speaking quieted as Neveah spoke.

"I'm sorry but, the winds take me elsewhere. I know as a Zorlin descendent it was expected of me to become leader. However I will remain as a wiseone. We all will choose and compete to be leader. Well, I won't be competing. If anyone wants to take my position, then please speak now."

There was a moment of complete silence as the news settled on every cat in the pride. The words acted as almost a numbing agent. She doesnā€™tā€¦want to be the leader? A thousand thoughts ran through her mind at the same time, all centering around that one question. Akinkyi tensed not knowing how to take the news. She then looked around her as the entire pride seemed to almost erupt in a mix of confusion, rage, doubt, and shock. This was going to be a mess.

. . . . . Nuru's diminutive, brawny figure shoveled and thrusted other big cats aside as he hastened towards the center of the faction. He was afraid he was a little late since he just came back with a few other warriors that were patrolling the lands. Luckily, the meeting hadn't even started yet. Nevaeh was still sitting there with her eyes closed, fidgeting. His muscles rippled, causing his short, spotted frame to appear like running water. His pond green eyes were burning with intensity and specks of worry but no one could read that with the look on his muzzled face. The midget leopard was furious. Furious because the meeting interrupted his organized, timely schedule for the day. Furious because Nevaeh took this long to finally step up and be a leader for once. And furious because that meant he'd actually have to take on her orders. Then again, he expected all this and despite what he thought, he still cared about his friend. Regardless of her... Flaws.

. . . . . The weather was quite nice today. It was actually cooling down to the point where it didn't feel like he was melting a few inches off his height. The patrol of the border was peaceful and he even had a chance to fill up his belly before coming back to the faction. However, when he padded back into the faction with his warrior pals, he heard about Nevaeh's stunt. "What do you mean she called a meeting?" The hot-headed Nuru bellowed at Vale, whom was guarding the entrance of the faction. Vale flicked his tail in annoyance and obviously decided he wasn't even going to dignify Nuru's behavior with a response with that smug little face of his. Nuru growled, shoving past Vale and his stupid long legs with his stupid stupidness.

. . . . . "I'm sorry but, the winds take me elsewhere." She finally spoke. Nuru instantly brought his eyes up to his leader. His friend... His stupid friend. The lioness was slightly quivering, but it was hard to distinguish whether or not if it was from emotion or because she was getting specks of water on her pelt from being so close to the waterfall. Nuru, being the hard-headed leopard he was, stubbornly determined it was from strong emotions.

"I know as a Zorlin descendent it was expected of me to become leader. However I will remain as a wiseone. We all will choose and compete to be leader. Well, I won't be competing. If anyone wants to take my position, then please speak now." Nevaeh finished, looking around at her pride and even shared eyes with Nuru. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

. . . . . The amur leopard instantly jumped up, his entire pelt bristling, his tail swiping at the air. He wanted to speak against her. However, she was the temporary leader despite the fact that she didn't want to be one. He had to respect her decision. After all, he couldn't force her to lead the pride. No one could (especially if he couldn't). "I'm speaking." He replied, attempting to not sound too sarcastic. He forced himself to flatten his fur and tried not to spit out his words. "I'm willing to take on the role as leader. Is there anyone else who'd like to be leader?" He eyed the other cats with narrowed eyes, daring them to even think about coming forward.

. . . . . Vale rolled his eyes, hiding behind the crowd of cats with the assurance that Nuru would never be leader. No one liked him, especially himself. He was annoying and aggressive and would lead them into unnecessary wars. Nuru had aggressive midget syndrome and Vale didn't want to have to deal with him trying to assert his dominance over the whole pride. He sure did a fine job of encouraging Vale not to vote for him, especially after the short-tempered scuffle at the entrance. His eyes peeked at Nina, wondering how she felt about all this. She was the only other cat who was a full-time den maid, and he had to spend a lot of time with her. She wasn't half-bad, but her coat sure was annoyingly bright. She didn't talk much, and he didn't mind that since he didn't talk much either. He couldn't read her expression, which wasn't new. In fact, he couldn't read anyone's expression even if he tried. Vale wasn't good with social interactions. He preferred solitude. This was the main reason why Vale didn't speak up in the first place. But if he did, he'd totally win over the role as leader. The pride would prefer him over Nuru any day. Vale lost interest immediately, getting off his arse to go back to his post. He didn't have to stay for the rest of the meeting, plus he could hear really well anyway.

. . . . . "You want to be leader?" Nuru snarled. Vale turned his head to see the pride all looking around to see who the leopard was talking to. They were looking at him. Vale lost patience with the male, his glossy, blonde pelt now fluffing up. "What makes you think that? I'm just going back to my post." He responded, holding a dark glare with Nuru. "It's an emergency meeting, you're not allowed to leave. And if you're not vouching for the leader role then sit. down." Vale wanted to claw off Nuru's face but the pride was already reeling from the blow Nevaeh had caused. There was no way he'd be the rock that tipped the weight and the pride into a civil war right inside the heart of the faction. So swallowing his pride and dignity (being the bigger cat, pun intended), Vale sat down. 'Please let someone speak up against him.' He prayed with all his heart and soul. 'Or let a demon kill him. Either works.'

Mowgli had been lounging on a branch over the waters of the pool. His head laying over his front legs as the rest of him was sprawled out comfortably. His tail ticked every so often from the slight breeze, but that was about it. The was where he preferred to stay. In the trees, in the shade, away from pestering cubs and young cats that acted like cubs. He would have stayed here all day if he could, but on word that an emergency meeting was brewing, be let out a sigh. Looking at the branch through a side glance, he sighed again before standing up and climbing down.

After finding a low branch near the gathering, he decided to get comfortable. Touching the branch and taking a look around, he saw the faded past of the many meetings done in this place. So many cats. Such a strong pride. A moment later and Mowgli put the vision aside. This meeting was surely important, with its emergency status. As the cats filed in, Mowgli watched, Mowgli judged. That cat's so childish; that cat's a dunce; they actually let that cat into the pride? Thoughts went through his mind. He was a harsh judge, after all. It wasn't his fault, he just has a strong opinion on others character. And, though he wouldn't admit it, there's an easy way to get on his side that he would often tell young cubs who seek his "guidance": Stop being a moron and think! Of course, Mowgli would add a "you imbecile!" or "you dunce!" at the end, but it depends on whom he is speaking to.

"I'm sorry but," Mowgli lifted his eyes to Nevaeh upon the ledge. "The winds take me elsewhere. I know as a Zorlin descendent it was expected of me to become leader. However I will remain as a wise one. We all will choose and compete to be leader. Well, I won't be competing. If anyone wants to take my position, then please speak now." The pride was silent for a moment, and Mowgli let out a sigh of relief, that was before Nuru spoke up. Mowgli felt the low growl that shifted in him, but ignored it. He wanted to see how this rolled out. He had to make a second glance though as Vale attempted leaving. Though the altercation between the two was heated, Vale took a seat, which made Mowgli shake his head. If only he stood his ground, he thought.

"Nuru," Mowgli said, loudly but mono-toned. "What makes you so sure you could be leader?" He asked, taking a moment to look at his claws to make sure none was broken before looking back at the giant stuck in a teen-cubs body. He wasn't trying to seem challenging, but the smaller cat's aggressive personality made Mowgli want to say something. "Sure, you can make a cat do what you want, out of irritation," He said the second part as a side note. "But can you really control a pride that doesn't care to listen to you?

The leopard had been a couple minutes late once the meeting was called. She had lost a cub and had to find it before it wandered off somewhere, where it shouldn't have been at all. The result ended with her being late and she carried the cub baby its fur in her mouth. She tried to make the least noise as possible and dropped the cub with the others before making her way next to Vale. During these types of an events normally she stayed near Vale, although they didn't speak much towards each other. Nina wasn't a big fan of meetings, especially when she would be surrounded by the rest of the pack. She would often get pushed around and told to leave when she was around all the others, so she tended to drift off other types of ways. It seemed to be the best option for her. She sat in the middle off to the side her head resting in her paws. She didn't really want to listen so she didn't and kept to herself.
Nina hadn't been paying much attention, but her ears still perked up listening as to what was going on around her. As Nevaeh went over to her and Vale she straightened herself up and sat up her paws resting on the ground and her head lifted, it wasn't high due to her not wanting to seem to be courageous, but not low and show she had shame. She did feel a bit of shame for herself since she was a den maid, but she didn't think that would have her want to show everyone how she felt fearing it would only make things work. Nevaeh hadn't said anything and she glanced over at Vale for a moment and turned away quickly afterwards staring at nothing in particular, not every daring to make eye contact. Her mind wandered as to why exactly the meeting was called in the first place, it made her peak around in a bit of curiosity for once.
She was about to rest her head against her paws once again, but her eyes perked up as Nevaeh had finally spoke. She looked at her in shock, the only question going through her mind was why? Although Nevaeh couldn't picture herself as being leader, she would be perfect for leading them on. Those types of things came natural to her, even if she may not exactly be the so called perfect image for a leader. Nina personally didn't know her all too well, since she didn't talk to anyone very often at all, but she did find her to be kind for the most part. Then the question arose and everyone began to look around at each other seeing who would try and take up the position. But of course the hot headed Nuru was the first to answer the question that was given out. Nina was in horror her face slightly cringed at the though of him being the leader. He was too...Aggressive and that was what he used to get other people to move and Nina wasn't pleased to hear about it. "Please no..." She whispered to herself not wanting him to be the leader of them at all. When it came to Nuru, Nina never had good experienced with him and it typically scared her to death.
Nina raised up quietly trying to draw everyone attention. She cleared her throat and she was already beginning to be a nervous wreck. These types of thing she would shy away from at all costs, but she felt the need to say something about it this time. "I would like to try to be leader." Nina spoke softly her eyes looking else where throughout the surrounding area. "Nuru tends to be a.. A um... He is a bully?" She sad and regretted her own choice of words. "Leaders should treat everyone as equals, and he doesn't at all. He tends to push people around and intimidates them into getting want he wants out of them. His actions a few seconds ago showed it." She said referencing back to when he was talking to Vale. "I'm not here to tell everyone I have all the best qualities to become the new leader, but one mistake I would hate to have everyone make would be to have Nuru as the new leader. Everyone has their own flaws, so there isn't much room for me to talk." She said and ended her small speech. She rested her head in her paws again closing her eyes and trying to calm her nerves down. Her tail flicked here and there, but she remained quiet once again.

Kanta hates rainforests. The habitat they were exiled at, where she lost the grouo she thought was family, but were actually not. She plodded through a puddle, creating a ripple in the water and a loud splashing noise. Kanta walks along the ripple of reality that is the Rainforest and Savannah (I mean as in a metaphor, she can't pass through to different realities), not knowing she was respassing on a pride's territory. Monkeys were communicating with each other up there in the trees, far from the dangers of lions, lepoards and other dangerous people. They are the king of the canopy. Kanta stops to admire them before splitting off towards the Savannah, only to hear the shout from someone and the screaming of monkeys as they panaic and swing away. Kanta immediately crouches in the grass, tilting her head around slightly to see where they are. They were where she was standing 15 seconds ago. Had they seen her? Kanta now realises that she must be trespassing and that she should get away from the immediate area. She was thinking about this before she remembered the person.

She stood up slightly to see what had shouted. Kanta sees a male lepoard, although she doesn't know the species meaning that they must be quite rare. Kanta assumes that she hasn't been notices as the lepoard walks away when another lepoard shouted for them, saying there was some kind of meeting. She stands up and thinks, her hunter instinct kicking in. She could stalk the lepoard and find out what this group is like, and move on if it doesn't seem possible. Kanta quietly runs in the direction the lepoard went before seeing a couple of more creatures, all different species.

Kanta sees a Florida Panther and her blood runs cold for a second, before the lepoard she was origonally following sort of ordered the Panther bellowing, "What do you mean she called a meeting?". Kanta relaxes slightly but keeps out of sight, not knowing the consequences of being caught. Kanta slinks around the edge of the hill before seeing the back of an African Lioness and another species she couldn't really pinpoint. She backs up quietly, hoping the lioness hadn't seen her before going halfway down and then looking out to see a lake.

She sees the lioness on the top of the hill and a waterfall with all the species she'd seen on the banks of the lake. She quivers slightly, like the lioness, who she believes to be their leader. Well, she belives this until the lioness makes an announcement, "I'm sorry but, the winds take me elsewhere. I know as a Zorlin descendent it was expected of me to become leader. However I will remain as a wiseone. We all will choose and compete to be leader. Well, I won't be competing. If anyone wants to take my position, then please speak now.". Kanta immediatly knows who's definatley going to speak up and as if by magic, the lepoard that ordered the Florida Panther and seems a bit cocky says "I'm speaking, I'm willing to take on the role as leader. Is there anyone else who'd like to be leader?"
.

Kanta starts to feel bad for the rest of them, having someone like that as a leader surley won't end well. If the have cubs and this lepoard becomes this groups leader, then the whole group will fall apart from something like a war. Kanta hears silence for a bit, worrying her, before the leopard snarled, saying "You want to be leader?" to the Florida Panther.

An Indian Snow Leopard suddenly says "I would like to try to be leader," making Kanta relieves for a second before detecting nervousness, soon being banished by the next few sentences, "Nuru tends to be a.. A um... He is a bully? Leaders should treat everyone as equals, and he doesn't at all. He tends to push people around and intimidates them into getting want he wants out of them. His actions a few seconds ago showed it.". Kanta has a feeling their confidence is boosting, which could knock the lepoard out of the spotlight, who she just remembered the Snow Lepoard called 'Nuru'. "I'm not here to tell everyone I have all the best qualities to become the new leader, but one mistake I would hate to have everyone make would be to have Nuru as the new leader. Everyone has their own flaws, so there isn't much room for me to talk," the Snow Lepoard finishes, closing her eyes, seeming to be in a state of panic.

Kanta notices a massive glow coming from Nuru's head, which she found ironic as he looked like he was about to shout. Then Kanta looks towards where the lioness is, seeing here shaking and maybe concerned about the argument from within the group. Two medium-sized rocks get dislodged as she tilted her head to check behind her. She quickly, but quietly slinks backwards an inch to make her paws hidden, but unfortunately if someone looked above where the rocks fell, they would see her head. The two rocks splash into the water, creating a loud noise because of the few seconds of silence. Kanta suddenly loses interest from worry and her tail flicks into the sunlight just as she turns to back up, and maybe to continue stalking them at a different location.

Seryn

With a successful mid-morning hunt under claw, a well fed, happy Pride, and beautiful weather to take it easy in. It was the start of a wonderful day, Seryn thought. And perhaps a hope that the cloud of death and sickness looming over Long Tale in recent moons was dissipating, if not completely gone soon. Yes... It was a wonderful day indeed. Easily, she began peacefully snoozing in the shade, curled in as tight of a ball as one could manage with silly long legs and tail intertwined. She could have stayed like that all day, until a gentle prod and news of an emergency meeting woke her from her slumber.

"I got it. I'm up, I'm up. Seryn yawned wide, flashing teeth. She stood uneasily with still sleepy limbs, shaking herself vigorously awake. Blearily eyeing Nevaeh at a distance, waiting at the waterfall's edge for everyone to gather for the meeting. She looked nervous, rightfully so, being her first meeting, an emergency one at that. She took a few more moments to blink the sleep away, and rub with a forearm the sticky sand funking the edges of her eyes away, before moving herself closer to the heart of the faction and growing crowd, settling herself at the edge to wait for Betyr to join her.

Betyr

[size=100][font=Pristine]Betyr was anything but Nuru's warrior pal, also returning from a peaceful and quiet border patrol. He gave Vale an apologetic look and a flick of his ears for the young cougar's attempt at being the 'bigger' cat as it was by ignoring Nuru's behavior. And politely waited for Vale to turn around and enter the heart of the faction towards the meeting, before squeezing himself through the entrance. Seryn was waiting for him near the back of the crowd, with a friendly tail whack across his broad chest and a ridiculous grin to match. "I thought you were going to miss it. Hunting was a breeze this morning, Akinyi and I returned early." "Good fortune, I suppose... Come on, sit down." He purred softly, as he settled down himself on his haunches easily. Seryn took longer to get her tail out of the way and wrapped around her front, as she eventually sat down a hair in front of him. Trying her best to be attentive, but Betyr well knew her mind could be a million other places by now. They waited for the meeting to start...

"I'm sorry but, the winds take me elsewhere. I know as a Zorlin descendant it was expected of me to become leader. However I will remain as a wiseone. We all will choose and compete to be leader. Well, I won't be competing. If anyone wants to take my position, then please speak now."

There was a moment of complete silence as the news settled on every cat in the pride. Complete shock was one word for what Betyr was feeling, Seryn couldn't keep still as she fidgeted uncomfortably and finally unable to hold it back. She glanced back in confusion to the silent Asiatic Lion behind her, in stark confusion. "I don't understand... Betyr, why?" She whispered, looking for answers but Betyr didn't have anything for her... Or for that matter, himself. He shook his head gently at her, and beckoned her to turn back around to pay attention. It short order, Nuru spoke up full of commanding fire, and had a few fierce words at Vale for attempting to depart. Mowgli spoke up, questioning Nuru, throwing more heat into the fire of confusion raging through the pride. Lastly Nina joined in, more fueled by her fear of Nuru leading than anything else. Humm...

Abruptly, a deep coughing growl of a voice after Nina's latest additions to the emergency meetings discussion, "Peace." It startled the nearby Seryn to her feet in hasty alarm, glancing behind her shoulder in confusion as Betyr stood to his full height. "Betyr?" She whispered softly. Betyr ignored her and remained stone-faced as the latest chattering dimmed, before speaking again. Eyeing politely the loud simmering Nuru in the center of the fraction, Mowgli up above in a low branch of a tree, and the normally quiet Nina; and then he focused on the nervous Nevaeh above perched beside the waterfall, and only her as his eyes narrowed in judgement.

"Nevaeh..." He began, pausing in emphasis of finding the correct words to say. Ancestor's help me now. "Speaking honestly, I feel the pride is at a disadvantage in this situation. I do not think we as a whole understand your decision of remaining a Wise One instead of becoming our Leader as a Zorin descendant should. I will not ask you to explain unless you wish to give us closure? The pride will respect your wishes of course. However... It is only right that if you wish to pursue the position at a later time, I believe it should be open to you, in respect of all our ancestor's before us. Or, if you have cubs one day, they should be given the opportunity to become our Leader in time as is their birth right." Betyr finished. His eyes left the younger lioness for a moment, too give a soft nod to both Nuru and Nina in acknowledgment. "This being said, the future Leader of the pride should understand that the leadership may only last one generation. It-..." "It is only fair."

Betyr wrinkled his lips in a soft smile towards Seryn, with a snort of agreement. Finally, he glanced back to Nevaeh, with an anxious twitch of his tail. "If it is to be a competition, or better yet upon your own decision, then I will offer myself for the position. But... I would follow Nina. Nuru will make a fine cat one day, but leadership would suit him ill."
It was the truth. Nina may be far too gentle of a choice if their was a war brewing, but a strong adviser or warrior unit would aid her in that manner. She was a quiet cat, but well versed in taking care of the fraction youth and home, and he'd seen her work well with anyone in his times of doing Den Maid duty as it was required. Nuru was a fool, but a young fool. Age, or a mate perhaps, would eventually temper him down. He was a good warrior, and would make a strong leader in time. But the time was not ripe for him. As for himself, well... He would serve as necessary to protect the pride if that was what it came too.

Nevaeh knew this would happen. She can feel the powerful bond holding this pride together melt a bit. She can read everyone's frustrations, confusions, and disappointment. Oh my, the disappointment was the worst. It felt like a hard rock settling in her stomach. Am I failing this pride? Am I really doing what's best for it? Or am I really doing what's best for myself? The only one seemed relieved that she wasn't going to be leader was Mowgli. Which made the lioness really glad. Nuru seemed angry at her. She thought, her best friend of all, would understand. His outburst of him being leader made her shake her head. Neveah knows that his temper would lead the pride into pointless battles. Which is something that no pride has time for. However... there is a lot of good in the leopard.

The lioness was sure that Vale would have spoken up. He seems the type male to be leader. Nevaeh has to remind herself that his main duty is being a denmaid. However the denmaid to speak up was Nina. Which shocked the wiseone. "Leaders should treat everyone as equals, and he doesn't at all. He tends to push people around and intimidates them into getting want he wants out of them." Nevaeh silently agreed with Nina. Those were some of the qualities of a great leader. What would be some other ones?A idea hatch inside her skull but, she waited for everyone to speak.

The feline felt an odd sense of calm come over. Maybe it was spirits reassuring that everything was going to be alright. That she was making the right decision. Nevaeh could feel herself get excited for the upcoming birth.

The birth of a new tradition. Yes a change. The change Nevaeh has sense since a cub. The lioness doesn't have the ability to predict the future. Just a strong instinct to upcoming events. For example, she was not shocked when her sister died. Of course she was upset - still upset to be honest. But Nevaeh knew that Zion was going to die before her prime. "not complete," another whisper glittered around her ear. The female nodded at the voice. "I understand," she said only loud enough for herself to hear. A new leader is the beginning.

Plunk..

Hmmmm..

The sound of rocks spilling caught Nevaeh's attention. To her right, slightly down the hill she saw a retreating figure. Her heart stops. An intruder! She opens her mouth to sound alarm as the two meet eyes. Both cats share the sense of panic. How did an intruder get here? Oh that's right. It's Nevaeh idea to bring everyone here. So of course no one was guarding. let go... Let go! Why would I-

"Peace,"Betyr's growl brings Nevaeh back to the important meeting. It-..."

"It is only fair," Seryn finished for the white lion. Nevaeh stood up. Already knowing her response to their questions.

"If it is to be a competition, or better yet upon your own decision, then I will offer myself for the position. But... I would follow Nina. Nuru will make a fine cat one day, but leadership would suit him ill."

"Well, thank you for offering yourself Betyr. You are very a respectable and noble warrior. You're right, I should explain myself more," Nevaeh finally spoke confidently, smiling while happily swishing her tail. "I have decided to be the temporary leader of this pride until my replacement is properly picked. There will be a competition where each contestant must prove themselves. Mowgli and I will be main judges since we are wiseones. Though anyone can voice their opinions about certain cats any time.

Now onto to why I'm not leader. It is a time for a change, a new tradition. And that change does not include me as your leader. Why this change needs happen? Well you never know why change happens until it happens. I'm not doing just for myself. I'm doing this for all of you. You all deserve a great guide for the things to come.

If you would like to join the competition, speak to me privately. This meeting is over."
Quickly Neveah got off the waterfall, bowed to the pride, scurried towards the intruder.

Just as she thought, the pride became frantic. Nuru started with his outburst that was then aimed at Vale. Though there were many reactions, Akinyi paid almost no attention as eh mind wandered around Nuruā€™s question.

"I'm willing to take on the role as leader. Is there anyone else who'd like to be leader?"

The thought encircled Akinyiā€™s mind like a snake would his prey. At one time, the thought did grace her mind. She knew Neveah would have a hard time with being a leader, and during one of her transformations, she day dreamed about possibly becoming the leader of the pride. After all, she was quite dedicated to the pride and any task she is given. Besides, Akinyi had heard all the stories and all the rumors about there being ā€œdemonsā€ in the pride. Because she was one of them, she wanted to prove that at least she wasnā€™t a demon, but a normal member of the prideā€¦kinda.

She shook out of it once Nina spoke up and offered to be leader. At least sheā€™d make a better leader than Nuru, though she wasnā€™t too tough or assertive. That, however, could be compensated for. There was no fixing Nuruā€™s nasty attitude.

Just as that thought crossed her mind, she heard the sound of something falling in water. Though she could tell what direction it was coming from, she couldnā€™t see anything in that area. There were objects and pride members obstructing her view. It seemed to be harmless thoughā€¦until Neveah looked like sheā€™d begun to panic. Whatā€™d she see? Akinyi began to stand, knowing Neveah wouldnā€™t just become on edge like that for no reason.

Akinyi crouched back down at the sound of another voice. Alerting any members of the pride would start a panic, and they were already panicked. Akinyi took a deep breath and calmed her nerves. Then Betyr spoke up again, offering to serve as the prideā€™s leader as well. Betyr seemed like a much better candidate for leader than the others, and that meant that sheā€™d have competition. Though the thought clouded her for a second, she quickly focused on Neveah once again. She remained anxious as she replied to Betyr.

ā€œIf you would like to join the competition, speak to me privately. This meeting is over."

As soon as she adjourned the meeting, Neveah went off in the direction of the sounds from earlier. Fearing that the sound may have been an enemy, Akinyi chased after her leader. While running, she ended up by Neveahā€™s side. She deeply inhaled, catching a whiff of another cat, an unfamiliar one. Her mind flashed back to the thought of being leader, but only for a second. Akinyi dismissed the thought knowing that now was not the time.

As they approached the tall grasses, Akinyi looked to Neveah. ā€Who was it that you saw? It wasnā€™t an enemy was it?ā€ The fresh smell of blood caressed her nose. ā€Wildebeest. Whoever it is just made a kill.ā€ Akinyi bounded after the smell, following the smell of both living and freshly slaughtered wildebeest.

. . . . . Nuru held his tongue as difficult as it was during his time of criticism. Even the most quiet of cats decided to speak up against him and broke down his vanity to bits and pieces. She humiliated him in front of the entire pride and it seemed half of them, in the midst of their worrying, seemed amused and some nodding their heads in agreement. He expected much from Mowgli, the grouchy wiseone, but Nina? The denmaid? How dare she. From the sounds of it, it sounded like Vale got into the timid denmaid's head. The amur leopard's fur was so bristled he looked like a foreign creature, his tail swaying menacingly as if he were about to pounce. Nuru wanted to say something, but what could he say? The whole pride would look down upon him for ridiculing the sweet little denmaid. Did the whole pride really hate him? That was when Betyr spoke up.

. . . . . "Peace." Nuru turned his head to peer at the lion, one of the warriors that was with him earlier today. He shared his piece basically explaining how Nevaeh should think about her decision once more. After all, what if her future children realized what they lost? "If it is to be a competition, or better yet upon your own decision, then I will offer myself for the position. But... I would follow Nina. Nuru will make a fine cat one day, but leadership would suit him ill." Although Nuru disagreed with the leadership part, it really hit him hard. Betyr actually complimented him. Nuru really wanted to be leader, but if he lost... He wouldn't be as upset if Betyr was the new leader.

. . . . . Nuru's fur finally flattened, his blinded rage melting away. Perhaps he was being rash but he was too embarrassed and prideful to admit that. He did get angry but the sudden drastic change the pride was going through threw him in a loop. He couldn't help it. When Nevaeh spoke once more, she looked distracted, perhaps even troubled. He would have never expected it was because of an intruder. Instead, questions popped up as to why she appeared that way. Was it his fault? Did his sudden outburst at her decisions make her upset at him? Nuru scolded himself. He wasn't going to say sorry, but he'd be willing to do anything to seem apologetic and make her feel better. She was his only friend and he kept screwing it up.

. . . . . "If you would like to join the competition, speak to me privately. This meeting is over." Just like that, she disappeared. Good grief, did this mean he'd have to chase after one of the most fastest cats in the pride? Nuru noticed Akinyi darted after the leader as well. He let out a lowly growl and followed after them. It took him a while to catch up to them, his heavily muscled body and shorter legs slowing him down. Luckily their scent was strong, so even though he couldn't see them he could still follow. ā€Who was it that you saw? It wasnā€™t an enemy was it?ā€ Akinyi's voice whispered through the wind and grass. He stumbled up to them, his fur bristling. What did she mean by enemy? That wasn't the reason why Nevaeh ran off... Was it? ā€Wildebeest. Whoever it is just made a kill.ā€ Nuru skidded to a stop, his eyes wider than the full moon. "But... I just did a patrol earlier today. That's impossible!" He snarled. "Your nostrils must be broken." However, when he took a whiff, he was thoroughly disappointed in himself. First, he was ridiculed in front of the whole pride. And now this. But... That meant the other warriors didn't catch this either...

. . . . . Vale was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of this meeting. He indeed wasn't the only one who cringed at the thought of the leopard taking control. The next wonderful step would be having Nuru kicked out but he was satisfied. For now. When Nina spoke up against Nuru, he was both shocked and pleased. Nina wasn't the . Betyr also had a say in the matter but he was still set on having Nevaeh be leader. Vale disagreed on her having a chance, especially with the fact she started this chaos in the first place. He didn't blame her for what had happened, but the result of her decision annoyed him. Now they would have to go through all this trouble just to find a new leader. Why did they need change? It was idiotic. It would be much easier if Nevaeh just took the role as leader. However, having a wishy washy leader wasn't good either.

. . . . . When the meeting dissipated, Vale set his sights on the snow leopard beside him. "I didn't know you had it in you, Nina." He teased, his tail curling around the front of his paws. "You usually never say a word during meetings." He bowed his head a little and let out a soft purr. "You'd be a good leader. Denmaid's sacrifice so much for their pride so it's already set in our blood to be leaderly whether we want to or not."

As the Meeting continued, Mowgli listening to the voices of his fellow cats speak. Some of the ones who were further away were just blurs in his eyesight, but their voices distinct. Hearing the soft piping up of who could only be the quiet den maid, Nina, Mowgli was pleasantly surprised. Thinking back, he wasn't even sure he heard her talk this loud before. It's not like he makes it a habit of being near cubs, though they always seemed to find him. The recalling thought of a small group of cubs not leaving him alone made him let out a low sigh, his ears going back in irritation. But that was a whole other story that had no event in the meeting going on now.

Soon after Nina spoke, Betyr was heard, his voice deep. Mowgli admired the lions sense of peace and honor, it was refreshing, especially now with the pride in a bit of chaos at the moment. Noting Seryn's small interjection that complimented Betyr's overall speech, Mowgli saw the duo as one, always close by each other whenever Mowgli decided to look out for either of the two when he needed a reminder that not every cat was like Nuru. Of course, bringing Betyr's small compliment for the smaller cat, Mowgli had to agree that the little guy had spirit, even if that spirit was too much for him to handle at times.

Either way, the meeting came to a close as Nevaeh explained what would happen. Mowgli gave her an accepting nod on her and himself being the judges of a competition for leader. He had known that a change was coming, though he hadn't known how soon. But if this was the way Nevaeh had to make that change come, Mowgli was accept it. It was the way it had to be. The cats dispersed as the meeting was suddenly disbanded. Watching as Nevaeh, Akinyi and Nuru rushed off after something, Mowgli simply brushed it off. "I'll have no part in running after something, thank-you," He said to himself, his eyes closed with his nose somewhat pointed upward in a snobbish kind of way. Opening one eye, he noticed a small cat looking up at him. Scowling down to the cat from his branch, Mowgli growled. "What?" Mowgli growled lowly at the cat and, with a scared yip, they ran of out of sight. Making a hmp sound, Mowgli closed his eyes angrily while using the anger to lay down hard on his paws. "Time for this cat to take a nap," He said aloud to himself, drifting off into the darkness of his cat-nap, his ears twitching at every small sound.

I listen to other winds. I talk to other faces. I feel another presence.

ImageWhen Akinyi followed and then spoke to Nevaeh, the wiseone had to bite her tongue. And hold back a hiss. She didn't hate Akinyi but, that air of lies and unrest surrounds the other lioness. Which deeply bothers Nevaeh. Fortunately Akinyi didn't exactly wait for the wiseone's answer anyway. Rude. The female easily kept up with Akinyi, though she wasn't exactly graceful. The two were following the scent of wildebeest blood killed by a unknown cat. Soon enough a growling short leopard was pursuing the intruder as well.Though thinking back to the female leopard's presence. The wiseone sensed no ill will.

When the group of three came to a stop. Nuru was quick to insult the huntress and wallow in his hurt pride. Nevaeh purred and licked her best friend's ear. "It's not your fault Nuru. I should of had at least one warrior keeping watch, while holding the meeting. If it makes you feel better. I felt no bad intentions from the leopard intruder. Plus the blood is fresh so she's not far." Nuru didn't respond verbally but, his ears did turned pink. The male's chest swelled up a bit, his tail and head raised a bit higher. He then started walking towards where the scent trail lead. His whole body read: come on, let's continue on with the mission! ((Didn't god-mod, I asked Rhosynn permission.)) With a lighthearted smile she nodded at the other lioness and fallowed the scent.

Kanta finishes her meat, carelessly leaving a bit of bone behind as she walks through the forest. As she turns to continue, Kanta sees a small neon orange glow and spots a tiny group, made up of Nuru, the lioness and a lion that she counted with the other lions in the crowd. She turns and starts sprinting as she hears a shout coming from the direction of the three. Although Kanta is fast, it doesn't take too long to make her tired, about 5 minutes worth of sprinting will stop her from walking for a good 15 minutes, so she gets tired within 2 minutes. Adding the hill's incline, Kanta takes 1 minute to become tired.

As Kanta starts to tire and her sprint slows own slightly, she begins to forget a few things. She spots an opening up ahead futher up the hill and charges for it. By the time she sees where she charged too, it was too late. Kanta was going to either trip or jump in the water, but she makes a leap of faith before her legs would tangle up on each other. She felt the air brushing against her fur and for a few moments, she felt like time had stopped, until she plunged into the cold water.

Kanta face smashes into the bottom of the lake as she didn't calculate how deep the water was earlier when she was stalking this group because she was distracted by their meeting. She howls in pain under the water, taking a gulp of water by accident, before surfacing. Her breathing starts getting heavy as she feels her fur getting wet and her adrenaline she hadn't realised had kicked in when she ran away from the three. Unfortunately, the three memebers of the group have now turned into about ten to fifteen. They quickly surround Kanta and a few growl.

She pants for a few second before noticing a gap above a lepoard's shoulder. Kanta makes another mistake in the panic as she doesn't realise that she can't jump over the whole of the lepoard. She makes a dash for the lepoard, like she was about to attack it, attempting to jump over it's shoulder, her paw clipping the lepoards shoulder. Kanta is sent sprawling onto the ground and she stays there, playing dead because of fear.

When she realises that they aren't buying it, she heaves herself back up and looks around at the angry members of the group she was stalking. She gulps as she remembers something like this happening when she was younger. She was a cub back then, quite an old cub, but still a cub. After her father was slaughtered by her first group's leader, she and her mother were surrounded like this. Kanta's legs self-consciously start to tremble and she feels a cold air pass through her, almost paralysing her.

She keeps her ground and awaits her fate.

"Your nostrils must be broken."

Akinyi sighed, shaking her head at Nuruā€™s remark. She knew what she smelled, after all she was a hunter. She shook off the insult knowing that getting into a confrontation with him was pointless and would make her look like she had no self-control. However, she did look at him quick enough to catch his disappointed look. Of course heā€™d blame himself for an intruder, but it wasnā€™t like it was his fault.

"It's not your fault Nuru. I should of had at least one warrior keeping watch, while holding the meeting. If it makes you feel better. I felt no bad intentions from the leopard intruder. Plus the blood is fresh so she's not far."

Neveah said just what she was thinking. Akinyi growled in agreement with both that it wasnā€™t his fault and that the intruder wasnā€™t far. The scent was strong and it ended nearby. Neveah led the way, but as soon as Akinyi notices the bones on the ground with nobody there, she rushed ahead. There was no way she was going to lose the intruder, enemy or not.

Bounding ahead with her nose taking in as much of the trail as possible, Akinyi ran. After a minute, she hears a splash and begins to smell lots of other cats. Her breath stopped for half a second, considering the possibility that maybe Neveah was wrong. Then she sighed recognizing the scents as members from the pride. However, her breath caught again. The hostility was so great, it almost bore into her. She ran as quickly as she could coming up on the scene as an unfamiliar leopard pulled herself off the ground. She was obviously hurt and tired, but Akinyiā€™s comrades were prepared to attack.

ā€œSTAND DOWN!ā€ Akinyi growled at them, not menacingly, but urgently, urging them to heed her. Recognizing her intentions, they backed off. Akinyi looked down at the female cat. Her legs trembled as she attempted to stand her ground. The leopard wasnā€™t showing any signs of aggression, even when sheā€™d been completely surrounded. She lookedā€¦almost lost. Akinyi suddenly was overwhelmed, immediately feeling sorry for her, wanting to help. She reminded her of herselfā€¦

With gentle movements, Akinyi approached her. ā€Whatā€™s your name and your business here?ā€ She didnā€™t want to alarm her even more, but she still had to explain what sheā€™d been doing, coming onto another prideā€™s land.

Betyr

"Well, thank you for offering yourself Betyr. You are very a respectable and noble warrior. You're right, I should explain myself more, I have decided to be the temporary leader of this pride until my replacement is properly picked. There will be a competition where each contestant must prove themselves. Mowgli and I will be main judges since we are Wise Ones.

Betyr dipped his head is ascent to Nevaeh's response. It was clear that he was reluctant in doing so, but the soft, however, still judgmental glint in his eye. The pride, and himself, understood better the decision of course, and still... This kind of change was an unnerving concept. He granted that change did happened over the seasons of good or bad cycles, over long stretches of time; but it could more usually be attributed to a bad drought, or changes in territorial boundaries, or war, or sickness even. To not have a Zorin descendant to lead them, it was unheard of until now. Which was the cause of chaos felt swirling around the pride's members. Weary of such a change, weary of some far-fetched ancestral retribution - yes, Betyr could agree with it such sentiments. But, he would respect their temporary leader's decision and wishes, of course.

As the crowd dispersed to resume duties or free-time during the day to include idle chatting to peaceful snoozing, Betyr noted the sudden disappearance of Nevaeh. Closely followed by Akinyi on the other young lioness, and lagging on the tail, Nuru went as well. It was a curious sight with no Patrols scheduled, and the evening hunts weren't ready to begin, but three cats together - two Lioness and a Leopard with enough attitude to make himself as large as a Lion if he felt the need for it (which was, well, often enough) could handle themselves without worry on his part. It was then he glanced upward, Mowgli too had noticed their abrupt departure, but had the right idea. A nap, under the tree mind, Betyr would not dream of ever getting up a tree or laying on a branch (he knew well his weight and size, could not be supportive by most, if any trees, easily, sounded good.

Image
Seryn

Even as Betyr mentioned he was going to take a small nap himself, Seryn did not feel like she could join him. She was far to awake to resume her own nap, previous to the meeting. It would be a struggle attempt to be more or less fake being asleep without bothering her white lion 'brother', let alone and most importantly not bother the grumpy Mowgli perched on the tree branch above. She felt it was caused by the unease felt by a lack of understanding, and even now after knowing more about the reason why Nevaeh had made such a decision, and the coming changes; all still tickled her paw pads into restlessness.

"Alright, Betyr. I'm going to go scout the herds for the evening hunt. She purred softly, giving a friendly tail-whack to his chest as he walked away to lounge in the tree's shade - sprawled out, with his heavy head resting on his paws. She turned on her heels, and brought her gait into an easy jog out the entrance of the fraction and unto the plains. She was curious where the others had went, but not wanting to spoil time alone or hunting she could only assume, Seryn headed a different direction than the one the three - Nevaeh, Akinyi, and Nuru- had taken earlier.

Scouting the herds for the evening hunt was rather uneventful. Most of the pride's common prey animals hadn't moved much since the morning hunt had stirred them around a bit, everything seemed healthy and well fed at a distance. Although, towards the north, the wildebeest certainly were throwing up quite the anxious cloud of dust, had drastically moved their positions from the morning, and seemed to be acting funny. Well, funnier than normal. Cat's made sense. Prey animals, sometimes, Seryn wasn't sure they had thinking brains at times.

Still... She frowned. It was not right. Perhaps Nevaeh, Akinyi, and Nuru had decided to take down a wildebeest? She'd check it out on the way past the watering hole, to catch a quick drink before going back into the heat to find the reason why for the herds' anxiety. She began a slow, gentle lope in that direction.

Nina was quiet the rest of the meeting. She caught onto bits and pieces of what was going on and didn't really want to be involved in the rest of it all When Betyr had spoken up and she was surprised. Nina was merely trying to not have Nuru lead the pride out of all things. She wasn't looking forwards to having him boss her around even more than he did now. Nina was a bit bigger than Nuru, just by a small bit, but Nuru could care less and bossed her around making fun of her job whenever he possibly could. Nina feared the cat and him being a leader would most likely stir something bad for her. She was relieved when Betyr offered to also take the role as leader and she knew she didn't have to fret anymore on it. Nina wasn't going to be chosen at all, and nor did she want to be.

The meeting soon had ended and three of the other cats had already taken off. Nina sat there waiting fr everyone to leave before cubs were dropped back off with her, while their parents had worked. She stretched out letting out a soft purr when she thought that everyone was gone including Vale. She opened her eyes and was shocked to see Vale still standing there as everyone had left. It was rare to hear Nina purr and she tended to not like having other people hear it, although it was soft and gentle she felt as though it made her seem too weak. She straightened herself up as soon as she could and that led only to the sat making a fool of herself and falling down onto her side. She got up quickly her claws digging into the ground trying to hide how embarrassed she had felt right then. She was clumsy too much and she didn't want him to see that too. When he spoke she was easily able to tell he was teasing her and continued to let him speak till he was finished.

"I didn't do anything. I offered incase no one else did." She spoke softly looking down at the dirt and grass beneath her. "That was driven by fear, Nuru isn't one that I like very much. Him becoming leader would make me feel..." Her words drifted off and she didn't bother to continue what she had spoken. She pressed her paw down when she saw a spider crushing it underneath and rubbing her pw against the ground. "I'm not willing to compete in this whole thing. Nor do I even have the capability to." She told him honestly looking up and around not trying to make eye contact much at all. Nina would only willingly talk to Vale out of all people on her own. She chose to distance herself from most people around her due to her own personal feelings on things. She want looing forwards to getting close to others, only to be left behind and alone having to tend to her own wounds. As a small cub she was taken into this pride not born into it. That's what makes her feel as if she doesn't belong here. The rest of the pride never tried to make friends with her. When Nina had gotten older she was forced to become a den maid and it wasn't by choice. She looked up at Vale hurt in her eyes for a moment, but she quickly made sure it wasn't shown soon after. "The sacrifices I make are ones I was forced have to made. This wasn't what I wanted to do in a pride. Be the lowest of the low and treated like dirt by nearly the whole pride. I was taken into this pride and the only thing I am allowed to do is be a den maid." Her voice was a mixture of emotionlessness and hurt that she tried to cover up.

I wasn't possible for Nina to even tempt to do anything, but be a den maid. Her leg was too injured to require her to do anything that would cause her to go beyond a slow jog. That sets her at a bad disadvantage so when it came down to it, she really did have no choice in it. Only few people had known about her hind leg, those three didn't include Vale. She felt that if she would have told the others they would have used it to their advantage, and she feared that the most. When she realized how rude she may have sounded her eyes went wide and she apologized about it. "I'm sorry, this isn't a topic I like to talk about much." She told him softly. She let the both of them pause and it was silence. Nina had turned ad began to head towards the pod. She didn't invite him, but silently invited him letting him choose as to which he wanted to do. When Nina arrived she let her tongue scoop water into her mouth and she drank it quietly. Afterwards she sat up and began to lick at her fur tending to herself.

Kanta looks around as she is surrounded by all sorts of species of cat, and they're all ready to tear her apart. Her legs tremble as a lioness asks, ā€Whatā€™s your name and your business here?ā€. Kanta's legs straighten as she sees a gap in the circle, that isn't big, but is enough to get through. She looks away from it, remembering where it was in the back of her head in case she needs to run. She tries to talk but her shyness (if that's even a word xD) makes sure that no words come out, but it's obvious she's trying to speak. All she could get out was "Ah" before bolting to the gap and this time successfully getting over the Bobcat's shoulder and continuing at full sprint, her energy suddenly recharged.

She darts in and out of the bushes, without knowing if they were chasing her or not, which they most likely would be. She charges directly ahead of her, not knowing she was going to where the meeting took place and where some of the pride still was. She'd thought the whole pride was back there. She sees Betyr, but mistakes him for a rock in the chaos and she steps on him, losing balance as she jumps, sending her sprawling again, but she gets up in an inhuman amount of time. Kanta sets off running but she takes 4 seconds to get to a full sprint.

As if the world was against her, the trees ahead are clumped together like a barrir, forcing Kanta to dodge right to avoid colliding with the trees. Kanta keeps sprinting until she starts hearing a loud gushing sound of water moving quickly. Her eyes widen as she sees a river ahead, with rapids and too wide to just jump across. She gets to the bank and lays flat under a large fern, hoping she won't be seen. She is panting from the running, her front right knee cap sore from smacking the ground twice and her nose refuses to smell from the underwater collission earler.

What Kanta doesn't know is that the river takes her right to the waterfall and back to the meeting area that she watched and listened in on.

Betyr

Betyr was unsurprisingly used to getting pounced on during naps. Between Seryn, however, Seryn did not do it as often, thankfully, anymore as she once had in her younger moons, and the current three playful young cubs of the Pride; it was the Cubs he had to deal most often with when taking a nap recently. Of mostly dainty paws, curious nose tickling, and the largest (or technically the fattest, well-fed rascal) at times could get an 'Oof!' out of his deep chest if they landed on him just right. Granted, he had never been landed on by a mostly full-grown Leopard...

With an explosive, coughing snarl of startled confusion ripped free of his maw, Betyr's fair eyes snapped open to find a sprawling leopard tail-lengths from his nose. After apparently thrown off-balance from landing on a chunk of flesh and blood, instead of a rock she'd been hoping for. His startled confusion quickly transformed into startled anger, as the young female scrambled to her feet was an unknown, a rouge, a possible spy, and was bolting through the heart of the Faction. It took a spare moment longer for his feet to get underneath him, before launching himself after the unknown Leopard in fierce chase - a short cuffing roar announcing his presence and chase in process. Betyr hardly had speed on his side, but his own stamina, knowing the terrains' and faunas' natural twists and turns kept him close and the scent fresh, and the growing weariness and injuries the younger feline had were slowing her down some.

Arriving by the river side, Betyr was winded but not panting significantly. His sparse mane was windblown wild and flat, but his hackles were raised along his back and ears pinned tightly to his head clearly showed his displeasure of being awoken so rudely abrupt and the fact that a rouge was running loose through the Pride's home and territory. His keen eyes caught the flash of a tail along the bank-ferns, the scent of fear was high on the air for his nose to catch, and her gasping breaths easy to hear. There she was. A fresh growl of warning rumbles through his chest, before he spoke "Come out now, young Leopard. You're hurt and weakened from running, and will not last much longer against an alerted Pride. State your name and your intentions in our lands, so that we may hopefully put away our teeth and claws shortly."

Seryn

"Oh move out of the way, I just want a drink. C'mon..." Seryn grumbled, as she squeezed through the gathered cat's, only to find them creating a semi-circle around a frightened unknown Leopard female. Akinyi seemed to be questioning her for her name and intentions, with Nevaeh and Nuru and other pride member standing by; when suddenly the cat bolted again over a bobcat's shoulder, sprinting away fast, towards the faction. In the resulting commotion, their was pointless mess of tangled limbs and hisses of confusion, as the cat's tried to make chase. Nevaeh easily taking the lead, while Seryn as fast as she was, did not have additional stamina over longer distance to keep up with her tremendous speeds.

It ended up that she had just caught up, panting with a heaving chest, and dry mouth, hurrying the distant cuffing roar of Betyr and Nevaeh's much closer roar of "She can't! She can't-... She can't leave! No matter, she can't leave," as she thrashed on the ground ahead, struggling to free her paw from a tree root. Seryn paused there, bending down with slender legs to help pull at the larger lioness trapped paw, as she gasped "Betyr is after her. Hang-... Hang on, let me help pull."

. . . . . Nuru felt no convictions chasing the animal that had intruded their territory. That was, until he saw the spotted pelt that had so desperately tried to flee the scene once they had caught sight of her. It was one of his kind. Where was she running off to? Did this idiotic leopard realize she was dangerously close to their faction? Where the whole entire pride was currently residing? Obviously not. Nuru tried his best, scrambling as fast as his short legs could carry him, to keep up with the two swift lionesses. Splash! One by one, members of his pride had stalked towards the scene, growling and fur bristled. The intruder was surrounded. Praise the moon and stars, he was sure he was going to die of exhaustion if they had to run any further. Nuru's body was heaving from chase, shoving himself into the circle to examine the cat. Her ears were flat, eye-lids peeled back to reveal a terrified individual. Served her right. Then again, Nevaeh did mention she felt no ill-will in this leopard. Nuru's lips curled back with a hiss.

. . . . . ā€œSTAND DOWN!ā€ Akinyi ordered, causing Nuru to flick his tail in annoyance. Who was she to tell him what to do? "What is your name and business here." She asked the leopard. The spotted female opened her mouth to speak, but instead of answering, she bolted. Her paws pushing off the back of the bobcat, Lourdes, causing the bobcat to fall on her face from the weight. Everyone scrambled in a confused frenzy after the leopard, Lourdes cursing madly from the sudden attack and almost outran the whole pride after her (minus the three fastest females of course). So many things were happening at once, it was hard to recall everything that happened. Nevaeh got caught in a root of a tree, yowling that the leopard must be stopped, Seryn stopping to help. The rest of the pride scattered in different directions in attempt to circle around and catch her that way. However, Nuru pursued forward, past his best friend and trailed behind Akinyi. By the time they reached the leopard's scent, a very angry Betyr had cornered her hiding in the lowly brush of ferns inside the faction.

. . . . . "Come out now, young Leopard. You're hurt and weakened from running, and will not last much longer against an alerted Pride. State your name and your intentions in our lands, so that we may hopefully put away our teeth and claws shortly." Nuru was delighted to witness such a rare event. The satisfaction of finding the intruder and catching her, seeing Betyr show an actual emotion... It was quite an eventful day, he almost felt better from being ridiculed earlier. Without a lick of caution, he approached the ferns where Betyr was crouching in wait for the leopard to come out.

. . . . . Vale already knew that the pride didn't like Nuru all that much. It was just sort of strange to hear it come out of Nina. So she only offered because she was afraid... That was more expected... For a moment, he thought she actually wanted to be leader. Then again, he kinda wished that really was the reason. He was proud of her for speaking up. "Well, if you don't actually want to be leader, you can always drop out of the competition." He suggested, a slow blink to show his understanding. When he mentioned the whole sacrifice thing of being a denmaid and how it was an honor, she appeared hurt and stared at him for a moment before saying a word. What could be going on in her head? "The sacrifices I make are ones I was forced have to made. This wasn't what I wanted to do in a pride. Be the lowest of the low and treated like dirt by nearly the whole pride. I was taken into this pride and the only thing I am allowed to do is be a den maid." Vale was almost insulted at her comment. Lowest of the low? Treated like dirt? Being a denmaid should feel like an honor. Denmaids are the most important cats in the whole pride besides the leader itself. They had to care for the young future of the pride, protect the faction from nightly invasions, they did the hard work to make sure the pride could still function! Then again, not all cats were made to be a denmaid. It was a large sacrifice to make, and if one wasn't willing, of course they'd be upset. He did make the choice after all. However, he didn't know Nina wanted to be something else.

. . . . . There was a moment where Vale and Nina looked at each other with shocked faces, as if they both didn't expect for Nina to talk like that. "I'm sorry, this isn't a topic I like to talk about much." she apologized, turning away and padding towards the pond. She didn't say anything, like if she wanted to be left alone or not, so he followed. Nina took a moment to lap at the water, so he waited patiently, plopping himself down on his rump beside her. He didn't say anything though. He wanted for both of them to enjoy the silence. However, it didn't last long. A spotted pelt flashed behind them, towards Betyr whom was peacefully napping. Vale immediately stood up, claws unsheathed at the sudden movement. The leopard certainly moved too fast to be Nuru and he was the only golden leopard in the pride. An intruder. The leopard took a leap off the lion's side, but didn't jump up as high as she wanted to, crashing to the ground and running towards the ferns. Betyr let out a mighty roar, chasing the leopard around the faction until she tried to hide. He cornered her, commanding that she show herself while Nuru and Akinyi made an appearance. They were panting, as if they were chasing the intruder for moons. Vale scolded himself for not guarding the faction like he was supposed to and bounded to Akinyi. "What is this madness?" He snarled, taking in the scent of the leopard in hiding.
