Description

Please Welcome To The Stage: Ember
Image
I was born as Jane A. Blaze but, you can call me Jane.
I was born on August 1st and in the year 2012 I’ll be 15.
I really love causing problems, gasoline, and sugar.
I can’t stand darkness, being ignored, and her family.
I’ll never tell anyone but what really sends me into a panic is water.
Don’t get me wrong I like you and everything but I’m straight, I hope you’re okay with that.
Some say that when they look into my eyes they see
fury but, all I see is black, or red when angered.
My long hair makes rainbows cry with its redness.
I got into the cirque because
I can control fire and manipulate it beyond natural occurrence. After spending the first ten years of my life in an abusive home, I started to become angry and during these rages it seemed like any flammable object around me would burst into flames. I was taken into state custody a few months after this started, once my parents were arrested for drug trafficking. Rather than being put into a foster home, I ran away and stumbled upon the circus crew. So, now I’m the pyrokinetic and they won't let me leave!
What do I think about the Ringmaster? Ha! I think she’s
scary and intimidating. She's the one person that I won't cross.

So begins...

Jane seemed to be possessed by her reflection as she gazed into the small mirror that she held for nearly an hour. It always took her long to prepare her appearance for shows. It wasn't that Jane had to transform like some of the others, or even put on an extravagant costume. No, she just liked looking pretty and tended to be a perfectionist when it came to her looks, especially since she was trapped in the animal tent filed with all of them. She would become easily frustrated if her crimson colored hair refused to stay in a certain position and sometimes, frustration brought flames. While Jane had been able to channel fire through her body for almost five years now, she was still working on gaining full control of her ability and the last thing that she needed was to set her own hair on fire. She often considered trying it out on some of the others though. Victoria and her green hair, or her stunning feathers would be a nice target, or maybe Wynmere with her long blonde hair. It would surely be funny but Jane knew better than to test it out. She couldn't imagine what would happen if she was the reason that an act was ruined. Shae was one of the only people around that frightened her, but even more so was The Ticketmaster. Jane had had very few personal encounters with him besides the night that she had stumbled upon the cirque crew. It was a few weeks after she had run away from home and after spending all day travelling, all that the young girl wanted to do was rest. She ended up roaming onto the circus' grounds and resting behind some brush, far enough away from the tent not to be noticed, but close enough to the crowds that she doubted anyone would try to hurt her. She had spent a few hours there asleep but was woken by the loud sounds of people and as she slipped out of her sleep she realized that the circus had ended and the night air was colder than it had been earlier. As she lit up a fire using just her hands, a strange man appeared and after being presented with a contract, he had bonded her to the cirque. He was a weird man and while Jane had never personally experienced his wrath, she had seen the products of it and in no way wanted to be the next victim.

“Hurry! The show begins in just five minutes!” she heard the distant, familiar voice of The Ticketmaster call out. She could picture the huge crowd of people who were probably waiting on line and piling into the tent; girls and boys, men and women, people of every type would be there to see what the cirque was about. They might have seen the clowns in town or had just heard the stories about the cirque, but either way she was sure that most of them would be excited for the show.

She finished brushing out her hair and finally decided that it was as good as it was going to get. After straitening out the petite orange dress that she wore, she slipped out of the animal tent carrying what appeared to be a water bottle, but instead, it was filled with oil. It was harder to pull fire out of nowhere when there was a lot of moisture in the air, so oil always helped. Besides, it was her favorite beverage so she usually carried it anyway. She spotted Arella, dressed in her white costume, hurrying towards the main tent, violin in hand. Jane was in no rush to get to the show. She wasn't one of the opening acts so there was no need to be hurrying since she wouldn't go on. She took a slug of the liquid in the bottle, hoping that it would energize her enough to last for the next few hours and sat down a few feet away from the tent, relaxing until it would be close to her turn up.

Jane picked herself up and slowly headed towards the others. The show would be starting soon and she was to go on after Dezi and Quiller, who went on after the main acts. She approached the group, seeing that Dezi and Quiller were a few others, like Arella and Ian. She couldn't help but to roll her eyes at the sight of Arella. Jane had disliked the girl from the moment that she had joined the circus a month or two ago. She had never done anything personally to her to cause the hatred, but it wasn't unusual for Jane to have problems with people. She tended to be a little bit on the... bratty side. Maybe it was her high-maintenance attitude or constant complaints, but whatever it was seemed to annoy people.

"Like how what is with me and you?" she asked, after hearing Ave say, "Like how it is with me 'n' Jane?". She glared at the girl, her eyes then flashing up at Ian and his sister Dezi, and then over to Quill. She didn't mind Quill, which was strange because she did have problems with most people. He wasn't too annoying and he always seemed to know where to find candy which Jane loved nearly as much as him. He was only a year younger than her as well so there was some type of commonality there as well. Ian freaked her out- he was scary when he wanted to be his purple eyes were kind of mesmerizing. His sister, Dezi, was one of the few people that Jane listened to, even though she didn't hesitate to give her problems too when she felt like it.

Quill looked happy and while it was quite possible that he was just excited for the show, Jane knew that he had probably used sugar to hype himself up. "Quill, gimme some of your candy. Where'd you get it?" she questioned, grabbing her flask of chlorine trifluoride and sipping the light yellow liquid. She capped it and shook it slightly, looking at Ave with amused eyes. "You know what this is, Ave? Imagine if I used this stuff to set you on fire, it can burn straight through sand and metal and concrete- I wonder how long it would take to turn you into nothingness," she said, slipping it back into her pocket as she gazed around with boredom. "Did the show start yet?" she said, mainly as a complaint to herself.

Dezi nodded, glad that the human girl would be observing everyone's overly prepared acts. They really did work hard to make the show in tip top shape and everything was always perfect. To a t. She couldn't stop the grin from forming on her face, her white teeth revealed when she pulled back her lips in the expression.
"Awh, thanks honey." She let a hand stroke through Arella's hair and then let her hand fall. She really had an issue with touching other people's hair. She hardly ever touched her own, but when it came to others, well, she honestly felt motherly to nearly everyone in the Cirque. Besides the obvious who were much older or those who did not much appreciate her seeming to be responsible for them as well. She sighed at the mention of Jane and the obvious stare towards her sibling.
"I'm pretty sure that it is much different with the two of us. I am forced to love him no matter what he puts me through and I am sure that he feels like it is his duty in life to protect me. He trys to act like an overprotective father, yet fails miserably when I have to step up and take on the actual role of the parent.
No, you and Jane are just more like...opposites, rather than..." She paused for a moment to raise her hand to her mouth as her finger skimmed over her lips as she thought. "well, whatever we are." She gave a light scoff before turning around to see Jane, who added in an expected snarky remark. There weren't a lot of people that she did not like in the Cirque. Actually, she did not dislike any of them usually. But there had always been something about the way Jane presented herself and the way that she always talked down to Arella that would occasionaly put Dezi off.
She cleared her throat, peering down at the younger girl and let out a long sigh, looking back up towards Ian who had decided to head towards them as well. It was not hard to read him now.
I can't wait to watch Casper perform. He always does really well. The angel could swear that if he had been in wolf form, his tail would be wagging.
Ian had caught the end of the conversation coming from Jane and smirked, eyeing the small girl. He felt far away, being this tall.
His eyes squinted when the girl demanded candy from the boy who was basically like the brother he had never earned and he could not help but to scowl down towards her.
"Maybe you shouldn't boss other people around." He basically growled, in effect, Dezi rammed her elbow into his ribcage which he did not even flinch from. Pain hardly affected him, even critical wounds hardly were a bother. More of an annoyance. Ian winked at Arella. She needed someone to stick up for her.
"Yeah, the show started." Dezerra replied in a sing-song voice that really sounded angelic. She smiled, trying to weave the problems away because they always seemed to follow Ian.

She blinked in surprise at Alcide's remark about her stealing the heart of the crowd, was that the way he saw her?

"I'm sure you're just making fun of me Alcide," she said, trying to keep her voice from sounding hopeful, "I don't think I could steal anybody's heart let alone the entire crowd."

What was it about him that made her want to giggle like a school girl? She had noticed his blush and could feel the colour rising to her own cheeks. Out of all the clowns, she connected with him the most, no, he connected with her. He was the only one who seemed to understand the way her mind worked, how else would he have made the perfect song for her dance? Perhaps the truth was that she was denying the simple facts that lay right infront of her.

Quiller

Quil looked at Jane with wide eyes, she was nice when she wanted to be but sometimes she seemed a little scary, especially when she asked him for candy. Nervously he handed her a pack of red liquorice, hoping that it was a type of candy she liked. The way Jane talked to people sometimes wasn't very nice in his opinion, he wondered if perhaps she liked causing problems.

"One of the clowns gave it to me," he explained timidly, "People are always giving me stuff, I'm not sure why."

This was true, most of the candy he had stashed away had come fom the clowns or various other people and Quil could never work out why. His eyes widened even more as Jane began to talk about setting Arella on fire and he couldn't supress a squeak of terror at the thought. He really hoped that Jane was joking but even as a joke, it wasn't a nice thing to say.

Toan

He looked down to see Nilera performing at breakneck speed, even for trained acrobats, that sort of thing was dangerous.

"Well if she can do that then I can definitely do this" he whispered to himself before leaping into space.

He was on the wire, a vast amount of nothing beneath him, the only thing holding him on the wire was his will. With a deep breath he began to perform, cartwheeling along the rope only to swing underneath it on the last rotation and use the momentum to throw him self into the air. He was not alone, fear was right there with him, performing alongside him but he wouldn't give in, he'd keep strong untill the end of the routine. The show must go on. Finally, after a tripple somersault which he landed in a handstand, it was over. With relief he climbed down from the platform, unless he was mistaken, that marked the end of the acrobats perfomance, he definitely felt ready to take a bow so he could go backstage and collapse.

Jane glanced up at Ian who had approached. He was scary, that was for sure, but what could someone like him do that couldn't be stopped by fire? Claw her eyes out while she slept, maybe, and that was enough to frighten her. Besides, it didn't seem like any physical pain even bothered him. "I'm not bossing anyone around, actually," she retorted, rolling her eyes but taking a careful step backwards. "Me and Quill are friends, right?" she said, her eyes flashing towards the boy with a glare that hinted at intimidation, although she tried to suppress it. He wasn't someone that Jane disliked but she often found it hard to keep her emotions towards one person from spilling over into her interactions with others.

She smiled, actually sincerely, as Quiller handed her a pack of licorice, and the red kind too. "Thanks Quill," she replied happily as she tore the packaging away and took a small bite out of the candy. "At least someone here is nice." She contently munched on the candy while Arella spoke to her, and again all that she could do was roll her eyes. "Sorry to break it to you, but I've been here for four years and you've been here for what... a month? I've learned more from these people than you have." She couldn't believe that this girl would call her out like that. Arella was around the age that Jane was when she was signed to the circus, so she somewhat understood the girl's position, but she needed to learn her place. "But whatever," she started again after a moment, "I won't argue with a kid." She knew that she was only a few years older than Arella and really only a few inches taller, but she figured that judging by maturity, she was like a thousand times older.

Jane smiled inwardly with herself. Fire was a nice thing to be able to control. She would hate to be stuck with some stupid ability like the one that Arella possessed. She quickly finished the rest of the candy, washing it down with a little bit more of her chlorine trifluoride as she glanced back up at the others.

"I heard from one of the clowns that Victoria got like, her wings chopped up or something by The Ticketmaster. Is it true? Do you think he would ever do that to you, Dezi?"

With relief he bowed and rushed off stage, hurrying to a a seat before he collapsed. He smiled at Nilera as he passed her.

"Hey, you did a great job," he said, his voice shaking.

He blushed furiously, clearly he was still a bit scared from the highwire which was why his voice was shaking so badly, now that he had a moment to himself he could feel that his voice wasn't the only thing that was shaking. The last thing he needed was for anyone to find out how scared he got when performing on the highwire. Quickly he sat down and pulled out his MP3 player, trying to soothe himself with music. He knew that if he didn't stretch soon to warm down after the performance then he'd pay for it the next day but that would have to wait. He needed to calm his nerves first.

Quiller

Friends? This was the first that Quill had heard of it, Jane certainly didn't feel like a friend but the look she gave him suggested it wouldn't be in his best interests to disagree so he said nothing. He didn't really have anything against her but some of the stuff she said made him uncomfortable, perhaps in time though they'd become friends.

"Um...I'm going to go talk to Lucian," he said nervously, "I don't want him to fall asleep during the show."

Waving goodbye to everyone he headed towards the cages. He'd certainly spent a lot of time with the lion today, he'd have to spend time with some of the other animals tomorrow so they didn't feel left out.

"Hey Lucian!" he sang out, "You ready for the show?"

Dezi was certainly glad that Arella did not bow down to Jane and her taunting. Her adorable laughter filled her ears and she glanced over towards Ian whom did not look happy.
If only I could just get her alone for a few... He trailed off when their eyes locked and the angel squinted her own. A warning glare that the two shared when they were upset. His violet eyes fell and he had stopped thinking about Jane...for the moment.
Ian smirked when Arella grinned at him, he too, was also content at the fact that Jane stood no chance to the violinist.
Another low, nearly unaudible growl escaped Ian's throat when Jane childishly rolled her eyes and claimed that she wasn't bossing anyone around.
"Actually," He spoke up, unsure how he was actually maintaining a normal composure. This girl was pissing him off and it was not often that he just let people get under his skin. "Saying "gimme" without even asking is directing an order." He wasn't sure how Dezi looked because he would no longer look her in the eye. Sometimes she got so annoying.
"Really, Ian?" She spoke up, cutting off his train of thought. She merely shook her head and began walking away from the group, obviously annoyed by his own thoughts. He felt slightly bad about it, but he was just thinking in his mind. It wasn't his fault the truth was told to her.
Ian stared daggers into Jane as she ate the candy. He blamed her for Dezerra leaving. If she had not pissed him off then Dezi would not have gotten onto him and he would not have thought what he had.
He sighed and began to turn away as well to run towards Dez to apologize to her, but Jane said something else that had caught him completely off guard. His muscles began to shake involuntarily and he swallowed the saliva that had gathered up into his mouth. He scrunched his eyes shut and took a deep breath in through his nose to try and calm his overreacting nerves, but the line just kept replaying in his head over and over again.
"Do you think he would ever do that to you, Dezi?"
His sister had not wandered off far, she had been following after Quiller to take care of Victor the elephant, but she could hear Ian's blood boiling from the distance between them and whipped around. In his head she heard the same line he continued to think. It hurt her, that Jane would even think such a thing. She always followed the rules, actually enforced them more than almost everyone there. She felt like a mini Shae sometimes, but she did not like when people acted up, or even stepped out of line. She was just nicer about it than Shaelynn.
Dezi came to Ian who had turned away from Jane, his shaking becoming visible now. She wrapped an arm around his shoulders and began speaking in his ear, but it was loud enough for everyone to hear her because she needed to get through to him before he started to change.
"C'mon baby, she didn't mean anything by it. It's okay....I'm right here." Her hand rubbed his back, trying to calm him, but Ian pushed her off forcefully, whipping around and grabbing Jane by the collar of her shirt.
"Let me tell you something, hot head! If anyone deserves to be rid of anything, it's you and your fucking attitude! Why don't you do us all a favor and get the hell out of our line of vision before you lose an arm or something!"
Dezi had picked herself up by then and with a snap of her fingers, Ian was thrown to the ground and in a complete daze of what had just happened.
"Ian, you know I hate using my powers. I know you are invulnerable but that gives you absolutely no right to be in other people's faces. Look at me when I am talking to you!" The werewolf angirly picked his eyes up off of the floor to look at Dezi under his lowered brows.
"I am NOT scared to take you out of this show. Do you think it would be hard to convince Shae to even put you in your cage? No, it wouldn't. So how about you run along and find something else to do before we go on. You are getting to comfortable with your anger problems and I will not let the next time slide. Do you hear me?" She picked up his chin and forced him to look at her again. "Do you hear me?!"
"Fucking yes! Alright? Jeez!" Ian threw his hands up after getting up off the ground and stalked off towards wherever.
"This better not ruin you for the show!" She called to him then sighed, holding her temples which were now pounding. Yelling was her least favorite thing to do, at least one of them, and she seemed to have to do it too often with him.
"And you? Well, I would just hold my tongue in front of him unless you have a death wish or something. And no, I do not think he would ever clip my wings because I do not act up like some of the other animals around here." She added half-heartedly. She could not explain why it bothered her so much that she had asked such a quesiton. Maybe it was because she felt like a mother to most of the Cirque.

*Snap*

Kurtis' right hand made that infamous snapping sound, which he had perfected over the years because of his job. He stood in the middle of the stage, appearing out of seemingly nowhere, his black and white pinstriped suit and matching top hat seemingly glittering in the light.

When he had left the Ticketmaster's presence, he circled around back of the cirque, and listened to the squabble and arguments between that hot-headed Jane and the little Ave. And even Ian and Dezi! It seemed like a party almost, so many people pissed off. Jane was normally an alright person, her causing problems attitude always a plus, but she really pissed a lot of people off often. In the background, he could still hear the acrobats on stage, in their final acts, so he decided to make this little intervention of his quick. He made his way over to where Jane, Dezi and Ave were standing -passing a very pissed off Ian - in an awkward and angry silence, to which he broke quite easily.

"Look ladies. I don't care how much you all think you are better than the other, or how much you are pissed off at somebody, you are causing a pretty big scene. Wouldn't be surprised if they could hear you in the audience." He gave a small smirk of his well known mischievousness, and turned to Jane. "You may have a knack for flames Missy, but that totally doesn't mean you are mature in any sense." He turned to Dezi, gave a small smirk, and said. "You should let it all out more often, its quite interesting." He turned around, began to walk towards the stage with no intention of making it there since he already drew a circle earlier in the day which would allow him to get himself there with a flashy entrance. "Now, if you have any more problems with each other, take it up with the Ticketmaster will ya? At least then I will have permission to make somebody disappear for a while." And with that, the circle kicked in and he appeared on the stage. Now, the audience had been sitting there for a few moments, getting a little restless and not really paying attention on stage. When he appeared and snapped his fingers, the attention was now his, and he looked up towards the audience.

"Evening, ladies and gentlemen, my name is Kurtis Scarlet, more commonly known as the Scarlet Castor, and I will be bending the laws of physics and science for you tonight." He smiled as he got a few chuckles from the audience, and then pressed on. "Magic, as many of you know, is what people use to describe events that science cannot explain, which makes it all the more fun. Now, I would like to warn you, I'm no petty magician that you see in sideshow houses, or you hire for a hundred bucks a show, so I would appreciate it if you didn't try this at home and stain my name." Even more people laughed, and he said his final words before starting his final speech. "I shall now.." He pulled two swords out of his back it seemed, one in each hand, and twirled them around. ":Begin."

He twirled the swords around once more, and then stuck them in the ground. "Many magicians use that old trick of pulling things our of their hat. So what would happen if I..." He threw his hat into the air and, with extreme precision, threw a sword through the hat. It obviously was an illusion, there were so many circles on everything he owned it was confusing. Besides, he liked that hat too much. When he faced the audience once again, an apple and an orange rested on his head. "pulled things out of my head?" He grabbed both the apple and the orange off his head and motioned for the audience to see that his hat was no longer stuck into the beam as it once was. The sword sat up there lonely, as if screaming for its partner. Kurtis didn't let up though, he had too much to cover to wait.

"I do enjoy an apple now and again though, so this trick does come in handy." He bit the apple, started to chew and then stopped, as if he had a bad taste in his mouth. Slowly he pulled out an orange peel, and the apple and orange were in different places, the orange having a bite out of it. He brought his lips to the apple once again, mocking frustration, and the same thing happened once again. Feigning anger, he grabbed the remaining sword and swung it at the apple, only to have the orange cut in half. "On second thought, I think I shall keep to grapes. Easier to eat." And he stretched his hand open, revealing grapes between each finger. As the applause continued, Kurtis could feel the giddiness starting to rise again, and he mentally pushed it down. If this kept up, he may make a few more than just one innocent girl disappear.

The show continued on much like this. He asked a person to come up, and he sawed them into 4 pieces. And when he said 4 pieces, he meant it, no real smoke and mirrors there, just true illusions. He even showed the cut quarters to the audience, which got the same reaction as always: Mixed disgust, horror, shock and awe. He shrank himself into a small, doll-like looking version of himself, and even spoke into a microphone a clown brought on to make them laugh at his high pitched voice, even getting a very rich man to come up and try it out. Needless to say, Kurtis shrank him a little too much, so when the man came out he was shorter in almost every way. Kurtis said it wouldn't last long, and the crowd believed the lie easily. Kurtis even brought out a venomous spider, accidentally letting it 'bite' him - illusions my friend! - and supposedly came back from the dead, and to prove that it was venomous, a brave soul got up and was bitten by it. Luckily for her, he had the antidote. Normally he wouldn't carry it, but this spider occasionally got through his illusions and had actually bitten him once before. The act right before the one the Ticketmaster wanted, he brought out the Silhouette Luna, and performed some crazy shadow tricks, and even grew two heads. To show he was being legit, he even had mirrors on either side angled in on him to let them see that he didn't have two heads, but the light showed he did. To show it wasn't pre recorded, he assembled it right on stage. That was a shocker.

He was starting to wrap it up, with his near conclusion speech. "As you have witnessed tonight, 'science' cannot explain everything the mortal eye, nose, ear and tongue will feel. That is what I practice. Now, for my final act for the night, I shall end on a traditional note, but I need a volunteer. No, you will not be cut in half." He could see the one man paling and Kurtis chuckled. He narrowed in on the girl that the Ticketmaster wanted: Kayleen. He pointed directly at her, tilting his top hat.

"Miss, if you please, step up and help me deliver the show stopper that you," he gave a knowing smirk. "and the rest of the crowd will never forget."

Jane saw nothing wrong with her questions so when Ian turned around, nearly pulling her entirely off of the ground by the collar of her shirt, she was a little bit shaken up. At this point it wasn't really by fear as it was by surprise, only because she knew that he wouldn't dare to hurt her before the show. Part of her almost wished that he would- nothing that he could do to her would be worse than what the Ticketmaster would do to him for messing up an act in the show. However, no matter how hard she pulled against him, his grip didn't even slightly loosen. Maybe he was a little bit stronger than she thought when he was in his human form. She said nothing as he yelled angrily at her about her attitude. He was angry and she didn't want to make it worse, but she also couldn't come up with any good comebacks. Clearly he was the only one with an attitude, and in an instant he collapsed to the floor, showing that Dezi agreed with her that he was the one who needed to fix himself. Jane stumbled with his fall but was released from his grip and quickly got back onto her feet, moving away from them. He ran off after Dezi yelled at him and Jane couldn't help but to smirk with success.

Kurtis then appeared. He was someone that Jane liked enough to not cause problems with. He enjoyed pranking people and Jane found it amusing when other people were at the end of his jokes, as long as she wasn't one of them. Besides, she had no idea where all of those people he made disappear ended up, and she could be one of them. "I am mat-" she had begun to argue with him but then he mentioned taking up problems with the Ticketmaster and that was enough to silence her. He was the last person that she wanted to with. She waited for him to be out of sight before turning back to Dezi.

"It's not my fault that he gets mad at everything!" she said to Dezi, crossing her arms over her chest, "and besides, this is all Arella's fault. You don't care though, since you obviously love her so much". She scowled, ready to set Arella on fire and finish the problem off like that. Jane knew that it wasn't really Arella who was the problem- she probably could have befriended her when she had been signed into the circus, and maybe she was a little jealous at how much of the crew had taken a liking to her, but it's not like she was going to ever admit that. She didn't like it when anyone was liked by other people. It's not like she really wanted to be liked herself, or maybe she did and just wasn't ready to admit it, but the thought of other people having relationships bothered her. Maybe it was because she had never had a relationship before. Growing up as an only child to two abusive and drug addicted parents left her with little attention or experience in making friends, and growing up around violence and anger was all that she really knew. Even after being in the circus for four years, she had never felt the need to develop a strong relationship with anyone that wasn't based of of hatred. However, she was still convinced that it was everyone else's fault whenever a problem arose.

"God, it was just like, a question," she said, rolling her eyes again. "You're right though, animals will be animals. That's why Shea keeps them in cages, I guess. Did Ian get so angry and break the cage open or something, cause I think that he's supposed to be in there. He's dangerous, he almost ate me alive," she continued. "At least you're nice though. Thanks for taking my side," she finished with a smile, partially saying it in true belief but also as an jab at Ian, despite him not being there to hear it.

Dezi, slightly embarrased, covered her mouth for a moment when Kurtis said that they were probably being noticed by the audience members. She had not even realized that she had been so loud. As she brought her hand down she shyly apologized, wondering what had gotten into her. She sighed then caught eye contact with the magician and grinned largely when he said that speaking her mind was interesting. In turn she giggled lightly and blushed, holding her head slightly down causing her hair to fall from behind her ear and cover her face.
"Thank Kurt." She said to him before he left to go and perform his act. She felt really anxious, wanting to go and watch him play with people. He had always intrigued her by the way that he wowed the audience and always got one of the largest rounds of applause out of most of the other acts. She always loved to slip away and find an empty seat to see his practicing come together. He was a great entertainment.
She raised her eyes over her shoulder, seeing Quiller approach Ian.
The werewolf was flushed, but obviously not from being taken off gaurd, no. But by being thrown around like one of Casper's doll's and being talked down to like he was a child. He had done nothing wrong. He had been sticking up for Dezerra. He still could not figure out why he had been put in his place. He was protecting her from the snivelling brat who liked to play with fire. He was so wrapped up in his anger that he didn't even feel his hand slightly moving or being touched at all.
At the thought of her he glowered from where he sat on a hay bale and then saw Dezi looking straight at him. His gaze certainly fell to his feet as he rolled a foot over a few pieces of stray hay.
A meek voice echoed in his ears and he almost did not look up, but met the eyes of Dezi's assistant. Even sitting down, he was still taller than the young boy.
Ian let out a short and gruff sigh, but his eyebrows lowered in curiosity when Quill asked if he wanted to watch a movie. He was surprised at this, a small smile playing on his lips as the previous encounter slowly left his memory.
Ian chuckled, the smile forming, now when he asked if he would like to see Kill Bill. He ran a hand through his messy dark hair and nodded without much thought to the question.
He stood up and began walking next to Quiller, remembering to slow his pace because his legs were much longer.
"Well, I couldn't deny that I've always had a crush one Uma Thurman." He laughed alloud again then added, "And after that we could watch Fight Club. Have you seen that before?" He asked, his mind completely off of what had just happened, he was entirely distracted.
"And I won't be taking any of your candy. Well, maybe a cherry Blow Pop. Although I will take you up on that offer about the popcorn. I love me some butter." He chuckled again and checked over his shoulder, still seeing Dezi watch him. He winked at her, knowing she had heard that he wanted her favorite flavor of sucker. He wanted to save it for her later, although he doubted that he could make up for earlier on a lollipop.
Dezi shook her head and turned back around to look at the younger girls. She wondered why Jane was always so curt with others and wished slightly that she could read everyone's mind, but quickly decided against it. It was enough to hear his, much less having everyone's going through her own mind like a massive swarm of bees. The idea now sounded retched. It would get awfully loud and it seemed almost impossible to even hear herself think.
Dezi had an idea and decided it was in Arella's and Jane's best interest to seperate the two of them. She stepped over to Jane and put her arm around her like she would with anyone when she was being lovingly and said to her, "Let's take a walk, shall we?"
She was not sure where she was planning to head with this conversation, but after getting out of hearing range from the others, the words just started pouring.
"You'll have to understand, sweetie that Ian is very sensitive. Especially when it comes to me. He also doesn't know how to control his emotions, really. It comes with becoming what he is. Now, I didn't really mind the question, I know you were just curious..." She mentally kicked herself for lying. "But I don't see what started this whole feud between you and Arella. Besides," She stopped and stood in front of her, holding onto her shoulders and looking in her eyes and smiling like a mother would who really cared. "Yes, I love Arella, but I love you just the same. Nothing you could do would make me love you -or her- any more or any less. Remember that. Now. Is there something you want to talk about?"

Wynmere stood, off and away from the others, warming up for when she would have to perform. Leg stretched high above her head, she watched the others run all about the "backstage" area, getting ready for their acts or getting out of the way of others who were ready to go on. Her wings hung slightly open, relaxing themselves before they would have to almost completely tuck themselves away during her performance.

She lowered her leg from its extended position and bent over, gathering her things in her hands to get ready for when it would be her time to go on stage. She slipped her Romantic skirt on, and positioned it accordingly. Her leotard was covered in all kinds of feathers and sparkles, and the headpiece mixed in with her blonde hair also had various feathers on it. The whole idea of it was to hide her wings as best as possible. She had also painstakingly spent time braiding sparkling pieces into her feathers, so that when the time came to show her wings on stage, they could really wow the audience under the spotlights. That was exactly why she had chosen a Romantic skirt instead of a traditional Classic skirt. The whole illusion of the costume was that it was continuous and flowing. A Classic skirt was simply too sharp for that.

Picking up her Pointe shoes, she made her way past Jane and Dezi, giving the group of performers a wide berth. She had been here a bit longer than Jane, and had noticed how sharp-tongued the girl tended to be. But she, too, was also relatively new to the troupe, and still didn't feel like she was quite a part of "the gang" yet. She didn't even know if there was that group feeling, as there had been in her previous troupe. She had noticed how everyone seemed to fall into their respective places. She was still trying to figure out where she fit in.

As she stood in the wings, though, all previous thoughts vanished from her mind. She was only focused on what was happening on stage, and she probably seemed just as captivated as the audience members.

Her mind soon wandered once more, and she found herself a place to sit for a few moments as she tied her Pointe shoes appropriately. Stretching her ankles a bit, she stood and put some weight on her toes, feeling out her comfort level in her shoes. Satisfied with what she felt, she turned her thoughts to her own performance, and ran thought it a couple times in her head. The one thing she didn't want to do was disappoint, as she had been so graciously accepted into the Cirque from her old troupe. There was no reason to go back to a place like... well, like the place she had been working in. Working with this Cirque was simply too good to give up.

Turning once more to stare at the stage, she stood next to Arella, watching the magician perform, still just as mesmerized by his 'tricks' as she had been the first time she saw them.

Hiro, on the other hand, was watching from the audience. He'd paid for his ticket, enticed by the prospect that there were actually people like him out there.

Huddled into a hoodie, the young man sat in the sea of eyes eagerly watching the stage. So far, he'd been impressed by what he saw, but the people he was most looking forward to were still to come. If he was totally convinced that this place could be of a benefit to him, he'd approach someone in charge. A warm, pleasant rumble began in his chest, but he quickly quieted his mind, and instead focused on the spectacular show before him.

Dezi sighed and shook her head when Jane completely denied the fact that there was obvious tension going on between the two of them. And not just from Arella to her. She, however, did not feel like arguing over whether or not Jane was correct about her opinion. All she wanted was to go and lay down, but they would be on soon and now she was just dreading it. She was not sure whether or not Ian was still intact, but after a quick sweep of her mind, she found that he was talking to Quiller off to the side near the entrance to the tent.
"Yeah! I love her. She's great. Man, Tim Burton is so lucky. And I love that movie too." Ian began nodding happily with Quill, agreeing that she had a fantastic voice. Johnny Depp had certainly surprised him with that number.
"Yeah, we'll definitely hangout tonight." He beamed, glancing towards his sister and then to where the opening flap of the tent was that led out onto the stage.
"You and Dez are before me...I wonder how long until you guys are on. I come out at the end of the animals so...." He trailed off, not knowing who was even on stage at the moment and looked down at Quiller helplessly. He was wondering when he would be introduced and if it would be anytime soon.
Dezi dropped her arms in defeat when Jane curtly dismissed her invitation. If Ian had been the one asking, he would have been growling, but Dezi just kept silent until another question was left out in the open that made her slightly curious. Why would Jane care where they had grown up?
"The two of us were first born in Meaux. A city in France. After living there for a few years we moved, staying in several different countries...Britain, Germany, The UK, Ireland, and Russia. My parents were not...good people. Anyway, when I was seventeen we finally moved to the United States and settled down in Florida...I died and when I came back, I was determined to find Ian. He'd been on the run since my death, full wolf, and left his human conciousness in the dust. But I had a little trick up my sleeve and found him in the mountains of Colorado. Shortly afterwards we found the Cirque and gladly joined. We were too tired of all of the drama." She had no idea why she had just given the girl a short summary of her life story, but she didn't regret it either. Maybe she felt as though in order for Jane to open up, she needed to see someone else willing to put their secrets out in the open.

Jane quietly listened as Dezi explained her past. To Jane, it sounded like the girl had had a nice life. Even though she had thrown in the part about her parents no being "good people", she had still been too lots of countries that sounded nice like France and Ireland and Britain and the rest, and then she got to die and be transformed into an Angel and still get to be around her brother. She was even luckier to get to join the Cirque and meet Jane, but she didn't bother to vocalize that point, knowing that it was obvious.

"If you're a real angel, you can't do any bad things, right?" Jane asked, running her fingers through her ponytail as she glanced up at Dezi, "like if I lit you on fire, you wouldn't be able to hurt me back or else you wouldn't be an angel because angels only do nice things. Did you go to Disney World a lot when you lived in Florida? How did you die? If Ian was really protective of you, he wouldn't have let you die, I don't think..." she continued, her voice trailing off as she turned her attention back towards the rest of the circus grounds. She was anxious to preform and wasn't sure how long she had until she was up. Kurtis had went on a little while ago, but she was guessing he had finished and it would be Casper's turn, or maybe his was be over as well. "Don't you go on soon?" Jane asked a moment later. "Don't worry, my act will save the show if you and Quiller bore everyone to death," she added with a smile, ignorant to the insult woven into her comment.

Dezerra was overwhelmed with the numerous questions running out of Jane's mouth. Most of them irked her and she wondered why she was all of a sudden so curious about her past and what had happened in her life. She tried to keep a reserved face on and was successful, but inside her blood was slowly starting to boil because of this girl. She was right about the fact that angel's did mostly good things, but some people may not consider killing someone to be good either. Of course, it had been for an extremely good reason, but that part of Dezi's life was kept secret between only her and Ian. God was forgiving, and she knew he would forgive her for anything that stood in her way because He wouldn't love her any more or any less when she committed any sin or any good deed.
She closed her eyes for a moment, listening to Jane babble on but also listening into the background, hearing Casper's act. She was up next and now was really not the time for questions. She was actually glad that it was a way to skim around the probing and what not and bowed her head slightly.
"I'm sorry. We can talk later. I need to prepare." She apologized again before skipping into a run. She didn't have far to go because Quiller and Ian were not all of the way over at the other side of the tent. She was not even breathless when she arrived.
"Hey, Quiller, we're about to go on. -she thumbed in the direction of the stage- We need to get the elephant, tiger, lion, and crocodile out of their cages and in chains...Right now."
She stretched her shoulders, allowing her wings to slowly begin to rip a slit of her skin so they could emerge from her body. It was useful that they were retractable. Numerous times she had gone into public and she did not need all of the stares.
"You're after us, so I hope you're ready." She didn't even look at Ian but she started off towards the other tent to begin preparing the animals. She first went to Slade's cage. She opened the large barred door and coaxed the crocodile up.
"Hey, you." She said in a bright voice. She could hear, not far from her, that Casper was ending and she needed to hurry up. Quiller would speed along the process.
Ian shrugged when Dezi spoke to him and didn't even care to mutter a response.
"Guess that means you gotta go, kid." He said, flipping his hair and smoothing it down. Casper's act had just finished and through a peak in the tent he had been watching and of course he could hear, he could hear two miles past the Cirque.
He strayed over towards Casper casually, smiling at him.
"Hey, I heard you back here. Couldn't help but to chuckle a bit myself. Good job, man." He bit his lip and slowly went in for a hug, wrapping his arms around the smaller man. "You did real good." He said as they embraced. "And so did your dolls." He added once they had finally pulled away. It seemed like a couple of beats too long for a hug from a friend and he wondered if Casper noticed it but doubted the idea.

After Dezi had left to search for Quiller and prepare for their act, Jane turned in the opposite direction, slipping from the backstage tent and jogging towards her own tent. Talking to the angel had tired her out and the last thing that she needed was to get on stage and be unable to produce the fire that the crowd longed to see. It only took her a second to enter the deserted area before finding her canteen of acetone, and once she had grabbed in, she slipped back out. The circus grounds were fairly quiet, seeing as nearly everyone was backstage or on stage. Well, not everyone. Jane remembered that most of the freaks would still be caged and she smiled as she walked past the backstage tent, headed towards the cages.

The smell of burning flesh was very familiar to Jane so she automatically knew that Kat must be around. It wouldn't be surprising either, since the Ticketmaster had forced her into a cage as a punishment for something. It had made Jane happy, honestly, as having someone else with fire powers around wasn't something that she enjoyed. Even though her and Kat's powers differed, she didn't like the idea of someone else being able to control something just like her, and maybe more that she couldn't hurt Kat with her fire. She was right- Kat was there and she was easily spotted as her skin radiated with bright flames. She moved past Kat, shooting her a quick glare as she spotted Victoria and some weird looking cat or something in an equally weird outfit.

"Hi Victoria," she said with a smile, approaching the cage that the Harpy resided in. "You don't look so bad. Everyone made it seem like your wings got like, run over by a lawn mower or something." She slipped her hand between the bar gaps, reaching for the harpy's wings to touch them for herself but pulled back quickly once she caught a glimpse of the girl's sharp teeth that a wing quickly covered as she laughed about something with that weird cat. Remembering her, Jane turned to the unfamiliar face.

"Who are you?" she asked, tilting her head slightly as she examined the girl. "Oh! Victoria, do you want me to throw her in for you?" she asked, figuring that the animal was her intended next meal.

Koko looked at the girl who had appraoched in disguist. "I would like to see you try," she said bearing her fox fangs at her. Then she realized that this girl is either really couragous, or really dumb. She was guessing the latter. She pointed to her outfit and said, "You work in a cirus and you don't know what I am really?" She pulled the key out of her bowtie holding it up to show the girl. "Im a clown, and you have someplace else to be, and someone else to bother." She wanted the girl away from her for a different reason, she smelled like danger. But it wasn't her, the smell was too strong and wafting off of her. It stank, no human she had ever seen smelled this way, no it was a wild smell. Wolf... she thought.
She hopped down on all fours and bounced from a the chest she got her outfit from, to the pile of boxes, and then on top of Victoria's cage. Then she said, "Shouldn't you have someplace else to be?"

The harpy continued to laugh feeling more joy then she had in a while as she watched the fox do her trick. “Don't worry about her...” She stopped when she saw Jane walk by. At first she simply gave the girl a nod not really knowing her well enough to despise her. However, as the young human continued to speak Victoria couldn't help but glare down at her.

“Back off!” She snapped when she reached her hand into the cage. If Victoria had been a lesser animal she would have ripped that arm off. “Watch your tongue human! My wings are none of your business.” She hissed and eyed her darkly while she spoke to Koko. “That is the new clown. Leave her alone.” She spoke before looking up at the fox that sat on top of her cage. She was growing rather fond of Koko. She reminded her so much of the creatures she use to interact with back when she was free.

Katerina trailed her fingers along the Harpy's cage with a sinister smirk. "Now it's me out here and you in there," she said, "isn't interesting how things play out?" She spared a glance at the fox girl before she slipped out of the tent: parading around like a peacock in that ridiculous costume.

She almost blundered headlong into the pyrokinetic. Jess was it? Jane? Katerina had been introduced to everyone on her first day at the Cirque, but she had never troubled to remember names. The girl clearly had little love for Kat, judging by the cold stare she gave her. Kat wondered why she been cursed with the impeccable ability to make people dislike her.

Jane's foul demeanour intrigued Kat, so she lingered to watch the whole affair play out with Jane, the Harpy and the little fox. She decided she liked Jane after that. It was a nice reassurance to see someone else treat the little fox like dirt. She let them be and walked briskly over to the the fanciest looking trailer, avoiding eye contact with anyone and everyone. The evening air was cool against her skin, and she burned brighter than any light. The tent was empty, as she had hoped, and she quickly found what she was looking for: the liquor cabinet. It was unlocked. She helped herself to a bottle of whisky, before making her way over to the big top. It was hard to miss; the sounds of the show in full swing dominated the grounds.

She crawled under the side of the tent and found herself under the bleachers. It was an almost entirely different environment to the arena, although it was hardly more than 10 foot away. The light was dim, streaming in through gaps under the seats and the audience's legs. Kat crawled hand and food across trampled grass, careful not to hit her head and alert the oblivious people sitting above her. When she lay down on her stomach, there was a gap in the bleachers at eye level, where she had a perfect view of the show.

She popped the cap off the bottle of whisky and drank long and deep.

Koko wathced as Jane left the tent, irritation still swarmed her head like a pack of flies, "What is it that she does? Could she have done it with one hand? If so, i would bite it off next time." She said smirking down at Victoria.
She hoppped back down to the pile of boxes and curled up, wrapping her big fluffy tail around her so it lay under her head. She was eye level with Victoria now, "What are the others like?" she asked, knowing there must be so many new people she has to remember.
She was also hoping that she was wrong about the fire girl, "You wouldn't happen to be housing a Wolf would you?"
A shiver ran up her spine at the thought, in the animal kingdom...Werewolves devour Kitsune. She needed to know which one he was, especially if she had just made an enemy out of Jane.

Jane couldn't believe how rude the little animal cat thing, or whatever she was, acted. Who did she think she was to critize Jane's knowledge of the circus, and then to tell her that she have someplace else to be. She was the one who had obviously just joined the circus. She had no idea how this place worked, who did she think she was? "No, I don't have somewhere to be, for your information," she shot back at the girl who was now on top of Victoria's cage. In reality, she was supposed to be backstage with the rest of the performers rather than wandering around circus grounds, but it was boring back there and she still had to wait for Wynmere's act and Dezi and Quiller's to be over before she got to preform, so there was no harm in wasting some time having fun. The Ticketmaster and Ringmistress would be too busy with the show to care about her anyway, she figured.

Victoria then introduced her as a clown and Jane couldn't help but to roll her eyes. It made sense- she clearly had no good purpose in the circus so they stuck her in as a clown.

"Who would ever sign that contract to be a clown? I regret doing it and I'm a real act; you signed up to be a servant. I guess your brain is just as catlike as your ears are," she said, eyeing the girl as she giggled to herself at her own joke. "I'm not doing anything to her," she then stated after Victoria told her to "leave her alone". Why did it seem like everyone was attacking her today for no reason? Everyone else was being mean to her, not the other way around.

Jane had stepped away from the two, peering into the other cages containing freaks before slowly moving back towards the harpy and clown. She heard the clown say "wolf" and her attention spark, remembering the incident from earlier with Ian. "Yes there's a wolf here!" Jane jumped in before Victoria could respond. "He's so mean, don't even try to be friends with him."
