Introduction
Welcome to Elsewhere.
If you're here, chances are, you're dead.
We apologize if this is shocking news to you, but we do hope you enjoy your stay.
Like on Earth, life in Elsewhere is nowhere near permanent. In time, you will leave Elsewhere and return to Earth to live a new life. In Elsewhere, you age backwards from the day of your death until you are a baby again, only then can you return to Earth. Nobody dies in Elsewhere. Nobody is born in Elsewhere.
If you're new here, you will awaken to find yourself aboard a ship. This ship is a one way trip to Elsewhere; you cannot go back. Once you arrive, you will be given a proper introduction to our way of life here by a counselor of sorts and we will try to find a home for you; if you have relatives in Elsewhere you will most likely live with them. Everyone living here must find some sort of job to do for as long as they are capable of doing so. Don't worry, jobs here in Elsewhere are different then jobs on Earth; you actually enjoy what you do. Getting a job helps you adjust to your new life and feel at home. Oh yeah, we almost forgot, humans aren't the only ones who end up in Elsewhere; animals of all kinds wind up here too and if you take the time, you can learn their language.
*Ideas above taken from the book Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin*
---------------
Main Plot:
It was a regular Sunday morning for sixteen year old Leah Shay. She had gotten up early and walked into town to get some bagels for her family when the local deli was robbed, as she walked in the door. The jumpy robber was not expecting clueless Leah to walk in the side door, which she had used for the past five years she had lived in the town, and turned the gun on her and fired, expecting the safety to be on and only to scare the girl. The safety was not on. Leah Shay was shot in the chest. Frightened, the robber ran past the girl and out of the store. Leah was brought to the hospital and was expected to be dead. As it turns out, Leah was not dead; she was in a deep coma.
Meanwhile, dazed and confused Leah awoke to find herself aboard a ship in a small cabin. A worker on the ship informed her of the ship's destination and her death. For awhile, Leah believed she really was dead and was overcome with grief, but things get strange quickly; when she tried to view her own funeral she saw herself in a hospital bed with her teary-eyed family members around her. It isn't long until Leah realizes that she is not actually dead yet; there has been some sort of mistake. Will Leah be able to convince anyone who matters that she does not belong here yet? Will she even want to return home, after she discovers her beloved older cousin who died of cancer three years ago is in Elsewhere? When she finds true love? Leah must decide between her life on Earth and her new life here in Elsewhere.
---------------
So that's my idea. You can still join even if you didn't read the book, but you may want to wikipedia it for a general synopsis or whatever. I don't want this to be a huge roleplay.. so I may put a limit on how many people join, but I'm not sure how many people I want yet.
Rules:
- Only use your own original characters, not characters from the book please!
- Don't make this roleplay a 1x1, try to include everyone
- Be literate, and BE HERE! Don't sign up and then disappear!
- I'd like it if all the characters are some how involved with Leah, since she is the protagonist
- All characters must have a job of some sort
- No mary-sues, NOBODY is perfect!!! They will not be accepted!
- Romance is encouraged, but keep it PG-13
- Violence is not the motive of this roleplay, but if it is a must, please keep it at a PG-13 level (remember that no one can die in Elsewhere
- Respect one another
- I have the right to edit these rules when I see fit
Somewhere in your character descriptions, please include these, I will not accept characters that don't have these:
*Also, please only use realistic pictures!!*
Real Age (12+, this is how old you were on Earth plus your time spent in Elsewhere)
Age (12-61, how old you were on Earth minus time spent in Elsewhere, since you age backwards)

Re: Welcome to Elsewhere (OOC/Sign-ups)
And yes, her real age would be twenty in that case. I assume you can all do the math, right? xD
Re: Welcome to Elsewhere (OOC/Sign-ups)
Would it make sense for her real age to be twenty, she died at age sixteen and now she would appear to be twelve in Elsewhere?

She was born and raised in New York City, NY and has two siblings: one younger sister and one older brother. Her parents fight sometimes, but haven't had any issues serious enough to cause a divorce yet. Four years ago, Leah's favorite cousin was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. A year later, the young boy of 19 died and Leah was devastated. The boy was like a second brother to her, and she missed him dearly. She never expected that she would see him again, but as it turns out, she does.
