Hannah Richmond's Story

The sky was a brilliant blue colour, white clouds of water vapor dancing among the atmosphere high above. Sun light beat down warmly, occasionally being blocked by a cloud as it made it's way through the Sun's path, making the world got dark temporarily. Birds chirped and soared through, making their wings sparkle. A strong breeze was blowing through, making it hard for anyone to keep their hats on their heads with out clutching at them, trees were only swaying though.

The commotion in the city was enough to make her sick. It was all too busy and crowded for her liking, but she knew that she couldn't leave her father to fend for himself, he was just too forgetful. She just wished that she could get the past the city gates already so that she could go down to the valley. She pulled her cloak closer to her body, holding it closed at the front. Her hood blew down, with a sigh she reached out and pulled it back down, drawing the string to tighten it.

She walked as quickly as she could, hoping to keep her hair hidden and her eyes down. This was the best way for her to go about her business while walking through town with out being noticed. There was no way that she was going to deal with humans if she could help it. It any human noticed it wouldn't bode well. If anything bad were to happen she would be in a bad mood, and no matter how much she would try to hide it from him, her father would notice, then he would worry about her. She really didn't need the pressure.

She wasn't looking where she was going, just down at the ground toward her feet, so she didn't even see what she was heading right into. Suddenly everything in her vision went black, and she landed on her backside. She shook her head and looked up. An older guy, well younger than her, but older physically, human was looming over her, he looked angry. He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her up, her hood falling away from her head, revealing her white hair, she knew that he had seen her orange-bronze eyes. "A Half-Breed," he said angrily. "How am I not surprised? You and and the rest of your kind should really learn your place in the world, and give us Humans the respect that we deserve."

She shoved against him, trying to weaken his hold on her. "Let. Me. Go!" Finally she pulled way. As quickly as she could she ran away, over her shoulder throwing back a "And it's jerks like you that caused my mother to do what she did!" She looked back ahead of her and ran for the gate. When she left the city she headed straight to the valley.

The lake at the bottom of the bowl in the land was sparkling from the Sun, but for once it wasn't enough to raise her spirits. She walked down to the shore and slipped off her shoes. She sat down on the plush vibrant green grass and looked out toward the edge of the valley. Thoughts going back to a hundred years ago...No matter how much she tried to avoid it all through out her life. She just wished that she that there were more people out there other than just the parents of Halflings, who accepted them.
