Personality

Thomas is a just man. He likes to hear all sides of the story before he passes judgment, and he hates background smear campaigns. You got something to say, say it to his face. He’s not one for orchestrating grand conspiracies, and he hates living in the shadows. He likes to be straightforward, mindful, and honest.

That is not to undercut his cunning and intelligence, however. He is perfectly capable of convincing others to his side. In fact, he is a born-charmer; without exception he has always gotten what he wanted just by the sparkle in his eye and the grit in his teeth. He can plan ahead for ten years in the future, but prefers to throw caution to the wind for the next 10 minutes.

He’s a family man, through and through, and he let’s no one – NO ONE – mess with his family. He will sacrifice everything he owns, he aspires to own, or was supposed to own for his family, and he will die before he let’s anyone or anything lay a finger on any of his babies. He doesn’t like to label himself as anything other than “man”, believing sexual orientations are too constrictive. But he’s fair and equal; man or woman, adult or child, everyone has equal say, everyone has their own self-worth, and everyone is beautiful.

Image

He does have his faults, of course. Oftentimes, his temper gets the best of him, and he will make rash decisions at the drop of the hat, often endangering his family or hampering their prosperity. He’s gotten better over the years, but when he was young, he would go out partying and end up in county jail
 quite often.

He is passionate, determined and just; between his lucrative ranching and politicking, and his family’s easy but gradual integration into the community, he wont let anyone strong-arm them into hiding any longer.

History

Image

Thomas Robert Lorraine was born in Square City, USA to an immigrant French father and Irish mother. Thomas never knew of the polygamist lifestyle, living in an urban setting and growing up being strict Catholics. Thomas’s family was so Catholic, they refused to go to a Mass in English and said all their prayers in Latin. Occaisionally, though, Thomas’s family would have a neighborhood cookout in the street, and he’d see all the kids and all the neighbors. It always felt like everyone was family. He liked that, he liked having a large family

Thomas went to a prestigious Catholic high school, St. Monica’s Science Academy, where he refined his Catholic faith. Never much a stick in the mud, Thomas almost got expelled for his upbeat and charismatic mannerisms. In his senior year, he was such a partier, he was nearly stricken as Student Body President, but his father visited the Dean and threatened his life.

Originally intending to become a priest, Thomas attended the seminary in Round Town, and wasn’t particularly impressed at first. The quietness and serenity wasn’t for him. But he graduated, found a job in the city, and that’s how he started his family

Image

Ten years ago, his wives and husband decided that the Big City didn’t have enough room for their growing family and so they packed up and headed for Round Town, buying out an old homestead near the base of Curvy River.

Paraphernalia/Memorabilia

Image
Cat – “Julius”
Thomas’s Turkish Water Cat, Julius, was a gift from an old colleague of his back in the city. Julius usually roams the manor house or sneaks out and hunts wild kangaroo-rats. When Thomas is sitting on his chair, Julius is right there on his lap, purring up a storm.

Image
Wolf-Dog – “Quick”
Quick was a rescue dog from a nearby shelter. The one-year old wolf-dog is a little ditzy sometimes, but he is deathly loyal to Thomas and NEVER leaves his sight.

Image
Shire Horse – “Majesty”
Majesty is a spectacular Shire stallion that Thomas won years back in a poker game. At first the two hated each other, but after awhile they have learned to love and trust each other, riding about the homestead and gazing about from on high.

Image
Edsel
Thomas’s baby, his 1959 black Edsel Villager.

Image
Breviary
Thomas’s breviary, with which he rigorously and privately prays the daily Divine Office.

Chapter I

The small American village of Round Town, USA was all quiet, the hazy, black blanket of night reaching over the citizens as they slept. And through the snore of a passing thundercloud, and beyond the woeful chirps of the midnight crawlers, lay the grumblings of a sleeping giant. Round Town had been a bustling, yet calm bastion of more reserved folk, with its white picket fences and rambling rose. The town was half Catholic and half Protestant, though it was 100% Christian, and almost every townsperson was a churchperson as well. Morality dominated the governance of the town, and every town mandate was an extension of church mandate. The church seemed rather placid, despite having two largely “enthusiastic” factions. Ten years ago, that changed.

The Lorraines stopped in to have a bite one day, and Thomas fell instantly in love; it was just what he wanted for the kids, for his wives and husband. Square City was all asunder between immorality, lack of spirituality, crime and civic corruption. Yes, the Lorraines found a large property, Rosefield, built their houses, and stayed to themselves for a few good years, raising their children and making money between the ranch and their own individual merits. The town’s opportunities were innumerable and rich.

About three years ago, Thomas decided it was time to give back, and (with the consent of his spouses) declared his intention to run for the town council. His charismatic family-centeredness and refreshing dialogue earned him a landslide victory. Yes, the Lorraines were becoming valued members of the community and seemed to live in peaceful providence between the secrecy of their group marriage and the respect that they had earned.

But problems loomed ahead, and with Thomas’s bid for the mayorship, the family knew they were at the end of their peace. Yes, with kids going out to college soon, one already in, and the clan growing

But for now, the Lorraines were asleep. It was Saturday morning, way before daybreak, and as the hummingbirds began to wake and the bugs began to crawl back into their dens, the Lorraines slept away. One Lorraine, however, was early to rise

Thomas’s Perspective

Thomas rolled awake, alone in his bed. Through the silky sheets, Thomas attempted to grasp a deep breathe before yawning and throwing the sleep off his eyes. He was alone tonight, like he was alone every Friday night; each spouse had a day and night with him. Friday night was his own night, in the main Lorraine manor.

Through the curtains of the oak-framed bed, Thomas stumbled to meet the morning, his eyes still shut. Wrenching back and extending his hands like a crane, a deep yawn escaped him. The Lorraine Manor was cold at night, quiet and lonely. Occasionally, it’s various rooms were used by children who wanted to stay in their father’s house, or by visiting kinfolk, or by really whoever requested a room. Otherwise, the manor was no more than an activity center for the family, with large kitchen and various rooms for whatever.
Thomas peeked through his achy left eye over down to his alarm clock – 3 AM. Perfect. He still had enough to time to throw on his pitt-clothes and rush down to the smoker; he had it installed the first year the family moved to Rosefield, large enough to cook about seven briskets at a time and still enough room to cook sausages, potatoes and just about anything. Today, Thomas was cooking his particularly favorite of peppered brisket. Taking anywhere from five to twelve hours, family barbeque was a morning that had taken much toll on his body.

Sighing, Thomas threw a third brisket up on the shelf of his smoker, the sweet meaty juices of caramelized meat escaping forth from the hatch. Thomas always used oak and apple wood to make a particularly distinct taste in his meat, something he learned from his own father. They would spend hours in the backyard, just talking over the smoke and havin’ a man-to-man. That was way back when life was simpler for Thomas. Only him, his brother, his father and his mother. They would go on down to Church every Sunday, but his family were never terribly religious. Certainly, however, they probably wouldn’t have approved of Thomas’s lifestyle.

Some of the family probably wouldn’t be too concerned with eating meat later today, but that was alright. His family was diverse in everyway, and that was what he loved about it. He himself was more conservative, but many of his spouses were more youthful and less-reserved. Never forgetting each wedding, Thomas stood and contemplated as he waited for the brisket to slowly cook. The girls would be down later to start on breakfast and what not

Miranda’s Perspective

Miranda was laying in her queen size bed sleeping pretty peacefully when she was awoken by her alarm going off. Looking over to alarm, 6:00 am, it read, reaching over she turned the alarm off and swung her legs off to the side of the bed and sitting up. Reaching down to the floor she grabbed her slippers and put them on her feet before standing up and making her bed, pulling to cover in and tucking in the edges then putting the five pillows up near the head board, she smoothed it over before going over to her dresser. Knowing it was the family barbeque today she wanted to wear something nice but also comfortable. Opening her bottom drawer she picked out a pair of white shorts, then opened her middle dresser drawer and found a light purple, dressy tank top, and also grabbed her undergarments. She laid the clothes on her bed then headed to the bathroom connected to her room and went to take a nice warm shower to help wake her up.

After her shower she went back into her room and got dressed, she put a pair of earrings in and then brushed her hair out, leaving it down she was now ready to get breakfast started. Going through the house she made sure everything was picked up, Miranda’s house was a bit smaller then the others only 3 bedrooms and 2 bath. But it was big enough for her and Damien and maybe someday another child. Thinking of this made her frown a little, she still needed/wanted to talk to Thomas about having another child, but she wasn’t sure if she was ready. As she walked down the hallway she opened Damien’s door quietly to check on him, seeing he was still sleeping, she closed the door slowly and made her way downstairs. Going to the living room she went to Toley’s crate and let her out “Hey pretty girl you hungry?” she spoke to the puppy, kneeling down she gave the husky a nice scratch then went to the kitchen and dished out some dog food and put some water in a bowl. As she waited for Toley to be done eating she went through the house picking up anything that was out of order then went back to the kitchen, she put on her sandals and went outside with Toley following her.

Walking to the main manor wasn’t really a far walk, since all the houses where next to each other, it was like their own community. She watched as Toley started running around her, she smiled, the pup was sure a handful but she loved the dog so much. She was quite surprised when Thomas came into the house holding the puppy out to her. Reaching the manor she opened the door and let Toley inside, she already had a feeling Thomas was up and awake and doing something around the house. Going right to the kitchen she opened the fridge and grabbed the eggs and milk and then started working on breakfast for everyone.

Damien's Perspective

Damien had woke up and grabbed his sketch book, he had a ton of sketch books and when he drew on every page he would just grab another one and continue with his imagination. Looking for his pencil he got up out of bed and looked under it, searching for the missing utensil. As he searched under the bed he had just remembered that his families barbecue. Sighing as he grabbed the pencil and sat on the floor and started drawing, he would usually start drawing and would draw all day if you'd let him. But, of head not drawing he's writing and he would never go with out those things. He usually carried them in a backpack and never lets anyone touch his backpack or looks at his writings in drawings. Those who ever did just caught him off god but, he never really trust others with his stuff. It might seem like paper to other people but, to him it's more. That's why he never shows anyone his drawings or writings. As he was in his creative mode he would switch his pencil with a different one. Some pencils where very thin or very thick and he usually used the thin ones for smaller objects or when he was drawing someone's hair, they would be more difficult to draw. The thicker ones would usually be for the more bigger and easier for him to draw. As he was drawing he soon got finished in 10 minutes getting up of the floor, his legs were a sleep from sitting on them so long he wiggled each leg until he got rid of the tingling feeling in them. Remembering the barbecue again, he put his book in his back pack, he took a 20 minute shower and put on a fresh set of clothes. It wasn't really dressy just casual, he would always wear something casual even if someone told him to wear something different. Which he doesn't mind, only if it's an important event.

Opening his bedroom door he grabbed the easy to carry travel backpack and put it on. Closing his door he looked up at the do not disturb sign on his door, and walked to the kitchen of the house. His mother probably already left to go to visit his father. Deciding to just walk outside and taking in the fresh air of outside, he didn't care how far he went or how long he would be out. Closing and locking the door behind him, he started walking to whatever he wanted to walk to. As he walked passed familiar houses, he sat down on the steps of where the rest of the family was suppose to come to, to have a barbecue. Sighing again as he imagined how miserable he would feel and look when the barbecue started. Taking out his sketch book, he started sketching himself and how he would look at the barbecue, sometimes by the end of the day he might not feel how he looks, he's just hiding how he feels on the inside. Being open to show his feelings is impossible for him to accomplish, he could never even try to say anything at all. Never really liking the common questions a person asks to start a conversation; like a 'Are you okay?', or and 'How was your day?', or 'How are you?'. It just bothers him and he probably won't answer the question, it depends on who is the person asking him, he'll probably mumble a fine or an alright, just to walk quickly away from the person talking to him. Flipping the page when he finished drawing himself, he didn't bother to look at it, he doesn't even look for any mistakes, he just leaves it like it is. Not really understanding why, he always thought that they were perfect when he first drew them. Shrugging his shoulders, he started drawing some more things as he thought about many things in his creative mind.

Looking back at the door, he deciding whether or not to walk in even if it was a few people inside probably. He could just sit down behind the couch like he does most of the time but, then someone who would be siting on the couch would probably look down and watch him draw or write. It makes him uncomfortable and nervous when someone was watching him draw and write, it didn't make him feel comfortable. Finally deciding to get up he hesitantly opened the door and walked in, walking down to the kitchen, and saw his father and mother, saying a mumbled hi before sitting behind the couch in the living area.

Miranda’s Perspective

Miranda was making some eggs when she heard the door open, turning her head slightly she saw her son, Damien walk in and give a mumbled hello. She smiled to him and finished flipped the egg then put it on a plate. She wiped her hands on a towel and walked over to Damien placing a kiss on his forehead "Hey you did you sleep well? Are you hungry? There are some eggs and bacon made and toast will be made soon, make sure to get it while its hot hunny" she said this all in a motherly voice before heading back into the kitchen. She popped some toast into the toaster and started working on more eggs.

She heard the door open again and turned to see Rowan, Hannah, and that girl...oh whats her name...oh yes Annette. She once again wiped her hands on a towel going over to Hannah and placing a kiss on the womens cheek "Finally Hannah I thought I was going to be making this meal all by myself, can you start working on the toast, I have some in the toaster but they need to be buttered and more put in." She then gave Rowan a hug "Good morning Rowan, suprised to see you awake so early, did you sleep well? Make sure you get something to eat hun." Miranda then turned to Annette "Its Annette right? well hun there are tons of food being made you make sure get something to eat okay?" After she was done saying hello she looked to Damien "Damien can you please get your father and tell him breakfast is almost ready." She headed back to the stove and started finishing up the breakfast.

Rowan Lorraine's Perspective

"C'mon, let's go already! I need to put these down before they burn through my oven mitts! You too, Anna, come along." Rowan felt her mom pretty much push her into her father's house and rolled her eyes, she wasn't that hungry and really just wanted to go out to Cobalt "Mom I am not hungry can I please just go out to Colbalt? I need to feed her and put her out in the pasture." She then saw Damien and waved to him before she got bombarded with a hug from Miranda "Good morning Rowan, suprised to see you awake so early, did you sleep well? Make sure you get something to eat hun." She went stiff and tried to get out of the hug "Mornin Miranda, yeah Mom woke me up by opening my door..." she then looked to her Mom "please don't open my door in the morning I have told you this more then once...it wakes me up" she said then looked to Annette "if you like you could come out to the stables with me...its just outback of the house" she said not even really waiting for a yes or no from her Mom. She went over to the living room and set her guitar on the couch "Want to come out with us Damien instead of staying in here?" she stood there waiting for both Damien and Annette's answer before heading out.

Damien's Perspective

"I slept okay," Well, okay wasn't good at all to some people who knew Damien more and when he said okay, it was always to cover up everything a person asked of his emotions and how he felt. Looking over at his mother he got up and nodded, walking to where his father was,"Father, breakfast is almost ready." Nodding to agree with himself he walked away back into the house and put his sketch book and other utensils back in his small backpack. Putting the small backpack on he looked over at Rowan who asked him if he wanted to go to the stables with her and Annette, a girl he barely knew but, would like to get to know, if he wasn't so distant. He didn't want to be rude and said no thanks, like he usually did to everyone else most of the time. "Okay."

Damien looked down for awhile and thought about how this year was heading off, he thought it was alright. If you count of the parts were e would ignore everyone at school, and freak out when a thousand of people surrounded him. Please, don't get him started about the cafeteria. But, other than those things, had gone smoothly for him, though he had been bullied and picked on because, of his large family he couldn't do anything about how people had felt about him and his family. All he knew was that his family was clearly peaceful and would never hurt a fly. He doesn't hate anything about being in a family about this, he just has some doubts.

Julian Reed's Perspective

Julian was still asleep as the earlier morning turned slowly into the evening, his eyes slowly opened to the sunlight that shined through his window. Looking around, he wondered why his alarm clock hadn't went off like it usually does, it probably needed a couple more batteries he didn't feel like buying. Sitting up in his bed, he stood up stretching out his arms and legs before taking a shower, and putting some fresh new clothes on to start his day off. After he finished off with that, he put some socks and put his pair of black converse on. Walking down the stairs, he had seen his mother in the kitchen and now she was in the living room drinking her early morning -well like early evening- coffee. "Did you sleep well?" His mother always asked him this because, ever since his father left them, he has been having these weird horrific dreams but, that was when he was younger. He did not really have that much of sleep anymore, he usually doesn't go to sleep but, when he does he doesn't really have dreams. "I didn't really sleep well but, I slept alright." Smiling as he finished fixing him some breakfast before eating it and heading outside just to enjoy the fresh air. Sighing as he started walking down the sidewalk of the very dead empty street, that used to be a little more of an alive full street. Looking around at the white painted wooden houses, some were a light green and others were a different light color -but, manly pink, white, and green are the main colors. Well, at least the lighter colors brings some light to this silent street, which he rather believed that people didn't really wake up in the evening.

Not really bothering to see if anyone of his friends were apart of this neighborhood, well he didn't know where they had lived so he usually had nothing else to do but, help his mother out with her business and tasks. He took his phone out and had wondered what time it was, it would usually be around at least 7:30 or somewhere around that time, whenever he woke up and went out for a walk.
