"You coward, they're just going to take another life but the only one you care about is yours."

Azuma's eyes flashed red as he glimpsed the girl's upcoming actions. His eyes widened before the fact, but as his hands were currently occupied, there wasn't really much he could do aside from brace himself from the pain that was sure to arrive in a matter of seconds. Soon enough, the blow connected and he was sent to the ground in agony. Of course, he already knew he was a coward. He was indeed a coward. He spent most of his life on the run. Running from his family, from the police, from the forces that brought him here. Running was the only thing he knew how to do. Thankfully, Reyna had let the two go in the end, but not before she made a comment that served to bother him.

"Isaac's death is on you."

That was something he hadn't really allowed to sink in until that very moment. He snuck a glance at Isaac, but it was not a face he recognized. Those two brothers, he hadn't been keeping tabs on them with his astral projection so he knew as much as the next guy about them. He awkwardly made his way back to the wall he had been at before the entire situation happened and slumped to the ground. He couldn't get that thought out of his mind, Isaac's death is on you. He wanted to make a retort, something about how everyone's death would have been on her, or how he'd gladly sacrifice one to save many, but he couldn't bring himself to say anything. His death is on my hands...? He thought to himself. He looked over at the Wraith, no Ember, and he knew what came next. Ember was someone that he had been keeping tabs on, but that doesn't mean it changes. Seeing someone get killed off, it's not something that anyone should get used to. Even though he had seen her do it several times before, he couldn't help but let his mask of indifference waver at the male who had just gone limp.

He let his eyes drop down to the ground, not wanting to see anymore. If the girl was right, if Reyna was right, then that death was his fault. He, albeit indirectly, just became a murderer.

Another grin ran across the blonde man's face. Healing capabilities, huh? That was interesting. "How very interesting..." His breath let out slowly in a subtle murmur. He was still, simply starring for another few seconds as the wound slowly closed up, then the dark red blotch fading to a dark orange. But once it was healed, Matthaus lost interest. He whipped his head around to look at the blank walls around them. "Because I can't tell." And it was. The blobs of colours obscured most details. His head turning around to look over his shoulder, he his lips pulled back into a smile, showing his teeth."So I appreciate the enlightenment."

But with that, the long haired man returned his gaze in front of him, now looking at a pair of mutants. His hands slipped behind his back, folding neatly in each other. As he walked the man leaned back slowly, walking past the two. "Twins perhaps?" His toothy smile grew larger. The glows of colours were different on each. One showed soft reds and oranges, the other had bright yellow. "Or a manifestation maybe?" Matthaus straightened out. "Those things are tricky sometimes." He muttered, crossing his arms. His eyes wavered around the ceiling and walls briefly, biting his lips and cheeks.

But again, he lost interest,

He turned on his heels once more, now looking at another pair of mutants, though who are completely different entities. They were hugging. Apparently. One seemed a little more into the 'connection' than the other. Speaking more to himself, Matthaus rhymed,"Look at you,
Broken girl.
Trying to be so strong,
Heels clicking against those streets,
The ones that only sparkle during the night.
" Almost as random as the girl herself, perhaps.

But then Matthaus looked at the partner who was a little less interested in the contact. " Look at you,
A younger girl who never thought she'd be here.
They only see that desperate girl,
Your body is no longer yours
" He always did this.

Then lastly he looked at the one who had freaked out earlier, which he paid no attention too. "Look at you,
Beautiful soul.
I know you can't pretend to have this strength anymore,
I don't want to lose you to those unforgiving eyes,
But soon I know I will.
" Everyone did.

Placing a frail, emaciated finger on his cheek, Matthaus, this time, turned slowly. Looking at the people who entered after him. Two men. One with glasses and one who's eyes change colours. Like his perhaps. But less often. "I'm surprised they let you keep those." He stated, apparently to no one once everyone settled down. Whether he was referring to the man's glaces or the other man's book, or even the cigarettes, it was hard to tell. Matthaus was vague on most matters, but he ended up walking over to a bench, sitting down next to yet another young girl. Younger than anyone else here.

"My, my, you're a sweet treat now aren't you?" His gaze was strange as he blinked several times, the colours flipping from red, to green, to yellow. His smile was much softer than his previous ones, but with his chin slightly pulled down, it was all the more odd.

But his conversing didn't last too much longer than that, for the door opened once more. Instead of another mutant, a scientists, along with some of his pets lingered inside. Matthaus smiled in an old fashioned manner, pulling his legs up onto the bench and crossing them . He slipped his hands in the open space between his crossed legs and listened, almost intently, as the stubby man made his bold and loud announcement. "You all take to long on matters such as these." He quickly responded once Special training was mentioned. But he remained silent as the scientist continued. One of the twins was pulled up to the front of the room, and Wraith was beckoned as well.

But things started to decline as the attention was pulled to other matters. The scientist and Wraith both froze, and the youthful girl began to protest. It was an odd reaction to such a thing. Matthaus looked up at her as she stood defensively, tilting his head slightly and his eyebrows furrowed. The ever changing eyes squinted slightly and his mouth was also agape, but also slightly.

The conflict went on for only a matter of a few seconds, several other mutants getting involved. The one with the book and the other with the glasses. How strange... His gaze switched back and forth between the three, the one who had a book now using physical intimidation to stop the girl.

And she did.

How peculiar...

The scientist and Wraith were set free, but the young man was slammed to the ground. It all died down fairly quickly after that, each mutant now remaining silent. The scientist proceeded, and so did Wraith. She stood in front of the boy. Waited a few seconds. Took a breath in.

Then he fell.

Matthaus looked carefully at the limb being in the room. Squinting some more as the red slowly started to turn blue. He then folded his hands together and looked at them.

"How very interesting...

Druggie
Image

When someone started talking it made Druggie look up and realize that she was hugging a person, she gave a long blink before widening her eyes just slightly. Grabbing the girl by the shoulder she used Juniper to pull herself up till she was sitting up once more looking around the room at nothing in particular. The words that Juniper had said finally registered in her head and her head slowly turned toward the girl eyes wider still, was this person God? Not only did she know about Wallace but she had said that he was good, but since Wallace was her enemy did that make herself the villain? Maybe no one was the villain. Druggie turned her head facing forward forgetting all about the sentient wall and gods who knew about them, her thoughts turned instead to something she hadn't had in a long time, food.

Druggie stood up walking over to one of the people in white who usually gave her the food things at this time, walking up to him she stuck out her hand waiting for the foods to get in it. The scientist huffed angrily and motioned to one of the guards who pulled out a needle sticking it into her arm letting out the toxins into her system. Druggie's eyes drooped and her knees felt too heavy so she decided to not stand anymore and made friends with the floor where someone else had already made friends and was lying down next to her. She smiled lazily moving her hands over to play with his colorful hair fingers too stupid to move, she just lay like that hands outstretched blinking every lunar cycle. Her mind was a blur of drug induced hallucinations and numbness, everything was nothing to her in her own little world.

Brent
Image

There was something wrong Brent knew it, the guards knew it but they just weren't telling exactly how much they knew. Frustrated the boy fumed in silence, they were taking him somewhere different today not his usual room where they tested he was given a shower and clothes. In his past Brent had learned that in the facility if you are given something good chances are that something very bad was about to happen to you, he wondered if this was it if they were going to kill him now, had his usefulness run up? Brent mentally prepared for the worst and when the door slid open with a his he wished that he was dead.

They were sticking him in with a bunch of mutants, the one thing he hated. Brent had always seen himself as an "in between-er" someone who wasn't quite mutant but also not completely human, much rather clinging to his human side. But of coarse that's not how the scientists and guards of the facility saw him, he was a mutant like the rest of them but they could understand his hatred towards them, his disgust. There was only one mutant in the world that he could stand but that one had long been gone from this world.

Brent didn't bother looking at any of them, the filthy animals, putting his head down as soon as he got a glance at what was in the room. He instead walked over to one of the benches sitting on the far end of it, he leaned forward putting his elbows on his knees and folding his hands together. His jaw clenched as he looked at the ground fury burning in his eyes hating every last one of them. Wondering slightly if any of them were close enough to come within his radius that they might figure out what he could do and hate him for it, too.

A thin, sour looking man entered the room. His sharp grey suit stood out abnormally against the typical white clad scientists.

"I believe we can now continue with the special training program."He said with a questioning glance at the professor, which was more of a nicety than asking for permission.

"Each of you will now be sorted into dormitories of three or four mutants to one separate apartment. When your name is called I expect you to line up in front of the second door."

He quickly waved his hand, causing the guards in the room to aim their weapons at the group in case of any disturbances. The scientists then went around placing small metal bands on each of the mutants wrists.

"And now the groups: Group one- Wraith, Esper, Reyna and Brent, Group two- Juniper, Druggie and Izaac and Group three- Hector, Matthaus and Ivan. Your apartments will join a common room, but you are not permitted in another groups apartment. If you try to enter you will be electrocuted. Hector, I would not suggest tampering with any of our measures, lest you're up to a bit of torture."

Without so much as a glance, he opened the second door to reveal a plain common room with a few simple metal tables and chairs. Three unmarked open doorways led to the apartments.

"It's your responsibility to figure out which is your apartment."

With a brisk nod from the man, the guards came forward to force the mutants into the room.

"How very interesting…"

Ember stiffened as she almost made it back to her seat. For a reason that she couldn't, or rather wouldn't, explain this irked her. Automatically auburn flooded into her irises and she spun round to face the long haired man.

"Isn't it just fascinating" she spat furiously, her voice hoarse from misuse.

She had a fairly distinct English accent and her tone was low. Abruptly she turned away from him and continued to her seat. As she did so, she uncurled her fisted hands, inwardly wincing. Her fingernails had left yet more bloody furrows in her palm. She had numerous semi-curved scars randomly distributed in the bed of her hand after an age old habit. At first she'd done it deliberately, reminding herself of each death, but now it had become instinctive and she had no control over it.

She was distracted from her damaged hands as another mutant was bought in. Immediately alarm bells rang. She remembered him well. Ember had been ordered to kill his brother in order to bring him back from a drowning. Honestly she wouldn't have remembered if it hadn't been his response- he'd attacked her. Ember could still remember his hands around her neck after he'd realised what she'd done. And she had been completely defenceless. For some reason she couldn't sense his breathing and nothing she could do would stop him. The guards had been forced to drag him off her, but she had angry red marks on her neck for days after.

Quickly Ember looked away. So far he obviously hadn't seen her, and she definitely preferred it that way. Her hands were shaking slightly, and once again her eyes changed to a light grey. Until he left Ember was sure they would remain that way. Perhaps his anger would have cooled slightly, but Ember knew from experience the death of someone close to you was not going to be forgotten nor forgiven.

As if things couldn't get any worse, the man with the grey suit entered. Ember's eyes widened with shock and horror at his announcement. Surely not! How was she supposed to cope? It had only be a quarter of an hour in here with the others at most and her emotions were already frayed and fragile at best. Nonetheless she didn't bother resisting as the thin metal band was jammed on her wrist.

'Group one- Wraith, Esper, Reyna and Brent'

She knew who Esper/Zero and Reyna were….but Brent? Suddenly she got a horrible feeling she knew who it was. From the previous scientist she knew Ivan was the brightly coloured twin of the boy she had just murdered and the younger boy they shot she couldn't remember his name, but she was sure it was not Brent. So it was out of the intelligent man with the glasses, the long haired man she'd snapped at or the one she feared. And from her luck thus far, Ember wasn't taking any chances.

As soon as they were bidden to go inside, she used the air to speed in, dangerously close to hitting one of the tables. Quickly looking at the three doors she realised she had one in three chance of being electrocuted. Still, if she managed to get into which ever apartment was hers quickly perhaps while the others attempted to avoid being zapped she'd have some privacy. Without pausing she tried running to the doorway directly in front.

Immediately after her banded left-wrist entered the doorway she let out a sharp scream as the electricity ran through her small frame. Automatically she found herself on the floor leaning against the nearest wall, her whole body shaking from the shock. She took in small gasped breaths trying to calm her racing heart. That was a lot stronger of a shock than she'd anticipated. Ember brushed aside one of her dark bangs from her eyes, her hand shaking violently. Terrified she realised she really didn't have the strength to try another doorway. Besides she had 50% chance of receiving the same treatment.

If he attacks me now I'm done for. After what I did to Isaac I doubt anyone's going to stop him now.

Azuma was following the rest of his group as they were transferring over to their apartments. He let himself trail towards the back of the group, allowing him to have an eye on each of the other individuals. Wraith, or more politely Ember, was one of the mutants he had kept constant tabs on. He knew her well enough to know that an eye should be kept on her at all times. Kitten, Reyna, was someone he couldn't relax around either, wincing as he remembered the blow he had received earlier. However, the third one troubled him the most. Azuma saw him a few times from afar with his projection, but could never get close. He knew relatively nothing about this Brent person and that made him quite uncomfortable.

It didn't take long for something to happen. In fact, he didn't think he'd seen anything go wrong that quickly. Ember had rushed forward and went straight for a door. Azuma saw it coming, the shock coursing through her body. He sped up a bit, being sure to give Reyna a wide berth as he passed her. However, when he walked by the other blond, Brent, he felt a sudden disconnect. He blinked with confusion as his vision suddenly melted into one timeline, the present. He glanced backwards at the other, eyes wide, while still making his way forward. Is this something to do with him..? He thought to himself. What ability is his...?

He continued his brisk pace forward towards the doors, but as soon as he stepped a bit farther from Brent, he felt a sudden rush in his head. It was like a brain freeze magnified by a few hundred times. He dropped to his knees, hands to his head, as his precognitive ability returned at full force. With a small exclamation of pain, he shakily attempted standing up only to drop back down to one knee.

Ivan & Isaac

"Legion

Ivan watched on in horror as the little girl, the one he had called ‘Kitten’, stood up and denounced the wretchedness of the current situation. By some means she had managed to stop both Ember and this eldritch abomination of a scientist. Not stop their intentions, but actually physically stop them. They seemed to freeze on the spot when she had spoken up. Still cut off from ‘Isaac’, at least mentally, all Ivan could speculate on was his clone’s intentions. There was clearly something more behind this, the pair had always been willing to make sacrifices before, but there was always something to be gained for it. The other two boys made their moves rapidly, one preparing to subdue the little heroine, and the other actually doing it.

Just as quickly as the whole bout of chaos had started, it was over. The boy had been taken down, Kitten returned to her seat, and the handsome one with glasses slunk back to the sidelines. Ivan understood Reyna’s unwillingness to see another suffer, and strangely enough he understood the viewpoints of the others too. One life, even if it was a part of his own, was not worth risking the lives of everyone else in this room. While all of this was going on Ivan continued to just stand in place, a consistent tremor moving through his body.

Then when Ember was in range of his clone, Ivan began to cry. Not large heaving sobs, and not silent stolen hidden tears either, just tears knowing that his companion was leaving. Over the years Ivan had made plenty of clones, some died, some were assimilated back in. He gained whatever knowledge they were able to, and suffered as they did. But ‘Isaac’ was different, that was his first clone, he never died, was never absorbed back into the fold. His parents had made a false birth certificate for Isaac, for the past five years Ivan had a twin.

Now, just as the Wraith was about to do her grisly work, Isaac looked back at Ivan. In that moment a thought occurred to the boy, and since Isaac suddenly put down the mental barrier, there was no doubt where it had come from. Isaac, totally calm in the face of his annihilation left one parting thought to the network of the hive-mind he had been connected to since splitting off from Ivan. ”Now, at least one of our deaths can mean something. Now we’ll learn something instead of the scientists who just loved killing off our clones. Now we can know how exactly it is that The Wraith executes.”

Ivan shuttered as the thought occurred to him. The tears stopped falling and he stopped shaking, now filled with no more regret, he found anxiety. Lighting another cigarette the boy watched in awe as Ember stole Isaac’s breath. He puffed on it as he felt the sensation of Isaac’s lungs collapsing into nothing. Now, just as color left Isaac and he fell to the ground one more thought occurred, one last fleeting idea. Soft as a whisper it trickled through Ivan’s mind, rocketing him back into tears, this time the large gasping kind.

Hardly with enough breath to take drags in between his overwhelming body shaking fit of tears. Ivan watched and accordingly proceeded as they were rounded up into groups, brought to a new place for them to stay, and told they would figure out their own living arrangements now. He watched as The Wraith made her wrong choice and received the punishment in the form of what appeared to be an incredible shock. He watched as the others reached the new room they were to be kept in. He observed all of this, silent aside from his now quieting sobs, but he was not concerned. His mind only had one thing on it currently. Isaac’s last thought, one word playing a continual loop. ”Brother.”

Reyna had only been giving half of her attention to the talking dogs, the other half was directed by sullenly rubbing the sore spot on her head and keeping as far away as possible from the albino with the perverted insight. A man in a gray pressed suit, carrying a metal suitcase with a sour expression to match went by and grabbed her hand, closing a chrome bracelet around it. "Wraith, Esper, Reyna, and Brent." Her attention snapped up with her name and she looked around to confirm that yes, she had been paired with two people that hated her the most and one that was glaring as though he wanted to light the world on fire. Cautiously she stood, glad that Esper was staying away from her and watched as Ember rushed into the room in the middle.

Her eyebrow twitched in annoyance. If they were group one, wouldn't it make the most sense for their room to be room 1? Therefore the doorway farthest to the right. In order to confirm her theory she stepped over Esper's fallen body, shooting a curious glance at the blonde whose hair was lighter then Zero's and into the common room. Taking a deep breath to prepare for the worst, Reyna entered the room on the right. Nothing, "Hey guys I found ours!" She called cheerfully and turned in a circle, trying to decide which bed she wanted. "I call this bed!" She flopped down onto the mattress in the top left corner, where the window would have been in her room back at home. It was a rather unremarkable space aside from the fact that there were no glass walls, but real, solid, gray ones. Instantly she sat up, looking around for the cameras. Two, three, five. Reyna counted; of course there would be no privacy, although at this point she had gotten used to it. They had seen every inch of her body naked, so why did it matter? There was nothing to hide.

Was this the first test? The Professor had made it sound so. How many more were to come? She assumed most weren't going to be this easy and logical. Reyna stood from the bed and went to go assist Ember and Esper who were still on the floor. "Do you need some help up?" She asked the Wraith, offering a hand. They were teammates now so she might as well try to get along.

After a few seconds on the ground, Azuma's headache had subsided. It was at that point when he noticed the brown haired girl stepping over him and into the rightmost room without receiving a shock. Soon after entering, the girl's voice could be heard, claiming one of the beds as her own. Following that she came back out and walked over to Ember, ready to help her. Of course, he didn't expect help from her anyways.

Getting up on his own, he glanced back at the other male, Brent. He still didn't know what to think of him or what his ability was. He was a blank and that bothered Azuma. He turned away and moved into the room that was deemed safe by Reyna. Looking at the beds, Azuma saw one a bit messed up and figured that it must be the one she had claimed for herself. Moving towards the other bunk, he placed his book on the bed and sat down. It wasn't as spacious as his older room, but that was to be expected.

With a sigh he stood back up and walked out to the other three who would be his roommates. "Well, it looks like two of the beds are spoken for. So, you don't have much choices anymore. Unless you have a complaint?"

JUNIPER

Juniper's current host looked up at her, resulting in the blind young woman in seeing her own face, the female hugging her looking with awe as she sat herself up. Resisting the urge to pry deeper to see why her companion seemed fascinated by her, Juniper left the girl's mind alone, scanning for another set of 'eyes' among the group. She once more settled on the well-presented male with glasses. As they sat, the feminine male spoke in what sounded like verse, his words cryptic. Juniper noticed with surprise that he turned his attention to her face musing about her as well. Despite using Hector as her 'eyes', she otherwise acted with her own body, tilting her head in confusion before she spoke softly. 'You speak in riddles...."

As the door opened once more, Juniper looked on with her host to see who else would appear, only to feel apprehension bubble inside her gut. A scientist with guards, and they were wearing protection from her. Weapons were aimed at her and the other mutants, making her go slightly stiffer. The look in the scientists eyes unnerved her, his demeanor sending chills down her spine. Without meaning to, she shrunk back into her hosts mind enough to see the current thoughts more clearly, silently agreeing with his assesment that the scientist was a monster in human skin.

She listened with growing unease as the voice from the scientist announced himself. Professor Killigira summoned forward two from their group, his words making Juniper's face go pale. They were going to make 'Wraith' kill one of them? As her host looked over at the brightly colored Issac, she shook her head slowly, wishing it wasn't so. The boy was walking towards his own execution, with his twin watching no less! How sadistic and cruel could these people even be?

'Kitten's' voice called out, the scientist and 'Wraith' stopped in their tracks. Her host warned 'Kitten' of her potential demise, confirming that the sweet -faced girl was stopping the two. As much as Juniper hated it, she couldn't think of any suggestion to make the scientist permanently stop. Controlling a person could only go on so long...right? In the back of her mind, she wondered if she was obsolete as well, if someone besides her could stop a person.

As Kitten and another mutant fought, Juniper felt her gut knot up in a sickening dread. This wasn't going to end well, and she could think of no way to stop it. The argument ended as quickly as it started, the harsh words accusing the young blonde male of being responsible for Issac dying. IT seemed unfair to say such a thing, especially since she doubted he had any ill will towards the mutant.

AS her host looked up, Juniper bit her lip as she watched the 'Wraith' stand before the brightly colored male, silently killing him. She had never actually seen a death before, and it made a cold chill go down her spine, feeling like her own stomach dropped upon hearing the thud of his body hitting the ground. It was a sickeningly final sound, and Juniper let blackness take her vision, deciding it unkind to keep looking and lingering in the others. She wondered if it bothered 'Wraith' at all to be made to do this. IT was hard to tell, the woman giving no indication, and Juniper chose not to look. The sound of crying met her ears, the woman turning a gentle, sorrowful look towards the sound. The poor young man, having to see his twin killed like that. She would have spoken secretly in his mind, but she thought it would be insensitive for now.

Soon, the sound of new footsteps reached her ears, guns being raised, new instructions. As she scanned the newest arrival, she was surprised to find that while she could 'see', the thoughts and vision faded in and out, the foremost thoughts in the mind coming to her in fragments. Were they wearing a defective lead helmet? Utilizing Hector as her eyes once more, she looked at the newest mutant, surprised to find he looked as normal as any of them. How come she couldn't see clearly with him?

Her thoughts were interrupted upon hearing her name, the woman surprised they bothered to know it at all. She flinched at the cold metal band snapped around her wrist, looking up blankly as she was instructed along with the others to 'find' her room. A gun pushed into her back, nudging her impatiently and startling her enough to break her connection to her current 'eyes'. A scream could be heard from ahead, and it was her only clue in the darkness of where to put her feet.

Find the room? She searched the minds as she stood, walking forward and nearly bumping into a table in the next room. One was still hard to read, but she tried to gain clues from each mind as to who were 'Druggie' and "Iziah', thus, learning who to follow and whose mind to look at for now.

In a place like this, mystery was an element that was present everywhere. The scientists were elusive and hid their secretes well. The guards weren't the talkative type unless it was provocative or calling a name. And apparently, there was more to this building than Matthaus new about. So he thought it was fair if he spoke in riddles and rhymes. If he didn't have any freedom, it was verbal freedom.

But this part of the facility... It had to be new. Last time he walked around, it wasn't there before. He could have swore.

Most mutants chose not to respond to his self description of each of the mutants, whether it was a simply greeting or if it was a small poem. But one did respond, which resulted in Mathaus turning around, with his arms crossed to look at them. It was one of the girls he recited for. The soft spoken blind one. 'You speak in riddles...."

He watcher her for a few moments with s smirk, observing the dome of her head swirl in dark orange and even specks of red. Very active brain, no? Matthaus slowly turned back around, his not soft blue gaze looking at each of the mutants once again. Yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow...

Orange.

His eyes stopped once he got to Hector. He watched for another moment, peering at his glasses and suit, still wondering why such attire in this setting would be preferred. But, eventually, he smiled softly, tilting his head slightly. It wasn't like he previous smiles, where his chin was tipped town, creating elusive shadows across his face. It was just a plain, simple smile. "How kind of you to notice." He spoke with said smile.

But then the situation with Isaac went ahead.

It wasn't apparent that Wraith ever gave any care into her actions. At first she simply walked away from the corpse that she just dismissed from life. But his mumbled words were enough for her to hear, and she responded. "Isn't it just fascinating." Her voice was full of anger which was made obvious. But that didn't dismiss the sickness of it. It was hoarse and harsh. She wasn't sick. The scientists wouldn't let someone be sick...

Matthaus turned his eyes away from his hands which fidgeted with his own, thin fingers. His eyes squinted at the yellow and orange blob before him. But he smirked once more,"Yes. How fascinating. "

This group was obviously here for a reason. They all were either too broken to protest or too traumatized not too. The man could almost feel the despair radiating off the group, which brought more questions up into Matthaus' head.

What exactly is this special training... and why were these mutants chosen?

Though, with the scientists still here, there wasn't much time to contemplate the answer. A metal band was placed on his boney wrist, cooling the yellow around it to a soft green. Everyone got one apparently and it was explained to them they would be grouped together in dormitories. Dorm roommates. Another interesting question. His group was Hector, Ivan, and himself. It was apparent to Matthaus why Ivan was in his room. Matthaus was flexible. Ivan could produce copies of himself. But it wasn't until several seconds later did Matthaus realize why Hector was in their group.

Electrocution. Don't tamper with the equipment. It was obvious now. Matthaus didn't realize it, but he found himself grinning over at the man with this realization.

They all had bodily abilities.

The entire group was pushed into the room next door. The door closed behind them and there were tables aligned in rows. "Is this some sort of lunch room?" The man questioned to the air, not expecting any sort of answer. It reminded him of a lunch room. But there wasn't any time to waste. The faster he found his group's room, the less people would get hurt.

Briskly walking over to the first room, to his left, Matthaus peered in. Ordinary cell. Three beds. He peered in to the next one, the door directly in front of the way they entered. Ordinary cell. Three beds. Then the last one, to the right. Ordinary cell.Three beds.

Waling towards the first room, crossing his arms, he starred at the plain, boring room. Everything was plain, but relatively clean, The reflection of the light from the 'lunch room' shining softly on the floor. He starred some more.

He moved on.

He came to the second one and stopped in front of it. It obviously wasn't Wraith's room. She tested it. He starred at the floor. The light peered in, shining dully onto the floor. He starred for a few more moments. "Hey guys I've found ours!" Matthaus glanced over. The young girl had found hers. Wraith's group. That leave's out that room. The man looked back at the floor within the room.

The light shined dully on the floor.

"Hector. Ivan." Matthaus called before he turned around. "Found ours." To prove it, he took a few steps back to enter the room.

Hector closed his eyes for a brief moment at the young female's words. Hector knew about killing. He felt the guilt of murder, before. He always considered it a necessary cost for the mission at hand. He had decided that his current directive was to make sure as few people got hurt as possible during this special training. So far, with the guard collapsing and one of the twins getting killed by Wraith, things were not going as planned.

Not that Hector had a plan. He often disliked making a plan from the beginning and following it. It was better to steer, than to chart a course and stick with it. The best way to put it is that Hector made plans, but plans change. The situation changed. Things change, and Hector had to anticipate how, and flow with it.

Right now, the change was the thin device placed on his wrist.

An electric device? The first thing in Hector's mind was to make a mental note to disarm it, before he heard why he shouldn't. Torture. Hector had been tortured before. The memory of torture was not one from within the facility. Before that.

Hector closed his eyes again, and let the memory fade, as he observed the blonde newcomer. When Hector and the newcomer got close, Hector felt a very off feeling. As if a relatively light electric pulse was coursing through his body, and the feeling was most intense at the front of his body. Without a word, Hector leaped backwards as quickly as he could. The feeling subsided. Hector had felt an electric current running lightly through his body before, but this time, he realized what it was.

That newcomer. When Hector was near him, he felt an odd feeling on the parts of his body that were closest to the newcomer. Hector had a theory: The newcomer could cancel powers, and was able to cancel the electricity being stored in the front of Hector's body. This caused the electricity in the back of his body to spread to the front, to make up for the electricity lost. Hector's resistance to electricity that conducts through his own body was lost, for a part of his body. that is why Hector felt the electricity as if he was being shocked.

That was it. This newcomer could cancel powers. This was dangerous, especially if he was able to cancel Hector's powers only partially at that moment. The result was Hector's electricity conducting through him. If he cut off someone's powers in the right way, he would be able to turn their powers against them.

And the glare in his eyes seemed to convey anger.

Hector would probably have to be wary of this one, too. Hector began to wonder who he wasn't wary of when he turned to the source of electricity he felt.

It looks like Wraith entered the wrong room. For being electrocuted, she seemed to have taken the pain somewhat well, assuming this is the first time she was electrocuted with such a large shock, for the purpose this shock was for. For simply entering the wrong room, too...

Hector turned at glared at the scientist who gave those rules. Hector's bio-luminescent eyes carried a slight twinge of anger. But just enough to convey a message, given the glare occurred after the shock: You should be glad that I can't harm you right now. When I do harm you, I'll make sure to leave nothing left, you wolf.

And with that, Hector turned back to the doors. The best plan, as evidenced by Wraith, was to wait for someone else to go first. He couldn't use his powers to tell, since there could be any number of counter-measures for that. Not necessarily painful ones, but definitely ones to prevent Hector from knowing which door belonged to which person. Hector tried again, looking around him, seeing the EM currents.

They were overly complicated, and purposefully difficult to read. And they were being switched with different currents the whole time on a seemingly random cycle that Hector saw no repeats of yet, and no correlation between. Simply put, it was impossible to predict which would be which. At least, for a human who didn't have the brain of a supercomputer.

Hector was close to a super-computer, but he wasn't one.

When the young female had landed on her bed, he had come to know how she was like a kitten even more. And Hector knew one of the rooms that weren't his. When Matthaus stepped forward, he watched. This was the moment to decide whether this was the right room or not. Hopefully, Matthaus would not mind a shock if something bad happened. If his heart stopped or entered tachycardia, Hector could resuscitate him with his own electricity. Hector walked forward behind Matthaus and removed his glasses, ready for action.

Brent

Instruction were being belted out but Brent paid little attention to them lifting up his wrist when the guard came around to slap the bracelet that was way out of season. But then something the scientist said made him stop, there was something he said that stood out to Brent as important a name... Wraith. The bane of his existence the reason for all his hatred all his anger, Brent stood up abruptly head still bowed, things were moving, people were glancing warily in his direction people were noticing a difference around him. But he didn't care, it was all meaningless to him the only thing he cared about was revenge.

When Brent turned around he saw two motionless bodies on the ground it was obvious to Brent how they got there. One of the bodies, a female, had a bracelet on it and was being dragged into the common room where everyone else was going, Brent assumed that one could heal itself so he wasn't too bothered by it but there was still another of the floor lying dead. It was all he could do to control his anger, wondering now how many she had killed and how many more she would before she was put down, he made a pact right there that he would keep anymore needless carnage from happening.

He scanned the room she wasn't there obviously she had already made her way into the common room, but it didn't matter they shared the same room so there was no where for her to hide. A grin crossed the young mans face as he turned toward the doorway to the next room over slowly walking towards it, his eyes were drawn to her dark hair and pale skin. Painfully slowly he made his way over to her calm as the sea, when he got to her Brent kneeled down into a crouching position staring at her with his icy blue glare, like daggers. She looked afraid, she should be.

"Hello, I'm guessing you remember who I am, cause I remember you. Don't worry I'm not going to hurt you but I swear if you kill any of these people, if that's even what they are, then I promise you I will finish what I started two years ago," Brent reached out with one hand pulling it out of her face to the rest of her dark hair continuing to glare fiercely. It took all of his self control not to just kill her right then, "And I'll do it as cold and emotionless as you did to him, my dear brother."

With this he forced a smile, stood up and walked into the room on the right and laying down on the on the far right facing the wall.

Druggie
Image

Things were moving, but why? Arms. Druggie moved her attention to her arms which were being pulled by more arms, oh yea. But why was it so bright? Lights. Head flopped to one side looking up at a non-floor, ooooh yea. Suddenly the lights got a lot dimmer her world had changed color from white to grey, would it turn black soon? Heck if I know. Druggie frown the next second her face became best friends with the floor and it hurt, the frown deepened. Figuring the worst, the worst being under attack, Druggie decided it be best to take cover so she crawled over to the nearest table and curled up under it hugging her chest.

Everything was moving so quickly and a lot of it she couldn't understand, this wasn't her normal routine this wasn't what she was used to and the truth was that she was feeling a bit scared. All she could ever do was whatever anyone made her do and now that no one was making her do anything she wasn't sure what to do with herself. All she could do was hide and stare blankly off into nothing waiting for the next pull or push from whatever unfamiliar hands that came from the fog around her vision keeping her from seeing things clearly. But for now everything was grey, everything was so grey.

From her position on the floor Ember watched with growing apprehension as the others came into the common room. She saw Zero begin to rush towards her before falling to the floor. That was when she realised it was Brent. Something about his unsettling cancellation of mutations had caused Zero to collapse. She quickly observed Brent and realised with a shudder that he was looking around. For her. She immediately averted her gaze in vain effort to remain undetected as Reyna declared she'd found the room. After which the young girl came over offering her help and hand.

Ember was about to announce that she was fine, when she saw Brent slowly making his way towards her. Her face drained of colour and Reyna was quickly forgotten. He had a savage smile on his face, and instinctively Ember tried to shuffle backwards only to smash her back against the wall.

Zero called something out from the room, but neither Brent nor Ember responded. As she was enveloped by Brent's own strange mutation she felt her sixth sense desert her and the air was no longer tangible. Distantly she couldn't help but feel relief at the strange feeling. To have no control over life or death, nor to be tempted by the demanding call of the air. Her thoughts were torn from her as Brent suddenly stood over her. Terrified, she tried to keep her expression blank but her eyes were wide and pale and her breaths were coming quick and sharp.

He knelt in front of her causing her to freeze in front of his murderous gaze.

"Hello, I'm guessing you remember who I am, cause I remember you. Don’t worry I'm not going to hurt you…"

Ember didn't believe it for a second. She'd been told that by so many people and none of them kept their word. Beside, his crystal blue eyes said otherwise.

"…but I swear if you kill any of these people, if that's even what they are, then I promise you I will finish what I started two years ago."

His hand suddenly came towards her and she flinched expecting a blow. Instead he moved one of her dark bangs out of her eyes. She would have slapped his hand away if she had any doubt that he would not kill her in retaliation. She could tell he was barely restraining himself, so she held her breath waiting.

"And I'll do it as cold and emotionless as you did to him; my dear brother."

Ember felt numb as he got up and left her. The air once more became a power she could wield and she felt it's weight upon her shoulders. She closed her eyes and leant her head against the wall, trying desperately to keep herself together. She didn't hate Brent. She understood. If she ever got the chance to harm the scientists that had been instrumental in Mia's death, nothing would save them.

Mia. An involuntary tremor ran through her body as she felt the regret of the last two years bubble to the surface. She clenched her fists, re-opening her wounds, as she tried to stop the sudden rush of her numerous victims. After a few seconds she managed to shut down her thoughts. Everyone died. She was merely an instrument to be used by the scientists. There was no point in guilt. How was she supposed to resist even if she wanted to? Besides, as some point it would be her turn to go anyway.

Two guards suddenly burst into the common room. A brunette immediately went to pull Druggie out from under the table. To ensure her co-operation a piece of stale bread was shoved in her palms. The other young man immediately shoved the butt of his gun to the back of Juniper's neck.

"Move mutant." He hissed into her ear shoving her forward.

Both girls were shoved out of the common room. As they left, the guard behind Juniper began to relay his instructions.

"Mole- you are going to control Druggie here. You will prevent her from escaping or causing any disruptions. If at anytime we sense you will loosen control on her, you will be tortured. If that isn't enough, we'll slaughter Druggie in front of you. Despite you not being able to see, I am certain you will be able to hear her scream. Is that clear?"

He shook the girl in front of him while waiting for his response. And the four continued down the halls to one of the experimental room to start the process of destroying Druggie's freedom and awaiting her release from her hallucinations.

As soon as the two girls were removed, some guards entered the common room with a box filled with stale bread. One for each mutant. It was dumped on the table and left for rest to help themselves.

JUNIPER

About to try and attempt to find the room she'd be staying in, Juniper's efforts were rudely interrupted by an all to familiar feel of a gun pressed against her back. The hiss in her ear earned a flinch, but nevertheless, the blind woman complied with the order, walking where directed by the guard. Again, they wore the lead headgear that protected them from her manipulation.

His words earned a shiver, the telepath biting her lip. They wanted her to control someone. Of course, she knew they'd make her do it again at some point. The usual feeling of guilt and unease settled in her stomach, her hands shaking slightly. She hated to control another human being. Being inside their minds and reading them was one thing, but to physically or mentally control someone against their will left her feeling like she had swallowed a pound of lead.

But the threats worked. To be the reason for someone's death was unfathomable to her, and she didn't want to ever learn what it felt like to have someone killed not only in front of you, but because of you. Even worse, she hated herself for being afraid of the torture, of being afraid to stand up and say she couldn't. If it meant she could save her victim and herself, Juniper would comply in spite of her reservations. And they knew it.

"Understood..." she finally murmured with a nod of her head, prompted to reply with another nudge of the gun.

Reyna didn't know what to do, the new kid, whatever his name was, began to bully Ember almost as soon as he was within her hearing range. They were supposed to be working together, but already their team was falling apart. It was then that the guards came in, the Professor that had introduced this whole thing stood in the doorway as the guards organized around the mutants in order to gather the group. "We're going to start with a little exercise to help... Inspire teamwork. None of you will be allowed to use your mutations, this activity is knowledge based and if you are caught using your ability, your whole team will be punished. Understand?" The room had gone silent, Reyna shifted nervously in the corner she was standing in. Blood manipulation and minor transformation was of second nature; asking her to not use it was like blind folding her and requesting that she find her way home from school.

"Group one, your first exercise will be in lab seven. Group two, yours will be in lab nine, and Group three will be in lab 2." Lab seven; panic struck her once more as she realized what room that was. The maze, the one that zapped your feet if you didn't move fast enough and had traps around every corner. Her breathing became a bit ragged and she sunk against the wall; because Reyna was still young her abilities were harder to control and unintentionally a set of fuzzy kitten ears poked out from beneath her mane of brown hair (now you know where she gets the nickname from) this happened nearly every time her heart rate went above a certain level.

One of the Professor's lap dogs closest to the girl grabbed her by the elbow and pulled Reyna to her feet, pushing her forward and out of the room along with the others. Ember, Esper, and what was his name... Brent? They were her teammates; or so she had thought until Reyna was led down a completely different hall from them. Ivan and Matthaus, the creepy one that spoke in riddles were in the same room as her. "I will not be a burden," The girl whispered to herself, stumbling along on bare feet over the cold tile towards lab seven. The door opened and she was shoved inside with the other three. It was the prep room for the maze; okay this was familiar. Reyna instantly went to sit in the corner, attempting to lower her heart rate. Instead a tail popped out.

The sound of boots on the tiled floor caused Ember's eyes to fly open and her dark thoughts vanished like smoke drawn between the cracks of her mind. Automatically autopilot was in place as she quickly analysed the situation and decided upon the least troublesome response. So apparently they were all in for more testing. No surprises there. The problem was the groups. While Brent didn't appear to want to murder her in cold blood unless she provoked him, in a test 'accidents' would be fairly easy to arrange. Therefore not only would she be trying to minimise pain, but also ensuring that Brent had no easy way to dispose or otherwise harm her indirectly.

And then they mentioned the room numbers. Ember scowled- all entrances to the maze. She would know after them all trying to get her to speed through them like some of the other mutants could. Too bad air manipulation didn't allow her any enhanced physical abilities to allow better reflexes. Well that was one upside- it looked as though using her mutation was not going to be much of an issue. That aside, Brent would stop any of her teams abilities….

She blinked startled as she had a sudden idea, though it had to be brushed back into her head as she was forced to stand in order to prevent anyone grabbing her. Due to her compliance, none of the guards had really needed to man-handle her for a while and she did everything she could to keep it that way. Still feeling none too strong from the doorway incident, Ember shakily got to her feet shying away from one of the guards that came towards her. Quickly showing submission she followed behind Bent as he was lead out of their room. One upside of Brent's presence was that there was no need to mask her. As soon as she was reasonably close her mutation melted away leaving her feeling vulnerable but altogether normal. It reminded her of her previous thoughts. As soon as they got to the entryway of the maze she'd ask him, even if it meant risking another undesirable encounter.

Surprised she watched as Reyna was taken to a different path. Her brow furrowed, but she made no protest as the suited man was brought down the same hallway as herself. It appeared they had different groups for this. She grimaced- and of course they'd left her with Brent. She attempted to inconspicuously assess the man beside her, giving up her attempt at no specifications. If she was going to be forced to live with these people, remaining ignorant for the sake of her conscience was going to do more harm than good. He seemed intelligent, and he obviously was rational and not ruled by emotion as seen in his response to the execution earlier. His eyes glowed an eerie blue and Ember could get no sense of what sort of abilities the man possessed. As of now, Ember saw him as a threat. Not imminent, but there was enough about him that she didn't know, and from what she had guessed at his intellect, he would make a dangerous enemy. An alliance was out of the question due to her history and personality, so the best she could hope for was a lack of animosity.

Once they were in the room, she focused immediately on her previous plan involving Brent. From her history with him she knew he was capable of cancelling mutations in his presence. What she didn't know was how for his abilities worked. Could he specify who he targeted? And more importantly, in her case, could he remove these mutations permanently?

Making sure she was a reasonably safe distance away from him, she turned to face him.

"Can you permanently remove mutations?" While her expression did not change, her eyes stared at him unwavering and there was no hiding the hint of pleading in her voice.

The guard grinned at Juniper's nod and verbal compliance. By now the others would not be too far behind, so all that was left to do was to deliver these two to the planned experimental chamber. He certainly didn't envy this particular group. From the looks of it they'd have to tow along the intoxicated girl and they had another who would be unable to see the imminent dangers that were sure to be present. It seemed that seemingly immortal kid would be the most able-bodied out of all of them.

As they finally made the last corner, he shoved Juniper through the door and ensured his partner did the same with the high one. Before leaving, he made sure Juniper would not forget her previous compliance.

"Just a friendly reminder…" he began with an altogether unfriendly tone "If at any point we get even the slightest hint that you are not ensuring the girls full co-operation, we have no qualms in gunning the both of you down. And that's if we are feeling hospitable at the time."

With that he slammed the door shut, whistling as he continued down the hall to complete his remaining duties.

Hector took the piece of bread available to him. He knew about survival. It didn't matter what reservations one had about food. If they wanted to survive, then food was necessary, despite how stale it was. Food was food. This was delicious compared to the unsavory things Hector had eaten before.

The blonde newcomer, Brent, was far more worrying to Hector than Wraith was, at the moment. Wraith was unscrupulous when it came to what the scientists required of her. Hector considered himself somewhat lucky that he had never had to be coerced to do something bybWraith. That situation would end badly, with either him, her, or both of them dead. Possibly even with some scientists or guards nearby dying as well. Death was something that should be avoided. If it should not have been avoided, then Hector may very well have killed himself before without much of a fuss. But, survival was the name of the game. And Wraith knew how to survive. Hector didn't see why theyvcouldn't work together.

But Brent was a murderous dog. Hector understood revenge, but he didn't approve of it. His expwrience showed him that revenge was, ultimately, unsatisfying. It would never let the anger go away. If someone ever goes on a quest for revenge, as the saying goes, that person must dig two graves, not one. And with Brent's powers able to negate the powers of others, Hector knew that Wraith was defenseless, and that he himself would likely be electrocuted by his own electricity before he could get close enough to subdue Brent physically, should Brent ever try to be violent. This was problematic.

Hector opened the door leading to their first test. It seemed to be a labyrinth, of sorts. To keep everyone nearby from killing each other, a maze may end up becoming the worst terrain for Hector. The twists and turns could easily result in Hector being ambushed. Hector would often know the most clever places that he could be ambushed, but in a maze, that creativity didn't matter. An ambush could come only from behind corridors, but there were enough corridors that anyone, even Hector, could be easily caught off guard.

Hector's thoughts were interrupted by Wraith's question towards Brent. This was...unprecedented. Hector had been going throught the motions for long enough that he did not even consider whether losing his powers was an option. Why would Wraith want to get rid of her powers? She must have had her reasons. Hector mulled the idea of losing his own powers around in his head, before he remembered the soldier's weapons. They would have to enter the maze. Hector turned to the two he was to enter the maze with.

He had no idea if he could trust either of them, but it was important that he keep the option of an alliance open.

"We should enter the maze, and perhaps avoid more abuse from the guards."

JUNIPER

Hoping this would be the end of having to talk to her captors for now, Juniper didn't protest as she was led along with the other female, scanning for the guards' minds but coming up with nothing as they wore the lead headgear. She lingered in the edge of "Druggie's" mind, dreading the upcoming order in which she would be controlling the fellow mutant. She sent a silent apology over to the girl, inwardly deciding she'd do her best to not invade any more than necessary.

Unceremoniously shoved into a new room, Juniper let out a soft gasp at the sudden push on her back before straightening up. No sooner had she done so when the cool, unkind voice reiterated the threat from before, adding on a possible consequence for any failure to comply. Juniper nodded again, not knowing if they were looking at her or not. The slamming of the door earned a flinch, and the blind mutant clung desperately to her partner's mind in order to keep them both safe, and in hopes of being able to see and navigate her surroundings as needed. She felt uneasy, wondering what sick game or torturous experiment the scientists would subject her and her fellow mutant to.
