Introduction
My breath smelled of cigarettes and aIcohoI. Her body smelled like daisies and lavender and fall. We'd walk down the beach hand in hand, counting the stars and exchanging kisses that left us gasping for every breath. Her smile is like the wind blowing through her hair, and it's just so contagious... Almost like it's in the air. They hung out almost every day, three girls that couldn't be separated. The three of them still smelled like flowers and love and fall. We drlnk almost every night, my best friends and I. Brothers in crime isn't wrong. We smelled like sweat and smoke and aIcohoI.
But now we're falling down, and how can we pick up the pieces that we've left of our lives? We were so young and vulnerable.

Basic plot-line
Last Summer Kaylee Schaefer, her boyfriend (Lucas), two best friends (Deirdre and Danielle), and their boyfriends (Ace and ___), which happened to be her boyfriend's best friends, rented a beach-side cottage for a month. Kaylee was the envy of all her friends. She seemed to have everything until that summer. All their previous summer trips went perfectly well, so what went wrong with this one? The boys drnk and smoked, while the girls tanned and played on the beach. Kaylee made the boys promise to spend a day with them, and they walked on the beach going hand-in-hand. At night they lay in the sand counting every star. But as the three couples spent their days together, the guys became jealous of the other couples and fights over the girls started breaking out. Kaylee, of course, was the first one fleeing the scene crying. The results of the fight mixed the couples up, but it wasn't all it was meant to be. No one kept their girl, and that meant no girl kept her guy. They got jumbled around and placed together like ill-fitting puzzle pieces. When they finally got back arranged and sound, the guys began finding out from each other about secret kisses and nights spent cuddling in the sand, even if some of them lied about it. That sent jagged cracks through all three couples, breaking them apart. It's September now, and the girls haven't seen the guys since early July. School's back in at San Diego High School, and with it a plateful of drama.
Alrighty. That was probably really confusing, wasn't it? Okay. Here, let me explain it to you really simply:
Last Summer Kaylee and her two best friends, her boyfriend, and their boyfriends, stayed in a cottage by the beach for a month. The boys drink, smoke, and do all those things that many people consider nasty. The girls do not, however, do any of those things that people deem nasty. So, during the month that they were at the beach, all the boys would do is hang out together and leave their girlfriends on the beach tanning and playing in the sand. Well, the girls weren't liking being without their boyfriends, because, as stated in my confusing intro, they were all pretty sought for by guys. Well, one day Kaylee made the boys promise to spend the day with their girlfriends. The day went well, but as night came nearer the boys became jealous for some reason or another and began fighting. The results were this: the couples rearranged themselves so that everyone was with a different girlfriend/boyfriend and they spent the last bit of the month like that. Well of course afterward the guys went around bragging about nights on the beach, secret kisses, etcetera, etcetera, you get the idea. However, many of the things the guys were bragging about never happened, but they believed each other nonetheless. This basically broke up the couples. Now it is September and school is starting again, but the girls haven't seen the guys since the first few days of July. San Diego High School is about to get doused with a bucket of drama.
The pairings from when they were still together:
Kaylee Schaefer ♥ Lucas Fisher
Deirdre Damorte ♥ Zachary "Leo" Tyrone
Danielle Leiber ♥ Ace
Names will be inserted as roles are filled.

Sitting down in his wheeled computer chair naked and wet, his hands pressed to the bare skin of his face. Several intricate tattoos with various meanings--most dealing with time served in correctional facilities. Some were for accolades earned for his outrageous behavior. A few were for his brutal nature, one including a time when, he nearly killed another kid his age in the boxing by breaking the last few ribs on his left side and deliberately and continuously pummeling him repeatedly and when the boxer attempt to stand back up--Leo delivered a haymaker and rendered him completely unconscious him right there on the spot. Another movement was when he made a prison made brass knuckles which actually broke from the force of each successive blow and bit into his knuckles leaving several distinct scars.
He then stood up, flipped on his stereo--at five in the morning and began laying out his clothes. Of course he put on a sleeveless T, and black Adidas sports pants and all the others. He spun his chair around and sat down, began to roll himself a homemade cigar with premium blend tobacco that produced a distinctively smooth and mellow taste that was consistent from cigar to cigar. He found old habits DID die hard in the case of a good smoke.

By the time she was done her ivory skin had a soft glow, the slight hint of blush to her cheeks was hidden beneath foundation and her green eyes were rimmed with black eyeliner and red eyeshadow. Finishing off she pulled black Converses on, her black messenger bag and then headed to go wake up Christopher, her stupid cousin who stayed with them because his mother had little control over him and his father was never home. - they were the only ones who appreciated his comedic actions - She also probably needed to wake Johnny, her older brother.
She discovered the two were already out. Deirdre couldn't believe it. They never were up on time. She knew Kit, her twin would already be out, but wow...those two. Never in her wildest dreams.
She walked downstairs, got herself a Monster energy drink and headed for the door. She didn't really care if she saw Leo or not. She was probably the only one who ever expected this whole mess would happen. She just always assumed the worst would come out of realtionships now, and therefore was good at ignoring people she didn't care fors presence. Life went on, unfortunately for Deirdre who had an irrational hate for it...
Once she arrived at the steps she saw them.
It was impossible to miss!
Booty shorts and a short rainbow tutu!
Chris was sprawled out on a nearby picnic bench, looking dead, flashing barely concealed by the skirt plaid boxers to everyone who walked by and a sexy lowcut tanktop and bright blue, poorly applied eyeshadow.
Johnny was standing near his cousin with a Starbucks in hand wearing black sunglasses, bright green Victoria's Secret shorts that said 'Pink' across the ass and a purple tank that was also by Victoria's Secret that didn't fit right by a long shot. She assumed that outfit was his girlfriends. He looked up and waved to her, making her approach them and try not to laugh.
"Nice outfit, guys." She said, sarcastically.
"Oh, come now, Deirdre. I'm teaching the boy the art of crossdressing and still being a badass." Johnny explained, getting a 'Hey, man' and a high-five from the Quarterback of the schools football team who then promptly pushed the sleeping Chris off the table, making him hit his head on the metal bench and mutter, 'Ow, fuck.'.
Deirdre just laughed, amused by the early-morning event.

"Excuse me, but you are in my spot." she said.
The guy chuckled and crossed his arms.
"You don't have your name on it, so you can't claim it as yours." he argued.
Danielle smirked and fought the urge to sock this guy in the face. He was really annoying her. She crossed her arms and took a step closer to him so it looked like she was challenging him.
"Get out of my spot before I force you to." she threatened.
The guy pretended to be scared and then smirked at her. She raised her fist and forced herself to not hit him. He raised an eyebrow again and watched her restrain herself.
"Yeah right. You don't have the guts to hit me." he replied.
Danielle took that as a challenge and clenched her fists. The next thing she knew, the guy had a bloody nose and was in her face.

Arriving at the school, Kaylee saw Danielle arguing with a sophomore over her parking space. Pulling into the spot next to it, she sighed and got out, heading over to her friend, leaving all of her stuff in the car. Munching on a sugar donut, she approached her friend, who was threatening the sophomore. However, as she approached, Dani gave him a bloody nose and he got in her face. Frowning, Ianto moved to stand protectively between Dani and the sophomore.
"Is there a problem?" he practically growled, eyes narrowed, his large frame shielded Dani from view, but he knew she wouldn't appreciate his intervention. However, she was probably be used to it by then.
Kaylee walked over to Dani, the charm bracelet that adorned her left wrist jingling as she walked. "Hallo Dani!" the German flowed easily from her lips as she hugged her friend. "I bought donuts." the short sentence was a half-silent offering of food to her long-time friend, but to those not as well acquainted with her, Kaylee would seemingly be speaking meaningless information.
Pausing as she saw Deirdre out of the corner of her eye, Kaylee grinned as she realized who was with her and what they were wearing. "Hang on." she grinned at Dani before turning and jogging over to Dei, Chris, and Johnny. "Lovely clothes, boys. Johnny, I believe you do have a bit more to teach Chris, though. I'm not sure if he could quite pull off a McDonalds, yet." grinning, she hugged Deirdre, not caring if the dark girl didn't appreciate it or not.

He glanced at his cousin who still looked about half-asleep as Kaylee ran over. When she complimented their clothing of choice that day he bowed, "Thank you." He smirked, his eyes sparkling slightly.
Deirdre half-smiled, "Hey, Kaylee." She said, waiting for the girl to release her. She wasn't really a big hug person.
"And no...he isn't." Johnny flicked Chris in the back of his head, the wind ruffling the boy's choppy sandy brown hair that was usually pushed back a bit with a bandana but wasn't today due to being lazy.
Suddenly Johnny's phone recieved a text and began playing "Smack That" by Akon - Which of course sparked an idea with the boy. He suddenly appeared very devious and pulled up YouTube on his phone, set it down and then the song began playing and the two boys immediately started dancing, waking Chris up almost instantly.
"Creeps up behind me and she's like "You're!". I'm like yeah, I know lets cut to the chase, no time to waste, back to my place. Plus from the club to the crib it's like a mile away. Or more like a palace, shall I say? Plus I got a pal if your gal is game...In fact he's the one singing the song that's playing!
"Akon!"." Chris sang, jumping around like a moron while Johnny decided to pole dance on one of the school's lights, making the Spanish teacher shout at him, which only made him laugh.
"Damn you Damorte kids!" The woman yelled, as the three were known for pulling stunts and doing things such as this.
Deirdre skipped over to the boys, laughing, unable to resist joining in on the fun, dancing with them and even singing along.
"Smack that all on the floor! Smack that give me some more. Smack that 'till you get sore! Smack that oh- Oh, shit." Johhny said before the end of his rap, watching as Deirdre skipped and spun over to the dipshit sophomore and rather suddenly slapped him across the face. He could've sworn he heard it from over there already... Always so quick to start shit... He thought, darkly, hoping the guy had time to react or just wouldn't do anything with all of them there.

"So, you can either get out of my spot, or I'll finish you." she threatened.
The scared sophomore hopped into his car and found a new spot. Danielle showed a satisfied smile and got into her car to pull into her spot. Next to her spot was where Ace would usually park...but things changed. She wasn't sure how things were going to go anymore.

Ace got out of bed and threw on the T-shirt from the night before, it was clean enough. He pulled on his favorite pair of jeans which fit him perfectly and walked down stairs. His little brother, 9 years old, was watching TV. He was home schooled. “I got to go Kiddo.”
Ace pulled into school in his old red hummer. He looked at his old spot and cursed silently. He wished he could run up to Danielle and give her a tight hug, like old times but after what he had done he knew he couldn’t. So he parked his car about five spots down from hers. Close enough to see her but far enough to avoid contact.
“She deserves somebody better than me.” He said quietly to himself touching the cold metal necklace lightly before getting out of his car.

"So, um, Kaylee...Deirdre, I'm just curious. Did either of you cuddle...or kiss Ace over summer? I need to know." she said a bit shyly.
It wasn't something easy to talk about. She had cuddled with their boyfriends and did't know if they knew about it. All she knew is that whatever happened ended her relationship with Ace. She cast another glance even though she wanted to just forget about it all. It wasn't easy. She had loved him and wasn't sure how she felt now. It was too complicated to piece together. She waited for a response from her friends as she tried to keep herself from glancing at him again.

Deirdre didn't like the thought - not only was Ace definitely not her type but he was also Dani's ex boyfriend. So it had 'Um, ew, no.' written all over it. The only reason she was so normal about this whole mess was that she was used to this sort of thing and also she didn't like showing weakness. So she acted like she didn't care at all.
Johnny removed his sunglasses to reveal striking green eyes - almost an exact copy of Deirdre's, only his were more lively - there was no barrier there. He grinned, "Well I certainly hope I didn't kiss Ace. If I did, I swear I didn't know it - I was probably drugged." He said, his tone oddly cheerful as he tried to tackle-glomp Dani.

The heavy duty suspension caught as he landed and spun the car sideways while he turned into the parking lot. He pulled nonchalantly into a student parking space, his lips drawing in the last taste like he were suckling for the sweetest honey before discarding the cigar to the side. He grabbed his keys, his bag and--reluctantly--- his books as well. Shutting the door he began his walk towards the back entrance into the school. He had a second cigar in case his nerves were tested today, he would have to preserve it like a contingency plan. He had a feeling today was going to be one of those days...

"Wow." she drug the word out, laughing, but quieting down as she watched Deirdre dance over to the Sophomore and smack him.
Heading over to the driver's side of her car, she reached in and grabbed the bright pink box of donuts from within, carrying it out to her friends.
"Breakfast is served." she grinned as she removed a sugar donut from the box, munching on it happily.
She was smiling on the outside, but on the inside she was frowning, remembering when Lucas would stand in the parking lot with them, eating some random form of food that Kaylee had picked up on the way over. Realizing her frown had reached the edge of her smile, Kaylee quickly pushed the thoughts away and let her playful grin form upon her lips and was about to say something when Dani interjected.
"No. I mean, Ace was sweet and all, but he was yours." after a moment's pause she realized her smile had faded some once more and it returned to being playful.
"So what do y'all wanna do after school? Or during, for that matter." she was joking about the last part, but still received a threatening look from Ianto at the idea.
"Calm down, puppy chow." she hugged her brother, whom was about a foot taller than her, "It's only the first day of school."
"Exactly." Ianto frowned, having been silent through the entire exchange, but he took a glazed donut from the box and quickly ate it before checking his watch.
"You should be heading inside now." Ianto nudged Kaylee gently toward the school and was about to say something else when the deafening roar of a familiar Dodge Charger echoed through the parking lot.
"Got noise?" he frowned, talking quietly and not caring if anyone heard him or not.
As soon as it was quiet, Ianto ushered the three girls toward the school in a shooing motion. "Inside. Now. I don't intend for any of you to deal with them." he paused and turned to Kaylee. "Especially you."
"Don't worry, chowow! They'll stay away, I'm sure. No need to have the tension going both ways." Kaylee grinned cheerfully and offered the box of donuts toward Johnny and Chris.
"Hungry, puppies?" Kaylee grinned at her joke regarding the nicknames, but tried to contain it at an annoyed glance from Ianto.
"'Tis okay, puppychow. I'll stop for a bit." reaching to her right, Kaylee gave Ianto a one-armed hug- her version of an apology in most cases.

He shoved his hands in his pockets and slowly pulled out a piece of paper. It was folded into a messy square and it had a name written in crayon. His brother must have snuck a note into his jeans last night. Ace held it close to his face, trying to figure out what the name was and then he got it. His brother had written a note to Danielle.
Ace carefully put the note back in his pocket. He’d deliver it to her but not for a while. He’d probably slip it in her locker if the right chance arises, if he didn’t forget about the note by then.

"Okay, thanks guys. I just wanted to know exactly what happened." she said shyly.
She hadn't told her friends what she did on the trip to cause her and Ace to break up. It was something that would have to wait and come at the right time. She smiled when she saw the doughnuts. They looked absolutely delicious. She grabbed a round choclate one from the box and took a huge bite out of it.
"Thanks!" she said happily once she swallowed down the mouthful of doughnut she had.
Her thougths threatened to switch back to Ace, but she put other things on her mind so she wouldn't think about him. Time would fix whatever happened and come up with a result. She still didn't know what result she wanted to come in the end of this. Ianto and Kaylee's arguing distracted her.
"Chill, Ianto. We are old enough to handle our own problems. I can stick up for myself, Kaylee has me and Deirdre, and we all stick up for each other." she said to Ianto.
It annoyed her when he tried to solve all their problems for them. She didn't think that any of the guys would cause problems for them. At least, she didn't think so. The way Ace just ignored her hurt a bit, but she couldn't blame him. Things happened that shouldn't have. She felt bad for what she did to him. Why couldn't she stick to her own guy? She watched Zachary enter the parking lot. Many memories of her summer came back. All the cuddling and extra kissing that shouldn't have happened. She looked away from him and smiled at her friends as if none of those thoughts had gone through her head.

When Leo drove in though he looked a bit more serious as he took a bite out of the sprinkle-covered doughtnut, sliding his shades back on and watching quietly.
Deirdre rolled her eyes at Ianto. She would deal with Leo on her own as she always did if it came down to it. She wasn't known for letting people resolve her poblems, and there was no way she was going to start now.
Crossing her arms over her Bullet for My Valentine tank and glancing over her shoulder at the school with black eyeliner rimmed eyes she looked at Chris and Johnny who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their breakfast. Tucking a lock of her raven black hair behind her ear she pulled on some black sunglasses and waited for everyone to start talking again as she popped her iPod's earbuds into her ears and began playing "You Spin Me Right Round (Like a Record Baby)" by Dope.

His posture was defensive, not overly aggressive towards her. It was more like, for the first time he didn't know exactly what to do at first. Then he simply put his things down against a near by wall, and began to walk towards her in a nonchalant motion. Other girls took notice, but he didn't even give them a first glance let alone a second as his arms swung to and fro casually. He stepped up to Danielle, his masculine scent surrounding him as always with a hint of his cigar smoke.
"How are you?" He asked her, his voice a timeless gruffness to it. It fit his intimidating stature perfectly.

Chris immediately scrambled for another random donut and then took off for a safer part of the school, running as fast as his skinny little legs could carry him in a rainbow skirt. Deirdre rolled her eyes at him, cranked up the volume on her iPod to "Your Betrayal" by Bullet for My Valentine until it was maxed and then slunk off after Chris, muttering under her breath about 'stupid fucking motherfuckers'. She had thought she could be civil about this whole mess but was apparently wrong.
Johnny crossed his arms, waiting patiently to see this all unfold.

"I'm fine. How about you?" she asked, trying not to show any signs of nervousness.
She didn't know whether she should be talking to him or not. It was wrong. Leo was Deirdre's ex. Deirdre was her best friend. She thought about what she should do. Her friends were all standing there, except for Chris. Leo looked intimidating, which was probably why Danielle was a bit nervous, other than the fact that stuff happened over summer. She cast a glance at Deirdre and saw her focused on her iPod. That was a bad sign. She looked back at Leo and waited for something to happen or someone to say something.

"Good, good..." Leo said calmly, nodding his head in added acknowledgement. He then spotted Deidre, as always--with her Ipod. It seemed things never really changed though things could change at any moment and at any rate. For the briefest of moments his thoughts condemned his pride. He hated how it made him act, how it made him feel sometimes. It could make him feel like superman, like he were impervious to anything thrown at him. Other times it made him so narrow minded--like he was just solitarily focused on one aspect of something, of someone that it made him vulnerable to being burned.
"Hey,"He beat his chest with one of his large open hands. "I'm all good, nothing's going to keep me down for long. I'm a fighter." He then said giving Danielle a quick but faltering smile.
He was quiet for a few moments. Those few moments driving a knife in his windpipe. He recalled being offended by the "phoniness" that stemmed from the contradiction between his charming, even unctuous public manner and his anger in private. But Deidre attempted to reconcile that part of him, she tried to quell that storm inside of him. He said some things, he did somethings his pride would never let him live down.
"I'll see you latter, Dani-girl." He said, drawing his glasses back up he placed them over his eyes. The pair of shades glimmered as he pivoted on the heels of feet. He began walking away, looking out the window as he passed each one. He leaned down without missing a step and grabbed his things and kept on walking, stepping around a bend walking towards his locker.

"Did you hit on my girlfriend?" The linebacker demanded.
"No..." Chris squeaked and then laughed, more out of fear than anything. "Okay...maybe a little." He admitted, holding his hands up in front of his face as the football player slammed him into the metal lockers. That would teach him not to slap random girl's asses...maybe.
"Hit on my girlfriend again, Damorte and I'll kill you." Sanchez warned, walking away after dropping Chris who wound up on the floor, his head spinning from being slammed into metal lockers.
Deirdre threw Sanchez a dirty look before helping Chris up and then walking over to her locker near Leo's, totally ignoring him however as she searched through her things.

"That was awkward. We should get inside the school so we aren't late." she said quickly and quietly.
She didn't wait for a response from anyone before speed walking into the school and going to her locker. Hopefully she would run into Ace. She wanted to talk to him really bad. All she could do was go to her locker and hope that he would be somewhere near. She slowed down once she was inside the school and stopped in front of her locker. Her books were killing her back. It was a relief to get them out of her backpack and into her locker. She looked for her Spanish book and finally found it under her p.e. clothes.
"Oops, I guess I should have taken my books out before putting my clothes in." she said to herself.
Spanish was the worst class she had ever taken. She had failed it twice already and hope to God that she would be able to pass it this year. Everyone said that she was so white that she would never get it, but that wa stupid.

He closed the locker and reset his combination lock. Stepping away, he proceeded directly to his class. He knew where every teacher was located due in no small part to Mrs. Dwight's involvement with him last year which resulted in a lot of detentions and other after school activities that involved him cleaning almost every classroom on almost every floor. The only reason he participated, was because he felt fed up with exchanging foster care. Fortunately, this year he could get his own place as he was legally an adult. But he had to save his money for such an endeavor.
He stepped inside the classroom and immediately found the furthest row back and sat in the last seat with his legs propped up on the seat adjacent. He waited, in boredom, as the other student began to file in the room two or three at a time. When the bell finally rang, signifying the five minutes left to get their asses to class--they began to come much more frequently. The murmurings of their summer eluded him as he had his own conversations going on in his head. They consisted mostly with Danielle or Deirdre. He kept his shades on even as class began and the slow day started.

“Get ahold of yourself Ace.” He muttered to himself almost to his classroom.
He shook his head; he needed to stop thinking about her. Summer had ruined any chances of them getting back together. He walked over to his history class pausing at the door, glancing over at Danielle once more.

She was trying to ignore the summer - ignore Leo, but it was kind of hard. She really wished she didn't have to go to the same school as him. It would make it easier for her...too bad her dad quit his job that caused him to move around a lot. She at least still had her friends - Kaylee and Danielle. Deirdre suddenly realized she wasn't paying much attention to the teacher and fixed that.

He became lost in thought, tilting his chair and balancing it on the two back legs and rocking it carefully back and forth. He stared towards Deirdre. Thoughts drifting towards the past, seldom did he go near that thought, but seeing her alone amongst the room of nearly thirty students--it was difficult not to go back to those times.
One memory in particular that he kept near his heart still before everything became balderdash, muddled and murky. It was fay at the beach, just the two of them--alone. The light of day was failing miserably, as though the even the sun's warm rays--like tired arms, sank gradually beneath the horizon of deep blue waters. The Charger was parked in the lot up on the hill. The two of them were down in the sandy beachhead. She was in a two piece. He remembered well, because how could he ever forget the way her alabaster skin felt to his hands touch?
With the sand clinging to their bodies from their earlier play in the lukewarm waters. The wrestled, rolling over and over. One pinning the other, or trying to at least. He then would pick her up simply, pulling over one broad shoulder and carry her out into the water where he threw her into the hastily becoming frigid waters. When she had resurface, her hair slicked back and clinging to her freshly drenched body. He simply laughed before she came after him. He then began to simply turnaround before she jumped on his back and brought him backwards into the cold water with her.
After was all said and down however, they lie on their towels on the beach in the end. Facing each other. She had her head laid against one of her arms. He had his on head the same way, his eyes looking over her. His other hand running up and down her bare leg slowly, and along her arms. One thing she always said she liked--he was like a personal space heater, he ran hot constantly. In this moment, perhaps forgotten by her but not by him, he'd use it to dry her skin of the cold water that still clung to her. He'd use this small bit of infinity of eternity--deep in his heart, to stare at something he thought he believed in.
He didn't believe in much. Not the world. Not the stars. Nothing but her for that moment when everything was so clearly cut out.

She and Leo didn't have a problem. It was over...obviously. It wasn't in her to forgive and forget. She never had with anyone else...she wouldn't make an exception this time for Leo, he wasn't that special. Yeah, sure, they had some pretty okay times together, but it meant nothing now. Or at least so she told herself, over and over again.
