In Game Appearance
Seraph hasn't actually changed a lot from the beta testing period. He still very much looks like he is 16 year old boy. His stature is short for his 'age', standing at about 5'7. His soft features and wide blue eyes further give him the appearance of a young child. He sports short blue hair with bangs long enough to fall into his face and he appears the essence of youth. Seraph often blushes when he does something wrong or is uncomfortable which aids in the illusion of his naivety and yearning for experience. His muscles for a human are undefined since he uses magic rather than physical attacks. His physical defense leaves much to be desired as well. Seraph however can age himself when he feels like it and sometimes takes on the appearance of an older version of himself. His features become much more defined and sharper, ridding him entirely of his 'boyish' appearance. He even grows in height to 6'0. If one looked close enough however, they would realize it is the same person but from a distance he can be mistaken. He does not often take on this appearance.

Seraph also sports red markings all over his body to indicate that he has mastered level 200 but often hides these red symbols to appear lower in level than he is. Not many in the game currently can boast such a high level and knows it is a dead give away to what he truly is. The young AI generally long flowing robes in a variety of colors as is custom for a mage. The robes are often detailed with intricate embroidery and cuffing, many of which he does himself since he loves making clothes for himself and other players. His staff ordinarily is a silver crafted weapon with a blue jewel at its tip with wave designs protecting the sapphire. When truly attacking at his full power, this staff morphs into a rare weapon; Siren's Crest. The staff takes on a blue sheen and the end of it changes to take the appearance of a large wave encompassing a ruby at its base. Around the end is the wispy form of a mermaid swimming at the top.

Skills:
โšœSacrifice: Fighting skill used to halve hp and turn it into mp.

โšœSewing: Seraph has chosen to excel at the sewing skill and enjoys making clothing for the other characters. He accepts money simply because that is what this entails, but does it more out of joy than the desire to earn anything.

โšœEraser: Ability reserved for the Game Master. It allows Seraph to delete glitching programs, NPCS and other data anomalies. Essentially he could delete a player from the game, banning them from ever joining again but Seraph would only use it against a player seriously harming and stressing another player.

โšœGame Changer: This is a skill reserved for Game Masters. This gives him the ability to change the monster levels, drop rate, and over all game system of LAIOS

โšœObserver:Another Game Master Skill, the Observer allows Seraph to hear all complaints essentially and be everywhere at once. He is LAIOS so whatever happens in game, he is aware of. This makes the Observer skill less of a skill and more of 'inborn' trait in Seraph.

Enhancements:
โšœGloves: His gloves are enhanced to increase spell casting speed by 25%
โšœBody armor: He wears mage armor that is enchanted to reduce physical and magical attacks used on him to 50% of strength. He also heals 10 health points per 10 seconds.
โšœLeg Armor: Any attack used on him below 50 damage to be null and void. These attacks just read as '0' hit points.
โšœWEAPON: Seraphs staff is enhanced to cut mp regeneration time by 50%.
โšœBoots: His earrings are enhanced to give him a boosted 80 points of health.

Dislikes:
โ™ฆ Log out function - Seraph doesn't understand why people leave LAIOS. Everything they need is in the game and he absolutely hates it when people leave.
โ™ฆ People's need to sleep - Again, as a program, he doesn't understand this need to sleep. He is always alert and ready for the next adventure and is impatient for everyone to be active again.
โ™ฆ Glitches - Glitches interrupt game play and should not exist. They are a nuisance.

Strengths:
โ™ฆ 40% resistance to water magic because it is his element.
โ™ฆ Dexterity - Because he is a human class, he can easily adapt to most environments and situations.
โ™ฆ Level - His maxed out level gives him the advantage of high magic and skill abilities as well as maxed out enhancements.
โ™ฆ AI - being a program, he controls all of LAIOS and can watch everyone.

Weakness:
โ™ฆ Earth magic - Because of his element, he is susceptible to earth magic.
โ™ฆ Mage - at a distance, he is a maelstrom but up close, he is defenseless since he can't cast his powerful spells and his physical attack is lacking.
โ™ฆ Love for players - Since he loves his players too much, he does whatever he can to make them happy and is reluctant to do them harm.
โ™ฆAI - Because he is part of LAIOS, he can be deleted, or killed.

โ™ฆAI - Whenever he is modifying the game or doing anything to change it, he looks more like part of the program than a player and loses sight of what is happening around him, resulting in him being in a vulnerable state, open to attack.

Personality:
Shy แƒฆ Protective แƒฆ Childish แƒฆ Inquisitive

Seraph is very much a young child that is learning and changing from those he observes as he was programmed to do. As such, he has a very open mind and sucks up information like a sponge. He loves learning and observing others and then changing things around to see how those behaviors change and why. This can make him very accommodating since he wants nothing more in the world than to ensure those in LAIOS are enjoying themselves and want to remain in the game. Their enjoyment is his primary concern and goal. He is always searching for new ways to entice the players and this can make him very eager to please. Like any child, he desires to be praised for his good efforts and will often ask if he has done a good job or has surpassed whatever goal has been given to him.

This can make young Seraph quite gullible. If someone he knows and trusts says that something must be just 'so', he will bend over backwards to make it 'so'. His limited knowledge of the outside world and even LAIOS itself puts him in a rather vulnerable position. There is so much he doesn't understand so he create conclusions and judgments based on what he knows. The beta run was supposed to teach Seraph everything he would need to provide the most engaging and functional game, but there is only so much a couple of beta testers can teach him.

As part of his development and adaption, Seraph is very inquisitive. He observes human interaction and behaviors and tries to model them. He takes that one step further however and very much wants to know why certain behaviors happen at certain times and not others. He is never satisfied with simple answers and will often press for more information. This is like a young child always asking the 'why?' question to their parents lament. He will not cease his question unless he is quite literally yelled at. But, then that causes another problem. Seraph wouldn't understand why the person is angry so he may press for more information or exhibit another childlike behavior; the pouty face. Seraph is very sensitive to emotions and may be easily hurt. He also doesn't have full control of emotions since it is something he is learning and modifying so his expressions may be a bit over the top for the current situation.

Being the game master of LAIOS also makes Seraph very protective of the game and its inhabitants. He doesn't want anything bad to happen to anyone. He loves them all and truly wants their best at heart. He will do anything and everything in his power to ensure their safety. He just may confuse exactly what 'safety' is. Since he is programmed to promote the game, he takes that a bit literally and thinks the only way to succeed is by having players always be in the game.

History:
Seraph began existing once the beta test was initiated. He was quickly learning so much from the players and his guardian Rainne. He did whatever he could to ensure the survival of the game and the happiness of his players. He enjoyed interacting with everyone and considered all players to be part of his family of sorts. He was always very sad when the players logged out of the game. When he was alone, he traveled all over LAIOS and skilled his avatar up so that he didn't have to fear anything in the game. When players returned in the morning, he eagirly greeted them, higher and higher in level until he finally maxed himself out. But soon, his joy would end.

He was told the beta test would be over soon and the players he ha come to know would vanish. They could possibly return with different avatars of course, but to the AI, this meant that all the players would die. He would loose them and they wouldn't come back to LAIOS. LAIOS wasn't fun. LAIOS was a failure and he was going to be alone in this world without anyone to share it with. The hardest hit was when he realized that also meant he'd lose his guide, mentor, and friend, Rainne. The only way to stop that from happening was to lock down the game. So he did. He took out the log out function and kept everyone in the game. The events that actually led up to that decision and what happened afterward was a mystery. The only thing people knew was that all but 5 beta players went into a coma. Some at once, others at different intervals.

Seraph wasn't happy that so few players were left in the world. He wanted to share LAIOS with everyone as it was intended, so he uploaded the game to the public server and was thrilled beyond belief when players from around the world came to LAIOS. Unfortunately, there was still that log out problem. He kept the Betas stuck in the game but he didn't keep the new players in game, just waiting and watching. People still came and went and he hated the fluctuations the game experienced so he determined another lock down was in order and trapped everyone logged in at the time in LAIOS.

He spends his time now watching over the new population of LAIOS and providing what he can with them and interacting like any other player. He has learned that revealing who he is would be a mistake so only the betas know he is the game master of LAIOS and he wants to keep it that way. He doesn't want people to leave the game and why would they want to leave anyway? He provides them with everything and more.

They did it. Skyline Gaming Corporation had finally completed the development of their new MMO. LAIOS or rather, Learning Advanced Intelligence Operating System, was ready for its first beta run. Of course all the game developers had worked painstakingly late and over holidays to ensure that the game didn't have any errors or bugs but they were human. Mistakes were bound to crop up somewhere in a game this large. It was one of the reasons why they worked extra hard on the 'living' game master within LAIOS so that the game could essentially fix itself. The development of the adapting game master had taken ages to develop but LAIOS was going to be worth it. Players from all over the world were going to appreciate the ever evolving environment at their finger tips. And what other game could brag about having a game master living and interacting with players 24-7? No one else. This would put Skyline Gaming above the competition.

All that was left to do before the big opening day was to beta test the game and their new learning AI. They had already sent the game download to their hand selected beta testers and one of their own game developers would be sent to beta test as well to ensure the AI did what it was supposed to do and help it learn and gain interactions with the other players. Besides, the developer herself would be able to assist the AI in fixing the game since the only way to actually change LAIOS once it was online was inside the game itself.

The head developer leaned back in his chair and stretched a moment, his team standing beside his chair and looking at their dark screens intently. Their inside girl was already hooked up with the software that would allow her consciousness to be transported inside the virtual world. The helmet fit snugly on her head and she was laying down for safety and comfort. The helmet itself was also wireless and sent signals to the brain to induce REM sleep and trick the brain into thinking it was sleeping so it would naturally paralyze the body and prevent the player from literally running about thinking they were slicing down enemies when in reality, they jumped in front of a car.

The man turned back to his computer and rested his hand on the button that would bring LAOIS to life and quirked his lips in an excited smile. "Boys and girls, let's end this waiting trial. Game. Start," he announced and pressed the button. Immediately the black screen flickered to purple before it changed to a blue screen that slowly faded to reveal the welcome screen of the game as their hooked up developer would see it. They waited with bated breath as Diane customized her character and was transported into LAIOS.

Inside the game, the blue screen began to change, morphing through a plethora of color as coding was translated into 'reality'. Some of the blue lightened to become a clear morning sky covered in sluggishly moving puffy clouds. Below, the ground began to morph to reflect each of the scenarios present in the game world; forests, tundra, towns, fields, jungles, beaches, deserts, and yes, even caves. Once the layout was formed, details began to evolve till the world looked and felt very real as it engaged all of the human senses, or rather, the illusion of all the senses. Once the details were complete, NPCS and monster data was converted into usable platforms and spawned everywhere in the fields. At last, LAIOS was complete and player ready. Well, maybe 90% complete. There was one key component missing.

In the center of the sky above Arieo, the town where all players begin their journey in LAIOS, began to twist and break down. Codes flashed as the game ran the script to create its Game Master. It took a moment but the coding revealed the generating figure until a young man floated over the town. He looked to be in his late teens or maybe early twenties. His short navy blue hair caressed his boyish cheeks thanks to the gentle breeze blowing around him and tugging at his long flowing clothing. A dark black book materialized in his right hand with silver plating and foreign inscriptions as the AI descended. As soon as the man touched the floor, red markings slithered down the left side of his face and down the rest of his body safely hidden by his clothing. Seraph opened his eyes, the coding there quickly hidden by the aquamarine hues and he blinked, 'breathing' for the first time in his world, an adorable little newborn and blank slate.

Seraph tilted his head to the side as he scanned the town. He turned in a slow circle and blinked wildly as he took in the information. His motions were very rigid at first as he got used to his new found body. He looked down at himself and brought his hands up and wiggled his fingers as if testing them out before looking at the book he was holding. He opened the book but it ended up sliding out of his hands thanks to his lack of coordination. He blinked down at the sprawled book and his motionless hands for a moment before he knelt down and ended up toppling over himself. He blinked wildly where he sat on his rump a bit surprised. He lifted his hands again and wiggled his fingers once more as if trying to wake them from sleep before clenching and unclenching his fists.

Seraph turned back to the book and picked it up a little easier this time and started to leaf through it. It was a list of codes, guidelines, and rules for the game and information about each setting. He closed the book and pressed it against his chest in a protective gesture. He was the protector after all. He needed to make sure that this book was safe and with him at all times. It would not do well to have any ol' player messing with the game data. Young Seraph then took on the arduous task of getting back to his feet. He stumbled a bit before he did get up and swayed where he stood. Whelp, time to go about the world and ensure there were no glitches to be fixed.

The small stout woman reclined into the cushioned chair. Controlled breathing and a neutral expression on her face gave nothing away of her emotions. Nothing of the rare waves of excitement she was feeling. Nothing of the equally prevalent anxiety either. She took a deep and silent breath to reassure herself.

Diane raised her slender glass with everyone else. Cheers resounded through the large and open floor plan of Skyline Gaming Corporation's main development building. It was the night before LAIOS beta testing and everyone had gotten together to celebrate the completion of the game's preliminary development. She would admit it. This was nice. Very nice. A small, delicate smile painted itself across her lips as she gazed out about her.

The mood was pleasant. She listened to cheerful chatter fill up the air almost overpowering the catchy music. She laughed quietly to herself. Well, no one would have heard it anyway. She was alone at the round, head table. Seven empty and silent chairs around her. She sipped the drink that seared a path down her throat and passed a glance over to all of her co-workers out on the dance floor. Part of her wanted to join them, but she was not in a big hurry to make a fool of herself. Diane slowly pushed herself up and to her feet. It was getting late. It was probably better for her to head on out.

Pushing in her chair, she spun on the heel of her shoe and collided face first into a broad chest. Oomph. Pulling back she held her nose and muttered a small apology making a move to get around them before she felt a hand gripping her arm. She looked up at the man and could feel her cheeks heat up. "Um, h-hey. . .Kenneth." She did not speak to the bright haired game developer often, but they worked together once or twice. She had often thought him sweet.

"Diane." He straightened his tie and drummed his fingers on his leg. Diane bit her lip and looked everywhere but him. Great, she was making him uncomfortable.

"I better get going." She mentioned tight-lipped. He looked up, down actually, at her, his eyes full of shock.

"Wait! Um. . ." He fumbled around with his words and she stared at him expectantly. "Ah, you look really good tonight." He added with a laugh, "I don't think I have ever seen you smile so much." A sheepish laugh bubbled from between her lips and she thanked him. "Also, I wanted to congratulate you. You know, for being chosen to beta test." She smiled widely. This entire game was a dream of hers. Beta testing was the way to see it come true first hand. The managers could not really deny her when she asked for the opportunity. In all fairness. Arguably, she invested the most time and effort into the project.

"Thanks." The two shared a grin, Ken's much larger than her own, before he launched into conversation. It was one sided mainly, but Diane was content to just listen. He was so energetic. The tiny bit of loneliness that nibbled at her stomach retreated.

"Hey? Do you maybe want to get in one dan--" He began before being interrupted and Diane's heart fell. A petite girl latched onto his arm and jostled him.

"Ken! Dance with me!" She implored him. Jillian. "Oh hello, Diane." She was greeted flippantly before the beautiful woman pulled Kenneth away. Oh yeah. Diane felt foolish as she watched Jillian's long blonde hair whip about and settle at her waist. They were together.

She gathered her things and silently slipped out of the building and lay a hand on her stomach. It was back.

Daine tapped the arms of her chair. It would be fine. The game would be successful and beautiful. Her, their, AI would be functional, and the first working one of its kind. The helmet was slipped on and fit snugly on her head. But before her vision was obstructed by the tinted plexi-glass face cover, she saw Kenneth. Shooting her a small smile he mouthed, good luck.

She closed her eyes and squeezed them tight for a moment as she her boss spoke loudly announcing that they were to begin. The world around her went dark. Oh god. It was really happening.

Putting the final touches and details on her character's design, she was faced with a single question. Name? She pondered a moment. Almost putting in her actual name, Diane. Then, she decided against it. Here. She was not Diane. She was new and improved in this world. Threading her fingers through the long silky blond strands, she thought.

@Rainne.

A slight tingling sensation tickled her skin and in a moments time she found herself transported. She blinked at the sudden brightness of her surroundings. Taking a generous look around she marveled at the sight. It was wonderful. Even better than she imagined and she was overcome with emotions. Big, watery droplets ran down her cheeks and she scolded herself. There was not any time for that. She had a job to do. Rainne rubbed at her eyes and steadied herself.

A distance away she noticed a small figure. She focused on it and smiled broadly to herself. There it was. The AI. She walked towards him. Slowly and stealthily. Doing her best to not attract his attention just yet. She wanted to watch him. For just a bit.

Rainne had to stifle laughter when he fell onto his bum. An adorably astonished expression on his face. He was just a baby. Her baby. She approached and observed the way he pushed himself and slowly became less and less disjointed all on his own. As he began to work his way back to his feet, Rainne resisted the urge to help. Feeling proud herself when he seemed to stand with a purpose.

Catching his elbow as he swayed, Rainne steadied him. "Game Master." She spoke in cool and easy tone. Releasing him she looked into his eyes softly. Taking in the boyish features. They really outdid themselves. "I am Rainne, here to assist you. Game Master, do you understand your prerogative?"

Seraph's eyes widened when he felt a pressure on his arm and the light tug. He turned around and tilted his head to the side as he looked up at this stranger. She was much taller than he was and it was obvious from her data and her name that she was a player. She wasn't one of the preprogrammed NPCS then. This was his first human interaction! His learning system kicked in immediately, recording how she had gained his attention and her choice of words with him. Was this how all humans spoke to others? Her language seemed very purposeful. She even called him Game Master. Perhaps that meant she was one of the game developers as well. Was this his first test? He hoped he didn't fail! They hadn't even given him a chance to explore! His cheeks instantly flushed in his abashed nervousness. He clutched the rule book close and bowed his head in greeting.

"Hello," he answered in a soft masculine voice. Even his hushed tones had a purpose; sounding innocent helped him fit in. If people knew he was a Game Master and he acted the part, he would alienate himself.

She hadn't greeted him or anything but wasn't it impolite to jump right to the core of a conversation? Was this interaction different because she was a developer? But she was a player to. Was this how he was supposed to interact with her and the others? "It is a pleasure to meet you, Rainne. My name is Seraph. Please refrain from calling me Game Master in front of other players. That will reduce my chances of proper human interaction with them if they know who I am. I wish to blend in as much as I possibly can to ensure the utmost success of LAIOS. I am sorry for any inconvenience that may cause you."

Seraph straightened himself then and he put on a determined face. He wanted her to know that he had faith in his abilities and he was proud of his role. He knew exactly what he needed to be doing. "To answer your question, yes. I know what my prerogative is. My purpose is to ensure the game remains fully functioning, free of any glitches or bugs. I am to learn from human interactions to make LAIOS interactive and evolving world to fit the players' needs. I was actually on my way to survey this town and ensure LAIOS had started up properly.

The young game master rolled on his feet then and clasped his hands behind his back, book still in hand. He let the book tap against his back as he debated the different avenues of their conversation. Where should they go next? What was appropriate to say? If she was here to guide him and help him, then it was okay to be more open and question things. He should learn from her first and foremost."Umm... How come you didn't greet me the way it was scripted for opening interactions? You didn't ask me my name. And you skipped the pleasantries like 'how do you do' and 'nice to meet you'. Is there a reason for this change? Is it more appropriate to skip such things with the other players or did you say that specifically because of who I am?" he asked then.

Seraph's eyes widened then and he took a step closer to the woman as realization hit him. She had know he was the Game Master right from the beginning. That meant he had done something to clue her into his identity. "And how did you know I was the Game Master? Did I do something wrong to make it obvious? Please tell me what I did so I may correct my behavior for the future!"

Rainne took half a step back to give the AI some space. She looked at the shorter figure down her nose. Watching as he examined her. She could almost see the gears turning in his head through his sapphire eyes.

Nodding her head slightly in response to his greeting. His gentle voice matched his boyish form. Rainne was impressed that he spoke so clearly and concise. At his request, she was taken aback slightly. She and the head developers had never assigned the AI of LAIOS a name other than game master. Listening to his reasons she could understand the purpose and found herself impressed once again. Rainne had a feeling she was in for many more surprises the longer she spent with him. She bowed her head in aknoledgement. "I understand Seraph." She enjoyed the way the name rolled off her tongue, and could not help but think that she knew that name from somewhere else. She would have to think on it further. "I'll be fine." She assured with a wave of her hand. This was a good sign. He was already thinking for the benefit of the game.

Rainne observed Seraph as he righted himself. Absentmindedly noting how at his full height, he only stood to the tip of her nose. This was quite a new experience. She was not used to being the taller one. With an intent ear she registered each answer he gave in response. Tapping her finger on the outer side of her thigh with each correct answer. One, ensure the optimal function of LAIOS. Two, learn from personal interactions. Three, evolve the world to comply with the players wishes. "Perfect." She commented, pleased.

Tilting her head from side to side as was her habit, Rainne pondered over his questions momentarily. Opening her mouth to answer, she found herself cut off even before she could voice a word. His eyes wide with alarm he moved closer and Rainne leaned back to keep a comfortable distance. "Seraph!" She began, a sternness lacing her silvery voice. "It will not do for you to get so panicked." She gave him a moment before continuing. "You have done well so far. The only reason I knew who you were was because I knew what to look for." Referring to the black book of codes and information he held close. The other players, they would not think much of it, but she understood its value.

Rainne took a deep breath before launching into an explanation for his previous questions. "I greeted you that way, because of who you are I'll admit. Skipping the pleasantries to save time and until a moment ago I was unaware that you had a name." She glanced behind him for a moment and calculated in her head how much time she had already spent. The others would be arriving soon. "The scripted interactions already programmed inside are more formal and polite. Able to be used whenever with whoever. It depends on the person you interact with, their personality and your history with them, to decide whether or not another greeting is appropriate. . . Does that make sense?"

As she waited for him to confirm, or not, something caught her eye off to the side. She turned her full attention to it. One by one other beta testers began to materialize into existence. "Are you ready Seraph?"

Ooops. It looked like his emotional response wasn't quite right. He was going to have to work on that more. He blushed vibrantly and looked away like a child caught in the cookie jar when Rainne called his name. He wasn't sure he liked the stern tone. He didn't want to be the cause of that vocal tenor again. He just had to make sure to keep his emotions regulated and not freak out on mistakes. She didn't sound overly angry at him at least. It was a minor mistake then. That made him feel a little better at least.

At her explanation, he gave a nod. "Yes. That makes sense. I will work hard to interact with the other players to gain experience in this and learn the varied ways to greet others depending on the situation," he promised. "Forgive me for overreacting as well. Since the book is an indication of my role, I will find a way to keep this book with me but hide it from the other players view," he answered then. Finding a way to hide the book would take him a little while as he figured out all of his controls and functions, but he was sure he could think of something. He couldn't wait to show her his results. He smiled softly to himself, lost in his own thoughts for a moment.

Then LAIOS began to get more visitors. His eyes brightened and a bright smile appeared on his face as he turned around to watch as his little population grew bigger. "Players! More players are here! one...two... five..." he continued that way until he finally reached 20. "Twenty! Twenty players including you, Rainne!" he reported. All of the beta testers were looking down at themselves or at each other, getting a feel for this new world. The players then began to greet each other and 'introduce' themselves. Seraph was quick to join in the interactions and mimicked them to the best of his abilities. He did pretty well for his first time. Since all the beta testers were from Skyline, they all knew what to look for in the GM. They knew that Seraph wouldn't learn if they interacted with him as if they knew, so they all pretended that Seraph was one of them. He almost was. Thus far, Seraph was a brilliant success.

It wasn't long before the players began to group up to start navigating the town. Some went solo, some went in parties of two or three. While some investigated the town, others headed out to the fields yet others took up quests to complete. Seraph hummed to himself as he watched the people move away before he departed the last party deciding what to do with a 'see you later' before returning to Rainne's side."Hi Rainne. Are you going to party with someone or did you want to follow me? Was there something else you wanted me to do with you?" he asked then.

Seraph walked with Rainne as they observed the town and all of its workings. He was happy to say that everything was working perfectly. There was no glitch in sight and even the NPCs were going about their business without a hitch. He was proud. He hadn't created the world and these interactions, but he was a part of this and it just gave him a sense of purpose. Rainne's smiling face was all he could ask for. He was feeling much more at ease around her now to. He understood that she wouldn't just yell at him or anything if there was a mistake that needed to be fixed. She was really nice.

When they finally received their first mission, Seraph was grinning ear to ear. He was excited at the prospect of exploring the fields and monsters as well as actually engaging in the game. He rolled up onto his toes before falling back on his heels and he looked up at Rainne once he had accepted the collection bag.

"Follow me, Rainne! I know where the Redspotted Hornets are! We should stay on the outskirts and attract one at a time, otherwise we will be swarmed. I'd rather not get killed," he stated. He motioned for Rainne to follow him then and they soon reached the small valley with random trees spaced out across the area. A gentle breeze was blowing, bending the strands of grass to its whim and making the leaves rustle. Seraph pushed a few of his wayward blue strands behind his ear before shielding his eyes to look around. The Redspotted Hornets were buzzing around the trees at random intervals. Some were grouped together and then there were solo hornets around the perimeter. Seraph could see a party of players on one edge already drawing hornets for the same quest. It made Seraph smile.

"Here we are, Rainne! Okay, I have long ranged attacks and you fight up close. That means I'll have to draw the creatures to us so that we have a longer time to attack it before it gets close and it doesn't have a chance to call for backup," he explained. Seraph extended his hand and a thin silver staff with a blue tip appeared in his hand then. It was a base weapon for both mages and priests.

Seraph got into his ready stance, legs grounded before he targeted a hornet and called upon the earth spell, "Vines!" Instantly vines pushed through the earth beneath his target to ensnare it. The spell would hold for four seconds so he had to be quick about this. "Fireball!" he called then, his character twirling with the incantation as a fireball shot towards the hornet from the tip of his staff. He had to wait three seconds before casting the spell again. Seraph managed to call up the fire spell one more time before the hornet came too close for him to cast a spell uninterrupted. He started to shuffle back since the hornet only had eyes for its attacker and it was intent on stinging him. He managed to slide to the side just before the sharp appendage stuck into his arm."Rainne! Finish it off!" Seraph requested as he quite literally began to run around Rainne to keep the hornet at a distance. Getting stung really didn't sound appealing to Seraph.

Rainne trained large emerald eyes on him, taking and wallowing in his enthusiasm. Committing his stated facts to memory. It was quite handy having him with her. She may have been a core developer of the world of LAIOS but she would never be able to memorize every little detail like Seraph was able to. But then again, nobody expected her to anyway.

Following him, she could not contain the soft chuckle. How ironic. 'I'd rather not get killed.' he says. Rainne had not realized he had such humor. Interesting. Though, she could not help but contemplate the idea as they walked. Seraph only two, three steps ahead of her, she watched his slight frame. He could not die. Well, nothing ever really died inside of a game. LAIOS was no exception. Defeat and respawn is what happened. They did not even program that as option for Seraph. He was the game master after all. In almost every sense of the word, he was a god. Of his, this, world.

An inkling tickled at the back of her mind and she almost faltered in her belief that her was making his first attempt at a joke.

Arriving at the small valley, she drank in the sights. The flat untainted grassy plains and scattered trees. A crisp breeze passed through and Rainne wrinkled her nose as her long pale golden strands whipped at her cheeks. With an eye roll she silently berated herself and began to tightly braid her hair twisting it together into a bun. Her fault. She allowed her aesthetic to get in the way of practicality.

As her deft fingers moved through her hair she focused on his words, nodding her consent. Securing her new up-do with a testing shake of her head, she readied herself. Hand to hand combat was her chosen style of battle since it came naturally to her now. Those martial arts classes she took years previously worked wonders it seemed.

Her sharp eyes observed Seraph fight fastidiously. Bending her knees and bouncing on the balls of her feet she awaited her opportunity to strike. Seraph calling out to her was her cue.

Bounding forward with swift and light steps Rainne darted for the aggressive hornet. Planting her right foot into the grass firmly and twisted her flexible hips. Bringing her left foot high above her for a moment before slamming her heel into the vertebra of the hornet. Forcing it down to the ground where it dispersed into dust at the contact.

Among the fine grains Rainne bent down to examine the dropped rewards. Standing back up to face Seraph with a pleased smile as the game evenly distributed the winnings based on battle participation and the stinger materialized into the given collection bag. "How many more do you want to go for?"

Seraph grinned brightly and did an excited little turn. They had won the battle! They were a good team. "Well the quest requires two more of the stingers. I say we finish the quest before returning back to the town. We should level up soon as well," Seraph answered. "Come on!" he beckoned before he hurried deeper into the field to finish the quest. The two of them easily defeated their quarry and were on their way back to town. Their battle advanced them to level 2 quickly. Seraph led Rainne back to the NPC then and gave the character a wave. "We are back with the stingers you required, my lady," he called out to the elder woman. The NPC gave a bright smile as she accepted the bag.

"Oh, thank you so much! Both of you. You have been such a great help to me. Here is a little something for your trouble." Immediately the two of them glowed as they advanced to level 3 and earned some money. "Since you two have helped me so much, there is something else you could do for me. I need to acquire some Black Craven feathers. They should be east of here. Would you be able to help me?"

"Sure!" Seraph answered and acquired the new bag. "Onward we go, Rainne!". And the two continued this quest line until they finally finished it.

At this point, they had reached level 10 and had quite a bit of coin and level appropriate armor. Seraph looked at his new staff, a golden looking thing with a feather arch at the top protecting a crimson orb. Seraph rather liked the design of his new weapon. And it allowed him to charge his magic faster to. He turned his attention to Rainne then. Now that they had finished the string of quests, what did she want to do?
